As the story is going forward, asriel has been getting more on the 'Overprotective' and controlling type person. He has learned even guilt trip. How did you figure out these personality traits From canon asriel?
I took all of Flowey's worst qualities and watered them down until I felt a kid could logically embody those qualities, too. Flowey is, after all, Asriel at his absolute worst. And what are some traits about Flowey we know? He's controlling (like his save scumming in his omega flowey fight to always get the upper hand), manipulative (guiding you towards the best ending for his own plans) and obsessed with Chara (to the point of not wanting to live in a world without them). Heck, even at the end of the TP route when you fight hyper death Asriel, his monologue STILL depicts him as controlling and obsessed with Chara, even after he has souls inside of him again. (like him wanting to reset the world so that "chara" can never leave him, and they can play together for ever)
Asriel always had the potential inside of him to become Flowey with all those cruel tendencies, though probably the reason those tendencies manifested to begin with in the game's story was from him lacking a soul which then diminished his empathy after he died and was resurrected.
In the flashbacks of this comic, Asriel still has his soul (for the time being). If someone were to ask him if it was okay to control his friends, he'd say "no, that's wrong", but he also knows it's wrong for his friend to try and hurt themselves, and will do whatever it takes to prevent that. He uses his concern for their well-being as a justification to micromanage everything they do. In his mind he's "protecting" them, he's "helping" them, he's "saving" them, and that is a "good thing" so it "doesn't count" as controlling them. He doesn't even know what guilt tripping is. Let's also not forget that Asriel's a kid with little life experience and honestly doesn't even realize what he's doing is harmful in other ways. If an adult explained to him why his tactics for protecting Chara could cause more harm than good, he'd be truly horrified.
Sadly, both Chara and Asriel have each hurt the other (be it intentionally or unknowingly) which makes them both reluctant seek out help from adults. For Asriel, if he told his parents what Chara was trying to do, he fears Chara won't trust him or be his friend anymore. For Chara, if they were to tell an adult that they don't like the way Asriel is treating them, it would mean having to explain why he's treating them like that, which would also mean having to explain their plans of self-sacrifice, which they know would make the adults upset, and could potentially lead to punishment. (of course the Dreemurrs would never hurt Chara, but Chara just Will Not take that risk due to bad experiences they had in the past from their time on the surface). And tragically, their attempts to help the other in their own flawed, naive ways leads to each of their undoing.
#ghost switch#saddest part is Asriel's still gotta get a lot worse before he gets better#he hasn't even hit his villain arc yet with Frisk#There's also one other thing that Flowey is that Arsiel represents as well#but it's meta and won't be addressed until... like... hotland.#One of the takeaways I hope people get from this comic is âthey were both right with their concerns about the problemâ#âBut they were both wrong with their methods of dealing with the problemâ#or more specifically âjust because I agree that they were wrong doesn't automatically mean I think that you were rightâ

Alciel - Day 88
Race: Vile
Alignment: Dark-Law
August 7th, 2024
Bonum est deus... ahem. I'd like to start off this DDS by saying that, holy shit, the SMT wiki has an excellent page about Alciel, with fully cited sources and conjecture that makes sense, as well as providing two sources to pursue. Thank god... and as for a proper introduction,
Gehenna is typically seen as just another version of hell, but it's not quite that simple- rather, it's a separate part of hell, much like the difference between Hades and Tartarus. While Sheol is where the dead go, Gehenna is the home of punishment- where those whose souls have done truly horrible things shall face eternal torment as penance. It's not far off from its rendition in the Binding of Isaac, ironically enough, as it's torture to even exist there. Where there is hell, though, there must be one to preside over it, whether it be one cast below into hell or one who was sent there by the angels to watch over and torment the sinners. According to the Midrash ha-neÊżelam, however, there is one being that presides over Gehenna to keep the sinners in and the righteous souls out, and that being is none other than today's Demon of the Day, Alciel.
Alciel, also spelled primarily as Arsiel according to @eirikrjs's writeup on the sources for the demon, is a demon that appears as the gatekeeper to Gehenna. While an admittedly minor character, only really attested to in some very obscure sources, Alciel can likely be confirmed as a genuine character in Jewish folklore. This is only further given credence by the meaning of Alciel, being "Dark Sun," at least in traditional Hebrew. Curiously, though, the original compendium entries about Alciel speak about his original name being "Aciel," which was 'Borrowed from a Babylonian god.' So, uh, what's up with that?
Yet again, for the source of this claim, we must refer back to the post by @eirikrjs, this time originating from the rather controversial book, The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets. The book in question is, again, seen as a rather controversial work, with dubious sources and a strange focus, but it does have this to say on the topic of Alciel. Again, I have to give all the credit to @eirikrjs and his team for even finding this, so thanks. To quote,
The kingdom of Gehenna was 60 times as large as the world. Each of the "palaces" had 6000 "houses," and each house had 6000 vessels of fire and gall awaiting the sinner. [The] Prince of Gehenna was Arsiel, copied from the Chaldean "Black Sun" Aciel, the negative deity corresponding to the god of light in the celestial realm.
This citation is given to one 'Cavendish, P.E., 146,' but I cannot for the life of me discover who this even is, or what it may originate from. Alas, I'm not fantastic at researching super deep into things, but if anyone can track down what this source was, please let me know. I'm starting to understand those amazon reviews that were roasting the shit out of this book for lacking concrete sources. Still, the given Black Sun of Alciel is a very confusing and interesting rabbit hole to dig into, and as the gatekeeper of Gehenna, I have to give him some props for a good job. A lot of stuff regarding Arsiel is murky to say the least, and I have to give a lot of props and credit to @eirikrjs for his work researching into this topic, especially given the relative obscurity of this demonic force.
For such an important figure in Gehenna, you'd expect him to get a few more mentions, eh? Well, whatever.
Maybe the guy's just camera shy. Could explain why he hides half his head underground all day.

I think my favorite thing about the trails series is how well it gives so much weight and reverence to the objects and ideas that are present in the story. Like in Sky FC they talk up the Arsielle so much, when really the only thing you need to set itâs existence up is itâs appearance in Ruan. But because itâs given so much narrative weight, when you are able to ride in it in SC it feels incredible, because itâs not just a fast airship, itâs the motherfucking Arsielle. Like, I know people think that these games slower pace is a downside but honestly the way that these games are paced allows for everything in the story to feel so much punchier, I think that it ends up being the biggest strength of the series.

anyway. you learned your world was a facade, yeah? i assume the college that your arsiel went to is likewise a facade. or does it not even exist, does asriel-the-character unload whenever he leaves and only load back in, with a full complement of memories, when it's time for him to return?
My dude just cause I know it's a facade doesn't mean I know how jack shit works lmao

Saturnus, Sol Niger and all that jazz
I donât know about the other games, but Persona 4âs entry about Saturnus is⊠quite something. This is how it is in the English version:
Looks like they didnât have much to say about Saturnus itself and so they threw in the usual Cronus trivia about eating his children. Nothing unusual considering what other entries have to offer. What struck me as odd, however, was the fact that the Japanese version is nothing like that:
ă€ăżăȘăąăźć€ăéȘæȘăȘç„ă é»ăć€Șéœăšăźç°ç§°ăæă€ă 性ć°ăźç©Łăăźä»Łăăă«çèŽăèŠæ±ăăăšăăă ćŸă«ăăŒăäșșă«ăăŁăŠăŻăăăčç„ăšćäžèŠăăăăăă«ăȘăŁăă
Rough translation:
An ancient god from Italy. Also called âBlack Sunâ. He is said to bring good crops for sacrifices. He was later identified by the Romans with the god Cronus.
So, the Japanese version:
Actually talks about Saturnus, not Cronus;
Doesnât identify him as a purely roman god, but as an italian one later worshipped by the Romans;
Most importantly, mentions his title as âBlack Sunâ (é»ăć€Șéœ). If you look at his artwork you can see why this is important.
When I first discovered this months ago I immediately thought of the alchemical Sol Niger, but I couldnât really menage to find anything about this connection in any trustworthy english source. That is, until now. I wanted to ask you if you knew anything about this since it suddenly came back to my mind, but first I decided to look a bit more into it by myself, so I just dropped âă”ăă„ă«ăăč é»ăć€Șéœâ on Google and looked at some sites. I already did that in the past but it couldnât hurt to do it again, yes? The second site that pops up doesnât look good, but now I know that Atlus would use anything as a source for their works so I didnât look away from it. Well, one of the first things that I noticed was that name. ăąă·ăŒăšă«Â (Aciel, not ăąă«ă·ăšă«, Arsiel, as it is in the games). The Sol Niger was getting hotter and hotter. I scroll down a little bit and look at the sources.
Barbara G. Walker : The Womanâs Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets (Harper & Row, 1983)
I swiftly check Saturnusâ entry and other related to that on the Encyclopedia and, lo and behold, everything that I needed was there.
This explains everything that ever needed to be explained about Saturnus, Aciel/Arsiel, Apollyon/Abaddon and the fabled Sol Niger (even if I have yet to understand how this ties, if it does at all, to the alchemical Sol Niger). I know you already checked Acielâs entry from when you found his âtrue nameâ, but Iâm pretty sure (and I surely hope so) that most of this stuff about Walkerâs Encyclopedia and the Sol Niger never came to light before today.
I donât really know where these infos about the Sol Niger came from or if they can be trusted, but this must be where the black sun in Saturnusâ stomach, Acielâs Sol Niger skill and the similarities between Aciel and Abaddon come from.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suns_in_alchemy#Sol_niger
As usual, I donât know where Walker got this stuff from, but I know that Walker is where Atlus got this stuff from.
____________________________________________________
Wow, amazing work and yet more to throw on top of the growing pile of Womanâs Encyclopedia entries! I donât have much to add other than I think your assessments are all correct. Walkerâs claims about the Sol Niger/Black Sun almost certainly seem like they are retroactively applied from alchemy (ex. Saturn = dull lead, the first step of the magnum opus is the putrefaction, black sun corresponds to Saturn and this initial stage).
Walker DOES use footnotes for each entry and these include some quite legitimate sources but I have not personally verified them. Going by Amazon reviews, it seems like she may have deliberately misinterpreted even these to fit her narrative. Oh well.
One thing I can add is the Black Sun and Chernobog:
More Saturn allusions. While the sun on his robe may be red (contrast and all) why else would it be on there, anyway?

The Angel
"Maybe, with what little power you have... You can SAVE something else"
Memories flood your soul. Memories that are not yours. But if they are not yours whose memories are those? It's you, despite everything, is still you. And the one in front of you is your brother. You carried those memories through the years you were siblings, through the miscommunication and the grief, through your own death and beyond your grave of flowers. You are determined to pay him back. You will save him, like once upon a time, he saved you.
You are the Angel from the old prophecy. You will empty the underground. You will save them all.
I was supposed to post this on the 6th UT Anniversary, but life had other plans. So a couple months late, but here it is, a little snippet from their original universe. I believe in Cannon Undertale both Frisk and Chara are responsible for the Pacifist ending.
It could be no different in AGT. When the White Wing of the Angel and the Golden Light that intertwines the Timelines combined, they were Determined to change this world.
#AgreementTale#AGT!Human#my art#This happened in their Tale world#So it does not spoils anything in AGF#This scene is my headcannon of how it happened#Chara enters with their memories and conection with Arsiel#Frisk enters with their living soul and power over the timelines#Both fuse through pure Determination to achieve the happy ending they knew monsters deserved#That is also the reason I will rarely call them Frisk or Chara#for me they are simply The Human
