I couldn’t date a tsundere because she’d say something like “I don’t even like you! Hmph!” and then I would run directly in front of the nearest car

Friendly reminder that:
The concept of starseeds promotes ableism by minimizing or denying ADHD and autism.
The ancient astronaut hypothesis promotes spiritual colonialism and destruction of other cultures by twisting other people's mythologies and sacred texts to fit their narratives.
The reptilian alien mythology is based on conspiracy theories historically used to justify oppressing and murdering real people. Loosh/blood/adrenochrome harvesting is just repackaged blood libel.
New Age mythology is chock full of repackaged right wing conspiracy theories, the same kind pushed by QAnon.
It's also full of repackaged racist pseudoscience about genetic superiority/inferiority and the function of evolution.
Ascension to 5D was supposed to have happened back in 2012, and the prediction failed.
New Agers are recycling their predictions over and over to catch new waves of people who don't know the movement's history.
Belief in Atlantis is strongly motivated by white supremacy.
For more info, see:
Looks like it's time to talk about starseeds and the New Age movement again.
How the mythology of starseeds, indigo children, crystal children, rainbow children, etc. harms kids
New Age YouTube channel caught recycling claims of imminent "first contact" for three years
Is the spiritual person a conspiracy theorist? A list of red flags
What is spiritual eugenics?

Also, repeatedly it is Rodney who accuses Sheppard of being Kirk, i.e. in his view an action hero commander who gets the girls and saves the day.
It doesn't therefore matter that this is not how John is, in actuality, or how he sees himself, or how the situations actually are. It doesn't even matter that this is not how Kirk was in TOS! It matters only that Rodney is the kind of socially-isolated and inept Trek fan who thinks that's what's going on. Rodney thinks of Kirk more the way J. J. Abrams does, not the way the rest of canon does.
But then, from my perspective, and having listened to the SG-1 commentary tracks, I would guess that the writers on Atlantis—being mostly seasoned Stargate writers—weren't trying to create a simplistic womanizer as their main hero character. Such a character would always have been a Stargate minor villain. They made their mistakes in early SG-1, but even there, it was to introduce characters against sexism.
However, I think they were trying to create a better James T. Kirk. And I think they succeeded far better than the AOS Trek movies did. Frankly, I'd like to see an older John Sheppard in the mold of TOS movie Kirk.
Seriously, look at John Sheppard and Cameron Mitchell, together. Both of them, as parallel reinventions of the Stargate lead character, are fundamentally aw-shucks boy-scout non-maverick characters. Career military in a fictional sense, dependable guys who like their jobs and get along with people and work well in teams. And Cam gets the "stack of books with legs" trait with both hands, Sheppard less so, but in both cases it's interesting because that's the antithesis of Jack, who never met an explanation he didn't wave off, and needed Sam and Daniel for that. But that is the core of James T. Kirk! Put that man in a team dynamic with complements and supplements to his weaknesses, all with foibles of their own, and then put that team in situations!
John Sheppard does get the run-and-gun situations more often, out of the gate, the impulsive gut-level solutions ... but all of his are eusocial, from the very beginning, against characters on his own side that aren't. And it takes a certain kind of callow masculinity to look at that and say it's designed to be sexist and womanizing, and that's what we have Rodney to lampshade for us. The writers give him the "save the day and get the girl" plots equally to lampshade them, because it's never actually that. And the sheer number of lampshades hung by these writers as literate sci-fi fans is just fun! They know their tropes, and they subvert them freely.
Another thing about Stargate being an early 2000s show is the writers obviously wanted John to be a womanizer and by all means he should have been but whether they just did it badly or it was the way Joe Flanigan played him he so isn't and it makes him so awkward and endearing I love it

DC x DP: An Atlantean death cult summons Danny to usher in the end of the world. The biggest obstacle to this is that Danny doesn't speak Atlantean and as such has no idea what these weird fish people want.
(Unfortunately, I missed MerMay this year, or y'all would've been gotten soooo much mermaid!Phantom Family stuff istg)
Danny tried not to groan as he stared at the other cultists who wanted him to... do something. Probably evil, but how would he know?
He couldn't understand Atlantean, after all.
But it definitely looked evil, with the wounded dolphin in the middle of the circle with its blood dispersing into the water.
Danny gave a silent prayer, hoping that Cujo could perhaps guide it towards a better afterlife.
Danny sighed, rocking from side to side as he looked down at himself, where his legs had merged together into an orca tail.
At least he was badass as hell while he was summoned as a merman.
He watched blandly as the cultists continued to dance and chant, trying to do something with their ritual that he couldn't understand. He didn't want to rain on their parade, but while he couldn't understand them, it just looked several times more ridiculous.
One of them swam forward to present to him a closed cup full of an unknown thing and Danny just stared at it before turning away.
There were some cries of shock and despair.
Danny looked around for a way to escape, but he would feel bad if he left and these cultists wrecked havoc within the ocean, so he stayed there, watching the reeds move in the water.
Out of the blue, the underwater temple that Danny was in suddenly rocked. A whale crashed into the side of the place and shook the entire ground, causing screams to erupt from the cultists. Danny gave a sigh of relief as he saw a crowd of people swim inside and attack the cultists.
It was finished up rather quickly, as Danny bent down to smudge the rune markings keeping him in the circle.
He looked at the various crowd of people, some of whom he recognized were part of a hero group called the Justice League in this world. In front of them was a blonde man in orange and green, who was staring at him in horror and shock.
Danny gave a reassuring smile and waved goodbye.
"Thanks for taking care of them! See you never! Bye!"
And then he was gone.

Plato: Atlantis is a cautionary tale. An example of how not to run a state. They lost a war to the superior Athenians and then were punished with extinction by the gods.
People 2400 Years Later: Atlantis is a super-advanced civilization of fish people who rule the ocean.

You think it's some kind of a diamond. I thought it was some kind of a battery, but we're both wrong. It's their life-force. That crystal is the only thing keeping these people alive. You take that away, and they'll die. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) Dir. Gary Trousdale And Kirk Wise

Kassandra of Atlantis - Assassin's Creed: Odyssey fanart, watercolour and acrylic-gouache on hot press paper
Entirely because I LOVED the Atlantis aesthetic so much, and I love Kassandra ❤ It's been a while since I played the game, but I think that thematically she should have been holding the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus but…uhh, I didn't want to paint it, so I didn't! Have the Spear of Leonidas instead :) Like Bayek, this one was based on an old sketch - finishing it traditionally was a little challenge I gave myself. ('little' she says, you know, like a fool)
Art prints here!

Imagine, if in two thousand years, everyone was obsessed with Omelas.
Alright, not everyone obviously. But you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't at least know its name. You were absolutely told the story as a child, might even have watched a movie or played a game about plucky kids rescuing the child of Omelas from their cell and taking down the city's corrupt priesthood. You definitely have vague memories of browsing the holo-channels as a kid on a sick day and watching a documentary about how the city fell, analyzing the texts of the historian Le Guin, and attempting to track down its "true" location.
There are whole societies dedicated to that question. Not just people on the Feed Boards, but like, actual archeologists and historians (that's how they describe themselves, at least) who literally head out to various moons and dwarf planets, doing all sort of complicated scans and digging up rock formations and old habitat ruins that they claim, based on ancient texts, to be a prime candidate for where Omelas was located.
It goes deeper than that, you realise later, if you dig deeper. There are entire belief systems based on Omelas. Many claim that Omelians were not humans at all, but actually advanced aliens or even gods, who granted humanity the first technology for space flight. There are political parties, some quite popular-- and powerful-- who claim descent from the Omelians, and who argue that descent makes them rightfully superior to all other races. These people rarely, if ever, bring up how the moral question at the story's heart about the Omelian's corruption. Omelians were wise and just and powerful, obviously, and that's why they should be in charge now.
This is what happened to Plato's story of Atlantis.
#atlantis#mythology#sort of#i would argue atlantis isn't even a myth in the traditional sense but it really has become one#anyway i was watching a video on the Nazi's beliefs in this stuff and it just struck me again how Wild it is#also thinking about how Anne Leckie was So Right in her Imperial Radch verse#about how almost every culture has segements arguing how Their planet is the birthplace of humanity

Merpeople also know of the legend of Atlantis, though in their telling the city was raised out of the sea and turned into an island, permanently out of reach of merkind.
Hundreds of islands have been claimed to be the site of the lost city, including Cyprus, Crete, and Prince Edward Island off the coast of Canada. Some legends say the city was fully detached from the earth and became the moon.
