How to Ask Tarot If Your Relationship is Hopeless

STEP 1: Shuffle your deck.

STEP 2: Draw three rows of cards.

First Row

Dealing from the top of the deck, get as many cards as the number of letters in your first name. (If it is Samantha, your first row will have 8 cards.)

Second Row

How to Stop Bullshitting People with Your Tarot Deck

Answer their question and do nothing else. That’s it.

A single tarot card can have dozens upon dozens of meanings. As a tarot reader, your job is not to regurgitate all those meanings to your querent.��

Instead, focus on their question, and give them a single relevant interpretation.

One-Card Reads

If the question is, “What will I love the most about my husband?” and you draw The Hanged Man, do not talk about The Hanged Man representing delays. The question is asking for a positive answer, and delay is not a positive concept. Therefore, that interpretation is automatically out.

The same thing goes for stagnation, pauses, sacrifices. Do not waste your client’s time reciting keywords associated with The Hanged Man. They did not pay for tarot lessons. They asked for a tarot reading. So read.

How is The Hanged Man relevant to being lovable? The Hanged Man is calm. There is no aggression in his stance. He is meditating. That means he is spiritual. There is a halo around his head. That means he has attained clarity.

So again, “What will I love most about my husband?” “You will love his easygoing nature. His level-headedness. His open-mindedness. His connection to a higher existence.”

Small Spreads

If the question is, “When will I meet my soulmate?” and you draw the Ace of Pentacles + The Four of Cups + The Empress, do not say, “Looks like you will have a new job soon.” The question is not about a job. That is not what the Ace of Pentacles is talking about.

Do not say, “This connection will be boring.” The question is not about a relationship’s nature. There is no way that is what the Four of Cups is speaking of.

And do not say, “Your soulmate will be very attractive.” The question is about timing, not physical appearances. The Empress in your spread is not talking about beauty.

Instead, learn the timing and astrological correspondences of tarot cards. The Ace of Pentacles could mean one season or one year. But the Four of Cups means four months – which is closer to one season than to one year, so one season it is. The Empress is the card of Venus, Ruler of Libra. Currently, it is May. Four months later, it will be September – the beginning of Fall and Libra season alike. 

Put it all together, and what is the answer? “You will meet your soulmate when the leaves start falling. Around four months from this reading.”

Large Spreads

When you are using a large spread like the Celtic Cross, each card represents a fixed position. The past, the present, the advice, the immediate future, the ultimate outcome, and so on. Do not mix them up.

If the question is, “Will my rich aunt leave me an inheritance?” and The Star lands in the advice position, do not say, “Definitely! You have a wish-come-true card. It will happen!”

The Star here is not a prediction, but merely guidance. It is not saying yes, but rather, “Stay positive.”

If the question is, “Do my parents regret having me?” and the entire spread is filled with negative cards, but the ultimate outcome is the Ten of Cups, do not say, “Sadly, yes, they think having you was a mistake.”

The Ten of Cups is the card of happy families. No matter the amount of sadness surrounding it, this card is clearly saying, “These parents cherish their kid.”

In tarot, as in life, a person who cannot give a straightforward answer is either a liar or a dumbass. To make sure you are neither, be brief and pretenseless.
