2) my three favorite characters and why I love them so much.

1. DATA OBVIOUSLY. He is so precious to me and I relate to him and his struggles with understanding humanity. He is such a good character and has some of the best character development in Star Trek. He deserved better than Starfleet constantly questioning his bodily autonomy, I know he would've been happier out of Starfleet. I choose to believe the future we saw in All Good Things was Data's actual ending, and that the TNG movies are not canon. He's also adorable

2. Spock for a lot of the same reasons as Data. His character development is definitely on par with Data's, and TMP is SUCH an important movie for his character development which is why I hate that it gets shit on so often. His internal struggle between his human and Vulcan sides is so compelling and interesting, I could read meta about his character all day.

3. This is so hard there's so many good ones to choose from..... But I think I have to go with Kira, even though I have issues with how blindly she follows her religion... She is so well-written and that's so rare for a female character. I love her tragic backstory and that she has such a darkness to her. Her character development is also top notch, the fact that her character arc ends with her helping the Cardassians rebel against the Dominion is just so excellent.

20) how and when they should get/should have gotten together.

OKAY so most people think that they broke up/divorced after the 5 year mission but I wholeheartedly disagree. I personally don't think there's any way Spock would be able to be in a relationship with Kirk pre-TMP, his character just wasn't there yet. He had to meld with V'ger and realize that logic alone was not the path he needed to follow to find fulfillment. What I think happened is Kirk confessed his feelings for Spock at the end of the 5 year mission, which scared Spock so much that he ran away to Gol to go through Kolinahr (which he obviously failed because he was just too gay for Kirk.) Kirk was heartbroken but had to move on. Then the events of TMP happen; the hospital scene is when they both realize how much they need each other and that is when they officially get together. They don't even need to say anything, they literally just nod at each other and know. It's a love confession. Then they elope in Space Vegas with only their closest friends present. The end!

2) how I would have chosen to change their story from canon.

I kind of already touched on this but I DEFINITELY would have loved for him to leave Starfleet. He was never treated like a real person, his bodily autonomy was constantly called into question, he was treated like property even post-MOAM, and he deserved so much better. I think the future shown in AGT was almost perfect. Out of Starfleet, living with all his cats, thriving. The only thing missing is he wasn't married to Geordi, which is the one thing I would change.

Okay, but what if Q falls in love not with Picard directly but with the potential he holds as someone whom he wants to become his equal, playmate and lover?

Admiring his human but treating Picard like a sculpeur would treat a stone, thinking and knowing that underneath his cold and mortal/human surface is an art work needing to be freed from the useless exzess to become free.

Of course, Q has to be careful and it's going to take time, but once his Jean-Luc is free of his mortal coil and his 'useless exzess' (AGT script: 'worrying about Commander Riker's career, listening to Counsellor Troi's pedantic psychobabble, indulging Data in his witless exploration of humanity.') and after a few lessons, trials and games Q is going to turn Picard from a great human to a perfect Q.

And even finding new fandoms to join when we talk about are favorites we didn’t know about.

Howie Mandel, a meager and unassuming opinion

The other day I posted about “Deal or No Deal Island”, and during the course of that post I explained the basics of the original “Deal or No Deal��� show. I of course mentioned the host, Howie Mandel. Why would you shorten Howard to Howie? Howard really is an awful name, but Howie sounds juvenile.

According to the many (one) source, HM was born in 1955. That means he is 69 years old this year. (Stoo snickering). I have a hard time believing it, but he’s older than my parents.

He’s old enough to vividly remember the civil rights movement, a handful of wars (that we know about 👀) and like, a crap ton of other important stuff. He was 30 ish when the Berlin Wall fell. It may not seem like that big of a deal, I mean, there’s a lot of people that age, I mean, come on, the “boomers”. AKA my grandparents generation had little to no self control and/or birth control.

It’s just, Howie does not look like he’s about to ding 70. There’s a handful of celebrities that have really aged well, that’s another post. But Howie is - different. I think, and I could be wrong, that Howie Mandel is indeed an extraterrestrial being. This is why, I’m sure many of my readers noticed, I called him a creature. I can’t definitively say he’s an alien but he is a creature. Now, if you have seen the stage of the “Deal or No Deal” show, it’s lit up, and like, for sure a space ship deconstructed into the stage. Howie lives deep beneath the ship/stage, in quarters that “NBC” Has provided for him, in addition to many other forms of payment, because Howie requires intense medical care. Not used to the germs that humans carry, his weak alien immune system (well from our point of view, I mean, it could be that he also can’t handle our atmosphere yet he persists…just suffers for it by being almost paralyzed by common human germs. His people have cleverly covered this up by having him tell everyone that he suffers from OCD, and more specifically, he is a germophobe. Putting him in harms way every time he did a show by letting middle aged women hug him and good ol boys grab his hand for a handshake. Doctors here have struggled to adapt our medicine to treat him, but thanks to the profits of the game show, they are able to provide him every effort.

I won’t go into his career much other than to say that he apparently voiced Gizmo from “Gremlins”. That was a pretty cute little thing until it’s fur melted into a slick acidic mess of a monster. It didn’t terrify me as a child (i think i was 5 when it was in theaters, i wanted to go and my mom said no) but it did really piss me off to have the cute thing do that.

Pretty sure HM has done a lot of stand up comedy, interviews, and of course AGT. It’s all to keep his cover, any platform where he can comedically display his humanity, that’s where he is.

I don’t think anyone knows what his real motives are. Are there more like him? Will they come here in more game show ready space ships? I mentioned his youthful appearance, and of course this will eventually catch up with him, unless him or his people…have already planned our convenient end before then?

this valentine’s day i would like to profess my undying, ardent love for the callistephus chinensis (china aster)! the flower that contributed to me giving myself my name!!

not only are they a part of the (superior in my opinion) family of asteraceae, but also the genus’ (callistephus) etymology is derived from the greek words “kalli-” meaning “beautiful” and “stephos” meaning crown. they have beautiful chrysanthemum-esque blooms and come in all sorts of colours (my favourites being purple and white).

straying away from taxonomy a bit, asters in general are one of the birth flowers for september (my birth month!). they symbolise hope, faith and wisdom. and according to greek mythology, astraea (“star maiden”: goddess of purity, justice and innocence) cried because there weren't enough stars in the sky and when her tears hit the earth, they caused asters to bloom! continuing to follow the greek myth, she was the last goddess to live amongst the humans after the golden age, symbolising the decline of hope for humanity along with the decline of the ages. she left and became the constellation virgo i believe!

some more fun fun facts, asters have a most frequently observed number of n = 9 haploid chromosomes (2n = 18 for diploid). the numerology of the word “aster” also happens to be nine and guess what! september is the 9th month of the year! is it obvious i really like the number 9? almost as much as i love asters <3

And the Enterprise-E would be a wonderful place to learn - as you did on the D. So I don’t see why B4 has to leave at all.”

“The Enterprise has proven to be a suitable environment for such development,” he agreed with a tilt of his head. “It was where I had planned to teach Lal about life. Perhaps, I could do the same with B4.”

“Exactly, Data!”

“Is this why you and the Captain have also decided to procreate on the Enterprise?” he quired and Beverly’s cheeks immediately flushed a bright pink. “You also believe it to be a suitable environment to raise your offspring?”

“Data -” Beverly’s mouth fell open. “How? We haven’t told anyone yet…”
