thinking about what a kensa squiffer would've been like...
#splatoon#splatoon 3#toni kensa#splatoon oc#minatoast#lizzy does art#hi everyone. i can already hear the comparisons to what game this looks like. LMAO. u can tag it as that if u want.#wanted to do limited color kind of thing. i think i did a little bit of cheating though (tone scrapers + some slight airbrushing)#if it's not already apparent... toni kensa is my favorite brand in splatoon LMAO im just!! obsessed with them#and i think it explains a lot about the visual aesthetics that im drawn to#it was fun to draw like this!!! i think i want to try like actual greyscale and not just b/w + accent only at some point#also when will they give squiffer a second kit!! i would humbly like an inkjet or trizooka as it's special#i think that it'd be really nice for squiffer to be able to poke longer range weapons and whatnot#i like the current kit it's a classic but i'd really like to have better entry tools what am i supposed 2 do with point sensor#ANYWAY!! im having fun with art :) im going to try and experiment with color and shapes!! hpoefully. u all stay swag!

please please please I'm clinging on to you by the toes how do you draw your perspectives so deliciously (ty for posting kunizai art too sm btw you're doing our wretched Lord asagiri sensei's work)
U guys flatter me sm but im afraid i do not know how i draw either .. its funny enough to ME that people are saying im good at perspective because i litterally have never been good at it before 😭 ill try to explain as best i can though from my own experience !
My first advice is probably to not worry about anatomy too much; im 100% sure my anatomy is hella off in all my drawings. But in perspective art, u can still somehow make it work with foreshortening!
Especially for parts like arms, i usually just simplify it in 3 parts, the shoulder area, the forearm and the hand - foreshortening can be helped a lot by the folds of the clothes, so you can kind of still create a border to differentiate the parts of the body. And feel free to simplify the anatomy etc. And also embrace more "cartoonish" shapes- i draw a lot of weirdly curved legs but it works for a more dynamic-looking piece (i think)
Next would be to think of the art piece in terms of shapes. And also to not be afraid of using curved lines instead of straight ones
Using curved lines for areas that are too close or too far seem to work best for me in creating a sort of fish-eye lense that makes the background look warped, but dynamic!
Next, my favorite shape in terms of composition would be triangles. Especially for perspective top-down poses, it really gives you a general shape that the body could take based on that view
For compositions, i like it because i think it works well for balance, it has a very strong shape and works for visualizing foreground, middle ground, and background (the largest part (base) is closest to the viewer, the farther it goes the smaller the object gets). It prpbably helps if you have those point perspective ruler stuff that comes with some art apps. Also i use ibis and i sometimes use the transform tool to stretch or reshape a part until it flows better in the composition.
In terms of color, i usually work darker to lighter, from foreground to background. Darker objects nearer to the front and lighter objects at the back work a lot better for depth since the ones closer are more in focus and detailed while the lighter the object gets the more it seems to "fade" away.
Anyways i am certainly no professional and to be honest, most of this is me getting an idea or picture in my head that i go through trial and error to execute so i still advise you all to search up guides or references (i look for a lot of ideas on pinterest) and have fun ! If you still have questions, i will do my best to reply
#this is. long. sorry#im really no expert guys im flattered but i assure u i have NO idea what im doing😭#ask cocoa#also tysm im glad i can still serve the kunizai community LOL#i have speedpaints saved.. theyre very long but if people are interested maybe i can share it?

Can I ask how you pick your colors? I'm very fascinated by it and how well it works with your style
sure i will try my best 2 explain !!! >_<
typically i start drawing my main subjects on a grey colored background. this makes it so my color range is alot larger than if i sketched and colored on a white/lighter background because the colors that surround your piece will affect how they are perceived. i will attach an example below:
as you can see the drawing on the left (which is a wip i havent posted this drawing yet lulz) heavys skintone changes to match the context of the colors in the background which when you compare that bg to the bg on the right it is much darker in comparison. i also simply wanted to play around with colors coz i try not to restrict myself in any capacity. coloring is the most fun part of drawing to me and part of that fun comes from imposing zero limitations on myself which is why alot of my art has the most stupid ass color combinations u will eva see #live #laf #lov
this is what my drawings typically look like once i finish the actual main subject of the piece as you can see scout n pyro are in a grey void gidbles them. i typically do backgrounds last (which is something i should prbably change up sometime soon) because i tend to create them around the main drawing and it makes it easier for me to make everything more cohesive in the end because i can make the background however i want to fit the main drawing. i do not recommend doing this 24/7 becoz then u will struggle with environmental backgrounds/perspective shit and other stuff which is something i want to get better at but struggle with alot hashtag supaaa mega sad hashtag noob lyfeee
as for coloring itself and choosing colors its really just a combination of experimentation (and by that i mean i go through so much of the color wheel before i decide on something) and intuition. i already have an idea of what looks good together well in mind because well ive spent quite alot of time fine tuning ermmm idk what 2 call it i guess my color sense ??? hallppp but anyways i really recommend not just using bright/neon colors exclusively! the best way to make colors pop is to couple them with more muted ones so the contrast is better evident btwn the two. OH ANDD i tend to try not to use straight up black and white/grey to portray those colors. for example if a character has ermm lets say a white shirt i wont use white or grey colors to depict it but rather maybe a light cyan orrr yellowy green :p
i also overuse textured brushes and patterns in my art alortttt (see abovee) HALP so maybe try that??? i use clip studio paint and there are so many rly awesome textured brushes that i overuse coz they r SUPAAAA epik. IDK im just rambling but your biggest take away from this should be to GO EXPERIMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! and have fun anddddd mix "ugly" colors 2gether coz u just can never know what will and wont work unless u try :33
ALSO I ALMOST FORGOT play around with this feature in csp if u have it coz its another way i create textures (my heavy mii shown as an example) and here is a link to a tumblr post where i link all of the brushes i use in csp 0 .o I HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEWHAT!!!!!!!!! SOZZZ I AM NOT THE BEST AT EXPLANING >_<

Speaking of Naliphorn
HERE SHE IS!! My silly little alien creature!! PIM PIM PIM PIM NATION RISE RAAAAAAAAAA!!!
ANYWAYS! Here's some information about my hyperfixation!
Her full name is Naliphorn Xythar but most people call her Nali
They're 33 and their pronouns are she/they
She works with at the Smiling Friend and she's been living with Pim!
Some fun facts about Nali though! They typically glamours away their scars, not all of them since its exhausting for them to keep that up, hence why they usually wear lots of layers that hide their body, since then they can just let go for he most part. They purr!! In the art I've done I haven't drawn them, but she's got toe beans LMAO! When it's hot out, they get white freckles(you can see it on her swimwear :3) Their antenna and tail hearts change color depending on her mood/status(dark red for hurt, deep, dull blue for sad, there's more, I'm still working on a little chart for it!)
They came to Earth by accident, trying to escape their old home planet, wanting to get away from it all. She crash landed and came across the yellow, smiling building when bystanders had overwhelmed her. I have a comic and other comic ideas so I'm not gonna go super into depth into her story in this post!! Anyways, because she didn't have any money, Pim was nice enough to offer a place for her to stay with him! The second picture is a height difference between her and Pim, until SF has an official height I headcanon him as 4'0, and Nali is 5'0 :3 also so insane cause i got into smiling friends after season 2 episode 5 was released and knew nothing about the next episode and then I made Nali and she's an alien simply cause I LOVE aliens AND THEN IT WAS ABOUT ALIENS FBGHJFGKDJHVHJDG SO INSANE ABOUT THAT EXPERIENCE!!
here's screenshots of the experience cause im still screaming and running around in circles cause of it!
also obvs I KNOW it was just a coincidence but I'm so insane and not normal about Pim and Naliphorn

hi! i love your art SO MUCH and i check your blog like the morning newspaper to see if you’ve uploaded anything new (you always have and I LOVE IT!!! thank u for keeping us fed) anyway i was just wondering if you had any advice for actively creating so much? i used to draw all of the time but i find it so hard lately to make even one tiny thing, especially something that i like…..but when i look at your work and how much you create i am always so inspired! i hope this makes sense eeeek anyway have an amazing day and thank you for sharing your incredible work with us!!!!
thank youuuu thank you so much!!! ;___;
i totally get that, and it used to be my number one problem, creating at all. i remember being in art school surrounded by people who were always drawing, and me, i just couldn't, and i couldn't explain what made drawing so difficult for me
and i think what blocked me is that i was paralyzed by indecision - too afraid to waste my time making "bad art" to do anything, or the wrong type of art, art that' won't look good in my portfolio, art that's too silly and specific to me. so in the end i made nothing
what's really been helping me lately is that i have dramatically lowered my standards for myself. i sketch every idea i have, even if it's just putting down three lines, even if it's self-indulgent and silly. anything that excites me and makes me want to draw, i follow that excitement as far as it will take me. maybe that's a fully completely illustration, maybe just a sketch, or maybe somewhere in between
if the goal is to have fun and not making a masterpiece, i feel less pressure and i end up drawing more. and drawing more leads to drawing better! if you make 10 sketches and really pressure yourself to make them great, that's torture. if you draw 1000 sketches, some of them will turn out amazing
when i have ideas i sketch, and when im low on ideas, i have all these already made sketches to revisit, and as i draw i find new ideas! this avoids me having to face a blank canvas and desperately scratch around my brain for ideas. creativity does not like being scrutinized like a bug, it vanishes under pressure in my experience
i find that creativity can be a negative or a virtuous circle. not drawing leads to less ideas and more pressure to deliver something good which will keep someone not drawing. but if you find something that gets you excited enough to draw again and keep going, then you will get more ideas along the way. follow them! draw the same character 1000 times in a row. i tend to focus on mostly one of my characters at a time - i draw her, i think about her, so i want to draw her more, and so on. that's fine
if there's any part of drawing that you like more than others, maybe try leaning on that more, and remember you don't need to do anything you don't want to do. if doing lineart sucks, don't do that. if coloring makes you want to stop drawing, use black and white
but also, where i've also been very lucky is having people like you around! :-) having people respond and connect to my art with such enthusiasm and such kindness, it's incredible
genuinely i owe more to people online who like my art than anyone does to me for making it. i would probably still make art if i had no one to show it too (which is what i did in middle school lol), but it's very lonely. it's harder to create something if it feels like no one will care. and i've been there, i spent years on deviantart having zero followers and attention. so i think every artist needs supportive friends they can show their art to for encouragement
some people feel shame that they don't do art just for its sake, that they want followers and likes and all, so i just want to say it's normal to want that :-) like i do make my art for an audience, if it was just for myself, i'd look at it in my head
i hope any of that helps!! in conclusion, i think any kind of art is worth making. and it should be fun. i also hope this makes any sense - i have to go to work soon but i wanted to reply before that. and thank you again for your kind words!!!!! <33333333

NEW COLOR PALLET TRIO INFODUMP AAUGH‼️‼️(art by nero mwamwa)
OKAY im genuinely gonna take huge insp off the movie because it just matches so well and it bridges missing concepts i needed for their lore AUGH OKAY so
• i'm reclaiming the idea that red gave jaide a torchic and named it chuy (it was named kaia but its CHUY NOW!!!) while i unfortunately cannot answer how did red acquire a torchic it's totally meant for her (maybe through trading with a hoenn local that happened to be in kanto at the time)
• before jaide left for johto, red and blue invited her to the safari zone in fuchsia city because they miss her and they want her to experience what it's like to catch pkmn (despite the pikachu incident that occured before) this allowed jaide to discover her talent - she's really good at catching pkmn, even better than both boys combined.
• so when she was prepared to leave kanto, she would at least have this newfound passion to try to capture, and her target is the johtonian pkmn. she's thankful they helped her find something special about herself. her parting words was hoping that she'd meet them and they'd become fully fledged trainers they aim to be
• skipping past the gen 3 to gen 6 events, we land on the gen 7 timeline, they're all adults now. blue is viridian city's gym leader,
jaide is professor oak and elm's designated professional catcher,
and red is the mysterious living legend and champion who later opened up to the public again thanks to blue.
• meanwhile - thanks to kukui, alola has been creating their own championship league which meant that it's still new. i like to think that the battle tree was also created at the same time and he needed "bosses" to facilitate the battle tree.
• kukui invites red and blue to become the battle tree bosses, to which red and blue agrees with. it's gonna have some sort of grand opening and this brings attention to people from the other regions to want to visit alola. i like to think bringing blue and red was a celebrity bait in some way, especially for red who's popular despite not showing his face around.
• at that same time, professor oak has a new job for jaide which was to capture all alolan regional forms of certain pkmn - she was given the funds to help her go travel to alola. blue would know about this and he tells her to come visit the battle tree because he and red will be there as well. (AHEM AHEM LIKE HOW MANOLO IS GONNA HAVE HIS FIRST BULLFIGHT AND IT COINCIDES WITH THE DAY MARIA RETURNS FROM SPAIN AND AND AND--
• ahem anyways, blue is very excited about this! because red and jaide havent exactly met up with each other properly (they were only able to say hi to each other through blue's contacts since blue and jaide consistently talking to each other throughout the years) (just imagine a funny zoom call where red and blue are in the same room and jaide is on the other side)
• red's ... quite nervous and excited about this! he's still getting used to the public attention and usually loses his mojo when he's being watched, and it's double the pressure when she's around. he can only pray he'll do fine at the battle tree if she's gonna watch him.
• a fun cameo happens with elio/selene where they solo red in the battle tree and blue watches them - jaide eventually appears as well to watch and they're both cheering for red 🫶
• red almost lost that round because jaide showed up and he kept taking chances to look at her
• after the grand opening, they were officially reunited and it felt so good to meet each other again. well, blue with jaide and red felt like nothing since he was simultaneously in contact with them. he's like the messenger between the apples 😔😔
• i like to think red really has never fallen off of liking jaide since he was a kid but it only got stronger when they meet again and it's like an old book had been dusted clean and ready to be opened
• and appleshipping pre romance begins shortly after wehehehhe
#IM SOOO PROUD#i GOT THIS SHIT FIGURED OUT FINALLY!!!!!!#now time for the actual romance plot (static sounds) shit idk how to write that AAAUHHH#~ rambling#~ loreposting#color pallet trio#💚 appleshipping

aaand that's a wrap! finally found a new template that isn't deviantart green lmao
didn't finish as much as i had hoped this year but that's ok. im still pretty happy with the stuff i did finish!
and like last year i have a ramble so thats going under the cut
im trying to forgive myself for not being able to see art projects through as often anymore. there's a lot more competing for my attention now and my art process has been taking longer and longer. i had a lot of times this past year where i sat down and drew something and was happy with what i sketched, but then never made time to color it, or the desire to keep going with it fizzled out the second i put the pencil down.
i dont know what the answer is. i've been struggling with burnout and distraction a lot this year (ffxiv still has a pretty iron grip on my attention), but at the same time i've been getting a lot more out of writing than visual arts the last little while. so idk
my hope for the new year is to keep working on replacing "perfect" with "done". a few years ago i used to experiment and cut corners all the time just to get art out the door and i think i want to bring some of that energy back. i wanna try new things again. i want to find new ways to color that don't take 9 hours over 3 days but are still fun and engaging. i want to change the definition of "done" for my brain.
i ended up rambling for longer than i meant to lmao... anyway, if you read all that, thank you. and i hope you'll stick with me into the new year - no matter what pace I end up drawing at.

asks about your 1 oc
HI HI HELLO uh . i wasnt actually expecting sm1 to ask about my oc hahah anyway yyeeesss let me rant :))))c (there is lots of ramblings under the cut so)
their name is miharu amachi (if i accidentally say amagi its because its a typo they are not related to hiiro or rinne) pronouns they/them and he/him is ok for them too ^_^ they're like. i think 18 or 19 and they are an idol (yes they are an enstars oc) in the unit crescendo! which is an rp group im in with some friends :D ive drawn one of the other characters before (kiyama) and ive drawn miharu a couple of times too ^_^ (here and here) the colors are so inconsistent i need to make a character design. thingy soon < cannot because i am so busy all the time now
when you first meet them they come across as really calm and cool, and a little like an older sibling. they make sure that you're safe and as long as you are you can do whatever..! mostly. they are a very caring person and they want to make sure that everyone will be alright :D
SOME THINGS ABOUT MIHARU!! i sometimes will call them mimi because nicknames :) theyre mostly associated with green and they love plants. i dont mean like plants. i mean they LOVE plants. you go into their room you will see like five succulents on their desk and a bunch of hanging pots too. they love love plants.
SUPER IMPORTANT!!!! before being an idol, they are an actor! they've acted in plays and such since they were a child and only started doing films when they were a teen (id say like. 15? so they have like 4 years of acting experience) and with this theyve learned how to "act normal" around people so. angst potential anyone? :)
they also have a really nice singing voice! id say their voice is soft and smooth? yeah thats it. they mostly do harmonies in their discography also their dancing isnt All There but they are working on it !! they trip sometimes but its ok they know how to fall because acting 👍
sicne this is an enstars oc i have to say where they went to school! they went to yumenosaki for two years and then had an Unexplained gap year before they went back to the "new ES" < this is a premise/setting thing for the rp group its a whole thing basically the idol course is co-ed now and theres a new dorm building that crescendo is in and theres a whole nother event thats kinda like restructuring its a whole bunch i am Not explaining it well but yeah ^_^ its super fun weve had one session already and i cant wait for more
OOH OOH interactions with others... id say theyre more of a "go with the flow" type person? while in yumenosaki they were always like a backup / backstage dancer of sorts. their whole vibe is. backstage dancers and harmonies (both things they do) aren't needed to make good art, but they're nice to have! miharu isn't always needed but theyre nice to have :) i think a really important part of their character is trying to heal from what theyve experienced in the past (which is subject to change) and learning to accept that yes, you are an important part of this unit and we would miss you if you were gone!
uhm i cant think of what else to say. hope u liked my ramblings about my 1 oc
#trying to speedrun writing this ask bc i have soo much hw. aurgh :(#nep answers#inbox: anon#TY FOR THE ASK I LOVE MIHARU SO SO SO MUCH!!!!!!!!#i think i put too many thoughts in parentheses whoops. i have so many thoughts all the time ever#oc: miharu amachi#oh shit this took way too long fuck fukc fuck i need to work now fuucukkk

"Hmmm...and I'll be taking some of that--"
"Oi, leave my Takoyaki alone!! Eat your own food!"
///
Hiiiiiii~ I was informed like two days ago my study tour project needed an "extension activity" for full credit--which could apparently be, "anything as long as it relates to the project in a meaningful way" so.....given my project was about food experiences as a whole while in Japan, I took my chance to draw Masterforce-related art hehehe!!! 🥰 Can't wait to see the looks on my friends faces when I show my 'activity' lmfao 💀 cause they all made models and collages while Im out here drawing my faves 😔✨ at least it was quite fun to draw~
So basically, the Godmasters are enjoying a dinner in a restaurant (that resembles strongly one I actually remember going to~ 😌✨)....Ginrai's about to take a selfie of him and Lightfoot, then notices Roadking fixing to steal the plate of Takoyaki. Meanwhile, Ranger is just having a Very Good Time Right Now 🩷
....I chose to draw the Godmasters bc I realized....I literally never draw for them 😳 so....here's my attempt 👍 I'd like to note it's not my best attempt because I finished it at 4:30 am today...yea....currently typing this out on my school bus with my 40 minutes of sleep ahahaha 🥲 but anyways, it's not terrible imo!
At the very least, the colors are nice 😳👉👈
Anyway...I've also actually wanted to try my hand at a solo piece with these four! And I'm glad I did~ Like there's no way they didn't just....vibe and hang out together at some point like this 🥺 cause they totally did....so....idk I'm rambling....yea~ enjoy!!!!! ^w^

1: is that a fancy threat? or a weird prophecy?
2: neither
2: its a choice
fun fact! soleil’s main design hadn’t received an actual redesign since she was first created in 2021! while i changed super minor details along the way (bc i refuse to look at my own ocs references) he stayed fundamentally the same up until now! This still has many details from their og design but I simply gave it more character, I think! I’m frankly really happy with it ^_^
More yapping below
Sorry Its One Big Wall Of Text
One issue I had with Soleil’s initial design was that it was supposed to look a little weird. Like something your avg person wouldn’t wear 24/7. I couldn’t have her change outfits bc by the lore another weird thing he does is simply never change clothes. Their old design SURE was something your avg person wouldn’t wear everyday it was still lacking that ,, weirdness factor I think? It was really clean. I wanted her to look both organic and alive yet not exactly in a way that makes sense? Something graceful yet also just. flesh. Sol is cool bc. I associate her heavily with a lot of meat and flesh but she isn’t even flesh and bone herself. N that plays into the weirdness of it all too? I think. Its 1 am right now sorry if this is very badly worded LMAO Sol also acts as a good parallel to AZIMUTH actually in this design ideology bc . hes also supposed to look out of place and odd. But he looks out of place in a polished-almost out of your computer screen kind of way. Hes colorful (and he actually changes clothes very frequently. Too Frequently.) N thats a well contrast to sol.. I think.. Fun. Very Fun. Anyways yeah back to sol. Sols hair started out fairly tame but along the refusing to use references the art telephone game tm with myself it became very sharp and pointy and just. messy. and thats just not what i think he should look like ?!?! So i fixed up his hair. The tiptoeing thing was jist sumn that came to me while i was sketching N i was like OH this is it! That will add to the Weirdness Factor or something. I’ve walked on my tiptoes basically all my life n ppl always made huge of a deal out of it so ik from experience people notice it n perceive it as. odd behavior 🤧 I was thinking of mayb going for an anatomically correct heart silhouette or something but. Im very attached to soleils generally Very Symmetrical silhouette i didnt wanna touch it much… I think i incorporated enough <3 hearts to make up for it though! OH AND. Downturned her eyes! Ive been not drawing characters with downturned eyes for a while . Unsure why it became less frequent of me to draw them. Figured they fit her so. Thats a win for me bc i always love trying to make sure my ocs have unique ish traits within their circles. VERY LIKELY the design will get simplified as i draw him in the future. We’ll see i guess. That’s all i think maybe. Goodnight from the Key
#i was actually going to put a different. quote from my notes at the beginning#but i went to scavenge through my private server for some sol dialog instead#i wanna save that quote for an actual illustration#1 is avi and 2 is soleil i just didnt feel like writing their names there#oc#original character#my art#oc artwork#oc art#ocs#v teatime#Soleil Teatime#oc lore#oc design#character design

were you shit at art before you became good
you had to learn how to do things, one after the other, right? like colors and lighting and line art and textures and perspective and all that. you had to learn one and then the other and then the other and then the other … (or maybe some things went kind of hand in hand but yknow)
these are stupid questions (if there is such a thing of course, lmao,) but i would be very happy if you could indulge me haha, because looking at your art is so overwhelming when you‘re thinking about learning it yourself ahfjaka (i love looking at your art it‘s a really nice experience, it‘s just intimidating too and a lil ah.. you know ahdjsk, only when i think about like. it looks a little unattainable or like it‘ll take 20 years if i‘ll ever be able to and that‘s not really — like i know better than to indulge these thoughts sort of so nowww i feel silly about this ask adfhkjfs.
anyway.
nice art, still, wowwwww so so beautiful)
(it’s a process and it’s about the fun of that process too but i have such a vivid imagination that i really really want to get really GOOD so that i can make it actually visible, and i know it can and probs will take some time and that’s alright so this ask is a little silly. i‘m asking it anyway though ahdjsjsjwk)
hi!!! im not bothered by the ask and its not silly!
i was, in fact, shit at art when i first started out. the reason i even started to draw and do it as a hobby is because i was very dogshit at it. (if there is such thing anyways)
i think i was around 11 or so? that age where elementary school is ending and middle school is beginning and everyone's getting kind of mean lmao. one girl asked me to draw with her and she was REALLY GOOD at it! but i hadn't thought much about art at all and only really did it for fun. so i was really just doodling to my hearts content until she ah. told me that the panda i was drawing was. Really Really Bad. like point at it and laugh kind of bad. like 'not even being able to tell what it is everyone come see this' kind of bad.
anyways obviously i was not very happy. i had not really thought of art as something i wanted to do, nor a hobby that i wanted to indulge in. just something some people are good at it and some people arent. but this girl told me my art was shit, and i was so mad that i didnt talk to her for a month and then for that entire month i did nothing but watch people draw online. speedpaints at first. then i got on iscribble (collaborative whiteboard website at the time) and just watched people do it. and i asked them, how did they start? how do you know what to do? and a lot of people gave me different advice - start with shapes, oh finish the lineart first, color like this - and generally it was very overwhelming and a lot of the advice went over my head. a lot of artists advice feels incomprehensible when starting out, and some of it really stays that way bc there is some art advice i STILL do not understand at all (but it works for some people so power to them), and there is some that is more understandable when getting into the groove.
but anyways while talking to people i realized i kinda really liked the coloring aspect of art. really really liked it. id ask people if they finished their lineart, could i try and color it in the layer below just to try and improve? and SO MANY PEOPLE indulged me. and were incredibly nice. and i guess thats what made me enjoy art even though i knew that in a lot of aspects my art wasn't skilled. because people were really nice ANYWAYS and said i should keep going! so i found something i liked to do in art beyond spiteful beginnings, and i just kept it up - i learned coloring first, and i tried to learn everything else so i could color it lmao. i only did lineart and sketching and anatomy because i wanted to draw my own stuff to color. so you can totally focus on one thing at a time! thats what i did :)
i hope that story helps in any way!!! im not sure if it totally answers your question but i guess i wanted to share that growing in art is a process and you arent alone :) ty so much im glad you like my art and if you ever wanna share your own im always open!!! :D

sometimes watching shows & studying how they design characters, compose shots, use colors, etc. while watching can really help shape you as an artist! if ur a bit lost on where to start try finding model sheets of the characters from your favorite animated shows to understand the process of how your favs are designed, drawn, & finalized in the show! heres some things ive checked out for the past 3 years & helped influenced how i draw today!
something ive noticed when watching the things im interested in is the kind of art style being used: all of these examples tend to use heavy stylized shape language in their character designs, & most of them use thick black outlines to make the characters contrast from their environment (ofcourse theres a few lineless exceptions like fakin it, mr messy, & fosters for a few examples)
watching what interests you and analyzing the art style & character design can really help improve your character design skills!! it also helps to break down simple shapes in a character’s design to understand how theyre constructed & what makes them appealing.
2. warm up drawing!
another thing that helps is to draw warm ups! these are vital for the process of your finalized designs usually, as they help layout the structure, the pose, the direction for the line of action, etc.! speaking of which, a good helpful resource to start would be lineofaction.com! it has a lot of helpful resources for artists of all skill levels & help optimize your understanding of anatomy! the link to this is posted below:
3. dont immediately go with your first draft. experiment!
instead of going for your first draft of a design, try experimenting & see what works! if you nail the design on the first draft, thats really impressive! for me, some character designs take longer to finalize than others, but the payoff is absolutely worth it! its always helpful to design & redesign a character until you have a design you’re satisfied with.
4. have fun!
ik this is a basic tip but. generally having fun with designing characters & creating them is essential. whether you’re making little mind babies called ocs or reimagining existing characters, make the process engaging and worthwhile! otherwise character design can be just as tedious as working in the coal mines & writing lengthy essays for school/college assignments.
anyways tysm for thus ask, & i wish you luck on your artist journey !!!

Which brushes do you use for CSP 😳??
oh i always dreaded this question lmao-
ill be honest and clear cut with yall~
✨I have no idea✨
//wHEEze-
ok lemme explain, [tho if you dont wanna read all this just skip to the images in the end that i posted of my dumb self made and modified brushes] i have always used different mediums in my art~ ive used SAI, Gimp 2, CSP and occasionally Photoshop for the effects, filters and some brushes~ and i almost never remember where i downloaded them from because, first off, they were free anyway and i also almost always change them to fit my style beyond recognition to how they originally looked by default XDDD
MOST of my work is usually with SAI with almost the only brush i use in general for everything [ Inking, Coloring the edges, Shading, Lighting, and most other hand drawn shapes and hatching and etc ] is used with these settings. i never change it because i had years of experimenting to finally be comfortable with these and i will die a painful death if anything happens to my laptop before i could save these settings so i keep it in my art files just in case lmao~ [i do NOT like change and trying new stuff is2g i need therapy-]
HOWEVER when it comes to CSP i have had..... very depressing progress yay :D ... SAI in my experience has been a bit sucky in being able to handle large sizes and layers or anything else and having the possibility of crashing but the way it makes some things easy has been a MIRACLE for my lazy ass, i might have given up art before i ever even started if SAI didn't exist, but as how all EASY things usually are they start lacking in variety after a while, and i realized since one of my friends had bought me a CSP a long time ago, heck i might as well use it and oh my GOD the anxiety it induced ended me up with an IV and several trips to the hospital for injections to calm me down [and potentially temporarily blinding me] im not even joking. i mean yeah i was going through stuff back then that did NOT help my situation in general but the fact that CSP doubled my anxiety cuz i just couldn't draw with it made me have several existential breakdowns where i thought i will never be able to improve my art as a self proclaimed artist anymore because i had gotten so used to only working with what i found PERFECTLY comfortable to my own tastes that im just useless at getting used to anything else... so what happened was that i went on the most violent weekly spree of downloading any brush i could that even resembled REMOTELY to what i wanted- i also searched for brushes on tumblr or google or anywhere else- i watched so many CSP transition videos on youtube my brain was spinning and i was on a rout of self destructive agony to make this WORK. so now i have a bajillion downloaded brushes and all of them have spawned 20 other copies that i have aggressively modified beyond any sort of resemblance to what they used to be- it doesn't help that the file names and the brush names are different so i cant search for them either 😑
but if the brush names could help you in finding them uhhh, heres like.... 1/10th of the brushes i downloaded and modified that i actually did NOT go back and delete because they are fun to have around XD
have fun, //goes to cry in a corner-
#snow rambles#csp#sai#brushes#csp makes me wanna die#but it has so much variety#artists must suffer for their work#thats why its called PAINting

I’ve been spending several years trying to figure out how and what I want to draw, and I am completely geeking out over your style! Unique faces, diverse hair and skin tones, and the way you use colors absolutely amazes me as someone who is terrible at coloring haha. Thanks for giving a budding artist some inspiration :)
This is an extremely sweet comment so thankyou!
On the other hand while there’s a lot of people who insist that everyone needs to “find a style”; Your art style should be whatever lets you have fun during the process~ I find throwing color on my art like i’m finger painting to be mostly fun but some days i have more fun focusing on making weird lines and can’t be bothered to color at all! I think the biggest source of burnout i see on here is people trying to stay within a certain style or genre and thats no fun at all.
Obviously if you’re trying to make a living off of art you might not be able to just do what you feel like doing all of the time but that shouldn’t mean you should ever stop experimenting! Take inspo from a 1700’s painting, a five year olds crayon drawing, and an internet weirdo’s fanart, go nuts! Anyone who says theyve perfected their style is full of phooey or some corporate dweeb. (or maybe im just very adhd but thats how i see it anyways)
#im kinda sick so this might not make any goddamn sense but like#we are all internet weirdos and im not gonna pretend like any of us have standards#you do not owe anybody a certain style unless theyre specifically paying you for it#did i go to college for art? yes#did i somehow also not take any style development or color theory classes? yeah my advisor never noticed lmao

Hi yall here’s some more art lolz (not me forgetting that my name is Rory’s ART and stuff… and then only posting “stuff” lmao)
This is another one I did with crayons, I went to the aquarium (that I used to volunteer at) with a friend, and if you didn’t know STINGRAYS ARE MY LIFE so I was just inspired by that, I used to draw stingrays all the time and it had been a while. I tried experimenting more with the textures in the background and I really like I it turned out :3
And I did these ones yesterday! These are with oil pastels and they get a backstory yippee! So a while ago I was in this online IOP program (I left it after 2 weeks cuz it was awful and did nothing for me) and they have a 3 month and a 6 month discharge survey, so after 3 months I did the survey because it said if you did it you got a $10 gift card, and then I didn’t get a gift card -___- so when they sent me the 6 month one I was like well if I don’t get a gift card I don’t wanna do it lolz, but then they sent it again so I was like ok fine I don’t have anything better to do anyways and then I got the gift card! Apparently the gift card was for both surveys, not just the one. And since I had been messing around with crayons, I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to look at oil pastels, and the ones we used in elementary school were only 6 dollars so I got them!! Very long way to say I have oil pastels but whatever.
These were both me just messing around re-learning the medium. The rat is based off of someone else’s art I saw on Pinterest (I wish I could credit but there wasn’t anybody credited on the picture T^T, if it was you THANK YOU FOR THE INSPO) and then the portrait is based off of a photo of a person. I initially didn’t like how it turned out since it didn’t look like the photo/realistic, but looking at it now I think the less realistic version I made looks cool, especially with the color scheme it’s got going on
I also started on a digital on that one “I’m not calling you good boy *insert name* this meeting was SHIT” with my OC’s Royal and Karla, but after I spent like 30 mins trying to get Karla’s side profile right I just gave up. I’d really like to get it done sometime cuz it’s SO funny but Im really unmotivated to do digital stuff for some reason. I think it’s just I have a more perfectionist mind when it comes to digital and it’s just not as fun sensory wise.
New art supplies always make me more motivated to ✨do the art stuff✨, so hopefully I’ll be more active in that sense, especially since I’m back to not being able to walk properly. Toodles :3

Hii, for the artist ask game: number 4 and 10 is something I'd love to know :3
i wrote A LOT for this ask, sorry! i wanted to do the questions justice, yknow how it is.
4. piece you wish got more love?
Ive found from experience that original art tends to not do very well on social media, which kind of makes me sad. It's not much of a problem for me (because most of the stuff i post is fanart anyways) but i can't help but think that part of the reason i rarely ever draw original pieces or make OCs is because of the lack of feedback i get on social media. I know tumblr is supposed to be the fandom website, and maybe id have a different experience on another site, but it is disappointing when i post something original that I'm very proud of and it barely manages to get more than 20 notes, whereas something i like less easily surpasses 100 just because of the tags i put on it. i think the most recent example of this is this piece, which admittedly did get quite a few notes for an original piece, but definitely would have gotten more had it been fanart of the same caliber. this is also not to blame anyone or make anyone feel bad about not reblogging original art (god knows im guilty of that too, and art piggybacking off the popularity of other works of art are of course gonna get more notes), its just something ive noticed from my time on social media.
10. how do you deal with artblock?
i dont get art block very often, but when i do, its ANNOYING. it mostly manifests in me having a bunch of motivation for a part of my process that i cant get to without doing the stuff i have no desire to do (does that make any sense?). like, ill have a strong urge to render an artwork, but no ongoing WIPs that are at that stage, meaning i would have to sketch and color and shade a whole new piece before i could satiate that urge, or do the steps out of order which could mess up the flow and end look of a project. when i get like this, i find its best to try and translate those desires into different activities and take a step away from art. for example:
if i want to sketch, but nothing comes out right digitally, ill find a scrap piece of paper and a crappy pen and make thumbnails until i cant think of any other iterations of the ideas in my head. if one of them turns out good, ill take a picture and transfer it into my software, but only go over it a day or so later so i can have fresh eyes.
if i want to color, but i have no sketches currently ready for coloring, ill go into my photo editing program, find some random old photos that i never edited, and post-process them until i get something im happy with.
if i want to shade, but have no colored artworks ready for that, ill usually do a study of a photo ive taken, because most of the time me shading is really me wanting to see how light and shadow interact in certain scenarios. i actually did a whole AP portfolio on that because i liked shading and lighting so much!
if i want to render, but ive got no pieces ready for rendering, i find its easiest just to find a tedious activity where i can be a perfectionist but also feel like im the smartest person in the world. this generally turns into me cooking some big meal because its constantly engaging but also not that difficult. i know its probably weird for it to not have anything to do with art but this is just what works best for me, and i get the bonus of a nice meal at the end of it!
if i get the more classic kind of art block where everything sucks and nothing i make is good, i find its best to go back to the media that inspires me to make art, and not worry too much about having made something by the end of it. generally the media that inspires me ends up, well, inspiring me, and i can remind myself that art is a voluntary practice that i do because its fun, not because i want something out of it. if it doesnt manage to inspire me, thats okay, i can just tell myself im taking a break and live life for a bit.
i hope that was helpful, and i really enjoyed answering these questions! if anyone else wants to ask a question, the artist ask game is here.
