I wanted to add Breezie and the S6 Squad into my AU just cuz I thought it would be fun.

They don’t really have a major role in this. They’re mostly just a family support system besides Belle for Jackie, until she can work things out with Eggman (which will take some time).

Breezie and her older brothers all ran away from Eggman after Jackie replaced them. When Eggman abandoned Casino Park after his failed attempts to take down Sonic, Breezie took over the business, completely cutting Eggman out from any access to his old stomping grounds.

For her business, she doesn’t have any grudges, or ill intention towards the Restoration like with Clutch and Clean Sweep Inc. She purposely makes sure Casino Park has no contact with Sonic and his friends. And she especially tries to avoid anyone involved with Eggman, all to keep her business safe. But she does keeps an ear open for any gossip revolving him, just to make sure he won’t try anything against her.

Rumors have been circulating that Eggman has been losing his touch: falling victim to his own virus, losing his best weapon, and even Clean Sweep Inc. were making off him along with many other instances. With the mention of Eggman’s finest creation was “now lost,” Breezie did some digging and learned that Metal Sonic was no longer a part of Eggman’s utilities. With some extra digging, she found out that Metal Sonic had not only joined the Restoration, but also transitioned to become who she is now, Jackie the Hedgehog.

Still petty towards Eggman, Breezie uses this chance to reconnect with her younger sister, even though they haven’t interacted that much before she left with her brothers. If she can out class Eggman with taking over his failed casino, then why not rub in more salt into the wound then by being on good terms with his once greatest creation.

When Breezie goes out to find Jackie and proclaim she wants to “reconnect with her sister,��� Jackie doesn’t believe it at first. She knows that her older sister didn’t care to interact with her when she was first onlined. That same thought being shared among her older brothers. But within time, not only does Jackie open up to her older siblings, they begin to view her as family back.

Les McCann was already an established solo artist — a blues-forward jazz pianist in his 30s, with more than two dozen albums to his name — when he had a career-defining moment at the 1969 Montreux Jazz Festival. There, during an impromptu jam with the saxophonist Eddie Harris, he dug into a new song by his friend Gene McDaniels, which struck a cultural nerve.

The song was "Compared to What," an anguished yawp of disillusionment that Roberta Flack had recorded several months earlier for her debut album, First Take. McCann begins his version with a rollicking vamp, which he takes through a handful of escalating key modulations before a startling entry on vocals, two minutes in. With a soulful holler, he brings plainspoken fire to lyrics that skewer rampant greed, religious hypocrisy and the quagmire in Vietnam: "The president, he's got his war," McCann sings in the third verse. "Folks don't know just what it's for."

The song's temperament, outraged and despairing, captured something crucial about the era; so too did its rhythmic drive and righteous, consuming fervor. When Atlantic Records released "Compared to What" as a single, it spent four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100; Swiss Movement, the live album on which it appears, held a spot on the Billboard 200 for 38 weeks. The song remained a calling card for McCann for the rest of his musical career, which yielded many more successful albums — including a sequel with Harris, Second Movement, in 1971 — as well as samples by hip-hop artists like Massive Attack, Mobb Deep and The Notorious B.I.G.

McCann died on Dec. 29, 2023, at a hospital in Los Angeles, at 88, of pneumonia. Alan Abrahams, a veteran producer and record executive who served as his manager, confirmed his death, noting that McCann had lived at a nursing facility for the last four years.

With a ringing, percussive piano style and a rousing command of the beat, McCann always amounted to more than one breakout hit could encapsulate. The grit and grease in his playing, informed by his early experience in the gospel church, helped establish the subgenre known as soul jazz. That sound is already fully present on an album he recorded live in 1961, Les McCann Ltd. Plays the Shampoo at The Village Gate. (Along with "The Shampoo," an early hit, it includes McCann originals titled "Someone Stole My Chitlins" and "Filet of Soul.")

The urge to move his audiences extended to a new sonic palette when McCann embraced electric pianos and synthesizers — notably on the 1972 album Invitation to Openness, which features Yusef Lateef on assorted reeds and flutes, and Cornell Dupree on electric guitar. His subsequent albums with Atlantic, often incorporating synths and clavinet, formed the basis for his popularity as a sample source for hip-hop producers.

Leslie Coleman McCann was born on Sept. 23, 1935, in Lexington, Ky. His father, James, worked at the Lexington Water Company; his mother, Anna, was a homemaker who took occasional housekeeping jobs. He was one of six children, with four brothers and a sister. "​​Everybody was in a position of doing the best they could with whatever," he recalled in a 2015 interview with Red Bull Music Academy. "We never thought of ourselves as being poor."

Still, McCann grew up with limited resources, and was almost entirely self-taught as a pianist. He played sousaphone and drums in his high school marching band, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17. He often told a story about hearing Erroll Garner's recording of "Lullaby of Birdland" during his service, and having the sudden realization that the piano was his calling. But while stationed in the San Francisco Bay Area, he won a talent contest as a vocalist — an accolade that landed him an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956.

After his discharge, he formed a piano trio, which found work backing Gene McDaniels at the Purple Onion jazz club in San Francisco. McDaniels took the trio on tour, after which McCann moved to Los Angeles, working at clubs like the Hillcrest and signing to the Pacific Jazz label. The band that he called Les McCann Ltd. recorded a string of surefooted albums, and also played on the debut album by the jazz-R&B singer Lou Rawls, in 1962.

McCann eventually left the Pacific Jazz roster for Limelight, a Mercury subsidiary overseen by Quincy Jones, before landing at Atlantic Records. There his partnership with the producer Joel Dorn yielded a number of successes, starting with the 1969 album Much Les. Featuring McCann's electric piano against a complement of strings, the album also spotlighted his vocals, notably on a ballad called "With These Hands," which became a hit.

Here and throughout his career, McCann faced enduring critiques of his piano playing, which lacked the outward sophistication and technical precision of some of his peers, especially those who'd mastered the lingua franca of bebop. "I think what Les did musically, for most of his career, was really brave," attests Joe Alterman, a pianist who regarded McCann as a mentor, and released an album in tribute last year. "He wasn't a bebop player. He appreciated it, but he really loved these joyful piano players. So I think Les was kind of going against the grain."

McCann's most recent release, just out on Resonance Records, bolsters the point. Titled Never a Dull Moment! Live From Coast to Coast 1966-67, it features a few effervescent trio dates from the same era, at the Penthouse in Seattle (1966) and the Village Vanguard in New York (1967). There are, in fact, some bebop tunes, like Dizzy Gillespie's "Blue 'n' Boogie," in the set list. But the spirit of the playing has little room for bebop's idiomatic concerns. It adheres instead to a characterization of McCann from Bob Porter's 2016 book Soul Jazz: Jazz in the Black Community, 1945-1975, as "a pianist of enormously contagious enthusiasm."

McCann was certainly that, and more besides. He had a good ear for talent: He was the one who brought Roberta Flack to Atlantic, and he is credited with discovering the soul-jazz organist Richard "Groove" Holmes. And he was a gifted photographer whose portraits were anthologized in the acclaimed 2015 collection Invitation To Openness: The Jazz & Soul Photography Of Les McCann 1960-1980.

At the same time, McCann held a steadfast devotion to certain core principles, in music as in life. "The blues is definitely one of my major religions," he affirmed in a 1986 interview with Ben Sidran. "I mean, I like to think of whatever we do as something that's uplifting and giving to the world so that it's on the positive side, that is saying that we are here for a purpose. We are a part of this. We do count."

kind of a vent, kind of a story

the first and only toxic relationship i was in was in 7th grade (which hardly counts as dating when you're that young).

she was the new girl and i was enamored with her. i just didn't realize the difference between romantic and aesthetic love at the time. you have a hard time learning the difference when you grew up with "i lost an oreo" and "who do you have a crush on" and no one believing you when you say "no one".

i had known her for about a week before i walked up to her saying, "hey, there's this girl i like and i have a pickup-line for her. what do you think of it?"

and she looked at me, "is the girl me?"

we both started laughing and i awkwardly said yes.

and like that, we were "dating." i think the pickup-line was a reference to sonic and had something to do with rings, but i don't entirely remember it. or maybe it was something about angels. i don't know.

her name was destiny, and she had strawberry-blonde hair and was allergic to pollen.

i found this out when she rolled over on the grass and sat up with the pollen of a dandelion making the perfect imprint on the back of her maroon hoodie. and at first, i laughed and got ready to take a picture. until she said she was severely allergic.

so, some friends and i quickly wiped it off her hoodie.

she didn't tear up for being outside and surrounded by pollen-rich plants. and she didn't sniffle once. but i wasn't going to say anything. maybe she was able to hide her allergies.

everyone bullied her and one girl even told her to "kys." the english-language arts teacher heard her and asked what it meant. "oh, it means kiss yourself!" the teacher gave her a look, still not knowing what it meant, and told her to just not say it.

i snapped three different pencils in half in anger within the hour i was in that class. i had been bullied my whole life, and wasn't going to let someone bully my "girlfriend."

some time passed. whenever destiny vented to me about her shit stepdad and mother, i would listen and offer any sort of advice and comfort i could.

but when i vented about something mundane (almost missing the bus, an argument between my parents, forgetting my flute), she would always turn to talk to someone while i was midsentence.

i didn't get basic respect from her.

i had a hard time breaking up with her. by that i mean i didn't know how to phrase it. or how to do it.

so, i enlisted the help of a couple of popular girls to help me since it was summer by then and we didn't have anyway to contact each other outside of school. destiny never gave me her instagram, but i knew the instagram of the popular girls.

so, i asked for their help.

the following school year, on the first day of 8th grade, destiny came up to me and confirmed, "you wanna break up?"

"yeah..." and before i could explain anything?

"okay." and she walked off.

i felt free, but unsatisfied. unsatisfied because of her reaction.

i eventually shook it from my head, making me love harder. i fell deeper in love with my friends. they wouldn't be tolerating me if i was unlovable....right?

that was the first time in my life i wondered if i was unlovable. maybe it took more of a toll on me since my dad wasn't present the first six years of my life, opting to work or get in fights with my mom while she was both dying of cancer and in the first few years of remission...?

but sometimes i still wonder if they're only still talking to me just to be nice.

and i have to shake those thoughts from my head again. and again. and again.

i've noticed that my fear of being unloved seeped into my main rp character. it's even developed my constant need to take care of people and my worry if everyone's safe.

on another note:

i think that's why spongebob is my favorite comfort show. because he's always himself, no matter what. even if someone hates him, he doesn't really let it stop him. he has friends he loves and friends who love him back, even if they might occasionally need a break from him. they still love him despite how annoying he can get.

and i like to think that my friends love me despite how annoying i can get.

even if that little voice in my head says otherwise.

HUNTSMEN have unveiled details of their sophomore album, Mandala of Fear, and have announced a run of tour dates in support of its release. The recently expanded Chicago quintet have premiered the album's first single - "Ride Out" - along with an accompanying video animated by Seth Whitehurst of Shadow Puppet Horror Theatre.  

Of the track vocalist, Chris Kang, comments: "'Ride Out' simmers with the adrenaline and gut-churning dread of the dawn of battle. As one of humanity’s final wars ravages the land, sea, and air, a young soldier feels the coming storm in her bones and wonders if, when faced with taking a life, her rifle will be an extension of her will, or a lead weight in her hand.“

With Mandala of Fear, HUNTSMEN have returned to add a dynamic new chapter to the rich and varied tradition of great American storytelling. Massive in scope and spanning two full LPs, the album explores themes of trauma, recovery, and - ultimately - survival, through the lens of a fully formed sci-fi-esque tale set in the near future as unending desert war crumbles into apocalypse. The story is further told through a 32-page graphic novel that accompanies the 2LP set. Having enlisted Aimee Bueno to provide vocals for the final track of previous album, American Scrap, her role has since evolved into being an equal participant in the HUNTSMEN adventure.

While storytelling has been - and remains - at the core of all that is HUNTSMEN, they continue to dissolve the boundaries between metal and the more traditional modes of folk and country. Mandala of Fear marries melody and progressive elements to create an undulating foundation to layer its dystopian missive on atop.

Recorded at Decade Studios in Chicago with Sanford Parker occupying the producer’s chair, Parker’s own love of true American storytellers such as Waylon Jennings further imbued the spirit of the tradition into every crevice of the album, while his leanings toward icy electronic music provide a chilling and gut-wrenching counterpoint.

In addition to the Chicago show supporting Om on the day of release, HUNTSMEN will hit the road in the days after, several shows will feature labelmates Snow Burial. HUNTSMEN will also head to Europe in May to play Desertfest London - more live shows will be announced in due course.

Drummer, Ray Knipe commented: “We wanted to play some of the cities that have been supportive of us in the past, alongside some of our favorite local bands and friends. So Friday morning, my fiance' and I were headed to New Jersey to visit his family for Christmas. On the way there, I was driving his truck so he could sleep a little before we switched places. Early morning when we were in Virginia, I pulled off the highway to go to a McDonalds to get some coffee. When I pulled off, it was a weird exit and I had no clue where I was going. I stopped at a red light, which had another light very close behind it which turned green, my idiot self was looking at that light for some reason while our light was still red...I hit the gas and then slammed on my breaks realizing what I was doing but it was too late and I hit a guy on the side of the door. It wasn't a big wreck. The guy didn't fly across the intersection. He didn't even move, his door was just dented and it will definitely need to be replaced but the man said he was not hurt at all. The truck we were driving in barely had damage, just a little dent in the hood that was very small to the eye and a bent license plate. We were in much better shape; but again, he was not in pain and his door was the only thing that seemed to be damaged. ANYWAYS, I received a traffic ticket for failing to obey a traffic light which I totally accept because this was extremely stupid of me and I am planning on mailing the fine to the court. So since I was driving my fiance's car, which is under his parents insurance, I assume my insurance is not affected. The trooper just told us that the other guy's insurance will contact my fiance's insurance. So I am thinking all I have to do is just pay this awful fine. Well my fiance' called me this morning and said that Statefarm (the other guy's insurance) called him asking for my number. The Wreckers Reunite in Nashville

On Sunday Night in Nashville, Michelle Branch gave her fans something that they have been waiting on for over a decade: a reunion with Jessica Harp. The duo that made up The Wreckers shared the Nashville Stage at Marathon Music Works and serenaded the crowd with the beautiful harmonies they are famous for. After ten years without any musical collaborations, the night was pretty magical as Branch and Harp joined together to publicly reunite and sing a few of their hits. 

As recapped in Rolling Stone, the show started with a solo Branch singing a montage of her hits, including “All You Wanted” and “The Game Of Love.” Later, Branch introduced Harp to the stage and the duo serenaded the eager crowd with their No. 1 hit and Grammy nominated song, “Leave The Pieces.” They then went straight into “Tennessee,” another fan favorite penned by Jessica Harp. Although the reunion was made public before the show, the crowd still went wild over the beloved pop-country duo.

Who knows what the future holds for The Wreckers, but Branch did give a sliver of hope for new music from the duo. She told Rolling Stone, "We were on such a good little run. I didn't want us to break up. But I'd love to do a project that is sonically in that world again.”
