saiteru (platonic or romantic) is so good bc saiki likes her for her. like. her true self. honestly this could be said about all saiki ships but especially teruhashi bc shes constantly pretending. also saiki genuinely doesn’t like her at first. idk im a little nuts about them ok i just think if anyone deserves Teruhashi its the guy who has been forced to see her at some Very low lows, whos safety is incompatible to her existence, who is physically incapable of seeing her external beauty, and stuck by her anyways.

ur girl (gender neutral) wrote 18 fics this year, and with how busy my 2024 was, i’m satisfied with that amount! i definitely think i’ve improved as a writer in general this year, and that has carried over into my fic writing. soo - now it’s time to yap about them!

definitely still just different. it’s extremely stupid and self indulgent, but i feel like i’m doing ten year old me a solid by writing the season 2 that we never got. i’m glad i have effectively killed the part of me that cringes and have just decided to not gaf.

The two young men were quiet once again, the sound of the evening breeze echoing in their ears, before both spoke once more.

“Your magic, if I’m being completely honest, is absolutely incredible -“

“I daresay, I’ve heard that no one’s as handy as a sword as you and if the rumors are true I’d love to see you in action -“

The two broke off, both exhaling small laughs at their awkwardness.

“Well, I do pride myself in my swordsmanship!” The loud, crazy booming factor of the prince’s voice was beginning to return. Rui hoped that meant he was growing more comfortable with him. “You watching me would certainly be splendid for all parties involved! But, ah, I don’t quite know how we should go about that…”

“…you think my magic is incredible?” Rui whispered.

Tsukasa didn’t say anything for a moment, just returned to fidgeting with his hands. Eventually, he sighed.

“Well, I…yes. Ever since I was…really young, I’ve dreamed about…doing incredible feats like what you’re rumored to be able to accomplish. B-But I…had to hide. So…I think sorcerers are actually…kind of fascinating.”

“Then why are you trying to kill us.”

Rui phrased it as a statement, and not a question. Tsukasa flinched.

“I-I…”

Tsukasa didn’t say anything for a moment.

“Because it’s my purpose. It’s what I’ve been told to do.”

“Even though you are one of us?” Rui replied, voice not cold but not warm either.

“…I’m not like this because I want to be.”

“I see.” Rui nodded. “Not an excuse, but an unfortunately understandable backstory. I cannot wait to see where your character arc goes from here, Your Highness.”

“I - hey! Somebody reads too much.” Tsukasa huffed, and Rui laughed. He couldn’t help but feel…a little fond towards the prince. Perhaps, in another timeline, in a different situation…they could be friends.

“Magic,” Rui said slowly. “Gets stronger the more you believe in the fact that you can do it.”

“No, I don’t.” And suddenly, her entire demeanor changed. “I don’t know - I don’t know if Lee even likes girls, if she even likes anyone at all - she’s not interested in dating or boys and she’s said that a million times and I feel like I need to respect that but I…I like her so much. that i’m slowly learning to be less hard on myself, and to not immediately critique every single word i write. that even when u think ur writing something obscure and niche - someone out there will care. there will always be someone who matches ur freak.

this fic genuinely perfectly reflects almost everything i’ve said in this post regarding their relationship dynamic to one another and id totally recommend it. The pacing is really nice too and both of them are headcannoned as demi if that’s up you’re alley! It still pays close attention to kusuo’s hesistant feelings about opening up and feelings in general, and how he doesn’t understand the concept of love which is always nice to read about. It’s also just a good power reveal fic and while there’s definitely a good amount out there i really liked how this one was written!

anyways if u like vulnerable saiki and don’t mind a little saiteru i’d give it a read, i’ll stop ranting now lmfao.

(should be mentioned that the author just published it so it’s not completed but the first chapter was rlly good so it’s worth it lol)

one of the reasons i really like the concept of saiteru (bc it can get some bad rap) is simply bc i think they’d be able to bring out the best in each other

i feel like both of them would be able to wholeheartedly be themselves because and would fully know there would be no judgement from either side and they could trust each other

the fact that saiki has known teruhashi’s true self hidden beneath the perfect persona and still stuck with her the whole time is very telling and would be comforting to teruhashi bc she would know he wasn’t just there “for her looks” and because he loves and knows her true self and loves her for her.

likewise teruhashi was one of the first people to really see saiki for who he was breaking away from any of those fantasy saiki’s, the most notable mention being in the mixer karaoke episode where she comments on how saiki would just sit there in silence with a blank look on his face. No extravagants, no saiki falling for her, just him.

in addition to that there’s the scene where saiki watches her push herself past her limits trying to impress all the boys to the point where she faints constantly wishing she’d just stop and when she doesn’t, saiki puts himself in the center of attention to catch her. Then alternatively, teruhashi tells the boys she forgot her place in compliments, smth she’d originally never do, and ran out to go thank saiki, thus choosing saiki over her image which is super important to her.

and for saiki, knowing that teruhashi has had to hide parts of her personality for the sake of the perfection mask, it would be easier for saiki to shed his mask himself. And we’ve already seen through flashback scenes and just saiki’s own judgement that her and the rest of his friends would be completely accepting of him.

idk i just love them, i like to think they’d both be comforted knowing the other likes them for they’re true selves. plus the dynamic new tween the two is so funny. The way they’re both on equal playing field when it comes to little schemes btwn the both of them, and whether saiki will win or teruhashi is always up in the air. But working together they can pretty much pull off anything.

i just like them. sorry this was long i didn’t mean to go into a full length character relationship analysis lmfao. i know ppl are going to disagree w me on this and that’s totally fine and valid i just wanted to put my thoughts out there a bit lol
