#ARCO ARC HERE I COME!!!!

we've known for a while that novel lloyd and webcomic lloyd are two different characters but this really shows the kind of character the adaptation team has turned lloyd into.

like. i cannot begin to emphasize how not true this is for novel!lloyd. at all. he's constantly lying about his feelings both to others and to himself, a big part of his emotional conflict with javier is about javier wanting lloyd to show him how he truly feels and lloyd lying straight to his face about it, being dishonest about his emotions and feelings is a core part of his character and him finally letting himself be open and honest is meant to be the payoff of his emotional arc.

the way he feels and the things he shows and says are not the same.

heck not even his feelings and his thoughts are the same!

It was truly a strange thing. He was giving away a tremendous gift without anything in return. Yet, his heart was light and filled with relief. And even though he said it was a wasted opportunity or whatever, truthfully speaking, he didn't feel that way. Tsk. It's not because that hooligan Frontera made me weak, or because I feel guilty. I'm doing this because I'm tired of its whining. It is beyond annoying to hear Frontera whining, insisting, and begging for me to take responsibility and help out. Lloyd thought this was an opportunity for him to get rid of one less burden of his. It was the cost of getting rid of this pesky burden. This was an investment. So, he concluded that he wasn't being a fool. He was doing this for Arcos and Marbella Frontera. Lloyd reiterated these thoughts in his head and pulled himself together.

like. he will lie to himself about his reasons for doing kind things and justify them as actually selfish and self-interested when we know that's not true.

he betrays his feelings with his actions, him being a good person and being unable to hide it or change it despite his best efforts is also an integral part of his characterization but it's not something he willingly shows or something he's even willing to admit to himself much less to other people.

which. is exactly the opposite of what this scene was about? i think? like. the conflict here was,, someone trying to prove that lloyd's actions aren't actually selfless and that he has a hidden agenda and lloyd proving that notion wrong by rejecting. but,, that's exactly the opposite of what lloyd wants to project about himself?

like. this is a man that when told directly to his face that he's a good person who when left to his own devices will help others for no gain to himself by a higher being whose literal job is to judge souls' goodness he will just go "nuh uh" and insist everything he does is for his personal gain and not the greater good or anything like that.

he would not be emotionally honest enough to have this kind of realization and much less to share it with some fucking guy trying to kill him.

i just. i want to know so bad what the adaptation team wanted to prove with this interaction. like. what was the purpose of it. what did they want to tell us about lloyd by having him say this.

personally i find it so diametrically opposed to lloyd's characterization in the novel that i just. i don't understand how they could've come up with this scene if they understood his character in the novel like. at all.

Sorry y'all this one's gonna be a long one lol fun analysis/theorizing/headcanoning whatever the fuck this is under the cut :)

So, lately I've been really thinking about Lambo and Tsuna's relationship, Lambo's connection to Vongola, and Lambo's spot as the Lightning Guardian. I know as a fandom, we tend to disregard Lambo because he has like.. two fights in the whole series or wish that someone else was made the Lightning Guardian because that boy is Literally Five. And I won't act like it wouldn't have been cool to see another character as Lightning Guardian (My Haru Guardian fans rise up where are you) but I think what Amanos done here is really fun too from an analysis perspective.

To start with, Tsuna's family is not really a..traditional Mafia family or even a traditional Vongola family either. Let's look at this here, he's got his Two Best Friends(TM), his crush's big brother, the leader of the Disciplinary Committee at his school, a criminal, a half dead girl, and the aforementioned five year old as his guardians. This is FAR from what's likely expected out of the Vongola family, even when you date it back to Primo AT LEAST PRIMO HAD PRINCES, PRIESTS, SAMURAIS as his guardians. (Though he gets away with having One Best Friend (TM) as his guardian.) Yet somehow, their family makes it work!! They survive the Mafia world, multiple times throughout the series and when it's not working they get stronger as a unit and they fight for each other and make it out together. And I think that's the beauty of their specific family.

So then you have Lambo, who Tsuna would do anything for just to avoid Lambo having to experience a fraction of the shit they go through. And Tsuna actually SUCCEEDS at this, he doesn't normally succeed when it comes to being avoidant of Mafia stuff but this was something throughout the series that he was so genuinely adamant against. He only let Lambo fight when he truly had to and even then he very minimally let the Mafia world wrap its greedy paws around Lambo. Kokuyo arc, Tsuna didn't even sort of kind of a little bit consider taking Lambo with them (which would later help keep Kyoko and Haru safe), Varia arc, knowing that this would disqualify him, Tsuna decided he could not allow Lambo to keep fighting.

Future Arc, Tsuna kept Lambo out of the fight as much as he could, allowing the non-fighters to take care of him and I-pin. Shimon Arc, Tsuna felt real regret at the prospect that he allowed Lambo to come.

(And Arco arc where Lambo was hardly present at either, which I'd like to imagine that if Lambo was involved in Arco arc then Tsuna may have just absolutely fucking died)

Tsuna to Lambo is not his guardian (Frankly, he doesn't view any of his guardians as such, they are his friends, his pride, his comrades, and those he has traded blows with and knows they can be trusted.) Lambo to Tsuna is his little brother. This five year old was sent on an assassination attempt that was absolutely in no circumstance meant to actually succeed and the Bovinos know that. To send Lambo to assassinate the strongest hitman was a death mission. So, Tsuna took this child in (or rather this child stuck around bc his Mom makes banger meals) and immediately Tsuna assumes the role of his brother. Lambo and Tsuna are the closest out of all the kids. (Ofc Tsuna loves I-pin and fuuta too, but I think it's safe to say Lambo is his dumb little brother)

Now, I don't think that Tsuna is ever going to see Lambo as anything but his little brother. I actually theorize that the way TYL Lambo is the way he is because Tsuna never really got out of the habit of babying him. He's calmed down since he was a kid and developed a more nonchalant personality with the occasional tantrum because you can't tell me Tsuna DOESNT STILL view TYL Lambo as a non-combatant. When Tsunas 15, he looks at 5 year old Lambo and goes no thanks that boy is never touching a weapon in his life. When Tsunas is 25, he sees 15 year Lambo and goes that is STILL a child he is never touching a weapon in his life. And yes he's completely unaware of the hypocrisy in my head.

This is a spoiled little brother no one can tell me otherwise.

So we know Tsuna just sees him as his kid brother and not a real guardian. But then you have Lambo's feelings about the whole matter. We know that Lambo doesn't really consider Tsuna a boss but as his big brother, but I don't think that changes a lot for Lambo. While fighting is scary for Lambo, he still desires to follow alongside Tsuna and his friends. He doesn't want to be left behind and makes Tsuna promise him he'll take him wherever he goes. He sees Tsuna freaking out about him being a child in a battlefield and he goes, "No you don't understand, I want to be there."

And that? That right there is what fucks me up after everything. Lambo as a concept for a Lightning Guardian feels really unique because of this. He's the youngest one. He's always going to chase after the others, trying to keep up with them, to walk alongside them. One day, he wants to catch up and be considered a rightful Guardian like the others. And that is so... Tsuna and him would be batting heads over this because I cannot see Tsuna relenting on Lambo staying out of the battle. I cannot see Tsuna ever feeling like Lambo's ready. Not because he thinks Lambo is weak, but because Lambo's his baby brother and Tsuna needs him more away from the battle or else he can't focus.

While Tsuna doesn't react outwardly in this frame, I do think it's not a coincidence that he could focus on fighting the battle and not be "impatient" as Reborn put it, the moment he saw Gokudera and Hibari on the battlefield. He could focus easier knowing his friends were running around saving Lambo and co.

Okay, so you have the Big brother who wants to protect his little brother from seeing the same stuff he does, from fighting the same battles he does, and wants him to grow up as a regular kid (a right which he had been robbed off the moment a certain hitman showed up at his door). Then you have the little brother who wants wholeheartedly to be there, desires to catch up to his big brother and know the world that his big brother knows.

How does this difference in value get addressed? well it doesn't because Lambo is still 5 and Shounen jump are cowards for ending Amanos series when they did <3 B U T we have this.

We all know this scene for when we rewatched Reborn for the first and went "..wait.." because that was some actually sweet foreshadowing from Amano. Okay, so. We have a Lambo who finally did it. Finally is someone worthy of being called the Vongola Lightning Guardian. And Tsuna and co are implied to have just been... Gone. All of Tsuna's efforts to raise this kid in a regular life are ripped away because something happens to HIM, not Lambo. And from Lambo's perspective, he's caught up finally but the person he was following isn't around anymore. He didn't think he'd see him again. I think it's safe to assume that this scene either implies that something happens to Tsuna in his 30s (since we know he wasn't actually dead TYL) OR 20yl Lambo is from a parallel world where Byakuran had actually won and actually took Tsunas life.

And I think that's some real meat to bite into for these characters. A little brother who will lose his big brother if he doesn't do something, get stronger in time. A big brother who won't let him join the battle because he's afraid of losing HIS little brother. A Vongola Lightning Guardian who wants to be a shield for his Boss, and a Boss won't let him be a shield.

And that? That's a good concept for a Vongola Lightning Guardian.

⠀⠀I confess, I've been anxious about Venom (2018) for a long time (which I read in full, of course), and like many, I'm a little angry at the damage that Donny Cates caused after Mike Costa's blessing, but come on, it's been years, let's learn seeing this comic as another one that wasn't so good.

DISCLAIMER: info about KW's structure below, could be considered spoilers but I tried to be as vague as possible. It's more like future plans than anything. If you're curious about how KW's going to look like, dive right in!

Ok here's the thing. KW is a retelling of KHR, and just like KHR it's divided in arcs, though these arcs don't necesarily cover the canon arcs in their entirety, that's only true for the second one. Let's see if I can summarize them (as per anything I make, there could be changes in the future, but this is the current plan)

Act 1 - The Opened Way (current) -> from right after Kokuyo Arc to the start of Varia Arc Act 2 - SPOILS OF WAR (placeholder name) -> Varia Arc Act 3 - SIEGE (placeholder name) -> from right after the end of Varia Arc to a number of months later (as part of some of KW's timeline choices, Tsuna's trip to the future and subsequentially the earthquake which kickstarts the Inheritance Arc has been "postponed") Act 4 - BIRTHRIGHT (placeholder name) -> continuing from when Act 3 has left off to some time after, still before the start of Inheritance Arc

FUTURE EPISODE -> don't know if this one will be divided in arcs too (maybe two?), but it takes place in the Future Arc, future timeline

From future episode on, it's still a WIP.

I know for sure I won't cover Inheritance and Curse of the Arcos in total (it's either something that happens in parallel but unrelated to those arcs, or directly something that happens after them);

I know what plotline will need to come to a close in that final section;

I know more or less what SHOULD happen, but I have no idea how to actually "end" KW. Maybe because KHR itself doesn't feel like it brings "closure" to me, it's more of an open ending which really I prefer over a definite one.

So the answer is.... who knows? Not me for sure (～￣▽￣)～

🌦️ Overcast: I literally cannot wait to write more about the Entity for this exact reason, because I think she'll cause those two different reactions all by herself at the same time.

Though for the second part, I really think people are not going to like how Myr's going to get going forward, for a multitude of reasons.

First, she's going to take a path that many other OCs before her have taken and I feel many will roll their eyes and be like "what, really? Another one?" (no it's not the new Varia cloud guardian, please don't hurt me). This doesn't bother me one bit, but I have a feeling some readers will not be thrilled about it.

Second, Myr will not make the "right" choice, or the most logical one.

Third, she's caused her fair share of trouble in the past. As our dear Tristam said once, why do you think she was stripped of her birthrights?

yes honestly wished the it was done by someone else, i enjoyed it at first but it began to decline when the gag keeps repeating, i thought of not reading the novel at first but i am glad i did, because the novel was far deeper and more fleshed out. and reading the novel was more breathtaking and enjoyable

i was surprised that there were more sentimental and emotional moments in the novel and that just made my like for the webtoon to dwindle fast because the webtoon just cut and changed a lot of stuff

(if you do decide to do the railroad arc then yes 😭 because it became my favourite!) speaking of an ask here asked your favourite arc, but is there a least arc you didn't enjoy much?

you're so me. That's what I thought while reading the webnovel. And I was a little shocked at the time because there were so many details that were cut out. (without any explanation) Then it changed to something that was really, really bad.

Maybe I think we would have had a more positive reaction if they had given us an explanation as to why they made certain changes. Because to be honest, I can't think positively since they changed Arrosh's design because it 'wasn't funny' enough.

Well, let's not talking about it (I might end up wanting to bite someone)

And omg!?!? Another Railroad arc enjoyer?!? This made me very happy to discover that there were other people besides me who liked and praised this arc. Again, it really was an awesome arc. I think we could have a cup of tea and talk.

As for my least favorite arc. Hmmmmm... none? Personally, I enjoyed reading every arc because if there was anything I enjoyed the least, it would probably be specific chapters rather than the whole arc.

For me it would be episode 402. Yes, to be honest I'm still very sad that it's like bkmoon ended everything with Suho getting married. There wasn't even a conversation after Javier met Suho. If possible I'd like another 20 episodes of slow burn after he comes back lol

I mean...even the illustrations are of Javier and Suho. And many other reasons others have said before and I agree with them :D But to be honest, it's not like I enjoy the illustration of this chapter that much either. If possible, they should at least give us an actual wedding illustration like Julian and scherazade's or Arcos and Marbella's. It's a bit of a dilemma because the illustration of Javier and Suho laughing together is something I really like and love. But the opportunity didn't quite work out for me.

Okay Xanxus, let's start with 3 here. Hm, well honestly there isn't too much I dislike about him canonically. I used to be kind of pissy about how he treated Squalo but like I also thought it worse than it actually was. Canonically there isn't really anything I dislike with him, I think his character arc though subtle is good and find his personality really intriguing. But I can't really think of anything aspect wise that's lower than the others because the worst case as of now, is i'm just ambivalent about it. (which makes it hard to you know pick out.) Like the only think that I may feel negatively about is the fact he's really the only Varia member that is allowed to stay above being easily crushed in most cases, but like does that count???? It doesn't feel like an aspect of his character so much of an aspect of amano's writing.

Now 5. First song that comes to mind. Okay one sec I know the song but y'all have to know I listen to edgy as hell songs a good 50% of the time so you need to remember this when I pull this song out. okay? okay. https://youtu.be/0nv-b_-VrvQ

^ I do not think this is canon Xanxus song really, rather it's the eventual WCHB Xanxus. Radiance you'll get it because I told you his future but you know. it WAS the first song I thought of regardless.

Since we're here, we'll do 19 here too. OUGH???? I don't know if there's really one I don't like? The way Xanxus interacts with people is inherently very interesting to me. Like though Levi vaguely annoys him and he'll tell him to fuck off(which it's a little funny that Levi is just 'yep okay'), it's Squalo who pushes him over the edge to actually go and hit him. The way he helps mammon and clearly trusts them with similar knowledge levels on plans as Squalo. his small little interactions with Tsuna and how there's a vague respect that gets cultivated, but is very much mentally holding the kid at gunpoint. There's? Not really a canonical relationship with him I don't like. Admittedly I'd be here all day if I went individually with each Varia member, but there isn't one I dislike at all. They're all interesting even in small little interactions you can pick about how they operate with each other. So i'll have to move on to the next ones.

7 for lussuria... uhhh <:) Not much actually. I like his canon counterpart way more than what I usually see in fanon. I don't really see them do much outside of making him friendlier, softer and generally more properly motherly instead of what he is in canon. I think the conflict of him being kind of really bad at those things, while have people who do not care for those things, but still really wanting to provide it is interesting. I also like him being as violent as the rest of the Varia when he's given the chance but being a little more covert outside of those times.

12 for Bel, well I've got a few but personally my favourite was one that I made during the redraws where I noticed he was drawn in a very particular way that ended up implying hypermobility. so I give him that <3 he's got achey bones now.

Uhhhh okay 20 for Mammon. Hm That's a tough question, because that would require exploring what Mammon actually likes in people aside from someone who doesn't bother them too much and wouldn't be afraid of their high prices, and doesn't really judge them for their connection to material goods. Which admittedly cuts a lot of the other Varia out, and Arcos. I wouldn't be able to answer this one very well, but i do think, the fact it doesn't cut Xanxus is out is really funny, so let's say that.

Okay Levi and 21, there's nothing I dislike when writing Levi but it is REALLY fun to explore his more serious side that we see parts of. Admittedly I wanna write more with him than I currently do, and poke around with the Levi strike Squad a bit. (This is dangerous for me to do but we will see what happens.)

Week 7 : Final Trip to Milan

Ciao! This comes a bit later than usual, but this week brought some fun experiences. I kayaked around the Ieranto Bay for my work experience and I went to Milan during the weekend! 

During my work experience, I had to visit the Ieranto Bay. This is a bay near the town of Nerano around 40 minutes away by bus. The hike takes around 40-45 minutes (a little longer on the way back up). Another intern and I were given a tour of the bay and helped sample algae. The hike up was difficult with the heat, but definitely worth it! 

This weekend was my only visit to Northern Italy and I was interested to see how different it is from the south. You can get to Milan by train or by plane, but we decided to go by plane as it takes less time and is around the same price.

Our first night in Milan, we got to see the Duomo at night and walk around the city. The city is a bit more modern than others I have been to in Italy, but there is an older part of the city as well. 

Our second day in Milan, we went to take pictures in front of the Duomo and visit the Galleria. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is one of the oldest malls and has various designer stores such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Gucci. While I definitely did not do any shopping there, it was still gorgeous to see! We also visited the Starbucks Roastery in Milan and grabbed a coffee.

We then went to the Santuario di San Bernardino alle Ossa, just near the duomo, and headed for lunch. We ate at the Terrazza Aperol, which has a beautiful view of the Duomo. Be prepared to pay a lot for your drink if you go here! I had a smoked salmon salad which was pretty refreshing to have after so much pasta! 

To move around the city we used the metro. It is pretty simple to use and you can get a three day pass for just 13 euros. After our lunch, we went to the Sforzesco Castle and walked through Parco Sempione. If you walk all the way through the park you will reach the Arco della Pace. It was intriguing to see how it was very similar to the arc that we had visited in Barcelona. 

Later, we went to the Naviglio Grande, a smaller area near a canal. There were a lot cute stores and boutiques to look out. We took the metro back and got ready for dinner. That night we ate at Osteria Da Fortunata. This restaurant is known for its freshly made pasta and it was delicious! I had the Fettuccine Al Rago, but I would also recommend the gnocchi.   

The next morning, we got tickets to go inside the Duomo and its terrace. The view of Milan from the terrace was so nice. The city looks never ending from the top of the Duomo! We then took the metro to the Milan Central Station and got on a shuttle to the airport from there. @ravensilversea do you remember when it's said the sky flames are the addition of all the other flames? I tried to find it in the manga but i couldn't. And the way i remember it, i thought that was just fanon? 🤔 Was it in the manga or anime? Because you know what the anime can be like lol @hopeswriting I swear the anime's Future Arc exists solely to cause me pain. So, I can't find anything that explicitly says Sky Flames are a conglomeration of all the other flame types (*gets smacked with the That's Actually Fanon Bat once again* lol). However, in Ep 79, Lal says "The waves running through your body is the energy necessary for producing flames from the rings... The size and balance of the waves are determined when you're born. The waves, the rings, and the boxes…. All three must be of the same class or the box will not open. Out of the seven classes, sky is the only one capable of opening all of the boxes. That is one of sky's advantages. Few possess sky waves." And in Ep 76, TYL!Yamamoto explicitly calls these waves Deathperation Flames In this case, I think fanon took that and Gokudera's Sistema CAI which relies on him having 5 flame types to use it completely and extrapolated to "Sky Flames are a composite flame", especially since Sky Flames are noted to be rare and Gokudera is the only character shown to even have a snowball's chance in hell of using Sistema CAI given most everyone else is seen with 1 or 2 flame types at most

okay so, i'm actually a bit disappointed sky flames being the combination of all other flames is just canon, because it really would have answered the question so nicely. (LOL, big mood tbh. it's okay, it happens to the best of us. 😭😂)

about sepira, i can get behind her having been a sky, but it's unlikely she was the (first) sky arcobaleno (tho i did talk about how we could make that work anyway lol). and it's fun how you brought up the idea of her having been the sky arco for multiple generation of arco, because i also thought it's one way it could have gone! and why it could have come to go this way despite them creating the pacifiers specifically so humans could bear them. but that only works if we agree sepira could have been a sky arco at some point, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

on the other hand, it's very safe to assume humans aren't suited to bear the trinisette. like, as much as the trinisette as we have it in canon was created with the express purpose of having humans bear it, it still doesn't change that it's an earthling job to do, and so there's naturally drawbacks/side effects to humans bearing them. but why one of those drawbacks would be specific to the sky pacifier? well actually, i guess it could be because canonically it's the most powerful part of the trinisette, but why in the form of a short lifespan instead of the toddlerization like for everyone else? especially because now you mention it, we also know that canonically sky flames users are rare to begin with! so if three sky arco per arco generation is the average number of sky arco per arco generation ever since they created the pacifiers? it IS horrific and aslo seems totally counterproductive.

but you know, wouldn't kawahira/sepira would have realized that too? and that they didn't do anything to change it seems to reinforce the idea the sky pacifier just has to work like that for one reason or another. and i just really can't figure out what that reason could be.

oh right, also. aria is luce's daughter, yeah! like it's never said outright, but you know. uni is called luce's granddaughter, and we know for a fact she is aria's daughter, so yeah.

Apologies I am late to this conversation but I always assumed the reason Aria and Uni were not made into babies was just because of how they received the pacifiers. That Luce was still a baby, and most likely whoever of the orange pacifiers was cursed through the events of the representative battle or the fated day became babies but their descendants who were cursed outside of it didn’t. Did I just make that all up in my mind for all these years?

well idk about you making it all up in your mind lol, but as much as canon doesn't deny it, it also doesn't imply it's the case. and imo the way i see it, i don't see why it'd be the case?

like i agree the representative war and the fated day are the "official" ways to be cursed, yet they're still two different ways to go about it, right? and canon tells us that either way, the sky arco aren't turned into babies. so when it comes to the third way of inheriting the pacifier like with the sky arco, i don't see why the rules of the sky arco's curse should suddenly change in that case. like, they still end up cursed the exact same way as luce was/the other arco are, aren't they? like, the weight and technicalities of the curse stay the same no matter what, so that's why to me, it makes more sense that it'd still operate under the same rules. that said, your reasoning holds up just as well in canon too, so if you like it better, by all means stick with it!

now why IS she always drawn as a baby lmao. 😭 that sure is the million-dollar question nonny. (outside the anime, that is, which isn't canon, but even in the manga it happens.) like, as much as byakuran explicitly states that the forms of the sky arco don't change in the rainbow arc (and that in exchange they're cursed with a short lifespan), there's still mixed signals in the manga that kind of contradicts that. but well, amano went out of her way to make byakuran say that, so that's what i personally go with and stick with anyway. if for no other reason than because, like. imagine you're cursed just the same as your fellow arco, with you being turned into a baby and having your flames constantly stolen by the pacifier, but then you, specifically, are also cursed with a short lifespan going forwards just because???

also if the short lifespan is in exchange for them not being turned into babies, then it also explains why the arco are turned into babies to begin with. looking at those two facts together, it seems that the weight of the curse is too heavy for their normal bodies to bear it without them meeting an early death, and one way or another, them being turned into babies makes them more suitable to bear it for longer. (which of course both kawahira and the trinisette would gain from it, because it means they can feed off their flames for longer amount of time at a time.)

!! good question please sit down we're gonna be here for a while! i'll try to place them in descending order but be aware this order can and will change depending on what part is making me more emotional at the moment!

spoilers warning!

the incident with the mastodons. great character moment for lloyd and important relationship development even for him and javier! it's one of the first times we get to see javier genuinely concerned for lloyd more than usual for a knight with his master and it is amazing. lloyd makes him blush all the way to the tip of his ears and javier sulkily holds lloyd's sleeve until they're back on solid ground. the banner for my blog is actually from this arc ajskda

namaran's wall and battle with the knight of hell. again. great character moments for everyone, we get to know my girl silurian, lady ella my beloved and there's some delightful angst as javier looks everywhere for lloyd and can't find him.

winter's heart explosion (283-284) extremely important moment for javier, when he gets to hear some of lloyd's unfiltered thoughts and this solidifies his resolve to stay at his side and protect him to the point of lying to the royal family despite the fact he knows he's a fake. also we get the absolute insane moment when javier makes his and lloyd's hearts into one. no further comments.

308-310 these are just cute chapters where we get a lot of arcos&marbella&lloyd content and i just adore it so very much. lloyd finally acknowledges how much he loves and cares for his parents and resolved to protect them no matter what so he can spend the rest of his life and their side.

father's waiting(181-183). arcos waiting for lloyd to get back home after namaran, ready to scold him for putting himself in danger only to immediately forget about it the moment he sees him <3 and then there's the talk that comes before lloyd has to leave for the sultan's kingdom which is!! so cute!! and sweet and sad and just!! very good, will never forgive the webcomic for skipping it.

383-384 this is not a proper arc more like a set of scenes but. lloyd having a nightmare and finally breaking down because of how terrified he is about the restoration of fate,,, and then javier hearing him through the door and being,,, so upset that lloyd won't trust him. that he won't tell him what's worrying him. because javier wants to take on his burden so badly, he wants to protect him so much, he wants to keep lloyd safe from all that would harm him and he wishes lloyd would trust him to do that. i had a breakdown about it lol

the battle with raphael (317-320) so much happening in this arc but!! main things!! javier realizing just how much he really, really cares about lloyd. outright calling him his true master. finally putting all his doubts to rest and completely trusting lloyd even knowing he's not the real lloyd frontera. lloyd getting to see first hand how much the people in the estate care for him. standing between an angel and the jewel of truth because he won't allow raphael to destroy the thing that will let him protect his family. truly what an arc.

the final battle in hell. the only reason this arc isn't first is because we still haven't gotten the translation and i'm waiting until we do to fully enjoy the emotional devastation this arc brings me. but. javier and lloyd sacrificing their live so the other will live,,, their thoughts as always in sync and yet diametrically opposed,, the devastation they feel when they think the other died for them,,, i won't spoil too much because 1) i think everyone should get to experience that arc the way it's meant to and 2) i can't talk about it for too long or i start crying lmaooo

bone dragon battle (215-225)! god this arc. this arc destroys me in the best way possible. like we start with some good banter between javier and lloyd which is already a plus but then the attack begins and it's *chef kiss* amazing. the action is great, and it's still like,,, the least interesting thing going on. this is one of the most important moments for the relationship between lloyd and javier, it's the moment where they both realize that 'hey, i care a lot about this bastard actually, fuck i'm gonna die for him aren't i' which is,,, so good. there's this really great moment when javier gets almost killed by the bone dragon and lloyd is trying so desperately to get to him and when he comes face to face with the dragon he doesn't give a crap, he's outright like 'get the fuck out of my way so i can get to my friend'. and later we cut to javier who is drowning, about to die, and his last thought is about sorry he is he couldn't protect lloyd. how he wanted to remain at his side as they grew old. it's also in this very arc where my favorite quote of the entire novel comes from. "We'll be together forever, just like we've always been. Casually. As natural as breathing". like. c'mon.

this is like. the most basic explanation for why i love these arcs, i promise you i have talked extensively about them in the past i never shut up lol and also these are just the main ones! i have plenty more moments, scenes and entire arcs that i love a lot but not as much as i do with these!

as you can probably see. i like tged a normal amount.

Picard In Review

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR PICARD SEASON ONE 

Okay, so having seen S1 of Picard twice now and with several additional months of reflection, I’m fairly certain of what worked, what didn’t work, and what I want to see in S2. 

Things That I Immediately Knew Were Great 

The characters working closely with Picard! Raffi, Rios, and Elnor are all so good, and each bring something special to the table

Giving Seven such amazing character growth that is both a dramatic departure from Voyager while also still making sense. Big hallelujah chorus moment here.

Addressing the Prime universe aftermath of the Romulan disaster set up in AOS. This has always felt unresolved to me, so I loved to see it. 

Bringing back HUGH and talking about ex-Bs. Such good worldbuilding :’) 

Soji and Dahj being androids without realizing and and slowly (in the case of Soji) finding out the truth was great. The mom AI that puts them to sleep? Stupendous. That scene where Soji is carbon dating all her stuff and panicking? Super good. 

The holograms. Look. I love holograms already, but whoever decided that there should be one for every task on the ship and that they should all be played by  Santiago Cabrera with a different personality and accent is a genius. I want to kiss every single Rios hologram on the cheek. And the fact that each hologram also holds a fragments of his trauma? A H  H ! 

The Qowat Milat: VERY cool. Good for the ST Universe, good for making romulans 3-dimensional, good for ME because I got to see ROMULAN WARRIOR NUNS. 

Riker and Troi. A beautiful, if sad landscape that I could escape into during the plot and action of S1. Many lovely moments with their little family. 

The humor! People really fixate on the gloominess of Picard, but it has so many funny moments. 

The hugs: IDK why there were SO MANY HUGS in Picard but I was so greatful for every single one. 

Things I knew immediately that I hated

Narek and Narissa. Annoying, gross, and the writing made me feel like I was supposed to sympathize with them or something? No. Just gross and annoying. 

The Costumes. With a few notable exceptions, everyone just had on the most boring basic-ass clothes imaginable. It’s the FUTURE Babey. Let me see a sequin.  Did they just blow their costume budget on “Stardust City Rag” or something? 

Killing off Dahj. :/ I get why they did it, but I would have liked to see some fun twin sister android moments on screen and we were robbed of that. 

Killing of Hugh. Why? Just why? Why bring back one of the most beloved guest stars, have Jonothan del Arco kick ass all over again, and then just let him die? We live in a post Joss Whedon and GOT universe. Society has progressed past the need to kill off a fan favorite for shock value. 

Things I grew to enjoy:

The “old man coming to terms with his trials and triumphs and fighting against defeatism” was good. Sir Patrick Stewart, I love you. 

Having a small ship working outside of starfleet is a cool change and a good set-up.

The locations, Freecloud in particular.

Things I grew to dislike:

Jurati. This is the fault of the writers, not Alison Pill, who’s super talented. Such a shame. They really just gave her a plot arc that makes me not want to look at her face anymore, yikes. 

Kind of related to the last one, but the relationship between Rios and Jurati? Not feeling it. 

The entire AI/Zhat Vash plot in general. (whoops). Like, it was so interesting to start with, but by the last two episodes I wasn’t really emotionally invested anymore.  

I would have thought that a planet of soong androids would have been cooler? 

What I want in Season 2

The end of Season 1 was a great jumping off place. We have a great little ensemble of rebels on a tiny little ship and they could go and do anything! So I hope to god they go and do things that are fun and interesting to watch! 

No more Narek <3 

Gently write out Jurati, or make her a guest instead of a regular. I feel bad for saying it, but I honestly just don’t want her taking away screentime from characters I actually like and am invested in. 

Don’t just make Seven/Raffi happen, make it happen in a way that feels real and interesting. 

Just more character development for our core group. Like I said, they’re my favorite part, so I don’t want to have to beg for scraps all season. Just give us a Raffi episode. Give us a Rios episode. Give us an Elnor episode. 

I want to know more about the holograms. Both the specific ones in the ship as well as hologram rights in the 25th century. Yes, this is a niche trekkie interest of mine, don’t @ me.

before reading the notes, i thought you were talking about reborn the character and not the manga as a whole lol, so let me answer with that in mind first.

i'm surprising myself here, but i just really love that exchange reborn and mukuro have during the kokuyo arc that goes something like this:

reborn: you went through the six paths of reincarnation? that makes you a monster

mukuro: who are you to call other people monsters when you're an arcobaleno?

i actually wrote a post about it because it really struck me when i reread it, and idk, just. i really love the heavy implications of it and what it says on both their characters so early in the manga.

i also really love how throughout the tsuna (and enma) vs daemon fight, reborn is so obviously worried and angry he can do nothing to help tsuna and can just stand there watching daemon hurt him. like, it's the most expressive we see him in the manga, and like. he cares about tsuna. he CARES!!!! 😭💖 i know you get it. <3

now if we're talking about the manga as a whole, for me it's hands down uni sacrificing herself to revive the arco and all she says during that scene. it's a heartbreaking and tragic scene during which the core of uni's character shines so brightly, and i love it so, so much and i will never get over it.

a close second is the scene in the anime where tsuna saves uni from torikabuto (you know when they're hiding in kawahira's ramen shop and torikabuto attempts to kidnap uni?), and either gamma or uni goes something like "always frowning and clenching his fists like a prayer, that is vongola decimo".

I JUST FIND THAT LINE AND SCENE SO SO COOL!!! and the anime really did it justice and i just love it!

edit: i forgot but chapter 219 my absolute BELOVED!!! it's the chapter where irie reveals the truth to tsuna & co about just what is actually going on in the future arc after the melone base raid arc, and just. *chef's kiss*. love how heavy and dark and full of implications every line said in this chapter is, and this is my actual favorite scene from the manga, tho uni's scene still comes very close after it

i was SO happy to see the emh again. that man is baby and i’d do anything for him. but anyway i was watching the episode with captions and i caught this:

emil??? EMIL?????? is that his fucking NAME??? why are we giving him a name NOW? he’s been in two episodes already and y’all didn’t give him a fucking name!! we already named him diego, for fuck’s sake!!!

soooo idk what to do with this. i’m unfortunately the kind of person who likes to take the little bits of canon that we’re actually given and use them but i’m conflicted over this one. what do y’all think because i don’t wanna make this decision by myself.

anyway. the rest of my thoughts are below.

- okay. let’s start with the obvious. it wasn’t even 8am when i got to hugh’s death and my roommate was still asleep and here i am hunched over my computer sobbing uncontrollably. so eventually i had to just get up and go sit on the floor of the living room where i cried for pretty much 10 minutes straight. i really couldn’t let go of it for the rest of the episode tho so i think it’s a good thing that we saw will and deanna before it happened. i wouldn’t have been able to appreciate them at all and i was SO excited it was all i could talk about all week. i need more time to process this i think. mostly i’m angry that it was so senseless. the shock value did exactly what they wanted it to but im still furious. or i will be once i move past the initial grieving. i just feel.... really really empty inside. 

- his earlier moments with elnor were good. seeing him hold his ground was incredible and him mourning the xb was devastating and i didn’t even know what was coming. also i have to mention what he said right before he died. i dont even remember the exact words, something about having foolish hope again and thanking elnor for it and ok im crying again so im gonna stop talking about him lol  

- seeing will and deanna was great though! i love them and their daughter. i was glad at how much jean-luc got called the fuck out. especially deanna just saying that he’s not acting how he used to and telling him to basically shape up and be the captain. omg when soji pushed jean-luc and he fell into will and then will went absolutely feral??? iconic. gay legends only. i do love them so much and im mad that everything with hugh had to spoil it.

- i despise narissa with everything in me. i already hated her but none of it was personal until this episode. and narek, even tho this didnt directly involve him, is a bastard and nothing that he does ever again no matter any redemption they try to give him, will make me forgive him or like him or feel for him. 

- im glad we got to see what commodore oh did to agnes. i was expecting more direct manipulation/control rather than just convincing her that this was the right thing to do. it did make me super pissed off at her for just being sad and eating cake. but holy fuck i didn’t expect her to try and kill herself??? im glad the emh got to her before she died but now she’s in a coma and it seems like next episode she’ll be up and talking so thats a relief but there’s a little part of me that’s angry she got to live and hugh died. i know they’re not connected in any way but yeah.

UPDATE: - so it’s been about 10 hours now and i’m still not okay, but since then, they released that video of del arco talking about hugh’s arc and his death and i’m still incredibly unhappy BUT i was relieved to know that he felt good about the way his story ended. it makes it a little easier to accept. but it did make me start crying like a baby again.

"he fights for his family" - because this is often taken as an argument that Darrow does the right thing. whether Orion is the main culprit or not, Darrow has been in charge of the whole operation, so he's also to blame. and to say, "but Atalantia does that to," is no excuse. Ermm... I use the 'he fights for his family' as proof for those who say he doesn't do that and that he is a child of war and other bullshit. Not to excuse Darrow's actions.

I wasn't excusing Darrow, first of all, I was saying it's not fair to say that he is like Atlas or Atalantia. Orion made the call herself and she killed her own as well as civilians and enemies.

I didn't say 'Atalantia does it too', I said that she and Atlas do it deliberately, intentionally. They order mass murder, they do mass murder. Darrow explicitly said not to drown the fucking planet. He wanted no casualties and Orion didn't listen. He stopped her as soon as he realised that.

The damage was done, but making Darrow seem like a monster with no regard for human lives, is wrong.

And I say go off, because yes, I asked for opinions and you can go off on what you have to say. As in keep doing what you're doing.

I'm not here to change your mind or argue with you. But to put Darrow in the same pot with Atlas or Atalantia is wrong and that's that.

Because the situations are not the same. And Darrow does take responsability for Orion's actions. But that doesn't mean he is 100% to blame or even comparable with his enemies.

Things aren't as black and white as you make them seem. It's true that when this happens, the leader takes the blame and he truly bears that. But I just don't think he is the monster Lysander makes him be...he is no Atlas au Raa or Atalantia au Grimmus. Not only does he take responsability, but he also blames himself. At no point does he tell anyone or even himself that only Orion is to blame for everything. He blames himself for trusting her.

And it's not fair that you chose to ignore the fact that Darrow didn't want casualties and deliberately tried to have none. From his first battle on Mercury, when he sacrificed his army in an Iron Rain to take Tyche without casualties, to giving the population radiation meds, to going to defend Heliopolis and letting the Arcos Knights save the civilians of Tyche, instead of going for Atalantia, although he could have at a very high price.

And the most important distiction that cements that is chapter 17 of Dark Age: Darrow - Heliopolis. After they try to rape him. That makes all the difference: he is not a monster who wants to sacrifice civilians, he is not his enemies. Just because he didn't sit on his arse crying for the victims, doean't mean that the bloodshed doesn't get to him, on the contrary, he shuts himself off, because otherwise he is too useless to function. He is among the most empathetic and merciful people in the series. He feels even for his enemies. He forgave Roque, for hell's sake. And he treated Atlas with decency, despite everything...

The entire Storm Gods plot was designed to dismantle Reaper as the hero and build Lysander as such - in the eyes of the people in universe. The reader has more insights and the author used those to to show the nuances of grey. Because in war, no one can truly be a hero.

But, if these things aren't important or significant enough for you, that's ok. As I said, I'm not here to change opinions but I would like mine to be respected as well. I'm not bashing or hating. I am not excusing some flat white boy™️ character with no substance 'because he did nothing wrong uwu'. I am simply saying that the arc was more complex than the usual black and white approach to interpretation.

That doesn't make Darrow in right or not to blame at all, but it doesn't make him a heartless monster like his enemies. That's what I'm trying to say.

Before someone comes at my throat for this, though, this is fiction. I am not endorsing Storm Gods wiping out entire planets, humans included. I don't think the usual standards for real life can be applied completely to the Red Rising series. Or any book for that matter...

Taking them into orbit was wrong, period. But there is more to it than just 'oh, look, another tyrant, Reaper is a tyrant, a monter' etc.
