So I was being a basic bitch the other day and listening to my true crime podcasts when it occurred to me just how suspicious Nile’s “death” would look to everyone not in the Guard, leading me to a train of thought that, 2200 words later, absolutely got away from me but I can’t let go so I’m inflicting it on all of you!
To set the stage, we know the movie takes place over approximately a week. Here’s what happens to Nile from the military’s point of view:
She dies is very seriously injured
She heals without a scratch
Just before she’s supposed to be shipped out to Germany, she vanishes, leaving two men concussed (and presumably reporting being knocked out by a woman with short hair wearing civilian clothes)
She goes AWOL for several days
They get word from the CIA that she is to be reported killed in action (details unclear)
So, at the beginning of this very weird week, the USMC has to tell Nile’s family of her death critical injury. What her family was told depends on how long she was dead – a Google search tells me that family will be notified in person within 8 hours of a soldier’s death, but we don’t know how long her first death lasted. For an injury, however, they’d get a phone call to notify them and the unit would arrange for them to visit as soon as the soldier is transferred out of a combat zone. Like I remember when I was in high school, a guy from my church who was a Marine was really seriously injured in a helicopter crash in Iraq and from what I could tell, his parents were told immediately and were flown out to Germany to see him, so it stands to reason that Nile’s family would have been informed relatively quickly after her throat was slashed, one way or another.
And then, she goes AWOL. Her family would be notified while the USMC tried to figure out where she went, not least because the military would want to know if she’s contacted them. (And it’s possible that her family may have been on the way to Germany to see her since we know that’s where she was supposed to go!) So for several days:
Nile’s mom and brother have no idea where she is
They know she was seriously injured and most certainly should not have been moving around on her own
They can’t get a hold of her
The military can’t tell them anything
And the next thing they know for sure is that she was “killed in action.” After being injured and vanishing into thin air. And they presumably cannot produce her body or any concrete evidence of her death. In any case, something sketchy is going on, so they’re like. SMELLS LIKE A MILITARY COVERUP.
In a surprise to probably no one, there is a well-documented legacy of mysterious US military deaths, particularly of women of color (TW for sexual assault in these links). The cases of LaVena Johnson and Vanessa Guillenin particular have made national news because of their families’ persistence in seeking justice. Likewise, Nile is a Black woman, and her mom and brother are most certainly hypercognizant of (a) state violence against Black people and (b) these high-profile cases of suspicious military deaths. So her family are seriously side-eyeing the situation, knowing that (a) the military has a serious incentive (and a documented history) of covering up things that make them look bad and (b) nothing about Nile’s disappearance and supposed death are adding up.
And Andy’s right. Nile does come from warriors. And you know who else does? Her brother.
Don’t get me wrong. Nile’s mom would absolutely not back down. She’d know something was up and want to get to the bottom of it. But based on what I know about Gen X parents (mine), they’re not the most technologically savvy. Like they can use the internet, but they didn’t grow up with it the way we young millennials and Gen Z did. So Nile’s brother takes the lead. And what do zillennials do best?
Social media.
Nile’s brother starts going hard on any site he can, trying to get the word out to see if anyone knows what happened to his sister. He starts a Reddit thread. He starts a Facebook group. He reaches out to the media and true crime bloggers and podcasters à la Sarah Turney, getting loud and being a general nuisance in hopes of getting some answers. He gets his friends and Nile’s friends involved. Maybe eventually Dizzy, Jay, and others from Nile’s unit hear about it and reach out, telling him what they saw and how weird it all was. He’s drumming up interest, and soon “Nile Freeman” becomes a household name (at least among the true crime fans).
Copley is, of course, trying his best, but at this point there is just so much that it’s impossible for him to scrub everything. Sure, he can erase new footage of Nile and the Guard, but what can he do about Reddit threads and podcast episodes that are speculating something weird has happened? Maybe he could hack the sites and shut those things down, but honestly, that’s the last thing he’d want to do, because that only adds weight to the theory that Nile’s disappearance is a military coverup. So eventually he has to tell Andy what’s going on.
Andy, obviously, does not take the news well. However, she is also completely computer illiterate, because that’s Booker’s job and he’s the only one who ever bothered to learn what the internet is in any meaningful way. (She probably calls Booker for advice, and for the record, I think Booker would have no qualms about shutting down conspiracy threads, tinhats be damned, but Copley is too concerned about the consequences. He’s ex-CIA for crying out loud, he knows how it’ll look if they scrub every mention of Nile’s name from the internet.) Maybe she confers with Joe and Nicky but, let’s be honest, they’d be equally unhelpful. So at this point, she knows they have to bring in Nile.
But the thing about Nile is that she, too, knows how to use the internet (duh). Aside from her being a young millennial/digital native, we know from the cave scene where she’s giving Booker suggestions on how to track Copley that she clearly is even more computer savvy than the average person. And for that reason she almost definitely took over the day-to-day tech stuff after Booker’s exile. So I think it would be foolish to expect her to be unaware of what’s happening. She’s not contacting her family or posting on the message boards or anything, but she knows what’s up. So Copley and the team probably sit her down to “break the news,” but we know the girl does not have a poker face (see: literally shooting herself in the foot and not being able to play it cool whatsoever) and cracks immediately, telling them she’s seen everything about her case – she’s not interacting with any of it, she certainly didn’t instigate anything, but she knows. (And she is so goddamn proud of her brother.)
At this point, I’d like to pause and consider Nile’s role in the overall narrative of this movie. She’s set up as a foil to Andy, obviously, but she’s also a foil to Booker. Booker, who, like Andy, is a serious pessimist, but who, unlike Andy, still has very fresh memories and trauma associated with being the new kid, which have destroyed him. In his mind (and Andy’s), if Nile communicates with her family, she’ll become just like him in a century or two – bitter, alone, and stuck with her grief and memories of watching her family die and knowing they died resenting her. It’s a small sample size, but this is the only experience they have to go off of.
But it doesn’t have to be like that.
There’s been a lot of discussion of TOG being a fundamentally queer movie – a group of people brought together because of something inherent about themselves that is different, that must be hidden, that causes others to hate, fear, and reject them. Booker’s backstory is the archetypal traumatic “coming out” story – his family learns who he is, hate him for it, and attempt to cast him out of their lives. He’s stuck with his trauma, his pain, his loss, and it consumes him.
But what if Nile’s family would be the opposite? What if her “coming out” to them as immortal is met with acceptance, love, celebration? What if her family is just overjoyed to have her back, and they don’t care what the circumstances are? I'm reminded of this incredible post from @shitty-old-guard-deaths a while back, where Nile’s mother hits Booker with a frying pan because “my baby let me believe she was dead for FIVE YEARS based on your bad advice???” (which may or may not have inspired this whole tangent). Nile takes the advice of someone who did the same thing she wants to do because she doesn’t want to risk her family’s rejection. She wants the good memories with her family and is afraid that showing them her true self will bring her unbearable pain, forever replacing those memories. But, with high risk comes high reward.
Anyway. Nile and the team are trying to come up with a plan for how to handle this whole thing, but she’s not really participating because she’s too afraid to hope. Until finally, quickly, so she doesn’t lose her nerve, she suggests she reach out to them, knowing that, realistically, that’s the only solution before things snowball even further out of control. The team is shocked, but realize that she has a point. They decide that Copley should actually be the first point of contact, posing as a US government official to talk with them and test the waters.
So Copley goes to Nile’s family’s house to talk with her mom and brother. They’re probably distrustful and apprehensive, but nonetheless secretly ecstatic that their work has paid off. They talk and review all of the information that they’ve collected, including testimonials from the people on Nile’s base and recent sightings (along with photos) of Nile (with the same three people) over the last few years that people have sent them but they haven’t posted publicly. At this point, Copley’s like, yeah this is about to blow up, we gotta put our cards on the table. He convinces them to come with him to some safe house/black site/whatever he can get that is technologically impenetrable (I’m picturing them in like, an interrogation room at a police station kind of deal), takes their phones, locks the doors, and brings in Nile.
What follows is the most delightful reunion scene of all time, bringing Joe, Nicky, and even Andy to tears as they watch and listen from outside the room. With Copley’s help, Nile tells her mom and brother about her immortality and what’s been going on since she died (within reason, of course), and they are thrilled. They don’t understand why (because no one does) but they don’t question it and they see it as a gift from God – she’s been resurrected, she will live, and she has a purpose. Her mother and brother are so happy to see her again and are willing to agree with pretty much anything to stay in her life as long as they can.
So. They set up some complicated agreement (they bring in the other three for support/intimidation as needed) setting the terms of their relationship. They swear Nile’s family to secrecy, maybe bringing up the lab to show how high the stakes are, and they readily agree. They come up with some cover story for Nile’s brother to share on the message boards (maybe that the government has opened an investigation but because it’s an open case he has to shut it all down? Tells people to direct their tips somewhere else? Something to that effect). There’s still speculation, of course, but without Nile’s brother at the helm providing the energy, the hype dies down as news stories are wont to do without any movement. And Nile’s family goes to work for the team. The experience has taught them that Copley can’t possibly do everything himself, especially when it comes to social media, so Nile’s brother takes the lead on the day-to-day tracking/social media while Copley and her mom focus on finding jobs and scrubbing their traces afterward.
So there you have it: Nile gets to integrate her biological family into her found family and spend the rest of their lives with them as it should be, Copley gets some badly needed help managing the reality of social media, the team finally has a positive narrative surrounding outsiders Knowing About Them AND about interacting with people from their previous life, and the audience gets the happy ending to this very lovely and very queer story to counteract the pain associated with Booker’s family.
Plus, you know, I’m a sucker for both a good government conspiracy theory and for Nile getting every good thing she deserves.

Thank you for calling Engineering The Mind, please listen to the following options and select the option that applies to you. press one if you are inquiring our Love services, press two if you are inquiring our Mental Health services, press three if you are inquiring our Synaptic Pruning services, please stay on the line for a representative to assist you.
You’ve pressed three, please stay on the line and one of our representatives will be with you shortly.
“Good morning and thank you for choosing our Synaptic Pruning service, could I get your name and date of birth?”
“Actually, I have a question?”
“Yes?”
“If I wanted to erase someone from my memory, am I able to do that?”
“Yes! As long as there is consent from both parties.”
“But can I do it myself?”
“Unfortunately, the procedure requires both parties to consent and participate, the new law states it is considered illegal to synaptically prune another person from your memory without the other party’s consent.”
“Is there a way I can notify the person without personally contacting them?”
“Of course, as long as you know their name, date of birth, and social, then we can reach out to the other party to inform them that you have started the forms for a synaptic pruning procedure and they will have 30 days from the day of their notification to begin their forms.”
“What happens if they reject?”
“If the other party rejects, then unfortunately we cannot move forward with the procedure.”
“Okay. I’d like to start a form and have them be notified.”
“Perfect, let me just quickly get the information of the other party. What is their relationship to you?”
“Ex-husband.”
“Name of the other party?”
“Oikawa Tooru.”
His luggage drags against the airport’s floor, the sunglasses on his face protects against the amount of camera flashes. Oikawa waves to the cameras, waving to fans, momentarily stopping to take in the bustling Japan airport. Home felt so distant for him.
“Is it true you’re here for a procedure?” A reporter is walking alongside him.
Oikawa merely smiles, “No. I’m just here on vacation, I missed Japan so much, the last time I was here I wasn’t able to do many of the things I wanted to. I’d appreciate it if I am treated as any other citizen.”
“There’s rumors that you’re in Japan to possibly be scouted for one of the Japanese teams, care to explain?”
Oikawa stops, staring directly at the camera, “Like I said, I’m here on vacation and on my own dime. I’m here to attend a wedding of a very close friend and have no plans on looking into other teams, but I can assure you, I plan on playing for the Argentinian team for as long as I can.”
“Do you think your previous injury will affect your current position on the Argentinian national team?”
Another reporter manages to squeeze in, “It’s been almost a year since your injury, are you considering retiring your number if your injury doesn’t improve?”
Oikawa laughs. The television screen cuts off. He’s been in Japan for almost a week now, at least that’s all you know of since he had texted you once he had arrived. From what you can gather through social media, he wasn’t in town. He was frolicking through his childhood neighborhood, meeting friends and family who haven’t seen him since the Olympics.
It’s early morning in your home, the sheets hug you with warmth, you’ve been awake for some time and if you were honest, you didn’t think you slept at all. Ever since he’s stepped foot back into the country, you haven’t been able to sleep properly.
The head on your chest stirs and the male’s breathing falls steady back into slumber. His body is entangled with yours, body weight practically all on top of you, and his breathing brings a sense of dread in you for a moment. It feels similar to him.
You lift your arms, holding out your hands in front of you to gaze at the small diamond. It’s tucked between your pinkie and middle finger, it’s bright and beautiful just like he was promising your future with him would be.
He, your current lover; the man you absolutely loved and adored. The man who spent the last five years keeping you sane.
“Osamu.” Your fingers tugged his hair lightly, “It’s time to wake up.”
“Five more minutes.” He tightens his grip around your waist, “I just want five more minutes with you.”
Your finger drags along his spine, “You say that every morning.” You slap your palm on his back and he groans, “You have to open the restaurant soon.”
He hums, eyes blinking, trying to adjust to the darkness. It’s too early in the morning, “You’re going in for a check up today?”
Your fingers that play with his hair stops, “Yes.”
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
It was your decision, something Osamu had reminded you a hundred times. The decision to try and erase someone from your memory; he always found it to be a hard pill to swallow. But it was something you thought about a million times, it kept you awake at night, and even when you called a few weeks ago to start the process, it felt surreal.
Osamu lifts himself, leaning on his forearm to peer down at you, his beautiful bride to be, “I can still close the shop and come with you.”
He was an absolute sweetheart, “I told you I’ll be fine. And you can’t close the restaurant every time I go to the hospital?”
He brings his lips to meet yours, “Is that a challenge?”
You laugh against his kiss, “Go get ready or else.”
“Or else what?” He straddles your legs, pressing kisses on your neck to your chest. His fingers ride up his shirt you’ve declared yours, pressing his lips along your abdomen, “Good morning.”
“Call me if anything happens.” Osamu presses a chaste kiss to your lips at the doorway, “I like you.”
Your lips are in a grin, “and I like you too.”
The door shuts behind him and you’re left alone with your thoughts. If you were correct, you’d be seeing him again. Oikawa should be meeting you at the hospital. You’ve texted him a reminder. It’s marked as read; he doesn’t bother to respond.
The sound of a buzzer makes you jump, it draws you to the look at the video cam that views the front gates. You’re grinning thinking Osamu has forgotten something, but the smile gets wiped off when it’s him. Oikawa Tooru is standing at the gates of your home.
“What are you doing here?” You speak into the microphone.
Oikawa seems to have discovered the camera, “Can’t visit anymore? I thought we could catch up.”
What reason would there be to catch up? If everything goes smoothly, you’ll be without a thought of him in the next few days. You’re reluctant to let him in, you want to tell him to go away, but you’d have to meet him later any way. The gates buzz open and Oikawa enters the front yard of the home.
It’s exactly the same to him, after all, this was his and your home first. The Oikawa residence. He bought the house without your knowledge, saved up as much of his paychecks could get him.
“May I come in?” Oikawa smiles upon seeing you.
You’re holding the front door, still small as ever, like you were guarding the home with your life, “Yes.” Your voice is tiny, giving him room to enter the house.
Oikawa takes in the smell of the place, still the same, still has your scent and he concludes you’re probably still lighting the same scented candles he liked. He wonders if he should be flattered by the information.
“Do you want something to drink?” You inquire, pulling out a mug to pour yourself water and another mug for whatever Oikawa wanted, “Peach tea?”
It was his favorite; you can remember it as clear as day. He’d drink it breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He said it paired nicely with the milk bread and he called it sweet; just like you. You shake the memory as you pour the hot water.
There was nothing but awkwardness between the both of you. You’ve distracted yourself with your morning routine and Oikawa silently sits. If he’s going to fantasize for a second, he’s pretending you’re still his wife. Shamelessly daydreaming like you were his.
“We have to be at the hospital by noon.” You say without looking at him, your head dipping back as you slip the pills into your mouth.
“Sounds good to me.” Oikawa taps his fingers against the dining table.
It brings back memories of dinner with you, on days when he would be able to find a week off practice to see you. You’d eat with him until two in the morning, trying to squeeze in as much time with him as possible before he hopped on a plane back to Argentina, and he would pretend as if he didn’t hear you crying while washing the dishes.
“So how have you been?” Oikawa asks innocently.
You drink the rest of your water, a simple nod of your head, “Fine.” Your gaze falls briefly on his knee, “And you?”
Oikawa instinctively puts a hand over his knee as if that could hide the ache, “Fine too.”
Yet Oikawa and you know, everything was far from fine. It was the same way towards the end of the marriage, communication was blurred, there was too many missed connections, and the only news you’d get of Oikawa was from the sports channels.
“Do you still work at the public library?”
You tilt your head at him, “You mean the university library? When I was doing work study?”
“Oh.” Oikawa rubs the back of his neck, “Guess you’re not”. He’s trying to think why it feels so hard to talk to you again, “How are your parents?”
You freeze and he realizes his mistake. He remembers the arguments, the sadness of the conversations, the way your parents loathed him for proposing so early. Oikawa married you fresh out of high school, he promised you happiness and yet towards the end of the marriage, he shattered your heart.
“They’re great!” You smile, “They really love my fiancé.”
You were purposely trying to hurt him.
“What’s he like?” Oikawa was curious or was he jealous?
“What do you want Tooru?” Your voice is sharp as you set down your mug, “Why are you here?” You know him too well, he doesn’t do things just because; he always has a motive, “Are you here to try and stop me? I want to move on.”
“Then why can’t you do it yourself? Why do you feel like you need to erase me?” Oikawa, he was sad. He had never felt more crushed than when he had received the phone call; you were requesting to remove him from your mind and he’d only accepted to see you again. He wanted you to look him in the face, feel the hurt that he had, “Did you not think of my feelings?”
“No, you didn’t think of mine when you naturalized as an Argentinian citizen.”
It was always the same argument, Oikawa stares at you, it wasn’t that different from years ago. When he blinks, he’s transported to seven years ago. Your eyes red as you looked at him, the fighting was reaching two hours and the bags in Oikawa’s hands signals he’d be leaving for another few month. But this day was different, the fight was wearing you down, especially when you read news of Oikawa becoming a naturalized citizen. Oikawa blinks and he’s back to the sun lit room.
“This isn’t how you move on from a relationship?” Oikawa says, “It takes time.” Time was seven years, since the divorce seven years of broken hearts have passed. Oikawa knows deep down that you still loved him and he knows in his heart that he wants to ask you to run away with him, “You know that this is wrong.”
“But it’s my choice.”
Oikawa’s eyes begin to water, “And you’re making me choose too?” Tears fall from his cheek, “It’s your choice but you’re forcing me to choose also.” His chest becomes heavy, “Please don’t do this.” He openly sobbing in front of you, “I don’t want to stop.” His wail makes your heart clench, “I don’t want to forget what it was like to love you.”
“Tooru.”
“I don’t care.” Oikawa blubbers, “I’m not going to do it.” A pit grows in your stomach, “All I ever did was love you.”
Your eyes glossy, it was like you were going back to the worst nights of your life, “You stopped caring about me.”
“No, I didn’t!” Oikawa stands, “I never stopped. I was doing everything for you!” He was a tearful mess in front of you, “You left me! You abandoned me!”
“You can’t say that when you were halfway across the world!”
“For you!” Oikawa screams, “If you had waited one more year, I could have brought you over.”
You wipe the tears from your face, a sigh on your lips, “Why didn’t you just ask me to go with you in the first place?”
It was always the question that nipped at you. When he was confronted with the opportunity of staying in Japan or joining an Argentinian team, he never hesitated and you waited for him to ask you to go with him; but he left you behind with the house, sending money every two weeks like you were an afterthought.
“It was complicated.” Oikawa’s eyes soften, “I just, I didn’t want you to leave behind your life here. Your friends, your family. You would have had to quit school to come with me, to a place where you didn’t know the language or the place, and with me practicing, you would have no one.”
You shake your head, “No. You were worried about yourself. You made the decision to leave me behind without a second thought because you wanted to focus on volleyball and where has that gotten you; injured.”
Maybe that was why you wanted so badly to erase him from your memories, you still clung to the thoughts of him. Still stayed updated on his life, still worried about his health, still wondering on the what ifs with him. What if you had just left with him? What if you hadn’t gotten married to him? What if you weren’t so hopelessly still in love with him?
“Just let me be happy.” You whisper, “Just let me forget I was ever in love with you.”
The ride to the hospital ached. The cab silent and melancholy. It was only a consultation and yet it already felt like the end of everything. The waiting area didn’t make it any better, the air was thick with tension from other couples. Oikawa’s status had the two of you placed priority and it didn’t take long for a doctor to come into the room.
“I would like to inform you that we use the term ‘erasing memory’ loosely. Our procedure merely detaches you from the other party. You’ll still have the memories, but you won’t feel anything, and you won’t remember them as much as you might today.” The doctor hands you and Oikawa separate forms, “If you both sign the consent forms, we can schedule the procedure as soon as possible.”
The pen in Oikawa’s hands hover over the signature line, he can hear you scribbling against the paper and his heart is shattering. Sloppily, he signs his name on the line.
“Sorry, I forgot to ask.” You look at the doctor, “Is the procedure safe for pregnant women?”
Oikawa’s world crumbles.
“The procedure is set for tomorrow morning.” The receptionist is talking.
You smile, “Perfect, thank you.”
She prints out two different instructions for you and Oikawa to prepare for the procedure. You overlook the instructions, no longer sparing a glance to Oikawa as you walk away.
“Hey.” The voice makes your head snap up. Your fiancé walking towards you.
Instinctively, your arms wrap around his neck, “What are you doing here?”
Osamu presses a kiss to your temple, “I came to pick you up.” He looks over your shoulder, spotting the man he knows too well from various photos, “Hi.” He reaches out to Oikawa, “I’m Miya Osamu.”
Oikawa grips Osamu’s hand, “ Oikawa Tooru. It’s nice to meet you.” Oikawa says bitterly.
Osamu’s hand rests on your hip, in a matter of seconds, he’s leading you away and Oikawa is left to stand all alone.
The night is restless. It’s instructed that you and Oikawa get a good night’s rest, but who can rest soundly the night before a procedure. You sitt on the edge of your bed, your fiancé sleeping soundly, and you stare at the moon. You play with the ring on your finger and a tear lands on the back of your hand. You suck in a heavy breath, trying to quell the sound of sobs.
Oikawa sits knees to his chest on the couch of Iwaizumi’s who was gracious enough to let him stay at his place. The moon is bright, and it shines a spotlight on Oikawa. His eyes are tired, but he stares at the screen of his cell phone, finger swiping continuously through the photo album. Your smiles reflect in his eyes and even when Iwaizumi snags the cell phone from him; Oikawa looks up at him bawling.
Six in the morning, you’re sitting on a hospital bed, Oikawa laid next to you. The silence is deafening.
“I hope you know.” Oikawa whispers, “I’m very happy for you.”
You look at him, taking in what might be the last time you feel love for him, “I love you.”
Oikawa smiles, “No you don’t,” He’s tricking himself, believing that you loathed him, that this was the better option for you, “but I love you too.”
They say, the longer the relationship, the longer the procedure takes. Similarly, the more you loved, the harder it was to subdue the memories. It required patients to stay awake, to go through every little detail, to talk about everything from the beginning to the end.
Your fingers were initially interlocked with his, something to help the anxiousness, or was it to cling to him for a moment.
“I met you when you came to cheer on the volleyball team in high school.” Oikawa stares at the white ceiling, he hears the machinery, the typing of a computer, “You looked so pretty.” The memory becomes hazy.
“He kissed me on the school’s rooftop.” Your lips curved in a smile, “He kept asking me if it was alright.” Your smile slowly falls to a thin line, “I suddenly can’t remember what I said back.”
“It took me a week to find the perfect ring.”
You laugh, “You got impatient, proposed with a paper ring on the school’s rooftop after we snuck into the school after dark.”
It feels empty, your heart feels a weight lifted. Your fingers slowly let go of Oikawa’s. He begins to weep.
“Why are you crying?” You ask.
He sniffles, “Was that the last time you felt happy with me?”
“No.” Your voice soft, “I was always happy when you came home.” There’s another weight off your heart, “You always came in running, always excited to see me. Sometimes, when the front door opens, I think it’s going to be you.” You’re hit with relief.
Four weeks pass in a blur. You honestly don’t remember much of the week after the procedure, but you stare at your loving fiancé. A hearty giggle on your lips as you move to straddle him on the bed. Your palms are squishing his cheeks and Osamu is chuckling. His hand resting on your small baby bump.
“We’re getting married!” You’re kissing him, excitedly jumping on him as though you weren’t knocking the wind out of him.
“Alright.” Osamu sits up, lips stealing your breath away, “by the end of the day, you’ll be Mrs. Miya.”
You laugh into the kiss, “I can’t wait.”
The wedding venue is bustling, everyone is itching to take a picture with the bride and groom. You’re grinning widely at the way Osamu bickers with his brother, the photographer taking photos despite the twins poking at each other.
“May we take a picture with the bride?”
Your smile grows; four men dressed in their best suits approach, “Is this a high school reunion?”
One man lingers briefly behind, your husband presses a hand to the small of your back before leaving. Oikawa takes over the place of your spouse.
“Fancy meeting you here.” Oikawa tilts his head with a beam.
You roll your eyes, “At my own wedding.”
His voice falls to a whisper, “Are you happy?”
Your eyes stare in the direction of your husband and you nod, “Yes.” When you look at Oikawa, there’s a small tug in your heart, it’s tiny enough that it disappears within moments, “Thank you.”

Note
Um hi, I don't normally send prompts but I had an idea, so…anyway, basically the prompt is a villain's young sidekick who shows up at the villain's doorstep in the middle of the night (villain is a nice person; more unlawful than evil, idk) really injured, and when the villain patches them up, they end up accidentally revealing that they live with an abusive family? Idk, sorry if this is a weird idea.
With ideas as good as this one, you should send prompts more often ^^ It's not weird at all, I absolutely love this. I tried really hard on this one, so I really hope you enjoy!
Please note that this work contains descriptions of the aftermath of physical child abuse. If this would upset or distress you, please avoid reading this work.
CW//Child abuse, physical child abuse, verbal child abuse, being called a 'freak', death of a spouse, blood, bacteria (in a scientific setting)
Villain had never been much of a fan of children.
They wouldn't exactly describe it as a dislike. Kids were... fine. Annoying on occasion, and endlessly confusing with their new trends and habits, but fine. Those who brought them into the world and raised them provided a precious service, but their talents were far more useful elsewhere.
They squinted their eye, the eye pressed up against the lens of their microscope. With a tiny twist of a knob, the image below focused, displaying in full detail a million squirming lifeforms.
The culture was developing as expected. They removed the slide and returned the bacterial colony to its petri dish.
They'd thought about having a family, when they were young. A juvenile, clueless thought, but a thought nonetheless. There was something that warmed them about the concept of a home that was never empty.
Nowadays, they shared their home with no one but the bacteria, and they weren't exactly the best conversationalists.
Villain moved across their lab, soft socks muffling the thudding of their feet on the tile. With practiced accuracy, they returned the petri dish back to its tray, where it belonged.
They couldn't help but glancing just to the right. To the rabbit cage, sitting empty as it was. The light above it was still glowing bright, illuminating the stale hay below, and the toilet paper roll where the cage's inhabitant's teeth had once gnawed.
Now, the habitat sat empty.
They couldn't bring themself to clean it out. That was Spouse-
That was Spouse's job.
Villain bit their lip, taking another petri dish from the tray and returning to their microscope.
They growled and swatted at the thoughts that fought to enter their brain, but it was no use. No weapon could have fended them off.
Because... Because...
Because Spouse had loved kids.
They had always talked about the concept in dreamy, wistful tones. The idea of having a family, of creating something together that wasn't borne of chemicals in a lab. And Villain had agreed. But it was always simply a plan. Something that would be done sometime in the future. When the world wasn't so hectic. When there wasn't work to be done. When...
Villain bit their tongue hard enough to draw blood, gazing as intensely through the microscope's lens as they could manage.
Now that Spouse was gone, the laughter of children would never light the dreary home. There would always be a spare bedroom.
Their home would always be empty.
Maybe that was why they had taken Sidekick in.
It was something they'd wondered so often, not that they'd ever admit it to the teen they had taken under their wing. The relationship had started so uneventfully-- a powered kid with just enough spunk and reckless abandon to find their way into the world of heroes and villains.
At first, Villain hadn't even thought of them as a sidekick. They were just a kid that they trained in their free time. A future ally who needed someone to show them the ropes.
Then, they'd started coming with them on missions.
And fighting at their side.
And now, Villain couldn't help wondering, whenever they laid in their large, empty bed, what Spouse would have thought of their protege. If they were still around, then Sidekick's 16th birthday cake wouldn't have been so shitty. But, hey, no one could say that Villain hadn't tried.
Damn, did they miss that kid. Even when they called them a dinosaur and laughed when they didn't know what Tock-Tic was, or whatever they'd said. They'd been gone almost a whole week, now.
It wasn't the first time, of course. No teen had the time to be a full-time sidekick. They had their own life. They needed to go to school and hang out with their friends and be a kid. And do whatever kids did on Tock-Tik. Villain was certain that they would come back when they were able.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
By the time the knock on the door came, Villain was almost done with their inspection of the bacteria colonies. Their tired eyes flitted to the clock on the wall: Three in the morning. Had it been that long?
And who the hell was at their door at three in the morning?
The knock sounded again, yet, this time, it was distinct. Three sharp taps, then a fourth two seconds later.
Sidekick's knock. The one they'd practiced, to notify Villain when they arrived. But... They looked at the clock again. Their eyes had not deceived them. It was the dead of night. The kid should have been asleep hours ago!
Without care, they tossed down the petri dish in their hands on the nearest countertop, not so much as bothering to shrug off their lab coat as they hurried to the front door. They expected to hear the knock again-- the kid was always so impatient-- but there was no such noise. Only heavy, shallow breathing.
Other villains would have bemoaned their recklessness, but that didn't matter. What mattered was that their kid was here.
Villain flung open the window. Sidekick leapt back.
Sidekick...
They stood in the doorway a moment, liquid shock and terror battling for dominance within their bones. When they finally recovered, they spoke no words, only bustled their protege through the door and locked it behind. The kid stumbled all the way to the lab's exam table, which Villain practically threw them upon.
The terror in their bones had settled firmly in their stomach.
"What in the world happened to you?"
It was with the gaze of a parent rather than a doctor that they scanned the kid from head to toe.
The sheer volume of blood made it difficult to pinpoint their wounds. Yet, it was clear to see that the side of their head was still pumping scarlet, and the crimson dribbling down their leg was already dripping onto the pristine lab floor.
Villain gulped. The idea of taking their eyes of the kid for a split second was petrifying, but they relented, rushing off to returning a moment later with handfuls of rags. They shoved one into the kids hands.
"Hold this to the wound on your head, as tight as you can. I'll clean off your leg."
Even with trembling hands, the kid obliged as Villain knelt down , drenching rag after rag in blood until the leg was finally clear. At the very least, the wound upon their knee seemed to have stopped weeping scarlet. It was a messy thing, blunt trauma with enough force behind it to tear straight through the skin. The villain's practiced fingers tied a tight wrapping of gauze around the joint, standing to their feet.
Blood had seeped between Sidekick's fingers, but it seemed to have begun to dry. The head wound had stopped bleeding.
"Good." Villain pried the soaked rag from the kid's hands, tossing it aside. They could clean up later. "Where else?"
Sidekick averted their gaze, shoulders winding up taut.
"You need to tell me where you were hurt. Please."
After a few moments of trembling like a leaf, the kid gestured to their side.
"Okay. Can you take your shirt off for me, please? I need to get that cleaned."
"Okay..." The kid whimpered, obliging. Villain tossed aside the bloodied garment with little care, adding it to the pile of dirtied fabric.
Their torso...
The wound on their side, just above the hip, did not bleed nearly as bad as the other two. But...
With the sheer amount of bruises littering their flesh, Sidekick's skin may as well have been blue.
Villain took a clean rag, pressing it to their side.
"Who." They spat. "Who did this?"
Their mind began to run with such speed that, had it been a computer, its fans would have been on overdrive. What heroes were active around Sidekick's neighborhood? A few came to mind, at least one or two that were far enough outside the law that they wouldn't have put much thought into doing this to a kid.
But Sidekick did not speak, instead staring at their own shoes, dangling off the exam table.
When the hip wound was dried and wrapped, Villain whirled around, grabbing their phone and flicking to the contacts page. Which of their fellow villains was near the kid's home? They could think of at least a couple. Even if they were little more than acquaintances, someone who would hurt a kid was the common enemy of all.
"I need a name, kiddo. A name. Was it Viper? Sunstorm? The Twilight Reaper? I have friends, lots of friends. We can make them regret this."
No reply. Villain bit their lip, selecting a contact, moving their finger towards the call button-
"Wait!"
The kid at last cried.
"It wasn't a hero. My dad's not a-"
Villain whirled around.
"Your dad?"
Sidekick flushed.
"U- um, no, I, um-"
"Did your father do this?" They stormed to the exam room where the kid sat. "All of this?"
"I- I-" Their voice was choked by tears, carving down their scarlet-stained face.
Villain placed their hands on the kid's shoulders, turning their gaze towards them.
"Please. Please, kid."
The falling tears turned to full-on sobs.
"H- He said I was a- a freak!" They wailed. "I was training, I- You said I needed to practice my flying, in bird form. And I was practicing, and I didn't think anyone else was home, and then he walked in and-"
A sob broke their voice.
"They told me never to use my powers. He doesn't know that I- I stopped taking the pills. The ones that suppress them. And he got m- mad, and, and-"
"It's okay, it's okay."
Villain threw their arms around their child, embracing them while taking care not to disturb their wounds.
"I didn't know where else to go." Sidekick's words were strangled. "I'm sorry, but I didn't want to go back home and..."
"No, no." They tightened the embrace. "No. You don't have to go back, never. Not if you don't want to."
They broke off the hug, picking their phone up again once more.
"Talon has kids your age, she would take you in. Alya, too. Swan Dancer is a teacher..."
"Um." Sidekick seemed to have run out of tears, leaving them with only a broken, low voice. "I... That's all fine. But, um, I thought you mentioned having a spare room?"
Despite their parental terror, Villain let their face break into the smallest smile.
Spouse's room.
In a way, maybe they would get to meet Sidekick, after all.

Halfway to the drive you remember to ask, "So who are we interviewing at the school?"
"James O'Malley, who is the principal, and Margaret Solokowski, one of three first grade teachers." His response is automated as he looks to the right out the window.
Your mind drifted back to the case from when you were only nine. It was the reason you wanted to be involved with S.W.A.T or the FBI.
Your brother was playing in a sand pit at the local playground when you turned around to go buy the two of you some ice cream cones from the truck driving slowly past.
There was a priest with a group of nuns walking through the park, discussing something about the "Lord's Will". You didn't believe in any of that stuff then, so you rolled your eyes and told the nice man what ice creams you wanted.
"There you go, kiddie."
"Thank you!"
Spinning on your heel, you licked your own ice cream as you went to get back to Joey, your brother.
Something was wrong though. When you looked, he wasn't there anymore. He had been playing with a group of three kids, and none of them were there anymore. Turning back around you remember the Priest had been driving away with the nuns. You saw the two other childrens' mothers crying and talking, flailing their arms wildly at each other.
"Joey? Joey where are you," you wandered around the play set for a minute and started crying when you couldn't find him.
Wandering up to one of the adults scattered through the play area, a mother with a small baby in her arms, and said, "Can-" a sniffle before, "Can I borrow your phone? I need to call my mom."
"Of course, honey," she shuffled the little girl to her other hip and grabbed the phone from her other pocket. "Here you go sweetie. Is there anything else you need?"
"No. Uh, thank you. I'll bring it right back."
Taking a few steps away you called your mother's house number, suddenly grateful for the pressure she had put on you from a young age to remember her house number and her cell number.
"Mom-"
Hey, honey,- what? What's going on?"
"Mom, I can't find Joey. He's not here. I just walked ten steps to get our ice cream and he's- I can't find him, mom. And the other two kids were gone too. I don't know what to do, he's gone. Mom-"
"Honey?"
"I can't find-"
"Y/N!" You finally stop rambling and quiet down enough to hear your mom's voice and your own heartbeat. "We'll find him, okay? Tell whoever's phone this is what happened, and then wait there for me okay? Ask the lady you borrowed this from to call the police and help you explain what happened and I'll be right over there okay? It will take me five minutes, okay?"
"Okay. I love you."
"I love you too, Peanut."
Hanging up the phone you do as she told you and explained your situation to the kind woman with the baby. She agreed to help you call the police, even though the other parents had probably already done it.
"Are you okay, Y/N?"
"Y/N? Hey. Y/N! You missed the turn..."
You snap out of your flashback and look around you at the road.
"What?"
Hotch let out and annoyed puff of air and pointed to the road that you were about to drive past. "That's our turn. You know, to get to the school. That's right there."
Mumbling under your breath you turn the signal on and slam the breaks after seeing there was no one behind you. You smirk to yourself when you see that the man in the passenger seat had to throw his arm out so as not to hit the dashboard.
"Agent, if you do not drive this vehicle with care, I will personally revoke your privilege of driving on the clock," he threatens as he adjusts the lapels on his suit jacket.
You ignore him and park in front of the school, getting out and straightening your own blazer.
"You let me do the talking, L/N." He declares as he brushes past you, not bothering to hold the door on his way.
Murmuring under your breath, you follow him in.
Almost immediately, you are stopped by someone from campus security and flash your badges in reply. The guard simply nods and sends you through, pointing to the principal's office.
"Mr. O'Malley? I'm SSA Aaron Hothcner, and this is Agent L/N. We are here from the BAU in Quantico investigating the homicides that I'm sure you've heard about. I was wondering if we could ask you a few questions about the victims; they were all students here." Hotch's air of professionalism was back full force rather than his childish antics only five minutes ago.
O'Malley shakes his head slightly, a red tint coming to his ears as his eyes scan the clock. "Actually, I don't have the time right now. I have another meeting coming up shortly-"
"Sir, your meeting isn't for another fifteen minutes," the secretary states before turning back to you and Hotch, "Surely that's enough time for you and your partner to ask him a few questions?" The young woman looks at you when she speaks, her eyes silently pleading. She must know something as well.
"No, Anne. I really don't have time for that-"
"Hotchner, if you want to talk to Mr. O'Malley, maybe I could ask," you pause, reading her desk tag, "Ms. Brink a few questions?"
She nods her head eagerly, and as much as Hotch wanted to argue, he has seen her desperate look as well and would have suggested splitting up if you hadn't.
"I was just about to say that. Mr. O'Malley is there somewhere we could go that's a bit more private?" Hotch questions, signaling behind him, "If that's a break room that would be perfect."
O'Malley nods, standing up. He walks towards the door, opening it as he turns back to look at the you and Hotch. There's a glint of something in his eyes and-
And he's running.
"Go! Hotch, go, go, GO!" Before you even finish urging him to chase the principal he's running after the man. "Anne, if you know anything suspicious about James O'Malley you need to tell me, and you need to tell me now."
Tears well in the younger woman's eyes as she nods, fists bunching in the skirt of her peach colored dress. "He, uh. He has made- you know. S-sexual advances on a few young girls. He did the same to me, b-but when he d-did it to me he said he would kill the next girl that w-was in here if I told..." Anne breaks into sobs as she hangs her head low.
"Anne, listen to me. None of this is your fault. You were only trying to protect these girls and yourself. This has been extremely helpful, thank you, Ms. Brink." Gently you reach over and squeeze her hand, sliding a box of tissues towards her before quickly slipping out of the office.
Pulling your phone out of your pocket, you call Garcia.
"BAU Sperm Donation: You jack 'em, we pack 'em. How can I help you my pretty?"
You don't have time to laugh, though you so badly wanted to. "Pen, I need to to pull everything you can find about James O'Malley. He's the-"
"School principle of Opportunity Elementary. He's 37 years old, comes from a highly religious background- Papa Bear was a Priest. He- oh boy. Oh no. This is not good." You hear computer keys clacking on the other end before you prompt her to keep speaking.
"Yeah, Pen? What's not good?"
"This guy," she clicks her tongue, "And his entire recent history when you deep-dive in my Fancy Google. This guy is on review for child molestation and rape charges."
You slam your fist against the nearby wall and curse lowly, "Do you have any large property in his name? Anything big enough to have some sort of shrine, or altar? Also, with enough room to... oh God... cleanly chop off a-"
"Ah! AH! Stop! I get it. I'm looking."
After a moment she sighs, "Bingo! 142 Walnut St. right outside of the town that the school is in. Twelve minutes and forty-three seconds from your current location. I'll ping the directions to you and notify the rest of the team. They are slightly further away, so you and your partner should get there first. Hurry, Y/N, he might have another kid there."
"Bye, Pen." You hang up and start running to the SUV, surprised to see Hotch there, already waiting in the passenger seat. You wonder why he hadn't sat on the other side and remember about the key in your pocket.
Getting in, you slam the door, not bothering to buckle and say, "Take my phone and pull up the directions from Pen. That's where our guy is going, she think he has another child based on video footage from this morning's video feed of the back entrance of his office."
Hotch surprisingly doesn't argue, instead doing exactly as he was told while you sped in the direction you had come from before.
Withing ten minutes you had made it to the house, not saying a word to Hotch as your mind ran through all of the possibilities of what you'd find. This was your first child case since you moved to the BAU and honestly you weren't handling it very well.
When you made it to the barn, you snatched your gun from your holster and kept it aimed towards the ground. Motioning to Hotch you signal that he should go left and you will go right.
Clearly, he didn't like you making all the calls, but he was so upset about losing the guy the first time around that he didn't have it in him to command you down.
Beginning your move-in, you start to circle the barn just how you had told Hotch and kept your gun up as you crept towards the final turn to the back of the barn. Out of the corner of your eye you see the rest of the team start to jog over to the barn from the forest behind the bar, they must have decided to use a different entrance as hopes to catch O'Malley off guard.
Taking a moment to steel yourself you keep your back against the side of the barn before spinning in a quick step to raise your gun again and aim at the final possibility of where he could be-
But it was just Hotchner.
"L/N, he must be inside, turn back the way you came and we'll go in together." His voice is stern as you nod in compliance and turn around, raising your gun as you see a little boy. With a gun trained on him...
It's Joey. Joey is there dead in front of the church, a big cross burned into his chest... his five year old body.
That's all you see, just like that day so many years ago. That's all you see, so you jump forward in front of him and you-
Fall. You fall. And you can't tell why.
Blood, there's blood under you. Who's hurt?
"Y/N! Oh my God, Y/N!" Anything between your name being said the first and second time is lost in your fuzzy ears.
You don't realize why the voice is yelling at you until you feel the burning, fire-like pain, radiating up your left side.
After a moment, you feel hands on your shoulders, one of them moving to slap you in the face a few times to get your eyes to open, which they did.
"Hey, you need to stay awake. Okay? Y/N! Open your eyes. Look at me." Emily transfers her hands to your hip, pressing down on the wound there roughly. Your body instinctively crunches up to get away from the new, uncomfortable pain, but Emily presses down on your chest, keeping you to the floor.
You try to mumble something, but the second your mouth opens, it's as if you completely lost your voice.
"Shh, Y/N, you're going to be okay, you just need to keep your eyes open okay?
"What the hell, Aaron?! You were standing right there, man, why didn't you go to her?! She was fucking shot and you just stood there! You're our leader, start fucking acting like one!" You can't pick out all the words, but you can tell that it's Derek's voice and you smirk to yourself.
The last thing you heard before passing out was Derek ripping into Hotchner like you'd been waiting to for months.

Attitude adjustment
Yang:*bowing* I’m sorry.
Principal:Mrs. Xiao Long, this this third time your daughter has been apart of fight at school and I must make it clear there will not be a fourth. Any more incidents and she’ll be-
Yang:Expelled, I know. I just....*sigh* I’m trying everything over here. I worked things out with the other students’ parents where I’ll write apologies out and believe me when I say I am not happy about this whatsoever. All I’m asking is you don’t hold her back a year and give her extra time on the late assignment.
Teacher:And why would we give special treatment to the most problematic child in Menagerie? Surly you don’t believe Veronica Belladonna deserves special treat-
Yang:*claps hands together* Please......
Principal:......
Nine year old Veronica Belladonna sits in chair outside the office, kicking her feet. Her nose crinkles up along with the bandage on it from soreness. Annoying or not, her classmates were heavy handed like nobodies business. Yang finally walked out office, taking Veronica by the arm and dragging her away.
Veronica:Ow! That’s tight!
Yang:Good. Do you like me coming up here? Were daily phone calls from teachers about disruptive behavior not enough? Veronica they want you kicked out.
Veronica:Yeah I heard.
Yang:Then I expect you to act like that’s a big deal and shape up!
Veronica:I don’t give a damn!
Yang:Hey! Watch your fu- oooo don’t swear at me. Don’t swear at all! Work with me here.
Veronica:There’s nothing to work.
Yang:Kid, your attitude needs serious working on. I know that you know that you can not just go around picking fights and hurting people.
Veronica:And if they wanted a fight!?
Yang:Never give it to them. You know that.
Veronica:That’s unfair! It’s all their fault. Mom would understand! I want her right now!
Yang:Blake is working!
Veronica:Uuuuuugggggghhhhh!
Yang:Yeah well the feelings mutual right now. You know what, you’re grounded.
Veronica:For what!?
Yang:*red eyes* Fighting! For a week you will come straight home from school and go right to your room! No tv, free time, grandparents house-
Veronica:But grandpa and grandma were gonna teach me to surf!
Yang:Well I guess you’ll just have to learn another time. Learn to behave like a good girl before anything else.
Veronica:*tearing up*........I hate you.
Yang stopped dead in her tracks. She looked back to see Veronica in tears, her ears folded back and tail rigid. The girl kept tugging and struggling from Yang’s grip, all but flailing as a means to escape. Yang remembered being a kid. She remembered throwing tantrums so violent that it must’ve wore her dad out. She remembered saying she hated him too. Being on the opposite end, that really put things in perspective. Despite her best efforts, Yang could tell she was shedding a few tears.
Veronica stopped her struggles the moment a tear drop hit her hand. Suddenly, the fight in her left. Her ears dropped down with her tail. Now she had another reason to leave. Guilt. Her arm jerked as a reflex. What should’ve been in vain wasn’t. Veronica thought her words had made her mother loosen her grip. That was until she saw her wrist actually pass through Yang’s fingers. In shock, she looked at her mother in equal confusion.
Yang:.....Did you just....?
Veronica:Ma, I.....
Afraid of her own words, Veronica ran. She ran as fast as she could with tears blurring her vision. Yang watched in disbelief for a moment before running after her.
Yang:Veronica!
Veronica:Just leave me alone!
Yang:No! You just used your semblance!
Veronica:So what!?
Yang:We don’t know how it works! You could hurt yourself!
Veronica:Why would you care!? I said that I hated you!
Yang:And!? That’s a one way street. I don’t hate you, and I know you don’t actually hate me; even if you said it.
Veronica:You’re lying! I know you hate me. I’m different from you! Humans hate faunus! It doesn’t matter that I’m your daughter!
Yang:Who told you that!?
Veronica:The students!!!
Veronica wasn’t paying a attention and tripped into the road. Her eyes locked eyes with a cyclist struggling to stop. Veronica braced for impact when she suddenly felt Yang yank her out of the way and into her arms. The little girl was a little shaken. So much in fact that her nails slightly dug into Yang.
Veronica:Ma, I...I-
Yang:What else did they say to you?
Veronica:.......*shivering*
Veronica:Our family would fall apart, and you’d leave me. Because that’s what humans do. We don’t get along; you just pretend to love me. I said they were wrong, but they just kept pointing. Laughing at me. I....I knew they were lying but...I just can’t stop thinking about it! *hugging her* I don’t want you to hate me!
Yang:......
xxxxx
Teacher:*typing*
Yang:*opens door* Teach, let’s talk.
Teacher:Mrs. Xiao Long!? Why are you-
Yang:So is there any good reason when I was here the first time nothing was mentioned about the kids telling my daughter that her family will fall apart because I’m a human and I can’t love my kid?
Teacher:Wh-What!? I...I was unaware of-
Yang:Really!? Are you really about to tell me that in your own classroom, you had no clue what was said? Not a single clue? Because unless my daughter is a liar, which she isn’t, you didn’t do shit about it.
Teacher:That’s ridiculous!
Yang:That’s what I want believe too. Because you know, it’s one thing for a kid to act like a kid and say something stupid. It’s an entire different thing if an adult in charge heard such a thing and didn’t intervene because oh I don’t know, their not particularly fond of humans either?
Teacher:....
Yang:Now I know that can’t be the case since an adult in charge of creating safe spaces wouldn’t actively let their own bias affect children; especially the child of a human. If that adult did have problems then they would no doubt say it to that human’s face and not take out any grievances on a actual child, right? Unless they’re too pathetic and scared to be an actual adult?
Teacher:....Is there anything else you’d like to bring to my attention?
Yang:To you, no. But I’ll be sure to mention this possibility to your boss, and let the parents know I will not be sending apology letters and instead be notifying them on what went on in this classroom. Oh yeah, and I may or may not bring this up later tonight to my wife. You know, the activist?
Teacher:........
Yang:Still nothing to say huh? Fine by me. Actually, it’s also fine if you never speak to me or my daughter ever again; since you’re obviously so good at that. Don’t even bother with the assignments. I’m thinking it would be best if Veronica took a step back and we’ll find a different class for her. Maybe even a school? You just keep worrying about anything else. *walks away*
Teacher:.........This job is all I have.
Yang:Yeah, don’t give a damn. *closes door*
The blonde bruiser took a breath to calm herself down. She looked over to see her child still wiping her face. Without a second thought, Yang put Veronica back in her arms and kept walking
Yang:Did you hear all of that?
Veronica:Maybe.....
Yang:Good. Now you know just how serious I am about you. And look, I didn’t hit her once.
Veronica:You should’ve.
Yang:Oh I wanted to, believe me. But that does nothing but make more problems sometimes. Listen here, those kids were jerks. Still, I need you to try really hard to keep calm and if nobody around feels helpful, just remember you’re coming home to me and mommy. We’re always gonna raise a little hell for you. Hate to break it to you but you’re stuck with me. I’m not going anywhere. *kisses her cheek* Never.
Veronica:*sniffles* I’m sorry I made you cry.
Yang:I’m sorry I just got upset without letting you explain yourself. That was bad.
Veronica:We both need working on. Am I still grounded?
Yang:Hmmmmmm noooooo. Gods, I’m too soft. We need to find you a good outlet. How about you spend some time with me after surfing and I’ll teach ya some cool moves. Just in case you actually need to hit something. Sound good.
Veronica:*red* I guess we can spend time together. *purring* If you want to so badly.
Yang:Hehe, I love you.
Veronica:....I love you too.

Flowers can have different meanings depending on the flower shape, color, and method in which they are presented. Lilies are my favorite for such a simple flower can have so many distinct meanings.

When YN opened her eyes, she immediately recoiled with disgust. "Fuck." She jumped out of bed and searched through her bag until she found her suppressants. YN had long gotten used to the symptoms of preheat to know when to begin the medication. It made her feel strange, especially when her heat came but it was the lesser of two evils. Now that she lived with four alphas, and three betas, she didn't want to take any risks. Even if they were more than twenty feet away in their luxurious mansion. In her groggy state, she chugged two pills down and placed the carton, although threw is a better word, on her bedside table near her phone. Then she headed to the bathroom, ready to begin her day. It was the delicious smell of food that dragged her out of the bathroom ten minutes later, with a towel wrapped around her now clean body.
"Morning." Hoseok stood in the middle of the room with a plate of golden waffles, topped with strawberries and syrup. YN was so preoccupied with the sight of the food, that she failed to realize the predicament she was in. Until the alpha's darkening gaze reminded her of the state of undress she was in. "Um", YN held up her finger quickly gathering some clothes and rushing back into the bathroom to dress. Idiot. Why didn’t I sense him? That was worrying, even in her preheat state she should be able to sense another alpha near. When she exited the bathroom again, the plate of food was set down in the countertop of the small kitchenette. The alpha in question was seated in the corner of her bed.
“Sorry to intrude, but I figured you were hungry. Plus, I didn’t want you to feel uncomfortable given what happened last night.”
Right, last night had seemed to prove her worst fears true. Still, Jungkook’s behavior was bizarre. In all the time, YN had known him the alpha had never been so unstable. “What did happen last night?" Hoseok shrugged as if it was nothing out of the ordinary when their behavior had proved the opposite. "Jungkook gets a bit anxious around you. He still blames himself and hates that he screwed up to the point where you reject us." She already knew this, but that wasn't what had scared her last night. It was their reactions to it: how the men seemed so calm, yet quick to assert their dominance. How Namjoon's words had suddenly shifted the way Jungkook behaved.
Hoseok, seeing her discomfort, stood up and walked towards her cautiously. "YN," he placed his hand on her shoulder near where her mark was. The small action caused it to throb and she was sure he noticed. "I'm sure you're aware that alphas tend to butt heads. It's instinctual and Jungkook liked to test us often. We had told him not to bring it up, but we should've known better." YN remained silent. Not sure how to respond to Hoseok. Jungkook was a brat, that much was true, but he didn't seem like the instigator type. Maybe you don’t know him as well as you think you do.
"Sure, yeah. Whatever you say." Hoseok smiled, dropping his hand from her shoulder. "Eat your waffles before they get cold. Seokjin made them with lots of love." She couldn't help but grimace at the last part but Hoseok only chuckled. The man excused himself, waving goodbye and telling YN to call him if she needed anything. Reluctantly, she took a bite out of the waffles and it hurt her pride to admit they were good. So good in fact, that she had all but licked the plate clean in five minutes. After washing it, she headed straight for her bed. Disconnecting her charging phone from where it rested, YN failed to notice what was missing. Upon unlocking the screen, a plethora of messages greeted her.
The most worrying were the emails of all the aids that had been lost once they had been 'notified of her change in status.' It seems the world truly was out to get her. The money her parents gave her was barely enough for rent; how was she supposed to pay for insurance or anything else. I can’t do this anymore. A migraine was settling in, mixed with her preheat and ever-growing frustration at her situation - YN wanted to cry. Not that she would, but she really wanted to. Letting out a deep sigh, she turned towards her side. Casting a look outside the glass doors towards the house.
Out of all of them, Namjoon was the one she was closest to and even that was a relative term. She trusted him in a sense, he was the lead alpha and controlled all of them, but YN knew how flimsy Namjoon was to apply said power. Last night was one extreme but from what she could remember he tended to be lax with his mates. Entirely the opposite of most alphas, YN knew. Then again perhaps the incident had been a sobering moment for Namjoon. YN could only hope. She didn’t have his number, so it meant she would have no choice but to enter the house. Mustering all the strength she could, YN stood up and made her way towards the house.
Tumblr media
Namjoon's room was on the top floor, room was a bit of an understatement, as with the size of the manor YN had an inkling that the rooms resembled apartments. Namjoon's however was a full-on penthouse with what might be the largest bed she'd ever seen. Don’t even think about it. The man in question was seated in a large chair in the left-hand corner of the room, staring into a computer screen whilst on the phone. Their eyes met and Namjoon flashed her a quick smile before beckoning her into the room, signaling one of the chairs in front of the desk. YN may not have been able to sense Hoseok before, but this room reeked of Namjoon's woody, coniferous scent. She had been in the room for less than a minute but was sure the alpha's scent had already clung to her body. I’m going to have to shower again.
Namjoon was speaking far too low for YN to be able to pick up on anything he said, but from his tone, she could tell it was important. She sat down in one of the leather chairs and looked around the room trying to distract herself. The room was minimalistic in nature, most of the furniture either being made of wood or having wooden accents. Back in school, Namjoon had always been a fan of nature. The two of them had met briefly when helping tend the valley, but it wasn't until she had shared a class with him that they really bonded. It was like he had known her all his life, they way clicked, YN had never experienced anything like it.
Even back then, she had known he was mated. Pack bonds were rare and a pack bond with seven men - specifically four alphas - was the talk of the school. From what YN had heard through rumors, Namjoon presented at fourteen which was the first sign of anomalies. Still, YN had always seen him as more of a beta. He was far too kind, even if his kindness had only really extended to her among all of their classmates. Maybe he knew back then. There were old wives tales that said strong alpha’s could detect sub-gender’s before people presented, but that was mainly based on stereotyping.
“You’re in preheat.” The statement caught her off guard. YN whipped her head to find Namjoon off the phone, resting his face on his hands. A teasing smile on his lips.
           “How do you-”
“I can sense it. Are you? I have to know, wouldn’t want to be caught off guard.” There was something hidden in those words.
“Yes, but don’t worry. I have suppressants.” At her words, Namjoon’s brow raised slightly, but since the smile remained on his face YN ignored it.
Namjoon cleared his throat, straightening up. “I’m sorry about last night. We didn’t mean to scare you, things just got out of control. Jungkook can get a bit testy when he’s anxious and truthfully we should’ve known he would try something.” His words were the exact same as Hoseoks. Huh. YN forced a smile, “Don’t worry. Hoseok already explained things to me this morning. But, um, there’s something else I wanted to talk to you about.” His eyes were peering deeply as if trying to read her mind, YN cast her eyes downward to the desk.
“I hate to keep being a bother and I know that you guys have already helped me a lot.”
“YN, I told you already what's ours is yours. Whatever you want just say it.”
“I’ve lost all my benefits since under the eyes of the law, I’m mated.”
Namjoon crossed his arms, “Uh-huh.” From two syllabus YN could already garner the change in attitude. He knew where she was going with this, but wouldn’t offer her an easy way out. “I need those things in order to survive. I can’t afford to live on my own, even though I’m thankful for you allowing me to live here...I can’t do it forever.” Namjoon chuckled humorlessly, it reminded her of what she had witnessed last night. He muttered something under his breath, causing YN to meet his gaze. It was cold. Dark. Ravenous.
“I know what you’re asking of me, but I won’t do it.” YN opened her mouth to protest, but he held his hand up displaying that he wasn’t finished. Silencing her the way one might a child.
“The only way I can relinquish my claim on you would be if another alpha stepped up. Not only that, but you’d have to complete a mating bond with them. So, all your benefits would remain lost.” It was embarrassing, the condescending way that he spoke. YN was already aware of all this, but she couldn’t just give up. Couldn’t resign herself to an unfair life, simply because of what perceived was ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’ “Not to mention pack bonds are extremely rare, so even if I wanted to or you wished to - we might not be allowed to break our bond.” YN scoffed, “I’m not your mate. There has never been any record of an omega displaying a pack bond.” She was tired of the excuses. “I didn’t ask to be your mate. Nor do I want to. I didn’t consent to be bitten.”
“You consented to sharing your first heat with a newly presented alpha. Both of you were reckless.”
YN stood up the chair screeching loudly against the hardwood floor. “I know it was reckless. I know it was stupid. But I wasn’t thinking in the moment, just like he wasn’t thinking. It was all instinct.”
Namjoon ran his hands through his hair, jaw now locked and YN could see how tense he was. The pheromones were radiating off him and it wasn’t helping her preheat, not at all. “If you weren’t attracted to him you wouldn’t have accepted. Hell the partial bond wouldn’t have even occurred if you weren’t mates because it's physiologically impossible.” YN was feeling a whirlwind of emotions and felt herself losing control of her body. Namjoon’s stench was too much, she was practically choking on it but he either didn’t notice or didn’t care. “Please Namjoon.” The alpha shook his head, walking out from behind the desk and towards her. YN cowered, until his arms wrapped around her.
“Calm down. It’s okay, Lily. Calm down.” He pet her hair affectionately and YN found that she was able to breathe again, little by little. “Shush, it’s okay. I’m sorry I yelled. I promise to never do that again.” Slowly all the anger seemed to fade, as Namjoon held her against him. YN wasn’t sure how long the two of them stayed like that, but knew it must’ve been a while since her muscles were beginning to tense. Gently she pushed herself away from Namjoon, ending their embrace.
“Please YN. I know it’s been hard these past few years, but it’s been the same for us.” All the darkness was gone from his eyes, only warm chocolate remained. Namjoon eyed her mark as he spoke, “You were so close to us, but because of a mistake you were out of our grasps. It broke us.” YN shook her head, she no longer wanted to dwell on the subject. “I’ll stay Namjoon. I’ll stay, let’s just drop it for now.” This seemed to satisfy the alpha as he nodded and smiled once more. Tentatively Namjoon leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to YN’s forehead. It sent her body into a frenzy and almost triggered her heat.
“You’ve had such a long week. You should have fun, go out, relax a little.”
“Do you mean go on a date?”
“Sure, if you want to. Whatever you want, we’ll treat you to it.”
“A date with all of you?” YN was hesitant, not to mention everyone seemed on edge as of late. Especially her.
“No, not all of us. Hoseok and Taehyung can take you. They’ll behave.” It was the way he spoke that implied a reason to misbehave. There was mischief in Namjoon’s eyes and YN wasn’t in the mood nor the right physical state to find out the reason for it.
           “Alright.”
Tumblr media
YN would have rather not gone on the date, truthfully. However, if she had to choose...why couldn’t it be Jimin and Yoongi? It wasn’t that they weren’t threatening, but they seemed the least threatening. Especially compared to who she was actually going to be accompanied by.
“Ready to go?” Taehyung asked, holding his hand out. YN let out a breath she didn’t she was holding in, as she reluctantly placed her hand in his. Taehyung grinned in response, while Hoseok simply rolled his eyes at the younger. They walked side by side, until they reached the side entrance and left through their. Paying more attention now than she was when she arrived, YN noticed the camera’s. “I didn’t know you guys had cameras.” It was a casual comment, but she felt Taehyung tense slightly. Hoseok on the other hand remained calm as he turned to look at her, “We have a lot of precious things to protect.”
“So YN. Where do you want to go? Shopping? To a restaurant?” Taehyung was beaming with excitement and though the contrast between his personalities and looks should’ve unnerved her. It had the opposite effect.
           “Wherever you want.”
Hoseok leaned forward to whisper in the driver’s ear, then turned to them. “Let’s just go for a drive.”
It was a nice area where they lived, much nicer than her old neighborhood. Various mansions lined the streets, each standing out in their own unique way. They were nice to look at and YN thought that going for a walk around the area might be good sometimes. It was something she used to do when she was younger, before she presented. YN had to lean over the men sometimes to get a better look, she wasn’t aware of how close she was until Taehyung cleared his throat. When she turned to face him, they were mere inches separating them.
“Sorry,” YN mumbled and sat straight up in her seat. Her thoughts were beginning to grow hazy and she had less control over herself. This heat was going to be a strong one, but strong or not her pills should’ve been working. YN had tried to take more before the date, after her run in with Namjoon resulted in her needing to take a cold shower. The packet of pills, however, was nowhere to be found. She’d looked everywhere and was certain it had to be somewhere in her room.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Hoseok teased, out of all their scents, his was the nicest: warm, fresh, almost like a sunny day.
YN shook her head, “Just wondering, where we are going?”
“Wherever the road will take us.” Taehyung answered, not even bothering to look their way.
Not that it mattered, for it seemed YN and Hoseok were in a staring contest of sorts. Both of them drinking the other in with no intention of stopping. YN’s heart began to race and she cursed herself for not being able to resist the man. “What’s something you’ve always wanted to do?” Hoseok whispered, as if telling her a valuable secret. YN raked her brain for an answer, for an answer the man could possibly want. When she came empty handed, he pushed again. “Even if its something dumb or reckless. Promise I won’t laugh.” For that one moment, YN forgot all about her fears. Out went her dislike and frigidness, in its place was comfort.
“I always wanted to get a tattoo when I was younger.”
Taehyung interlaced his hand in hers drawing YN’s attention. His smile was Cheshire- like as he spoke, “Let’s do it.”
Tumblr media
“Maybe this wasn’t the smartest decision.”
         “Don’t be a wimp.”
         “It looks like it hurts.”
“It doesn’t. Stop trying to psych yourself out.”
“Taehyung enough,” Hoseok muttered as he looked over the forms once more. Confirming everything was right, he signed on the bottom and was quickly handed a copy. Now there was no backing out, though something did bother YN. “Won’t Namjoon be upset?” She hadn’t even realized what her asking that implied, but the men sure did pick up on it. Taehyung winked and Hoseok spoke with ease, “What they don’t know won’t hurt them.”
“So, what will it be?” The tattoo artist asked, finally back after giving you some time to look over his designs. “I'm not sure. Maybe something like this,” YN pointed to a fine line of two roses, “but with a different flower.” The artist nodded and then looked up at the alpha standing beside her, “Is that alright?”
“Whatever she wants.” Hoseok answered, not even looking up from his phone. Taehyung on the other hand was observing all the different tattoos and paintings hung on the wall. He seemed interested in them, so YN didn’t understand why he didn’t get one. The tattooist turned back to YN, “Alright, what flower do you have in mind?”
“You should do lilies.” Taehyung commented, not even bothering to look up from the photographs. YN frowned, “Lilies? Why lilies?”
“I mean you do kinda smell like lilies.” YN’s eyes widened at the artist’s statement and it seemed to have upset Taehyung and Hoseok. The latter emitting a low warning growl from his throat. “Uh- I meant no disrespect. At all.” The man looked terrified and YN went to say that it was alright, but Taehyung intercut.
“Just do your job and don’t make comments about my mate.”
“Of course,” The artist scrambled to get his supplies ready and signaled YN to get in the chair. She shot a look at Taehyung and Hoseok, but both returned to whatever they were doing. Once situated on the chair the artist asked where she wanted the tattoo. Without a second of though, YN signaled to her right collarbone just below where the bite was. It would be nice to be able to look at herself in the mirror and not instantly be reminded of the incident. Of the situation she was in. Pretty flowers might be a nice distraction.
“Is that alright?” The tattooist asked once more, his voice trembling slightly. Now Taehyung and Hoseok’s attention was fully on her, more specifically her bite mark. The men exchanged a look YN couldn’t decipher, but figured it would be best not to further push them. Especially given how they reacted to the tattooer’s words.
      “Whatever she wants.”
Tumblr media
“Leave that on for two hours and then you can shower. Try not to rub that area too harshly. Oh, also apply non humectant moisturizers on it for around a month. It should be good by then.”
YN nodded to all the instructions and thanked him once the job was done. Taehyung seemed excited to get home, even Hoseok seemed to be in lighter spirits. Once they were back in the car, it dawned on YN just how exhausted she was. Her limbs were trembling and she kept zoning in and out throughout the drive. Stupid preheat. YN’s head rested on Taehyung’s shoulder while her feet rested on Hoseok’s lap. She didn’t exactly know how she’d gotten in this position, but she wasn’t complaining.
      “We’re almost there.”
Taehyung brushed his fingers across her knuckles as if trying to lull her into actually falling asleep. What bit of her consciousness remained was struggling to keep her awake. When YN blinked, they had arrived home and Hoseok was helping her dismount the car. “Come on, sleepyhead.” Thankfully being on her feet, seemed to have given her the last bit of energy she needed to walk towards her room. YN bid goodbye to the men and closed the doors, going through her nightly routine half-asleep as she checked her messages.
Rosé: Hey, I have an appointment tomorrow to get a refill. Can you come with me?
YN: Sure.
Placing her phone on her nightstand, YN noticed her pills were there and decided to take two. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t be able to meet Rosé the next morning for YN’s heat struck that night.

Coup de foudre [ Kim Seokjin ]
Tumblr media
[pairing] - kim seokjin x you
[warning] - age gap (5 years), mentions of killing, stalking and a knife, yandere characteristics, sexual attraction (ever since reader was a teenager), NON CON
a/n: I’m not very confident in this, it might be all over the place.
He was on love with you ever since you were born, no exaggeration but literally.he was lucky enough to be the bestest hyung to your brother,.he easily paved his way into your life.
the love for you seemed to keep growing he was very well aware that it was wrong he should be seeing you as a sister for gods sake not some lover that he wanted to spend his life with.
he dodged his feelings for a while but the day you turned sixteen his instincts told him you were provoking him with the makeup and short skirts you started to wear.
he had already got off school a bit late than he was originally supposed to and was very well into college he had beautiful girls and guys coming after him but he pushed them all away for you just you a now nineteen year old girl.
he tried to forget you by getting into relationships that would never work.when someone even mentions your name he gets giddy when someone says something that’s not very suitable he shows them what hell looks like.
being the young adult you were you enjoyed life ;ike you had to.but someone thought that it was not right.someone who was not your parent or your very own brother.
“y/n!” you paused from plunging your earphones in and turned to the voice only to smile in pure happiness when you saw the face you frequently missed.
“seokjin oppa!” you ran to him and threw yourself onto him making him flinch back in surprise, he didn’t expect you to even remember him the last time you two saw each other was when you were probably fourteen.he only smiled and hugged you back proudly at the fact you hadn’t forgotten him.
“how are you cupcake? I haven’t seen you in four or was it five years?” you blushed at the childhood nickname and pouted only mere seconds after his mention of not meeting each other for a while.you mended with the strap of your bag.
‘I could just fuck you here’
“maybe we should hang out? I’m pretty free these days” do you like digging yourself a grave yard?
“jimin!” you yelled as you came back home after promising jin you’ll go to the movies with him the day after.your brother only raised his eyebrows, not bothering to pay any attention to your excited form.
“where were you?” he was your brother after all, you grabbed the remote and plopped next to him while switching the television on.
“I was with seokjin oppa” the moment these words left your lips jimin froze he thought he protected you but here you were saying you were with jin, the man who spent almost three years in jail after killing one of his very own friends.
he switched his phone off not minding to text his friend back. he turned to you who had no idea why jimin’s demeanor suddenly changed he gulped and tried put together words he thought would make sense and not bring any type of doubt.
“so what do you and hyung do?” he resisted the urge of showing disgust when he called him hyung.you looked at him and playfully scrunched your brows.
“why are you suddenly interested?” you inquired him as you turned your attention to him from the t.v.he resisted frowning or saying anything that would ruin all his hardwork.he smiled urging you to speak.
“we were going to watch a movie tomorrow, you can tag along if you want to” you suggested he only turned away dug his nails in his palm despite it being short it managed to draw the tiniest amount of blood.
“but why?” you whined as jimin continued to make breakfast for the both of you.
“I have to pick mom and dad up so you are staying home” what he was saying was ridiculous even he was aware.there was no reason for you to stay home this place was a high security area intruders here are impossible even if you had any the entire block would be notified of it.
“please jimin, I promised that i’ll go” jimin’s grip on the butter knife tightened as he kept spreading the jam.
“too bad” he sighed out as he grabbed a sandwich to leave to pick your parents from the airport.
you pouted knowing if jimin says something that’s final and you had no choice but to obey him.he grabbed his car keys and waved to you as he walked out.
you didn’t have enough guts to call jin and tell him about the situation you were in so you sent him a text four hours earlier to which he hasn’t replied making you drown deep in guilt and worry.
the sound of the doorbell made your thoughts scatter you looked at the time in the t.v which read 4:23 the trip to the airport takes two hours with the traffic it would be three so there was no way it was jimin and your parents.
opening the door you did not expect jin to be standing there smiling from ear to ear.you tucked a strand of hair behind your ear as you smiled back at him uneasily.
“how did you-”
“it was no hassle I knew you moved houses three years ago” he stated as he walked in without invitation you still moved aside and locked the door behind him.
it was almost nearing seven but your parents or jimin weren’t home yet.you were with jin the entire time watching netflix, eating and cracking jokes his appearance and his demeanor was so, so innocent. that you didn’t even have the littlest amount of idea of what he was and is capable of
“and then he-” before he could finish his story time that sounded so real your head fell against his broad shoulders he leaned over to you and brushed away the hair that fell over your closed lids.he smiled as he dipped down to press his plump lips on your forehead but his needs dragged his lips further down to your slightly parted ones.
the moment his lips joined with yours his sparks started flying, it was as if you two were meant to be as if you were molded for him just him.he deepened the kiss not minding if anyone walked in or if you even woke up he tried to add his tongue in the act but your movements weren’t complying.
he pulled away. the kiss was not enough he wanted more, more of you.he gulped as he slowly made you lay in the couch he focused on your face which was still deep in slumber.
he crawled on top of you and caged your fragile body with his thick thighs, he hovered above you and flashed a smile at the thought of finally succeeding in getting close to you in a way he always fantasized about
his face dropped to your neck as he smelled your scent smiling when he realized you still smell like vanilla .his lips hovered over your soft skin, moaning at the feeling of your skin he started making little marks, finally waking you up.
your eyes moved under the skin of your lid when your body was restricted of moving to a more comfortable you scrunched your brows and slowly opened your eyes only to get a whiff of the manly cologne and the view of the muscular body that you were getting familiar with.
“op-pa?” you called out to him which sounded more like a mewl to him. his already tightened grip on your waist tightened more as he sucked harder on your neck making you frown and try moving away.
he moved from your neck to your face again to get the better taste he wanted earlier, but the moment he saw your tear stained face and your form trying to push him away his heart broke.
he thought the feeling was flowing in both sides.
he held both your wrists in a grip making you slow down the tiniest.your whimpers toned down a little his nose came in contact with yours softly brushing it he smiled at the way you calmed down a little.
“oppa I don’t-” he silenced your nonsense with his lips again to which you responded by grappling around again,
bad kittens should be punished
your eyes widened when your face met with the couch’s leather, you turned to the man above you who was breathing extremely slow the stinging sensation in your cheek only got worse by the minute.
the emotion on his face read as if raising his hand was the right decision.your face moved to the side once again when he leaned closer.he hooked his index finger under your chin and made you face him with ease.
tussling around and pushing him away was acceptable (in the beginning) but spitting on his face was a big NO not now not ever.that was why you were being dragged to your own bedroom by your hair.
“you sick psycho!, you won’t get too far my brother-” jin snorted and chuckled as he continued dragging you.
“if your brother is alive he’ll come save you” he confirmed as his strides grew larger when he realized your room was near.you stopped breathing the moment he said that your eyes widend the same way your brother’s did a few hours ago when jin pulled his knife out.

Care For Me (Steve Rogers au) SugarDaddy!Steve
•part one•
An alternative universe where Steve isn’t an Avenger, but rather a CEO of one of the biggest companies in the US. His best friend and business partner Bucky secretly made him an account in an online dating site for sugar daddies and sugar babies, setting Steve up on a date with the only suitable sugar baby he thought was best for his best friend among the million others in his inbox.
It’s you. You’re the sugar baby.
Or,
Where reader is a med student who is badly in need of financial support and resorted to desperate measures by signing up to an online dating site with a little help from reader’s best friend, Nat.
Contains: natasha x reader moment (but platonic!)
A/N: thank you guys for the great reviews on the prologue! I hope you’ll enjoy this one as well! Tags are still open! x
Ps. I’m sorry it took so long for me to update, I’ve been really busy for finals and now that everything’s been put on hold, I can finally focus on this story!
Stay safe you guys! ❤️
•••
“Thanks again for the help, Nat. I’d probably be in the streets by now if you weren’t around.” You thanked before bringing your mug of hot tea to your salty lips. Why, it was because of your crying.
“No need to thank me, (Y/N). You know I’m always one call away.” Natasha replied with a wink, her fit physique sprawled out on her queen-sized bed. You both spent the previous hour gathering your things and bringing it over to your best friend’s house with a little help from her parents. You were like family to them, so when Mr. and Mrs. Romanoff found out that you’ve been kicked out of your apartment they were rushing to your aid in a heartbeat.
“You know, I could work a few extra hours and do some chores around here and help your mom.” You announced and shrugged. “Just a little way of saying thank you to them.”
Nat scoffed. “(Y/N), you could barely even last a week in a job because of your busy schedule in school. Plus, mom wouldn’t let you do that. She’d probably kill me if I let you do house chores.”
“But Nat, this is too much!” You sighed, putting down your mug on the bedside table and joining your best friend on the bed with a little flop, your body bouncing a little as you did so.
Nat sat up and looked you dead in the eyes, her hand hovering above yours. “You’re never too much for mom and dad. They know how hard med school is and they’ve known you since seventh grade! You’re like a second daughter to them!”
You could feel tears prick the corners of your eyes but refused to let them fall. You were tired of crying and you wanted to show your best friend that you’re strong.
“Thank you, Nat. For the millionth time. I could never say it enough because you’ve done so much for me these past few years.” Your voice broke. “You’ve been saving my life ever since.”
As much as you refused, the tears fell. But you weren’t the only one this time. As Natasha pulled you in for a hug, tears welled up in her eyes as well. It hurt her seeing you struggle and try to hide it from her. She knew that you’re strong; you have been ever since. But to see you break down in front of her didn’t fail to ache her own heart, too.
And you both stayed like that for several minutes. You both enjoyed the comforting silence, your best friend’s arms wrapped around you while you calmed yourself as your eyelids began to feel heavy. Just as you were about to doze off Nat jolted upwards and you flinched.
“Holy shit, I have the stupidest but brilliant idea.” She gasped out, her eyes wide and filled with excitement. The emotional, melodramatic feel in the air was gone and was soon replaced by Nat’s excitement.
“Stupid and brilliant? Nat what—“
“You should sign up for an online dating site.” She grinned as she pointed at you, your brows drawn together in confusion as you processed the words that left her mouth.
“Natasha, no. Dating is already heavy work. I don’t need to worry for another human being when I’m struggling to take care of myself and my studies. So no, thank you.”
She rolled her eyes. “You don’t have to worry too much in this kind of relationship, (Y/N).”
Your confusion grew.
“Because he’s gonna take care of you.”
You watched as she took out her laptop and opened it enthusiastically, her fingers running smoothly across the keyboard with each letter she typed until she turned it around so the screen was facing you.
“Sweet as Sugar Online Dating Site.” You read. “Where you’ll find just the right amount of sweetness you look for in a sugar baby/sugar daddy/sugar mommy. Over 1,000,000+ users. Sign up now!”
“Sign up now!” Natasha repeated, an overanimated grin across her lips as she watched your shocked face.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me!”
“Oh, come on! I know what you’re thinking,” she giggled as she turned the laptop to her again and began typing. “Whenever you think of a sugar daddy, what comes to mind is an old, fat man with a boatload of cash. But! With this site, you can fill up a form asking what you want in a sugar daddy.”
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing right now.
“Come, I’ll show you!” She exclaimed as she patted the space next to her. You shook your head in disbelief as you made your way next to your best friend, watching her fill up your biodata in the pink and purple themed website.
“Nat you can’t be serious.” You tried to laugh, but it came out more of a whine. Natasha ignored you and continued to fill out the form, confident that she knew just what to fill in about yourself.
“Okay, display photo. I think I have a couple of good ones of you saved on my laptop.”
She then proceeded to scroll through her library, pictures of the both of you coming to view from past moments—birthdays, Christmas, school events, and just about everything you’ve shared with your best friend.
She finally decided on a portrait of you, a picture she took just last year when you both went on a vacation in Malibu. You were wearing a white off-shoulder dress, looking away from the camera as you laughed shyly, one hand holding on to your beach hat and the other holding down the hem of your dress to keep the wind from lifting the skirt up.
“Oooh, I like this one! It’s a subtle look, yet it shows your side-profile. Daddies would love to see more of you just from this picture!” She exclaimed, pressing on the photo and it only took several seconds before your portrait was uploaded on the site.
“Nat, this is ridiculous.” You groaned out, leaning back against the headboard as you imagined yourself dating someone ten years older than you, or someone twice your age. It’s not that you were against people in relationships that have big age gaps; you just couldn’t imagine yourself being in one, considering the fact that you were awkward and shy and downright busy.
“Not until you fill up this form.” She returned, putting the laptop on your lap and in front of you was a form asking you what you liked in a person, your preferred age, what type of relationship, the like.
“Dude, you could literally just put 5-years older as your preferred age and it would give you a shitload of results!” Natasha added. “Come on, please? If you can’t find someone you think is suitable for you, then it’s fine. We could delete your account and just drop it off. I just thought we’d give it a go, because you kinda need someone to fill your empty heart as well.”
The teasing grin on her lips made you roll your eyes. “One, my heart isn’t empty. I have you and your family in here. Two, your idea is weird and crazy. And three,”
You looked down on the screen and bit your lip, bracing yourself for what you were about to say next.
“I’m gonna sign up. For you.”
What do you look for in a sugar mommy/daddy?
Someone who can provide for me financially while I study in medical school.
How old is your preferred age?
5 years older than me. No more than that.
What are your hobbies?
Eating, cooking, reading books, watching movies, sleeping
What are your likes and dislikes?
I really love pizza. I like staying up at night, and I really really love stargazing. I also love books and coffee shops. They’re my favorite.
I don’t have many dislikes though, I just hate surprise tests and cramming for exams. I also don’t like being bothered with when I’m studying.

Thank you! Your account will be set up in a few minutes. Please wait.
“Holy shit I’m really doing this Nat.” You gasped as you watched a buffering circle indicating that your account was currently being created.
Natasha cackled next to you. “So you’d like a live-in partner, huh?”
You rolled your eyes. “It could be helpful considering my situation right now.”
A ‘ping!’ sounded from the laptop and it notified that your account has been officially made. You were then directed to a new page. It was your very own profile page, showing your display photo and name at the top, and everything that you answered a while ago followed just below your name. Next to your display photo showed the number of followers and people you’re following, and the topmost right of the page was a white envelope, serving as your inbox.
“Wow,” you breathed out. “That was fast.”
“Okay!” Nat exclaimed enthusiastically. “Now all we have to do is wait!”
You groaned out as Nat took the laptop from your lap and you stretched your legs out, slightly tense from being curled in your recent position. You were starting to feel sleepy, so you decided to push yourself even lower on the bed until your head hit the soft pillow perfectly.
“I don’t know about you, but I think I’ll check on that tomorrow. I’m getting tired.” You announced as you yawned and stretched your arms out, one hand hitting your best friend on the cheek.
“Yeah, okay. We can check this out tomorrow. Tomorrow’s Sunday anyway.” Natasha agreed as she closed her laptop and put it on her bedside table, turning the lamp off in the process.
“Good night, Nat.”
“Good night sugar baby.”
...
Bucky arrived at his condominium, ignoring calls from his best friend. After he suddenly left lunch leaving Steve confused, the man wouldn’t stop calling him and sending him messages. He plopped down his velvet couch, grabbing his laptop that lay untouched on the coffee table, turning it on and became eager to open a website. He learned about this new website when he overheard a co-worker of his talking to another co-worker about some site for sugar babies. He instantly became curious, wanting to see how legit it was and before he knew it he found himself creating an account for his own.
He wants to help his best friend so bad. Steve has been too unyielding and bloody-minded. He doesn’t even try to put an effort when he’s been set up with dates, leaving women sad and disappointed. All Steve needed was the right woman to get him back in the game.
And this website just might help.
He began creating another account, filling in Steve’s biodata without hesitation. He chose a display picture that would surely catch girls’ attention. It was the one where he was invited to a grand opening of a new company owned by a few famous people and paparazzi were there, taking all Steve’s good angles and Bucky had saved one where he loved the most. He wore a suit and his hair was slicked back, his striking blue eyes gleaming in the light and a hint of pink lips protruding from his thick beard.
Once the account has been finally created and ready for matchmaking, Bucky began his search for eligible women that would be just right for his best friend.
...two hours later...
Hopeless. Bucky was beginning to feel so hopeless. Sure, he’s already come across countless of beautiful women but when he read their whole profile he began to hesitate. He wanted a girl that even he would certainly say yes to for his best friend, knowing that Steve Rogers was one picky man.
Just when he was in the verge of tears and about to give up, one girl caught his eye.
She was in the beach, laughing shyly and looking away from the camera, a hand holding on to her off-shoulder dress and the other keeping her beach hat from flying away.
She’s perfect.
She seemed shy and innocent and downright adorable; she’d be perfect for Steve’s dominant and stern facade.
Bucky was quick to send her a message.
Hi :) would you like to meet up sometime? I’m not much of a chatting-type of guy and I’d rather get to know you better in person. How about over a cup of coffee? x
That sounded a bit rushed. But Bucky just cannot wait any longer. He’s just going to hope that this girl knows the ever famous Steve Rogers and would instantly say yes.

The Great Dying
https://open.spotify.com/track/54JQyG5989fTgqmTfIl27b?si=425abd670a2c4d3a
Lyra stared blankly at her parents in the doorway of her room for several seconds while she spooled down the content streams in her vision. "Wait," she mumbled before blinking and then turning her body toward them. "What did you say?" "We have something important to tell you dear," said her mom. "Uh, is this good news or bad?" "It's good news, listen..." her father started in. "Your mom and I have been saving up for a long time. When we started, we thought we'd buy a house or send you to school, but something more important has come up." "What could possibly be more important than a house?" she asked, squinting. He paused, only briefly, but it was enough to know she wasn't wrong. "Well, my co-resonant at work told me there's a new program at the Academy. He said they're only accepting people who are..." he said, glancing at the the floor-to-ceiling stacks of cold data storage lining most of one wall of my room. Dad corrected himself, "...people who have extensive experience in memory casting." "Dad, I'm not famous," Lyra said, shaking her head. "I don't even have a thousand subscribers." "They're not looking for famous people, sweet heart," her mom added quickly. "Exactly, he told me about this because his son is in the top 500 and still got passed over. They only want people who have been doing it since before the Boundary was turned on." "What? Why?" Lyra asked with a confused look. "I don't know but I want you to try this," he said. "I think you might actually have a shot. You're way ahead of the curve; you always have been." "Dad, my content is actual garbage. They're not going to be interested in me. How does this involve money again? Why do I feel like you did something stupid?" Lyra asked, getting more impatient with each question. "Honey... you can't just-" "I'll do whatever I want, mom." "Lyra, stop. I need you to take this seriously," her dad said. Lyra noticed his hand trembling and did a poor job hiding her concern as she turned back toward her data tower and then just stared up at the ceiling, knowing it would be too rude to tune them out. "Okay, fine. What did you do?" "I... paid an administrative fee to have your application expedited and put into the current pool." Lyra groaned loudly. "You bribed them to get me in? And what about when I show back up on your doorstep after being kicked out?" "I promise nobody will find out about this," her father insisted. "I took care of it, and it doesn't matter if you fail. Your mother and I will always love you and just... this might actually be a chance to get you out of here. You know how bad the odds are. It's like ninety nine percent of all people born outside of-" "I know- stop. I don't want you parroting their stupid ads at me," Lyra said while cutting him off. "When is this happening again?" "Tomorrow morning," he said in a grave tone, looking down at the floor and then to his wife. "Sweetie, don't worry about packing. They'll provide clothes and everything you need there but they did recommend bringing one or two personal sets of clothes just in case. You don't even need to bring a toothbrush!" her mom started to explain. Lyra just tuned her out and relaxed backward into her chair. She closed her eyes and placed both palms over them to get rid of all the light. "Okay, fine. Then leave me alone for the rest of the night so I can mentally prepare for this shit storm you just handed me." To her surprise, her dad actually said okay, and then apologized. She cracked her fingers to peek at them and saw them turning to leave. Lyra cursed at the door as soon as it closed and immediately maximized her streams. Her loopback recorder clicked and notified her that one of her data stores had filled up and she was now down to just a single empty drive. The memory of the conversation with her parents blinked and the system asked if she wanted to commit the newly filled block to cold storage. She nodded, triggering her user agent to go ahead and carry out the task of compressing and storing her memories. They would later get spooled out into one of her projections and serve as content for her subscribers after she had scrubbed any private details like the bribe. "YO- V, are you there?" a voice picked up in her ear from one of her back channels. "What?" she asked flatly. Lyra wasn't in the mood to talk with Josh right now and it made her feel guilty. She knew she should tell him that she might be offline for a while. "Don't you 'what' me. Check this out, dude. Someone got Old Nothing to speak and brought back a speely." Lyra suddenly forgot about the situation with her parents and she jumped to her feet, barely holding back a surprised shout. "HOW?" she asked, quickly flipping through the top 500 for commentary. A hyperlink blipped into view from Josh and she clicked on it, pulling up camera footage from a drone within the Bounds. "Shhhh, listen..." Josh said in a hushed voice. The audio was mangled and it took Lyra a moment to realize what was going on. On the screen a picture was slowly zooming in until she could make out the figures of an old man and a boy standing in the desert, talking to each other. The drone was listening in from a long-distance microphone but it sounded like people talking underwater in slow motion. Every ten seconds the drone would speed up and then re-play the audio from the last ten seconds at normal speed. At this distance the drone was about three times faster than the duo. "What did you say?" the old man asked in a voice that cracked and then rasped from years of going unused. "Thank you," the boy said. Lyra squinted and tried to make out the boy's face but it was obscured by a haze of privacy filters. "Josh, who is that? Did anyone get a look at him?" Lyra asked to her back channel. "Nobody knows but those two. By the time the drones caught sight of this kid he was already a quarter of the way out. That kid cloaked all the way to-" he said and then shut up as the feed continued to play. "For what?" Old Nothing asked the boy. His back was to the drone like with most footage and draped over his frame were fraying, tattered robes once brown but now gone green through generations of wear. "For showing me the way," the boy replied. "I brought something for you." "I do not need anything," the old man said. "I know, you need nothing. This isn't something you need though," the boy insisted. Deafening silence for ten seconds after that, but it must have only been a brief pause for the two of them, no more than a couple seconds. The boy reached into his bag and Lyra's chair creaked as her body leaned forward in anticipation. "Here," the boy said, producing a shiny, reflective cube about the size of his own fist. "It has everyone." "Everybody?" asked the old man, sounding the faintest bit like he was just humoring the kid. "Yes. Please, take us with you." "Are you sure?" asked the old one. "We are sure," the boy replied quietly. He was holding the cube out still as he dropped to his knees, staring up and pleading with the old man silently to not turn down his sacrifice. "Thank you," Old Nothing said, accepting the cube and placing it into some unknown pocket in his robes. He had barely moved more than few inches in any direction since he stopped walking, appearing to be completely still most of the time. Next to the boy it looked unnatural, like he was a statue. After another short pause, the old man continued walking and fixed his eyes once more upon the Singularity at the center of their world. It hung like a black sun in the sky above them, wrapping everything and everyone within its event horizon. The boy waited for several footfalls and then let his arms drop to his sides with a sigh. He didn't bother looking over his shoulder at Old Nothing, instead he looked straight up into the drone's camera. Lyra felt the pit of her stomach drop out. The boy's face was a continuously morphing average of features, each one fleeting and false as the privacy filter kept the drone from seeing who he truly was. There was still enough detail to make out a smile. "You know you're on there," the boy said, backing up slowly in the same direction Old Nothing was walking, toward the center. "All of you are."

Buried Secrets Two
Parts: [ 1, Here, 3 ]
Summary: [Name], knowing she and John are in danger, runs to the babysitter’s house to get John back to safety. She also gives the nice babysitter money to go out of the country. Then [Name] is in a stolen car wondering where and who to go for help. She reluctantly goes to the Titans. Although plans don’t go as planned. Dick tells the truth to the Titans and they figure out a plan to stop Deathstroke once and for all. Deathstroke has unfortunate news for [Name].
Pairing: Dick Grayson x Female! Reader
Genre: Slight Angst
Word Count: 3k
WARNINGS: Blood
Tumblr media
“Wait, Ms. [L.Name], why are you suddenly leaving? Also you’re bleeding,” Samantha, John’s babysitter, had ran behind [Name]. The young teen was not understanding why she was given two grand for only taking care of John for a night.
[Name] held John closer to her body and noticed that he was going to cry soon. She set John down in a carrier then grabbed Samantha by her shoulders, “Look, sweetie, use the money to finally go to South Korea. Didn’t you say you always wanted to go there?”
“Y-yeah, but I can’t leave without notifying my parents. I’m just a sophomore in high school,” Samantha gave [Name] a weird look.
[Name] cursed under her breath and grabbed four grand from a duffel bag, “Here use this to bring your parents with you. Just get out of town, no, the country.”
“Why? What’s going on?” Samantha didn’t know when to stop asking questions and it was annoying the older female to no end. [Name] zipped up the duffel bag and grabbed the handle of John’s carrier. She walked over to the front door and zoomed over to her car that she stole. She opened the backseat car door and strapped John into a car seat.
John began crying now and [Name] closed the door after she stuffed her bags next to John. “Listen carefully, Samantha. Bad people are after me and they might use you to find me which is why you need to leave. Because they’ll only bring harm to you and your family for no reason.”
Samantha’s blue eyes widened, “Bad people like murderers?”
“Worst. Now call your parents and I’ll tell them what to do.”
……
[Name] looked at her phone and typed the address to the Titan’s Tower. Her fingers froze and she let her thumb hover over the start button. Deathstroke said that Dick brought the Titans back together. But she couldn’t bring herself to believe him. Deathstroke isn’t known to be a liar, manipulative, yes. If Dick really did bring the Titans back even their old friends, why didn’t he contact her?
“Ma...ma,” John whined in the back seat, his little feet kicking the air,
[Name] should feel grateful that Dick didn’t call her. It would be awkward to see him. It would be awkward to see them all and John, what would they think? Did Dick tell them about John? Her [e.color] eyes looked at the rearview mirror. She watched as John babbled in his spot. Drool dripping down his chin.
She worried for her son. [Name] promised herself she wouldn’t go back to being a hero. That was in the past and it was going to stay there because she didn’t want her son getting hurt or worse. He was too young to die. He’s just a baby.
“Starting route to Titan’s Tower,”
This was her only chance to keep him safe. They were her family once and John could be a part of it.
……
“Dick, come on, man, wake up”
“What happened to the three of them?”
“Do you think they all just passed out here like idiots cause I do.”
“Hank, no.”
Dick groaned and opened his eyes to see Rachel and Gar waking up as well. His brown eyes observing the two teens that laid on each other.
“Ugh, what happened?” Gar asked rubbing his head with his eyes adjusting to the bright light from Jason’s phone.
“They seem fine. Maybe they had a sleepover without us” Jason said and Hank chuckled at his remark. Jason turned his phone light off and backed away to give the trio space.
Rachel removed herself off of Gar’s body with a slight blush apparent. She sat on her knees and rubbed her hands on her thighs. [Name] was on her way. “Did you guys see what I saw?” Rachel asked the two males who were affected by her power.
Gar nodded his head, “Yeah it was strange. It was like I was next to her when she was fighting Deathstroke and Dr. Light. It was so weird, I couldn’t do anything for her.”
“Shit,” Dick cursed under his breath and jumped to his feet. He needed to go to the computer. He needed to see how far she was away from the tower. Dick ran out of the kitchen with everyone following him with questioning gazes.
Donna was the first to reach him, “Whoa, Dick, slow down. Wanna tell us what’s going on?” The Wonder Girl looking at her friends for some help to get Dick to spill. They stayed quiet and watched him type on the keyboard. His fingers going at a crazy rate.
“Searching for [Name] [L.Name]...”
Hank stepped up to Dick with his hand placed on his head, “Hold up, why are you looking for [Name]? Is everything okay with her?”
“No,” Rachel spoke up, “My power, it allowed me to see that she was in danger. She was fighting Deathstroke and Dr. Light all by herself.”
“She blew her own home up, it was crazy and she has telekinesis!” Gar exclaimed pulling at his hair. He never saw such a powerful person with a cool ability. Dick tapped his foot impatiently waiting for the computer to give him results and it was painfully slow. His family was in danger. Can he call them his family? He hasn’t seen them in three years. Every time he wanted to contact [Name], he got cold feet.
“Dick, you got to tell us what is going on,” Dawn set her hand onto his shoulder. He looked behind him and they were all staring at him. Their eyes boring into him to tell them the truth. He took a deep breath in and pushed away from the computer.
“I haven’t been honest with you guys,” Dick crossed his arms over his chest, “the only ones that know this secret is Bruce and Alfred. Even if I told you a long time ago what had happened between [Name] and I, I don’t think it’s your business in the first place.”
Hank glared at him, “Now it is.”
“Yes,” Dick nodded his head, “Because they’re in danger.”
Dawn tilted her head in confusion and Donna spoke up, “They’re? Someone else is with [Name]?” The two women had no idea what was going on and neither did the rest. Dick was being hesitant and he took a long time to explain what was going on. He bit his lip and chewed on it. Rachel and Gar looked at each other wondering if they should help Dick with telling the truth.
“It’s not easy to say this,” Dick admitted with his head low in defeat. He had to tell them anyways because [Name] was going to show up to Titan’s Tower eventually. “[Name] and I...we have a son. He’s two years old and-”
“No fucking way,” An unexpected voice cut through and it was Rose Wilson, Deathstroke’s daughter. “You had a secret child and you didn’t bother to tell your teammates. What other secrets are you keeping?”
“None,” Dick said with a sharp tone.
Dawn removed her hand off of Dick’s shoulder, “Why didn’t you tell us? We’re your friends.”
“It’s because it was none of our business,” Hank bellowed, “obviously we weren't good enough friends for him to confide in us.” Dawn looked over her shoulder at Hank. Their eyes connected.
Bzzt. Bzzt. Bzzt.
It was the front entrance. Someone was there and it was definitely [Name]. It had to be. Although when the camera footage popped up on the computer screen, no one was visible. Suddenly, they all heard the elevator dinging. Dick was the first one to investigate. They all waited in the main room to see the elevator doors opening.
What they saw made their hearts churn especially Dick’s. His eyes couldn’t believe what they were seeing. In the middle of the elevator was a bassinet with a crying baby in it and a woman bloodied and beaten holding tightly onto the bassinet. Dick reacted quicker than the others and immediately ran inside the elevator. His hands flying to the woman’s face.
Her nose was bleeding and her eyes were barely open. It was like she was trying to stay awake, but her body was forcing herself to sleep. Her breaths were shallow and her hands gripped tightly around the bassinet. She opened her mouth, blood coating her teeth, “Take care of him, okay?” Her head felt lighter in his hands and he understood.
“[Name],” Dick called softly tears brimming, “you’re not here, are you?”
She gave him a smile and her body disappeared right in front of him in red waves. The old titans rushed into the elevator and looked down at Dick kneeling in a fetal position. Then he looked up from the spot where [Name] had once laid in. Letting his anger out, Dick punched the elevator wall in front of him, “Goddammit!”
“W-wait, I don’t understand,“ Gar spoke up trying to see in the elevator, “[Name] was just here. What happened to her body?” The green haired thought of the worst. He thought she had died. Donna looked at the teens and pushed them away from the elevator telling them that the adults would handle this.
Dawn knelt down beside Dick, “Come on, Dick. We’re going to find her, but right now your son needs you.” Dick wiped his tears away and picked up the bassinet with shaky hands. Hank stopped Dick from exiting the elevator, “I can hold him...if you want.”
Dick shook his head, “Thank you, but I got him.” For the first time in a long time, Dick was with his son again. Yet he wished the circumstances were better.
……
“Alright an hour later, John is finally sleeping,” Dawn and Donna walked back into the main room where everybody sat in or around the kitchen. Dick gave them a grateful nod and focused his attention back on the wall.
“So is anyone going to explain what happened to [Name],” Gar asked very curious why the woman disappeared in the elevator.
Jason tossed a piece of popcorn into his mouth, “It’s because of her ability.”
The old titans gave him questioning glares.
“What? Bruce had me study potential allies and [Name] was one of them. According to what she knows, she has the ability to warp reality and teleport. Well that’s not all she can do, but it’s what she used in this situation. My guess is she used teleportation and put little John in the elevator before Deathstroke could get to him.”
“So her body was just her warping reality?” Rachel asked.
Rose shrugged her shoulders, “If she could teleport, why didn’t she do the same for herself?”
“Because she hasn’t used her powers in a long time ever since John was born. She didn’t want to risk him getting injured.” Dick answered. His brown eyes were directed to the floor in thought. [Name] was in danger and in the hands of Deathstroke. His second worst enemy.
Rachel slid off the kitchen counter, "Well, aren't we going to save her? Isn't that what the Titans do?"
Dick looked at Rachel and shook his head. He wasn't going to allow his new recruits, his friends, get involved with Deathstroke. He won't allow another young soul die at his hands. "No, you guys will stay here and keep watch on John."
"Great," Jason groaned, "you're putting us on babysitting duty while you guys fight a known villain. He's your son, how about you spend time with him for once?"
Dick growled, "Don't go there."
"Or what?" Jason challenged stepping up to Dick. The teen with black hair was beginning to push Dick's buttons. And they weren't supposed to be bothered with. "I say you sit this one out, Dick. Let us handle the bad guys for once."
"No," Dick said firmly. He was standing his ground. The presence of the new Robin didn't scare him nor did he tremble. "Deathstroke is mine. Now stand down or I'll put you on probationary timeout."
Jason scoffed and turned his back on Dick muttering a few curses. The old Titans walked up to Dick and they formed a tiny circle ready to discuss their plans on how to get [Name] back to safety.
……
“A caring mother, you are,” Deathstroke talked to [Name], sitting directly across from her. Their knees almost touching each other. “I could have promised not to lay a finger on your son, but you made things more difficult for you.”
[Name] swallowed down the blood from her mouth. The taste of iron bothering her taste buds. “I won’t allow my son to get hurt because you have a personal vendetta for his father.”
“You speak as if Grayson holds no meaning to your heart, is it true you two had a falling out?” Deathstroke asked with a tilt of his head.
You can say that,” [Name] responded looking away from him. She wasn’t going to speak about her relationship problems with a psycho like Deathstroke. Her business was her business. This wasn’t a therapy session among a hero and villain.
“Huh, always thought you two were good for each other.”
“Ah, good one. An attempt of sarcasm by the one and only Deathstroke.” [Name] replied to his remark. Her right eye closed upon feeling the warm liquid that was blood drip down it. She forgot that she was hurting while chained to the chair in special handcuffs. Deathstroke’s presence didn’t allow her to relax. He forced her to be on the edge.
“Why don’t you use your powers, [Name]?” Deathstroke looked at her crossing his arms over his chest. She got him thinking. She needed him to think of the consequences he’ll reap.
The blood dripped onto her clothing in a slow rhythm. “I don’t know maybe because you got a hold of Cadmus’ tech. Did you steal them or actually request for them, I’m really curious.” She wiped her chin with her shoulder and sighed. [Name] didn’t like waiting and she hoped the Titans could find her. But it was nearly impossible especially if Deathstroke is good at covering steps and going off grid. It was his specialty.
“I made a bargain with them,” Deathstroke began ominously, “I give them you in exchange for the Titans.”
[Name] was puzzled. “Cadmus doesn’t have the Titans, you only put yourself in a situation which can’t happen because-”
“I hand you over to them now and they could experiment on you. Then they’ll send out their people and get the Titans for me. It’s an easy trade off.”
“I thought you wanted Dick for yourself. Why not get revenge by you doing what you do best. You’re a killer, Deathstroke. Blinded by your rage toward Dick and vice versa, you two killed an innocent boy. A boy I was beginning to love in my own way. A boy Dick took advantage of. A boy who was your dearest son. Why continue this vengeance and for what reason?”
“You are to blame for my son’s death. You allowed Grayson to let Jericho into the Titan life knowing who his father was. Who I was.” [Name] could feel the anger radiating off of his body with each sentence. “Yet you and the Titans didn’t stop Dick from coercing Jericho. You killed him.”
[Name] shook her head, “No, I left the Titans before Jericho died. I only heard about his passing from Dawn, Dick didn’t tell me the truth until I came back and threatened to search his memories.” She paused and softened her glare, “Slade, I’m really sorry about Jericho. He was a wonderful boy and he could have made a great man.”
Deathstroke uncrossed his arms and leaned closely to [Name]. He placed his right knee in between her legs and let his right hand hold the chair. His left hand wiped the blood away from her eye so she could look up at him with both of her [e.color] eyes. “You will be when I make you feel the pain my wife and I went through.”
[Name] knew exactly what he meant. His words struck her heart and her blood ran cold. "No, please, he's just a baby," Her voice was soft and fragile. Her eyes pooling with unshed tears of sadness.
Deathstroke gripped her chin tightly with his fingers.
"I'm begging you, Slade," [Name] was crying now. Her eyes closed as she cried for what Deathstroke was planning. She opened them up and begged again, "Please, don't go after my boy. He's innocent and he would never hurt anyone. Slade, please."
He removed himself from her and began walking away from her in silence.
[Name] struggled in her bonds. Her feet pushing against the floor and her chair tilted sideways. The weight of her body made herself and the chair fall on their left side. Her body ached, but that didn't stop her from calling out to him, "Leave him alone! Please!"
Dr. Light popped into the room and watched as the mother cried out to Deathstroke. Feeling a little remorse for her, he questioned the man who wiped his sword with a white rag. "You aren't really going after the baby, are you?"
"Does it matter to you?" Deathstroke placed his sword back into its sheath. He turned his body to Dr. Light waiting patiently for an answer.
Dr. Light nodded his head, "You said that she and the baby would only be bait for the Titans. All I want is the Titans, not for us to kill some kid."
"And all I want is revenge." Deathstroke finished and walked out of the room.
"Don't do this!" Dr. Light cringed at the hoarse yells coming out of [Name]'s mouth and he turned his attention back on the woman. She was lying helplessly on the floor with tears sliding down her face.
He wasn't supposed to do this.
“Alright, calm down, will ya?” Dr. Light ran over to [Name] and lifted her chair upright. She sniffled and brought her red eyes onto the villain. “Don’t look at me like that. I cross lines, sure. But killing a kid, that’s not for me...yet.”
That didn’t make [Name] feel any better.
“I mean a kid that hasn’t done any wrong to me. Fuck the Titans though, am I right?” Dr. Light chuckled and looked at the special handcuffs on her hands. He didn’t know how to take these off. “This is gonna sound awkward, lady. But I can’t take these handcuffs off you, only that bastard can.”
“That’s fine,” [Name] finally spoke up and her eyes were a bright red along with her hands, “all I need is you.”

It Started with a Blizzard - 1/? | westallen fanfiction
A/N: Sequel to Blizzard in July (I just liked that as a two-shot too much to continue it with another chap). Commissioned by @jennlee44.
Enjoy!
*Many thanks to @valeriemperez for beta’ing.

Chapter 1 -
Not a fleck of snow in the air or on the ground since take-off, the plane ride was smooth and comfortable for all the passengers. It improved the mood of even the grumpiest passenger, who had been perturbed by last night’s blizzard delaying flights. That probably would’ve been Iris had she not run into Barry – and spent the night with him. That had a way of slowing things down and even being grateful for a delayed plane ride to a meeting she didn’t really want to go to anyway.
Barry, on the other hand, was still trying to process how lucky his night had turned out to be. Of course, he was sad to have missed his mother’s birthday party, but he’d texted her to explain his delay, and she’d understood. He would stop by his parents’ house first thing after the plane landed.
But Iris…
Well, Iris was a complication he wasn’t quite sure what to do with.
He didn’t want her out of his sight. That much was certain. He’d told her he thought what they had would definitely go somewhere, and he’d meant it, but once they landed, reality outside the blizzard, outside the airport and the hotel room, and hell, out of the bed, was very uncertain.
He didn’t know if Iris lived in Central City. He guessed she didn’t if she was flying there. He didn’t live in Central City either, but he planned to stay the week at his parents’ place, since he hadn’t seen them in a while.
What happened once they both got their luggage from the baggage claim and exited the airport doors?
He hadn’t even asked what the situation was with her meeting. There had to still be one if she had gotten on the same plane as him, right?
He was overthinking, and he knew it, but he couldn’t help it. His dream girl had unexpectedly been at the airport the same time as him, in the same place, in front of the same gate, planning to go on the same plane, and – once drunk, had dragged him into a bathroom and made love to him.
Made love?
Okay, maybe that time it had been the booze talking. But when they reached their hotel room and landed on the bed together, and oh, yeah – when he halted the sex to tell her he had a crush on her in high school and she said she’d had a crush on him too – that had to be more than a hot fuck driven by drunkenness in the middle of a blizzard.
Barry probably wouldn’t have had any hope at all for a future with Iris in it if she hadn’t so wistfully asked if they had one. Now he was determined they would. He just didn’t know all the details, and that worried him.
A yawn from Iris interrupted his thoughts just as the pilot interrupted the silent atmosphere to announce they’d be arriving soon in Central City.
“Ohh, I hate this part.” Iris frowned, covering her ears.
He had to smile at how adorably worried she looked.
“Why’s that?”
She turned to look at him.
“Do you have some gum?”
He laughed lightly but dug around in his pocket.
“I think so, yeah.” He handed her a stick. “Your ears pop going down?”
She nodded with a shudder. “Terribly. It’s the one thing I hate about riding in planes.”
“Thankfully, I don’t have that problem.”
She narrowed her eyes at him.
“Are you gloating?”
He laughed again, then quickly silenced himself.
“Of course not.”
She looked at him suspiciously, not believing him one bit, then stripped the gum of its foil and stuck it into her mouth, chewing immediately and madly, lowering her head between her knees and covering her ears tightly as the plane started to lower.
Barry almost chuckled once more, but her soft moan when the pain hit her eardrums made him sympathize, and he rubbed her back gently until the plane came to a stop on the runway, slowly finding its way to the appropriate gate.
“Better?” he asked when she came up to look out her window.
“I will be,” she said. “Still can’t hear very well, but I’m sure that’ll go away as the day goes on.”
He smiled. “I’m sure too.”
They waited for the pilot’s go ahead for everyone to get off the plane, and then were painfully reminded of the fact that they’d chosen to sit in almost the back row.
Iris groaned, but Barry took her hand and kissed the back of it.
“I don’t regret sitting next to you,” he said.
Iris’ heart leapt in her chest.
“I don’t regret sitting next to you either.”
She leaned towards him, nuzzled his face, then kissed his lips, sighing contently.
A grumpy old man in the sole seat behind them groaned in disgust, which made them lift their heads, but they decided not to let it bother them, continuing to kiss until the row a few ahead of them had been emptied.
“Come on,” Barry said. “Let’s get our things.”
He took her hand, intertwined their fingers, and led her down the aisle after they’d retrieved their carry-on bags.
Iris took a breath of air after they’d emptied the long passageway ramp leading from the plane to the gate and sighed in relief.
“Oh, my God, we’re free.”
Barry laughed.
“Do you need to call anybody or should we head to the baggage claim?”
Her eyes widened at his words.
“That’s actually…a good idea. I texted my boss to tell him I wouldn’t be able to make it yesterday, and he never responded. I hope I’m not fired.”
Barry frowned. “You still came on the flight even though it was just one meeting?”
“Oh, it’s not. Didn’t I mention that? It’s a convention. All day meetings for the whole weekend. Yesterday was just one meeting because it was the check-in day.”
“Oh.” His eyes lit up. She’d be in town for a few days. Busy mostly, but she’d still be nearby. That was hopeful. “Well, go ahead and call then. I have to call my mom anyway.”
“Okay.”
Iris pulled her phone out of her pocket, bit her bottom lip, and waited for her boss to pick up her call.
“Please don’t fire me. Please…please…please…”
Barry hung up the phone, pleased that his last-minute plan to bring Iris along with him to his parents’ house was a raving success – at least with his parents. He still had Iris to convince, but he had a good feeling about it. They’d met her before and liked her and knew of his borderline obsessive crush on her. His mother, Nora, was practically ecstatic on the other end when he told her how they’d run into each other. Though he neglected to inform her that they shared the same hotel room or got drunk together, let alone anything else. He’d need to tell Iris an amended story that wasn’t quite so scandalous but was still believable.
Nora Allen was sweetly innocent and oblivious to all things he didn’t tell her. His father, on the other hand, could see right through him and would probably pin him down later, demanding he tell him what really happened. That would be awkward, as it tended to be, but he would endure it if it meant spending a little more time with who he hoped he could call his girlfriend in the near future.
“Barry!”
He was too stuck in his own head to hear him the first time she called out to him, but he turned just in time to see her running towards him and calling his name multiple times as he did. His lips quirked at the corner, seeing her so silly, so joyful, and directing that energy at him. He almost fell over when she used her weight to lunge up and hug and kiss him.
“Long-awaited reunion?” An older woman nearby asked.
“We saw each other five minutes ago,” Barry shared, which made Iris’ face fill with heat, but she was still smiling.
The older woman’s counterpart slipped his arm around her waist and guided her away.
“Let’s leave the lovebirds be,” he chuckled, muttering something about their luggage and transportation that neither Barry nor Iris paid much attention to.
“What is it?” Barry asked, holding her close, his smile so wide his cheeks hurt.
“I’m not fired!” Iris said excitedly, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him down to kiss him again. “Oh, my God. I thought I was going to be, and now I’m not.”
“What happened?” he asked between kisses.
“My boss was sick, so they cancelled the meeting. They sent an e-mail notifying me, but it ended up in my spam folder somehow. They’ve rescheduled it for a few hours from now. Isn’t that great news?!” She squealed, and Barry couldn’t help but laugh; though a part of him felt unsettled, since a few hours from now didn’t give him much time with her. He hid his minor disappointment well though.
“That is great news.” He chuckled. “Is there anything you need to do before you get there?” he asked.
She bit her bottom lip, thinking.
“Well, I definitely have to shower and change clothes. I can do that at the hotel, though.”
“Or,” Barry hedged, introducing the topic daringly.
She blinked. “Or, what?”
“You could come with me to my parents’ house and get ready there. We could spend the afternoon together, and I could pick you up after your meeting…we could do ice cream or something.”
He noticed the exact moment she pulled away from him emotionally and worried he’d ruined everything.
“Your parents’ house, huh?”
He nodded slowly. “Yeah… They’re real sweet people. I’m sure they’d love having you.”
“I’m sure they are really nice, but…Barry.” She lowered her voice. “Isn’t that a bit soon? We haven’t even been on a date yet.”
“Yet,” he said, with a grin, deciding to focus on the positive. “I like the sound of that.”
Iris rolled her eyes, but she was smiling.
“Focus, Barry.” She hit him playfully.
He sighed, then pulled her close.
“Look, okay, I know this feels a lot like ‘meeting the parents’.”
“Uh-huh.” She nodded, worry in her voice.
“But it’s not really,” he said.
“How?”
“They’ve met you before,” he said cheerfully.
“When?” she demanded.
“In high school,” he said. “You came over a few times. We were friends, remember?”
“Yes, but Barry, that was 10 years ago. They probably don’t even remem-”
“I just called them. They definitely do.”
Heat flooded her cheeks again.
“Do they remember me as your friend or your crush?”
Barry turned a bright pink.
“Does it matter?” he squeaked.
“Kinda,” she offered. “I don’t know…maybe not. I just…don’t want to spend the whole time with your parents knowingly looking at me, wondering if we…did anything.”
“You don’t have to worry about that,” he said. “My mom is a saint. She won’t suspect a thing.”
“And your dad?” Barry paused. “What about your dad, Barry?”
“My dad won’t…be a problem…for you.”
She frowned. “What does that mean?”
“Just…trust me, okay? We don’t have to spend the whole time there, but I have to stop by to say Happy Birthday to my mom properly. We’ll have to do a little small talk since you’ll be with me, but then we can go, I promise.”
She sighed.
“I have to be at that meeting at 1 o’clock, Barry.”
“You will be.”
“That means getting to the hotel before then to get things arranged. And I can’t eat lunch, because they’ll serve it at the meeting.”
“No lunch. Got it.”
“And promise you won’t embarrass me.”
“I promise. You have my word.”
She looked at him suspiciously, and then finally relented.
“All right. Let’s go meet your mom and dad.”
He took her hands, bent his head to kiss her lips again, and smiled mischievously when they parted.
“What?” she asked, barely suppressing a giggle.
“Well, we have to get our luggage first.”
She hit him playfully again, and he laughed, recoiling out of reach before wrapping his arms around her waist and picking her off the ground for a few steps.
“Come on.” He gestured his head towards the long walkway. “It’s this way.”
She shook her head at him, but quickly caught up, sneaking her hand into his as they made their way to the baggage claim.

The Consequence [5]
Tumblr media
Series Masterlist || Main Masterlist
Pairing: Charles Blackwood x Female Reader
Summary: The reader is in search of Charles Blackwood as he’s been missing for several days and not once considering the warning that no good ever comes from being associated with a Blackwood.
Warnings: We Have Always Lived in the Castle spoilers (book and film). Semi/non-canon elements to the original story. Smut 18+ (unprotected sex, oral [female receiving], dirty talk/degradation, a bit of anal play) and mentions of violence [choking, slapping].
Title Inspiration: “The Consequence” by You Me At Six
Disclaimer: There are characters, dialogue and references from the actual book and film, We Have Always Lived in the Castle. They belong to the author and I take no credit for any of these elements.
A/N: It only took about six months, but here’s an update! I’m also currently working on a separate Charles Blackwood one shot, so if you love this bad boy you know where to find it.
Tumblr media
P A S T
Going against your parents’ wishes, you continued to see Charles. Their disapproving looks or muttered comments didn’t bother the two of you whenever he’d come to pick or drop you off back home. It was safe to say he wasn’t welcomed back in. The relationship you had with your parents was even more strained than ever now. You were surprised you hadn’t been disowned sooner, but none of that didn’t seem to concern you at all especially since most of your thoughts and priorities were preoccupied and focused on one person.
One time, Charles had decided to plan a trip to a cabin where you both were secluded. He allowed you to roam and drag him through the fields and he’d even just watch you write in the small notebook you always carried. It was the first of many trips Charles would take you on. You’d replay that moment and believe that’s when you fell in love with him. Your dad none but gave you a sermon-length lecture after you hadn’t returned for almost a week, a week away with Charles, without notifying them. Your parents weren’t stupid. They knew you were with him. It was tough on them to see their daughter run with the Devil and only hoped you’d see the light before it was too late.
When Charles’ dad passed away, you tried to be sad, but you couldn’t. You didn’t need to hide that because Charles didn’t seem to be too phased by the loss either. The man wasn’t much any kind to you as your own father was. Charles inherited everything since he was the remaining member of his immediate family, so then you start to spend the night at his home and while it wasn’t traditional you still continued to stay.
You’d begun to notice the stares from people in Charles’ village. A lot of woman flocked to him and a lot of men talked about him. Sometimes those women made you feel small. It was a harsh little town compared to yours. They were in an entirely different league than of your own. Charles never gave you the impression of unfaithfulness, but he sensed the insecurity.
While you were confident enough to trust he wouldn’t purse them, that didn’t mean you were okay with how he welcomed the attention he got from other women. Most times you just sat or stood there taking it, but when it was the other way around, he became somewhat of a madman.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” you mutter, ripping your hand out of Charles’ hold, and walking out of a seemingly friendly conversation you both were having with an “old friend” of his. How dare they bring up topics that purposely didn’t include you as if you weren’t standing right there? It was rude, you thought to yourself. If it was her job to make you uncomfortable and leave, she was successful in doing so.
Not to mention things weren’t going in your favor as of late and Charles’ recent actions back there didn’t help at attempting to turn things around. You’d been able to finish school not too long ago and were unsure of how to kickstart your own career and your father slowly started cutting you off at home, probably more so in retaliation of your relationship with Charles, plus there was no support from your mother and your siblings no longer looked up to you.
So, really, seeing the one person that was supposed to be the positive in your life acting like this didn’t sit well with you. You were almost to a breaking point. It made things even more muddy in your mind when you don’t fail to notice how he wasn’t the first one to chase after you.
“Hey, are you okay?”
Your mind was too clouded by anger to even acknowledge the kind person checking up on you. You had scurried out of the mansion owned by one of Charles’ friends, who was throwing a party for whatever reason you weren’t sure of. He might’ve told you, but your mind had been miles away at the time.
When you turn your head, you notice it’s the friend who was hosting this party. You’d met him only a handful of times and he seemed genuinely nice for what he had been blessed with. He had hundreds of other guests to attend to and yet here he was outside worrying about a woman he barely knew.
“Oh, hey,” you greet him trying your best to calm down. You weren’t mad at him, so it wouldn’t be fair to ruin his mood too, “…yeah. I just needed to get some fresh air.” Complete lie. You were trying to figure out a way to walk to the nearest station, in heels, to get you back home without encountering Charles.
“Are you sure that’s all you came outside for?” He pried.
“What did you see?” You sigh giving up the act. You weren’t that good at hiding your emotions as of late. In addition, you accidentally bumped into one of the servers on your way out, causing a small uproar from a woman whose dress you ruined in the process.
“Not much other than Charles trying his best to calm the lady who is demanding you pay for her dress that she said you ruined,” he replied.
“Fucking brat,” you mutter as an insult to the woman. She could very well have afforded a new one on her own and it was just a dress after all.
“I don’t think that’s all that is bothering you.”
“What do you think is bothering me?” You ask him, your body now fully turned to face his. He’s studying your demeanor, arms crossed in defense and a tired look on your face, while he has his hands in his pockets, causing the ends of his suit jacket to bunch up at the wrists.
“I think it’s something a little more than you let on and Charles doesn’t care.”
You shake your head at the accusation. “No, Charles cares about me,” you say trying to convince not just him, but also yourself.
“Really? Then why am I here and not him?” He challenges you and your jaw visibly ticks because you can’t answer that. Why wasn’t Charles out here instead of his friend? You really just want to scream.
“I want to go home,” was all you said. He nods his head and offers to give you a ride back to your shared home. You hesitate not wanting to take him away from his own party, but since it was almost coming to an end, he waived it off assuring you that the party could go on without him for the rest of the night.
The majority of the ride back is silent as he drove. It was between a bit of a blessing and a curse in disguise. For one, you weren’t willing to be asked or answer any doubting questions about your relationship with Charles to someone and two, the silence only ate at you the more time you had to yourself to examine each of those doubts. At least you were able to hitch a ride back on your own and avoid confronting Charles for a little while longer.
“Can I ask you something?” He asks as he puts the car in park by the gateway of the house. He takes the silence as a yes and continues. “Why are you with him?”
“What?”
“Charles. What do you see in him?”
“I don’t-“ you start, not really understanding where he’s going with this.
“Look, you seem like a nice girl. I’d hate to see something bad happen to you because of a Blackwood.”
There it was. Did the whole world just have it out for Charles? You let his words sink in for a moment. He realizes he’s not going to get a definite answer out of you right then, but his words definitely do leave a mark, so he takes this opportunity to get out of the car, crossover to your side and open the passenger door.
His words replay over and over in your head combined with what your family had been telling you this whole time. He notices the concentrated look on your face and carefully places his hands on your arms to bring you back down.
“If things get too much for you with him, please, don’t hesitate to ask for help,” he says and hands you his card. You accept it and are about to thank him when you briefly look over his shoulder to the house, the infamous red car already parked out front. Charles had made it home before you. You thank him for the ride and bid him goodnight before starting the pathway up to the house.
The lights are on inside and you brace yourself for impact. The relationship with Charles wasn’t perfect, but what relationship didn’t have their faults? There were times you both argued, emotions getting the best of you and hurtful words were said, but the good mostly outweighed the bad. The good was enough to keep you around because you couldn’t convince yourself enough to find that elsewhere or without Charles.
You find him reclining in one of the chairs when you enter the house. He has his eyes closed and you can’t tell if he’s asleep or not. Had he been waiting long? When did he leave without you noticing? You didn’t stick around long enough to find answers and decide to head upstairs to the bedroom. The quicker you were out of these clothes, the quicker you could get in bed and forget about the whole night. To your surprise Charles doesn’t budge and you’re not sure if you should be scared about that. Whatever. He can sleep there.
You carelessly toss the thin dress you were wearing on the seat of your vanity and drop the card on the table before heading into the bathroom to freshen up.
“You don’t have anything to say for yourself for what happened back there?”
You almost drop one of your earrings down the drain of the sink when you hear Charles’ voice. When you recover from the small jump it caused you, you ignore his question and proceed with your nightly routine.
“Really?” He scoffs and you watch him from the mirror. You can see him from behind you, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, a sick smile on his face; one that shows he can’t believe you’re acting like this.
“You fucking embarrassed me in front of everyone,” he starts, the tone of his voice is harsh, and the cold smile quickly evaporates. He’s trying to keep his anger under control, and you hope he does because the few times you’d seen him get angry was frightening. But he was making it hard for you when he was talking like that, especially right now.
“You were embarrassed?” You throw the question back at him. Him? Embarrassed? If anyone felt embarrassed it was you. “You embarrassed me!”  You say pinning the blame on him and throwing an accusing finger his way.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” He asks, his hands now on his hips. You notice he’d ditched the suit jacket and he’s left in his white button down and slacks whereas you were in your bra and panties, but you didn’t care.
“I stood there like a fucking idiot in front of what’s her name!”
“Is that it? You’re jealous?”
“No! That’s not it! It’s not the first time something like that has happened. You let them play me like a fool and for what?” He opens his mouth to respond, but you’re not done. “You don’t seem to notice that I’ve been unhappy lately and the worst part of it all is that you don’t even care. Do you even love me?”
The words just kept coming out and you couldn’t stop them from doing so. You see how he straightens up, jaw clenching and eyes growing dark. No. You say to yourself and the take quick strides to him and slam the bathroom door right in his face, locking it immediately. It wasn’t one of your brightest ideas, but you already started digging your own grave hours ago.
You jumped back at the sudden slam of his fists on the door. He was mad, alright. He kicked and shouted repeatedly for you to open the door. When you didn’t, you could hear him resort to knocking around the furniture in the room, yelling about he didn’t deserve this attitude you were giving him. You leaned against the counter listening to his tantrum.
After several minutes, it’s silent. All you do is stare at the door while biting at your fingernails. You’re not sure if he’s still there and you don’t want to take the chance. You think maybe you can sleep in the bathtub tonight k use the towels as a makeshift blanket and pillow. When you move to pull the towels out from the tiny bathroom closet, Charles calls out to you calmly like as if he wasn’t just rioting on the other side.
“Baby, let’s not fight,” he says through the door, “I’m sorry I didn’t pay attention when you needed me to.” You let go of the towels and walk closer to the door to hear him out. You can almost feel him through it, “…you know I love you. I love you so much.”
You’re still unsure of what to do or how to respond. He wasn’t going to own up to his mistake that easily. This was just the calm before the storm.
“I mean…remember Italy, when I proposed to you. Remember how that felt? We can talk this out. Please, you have to open the door,” he begged.
You decide not to give in and instead head to the sink and turn the faucets all the way on to drown him out. It wouldn’t have been as loud as the shower, but you still needed a spot to sleep in, so the sink would have to do. He didn’t take kindly to that response and soon enough he was once again outraged. You hear him call you other nasty names before he’s threatening to walk out on you.
“I could just walk away. I could!”
“Then do it!” You shout back, louder than you’ve ever shouted before.
It has some effect on him because one good kick in and the next thing you know the door forcefully swings open. It’s definitely damaged on the other end and now so is the wall that it collided with.
Charles marches towards you, backing you up against the counter, and reaches behind you to shut the running water off. He grabs a hold of your face; his grip so tight you can’t talk back or look away.
“I’m really trying here and you’re making it so hard,” he sneers while his body presses against yours, and it hurts because the more he does so, the more the counter digs into your back. You let out a small whimper and he catches on.
Instead of letting you go, he grabs your wrists and yanks you out of the bathroom. You try to hold your ground, not allowing him to drag you out any further. You can’t even fight him because he’s that much stronger than you.
One pull towards him, you end up colliding into his chest. He wraps his arms around your frame, your legs lifts off the ground and kick wild in the air as he continues to carry you to the bed, where you both drop down, him on top. Your next point of action is to scream, but he’s always one step ahead of you and he clamps your mouth shut with his large hand. You can smell the material of his corresponding engagement ring under your nose, but his hand is slightly blocking your airway, only causing you more stress.
The fight you put up is enough to tip him on the brink of insanity when you feel a sharp sting spread across your cheek. Your vision changes from him to the wall; he hit you. You’re really scared now. He’s never been this violent towards you. Stray tears escape your eyes and burn your ears as you’re made to look at him and stare back at a different set of eyes, not the ones you’d fallen for. His face so close to yours, your body is pinned down rendering you almost invalid underneath him and he wasn’t letting up. You think you could die this way.
“Stupid little girl,” he belittles while slipping his belt off and tying it uncomfortably tight around your wrists in front of you. Your jaw was still aching, so screaming wasn’t an option anymore and all of his weight was on your legs at this point.
“You think he’s going to love you?” He says referring to his friend from the party. He must’ve seen you both outside. Then he confirms it as he produces the card from his pocket that you were given earlier and rips it to pieces in front of you, scattering it all over your face.
Struggling against him wouldn’t get you anywhere, so when he realizes you’ve caught on, he begins wiping at your tearstained cheeks and place soft kisses all over and down your neck all while more and more of his clothing comes off.
You can feel a hardness against your thigh, and you try to swallow down the bile in your throat at the thought of him getting turned on by all of this. He gropes at your breasts through your bra and you wince at his rough handling. The noise you make causes his blood to rush and you feel his cock twitch. It barely grazes your clothed core.
He then flips you over like a rag doll and yanks your panties off down your legs. Your hair clouds your view of anything, and arms start to become numb from your crushing weight. He’s now caressing the plushest asset of your body before he runs a finger through your pussy folds. Your legs tense up at the feeling, a sign that your body is slowly starting to betray you.
Charles pushes a finger in, so deep you can feel the coolness of the ring at the end of his finger. It’s feels quite nice in contrast to the sting of the intrusion you weren’t exactly wet enough and ready for. That didn’t pose as a problem to Charles because he knew your body better than you did and he slowly began to pump his finger in and out of you, gradually inserting another and eventually in speed.
You tried your damn hardest to stifle your moans by managing to get a mouthful of the bedsheets your face was planted in. Your teeth’s hold wasn’t strong enough when Charles lifts your hips up in the air, causing the rest of your body drag along the linen. Your eyes snap open when you felt the tip of his tongue dart out and lick all the way from your clit to the end of your opening, dangerously close to your taint.
He teasingly bites, nibbles and pull at your now soaked folds that allow him to easily slip his fingers back inside you. What you don’t expect is for him to go back to your other hole. His fingers continue their assault and his tongue is suddenly pushing in and out then spreading more of his saliva all around the tight opening. This combination has your mind spinning and you don’t bite back anymore. You let out a feverish moan because it’s a whole new feeling and it felt awfully good.
You’re about to tether off the edge until he shoves your body away from his; your lower half losing balance and you fall onto your side. The position is awkward until he straightens you out. Charles removes the whips of hair splayed wildly all over your face, so you look at him head on. You take in his appearance, the way the ends of his hair curled from the sweat that’s built up, lips shinning, and the flare of his nostrils as he says his next words.
“Nobody is gonna love you like I do,” he reminds you before pushing in you torturously slow. He wanted to make sure you feel every inch all the way to the very bottom.
You groan letting your head lull back. Your thighs begin to quake, and you know he’s holding back only to spite you.
“There’s never going to be another like me,” he continues to taunt, but with each new remark that comes out of his mouth, the more force is added to his thrusts.
“I’m going to ruin them all for you,” the next thrust knocks the wind out of you; you can feel his balls slap right up against you too, “ ...you’re never going to forget the feeling of my cock,” and then he’s uncontrollable after that, pounding into you so hard, you can almost feel the bruises form as your hip bones knock each other’s.
“You’re fucking mine,” he says slowing down momentarily. You turn your head to the side as you writhe underneath him, but he takes it as a sign of refusal. He wasn’t pleased with that because it earns you another slap to the face before he is forcing you to look at him. A hand encircles your throat, and his fingers start to dig in, “...say it!” He demands.
The restraint on your wrist don’t allow much extension for your arms, your fingers uncalculating reach out to try and get him to loosen the grip around your throat. The little scratches of your fingernails to his palm are enough for him to catch on, and you’re quick to oblige to the command, chanting you belong to him until you’re out of breath. His pace speeds up again and you want to touch him so bad, it hurts more than the leather that’s digging in your skin as your wrists try desperately to break free.
Charles pushes his lips to yours when he comes, unloading deep inside you. Your back arches feeling rope after rope of his thick cum pool in you, a warm feeling spreading all over that sends you down into oblivion with him. He growls against your lips at how your walls suffocate his sensitive cock.
He lets go of your legs once he feels them stop quivering from the orgasm and gently pulls out. Not much of his cum seeps out because of how deeply he rooted it. Your eyes are closed trying to collect yourself, but also, you’re not sure if you’re ready to look at him just yet. You don’t sense his presence and imagine he’s either looking at you or worse he’s left.
You twitch at the sudden feeling of the cool damp cloth that touches your legs, but quickly relax when you realize Charles is cleaning you. You watch as he handles you delicately down there; his whole demeanor changed back to your Charles. You hear the splotch of the cloth being thrown aside and then he begins loosening up his belt around your wrists. You don’t get to attend to the wounds because he’s already inspecting and kissing at the sore skin. He helps you slip out of your bra to relax more before bringing you under the covers with him.
He cradles your body close to his. He lovingly rubs your face with the pad of his thumb trying to soothe away the residing pain he caused you there. You fall asleep through the night to constant apologies and whispers of I love you.
It’s a few days after and that night almost became unspoken, but you pushed though it and the pain aside because you had something important to do.
You lugged the suitcase that contained the remainder of your belongings at your parents’ home as you trudged down the stairs. Your siblings trailed along right behind you before stopping behind your mother’s legs.
“You’ve lost your damn mind!” You hear your dad shout at you.
You came here to announce your engagement to Charles and invite them to the wedding. Charles didn’t see a point in extending the invite, mostly knowing they would never approve of him, but it was important to you and he promised after that particularly intense night he vowed he would listen to you.
You were a fool to think this would go out any other way. Your parents would never accept Charles and in doing so, it meant they weren’t going to accept you. It was the final straw that had you officially wanting out. You hated the thought of leaving and most likely never seeing your siblings again, but they were being brought up to believe you weren’t redeemable anymore.
Your parents start to argue over one another trying to get you to reconsider eloping, but you’ve already made your decision.
“Listen to me, child. No good will ever come out of being with a Blackwood,” your father said as a final warning that for a split second it halted your steps towards the front door.
The decision was made long ago.
You gather all your strength to lift up the luggage and walk right out the door to the shiny, red car and to the man that was inside it waiting for you.
Never once looking back, you’re determined and ready to live the rest of your life with Charles and hope you never have to hear those words of warning ever again.
P R E S E N T
It was lunchtime in the Blackwood household and you’re helping Constance set the table before Merricat’s arrival. Merricat expected it from Constance. You found it a little odd that Constance slaved around the house, while Merricat ran off to do whatever it is she does. You thought there was a lot of odd things about how the two of them lived after studying their routine. You couldn’t imagine how the rest of their family had been like.
Another odd occurrence that was happening, as days went on, more and more of your things went missing. You were finally able to let go of your notebook, but then it was a pen, a book and a shirt. You resorted to keeping your jewelry on while you slept or some things under your pillow. A coincidence one too many. You had a crazy hunch as to how some of your belongings had suddenly started to disappear, but you didn’t act on it just yet.
Merricat was up to something, alright. She often returned to the house dirty and a bit on edge the more you tried to talk to her about anything. Your patience was almost running thin here. You tried being nice to them, and while it was effortless with Constance, Merricat was a different story.
You await on a Tuesday to start forcefully finding answers. Why Tuesday? Because Tuesdays is when Merricat goes into town to run some errands.
It seemed as if every waking moment in this house was spent tidying up the place. Did they ever take a break? The place was huge, you weren’t sure what part of the house you were cleaning in anymore.
An attempt to sweep up some debris, you find a charred piece of newspaper from the Shirleyville Herald, the headline read Blackwood Mansion Horror, and below it briefly detailed of an at home murder. You shoved aside more of the wreckage of the fire and found more pieces of what looked like more newspaper clippings. It was horrifying, seeing pictures of dead bodies, Constance’s mug shot and so on. It became overwhelming, and you threw the mess away on your way out of that room.
“Where are you going?” Constance asks catching your attention on the way out.
“I need some air,” you reply and walk out the front door; not another word exchanged.
You start on the path down the walkway that you always saw Merricat take on her way to town. You’re not looking to go there. No, because the last thing you needed was to be ridiculed by the townspeople. Instead, you decide to just wander around in the quiet woods. You don’t know how long you need, but you start to think how appealing it seemed to be out here than in the castle nearby. It was peaceful.
The mirage is broken when you hear a crack. You look down and notice you were stepping on broken glass. Luckily, you were wearing thicker footwear today, but you didn’t let that distract you from the mess underneath. There were tons of glass scattered around, it looked to be of broken mason jars stuffed with cloth and random objects, except they weren’t random at all. You inspected further the contents of the jars and realized they were your missing belongings.
It had to be her. It had to be Merricat. The dirty appearance and the fact she was hardly around the house. She was stealing your things under your nose and burying them and for what? It was so confusing to you.
There was one thing that wasn’t in a jar, but rather had a nail piercing through it. You reach over and grab the item and carefully yank the nail out of it. When you opened it, a flood of emotions ran through you as you realized it was your notebook. You were relieved you’d found it, but you were also outraged that she took something so precious from you and desecrated it.
You continue to flip through the pages until a page falls out. It was folded and didn’t match the paper of your notebook. You want to cry the moment you recognize the handwriting as you unfold to read the letter addressed to you. It was dated about a week before you got here.
“My darling,
It’s going on a full week since I’ve last seen you. A full week since I’ve last held you, kissed you, touched you – I miss you. I’m not one to write, but you always told me that it helps in difficult times, so that’s what I’m doing. I’m taking your advice and writing, writing to you and only you.
The paper starts to crumble between your fingers from how tightly you’re clutching onto it. Your heart starts to quicken its pace and you’re trying your best to stop your hands from shaking.
I should’ve told you where I was going. I didn’t lie when I told you I came out here to take care of financial things and boring stuff. I came here to help my family. You probably don’t know, but my aunt and uncle lost their lives a few years ago and their surviving daughters and our uncle Julian inhabit the home.
I never told you about this because I didn’t want it to scare you away. Although, I’m almost certain your parents might’ve already told you about everything. Let me tell you about my dear cousins. Cousin Mary doesn’t like me, but at least Constance does. Constance insists that cousin Mary likes me, but I could tell the moment I arrived she hated me. Oh, and uncle Julian seriously needs to see a doctor. The way they live, it isn’t healthy. They don’t even own a damn phone!
Look, I’ll just say it. There’s a large amount of money here and I want a cut of it. I came here to make sure I get something and enough for me to take care of you when I come back home.
You knew the intent was for him to never send you this letter. Charles writing this letter was for him to let off some steam or find some way to help ease his guilt. He always told you he didn’t believe in that method, but you were relieved to find this because it was big clue. You also knew that he was greedy sometimes and the money part didn’t surprise you at all.
I can’t wait to get out of this crazy town. You’d hate it here. I’m never taking you to this god forsaken place.
I’m thinking about the night we watched the sunset over Florence from the top of the Duomo. You looked so beautiful. A picture couldn’t capture the magic I saw in you. I knew I made the right call in asking you to marry me. I look forward to returning to you for forever.
Love, Charles.”
A floodgate of emotion wrecks through your body when you finish reading the letter. You don’t keep the tears at bay because this is the first sign of Charles you’d received in weeks. He had in fact been staying here, so you were on the right trail. Then you start to think about how this letter even found its way between the pages of your notebook. The girls had to know more than what they let on and you intended to find the truth.
You tuck the notebook under your arm and start to head back to the house. You make it back in time just right before dinner is about to be served. You internally scold yourself for failing to assist Constance with preparations. After all, you were still a guest to their home. You notice Merricat hadn’t made it in yet, which was no surprise.
It worked out in your favor because after you hid the notebook in the area you were sleeping in, Merricat’s absence allowed you some alone time with Constance. You asked her about any other surviving relatives and if they’d come to visit lately. You don’t miss the slight strike in fear of emotion that slips through her smiling façade when she lies to you that no one has stopped by. You continue to interrogate her by saying you heard about other Blackwood family members coming through from the townspeople, but she dismisses it with other topics.
Constance uses your appearance as an excuse to end the uncomfortable conversation. You didn’t realize that you had dirt on your knees, forearms and hands. When you leave to wash up, you bump into Merricat. You stare her down for a moment before retreating to the bathroom.
Dinner is uncomfortably silent that night except for the request from Constance asking if you’d assist her in gardening tomorrow. You agree to helping her, hoping it’d bide you more time with her to ask more pressing questions.
Unsure of how long she’d been staring at you, you shift awkwardly in your chair as Merricat has her eyes fixated at the wedding band on your left hand.

A/N: One more chapter left! I know how I want this to end, but how do YOU want it to end? I’d love to read what you’re thinking! Thanks for reading!

Shawn was in the studio this morning so Y/n thought she’d clean the house a bit. She had just gotten back from an overseas trip and was at home resting from all the lights and cameras. She was used to the photos being taken of her and the articles being written about her since she already had a name for herself in Hollywood, being an up and coming actress. That’s not to say that some of the articles about her didn’t sting, but she never thought she’d be so spitefully talked about when she started dating Shawn. The media truly had a field day at her expense, but she never told Shawn how she truly felt, wanting to spare his feelings because she knew how hurt he’d be if he found out what people were saying about her. Of course, he knew about the articles and tabloids, but he didn’t know of the snide comments she got from her coworkers or fans as she walked down the street. He didn’t understand how hurt she was, and she wanted to keep it that way. She couldn’t bear to unload her baggage on him, when he had so much he dealt with on a daily basis.
They met just under two years ago. It was pretty cliche, but to them it was truly was love at first sight. Rain was pouring down on the streets outside as Y/n ran to a small coffee shop to try and avoid the brewing storm. However, just as she was reaching for the door handle, she made contact with another hand. Pulling her hand back in surprise she looked up at this man. He had the warmest smile and the most beautiful eyes.
“I- uh,” she coughed, trying to clear her throat before continuing, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you there.”
Eyes shining bright, he said, chucking, “Well that makes two of us.” Holding the door open for her he followed her in. Once inside the safety of the cafe he introduced himself saying, “Hi, I’m Shawn,” while stretching out his hand to shake.
Looking at his outstretched hand and then back into his brown eyes she replied, “I know who you are. I’m a big fan of your music.” Slightly embarrassed, she took his hand and gave it a light shake before continuing. “My name is Y/n. Uh- Y/n Y/L/n.”
“No way! As in Y/n L/n the actress? I’ve seen a couple of your movies. You are so talented, especially in that murder thriller,” he gushed with flushed cheeks and a big smile adorning his face.
After ordering they sat down together and talked for over an hour, but it felt like a couple of seconds. Time flew by and next thing they knew they were exchanging numbers with the promise to meet up again. Now, almost two years later, they are living together and Shawn plans on proposing to her on their second anniversary. He has it all thought out, they are going to a romantic picnic and then going back to the coffee shop where they met. It will be there where he’ll drop to one knee and ask the question that’s been plaguing his thoughts for the past weeks.
However he is currently at the studio, as he’s been extremely busy finishing writing a song for her. It’s taken a toll on his stress, but he knows it’ll be worth it. He is really proud of the turnout and is ready to call it a day, after he finishes the last couple chords, to finally go cuddle with Y/n back home.
- At their shared home -
Y/n was content with the amount of cleaning she had done and decided to kick back and relax. She threw on one of Shawn’s shirts and sat in front of their large flatscreen in the living room. Lost in her thoughts after catching sight of the photo next to the tv. It was a picture of the two of them, looking at each other. They were completely smitten, and everyone knew it. Sure they had their disagreements, but so does every couple. Their love for each other was strong enough to know that they would always be there for each other. Even after the worst fights, in the end, they knew they’d be alright.
She was brought back when her twitter app notified her name being tagged in a tweet that was getting a lot of feedback. Opening up her phone she saw a hashtag trending that stated “#Mendes dump L/n”. She usually ignores things like this that pops up on her feed, but something prompts her to open it, and she later wishes she hadn’t.
It was just another thing that belittled Y/n and made her feel more insecure. It’s not the actual tweet which bothered her, but it was the comments from all the fans. So many people were jumping in and saying how ugly she was, or how she doesn’t deserve Shawn. She always grew up feeling like that. Never knowing if people were using her or whether people truly liked her or not. Since a very young age, she struggled with anxiety and inner demons. Her parents thought she made it up and constantly ignored her begging for medication to help her not feel like that anymore. She wanted something to calm her racing heart and needed relief from the anxiety that coursed through her veins, but no one heard her pleas. They fell to deaf ears. It got worse in high school when she started isolating herself. She would put up a mask to hide the depression and anxiety. It felt like no one saw who she truly was, but people liked the person she was with the mask. That mask started to become who she was.
It got so bad that she would cut herself. As the tears streamed down her face, she brought the razor to her wrist and would cut line after line into her soft flesh. She watched as the blood pooled out and felt a sense of calm, and now again she thought about it. She thought about the distraction and almost relief she felt from the pain that cutting brought. It felt like her problems left as the blood pooled out with the dark red. She wanted that relief again.
Getting up from the couch and going into the bathroom where she kept a razor, while in the back of her mind she told herself she was foolish for believing the lies that the people spewed, she held it with trembling hands. Then she remembered Shawn. The handsome man she’d fallen for, with a broad smile and the most generous heart. Then, remembering how he’d been spending more and more time at the studio. Maybe they were right and perhaps he needed someone more stable and beautiful by his side. Someone who could be confident with themselves, despite the dirt and shit people threw at her. Tears leaked from the corners of her eyes. So used to the emptiness, it felt like second nature to be in this position. It didn’t stop her from questioning her decision, but she knew she wanted the best for Shawn. Maybe, just maybe if she killed herself Shawn could find someone who made him happy, she thought.
Stripping out of her clothes and stepping into the shower with the razor in her hand, she let her tears mix with the pounding water. The water was burning her skin, but she didn’t even feel as it left her skin raw and burning. All Y/n felt at that moment was the emotional toll that years of scrutiny had left her. Her mind was cloudy and dazed and she held the sharp point to her wrist. Applying a little pressure, she winced when she dragged it across her skin. Blood almost immediately started to run out of the cut. Years of cutting left her with the knowledge of how deep to cut without leaving scars. Not starting off too deep was her plan, because she knew she had to build up to it. She cut again and again and watched as the blood escaped her tiny cuts. The cuts were light but her wounds ran deep. The pain was not external but was a raging storm within. It clouded her judgment and thoughts, to the point where she couldn’t feel anything but pain.
Her physical pain didn’t even phase her. She could only focus on the blood as it mixed with the water on the shower tile on the floor. Ragged, short breaths left her as Y/n thought about all the comments from the media and people. Falling back against the shower wall she clutched her wrist to her chest. She wanted it to end, the assault of the hateful words trashing in her head like a raging beast. Her thoughts were so overwhelming in her head that she didn’t hear Shawn calling her name.
- Shawn’s side-
Walking in the door, Shawn tosses his keys into the bowl by the entryway. Looking around he breathes out a deep sigh, letting out his stress. He was ready for this, ready to take the next step with the love of his life. So, as he made his way further into their shared home he wasn't even fazed when he heard the shower running. It brings about a sense of domesticity for him. However, his brows knit together when he hears cries coming from inside the bathroom. Calling out Y/n’s name with no response causes his heart rate to start picking up. Rushing in, he flings the door of the ensuite bathroom open and sees a sight that makes his heart break. There was Y/n, the love of his life, was sitting with her head down and her hands clutched to her chest. Moving closer, his heart pounds and his vision begins to spin at the sight red dripping down her left forearm.
Pulling open the shower door he stands dumbfounded as Y/n quickly looks up at him, with bloodshot eyes and a broken expression on her face. It wasn’t even her appearance that made his heart come to a crashing stop. No, it isn’t how her breath hitches in her throat or even the way she sits there on the floor of the shower looking up at him. It is what he sees in her hand, what he sees running down her arms. In those couple seconds, he realizes he needs to help her. So, grabbing the hand towel on the hook, he wraps it around her damaged wrists, careful to not cause too much pain in his attempt to catch the rapidly decreasing blood flow. Silence overtakes them as he dresses and tends to her arm. It’s a couple minutes before Shawn has the courage to speak up.
“I- uh, Love… Why did you do this?” he questions in a weak voice, once safely of the shower.
She doesn’t say anything, but instead falls into his body and cries. Wrapping another towel around her soaked frame, he wraps his arms around her to bring her closer. No words are spoken as he guides them to the bedroom and he holds her in his strong arms against his chest.
Y/n had her head against his chest, and something about the steady beat of his heart calms her. Just him being there calms the storm that rages war in her head. Her breathing has slowed and she feels better. Shawn looks down and sees she is now more relaxed. No longer are there tears or fear, but it has since been replaced with a look of emptiness.
With much trepidation, he speaks up saying, “Honey, tell me why. What made you do this? You know I love you so much. I-if I found y-you dead… I don’t know what I would do. You are the best thing to happen to me Y/n Y/l/n. Don’t forget that.”
Y/n looks at him, hearing the vulnerability in his voice. She nods into his chest and takes a few calming breaths before replying, “I just read a- some tweets that- um- that said you should break up with me. And I know it’s stupid and I shouldn’t read things like that. But something about it reminded me of what I’ve been told my whole life. I don’t know, I guess I started to believe them. I mean with you at the studio a lot lately.” She started to ramble, “and that’s fine! I am not trying to be clingy. I was just thinking maybe there is a better person-”
“Stop. No, don’t say that love. You are the only right person for me. I knew that when I met you in the coffee shop that day. I’ve loved you since then. Okay? Don’t listen to their lies. If they cannot see that you are so loved, then that’s on them. You are so amazing and beautiful, and I love you so much. There is no one that I would rather be with. Okay- uh so, I had a whole big plan for this but I cannot wait any longer. I need you to understand how much I love you.” he stated before getting up and moving to their shared closet. She hears him rummaging around before she sees him coming out again.
“Y/n Y/l/n, you are so special to me. Your smile brightens my day and leads me back home in the craziest storms. There’s not a moment when you aren’t on my mind, and I want to marry you-”
“Shawn what-” she gasped in shock, quickly sitting up and moving to the edge of the bed, with the towel still wrapped around her soaked frame.
Bending on one knee, he grabs her left hand, conscientious of the bandaging, and in a voice thick with emotion he asks, “Y/n Y/l/n, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”
“I- I, yes! I love you,” she cries. However, her tears are for a completely different reason. He stands up and places the ring on her finger and kisses her. The kiss is slow and deep. It’s not like any other kiss they’ve shared, not after coming home from a party turned on, or even the first kiss they shared. No, this kiss is so symbolic, and emotional, and it’s not until they break for air do they come back from that bliss.
Once again laying upon the bed, with Y/n in Shaw's arms he whispers, “Who’d've thought that we’d get engaged with you only in a towel and in our bedroom?” He has a cheeky grin on his face, and she knows what he is implying. She chuckled with him before he continued, “We are going to have proper engagement. You need to act surprised too. All our family will be there and want to see your reaction. For now, how about I take care of that towel. We have a lot to celebrate.”
She looks at him and smiles, ducking her head into his neck. Nodding her head in a silent agreement, she starts to place small kisses onto the underside of his chin. He tightens his grasp on her and flips her so he’s hovering atop her. A smirk plays on his lips as he slowly pulls either side of the towel from around her. Yeah, the night has just begun.

Too Soon
Human AU
Summary: Winona Damon is pregnant with baby #3. All is going well… until it’s not.
WARNING: This story depicts blood, premature labor, and pregnancy/birth complications. Tread cautiously if you are bothered by any of those topics.
--
“Good morning, Mrs. Damon,” the young secretary greeted.
The 45-year-old CEO barely even nodded in response as she headed to her office. She was far too busy to bother with pleasantries. The new summer collection was due to launch in less than a month, and there was still so much to do.
Winona closed the office door behind her and immediately began shuffling through papers. She groaned internally as she caught a glimpse of the clock. She had barely a half hour until her first conference call. Normally she arrived to work at least an hour earlier than she had that day, but the small bump in her abdomen had caused her to run behind. This was her second pregnancy and third child, so she knew well all the ways it could slow her down, but this one was already causing her more grief than the twins had. Perhaps it was because she was much older than she’d been when she had Yvonne and Beatrix, but stars she was so much more tired this time around. It was bad enough that her unborn daughter had a habit of using her bladder as a trampoline, but add in the round ligament pains, and trying to sleep was impossible.
Just as she always did, Winona pulled herself together in time for the conference call. It was the usual talks of which rings should be the center focus of the commercials and which bracelets should appear largest in the print adds. About halfway through the call, Winona stood up from her desk to retrieve the file of sample earring ads, when she felt a painful tightening in her abdomen. A small cry escaped her lips, not unlike the sound one would make after stubbing their bare toe on a sharp corner.
Round ligament pains again, Winona rationalized, I stood up too fast.
The conference call continued as planned, but Winona wasn’t as focused as she’d been before. This tightness in her abdomen had never happened before, and she couldn’t shake the feeling of unnerve. The remaining hour and a half of the call could have been pure static for all she knew. She was too preoccupied with the persistent thought that she needed to call her OBGYN.
Winona started to breathe easier as the executives and heads of marketing and advertising began their words of departures. She had a few hours until her next meeting, which would give her plenty of time if her doctor thought her concerns warranted a trip to her office. Just as Winona was about to say a hasty goodbye, she was silenced by the feeling of something warm gush between her legs. Her immediate thought was that the baby had hit her bladder too hard, but that went out the window when she saw her white skirt rapidly turning red.
“Mrs. Damon are you still there?” an executive on the other line asked.
Winona had already slammed open her office door before the question had been fished. The intern screamed at the sight of her, alerting the sea of cubicles to their boss’s plight. Winona found herself unable to move as blood pooled at her feet. Her body was shaking and sweating as she felt the color quickly drain from her face. Half the room was frozen in fear, and the other half was rushing to her aid. The lights were getting dimmer. Her secretary caught her as she fainted.
Her last thought before completely blacking out was of the stillness in her abdomen.
--
“What do you mean you’re delivering the baby!?” Yvonne screamed at the attending nurse. She and Beatrix had been in school when they got word of their mother’s condition. Naturally, they’d left immediately for the hospital. Beatrix hadn’t stopped crying since they got in the car. “Mom’s only five months pregnant!”
“Ms. Damon, normally we’d try to hold off delivery for as long as possible, but the placenta has detached completely,” the nurse explained, “With the amount your mother is hemorrhaging, if we don’t deliver now, both she and the baby will die.”
Beatrix cried harder. Yvonne’s jaw clenched, and her hands were balled in fists.
“What’s going to happen to the baby?”
“We’re going to do all we can for her Ms. Damon, but in my professional opinion, 24 weeks gestation is far too early for there to be a predictable outcome. Her odds of surviving are anywhere from 30-50%.”
Yvonne’s jaw clenched tighter. She didn’t like those odds.
“We’ll notify you when your mother’s out of surgery,” the nurse went on, “If the damage to her womb is as bad as the doctor’s predicting, we might have to perform a hysterectomy. We’ll keep you two updated.”
Yvonne nodded. As the nurse hurried off, the elder twin turned her attention to her crying sister.
“It’s going to be ok, Bea,” Yvonne assured her as she sat down in the seat next to her, “You know mom. She’s going to pull through.”
           “B-but the baby,” Beatrix sobbed, “Y-Yvonne, our b-baby sister…”
She couldn’t complete her sentence. Yvonne held her as she began to cry harder.
--
The sound of consistent beeping was the first thing Winona heard as she started to come to. She tried to recall what had happened and where she was, but getting her thoughts straight was like trying to navigate through a maze in a sea of fog. Opening her eyes, she could make out two tubes attached to her arm; one for an IV drip and one for a blood transfusion. Something attached to her finger was monitoring her pulse and heart rate. Still clouded in confusion, she tried to sit up, but was stopped by her attending nurse.
“It’s too soon Mrs. Damon,” she advised.
Right on cue, Winona felt a sharp pain spike through her abdomen. She hissed as she laid back down, instinctively placing her hand on what should’ve been her baby bump. It was then that it all came rushing back to her.
           “My baby! Where is she?”
“She’s in the NICU, Mrs. Damon. You’ll be able to see her tomorrow morning.”
“You will take me to see her now,” Winona demanded.
“Mrs. Damon…” The nurse chose her next words carefully. “Due to the damaged caused by the placental abruption, we had to perform a postpartum hysterectomy. The doctor doesn’t want you out of bed until tomorrow.”
Winona stared blankly at the nurse. She wasn’t sure how to process that. She hadn’t planned on having more children after this one, but a hysterectomy…
She decided she’d have to figure out how she felt about that later. What truly mattered right now was her baby.
“What’s happening with my baby? Is she…”
“She’s not doing great, but it’s too soon to come up with a prognosis. Babies born at this stage are very touch and go.”
“So what you’re saying is my baby could die at any moment, and you’re not even going to let me see her?”
           “That’s not what I-”
“No, let me finish,” Winona interrupted, her tone quickly shifting from one of fear to anger, “Do you know who I am? I’m Winona Damon, founder and CEO of Damon’s Diamonds. I could buy this whole hospital if I wanted to. I will not sit here and be told what to do by someone who’s worth less than my Porsche. Now, go do whatever you have to do to get me to my baby girl, or I will have your job!”
The nurse stood there for a moment, speechless. Finally, she walked out of the room without another word. Winona waited, impatiently, for her to return with a wheelchair and whatever else she needed to make her mobile, but instead she was greeted by an agitated looking Yvonne and a clearly hysterical Beatrix.
“How are you feeling, mother?” Yvonne asked, though her tone sounded like she’d rather be asking “Why on god’s green earth are you threatening the hospital staff?”
“Where has that nurse gone to?” Winona demanded.
“Mother, please,” Yvonne begged, she and Beatrix moving to stand at their mother’s bedside.
“You just had major surgery!” Beatrix added, “You need to rest.”
“What I need is to get to your little sister,” Winona protested, “Have you two seen her yet?”
           “No, but-”
“We’ll go together then. One of you go get the nurse.”
           “Mother-”
“Don’t you “mother” me! I’m the parent, you’re the child! You listen to me! Now one of you go bring that nurse back here or so help me I’ll-!”
“Alright, alright, mother!” Yvonne said, mostly out of fear Winona would end up reopening her wound if she didn’t calm down, “I’ll talk to the nurse and see what I can do.”
Winona was satisfied enough with that response. Yvonne left the room, Beatrix following close behind her. She didn’t like being alone with her mother when she was angry.
After much arguing with nurses and doctors, and having to sign several wavers stating she understood the consequences of disobeying doctors’ orders, Winona was finally wheeled down to the NICU, her teenage daughters following alongside. It had the most depressing energy out of everywhere else in the maternity ward, riddled with sick babies and scared parents. The Damon women were soon at the side of the incubator labeled with their family name. Beatrix gasped, Yvonne’s eyes widened, and Winona stared blankly at the much too tiny creature that was housed inside of the incubator. She was skinny, wrinkly, and hooked up to so many tubes and wires. Her delicate eyes were covered with a tiny eye mask, too sensitive for the fluorescent lights of the hospital. She was so still, the only indication that she was alive coming from all the machines she was hooked up to. The twin sisters looked at each other, communicating without words that this thing looked more like an alien creature than a baby.
“I’m sorry to say that I can only allow you to look at her,” the doctor explained, “She’s too weak to be held, or even touched right now.”
Winona was silent. Yvonne and Beatrix were silent. This little thing was so fragile. How could it ever fulfill the dream of the bright young heiress they all envisioned?
“Well, I’m assuming you’ve had time to examine her,” Yvonne said to the doctor, “What’s the prognosis?”
“As I’ve already explained, Ms. Damon, I can’t say for sure at this point. Things can change from minute to minute.”
“But what about this minute?” Beatrix begged, “What are things looking like this minute?”
           The doctor’s expression dropped.
“Right now… I wouldn’t encourage getting your hopes up.”
The twins expressions dropped alongside the doctor’s. They’d expected as much, but to hear it out loud…
           “Piper,” Winona finally spoke.
All eyes turned to the new mother.
           “Pardon me, Mrs. Damon?”
           “Piper. Her name is Piper.”
--
It had been three weeks since Piper Damon was brought into the world. Though she was on doctor’s orders to get as much rest as possible, Winona hadn’t missed a second of visiting hours. She’d been warned several times that her recovery time would be much longer if she didn’t take it easy, but, as she often did, Winona dismissed their concerns in favor of her own instincts. Nothing would keep her from her baby, especially not today.
Winona sat in a curtained off area in the NICU, little Piper in the incubator beside her. Unbuttoning the last button of her blouse, she watched in anticipation as the nurse removed the impossibly tiny baby from her incubator. At long last, Winona’s newborn was placed on her bare chest, a baby blanket provided by the hospital placed over them.
The mother smiled at the baby, who, though still connected to several wires and tubes, was finally where she was supposed to be; in her mother’s arms.
           “Hello Starlight,” Winona softly said.
Piper’s eyelids began to twitch. She didn’t need to keep her eye mask on for as long of periods anymore, and just a few days ago she opened her eyes for the first time. Winona hadn’t been lucky enough to be there to see it, and Piper had still yet to open her eyes during visiting hours. Maybe now she’d finally get the chance to look into her daughter’s beautiful eyes.
Winona gently ran her finger down Piper’s pencil thin arm, stopping when she reached her impossibly tiny hand. The nurse had gone to tend to another family. It was just the two of them now.
“Baby mine, don’t you cry,” Winona began to sing, “Baby mine, dry your eyes. Rest your head close to my heart, never to part, baby of mine.”
Piper’s eyelids continued to twitch. She was clearly reacting to her mother’s voice.
“Little one, when you play, pay no heed what they say. Let your eyes sparkle and shine. Never a tear, baby of mine.
“If they knew all about you, they’d end up loving you too. All those same people who scold you, what they’d give just for the right to hold you.
“From your head down to your toes, you’re not much, goodness knows, but you’re so precious to me. Sweet as can be, baby of mine.”
As the song came to an end, Piper’s tiny eyes fluttered open. Winona smiled proudly as she held onto the baby’s doll sized fist. Her eyes were a bright blue, though were likely to change as she got older. Winona hoped they’d turn gray, like her own.
“There you are,” she quietly said to the baby.
As quickly as they were open, Piper’s eyes shut again. Though it felt too soon, Winona was so happy to finally see it.
“We’re all so excited to bring you home. We’re already almost finished with your nursery. Everyone’s told me not to get my hopes up, but I know you’re a fighter. You’re a Damon, after all. Soon you, me, and your sisters will all be together in the estate. You’ll have many toys to play with, you’ll want for nothing. Doesn’t that sound lovely, Piper?”
Though her view was obstructed by the breathing tube, Winona could’ve sworn she saw Piper smile.

Lost and Found
Summary: Aiden’s family is a disappointment (are we surprised),, bday time! + tony’s basically a dad now
Warnings: major fluff, fatherfigure!tony, angst if you squint
Part Eight
For the next week, Tony made the executive decision to keep Peter and Aiden home from school, much to Aiden’s disappointment. (“I can’t believe how much homework I’m going to have to make up!”).
Training became a big part of Aiden’s day, usually Bucky or Nat for 2+ hours a day. Aiden also started pitching in to make dinner for everybody, much to the group’s excitement. They constantly complained about Steve’s inability to make anything more than pasta, and the rest didn’t even know how to cook. So, Aiden filled in the gap as chef and made dinner for them every night if she wasn’t too tired.
Pepper quickly became a mother figure to Aiden, and Wanda and Nat were like (extremely) overprotective sisters, who could also kill someone. Tony and Steve became Aiden’s father figures, while Bucky was more like a cool uncle who she would go to when anything happened. Sam was the annoying brother who she still loved (barely). Vision acted as a grandpa almost, stopping random squabbles and acting wise all the time. Scott and Hope were always acting like another set of parent figures; Scott was silly but could always cheer Aiden up and Hope would always give her logical advice. Rocket tried to teach Aiden how to pickpocket, much to Steve’s dismay, and Gamora, Mantis, and Drax all loved Aiden. Quill would always mess with her in a loving way, and they were always laughing together. Thor was yet another close friend, and they were constantly talking about one thing or the other when they were together.
Then, there was Peter (Parker). After that one fateful night, Aiden and Peter were practically attached at the hip. It became a common occurrence for Aiden to go to sleep alone and then wake up with Peter next to her. Aiden had F.R.I.D.A.Y. notify her if Peter ever had a nightmare in his room at night, so she could go over and comfort him.
Slowly but surely, the Avengers became her family. Aiden could almost begin to forget Tom and her parents and brother back home. However, Aiden and Peter couldn’t hide out at the tower forever; they had to go back to school.
Monday morning rolled around, and Aiden woke up in her own bed. She had gone back home the night before so that she would be prepared to go back to school. It felt strange being back in her bed; she was so used to the one in her room at the tower.
Checking the time, Aiden realized she only had an hour before she had to leave for school. Rushing around her room, she threw on a forest green sweater with boyfriend jeans and black Doc Martens. She left her hair down and grabbed a granola bar on the way out the door, hurrying to get to the subway station on time.
Aiden breathed a sigh of relief as she reached school on time and walked in, heading to her locker. On the way there, she heard somebody call her name, and she turned around, confused. It didn’t sound like Peter or Ned, Peter’s best friend. Her jaw practically dropped open when she saw Flash Thompson running towards her.
Subconsciously, she started to back up, but stopped when he called out, “WAIT!” and reached a hand out towards her. Aiden opened her mouth to talk, but was cut off by Flash.
“Hey, Aiden! I was just wondering if you were okay?” He asked, panting.
At this, she grows even more confused. “What are you talking about?” She questioned.
“You weren’t at school for most of last week, and it was your first week at school, so I was wondering if you were good?” He rambled nervously.
Aiden grinned and pulled him into a hug, startling Flash. “I’m great! Sorry, I just got really sick. I guess my body’s not used to all this New York pollution.” She waved her hand dismissively. Flash smiled, then pulled her into another hug. Then, he pulled away, and ran to catch up with the rest of his group who were waiting for him.
Aiden smiled a little, then turned around and continued to her locker.
At lunch, she sat with Peter, Ned, and a girl named MJ. MJ kept to herself, sticking to reading her books and throwing in a few sarcastic comments every now and then.
Aiden decided to make it her mission to become friends with MJ and have a conversation with her. She would talk to MJ a lot, and ask her for help when Peter and Ned were being stupid.
Every day after school, Happy Hogan would come to pick up Peter and Ned, and they would go to the Avengers Tower. Aiden would train for an hour or two with Bucky, then would sit with Bruce and Tony in the workshop or lab and do her homework with Peter. The two adults would help them out, and she always made it a priority to talk to everyone everyday before she left to go home for the night.
Rather quickly, Aiden and MJ became quite close, and considered themselves best friends. Aiden and Flash talked, and Flash opened up about how his family life at home wasn’t great, to which Aiden shared her story with her family. They hugged it out, and now Flash was like a brother to her. She even convinced him to stop calling Peter Penis Parker. The bullying was still a work in progress.
Speaking of Peter, their relationship was continually progressing. The best part of Aiden’s day was when she could see Peter; it was safe to say that he thought the same way. Everyone could see the sparks between them; even Flash had asked Aiden about it (multiple times).
Sam had sworn to Aiden if Peter ever breaks her heart, he’ll break Peter. Everyone else had said something along those lines to her as well, Flash and MJ included. The only people who were oblivious to Aiden’s change in attitude were her parents; they never really paid attention to her and neither did her brother. She felt like a stranger in her own home and she hated every second of it.
The weeks leading up to Aiden’s birthday, she didn’t mention anything to anybody. When Tom was still on good terms with their family, they would wake the birthday person up with a celebratory breakfast of their choosing with a little candle on the top. That stopped after he left, however.
That morning, Aiden woke up on her own, before her alarm. She decided to make her own birthday breakfast, complete with a candle. She prepared some waffles, then topped them with fresh fruit and whipped cream.
Adding a little candle at the top, Aiden lit it and made a wish. She blew it out, alone in the kitchen, and whispered to herself, “Happy birthday”. It was then that she noticed a little note on the countertop, taped down.
Padding over to read it, she recognized her mother’s handwriting.
It read, Aiden, your father, brother, and I have gone on a little vacation. We left early this morning for a red-eye flight. We didn’t bother to bring you because you have to get your grades up anyway, you don’t deserve to go on this trip. We should be back in a week. There’s enough frozen meals in the freezer to last you that long. We’ve also left you a few hundred dollars. We’re going to our old city to meet up with some people.
At this, Aiden gasped, and tears started to blur her vision. She had practically been begging to go back to their home and visit all of her friends, yet they went without her. She continued to read the note.
P.S. happy birthday
She sucked in a deep breath and tried to calm herself. She headed to her room and got ready for the day, deciding to be a little extra because it was her birthday. She pulled on a plaid yellow mini dress, and some Tommy Hilfiger sneakers.
I’m not going to let my family ruin my birthday, Aiden thought. Just as she was about to do her makeup and hair, she heard a knock at the door.
Walking over, she swung it open to find all the Avengers (minus Tony) standing at her door. She gasped and brought her hands up to her mouth. They started to sing happy birthday to her, and as they finished, Peter stepped forward.
Aiden rushed over to him and pulled him into a tight squeeze, brought to tears for the second time today. Then, she frowned, pulling away.
“How did you guys know it was my birthday? I didn’t tell anyone,” She commented.
Nat and Steve shrugged, then chorused, “Tony,” at the same time. Aiden smiled. Her attention was brought over to Peter when he handed her a small gift bag; she took it and smiled.
“Really, guys, you didn’t have to. I didn’t tell anyone for a reason,” Aiden stated, crossing her arms.
Sam chuckled and shook his head. “Of course we had to! You’re part of the family, Aiden! Speaking of family, where is your family?” He leaned to the side to see an empty apartment.
Aiden sighed and shook her head. “They left for a trip to my hometown early this morning… I didn’t even get to see them. They left a note on the kitchen counter. I’ve wanted to go back and visit for the longest time, and they decided to go without me on my birthday. So, yeah, that’s where they are.” She finished. Everyone was silent for a moment, before Peter rushed towards her and wrapped her in a hug. She buried her head into his shoulder, before lifting her head and wiping her eyes with one free hand.
Then, before she could second guess herself, she leaned in and closed her eyes, kissing him.
Peter was stunned for a second, then came to his senses and kissed back. Aiden smiled into it, and it felt like everything melted away. Her arms came up and her fingers tangled themselves in his hair, pulling him closer. She forgot all of her pain in that second, and only her and Peter existed in their little world. Then, someone coughed, and they broke apart, breathing heavily.
“Took you guys long enough!” Sam said, and everyone laughed and clapped. Peter grinned and pulled her in for another kiss. Aiden happily obliged, and by the time they stopped, she was out of breath, grinning like crazy.
The Avengers waited in her living room while she finished getting ready. They had surprised her by saying they were all taking her to school instead of having to take the train, and Aiden couldn’t have been more excited.
Walking into the kitchen to grab water, she found Bucky and Sam raiding her fridge. She laughed as Bucky popped his head out, a plum in his mouth. a/n - I’m sorry I HAD TO GIVE HIM A DAMN PLUM.
“Hey, you’re finally ready!” He exclaimed, poking Sam in the side. Sam turned and gave her a lopsided smile, and before long, they were all leaving the building.
Getting into the car, Scott, who was driving, passed the aux to Aiden to play her choice of music. Aiden being Aiden, she blasted some old hits of the 2000s, and soon everyone was jamming out in the car, singing their hearts out. Everyone except for Bucky and Steve, who had absolutely no clue as to what was going on and looked mortified.
They pulled up to Midtown fairly quickly, and already, people were staring. Since Tony couldn’t be there, he had insisted on giving them all a limo and made everyone wear their superhero suits, as if it wasn’t embarrassing enough to have them scream happy birthday as she exited the car.
The entire group got out of the car, and everyone stood and stared in shock as the Avengers sang a horrible rendition of happy birthday while Aiden simply stood there, stunned.
Then, Hope pulled something out of the trunk; it was a huge poster of her face with all of their signatures and a giant “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” text written across it.
They all pulled her into a massive group hug, and as Aiden was trying to pull away, she heard her name being called.
Turning, she saw MJ, Flash, and Ned sprinting towards her, all of them holding a bag or a gift box in their hands.
Aiden ran to meet them halfway and pulled Flash into a hug first. Then she punched him. Hard.
“And how did you guys know?!” She exclaimed. MJ pointed at someone behind Aiden.
“Him,” she said simply. Turning, Aiden saw Peter standing there shyly. She ran at him and jumped into his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist.
“This is the best birthday ever!” She murmured in his ear, then, in front of everyone, gave him a passionate kiss on the lips.
Everyone cheered, and Flash gave him a If you hurt her I will murder you look. Aiden was too distracted to notice that Steve had walked up next to her; he pulled her into a tight side hug and handed her his present. One by one, the rest of the group came up and handed her presents. By the time they were done, her arms were full and, honestly, Aiden couldn’t be happier that her family wasn’t here on her birthday.
With that, the bell rang for school, and the Avengers all waved goodbye as Aiden walked up the stairs and into the building, surrounded by the people she loved.
The rest of the day was amazing; Peter was constantly at her side, proudly showing her off, while Flash glared at any boy who even dared to look at her (including Peter). MJ was buzzing with excitement, which was quite unusual for her, and Ned talked everyone’s ear off.
At lunch, Flash pulled Peter off to the side to “have a little chit chat,” in his words. When they came back, Flash was grinning from ear to ear and Peter looked like he had just seen a ghost. When Aiden saw this, she kicked Flash in the shin.
“What did you do to him?” She whispered furiously.
He just smiled at her and shook his head. Aiden opened her mouth to say something, but stopped when her phone started ringing. Pulling it out, she saw that the caller ID said “Tony Stark”.
Smiling, she picked up and put it on speaker phone, saying, “Hi Tony! By the way, you’re on speaker phone so please don’t embarrass me.” Her table fell silent as everyone’s eyes widened.
“Uh, I think it’s a little late for that,” he said, the voice a little muffled.
Aiden frowned, and started to say, “What do you mea-,” when she was cut off by the sound of the cafeteria door opening and everyone falling silent. Turning around, she saw the one and only Tony Stark flying towards her in his Iron Man suit. Stopping right in front of her table, the front half of his suit dissolved and he stepped out, leaving the suit to hover behind him.
Tony smiled and held out his arms as Aiden rushed towards him. He bent down a little to squeeze her, causing her to laugh and look up at him. He grinned down at her, then climbed up onto her table, looking around at everyone.
“As I’m sure all of you know, I’m Tony Stark. And this here,” he points at Aiden, “is quite literally someone who I consider to be my daughter. So, you all be nice to her and wish her a happy birthday, or else. Have a good day!” With that, he stepped down from the table. When the cafeteria stayed quiet, he frowned. “Continue on with your conversations, come on!” Slowly, the volume rose to its normal rate and people started talking to each other again. Tony leaned down to whisper in Aiden’s ear, “Your present will be at the tower after school.” He leaned down and hugged her, kissing the top of her head. Walking away, he stopped and turned as if remembering something.
Pointing to their small group, Tony said, “All of you are invited to the Avengers Tower today after school with Aiden and Peter. Don’t be late!” With that, he climbed back into his suit and flew out the doors.
Turning back to her friends, Aiden looked at how all of them were processing. Flash looked like a fish out of water, mouth opening and closing with no sound coming out and eyes wide. MJ just grinned stupidly, and Aiden could already see the gears turning in her head of what inventions she was going to look at. Ned just sat there with his mouth hanging open, lunch long forgotten. As for Peter, he wrapped Aiden in an embrace and nuzzled into her neck, kissing it softly.
Aiden laughed and squirmed as he started to tickle her sides, trying to push him away. MJ snickered at them, and even Flash managed a grin.
For the rest of the day, Aiden kept getting birthday wishes from the most random people in her classes, even teachers. By the end of her last class, all she wanted was to go and be with her family. They might not be related, but the Avengers and her friends meant everything to her.
She practically ran out of her last period to find MJ, Peter, Ned, and Flash standing there, waiting. She smiled sheepishly. “Sorry for being late guys!” She said, and they all just shook their heads, laughing.
Aiden looked up to see Happy pulling up in front of the school, and she pointed to the car. “Come on guys, let’s go!” She exclaimed, and they all walked over to where Happy was waiting.
30 minutes later, they pulled up to the Avengers compound. Happy pulled out his pass; for security measures, you needed a pass to let yourself and/or a group of people into the building. Peter had one but Aiden didn’t. Flash practically fell out of the car when he opened the door, he was so shocked. MJ looked like she was preparing for a debate with the way she was concentrating, and Ned was too busy freaking out to pay attention to anything else.
Walking into the building, Peter and Aiden immediately noticed Nat and Pepper standing in the lobby, waiting for them. They made a beeline to where they were standing, the other three trailing behind. Nat and Pepper immediately wrapped Aiden in a hug, then said hi to the others.
“Hey guys, I’m Natasha!” She waved at them and Aiden gave her a look.
“Nat, I think they know who you are,” she said, rolling her eyes. Nat laughed and shook her head. “Anyways, this is Flash, MJ, and Ned!” Aiden pointed to each of them, and Pepper and Nat nodded at them.
Pepper started to walk them to the elevator, giving them a tour of the tower. Aiden grinned at how fascinated everyone was; MJ was asking questions at the speed of light, and poor Pepper couldn’t seem to keep up. Then, they reached the common floor, where everyone was waiting to see the group.
Once they stepped out of the elevator, everyone rose to greet them. Peter and Aiden introduced their friends, and everyone got acquainted.
Tony clapped his hands together, getting everyone’s attention. “This is cute and all, but I really need to show Aiden her birthday present. Follow me!” He set off towards the elevator, and everyone climbed in. Tony pressed the button to a level that Aiden had never been to before; it was right above Wanda’s floor.
The doors opened, and there was a huge happy birthday banner spread across the fireplace mantle of the living room. Looking around, Aiden realized it was a residential floor, which meant it belonged to someone.
The puzzle pieces started fitting together in her mind and she whirled around to stare at Tony.
“You didn’t!” She gasped.
He grinned. “Oh, but I did!” She rushed into his arms and gripped him tightly. He smiled and hugged her back. Peter just stared at them, confused.
“What happened?” He asked. Aiden broke away from the hug and grinned at him
“Petey… this is mine. This is my floor!” She exclaimed. He broke into a huge smile, then picked her up and spun her around. Bringing her to the ground, he peppered her face with kisses, making her laugh.
Tony broke them apart, and he led them to the master bedroom.  Opening the door, he showed everyone Aiden’s room; it was amazing. There was a punching bag and treadmill on one side of a massive king sized bed. She had a large desk to do homework, and an advanced looking computer sitting on top of it. The room was painted a light baby blue, which she loved. But best of all, there was a small key card sitting on top of the bed.
Walking over to it, Aiden picked it up and realized it was her very own pass to the compound. For the third time that day, she was moved to tears.
“Thank you so much!” She choked out, and they all moved in for a group hug.
Later that night, she had finally gotten around to opening all her presents. Peter had gotten her a small silver promise ring, along with a thin chain necklace that Aiden loved. Sam and Bucky had teamed up together and had gotten her new boxing gloves. Steve had gotten her a little Captain America shield plush toy, along with a small bracelet. Hope, Natasha, and Wanda had pitched in and got her a few weapons to learn to train with. Nat also gave her a ring that, when pressed, would turn into a metal glove that covered her hand, similar to Tony’s suit. It would have a repulsor as well. Bruce had gotten her a science book, while Rocket and Gamora had given her a small pocket knife. Peter (Quill) had gotten Aiden an old fashioned Walkman, along with some tracks to play on it. Drax and Mantis gave her a t-shirt that read “Kick names, take ass” (much to Aiden’s confusion), and Thor had given her a charm bracelet that had a little hammer on it. When pressed, it would send out a distress call to the Avengers, letting them know that she needed help.
Clint got Aiden her first bow and a few arrows to go with it, and of course Rhodey, Tony, and Pepper had teamed up for her own floor and pass.
It was safe to say that this was Aiden’s favorite birthday, and she couldn’t care less that her biological family wasn’t there.
