I WATCHED GOOD OMENS IN FRENCH SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO

and it wasn’t that bad. Here are my thoughts, barely edited as I wrote most of them while watching the show.

EP 1

OK i like god’s voice so far

possibilité d’embarras gastrique is a good formulation, I wonder if it’s the same in the book ( I think I kinda need to read it in french now...)

of course subtitles don’t match the audio for a variety of technical reasons but when you get things that have very different underlying meanings i find it… not good This one about Crowley being evil / a demon : subtitles : « c’est ton travail » - « it’s your job » audio : « c’est dans ta nature » - « it’s in your nature » i mean dang

crowley sounds like a little shit asking az about his sword

« T’AS FAIT QUOUA » - he just loses his shit (kinda giving me some le coeur a ses raisons vibe)

ok crowley sounds very nerdy when he tries to explain that he took down the phone network, i think i actually like this voice acting

ligur sounds… very suave (im a little ill at ease)

i see the part where aziraphale speaks japanese wasn’t dubbed over and we can still hear michael sheen. it’s a bit disturbing considering french aziraphale has a higher pitched voice (and he sounds soooo much more anxious than sheen, give this angel a xanax )

“sandwich bœuf cresson” ( beef and cress sandwich ) deirdre really who makes this kind of sandwiches

im being reminded that the chattering nuns prepared little cut outs for their explanation about the antichrist switch… such dedication to useless crafts (it made me laugh on my first viewing and it’s still funny to imagine that some of them either ordered or built these things themselves just so they could make this two minutes long presentation for the most important act of their satanic nun careers)

retire-toi vil démon infernal, créature des abysses XD i swear az doesn’t sound even remotely convinced when he is saying the « get thee behind me foul fiend » line in french, it’s just too over the top for credibility, it sounds like it’s straight out of some super intense dnd session

they still can’t say bouillabaisse (which, like, weird because french, but still valid). nice touch is crowley couldn’t say soupe de poisson (fish stew) either and said poupe de soisson (sish ftew)

warlock mah boy how can you be a teenager and not like dinosaurs

the english version has nothing on french speaking aziraphale for the second hand embarrassement during the magic tour. it’s over 9000 i literally hid my head in my jumper when he was presenting harry the bunny. Horrible experience, 0/20, would not recommend

why is young newton having such a quality dub for the three sentences he has to say

dick turpin’s name is jesse james (tbf dick turpin is not known AT ALL in france, i discovered him reading good omens)

shadwell is pure chaos (as expected). No particular accent for him though, the chaotic energy was probably enough. Would have made me laugh if he had like, a chti or a marseilles accent.

az called crowley mon cher camarade, unintentionnal communist propaganda ftw

« pas de repos pour les… bah, pour les bons » « no rest for the… good » – az was so deflated about the ineptitude he realized he was saying, he felt zero percent commited to his sentence

i was wondering how they would play aziraphale not being able to speak french in the bastille and they opted to have him stutter a bit and say to his executionner « excuse me i’m anxious » XD

« vous êtes le 999e aristo à mourir par mes soins. Mais vous êtes le premier en costume beige » « you’re the 999th aristocrat I’m going to kill, but the first one in beige attire » yeah i guess now that az isn’t english anymore his most noticeable feature is his cream aesthetic

« c’est au cas où ça tournerait en eau de boudin » « j’ADORE le boudin » => « in case it all goes pear shape » - the literal translation featuring food in french is « turning into black sausage water ». I don’t know what pear shaped inspires to english native speakers but the mere mention of boudin always make me giggle, it’s such a funny word and such a funny food

l’apocalypse c’est pour aujourd’hui juste après le goûter : it could be translated as « apocalypse is scheduled for today right after tea time » except that « goûter » is not quite tea time but rather the little sugary snack kids take when they come back from school and that most adults drop out of (i haven’t and i’m sure az hasn’t either). thanks aziraphale for having exclusively food related notion of the time because tbh same

ligur has no right to be this sexy between ariyon bakare and his french voice actor that’s just not allowed

radio crowley’s voice vs french ligur’s voice, who has the sexiest voice : FIGHT

(jk french agnes nutter’s voice is by far the sexiest)

gender neutral doesn’t ‘quite’ exist in french but pollution has been assigned a female voice actress and masculine pronouns (i’m saying it doesn’t quite exist because officially we have no gender neutral, but it’s a serious wip among lgbt+ circles to the point where it’s started being used in a few medias)

hastur « en attendant qu’un plombier vienne » / « while waiting for a plumber to come » does hell have a special plumber unit or do demons have to call on human plumbers for their pipes damages ? Dang hastur having to call a human plumber for hell’s plumbery is another damn good writing prompt for a crack fic

Michael is called Michel in the subtitles but Michael in the audio *shrug emoji*

EP 5

to get a wiggle on has become « il faut qu’on se remue les fesses », literally « we need to shake our butts » like, yes, se remuer les fesses is a common expression to say « we need to act in order to get things done » but it really casts the image of people shaking their booty to some music and obviously crowley thinks the same Weirdly enough I have almost nothing to say for that episode. Sorry. But we’ve discovered most voice actors and actresses so far and no bit of dialogue really struck me as worth discussing or pointing fingers to mock it.

EP 6

« on va BROUTER quelques derrières » - « we’re gonna lick some butts » OK THIS IS UNQUESTIONNABLY FAR SUPERIOR IN FRENCH THAN IN ENGLISH you thought LICKING butts was good ??? you really thought that ???? AZIRAPHALE HERE SUGGESTS TO GRAZE BUTTS. TO NIBBLE THEM. TO EAT THEM. TO. MUNCH. ON. THOSE. BUTTS!!!! not just licking, guys. This is as serious step beyond licking. (oh yeah he should have said « botter » instead of brouter btw, which is really just kicking, fyi)

« moi je crois en la paix, pétasse ! » wow, language, pepper (fyi i think « pétasse » is far far worse than « bitch » even if it means roughly the same, pétasse is almost never used while bitch is rather common, so it’s a swear word +++)

Dagon sounds like she’s got a nasty cold. #GetDagonIbuprofen2K20

I can confirm that Crowley offers Aziraphale to not just stay at his place, but to move in with him. « tu peux t’installer chez moi si tu veux ». omg they were roommates.

Bad translation strikes again : i don’t know why, but the french dub doesn’t have the « tickety-boo » / « ça gaze » being referenced as Rampa / Aziraphale is being knocked down, which is… a real mistep. It was narratively significant and I’m quite mad the translators missed it.

The Jesse James explanation from Newt has become very nonsensical, instead of the neat and to the point pun « wherever I go I hold up trafic » we’re getting a circonvoluted « because it’s a crime to mechanic’s diligence ». I’m not judging that one too hard, I have no idea how to make it better, and that’s probably how it was translated in the book as well thirty years ago, but it definitely doesn’t have the same impact. On the other hand, it definitely IS a very bad joke that doesn’t even deserve a chuckle, so Anathema’s embarassement really matches the audience’s (aka mine).

OVERALL :

I wasn’t convinced by Crowley… I mean, Rampa’s voice at first, but as the nerdiness showed up it really grew on me. I still think that french dubs have often problems with some voice inflexions every here and there, and for instance in Rampa’s case it was when he was annoyed or frustrated ( at the Globe when complaining about horses and Shakespeare’s plays that aren’t comedies, and also when discussing Azirphale’s magic tricks, it’s like… there is a step between having the right amount of grumpy complaining and overdoing it that is overlooked. It’s overacted, it should have been a bit quieter imo. I don’t mean to criticize voice actors too hard either but as an audience watching french dubs this is a very recurring problem and it always feels off to me. It’s actually one of the main reasons I avoid french dubs whenever possible.)

I have a hard time judging Aziraphale’s voice dub because it clashes so much with both the idea I had formed with it when I read the book and Sheen’s delivery that I just… kinda filtered it. It was too high pitched for me, and too anxious (though for this last point I must admit it could be funny at times, but I’m not fond of this character portrayal). The rest of the cast was rather good, nothing to complain about. There wasn’t anything stellar either, but everything that needed to be conveyed was and it was professionnal. It was also very homogeneous, no voice really struck me as being way too bad or way too good compared to the others, so it was really consistant.

So I don’t have much to complain about overall despite a few wonky translations here and there, BUT there is one thing I felt very robbed of : Crowley calling Aziraphale « mon ange » happens only once, when giving a lift to Anathema, and I’m almost certain they translated it that way because otherwise the joke about Anathama mistaking them for a couple wouldn’t work. So, they were forced to make it that way. The rest of the time Crowley calls Aziraphale « l’angelot », and despite being literally translated by « little angel », it feels sarcastic more than anything else ( the « L’ » in front of « angelot » is part of the reason why, it creates some distance, the other reason being that this word in itself has a very corny vibe and people being affectionnate to each other wouldn’t use it as a term of endearment). So, that’s a shame.

I like the English dub much much MUCH better than the French, but the french wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. The voice actors and actresses were quite good, the dialogues mostly faithful and endearing despite a few really missed steps. It really had its moments. Props to brouter des derrières, that one was fantastic.

you shoved your face into the pillow, crashing onto the couch as you seemed to fail yet again at making a beat for the new track you were walking on. you dressed well today, a tight black skirt with a black denim skirt that hugs your waist but it didn’t change your mood nor your ability to make music.

honestly speaking you were new to the studio, starting off other producers saw your potential and decided to have you be the main producer for one of jyp’s newest girl groups.

this was an amazing job, considering you had left america to pursue a career and you felt you had zero confidence in actually making it in. but now here you were, having a mental breakdown in the studio after getting two hours of sleep trying to cram in a nice track before the deadline.

it was stressful.

you managed to keep your eyes open in front of the computer screen fiddling with some last minute adjustments before you could here one of jyp’s music directors come in.

considering he didn’t speak proper english and it had only been your second week into your korean class, it was hard to communicate back and forth.

“how is your work?” the director asked confidently.

you turned around in excitement from the english, not sure if you understood correctly due to the accent.

“i haven’t finished it yet, im so sorry. just give me another 2 hours ill get it done!!”

the director glared at you in confusion but by your expression figured what had happened.

“argh!” he exclaimed, “i can’t work with these american producers!”

your eyes started to tear up. this was the downside of being in korea, you always felt left out. of course korea is open to visitors but living here felt like an outsider in a different world and the fact that you had no time to do your korean classes didn’t help much.

as you whipped your tears you felt a tall blonde enter the room, his confidence gleaming almost as if he owned the room. “did you need my help?” he peeked in whispering to the director.

his hair was wet, his shirt damp of sweat from practicing with the rest of his group. it was bang chan, the leader of stray kids. part of the musical group 3racha, whose beats you had always admired.

the director came to chan and whispered a new words into his ear before turning back to you and waving goodbye. “take care...”

chan stood there for a few seconds, then walking about to the couch and sitting down. you turned around to view him from the front of your recording set.

my god i cant get my head out of this mess so imma rant, then MAYBE i can focus on my assignment like damn babe i thought your passion is stats, why are you obsessing over a guy that doesnt care enough. huh? care about stats instead babe!!!!!! i just want to only have to care about maths but i know my life is ruined if i dont have relationships, so i try. but i must suck at it so bad if everything just ends in flame like this, im so tired im teary eyes.

this is not even about a romantic relationship, i dont even know why i just couldnt like a person like that but damn fine. this is about a male friend i made in grade 11 i guess. i have never liked men. im afraid of them and dont want to have to interact with them ever. i know its bad and i should change but i just really want them away from me im sorry..... so i wasnt even friendly with him, but i was polite, i know how to be a decent person. he was friendly and nice and friends to all which only made me think aw geez just stop being friendly i know this is not because you like me. but i was eating the snack he brought to class anytime he brought it without much thought cause he offered i aint gonna say no. all the while still not consider him a friend. not until a friend said im not being nice if im eating his food while still not seeing him as a friend. and i have always feel bad about not being friendlier towards men in general and he made the 1st move which made it easier for me to just go along. so i did and thats how we became friends.

hes really nice and i mean it. i think really highly of him. maybe its just me having bad luck so i havent met many that are nice?? i really believe they are just myth tbh, im about to settle for that thought. and this guy is really how i wish is the standard for all men. hes just that good, i have no complain. i truly like him and glad that my friend said something cause otherwise we probably wouldnt be friends.

christmas came and before then we were talking about christmas gift and i didnt wanna any so i didnt prepare anything also. this person is too nice and i dont want him to feel bad. but anw i just thought maybe we can still meet up even if its not for gift exchanging. but i didnt ask or anything at all cause well, hes from here, he has family and friends that are definitely closer to him, and he had work. i know hes busy and if he wanna hang out he know where to find me. i just dont want to accidentally add something more onto his list of to do. he would be too nice to say no. and we are not that close i dont want to add more work for him. i dont have relatives or friends here other than him so im free anytime if he wanted to meet up. but that didnt happen, i dont think we talked at all. which fine i hate to admit but i was hurt. ugh hate showing how vulnerable i am. yuck. yikes. -100/10.

came reading week! it really was 1 year from the last time i saw him honestly. he asked to meet up and if i want to go somewhere and tbh no im in the countryside rn is that the corect word so there are no place to go. but i remembered this 2ndhand place i like to go sometimes and i hadnt gone in a while so why not. so we agreed on that. and i know he was probably just tired, and there are people who sigh a lot, its not uncommon. but not seeing him for a long while and knowing this is a place i suggested, him doing that really made me feel bad. i probably shouldnt, but couldnt get the thought that he was probably doing this just because hes friendly not because hes friend with me. it fucking sucked. when we got out and he dropped me back at my home i still felt so bad he didnt get to enjoy himself so i asked if we could watch jojo together. yeah he loves jojo. i dont really care for anime im so sr i prefer realing manga lmao sr.

now ok maybe im still being dumb, probably. but tldr i truly believe people can be friends and affectionate even when they are from opposite sex. it didnt work out so well cause i got molested lmao cause some other guy thought that was cool to do. so that honestly worsen my uh wariness of men. but like i said, i think ive said it, i trust this person. honestly i do, we hug a lot and i had never felt afraid of it. i believe he wont do anything. im just really comfortable around him. so we cuddled while watching anime, that had happened before im really sr if you think thats wrong, i still believe that could happen.

but maybe its because i was tense from thinking he really didnt enjoy hanging out with me that much. i kept connecting remembering what the molester did and while i just knew i swear i knew he wouldnt do anything like that, i couldnt get it out of my head. i felt bad for that but there were just 2 things that happened so similar to what happened with the molester. haizz he kinda laced our fingers together but it wasnt handholding, same thing happened once before with m-dude and it felt weird but i didnt want to question that friendship so i didnt. and at some point of jojo i kinda jumped and he held me back, not pulled me back or anything but was holding me in place, and it was probably to make me feel safe but honestly if anybody even use a little bit of force i will just think of when i finally got the courage to turn around to confront the other dude for touching me, he held me back and i couldnt move at all. i think i froze a bit.

well after that we picked up talking again but idk! was it me overthinking? was it? because it felt like he didnt want to talk to me at all. it was, how to say it. he was friendly yes he talked hmm. damn how-- it felt like he didnt care for what i said. its a feeling idk how to put into words. and that sucks. he didnt seem interested in me before, felt happy enough when we cuddled, then back to being uninterested. i knew i know he doesnt want me romantically. damnit am i only good now for hugs. are we friends? what i meant is not sex but am i only good for physical stuff? i dont fucking know, the m-dude obviously just want a fwb and i was to trusting to notice. is this my gut feeling or my anxiety idk!

another side story. another guy suddenly expressed interested in me right when covid hit but it was because he couldnt get over his ex so i stopped talking to him for a while and picked it back up when i thought he was no longer idk being annoying about it. i thought he had to at least like me as a person to even express he liked me romantically. but apparently not. he looked so uniterested suddenly and denied when i asked, then stopped reading my texts.

so you see. i just cant if haiz ok do- do anybody like me? just as a person? idk.

god i knew i fucking suck for being so sensitive and anxious and im sr for wanting stuff but maybe i want you to look like you care a bit when i said you are reminding me of the m-dude, instead of saying ok we can talk less then. i already felt like you dont want to talk to me, you dont have to say that...

that made me felt better and i was not in panic mode anymore, i can calmly assess things now. and before, i felt bad because i truly believed i was just seeing things, i couldnt see pass my anxiety and was blaming him for what, nothing. he did want to talk to me. but my mind was clearer after that one week and yeah i cant really make more excuses? yes i was sensitive and made things worse, but there must be something for me to pick up first. it didnt just come out of thin air.

so i sent him some texts saying that, because just leaving without a word is bad communication. i have to tell him and at least give him a chance to change i guess? did he need change? im doubting myself.

ive talked about my tendency to lash out. last time i didnt want it but i had to get away quick so i didnt mean it but i still did it. but this time i was truly angry. because i just wished there was more care for me but i know that was all there was, and i couldnt do anything about it. couldnt even ignore him. he was even drier then, and i got it, i lashed out at him, ofc he wasnt going to be friendly. but just why were you trying so hard... no, no it was not trying hard, you were answering texts at the speed of once every 2 days. why were you answering at all? you clearly didnt want to. but again so was i. did i really have a say.

so i sent angry texts at him. about how fake his friendliness was, did he really consider me friend, why did he keep saying no it was not that he was uninterested while it was obvious that he was. also that i want to fight him. i really do want to. hopefully he will beat me up hard enough that i can be in a coma and die in 9 months idk. (listen 9 months is enough time to make a new human, if im not awake by then, you need to let me go, thats my wish.)

he said that no he doesnt like to fight and thats the last text i got from him.

because ofc i dont hate him him, the whole him idk what im saying. just angry and hate that hes not matching me on how we value this relationship i guess. not besties like how he likes to joke, but eh, was hoping more than what i was sensing. i still sent a text being like ok fine do you still want to talk and if so how do you want me to do. but he didnt answer it in time so i decided for him that nah we wont talk anymore.

im moving to uni city next month but i know he will leave in the summer so i wont have to worry about seeing him then. and probably not further in the future either, we go to different uni and are quite far away and our common are not gonna question things i dont think. dont think they would even notice, we are not in a group or anything. and even if i do end up meeting him. my feelings while was anger, but it stemmed from sadness and disappointment so it wouldnt be too bad. on the other hand... m-dude..... i am afraid of meeting you, lets please please please not meet damnit.

ii wrote a little ship thing for charlson! It’s much better to read it on my ao3(link in the about) because tumblr is being a fuck and won’t let it be seen so technically im posting this again. Anyway, I hope you all like it! And please be sure to leave constructive criticism if you have any!

Hm.

The smell from the flowers is so sweet, it almost caught him off guard when he walked into the shop. Gosh, hopefully his allergies won’t start up. He would hate to look like such a sneezing mess in public.

The shop reminded Wilson of a little cabin, homey and bit nostalgic with the jazz music that played through the shop’s speakers. Flowers of all sorts of beautiful arrangements filled the wooden stands. Some were even in little pots, hanging on the ceiling. As elaborate as the arrangements were, he was just trying to look for a simple flower that would light up his apartment. Maybe that pink camellia over there? Oh but the price… He’ll have to look for something cheaper. That lilac has such a wonderful magenta hue! It would look great on the kitchen table! Ok but that forget-me-not is also pretty nice too-

Argh! How indecisive can he be?! And all of this for a flower? Wilson frustratingly tapped his foot to the rhythm of the music. Those valerians are super pretty… And those daffodils would make a good combination with it- Wait can’t he just pick those from the ground? He doesn’t have to pay for something that he can get for free.

It wasn’t long until his attention turned to an interesting arrangement of roses. He wasn’t sure why, but it captivated him. Could it be how they layered onto each other? Or the lovely colors? The red circling the yellow, kissed with the tiniest hint of the ruby color. And to top it off, a single lavender rose right in the middle. He quietly eyed it; a sense of longing filled his mind.

… She would have loved this.

Lost in thought, he didn’t notice the giant blue vase heading towards him. Wilson… The vase is getting closer… Oh god, he’s too distracted… OH GOD WILSON-

The vase collided onto his back, the force sending him down on the ground. “Oh gosh, I’m really sorry!” The speaker behind the vase quickly set it down near an empty table. “I didn’t mean to bump into you!”

That voice… It’s… Familiar. “No no, it’s quite alright. I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t see you were coming” he awkwardly laughed while avoiding their gaze. Gosh this so embarrassing

“Here, let me help you up” the person offered their hand. Wilson grabbed it and was pulled back up.

“Thank you for that. Sorry for-“ he side-eyed the person. Wait. He did a massive double-take and his eyes widened. Oh my god, same face, same voice. “C-Charlie?” his voice was breathless, completely shocked at the sight before him.

“Wilson?”

“I-I-I” is this real? Could this really be his Charlie? Oh won’t someone pinch him he must be dreaming! Wilson nodded his head, his eyes on the verge of tears. “Oh, Charlie I- achoo”

Ah crap.

His sneezes became more erratic as his eyes became a waterfall. Seriously? Out of any moment in time, why did his allergies have to start now? “Achoo- Char- achoo” is he crying or just having bad allergies? Maybe both. Whatever it is, Wilson slowly became an utter sneezing mess.

Charlie handed him a box of tissues from the front counter. “Hey,” she whispered as she caressed his cheek “how bout we get away from all these flowers, ok?”

There were some small sniffles as he wiped his tears away. By now this man looked like an ugly crying cat who also had a bad pollen allergy “...ok”

Wilson blew his nose as Charlie leaned back on the concrete wall. She had brought him to the back of the store, where there’s no pollen but instead, the cold, foggy, grey world of the city. But it’s near the dumpster with rotting flowers so… Hopefully that won’t bother him.

“It’s been so long. How’ve you been? How’s everyone else?”

“Oh! Um…” Wilson threw away the used tissues. “Everyone’s trying to get into the swing of things. Some got their dream jobs, others are working towards it, the kids are all home-schooled by Ms. Wickerbottom when she’s off from her library, I think Willow and Wx are wandering around exploring the modern world” a smile appeared on Wilson’s face as he thought about his friends.

”And as for me, I’m working two jobs trying to save up for going back to graduate school” It definitely is tiring, especially with their long hours. But hey, it pays the bills.

“Oh really?” she clasped her hands together as she giggled “that’s great I’m so happy for all of you!”

He chuckled and began to admire his love. Stars, she’s beautiful. And her giggle? Music to his ears! He began blushing, just losing himself in her eyes. How happy he was to see her, safe and sound. After all this time…

After all this time…

“Charlie?”

“Yes honey?”

“How did you escape?” He tugged on the strings of his sweater. Hm… Nervous. “The last time I saw you it was with everyone at the portal… And you said you had to stay behind and... Yeah”

There was a moment of silence between them, the sound of cars passing by, filling the empty void. The old queen rubbed her arm, thinking about the time spent in complete isolation. No new survivors appeared. Nothing fell from the sky. Only the shadows kept her company in the vast emptiness of the Constant. “It’s a bit hard to explain”

Shit. Did he open up a big wound? “Yo-ou don’t have to ta-alk about it i-if you don’t want to” he stumbled over his words.

“No no, it’s fine” she smiled, attempting to show him no harm done. “Let’s see… Where to begin” The beginning, middle, or the end? Maybe a short summary would do. “Well, when you guys left, They managed to destroy the Gateway, so I won’t have the chance to follow suit” she fiddled with the pockets from her apron. “Literally nothing was salvageable, everything was turned into goopy nightmare fuel”

“Oh…” Stars. How hellbent where these things on keeping her behind? “Then what did you do?”

“For a while, nothing” her voice became low and quiet as she watched the clouds pass by. “When the Gateway was destroyed, my hopes immediately came crashing down. I wasn’t sure if there were even other ways of getting out. So I just sulked around the Constant” And how boring and lonely it all was. A queen without any subjects and an empty kingdom. “Then one day, I got tired and finally stood up to Them… By fighting them”

“Wh- I- CHARLIE OH MY GOD! DID YOU GET HURT?!”

“Um… yeah I kinda did. And it was pretty painful, to be honest, ha ha” ha ha. Ha ha. Awkward laughter “But! In the end, I managed to win!” She grinned triumphantly “Bet that taught ‘em a lesson or two!”

“I bet it did” he chuckled. Some of the anxiety he felt washed away. But he’s still not over the fact that his girlfriend beat the shit out of a shadow hivemind. “Then what happened?”

“Hm. That part is a bit foggy. The last thing I can remember is that I woke up back in San Francisco. And that’s all”

Wilson leaned on Charlie’s shoulder. “You’ve been through so much,” his voice, soft and whispery “and now you’re finally free. Darling, I’m so happy to see you safe and sound”

“I am too” she ran her fingers through his hair “We can finally be together without any stress of constant survival”

“Everyone can get second chances”

“Be happier”

“Safer”

“And They won’t hurt us again” she turned to Wilson and smiled “I’m sure of it”

He smiled back at her “I guess our determination really overshadowed Them, huh?”

Charlie giggled “I guess it did” she leaned down and planted a kiss on his forehead.

Wilson gently pulled her into a soft hug, nuzzling her. The old queen crouched down and nestled into it, hugging him back a bit tighter. They silently stayed in each other’s arms, not wanting to let go.

Reunited at last.

Nothing stopping them, nothing to harm them, nothing at all.

TIME TO GUSH ABOUT TLJ cause I was looking through screenshots and here’s a bunch of things I might not have mentioned before and a few that I have

1) Paige Tico!!!! PAIGE TICO! her entire time in the spotlight is such a perfectly crafted, perfectly tense scene

2) UM THE OPENING SPACE BATTLE IS SICK the bombers have such striking silhouettes and this is used for some amazing shots

3) PAIGE’S DEATH BEING PRESENTED AS TRAGEDY (and not being softened heavily with the promise of being part of something meaningful the way R1′s deaths are)

4) Captain Candy Crush’s death is given gravity too and I stan this, he’s not made sympathetic and still there’s nothing triumphant about people being blown up. war is not good

5) Finn’s pod is very flattering and angelic even though his water suit is silly. he basically has a halo and no filmmaker would accidentally give a character a halo so jot that down

6) Snoke’s throne room being utilitarian AND extravagant at the same time is impressive. also I still love the way that Snoke’s real form was made to be this exaggeratedly WASPy old man with the skin texture and wrinkles and pale tufty eyebrow hair, and you know what else? the fact that the camera favors showing the undamaged side of his face. I fucking stan the fact that Johnson took another disfigured villain and played up his old caucasian grandpa looks and made his disfigurement blend into his age. Snoke is a caricature of horrid old white men, possibly the first successful caricature of whiteness in speculative fiction. he looks like Henry Kissinger

7) Kylo Ren’s bandaid has a pattern on it. we ask ourselves. why. did he get to pick out the pattern. are there multiple patterns. are they all edgy and black. I’m now completely invested in whoever decided that they would have patterned bandaids but not make them TOO fun

8) the movie is so pretty im just. the fuckign. aesthetic. all of it. the palette seems to have been taken from a thunderstorm and it’s perfect. the use of gray is a reason I happen to think people didn’t like the film. they were like what the fuck is all this gray in star wars. star wars shouldn’t be gray. but it’s so unique, it’s not the gray of lazy color grading, it’s the gray of someone who knew that the feeling of haze and uncertainty needed some gray and rolled it in like a fog. I’m going to have to post more screenshots

9) I like the fact that the puppet porgs, as opposed to the CGI porgs, are actually kinda ugly cute

10) everything mark hamill does is perfect. every line, every facial expression, every pose. every moment from luke in tlj is unbelievably iconic. alec guinness would be so jealous

11) Luke perking up and genuinely smiling when he sees R2D2 is the purest moment I have to just

my eyes are moist

12) the architecture and set design is so amazing too? I love this shot introducing Rose, the harsh contrast that draws your eye away from her, the way she’s fading into her corner of brownish-gray, it’s so good for evoking... idk, just how the world seems too bright and too stark and made of shapes, after someone you love dies

13) I really love how much time we spend on Ahch-To, and how none of it has any campy space action. you’d expect to see some training there, but a lot of people were clearly hoping that Luke and Rey would leave the planet. but we linger so much on the setting, a setting which wholly embodies Luke’s state of mind

14) old luke is a handsome gent. i don’t see enough people with the hots for old luke. this is a big mistake

15) this shot foreshadows Kylo Ren becoming the Supreme Leader IMO. we see him surveying the war machine, watching the instruments of death be constructed, set apart from everyone -- a glimpse into Kylo’s desire for absolute power without anything being direct. maybe he’s contemplating his isolated existence, how much he doesn’t belong in the Order. or maybe he sees an allure to all this. this is what he wants to possess. it’s probably a mixture of both

16) Rey and Luke!!!!!!! everything about how the film frames them develops their relationship!! even as Luke is testy with her, we get shots like these where they’re sharing a warm sunset light and having deep heart to hearts.

and you know what you know what what what

the fact that Rey starts asking WHO her parents are after meeting Luke is uhh clearly suggesting that she’s wondering if maybe Luke is her dad. I love in this one shot how he’s slumped and she’s sitting up straighter, making him the vulnerable one. I love how the sunset light highlights Rey’s buns. I love that she keeps her buns for a while. I love that people have headcanoned she kept the buns so that her parents would recognize her, and she has the buns in the whole time she’s trying to get Luke to act like the hero she believes in. like she’s trying to get him to recognize her

Rey adopts Luke as her dad and it’s beautiful get out of my face

17) ye there’s a lot of dead children but also I hadn’t really thought about the fact that R2 watched this as well? and R2 was powered off for so long, until the end of TFA? R2 was traumatized and grieving too, and he’s seen this before, he remembers all the way back to when it was Anakin

18) hors!!!!!!!

19) what the SHIT is this why is this movie a fucking painting why does it keep outdoing itself in paintingness argh the way this film uses the day-night cycle is unbelievable, having Rey and Finn’s stories be connected by having the same time

THE HCKING MOON THOUGH

20) Ok we could talk about how the cold blue moonlight of uncertainty has become the warm orange light of companionship but we can’t forget what firelight also represents re: Kylo cough burning temple nice little double meaning, is Rey making a new friend or is she being tempted, is he going to warm her or burn her

but also I haven’t thought about how fucking awkward Kylo looks!! is he sitting on that barrel?? like since he’s not there is he just sort of compositing himself into the scene? using a convenient barrel

21) see what I mean about blue being cold. blue = asceticism, red = indulgence, the two extremes

22) Luke sinks into darkness

23) BUT HE DOES ONE THING! the thing that breaks him out of his depression. he takes the fire -- which represents the burned temple, represents Ben Solo, represents the humanity of the Dark Side -- into his own hands. we see the fire symbolizing destruction, then intimacy, then change, in such short succession

fire represents light-dark, something that is both at once. we’ll get back to this

24) you could say that balance is about making your own light in the darkness

also this is why Poe’s line about being the spark that will burn the First Order down isn’t ~too violent~ cause fire has become a symbol of change, of destruction reclaimed as something restorative, thank you very much

25) can we talk about the fact that between this being like a coffin and the way Rey is holding the saber, this actually has the heaviest resemblance to the way medieval knights were depicted atop their sarcophagi. I don’t even know what it means but maybe it hints that Rey sees herself as a martyr and a crusader in this quest to redeem Kylo and prove her valor

26) the fact that Poe isn’t the only one who gets in on the coup. because the Resistance isn’t a real military it’s a few thousand antifas gathered from all around the galaxy and their numbers are dwindling fast. people kind of put it all on Poe but Connix and Finn and Rose and this woman and this man and this alien were part of it too, and they could have told Poe to cut it out. I like how the blonde woman seems like she’s not sure what’s going on, she’s evaluating the situation

27) you know what I stan? I continue to stan aspects of how Snoke is portrayed. I stan the fact that he gets all close up in Rey’s face and grabs her cheek and it kind of mirrors the way Kylo gets in her personal space in TFA but even less so than in TFA, Rey is not framed in the way girls often are when they’re restrained and in distress. when she’s being tortured, we’re not given any tantalizing views of her body. Snoke floating her around the room has her stiff and awkward, and the close-up of her screaming in pain puts the camera behind her head so we see this from her POV, we’re not voyeuristically staring at her, we’re experiencing this indignity with her

28) Kylo Ren killing Snoke has the exact same light on his face as when he killed Han Solo. this is very very interesting

here I am in my corner of Kylo having twisted affection for Snoke as well

29) I wish I could ship this more cause I don’t need all this talk of fairy tale weddings and force pregnancies when here they are slicing up lobster boys with laser swords

30) oh but this is where he makes Rey look sad and thats where!!! you know hes gonna have to pay!!! basically everything about the scene where Kylo tears Rey’s heart out and stomps on it and then asks her to be grateful is extremely well done and it did its intended job of making me Big Mad At Kylo

also look the fire is back its Symbolic

31) you know what I can’t show in this post? the FUCKING SOUND THAT COMES AFTER THE HYPERSPEED RAM. that sound is the most glorious sound I’ve heard come out of a movie. it’s like a massive metal whale’s death scream. Star Wars has always run on sound design but literally that sound (along with the scene it’s attached to) outdoes everything that has come before it holy wow

32) Finn WHACKING Phasma. he didn’t use a lightsaber in this film, but he uses the baton he picked up the same way he used the lightsaber, and it even glows blue for good measure. and we can’t forget that this movie shows a boy holding a broom like a lightsaber, and Rey practicing saberplay with her staff, so -- objects that are not lightsabers symbolizing lightsabers is a thing

33) I didn’t think about the fact that the Supreme Leader’s throne room is designed to display a view of the outside, or be cloaked in red. possibly it could display anything it pleases. this is great fun for imagining First Order characters making it display things they want to see, like beautiful vistas, or holofilms. possibly it can recreate whole scenes, like a Star Trek holodeck

34) I don’t have to talk about how Leia is framed by the dawn on Crait do I? we already got the picture when it comes to the day-night cycle and how beautiful it is

35) BABY 8 I can’t believe this droid gets belly scritches and nuzzles from Poe

36) fucking love when Kylo finally snaps and starts throwing petty tantrums again at the end of the film like he holds back his brattiness for 12 hours and then here comes the screaming and foot stamping and flailing

I have thrown too many temper tantrums in my life to not want to see one on the big screen in its full glory. no one has pushed him to the point where he’s just ugly crying on the floor, spewing snot and tearing at his hair

I got vicarious pleasure out of Poe’s outburst on the bridge too. people being angry and not being in the right. it’s something I need for catharsis

37) miniaturized Death Star technology aka BIGGEST LIGHTSABER. Kylo stop compensating

but AU where a ginormous person uses the cannon as an actual saber

38) I’VE TALKED ABOUT HOW FINN’S MOMENT IS IN MY TOP TWO FEELS MOMENTS (top one is the hyperslice) but basically if you don’t think he was affected by seeing the slave kids on Canto Bight, what do you think he’s so angry about here, what do you think has him in a blinding rage?

why do movies have to spell everything out for people in exhaustive detail? the only new thing Finn gets from his experience with Rose, is seeing how the First Order isn’t this isolated enclave of evil. the most powerful people in the galaxy have been supporting it all along. he stops trying to run away because he realizes there is nowhere he can run that won’t have injustice. and he’s seen villagers being massacred, he’s seen the Order attack people he cares about, he’s been personally threatened and had one-on-one duels, but on his trip with Rose he sees children being beaten into submission with electric whips

can’t believe people think Finn wasn’t affected by that when it’s the one thing motivating his character growth

every time he sees civilians getting hurt -- children and families -- he sees himself and the family he’ll never know in them, and is so overwhelmed that he does something brash and radical and self-endangering every time, and his arc is about learning to live with that anger. he runs away from feeling and his angst is so beautiful

and I’m still in the camp of Finn having had a Zuko-like arc when he was a teenager because that boiling frustration at not being able to express his natural empathy is what drove Zuko to angst so hard

FINN IS THE SOLIDARITY KING! HE CARES SO FUCKING MUCH

39) fire. Luke facing his demons involves him walking through a gate of flame, out of the darkness, into the light

I will say that this is also very Buddhist imagery -- the flaming sword symbolizes wisdom, which cuts through the veil of illusion, specifically the illusion of duality

“Mañjuśrī is depicted as a male bodhisattva wielding a flaming sword in his right hand, representing the realization of transcendent wisdom which cuts down ignorance and duality”

and of course fire being the bridge between light and dark has come up before in the film. the veil is visibly burning here, Luke having fully reclaimed the image of fire, which was earlier in the film held by Kylo Ren

I mean. just. YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

40) something about this shot is extra special. everything that’s going on on the salt flats is like on this higher dimension, this spiritual plane

41) for a moment it looks like Luke and the First Order are standing against Kylo. gives you a glimpse into Kylo’s state of mind. is the Order his weapon, or his enemy? it’s both, and he’s absolutely terrified of it

also I’ve talked about how Palpatine’s Contingency plan is about getting revenge on his Empire because he hates its power as much as he revels in it, and he dedicates a good deal of time plotting ways to kill it, because he needs to prove that he is more powerful than it

being the Emperor or Supreme Leader carries with it the distinct horror of knowing that you can never be more powerful than the thing that has empowered you

44) the slope of the floor is the slope of the opening crawl of a Star Wars film

The Discovery

Judy scowled as she walked to Nick office. She’s holding a cup of coffee in her hands. A month working with Nick is harder than she thought was. Her daily work consist of working out Nick paperwork or doing what she’s been told by him. Judy colleagues notice it and tease her for it. They even have a nickname for her based on her daily activity, “The secretary”. Judy was so embrassed because of that. A voice called from behind stopped Judy in her track.

“Hey, Judy, you’re doing another “special” errand ?” said wolfword

The mammals around there chuckle as he said that. Judy Felt embrassed and furious as she continue walking ignoring them. Judy slammed the door to Nick office and goes straight to his desk.

“Here’s your coffee” Said Judy in anger before going back to her desk and continue her work.

Nick Notice her tone, but simply don’t care. He’s Concetrating at the file in front of him. Yesterday, a dead body has been found in an alley with no bruises or scar or anything . This was the seventh the same thing happen. There were no leads regarding the cause of it. Fortunately for Nick, This time there was a Witness, a Hippo with the name of Michael. He said he sees the victim talking in the alley with a sheep before suddenly fall to the ground. The sheep ran away when Michael approach them and call for help. When the medic comes, they said the victim was still alive as they heard his heartbeat, but the victim is not moving at all even though his eyes are still opened. The victim died 3 hours later because of heart failure. The police comes to conclusion this was an ordinary overdosed junkie and closed the case. But his Instict tells him there’s something else going on there. Therefore he checked it back to see what’s he’s missing.

I need more information, Nick thought. Nick can only think of one person if it involves a drug.

“Hey, rabbit, give this to Bogo, and tell him I need to check something out !” said Nick as he placed the file on Judy table.

“Sir, with all due respect, I have a name and it’s Judy Hopps, and I would appreciated if you call me by that name” said Judy while holding her anger.

Nick doesn’t care and exited the room.

Jerk, Judy thought.

She looked at the file Nick placed, and a thought cross her mind as she open the file and read it.

“C’mon People ! I already discount this 50 percent off, and you still want more ?” A weasel protest as mammals walk by his store not paying attention to him.

“Weaselton…” a voice from behind creep him as his eyes widened.

Weaselton is a cautious mammals because of his past of working in the underground. It’s impossible to sneak up to him, but when he IS being sneaked up, he knows there’s only one mammals that capable of doing that. Weaselton slowly turned around to see that familiar face.

“Oh, oh, hey Wilde, can I help you ?” said the weasel nervously

“I need some information regarding some drug dealers” Nick answered

Weaselton eyes widened even more when he hears that.

“No ! I told you before, I don’t want to involve in any of your cases anymore, it will only bring problem to me” Weaselton said trying to stand his ground.

Nick didn’t answer and instead stared deeply into the weasel eyes. Weasealton feels more nervous as he looked into Nick stares and remembered what Nick did to him a long time ago, and finally give up.

”Allright, Allright, just don’t do that thing again to me, I beg you !” he pleaded

“I’m looking for a new dealer, specificly a sheep” Nick said

“You’re searching for a ram named Doug, before you decided to hear about this guy, I warning you, that guy is the kind of guy you want to avoid”

“Tell me more”

This is it, thought Nick while looking at the cheap hotel as he making sure this was the right address weaselton gave to him. He proceed to the to the intended room and stopped in front of the door. Nick could hear a music playing inside the room.

“Excuse me, pizze delivery” Nick lied

There’s no answer.

Didn’t buy it huh, Thought Nick as he drew his gun and Kicked the door open. What he found there make him astonished. The room was a mess, but there’s one particular thing that drawing Nick attention. The ram he’s looking for was seated in the middle of the room, covered in blood with his hand tied.

What happened here ? , Nick wondered as he sees the ram is not moving. A glimpse of figure jumping out of the room through the window, returns him to reality. Nick let his Instict takes over and immediately chase to the alley outside. But his chase only last until the figure take a turn and vanished out of the thin air.

Shit, I lost him, Nick cursed himself for letting the figure go. Nick decided to go back to the hotel room, and checked it. He Checked doug pulse and confirmed he’s already dead , his face was swollen, probably because the figure punch him In the face over and over.

He’s being tortured, but for what exactly ? Nick wondered. He search the room and found nothing until he checked the bathroom and found Doug stash below the sink. It was some kind of pill, he put it down as he doesn’t know what is the drug and who made it. Nick then search the only place he hasn’t checked yet, when he found a piece of paper in doug’s hand. It contains a series of number. Nick thought it for a few moment and realize it was a coordinate. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

“Clawhauser ? I found a dead body In hill street resort, downtown, send backup will ya” He hung up without giving clawhauser a chance to respond.

Nick dialed another number in his phone.

“Bunny, I need you to go into my computer and checked a coordinate for me”

“For the last time sir, im….., argh just forget it, wait a second” Judy said

“What’s the coordinate ?”

“85 87 33 66 80” Nick answered

Nick hears a typing sound on the line.

”There’s no record of that coordinate sir, it only shows a blank area” Judy answered

“what’s the closest area to there ? “ Nick asked

“Banyon st, in the edge of savanna central, can I ask you what is this coordinate sir ?”

Nick hung up.

I better leave before that buffalo butt start asking report, Nick thought as he leaves the scene.

Unknown to Nick, a pair of eyes watched him the whole time from the moment Nick re-entered the room.

“Boss ?”

“Is it done ?”

“Yes, but we have a problem”

“What is it ?”

“The ram won’t give up the answer and died before telling it”

The voice on the other line became silent.

“But, there was a fox who break in, it seems like he’s somekind of detective, and found something, What do you want me to do about him ?”

“Follow him, Capture him if possible, don’t kill him until you get the answer”

“Ok boss”

“Sir ?, hello Sir?”

Judy slammed the phone when she realize Nick was hang up on her. That fox !, Judy thought in anger. Judy look at the coordinate. She connected the dots and assumed the coordinate is a place that connected in his case. Her thought this morning resurfaced in her mind. She rethinks it, but her anger decided her choice. I had enough of this, I’m gonna find that place first, and solve this case, leaving that fox dumbfounded, Judy thought.

Judy drive to savanna central with her meter maid cart, because that’s the only vehicle she’s get.

Ugh, when will I get a real car, She complained

She looked around the edge to find the area and found an abandoned industrial area.

This seems about it, Judy thought In happiness.

The sign says : Wether industry

Judy hearts sank when she sees the gate are opened.

Oh no, did he already come ? , Judy thought, and sure enough, it’s confirmed when she saw Nick’s car parked in front of the warehouse. A few moments later, the fox comes out from the warehouse. When He saw Judy and his eyes widened a little bit before going back to his poker face.

“What did I say about not disturbing me” Nick said

Judy didn’t think this far, she thought Nick will have a trouble finding the place, blinded by her anger she was forgetting that the fox is not just a regular detective but a veteran one, of course finding places like this is easy for him. With that in mind, Judy tried to reasoned.

“I can explained sir….” She pauses and raise her ears. A sound of a gun safety being release is heard by her. Nick noticed her expression and look at the direction she concentrated to hears. He Saw in afar 3 armed mammals are coming toward them. They both freeze when they see that until one of the mammals raise his gun to them and start shooting.Nick reflexes took over as he grabbed Judy by her arms and pull her behind his car. A second later, there was a loud sound of The car penetrated by bullets.

“Stop it, We don’t want to kill them yet” One of the mammals shouted

Judy still in shock, she knows what about to happen before as she heard the sound, but she couldn’t react fast enough. If Nick didn’t pull her, She would’ve be…

Judy face become pale when she imagine that. Nick take a peak and sees them clear now, It was a wolf and a two tiger.

“Hopps ! call backup”

Nick order return Judy to reality, She reached her intercom and started to call.

“Clawhauser !”

“Judy ? what’s wrong ?” clawhauser asked from the other end

“We currently in an abandoned neighborhood near…..”

She was cut off when her intercom suddenly breaking into pieces and a hole appeared on the car. When they looked behind there was no one there.

“sniper” said Nick looking around him

“Fox, come out, by now you must have realized that our sniper has you on his sight right ?” Nick peak and sees the wolf shouting at them.

“The only reason you’re not dead yet are because we just want to talk, specifically about what you found” the wolf continued

Nick thought the only way to escape the sniper sight.

“hopps, c’mon”

He grabbed Judy arm and run toward the abandoned warehouse.

“Ah, You want to play hide and seek ? fine by me” The wolf shout as he sees Nick and judy getting in to the abandoned warehouse.

“ray, get down here and take the boys to the back door, I handle the front” The wolf said in his intercom

“Copy that boss”

Yep, it’s officially became an AU series.

This is the shortest chapter, it’s just to fill in the gap to The getaway.

Next chapter will be Nick’s past.

pod signal cuts in n out after its established whats needed to fix it so 9s is chasin it. and finally he sees a2 in the desert
