hello my love, questions for the ask game 💖💖
🌼 What’s the last thing you said out loud?
🙃 What’s a weird fact that you know?
🍪 If you were a cookie, what kind would you be?
okay, firstly. you're an icon for putting the questions next to the emojis because you KNOW I would forget. you know me so well 😭
🌼 the last thing I said out loud was, "No, I can wait," in response to my partner asking if I wanted meat free party pies for breakfast (I can't wait - I'm gonna have one while they are in a morning meeting).
🙃 ahhhh as soon as I saw this I was like I know no facts ever BUT I know that some species of Anglerfish display extreme sexual dimorphism in the sense that in order to SURVIVE, the male has to locate a female, BITE INTO HER SKIN, and release an enzyme that digests the skin of his own body that results in the FUSING TOGETHER of the pair down to a blood vessel level. Thus, the male lives as a parasitic body on the female and depends on the host for his survival because they have a shared circulatory system. In return she gets his sperm and can reproduce. WHO RUN THE WORLD?
🍪 I'd be an ANZAC because I'm basically 100% sugar and made of cheap ingredients hehe.

Daily fish fact #754
Krøyer's deep sea anglerfish!
The largest of the deep sea anglerfishes, females typically reach 77 cm (30.3 inches) but are able to grow up to 120 cm (47 inches)! Free-living males only hit 1.3 cm (0.5 inches), but upon attaching to a female and fusing onto her side, a mature male can grow in size to 16 cm (6.3 inches).

🐠 Daily Fish Fact: 🐠
Monkfish: Females grow larger and live longer than male monkfish. Females live to at least 13 years and grow to more than 4.5 feet long, while males only live about 7 years and grow to almost 3 feet long. Females release large egg veils that can contain more than 1 million eggs. They float near the surface along with the prevailing currents for 1 to 3 weeks until the veil disintegrates and the larvae hatch.

i don’t think chuck and norris are jon and martin anymore, but their voices being puppeted by the web
sam’s first statement about the institute seems like a warning at first, but i think that was a red herring. it was actually a lure, something to get him curious enough to start researching
the second institute statement supports this - as soon as sam says they’ve ran out of leads, chester drops enough information to nudge him forward (and even rope alice into helping)
there’s also the fact that statements were able to be archived digitally. in the previous universe, the web needed the archivist to use tape recorders for the ritual, but that’s no longer necessary. we also know how deep the connection between the internet and the web is, so it makes sense that a web-scrapping software would be similarly intertwined
it also makes colin’s breakdown even more suspicious. “jon” sent an email to sam knowing he would take it to IT, as you do with possible phishing. we can assume there wasn’t anything off with the content of the email, just the address, so what’s the point of sending it? other than to get rid of colin

—————————-——————————————
Common name: Anglerfish (I'm mainly talking about general deep sea angler fish in this post)
Scientific name: Lophiiformes
Habitat: mesopelagic (twilight zone) and bathypelagic (the midnight zone) zones
Diet: crustaceans, small fish - they are carnivorous
Feeding habits: ambush predators
Classification: Ray-finned fish
Genus: Lophius
Conservation status: most species are considered least concern; only one species (the spotted handfish) is critically endangered.
Extra info: there are over 200 species of anglerfish.
What you think of when you typically think of an anglerfish are the females. They experience sexual dimorphism, the females being large and having a rod-like extension on their foreheads, unlike the males who are much smaller and don't have the rods on their heads.
They can swallow prey up to twice their size.
Male anglerfish latch onto the female and are eventually fused to the female, and lose their eyes, and all of their internal organs except their testes. The females tend to have five or more males fused to their bodies.
(I couldn't find many photos sorry)
As this is bioluminescence Monday, I obviously have to mention the bulbs the females have attached to their heads. The light from the bulbs is caused by small glowing bacteria called photobacterium.

I had The Most Satisfying Exchange someone today:
Me, walking into the bookstore, to pet the new bookstore cat: I just love him so much, I come here inadvisably often now because I want to visit him.
The store clerk: Its not just you, its like we're an anglerfish and he's our cute little anglerfish lure, and he keeps us all very calm.
Me, seizing an opportunity I will never get again: I just learned that they discovered a new anglerfish behaviour, it was breaking science news today! Do you also lure people while swimming upside down!
The clerk: No! We should probably just leave the deep sea alone actually!

Random design tidbit I noticed while re-watching crob stories
I noticed that on Anglerfish Cookie's design, their lantern/"lure" isn't actually an actual lure. It's just a lantern that connect to either their cloak or their weird collar thing. (Like mentioned in the picture above)
I say this because it's actually reminds me of something about real life anglerfishes, which is the fact the only female anglerfishes have lures, not their male counterparts.
Fyi I'm not trying to say that just because Anglerfish Cookie lacks a real life means their a guy (they have no known pronouns as of the time of this post, I'm just using they/them for the sake of it), I just found it interesting.
Oh yeah, for anyone curious or just doesn't know the difference, here's what a female anglerfish looks compared to a male one (possible tw/cw for the female anglerfish);

Daily fish fact #495
Deep sea anglerfish!
Male anglerfishes have the largest nostril to head ratio of any animal! This is so that he can find a female to attach himself to in the deep abyss.
