So what if when SQH arrived to PIDW he was fragmented into three different people?
1. He wakes up after he thinks is the end. He’s a young, beautiful woman. And apparently she’s a cultivator? Su Xiyan, they call her. She realizes she’s in her damn story playing the role of a character that’s meant to die. She hates it and tries really hard to change history but it’s useless. No matter how hard she tries she can’t get the palace master off her ass. Really, that dude is a creep.
She tries to run away but here’s something invisible keeping her there, spoiling all of her plans. It’s infuriating. So, she decides just not to play along. Ignore the plot.
Suddenly she meets a demon. They fall in love and it’s inevitable.
It’s doom. She knows what will happen to her, to him (her silly, lovely demon Lord, it’s hard not to love him— she never stood a chance), to her unborn child.
She cries and begs and screams but she’s imprisoned. Punished for loving the “wrong” man.
It’s hard to remember but she manages to scape. Her last memories are Luo Binghe’s cries. It’s cold, oh so cold, and she hates herself for writing something so sad and depressing.
2. He’s a child again. Not sure how that’s possible, but he’s living and breathing. Shang Lei is pretty sure he died in a very pathetic and pitiful way.
For a long time he thinks it’s just a dream. But the hunger and pain feel real.
Shang Lei finds out he’s living in the PIDW universe when a cultivator visits the town talking about the recruitment for Cang Qiong Sect. He wants to laugh and cry and run the other way but then a blue screen pops up scaring the shit out of him.
A system, he has a system. Now he understands this second life is not for him to enjoy, but to fix his own story (excuse you??? Fix???).
He’s forced to join the sect, to join An Ding, and it takes an embarrassing amount of time to realice he’s Shang Qinghua, the cannon fodder.
It’s depressing and anxiety inducing but he has no other option but to obey the cruel system.
He meets Mobei and he swears it’s love at first sight. Obviously he promises to follow him forever —the system intervention is not needed.
Years passes, he becomes head disciple. It’s hard, unpleasant work. He hates it with all his gut. But the system needs him to be a Peak Lord, so Shang Lei becomes Shang Qinghua.
He’s nervous, Binghe’s birth is near. He knows it, he has been keeping track.
And one day… it happens.
His head feels like it’s been split open. He screams and everything turns black.
When he wakes up he’s at Qian Cao infirmary. Mu Qingfang is trying to talk to him, her?, but he’s overwhelmed by the memories flashing in front of him.
It hurst so much, physically and emotionally.
The system is apologizing to him (a first, really,) talking about a glitch and diving his soul. Qinghua is not listening, he can barely breathe. All he can think of is his baby and her darling husband now imprisoned under a mountain.
Before he can think of running of there and look for Luo Binghe (he’s just baby— he needs me! ) the system warns him.
He’s not allowed to find him. He’s not allowed to save him.
Mu Qingfang witnesses the worst second case of Qi deviation he has ever seen in his life.
3.
He wakes up. She’s a woman, an old woman. Her body hurts from hunger, cold, and age.
It must be a dream, she thinks. But when she wakes up the next day, and the next, and she’s here. Shang Lei has to accept his reality.
He died, and instead of just… dissolving or some shit, now he’s an old woman (really, what the fuck?) with no name, no family, and no money in a xianxia universe.
It’s shitty, really shitty.
She tries to… adjust. It’s not easy and the people of this town is extremely cruel. She still manages to find a job as a washerwoman. It’s hard on her because of her age and the seemingly eternal cold of this cursed town, but it gives her enough to buy food so she tries not to complain much.
The loneliness is the issue. Sometimes is too much to handle. She cries and begs the gods to send her someone, anyone, just to stop feeling so lonely.
And then it happens.
A cold morning, a river, a child.
She jumps into the water ignoring the freezing temperature and fights against the current. She almost drowns but it’s worth it. Because now she’s holding in her arms the most beautiful and adorable baby boy she has ever seen in her life.
Her heart feels so full. A child, her child.
There’s no doubt in her heart. This child is hers.
“Luo Binghe,” she says and laughs. It’s silly, her own little private joke to name her child like her protagonist, but isn’t it a nice coincidence?
He, like her protagonist, was floating down the river in the coldest day of the year and was found by a washerwoman.
A washerwoman just like her.
A washwoman…
A baby…
A river…
.
.
.
Huh.
… no matter, she raises Binghe. He’s such a polite, lovely child. Her perfect little gentleman. She tries to teach him about love and kindness, even when the townspeople are cruel and mean Binghe needs to be good!
He’s so smart and grows so fast it makes her proud. But she’s afraid, she can feel her body becoming weaker and weaker with each passing day.
It’s just her and Binghe, no one else. If she dies he’ll be alone.
Her sweet boy tries to help, and when she inevitably falls ill he works hard to put food on the table for both of them.
Sometimes he arrives dirty, his eyes filled with tears and bruises on his face. He always gives her a warm, big smile when he sees her and her heart aches.
Her time is coming, she knows. And she begs him to be good, to be kind even when it’s pointless. She no longer tries to deny it, Shang Lei is aware in which universe they are living.
The last thing she sees are the eyes of her beautiful child filled with tears begging her not to leave him.
4. SQH wakes up in QC again. He’s numb and Mu-shidi looks alarmed, he seems discussing his state with the sect leader (what is he doing here?)
The memories of Luo Binghe’s mother, his/hers, fills him with both warmth and sadness.
She raised him, she managed to raise her son. Even if she didn’t know she birthed him, she loved Luo Binghe as her own and did her best to give him a home.
But now he’s alone… and Shang Qinghua can’t reach him. Because the system is stopping him, threatening to hurt him or his son if he dares not to follow the script.
It’s so unfair and twisted, he wants to cry. But he can’t fight so he’s forced to watch his son grow from far away… Abused, beaten, and punished.
He despises SQQ and plans on killing him. But then he has a Qi deviation so strong his whole personality changes and suddenly his son is finally treated with respect and love and Binghe seems to adore his new Shizun (maybe a little too much??? Young man! That man is way too old for you!!!!)
Life is good, for a while.
Binghe is thrown into the abyss, he finds out SQQ is a transmigrator (but unlike him he wasn’t split), they form and alliance and so much shit happens that his story is no longer his.
It’s different, good. Binghe is happy, his old lover is free (still as handsome as the day they met), Mobei has promised to threat him better (i love you, do you love me, my king?) and he has no system to worry about anymore.
… But he stares at Binghe sometimes. Yearning for him. To hold him and kiss his forehead and she used to do when he was a child.
Unfortunately it’s not possible. Binghe hates him (please I beg you, the system forced me, —) and sees him as nothing more than a rat.
He tries his best to pretend it doesn’t hurt, but whenever LBG insults him he locks himself up in his rooms and cries. He could tell him the truth since the system seems to be gone but Shang Qinhua is paralyzed with fear. He knows he wont be able to survive Binghe’s rejection. So, SQH lowers his head and takes it no matter how vicious Binghe’s comments get when his cucumber-bro is not around.
.
// ran out of ideas—
I haven’t decided how but ???? Maybe one day SQH talks with Tianlang-Jun and the demon is reminded of a beautiful cultivator of his past and is instantly captivated. He follows him around much to Mobei and all the other demons dismay. It makes Binghe uncomfortable because that man is his father, why is acting like with SQH of all people?
(Mobei and Tianlang-jun fighting for SQH’s attention— him earning a reputation for having the former emperor and the second strongest demon in all the realm after him. SQH remains oblivious to it, thinking they are just being nice)
(SQQ: airplane this is so fucking dumb what kind of extras are these????)
(Binghe gets… suspicious. Tries to get closer to SQH to investigate— is this a plot to usurp the throne? What’s so special about him?
SQH is just glad his son is paying positive attention to him! No insults, no mean comments! Is he doing something right? He wont question it—
• SQQ jealous shenanigans.
• SQH slipping and using his other life knowledge to spoil LBG.
LBG: ????? Wtf???? How does he know i like this? Why— how? Is he stalking me?
SQH: I made this dish for Jungshang—
//tastes just like his mother’s cooking.//
LBG: *cries*
• TLJ and MBJ temporary truce. They can’t lose SQH to LBG.
• SQQ still losing his shit: wtf you hack author this is my husband!
• SQH and Binghe bonding, very wholesome, very cutesy. Binghe is really conflicted but this… it feels familiar. And… Shang-shishu smells like his mother???? Oh, he’s crying again.
Yeah, that the idea I hve so far idk feel free to use it or add anything I’ll go have breakfast now 👍🏽

Yes This Fear's Got A Hold On Me
Zayne x gn!Reader
Literally drabbled this out earlier while cooking dinner bc it hit me so hard. I think I'm just in the mood for putting Zayne through angst rn
Title from "Death" by White Lies
Warnings: angst, hurt/comfort, fear of death, overthinking, domestic moments, established relationship, rain/storms, recklessness, self-sacrificing behavior, cooking/food

“I can’t answer the phone right now, I’m too busy kicking Wanderer butt! Leave a message and-”
Zayne sighs and hits the end call button again. Every call goes straight to voicemail. He can’t help but be worried.
The rain is coming down in torrents outside. It hits the windows like angry fists. The wind howls like wolves in the night. The streets are flooded, but even if they weren’t you took your bike into work today and all public transport is closed. He called your coworkers earlier, just on the off chance you actually listened to the shelter in place warnings, but they said you’d left an hour ago.
His pacing is going to eat through to the apartment below if you don’t turn up soon. He tries calling one last time. Not two words into the automated message, he’s ending the call and shoving his phone in his pocket.
He shrugs on his coat, prepared to make the last ditch effort of going out there to find you himself when there’s a knock on the door. One sleeve hangs half off his shoulder as he swings it open. His heart is caught in his throat.
You force a smile through chattering teeth. A puddle forms under your feet on the welcome mat, with smaller puddles trailing down the hall from the elevator. “My hands are too pruny,” you manage, gesturing with a nod at the door handle and its biometric lock.
He doesn’t quite register your words, pulling you inside hurriedly. Your shoulders are soaked with water where he touches them. Your whole body is soaked with water. He helps you take off your coat. It drops to the floor in a wet heap to be dealt with later. “Did you walk all the way here?” he asks. He already knows the answer.
You nod. You tuck your hands in your armpits, desperate to contain what little warmth you have left as he helps tug off your shoes. Your socks are soggy and uncomfortable. A forceful chill wracks your entire body, before settling back into the consistent, exhausting chills they were before. “I was gonna call, but my phone died.”
Well, that explains his last 20 minutes of frustration. “I’ll scold you after you get warmed up.”
“‘Preciate it.”
He shakes his head as he takes his coat off to wrap it around your shoulders. It’s ever so slightly warm from the short amount of time he had it on, enough to provide a smidge of relief.
Your steps slap against the hardwood as you’re led across the floor he was pacing only minutes ago. He leads you straight to the bathroom and abandons you by the sink to start running the water for a shower. You whine at the sight of even more water.
“Aren’t I wet enough?” You know it’s for the best, but you feel oddly reminiscent of a cat being forced to take a bath.
Zayne doesn’t dignify your complaint with more than a stern look. As the water runs, steam starting to billow up overtop the glass doors, he returns to you and steals the dry outer layer you’d only just gotten. You whine again, unbidden. He has the decency to look a little sorry as he continues to strip you down. “You’ll be warm soon. While you heat up, I’ll make you dinner.”
You shiver. Goosebumps raise up all over your body, exposed to the unforgiving air. You rub your arms. “You don’t have to.”
“It’s for my own sanity, if you must know.”
On any normal day, Zayne’s hands usually ran pretty cold. You liked to joke that it was because he’s a doctor, and all doctors seem to have cold hands all the time. Right now, they feel so warm against your skin as he helps you into the shower, under the blessedly hot water. He doesn’t pay attention to the water that gets on his sleeves as you cling to him. You think you see a hint of a smile before you close your eyes and put your face right under the spray, shuddering with the temperature shock.
“Take your time. I’ll leave some clothes out for you.” He shuts the glass door and gets to work gathering the soaking wet clothes left behind. If you didn’t get sick after this, he’d have to write it up in a medical journal as an unexplained phenomena.
“Thank you~” you call out.
He shakes his head, though you can’t see it. You really drive him up the wall, sometimes. Walking for an hour through a monsoon for no justifiable reason is up there in the most stress-inducing things you’ve done on the ever-growing list he has. And yet, here you are, thanking him as he takes care of you, fighting against the possibility of a cold that hangs overhead like an undeniable certainty. God, he loves you so.
He closes the bathroom door behind him and beelines for the laundry room. All your clothes go into the wash. Your coat gets hung up to air dry. He stuffs your shoes with newspaper to draw the water out. Then, to the bedroom, where he pulls out some fresh, dry clothes for you to change into. He sets them on the bathroom counter, listening as you quietly hum to yourself. At last, he gets to work preparing your favorite hot drink as he works on making a batch of soup.
All the while, his body readjusts to the fact that you’re okay. He hones in on your humming while he chops up vegetables, willing himself to relax and release all the thoughts that had plagued him before - terrible images, all made worse with his own medical knowledge putting names to all the conditions and effects that could have destroyed you. The rain knocks on the kitchen window as a cruel reminder of what could have been.
But none of it happened. You’re here. You’re only a couple rooms over, taking a shower. You’re here. You’re going to drink from your special mug and sigh with the first bite of your soup. You’re here. You’re going to be safe in his arms tonight, fast asleep, not face-down under the harsh flood-
The image of your bloated body, drowned and lifeless, jolts through his system like an ice bath.
You’re here. You’re here. You’re here.
He stirs the soup around the pot.
The water of the shower shuts off when it’s just about done. He pulls down two bowls from the overhead cabinet and ladels some into both. Though he doesn’t really have an appetite, he knows he should eat something. Maybe the normalcy of a quiet night in will bring it back. For now, he puts more of the savory concoction in your bowl than in his.
Your socked feet don’t make much sound as you shuffle through the apartment to the kitchen. The sleeves of one of his many cardigans is bunched up at your elbows, as they’re far too long on you otherwise. The sight of you in his clothes - something he didn’t lay out for you to change into, nonetheless - only makes the fear in his chest ache even more.
You smile at him, apologetic and grateful all at once. “I’m ready for your lecture now,” you say. He can see the way you seem to brace for it. The way you avoid looking him directly in the eye, like a child who knows they’ve done something bad and is about to be grounded for it. The way you pick at the threads of the cardigan, restless and anxious. The way your shoulders bunch up toward your ears without you even realizing, preparing for the blow of his scolding.
It’s all too much.
You look up at him with wide-eyed confusion as he crosses the short distance between you and wraps you up in a tight hug. His face is pressed securely into the crook of your neck. His hands rest on your back, drawing you close to his body. The warm air of his sigh graces your skin when you hug him back.
“Zayne?” You gently pet his hair. He doesn’t let you pull back to see his face.
In all your time with him, he’s never hugged you like this before. You can feel the way his fingers curl around the knit of his cardigan, the slight shudder in his breath, the tension in his muscles.
“Please,” he whispers - begs, “don’t do that again.”
Slowly, as the realization begins to sink in, you squeeze him tighter.
It’s easy to throw yourself into danger - you do it every single day at work. If you get hurt, you’re saving someone else the pain. If you get a scratch, a civilian doesn’t. If you break a leg, someone else gets the chance to run away. It’s a commendable trait for a Hunter.
You didn’t realize how painful that would be for someone else.
“I thought… I thought getting back home would… I didn’t want you to be alone.” The explanations all feel hollow, for how true they are.
“What if you didn’t make it?” he questions. His voice is tight with emotion. It’s locked away under a layer of severity. “Nobody had any idea where you were. All I knew was that you weren’t at work. If the storm overpowered you, we wouldn’t know. I wouldn’t know.” He holds you tighter. “I’d rather spend one night alone than the rest of my nights alone. Do you understand?”
You nod immediately. “I’m sorry.”
He exhales shakily. “Please, think of your own safety first. Just once.” His fingers slowly release their hold on you. His shoulders fall as he reluctantly lets you go. His eyes stare into yours like a turbulent forest, trees kicked all around by hurricane winds. “Are you still cold?” he changes the subject. You let him.
“A little.”
He takes your hand and leads you to the counter with the bowls of soup and your favorite mug. “We can eat this on the couch. By sitting together, we can conserve our warmth.”
You tug on his shoulder lightly. He leans down without restraint, watching you. You kiss his cheek. “I love you,” you remind him, feeling as though you need to after the hell you must have put him through.
He closes his eyes for a second, taking in those wonderful words. When he opens them again, the hurricane has been reduced to nothing more than a light breeze. He looks at you with all the love of winter giving way to spring. “I’m glad you’re safe.”

Timelines of love
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Ekko x Reader
Word Count: ~2,000
Genre: Angst, Tragedy
Summary: When you’re fatally caught in a Firelight raid gone wrong, Ekko uses his Z-Drive to try and save you. But no matter how many timelines he rewinds, the outcome only grows more devastating. Caught in an endless loop of grief and guilt, Ekko struggles to decide: should he let go or keep trying, knowing he might never succeed?
Warnings: Violence, repeated character death, grief, and emotional turmoil.
Tumblr media
Ekko adjusted the dial on his Z-Drive with shaking hands, ignoring the searing pain in his ribs. The world around him shimmered like broken glass as time bent to his will. He clenched his jaw, focusing on the moment he needed—the instant before everything went wrong.
“C’mon, c’mon,” he muttered through gritted teeth.
The light enveloped him, the sounds of chaos fading until they were replaced by a familiar scene: the Firelights’ hideout, moments before the raid. The scent of oil and grime mixed with the faint sweetness of the flowers you kept in a chipped vase.
You were there, standing at the table, running your hands over a makeshift map of the Undercity. Your brow was furrowed in concentration, your lips moving silently as you reviewed the plan. You were always so focused, so determined, and it made his chest ache to see you like this again—alive.
“Ekko?” You looked up, startled. “You okay?”
He couldn’t stop himself. He crossed the room in two long strides and pulled you into his arms, burying his face in your shoulder. You froze, confused by the sudden embrace, but then your arms came up to wrap around him.
“Hey,” you murmured, voice tinged with worry. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” he lied, his voice muffled. “Just… wanted to hold you.”
You pulled back to look at him, your hands cupping his face. “You’re a terrible liar, you know that?”
Ekko laughed softly, his heart twisting in his chest. He couldn’t tell you the truth. He couldn’t tell you how many times he’d already seen this moment play out. How many times he’d tried to save you.
It always went the same way.
The Firelights set out to intercept a Shimmer shipment. The intel seemed solid—too solid. The ambush turned into a trap, and chaos erupted. Somewhere in the middle of it all, you were caught in the crossfire. A stray bullet. A collapsing structure. A knife meant for him.
Every time, you died.
And every time, Ekko rewound the clock, trying to change the outcome.
This time, he made sure to stay close to you, never letting you out of his sight.
“Stay behind me,” he urged as the team crept through the shadows, his voice low but insistent.
You rolled your eyes. “I can handle myself, you know.”
“I mean it,” he said, grabbing your wrist. “Promise me.”
You hesitated, studying his face. There was something in his eyes—something raw and desperate.
“Okay,” you relented, your voice softening. “I promise.”
The fight erupted moments later, gunfire and shouts tearing through the night. Ekko’s staff whirred as he deflected bullets, his movements precise and calculated. He fought like a man possessed, every strike aimed at protecting you.
But no matter how hard he tried, no matter how fast he moved, it always ended the same.
This time, it was an explosion. A stray spark ignited a barrel of Shimmer, and the blast sent you flying.
When the dust settled, Ekko found you lying motionless amidst the rubble, your promise to stay behind him broken.
He rewound again.
And again.
And again.
Each attempt grew more frantic, more desperate. He changed the plan. He changed the route. He even tried convincing you to stay behind entirely, but you refused every time, your determination unwavering.
“I’m not sitting this one out,” you said firmly, crossing your arms. “You need me out there.”
“I need you alive,” he snapped, his voice sharper than he intended.
Your expression softened, and you stepped closer, placing a hand on his cheek. “Ekko, you can’t protect me from everything. We all take risks. It’s part of the fight.”
He wanted to scream, to beg you to understand, but what could he say? That he’d watched you die a dozen times? That no matter what he did, he couldn’t save you?
Instead, he nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat.
In one timeline, he managed to keep you out of the fight entirely. You stayed back at the hideout, safe and sound. For a fleeting moment, he thought he’d finally won.
But the mission failed without your help. The Firelights were ambushed and outnumbered, and Ekko barely made it back alive.
When he stumbled into the hideout, bloodied and broken, the look on your face shattered him.
“You should’ve let me come,” you said, tears streaming down your face. “I could’ve helped. I could’ve—”
“I couldn’t risk losing you,” he interrupted, his voice raw.
“But you’re okay risking everyone else?” you shot back, anger and grief warring in your expression.
He didn’t have an answer.
In another timeline, he tried sending someone else in your place. But when the Firelights returned, it was with news of your capture.
He led a rescue mission, determined to bring you back, but by the time he reached you, it was too late. The sight of your lifeless body, bruised and broken, haunted him long after he rewound the clock.
No matter what he did, the timeline refused to bend. It was as if the universe itself had decided that you were meant to die.
The final attempt was the hardest.
Ekko stood in front of you, his hands trembling as he held your face.
“Promise me you’ll stay safe,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
You frowned, confused by the intensity in his eyes. “Ekko—”
“Promise me,” he repeated, cutting you off.
“I promise,” you said softly, reaching up to brush a tear from his cheek.
It wasn’t enough.
He knew it wouldn’t be enough.
This time, he didn’t rewind.
When the fight broke out, he stayed by your side, doing everything he could to shield you. But when the explosion came, there was nothing he could do.
You were thrown to the ground, blood staining your clothes as your breathing grew ragged.
“No, no, no,” Ekko muttered, dropping to his knees beside you. He pressed his hands against the wound, desperate to stop the bleeding.
Your eyes fluttered open, and you gave him a weak smile. “Ekko…”
“Don’t talk,” he said, his voice breaking. “You’re gonna be okay. I’ll fix this.”
You shook your head slightly, your hand reaching up to cup his face. “You can’t fix everything.”
Tears streamed down his face as he clutched you tighter. “Don’t say that. Don’t you dare say that.”
“I’m glad I got to fight by your side,” you whispered, your voice growing weaker.
“No,” he choked out. “You’re supposed to stay. We’re supposed to have more time.”
But your hand fell limp, and the light faded from your eyes.
For the first time, Ekko didn’t reach for the Z-Drive.
He sat there in the aftermath, cradling your lifeless body as the reality of your loss settled over him.
No matter how many times he rewound, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t save you.
The Z-Drive hummed softly on his wrist, a cruel reminder of the power he held—and the limits of that power.
In the days that followed, Ekko carried the weight of your memory with him. Your laughter, your determination, your love—they were all etched into his heart, a painful but precious reminder of what he had lost.
He still wore the Z-Drive, but he never used it to return to that moment again.
Some things, he realized, were meant to be let go.

Actually, I changed my mind. Imagine that Ghost spends what could’ve been an eternity rewinding every time Soap died. Ghost tried relentlessly to change the outcome that the universe seemed dead set on.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That’s what Ghost always heard people say, but the only result he will accept is a world where Soap is alive and well. He’ll rewind for an eternity if it means Soap will walk out of that tunnel with that grin on his face.
The sight of Soap’s body crumpled on the ground and the scent of blood is burned into Ghost’s very being, but so is the sound of Soap’s laughter and the sensation of his lips on Ghost’s.
Ghost wept the first time Soap died. Sometimes he still does. Sometimes he gets angry or even just laughs, but most of the time, Ghost goes quiet and bears the horrible, sinking feeling in his chest that makes him feel like he’s going to start choking on it, like it’s all gone, like his whole fucking soul has shattered—then he breathes out, concentrates, and starts over.
Ghost starts over and over and over again, doing something different each time to change fate itself, living the same few hours so many times that no number could ever define how hard and how much he’s tried—but then one day, it works.
Soap lives.
The universe is cruel and uncompromising, but Ghost’s love perseveres more than it ever could.
Pssst. Hey, imagine that Ghost somehow gains the ability to rewind time and he tries countless times to try and save Soap in the tunnel, but he can’t find a way to make it work—because there is no world where Soap is meant to keep living, there is no universe where Ghost’s sun keeps shining, and there is no place for good people like Soap anywhere but in the ground.

RESTART
My submission for an angst event, and I'm gunning for the win /j
For real though, had a lot of fun writing this! It's based on my promptober day 29 response, though you don't have to read it to get the jist, hope you enjoy!
Word count: 2,998
☀️🌙☀️🌙☀️🌙☀️🌙☀️🌙☀️🌙☀️🌙☀️🌙
You double check that there's no one around, and sit back down on the box you were previously moping on. In particular, backstage. Sun wasn't likely to look for you here, not liking to leave the Daycare and all that. Though, he had been getting more comfortable with it lately, which meant you'd have to start finding more hiding places.
You stare down at your hand, you'd come to accept it as that now. It works just like your original, it flexes, bends, grips just the same. It's just pure white, and completely mechanical now.
The rest of your body functions relatively similar to how it did before, too. At least, you think it does. You'd like to say it's because you've lost track of time since the incident that you can't tell. In reality, you know it's been seven months, 19 days, 21 hours, and 7, 8, 9-god, you still struggle with getting that to quit.
No, it's just that you've been like this so long, you don't know what it feels like to be human anymore. Your thoughts are still human, that much you're sure of. Sun doesn't think like you do, from what you understand. He doesn't like to talk about it much, he doesn't like to talk about what happened at all, frankly.
You get it, he feels ashamed, blames himself for it. But still, you don't think it's fair that you can't even acknowledge how much has changed. Your entire life is here now. You can't never leave the Plex, never go home again. You're stuck here, forever, it seems.
You want to say that you tried harder to find a way to, fix this? move past it? you don't know. But you didn't. You didn't try to contact your friends, your family, anyone. You just, accepted it. What choice did you have? Besides, as far as you knew, nobody seemed to notice you were missing, so you guess it wouldn't have mattered in the first place.
You sigh, and then laugh at the sound. Your voice is hardly still your own, the metallic ring always noticeable to you despite your best efforts to ignore it.
To Sun's credit, he had tried his best to make this entire ordeal as comfortable for you as possible.
No Moon, that much had been established. You think he was also afraid of what the naptime attendant was capable of, if he could so effortlessly kill murder destroy harm you, without a second thought. Though, you were surprised to find that Moon did avoid you when the lights went out from time to time-not nearly as often as before, you're still trying to determine how Sun managed that one-not even sparing a passing glance.
Additionally, you had your own space, in their room, that is. Still, you treasured the area where you could put a bed, books, and other such items that you no longer had a need for-but they helped. They helped.
And, while reluctant, Sun allowed you time to yourself when you needed it. You could tell that despite all your reassurances, and the amount of time that had passed, he was still concerned about you potentially, having a glitch, as he called it. You called what happened when you first woke up like this a psychotic break, but you digress.
Regardless, if you weren't running errands, or helping out in the Daycare, you typically chose to be by yourself. Far away from the place. You could tell it upset him, but to be honest, it was hard to be in there 24/7, you don't know how he did it.
Besides the obvious fact of the matter that you'd died there, it was just too much. He was just too much.
The music, the noise, kids running around, screaming, crying. Now that you were a bot, they didn't treat you nearly as nicely. You got beat up on, a lot. More than once having to have Sun patch you up or repair you after a long day.
And Sun. You, at one point, you think you had loved him. Loved Moon. But that had been a long time ago now. Before this.
And it wasn't even that you couldn't feel the emotion anymore, or hell, even because of what happened.
You just, you'd grown hollow. Maybe it was because seeing each other all day every single day got to you. Maybe it was because of his constant attempts to get you to engage, doing crafts together, watching movies together, playing games together. Even a few times where you went out in the Plex on these little 'dates' because that's what they were, no need to pretend.
Maybe that's what it was, all this, pretending. He always just wanted to move on, have everything okay without putting the effort into making it okay.
You don't know anymore. But what's new?
You lean back against the wall, eyes closing. Even like this, you still have that damn interface pulled up, unavoidable with its synoptics of your system.
You see there's a notification in your messages. Opening it, you're unsurprised to find it's one from Sun.
'Starshine! You've been gone for a bit now, everything alright?'
You answer shortly after reading, 'Fine. Just taking some quiet time.
Doing that meditation thing you suggested.' An obvious lie to you, but he buys it. He always does.
'Oh! I'll leave you be then. I knew it would be just the thing to help :)'
You scoff, opening your eyes and shaking your head. Resentful. You've grown resentful. And that, that makes you feel ashamed more than anything.
You send back a quick reply, ':)'
It wasn't his fault. You know it wasn't. You called it 'the incident' but you truly don't believe it had been intentional. Though any attempts at an explanation were shut down immediately. And not in the same, nervous way every other similar discussion was. This was a firm 'No' with no exceptions.
Whatever had happened to Moon to cause him to act that way, it seemed to scare Sun badly enough that he'd even snapped at you one time.
"Sunshine, I won't tell you again," Sun warns, "We're not talking about it. It doesn't matter. Moon is fine. Okay?" He shakes his head, "He's just, not feeling so well these days. But I have it under control, do you understand?"
You'd been taken aback by his tone. Too, shocked, and honestly a bit frightened, that he'd lashed out at you like that to say anything.
He sighs, coming over to where you stand. He hesitates to put his hands on your shoulders when you flinch, and instead clasps them in front of him.
"I don't mean to sound harsh, Love, but it's for the best if we just drop it. Please."
You find yourself nodding, muttering a quiet "Okay."
"I'm sorry," This time he does initiate contact, pulling you into a tight hug. He doesn't tower over you quite as much now, so it's not as awkward as it used to be.
"You know I love you, right?" He asks in the quiet, voice low.
You hum, "I know."
He seems to be waiting. If you still could do so, you'd be biting your cheek to steel yourself.
"I love you too," You say after a moment or so.
Sun pulls back, and leans down. Your faces touch and there's a brief, soft, static between the two of you until he stops kissing you.
"I mean it. I love you. More than you know."
Even though you can't return the feeling, you didn't doubt that he meant it.
The memory replay is interrupted when you hear voices off in the distance.
That was another thing about this new body of yours, all of your senses were heightened to a degree that was borderline uncomfortable.
You double check your location is undetectable-something Bonnie had taught you early on-and listen in. You weren't a snoop, but sometimes you needed help passing the time. And this was one such example.
"I just don't know what else to do, Freddy," Sun's voice, you'd know it anywhere, "I've tried everything! I don't know what it will take for things to just..."
Freddy's tone is soft, encouraging, "Just what, Sun?"
"Go back to normal? I, I know it can't be like it was, then, before, but, but surely I can get their old self to shine through again, right?"
You realize they're getting closer to your spot. Shit. You need to hide.
Quickly, you duck behind another stack of crates, pressing yourself snugly behind them.
Just in time for Freddy's voice to become clearer as they walk backstage, "I'm afraid it's not that simple, my friend. You still haven't told them the full story, have you?"
You peek just slightly out from your hiding spot, able to just see the two bots standing not far from you.
"N-no. But, I'm going to! I swear I will. I just, I need more time," Sun's hands grip his rays, "I have to win them over again first. That way, that way it won't hurt as much."
Freddy seems to want to say something, but doesn't.
Instead he puts a hand on the taller bot's shoulder and smiles, "I know you'll do the right thing, Sun. Now, I believe Monty has challenged Roxy to an arm wrestling contest, would you like to join?"
"I would! But, I'm afraid I lack the skills nor the strength to participate myself."
They walk off then, chatting happily, but the conversation sticks with you. What did Freddy mean by full story? What did he know that you didn't about your own, demise.
A message pops up in the corner of your vison. You expect it to be from Sun, inviting you to watch the match.
It's from Moon.
You're... more than just surprised. You hesitate, but end up opening it.
'I can tell you the truth.
If you'd like.'
You panic, you swore your location had been off, you know it had.
You play dumb, '?
What are you talking about?'
'I wasn't with him, I just happened to notice your signal in the system coincidentally at the same time.
He doesn't know you were there, if you're worried about it.'
'How can you do that?'
'Does it matter?
Do you want to know or not?'
'I shouldn't even be talking to you. I don't want to be talking to you.'
'Aw, still upset are we?
I don't blame you, but I think once you have the full picture, that may change.'
You don't answer, sitting back and looking up to the ceiling. You're debating. You want nothing to do with Moon, especially because he doesn't even seem the least bit remorseful, which, hurts more than you'd care to admit, but still. You do want to know what happened. You want the truth.
And god do you want someone to talk to. Really talk to. About your death, and just in general.
'Fine. Tell me.'
'Not like this. Later. When he's busy.'
'He's not busy now?'
'When I'm in control.'
'Why? What's that have to do with anything?'
'It's more fun that way.'
Seems despite everything, he's still got that same cheeky personality.
'Alright. Give me and time and a place and I'll be there.'
Once that's sorted, you exit your hiding space, going to join in the festivities briefly with the other bots. You'd say it was difficult to pretend everything was fine, but that'd just be lying in and of itself. You try to have fun, at least. Afterall, as far as you can tell it's only Sun and Freddy hiding things from you.
Right?
When the lights go out in the Daycare, Moon doesn't approach you immediately. Instead, he heads out for his usual patrol. About ten minutes later, you receive a message.
'Catwalks above Monty Golf.'
You take that as your cue, and head that way. Upon arrival, you spy Moon juggling several golf balls to amuse himself. When he sees you he stops, catching them one by one.
Something stirs in you, and you clap. He seems surprised at this, but bows anyway. The moment takes you back to-you shake your head, everything is different now, and dwelling on the past won't change that.
"Alright, let's hear it," You keep your distance, leaning against the railing out of his reach.
You don't think he'd hurt you, but you'd thought that back then, too.
Moon notices your choice it seems, and chuckles, "I don't bite, Star."
You stay firm, his eyes narrow at this.
"It's better to show you than it is to say, and for that, you need to come closer."
"And if I don't?" You cross your arms.
He tsks, "Then you won't get the full story. And that's what you want, isn't it?"
You pause.
"I won't harm you. Not this time. I promise."
You scoff then, "You've made a lot of promises, Moon-man," You curse yourself for letting the nickname slip, "What proof do I have that you'll keep this one?"
"You don't. But he's also made promises, don't you want to know which one's he's kept?"
If you could, you'd be biting your lip right now.
"He has everything to gain from lying to you. I do not," He holds out his hand, "What's your choice?"
You consider your options, but you'd already made your choice before showing up here.
You take his offer, hand resting on top of his, "You break this trust, and you'll regret it."
His hand grips yours and you're suddenly spun around and then lowered into a dip, Moon's other hand on your back to secure you.
"I wouldn't dream of it," He leans in, and as he grows closer you swear there's a flash of purple in his optics, "Now hold still, and watch."
Your vison glitches, and you're no longer on the catwalks. Instead, you're standing in the hallway outside the Attendants' room. Inside, you hear an argument occurring.
Before you can do anything else, a hand rests on your shoulder. You glance up to see Moon. He puts a finger to his smile, then leans over you and cracks the door slightly.
Inside, you can see Sun pacing back and forth, and another Moon? Sitting on the dresser. One leg swinging back and forth as he watches the fretting playtime attendant. You take note that there's, an air of static around him. Causing a hazy effect around his entire, otherwise relaxed, form.
"What do we do, what do we do?" He asks, hands gripping his rays, "They're leaving, they're leaving and they're never going to come back."
Other Moon rests his head in his hand, "They just mentioned potentially moving divisions. It's not for certain, and they'd still be around even if that was the case."
"But they want to go, Moonie. They'd rather a different job than working with us. Do they hate us that much?"
A shrug, "I thought the kisses I got the other night proved otherwise, but maybe I'm misinterpreting."
Sun makes a noise of frustration, "You're no help with anything anymore! Ever since you-"
"Ever since what?" Moon growls, and his visage grows darker, the entire room darkening and glitching.
Sun cowers, putting his hands up and things return to normal, "Since you're, upgrade, you've been, less than supportive, to put it plainly."
Another shrug, Sun goes back to pacing. At that moment, other Moon seems to notice you and waves cheekily, but says nothing.
His counterpart suddenly stops his movement.
"What if, what if they, couldn't, leave?"
"You're going to make them stay in a job they hate?" Moon tsks, "How selfish, Sunny."
"Yes, but no, I-" Sun hesitates, really, hesitates.
This piques other Moon's interest, he sits up a bit, "Go on then, I'm on the edge of my seat."
"What if, what if something happened to them, that made it so they had to stay... Forever?"
Moon pauses, then chuckles, "You're not suggesting what I think you are, are you, Sun?"
"It's for the best," Sun argues, seemingly mostly with himself, "They're not thinking straight. This would, this would help. And then, we'd never have to worry about them leaving ever again."
Moon stands, walking over and putting a hand on the playtime attendant's shoulder, "You can't take this back, you know. There's no do-overs, no fixing things. This is final."
"I know," Sun nods, "And you can, take care of it?"
The edges of the room shift again as Moon snickers, "Can't do your own dirty work, Sunny?"
"You say that as if it doesn't benefit both of us," He mutters.
"It won't. Not for a while. You can't change their memories, they'll know what happened. It's just the cause that will be, murky."
Sun shakes his head, "They'll never know. I'll make certain of it."
"Are you sure about that?" Other Moon asks, and points to the door where you stand, partially visible.
Sun's eyes widen, and the world around you starts to crumble.
With a gasp, you find yourself back on the catwalks, stumbling away from Moon.
You're shaking, and your system starts sending warning signs of an overload.
You hear a click.
Looking up, you see that Moon's reached over to a nearby switch, and the light's start to come on one by one.
"Good luck~" He snickers, bowing one final time as rays start to pop out from his faceplate.
Sun's face snaps to yours, immediately starting to walk towards you, hands up, "Starlight, you have to listen to me-"
You can't. You won't. And you don't get a further choice in the matter, either.
In your haste to get away, you stumble back against the railing. And panicking, trip, and tip backwards. Sun reaches out for you, but it's too late, you're falling. You're about to go through so much pain all over again, and all you can think, the only word you can see, is 'LIAR'.
LIAR. LIAR. LIAR.

Tumblr media
(@ftl-faster-than-life HI THIS TOOK A HOT MINUTE WEH Also thanks Tumblr for eating my asks again smh) oH BOY, WHERE DO I START Oh Barry, Barry, Barry, my sweet babygirl, how you've been so incredibly villainized by this fandom I'm going to take this opportunity to address and debunk as many misconceptions about Barry's character that I can remember, in the case if someone who doesn't really know Barry all that well is reading this or to hopefully change some people's minds~
* "Barry is boring": Well, yes but actually no. That's the beauty of Barry--he is designed to be your average, unassuming everyday kind of guy. Problem is, a lot of people think that's all there is to him, but that's really only just the surface.
He has flaws. He's prone to making decisions without consulting his family if he thinks it's for the greater good. You need to explicitly tell this man if you wanna be his lover because he absolutely can NOT read romantic cues to save his own life, he's a guilt sponge, he's weird, he LOVES science and comics and is a huge nerd!! He gets jealous!
Guys-Guys?? He's aN ELDRITCH HORROR??? HELLO????? He is CONSTANTLY living in sheer and utter denial and is desperately grasping his extremely thin veneer of being human, and yet, because of this, he actually puts his family in more jeopardy. Do you even realize how fascinating that is
Barry is a character who also deeply craves companionship/people. He struggles with depression and suicidal tendencies ever since being resurrected. He tries so hard to be what everyone else wants him to be and meet their expectations while failing to take care of himself in the process. He's so much more complex than just "Wally's nice father figure who died in Crisis". People also tend to equate "boring" with "being good/kind" which, you know...I very much disagree with but that's just my opinion * "Barry is racist!" LOL This one is just so wildly incorrect. The origin of this misconception comes from an out-of-context panel Justice League of America #173) of Barry being angry about Black Lightning joining the JL. If you read the whole page the panel comes from, you'd see that in actuality Barry is NOT angry about a black man joining the League but rather, he's angry that that seems to be the only reason Oliver wants him and Barry is (rightfully) calling Oliver out on that. There has been no other time where Barry has a problem with people of color
* "Barry is a Republican" I don't even know where this fanon came from. I think this may have originated from Wally's run where Wally was a conservative and he just assumed?? Barry was the same??? Which is SO laughably wrong (Wally bby, stop projecting on your uncle challenge) For the major part of Barry's original run (and honestly, the majority of the Flash runs after that), he remained largely apolitical . People see a white guy from the 60s and automatically assume he's right leaning /shrug * "Barry's a cop!" Yeahhh, not quite actually. He's a CSI, a forensic scientist, not a blue collar badge sporting cop. He's the behind-the-scenes guy, the one who studies the crime scene and tries to piece together the evidence and bring the culprit to justice. There IS a difference. But people don't really care about the technicalities, tho, they just want to hate Barry and him being "basically" a cop is a fast and easy excuse to do so. And DC certainly isn't helping matters with them constantly pushing the cop agenda for him (thanks a lot DC) * "Barry is sexually-repressed": This is a headcanon I seen a fair amount of and--okay, I get it. Barry is shy and reserved and blushes up a mad storm when someone compliments him. I can see how that might lead people to interpret that as him being sexually repressed/being a prude. But like....Buddy. Homie. Amigo.
This man had more canon sex than Hal Jordan. He and Iris were getting it on FREQUENTLY in the Silver Age and that's not me exaggerating. Just look at Flash #197 where it was Barry's birthday and he and Iris made out and stayed in bed practically the whole day together. Maybe you could say they just did that in the morning and they did other things later buuuut I don't believe that for a minute lol. Or! In Flash #195 where Barry was late to a ceremony of a submarine departure because (you guessed it!) he was too busy exploring his wife's mouth. Just because Barry doesn't make sexually-charged remarks or cop a feel from Iris constantly doesn't mean he's opposed to sex. I see it more as him just being way more private and reserved about it, but he IS very much down to fuck as she is (or Hal! Whichever your ship may be~)
While we're kinda on the subject, I'm really not a fan of the whole Barry being "shojo-fied/uwu-fied" thing, if I'm being honest?? Like, yes, if you give him any kind of compliment, he will blush furiously and stutter. But that's different from him being totally ignorant on what sex is/being a weak, delicate little flower who needs a "Big, Strong man" like Hal to save him (also, like...can we stop treating Barry as the "girl" of the ship just because he's skinnier and smaller than Hal pls and thank you). He is an mid-20-30 year old adult man. And a forensic scientist who probably seen a lot of sex-related crimes in his line of work. I'm pretty sure he knows what sex is, guys (in fact, he would be the guy who actually hosts Sex Ed classes bc the misinformation out there is staggering lol)
"Barry is weak/one of the weaker superheroes": Ok, I've never seen anyone say this persay, but it is very evident in how people portray him a lot of the time. They see his smaller frame and the fact that he runs fast to mean he's a glass cannon (Honestly they do this to a lot of the other speedsters as well) which hi! Wrong again! Speedsters are actually INSANELY durable little dudes. He could tank a punch from Darkseid. He can drag MASSIVE SHIPS behind him!! Wally once punched Eobard with the equivalent force of a dwarf star. Yeah. Now I get whump, I personally love it, I do, but I also enjoy seeing Barry being the absolute powerhouse he is. He can vibrate through solid matter, he can manipulate frequencies, and he's incredibly smart with how to use his powers, always thinking up on the spot improv strategies and techniques! Please stop nerfing him, guys, speedsters get too much of that from the writers OTL * "He's conservative because of his buzzcut!" Ok this one actually had like, a whole article?? On it?? And it truly is so wild lmao. When the only thing people can find to hate a character on is his haircut, you know they have no basis for their argument lol * "Barry is abusive!" Nope. Not even close. People love to pull this as a "gotcha" to Barry fans, regarding the panels of "Barry" beating up Wally and verbally abusing him (The Return of Barry Allen). Except....that wasn't Barry, that was Eobard disguised as him. You know...if you read the full run, you would know that lol You literally couldn't find a more least abusive person than Barry lol. Which actually leads me into the next one... * "Barry was an example of toxic masculinity!" AH yes, of course, with how he's so openly kind and compassionate, how he loves kids and animals, how he openly cries and shows emotion, how he's super respectful of people regardless, how he chugs Respect Women juice all day everyday, how he's contributing to fundraisers to help impoverished people and further medical progress, how he's so concerned about the state of the environment and is firmly against consumption of fossil fuels, how he constantly tells his son nephew he's so proud of him and that he's his hero, how he runs home after work bc he's genuinely so excited to see his wife, how he loves her SO much and smothers her with kisses every chance he gets UGH. How does Iris stand him /s And since we're talking about Barry and how the fandom treats him, I can't not talk about the elephant in the room--Flashpoint To start off, lemme preface this real quick:
FLASHPOINT WAS NOT BARRY'S FAULT
He DID NOT intend to trade the lives of his family for his mom He DID NOT run back in time because he was jealous of Wally (uhh lmao what???? Yeah, I can't even begin to explain how wack that is) He DID NOT run back in time because he was "selfish" and "wanted his mommy back" (unfriendly reminder that Nora is a separate character and shouldn't be treated as just an appendage of a male character <333) Some actual context for non-comic readers: Eobard killing his mom is actually an aberration of the true timeline. It was PERFECTLY REASONABLE to assume that it would restore itself to its original version!! Barry had also traveled in time before in the comics without any repercussions or ill effects, so there was NO CONCEIVABLE REASON FOR HIM TO THINK ANYTHING OF THE SCALE OF FLASHPOINT WOULD EVEN HAPPEN If people had read the issues preceding Flashpoint, they'd see Barry did all of that for Nora!! Because he despised the fact that she had to pay with her life because of a villain of his!! That it wasn't right for her to die for his sake!!
Tumblr media
"But Eobard said Flashpoint was Barry's fault-!" EOBARD is A BITCH ASS LIAR who purposely twists the truth to hurt Barry as much as he can!! Of COURSE he would say that!! What ACTUALLY happened is that Eobard is the one who somehow made Nora's death such a critical and important fixture in time to the point of just tempering with that can cause a catastrophic domino effect. Flashpoint is EOBARD'S FAULT and HIS ALONE (and Idk, Doctor Manhattan's too ig if you wanna include him)
Barry loves his family and cares so, so, SO EXTREMELY MUCH. He could literally not be any prouder of Wally if he actually tried!! Everything he does is for his family, even sacrificing his own mental health and happiness for them and it makes me SO sad to see everyone cling to this butchered version of him in their minds (though it's not entirely their fault, DC is also definitely to blame)

Was there a point in Yuu’s life to where she lost a fight with someone who was out of her league in boxing. To make it more interesting, make it another female boxer who had years of experience but is the same age as her? How did she take it? How did the rest of NRC found out? How did Ramshackle and Rollo found out or felt?
In her world, it was too someone in her class with more experience than her despite being the same age. Yuu got cocky and lost as a result. She wore that angry chip on her shoulder for a few months before meeting the girl again, where she lost to another fight, but got closer that time. Yuu decided that girl would be her rival from then on.
This actually spurred Yuu into working hard to best her and actually managed to win against her rival before her dad died and she left for Japan.
That story would only come up if one of the boys asked about it and Yuu would casually talk about the girl like what had happened was no big deal.
Grim: Of course it's a big deal! You lost! You can't be the greatest cause someone was stronger than you!
Yuu, making brownies: Do you guys have rivals...outside of RSA? And whatever rival you had, Rolls?
The boys and Rollo shook their head.
Fellow: Gidel and I never had any rivals, well, not ones we took personally. Living on the streets, everyone was your rival.
Gidel, nods:
Yuu: Well. How do you think I got like this? *takes a boxer pose as she quick weaves around* That speed I have isn't natural. I had to develop that to deal with her. Learning to read how you guys throw punches and the works also came from fighting her. You don't learn anything from winning all the time.
Sebek: She's right! Lilia-san would often pit Silver and myself against one another! We learned from each other and adapted out fighting styles accordingly!
Ortho: Nii-san does that....sometimes. He tends to grumble that he lost to an overpowered weapon set.
Rollo: I've never thought of it like that.
Yuu: Leona has one in Malleus. Riddle and Azul have one. Vil and Neige. Of course, Leona and Vil tried killing their rivals, but that's a story for another time.
Fellow and Rollo: They did what?
Yuu: ANYWAY. The point is, you can't learn anything from winning. You don't learn your weaknesses and it's gonna hurt when someone comes along and does know them.
Jack: Hmm. I haven't thought about it like that.
Epel: Then is that why you don't have a tell when you fight?
Yuu: Oh, nah, I picked that shit up from getting into way too many street fights with my girls.
Boys: You what?
*Timer goes off*
Yuu: Brownies are done!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The boys are stunned that Yuu could ever lose, but Yuu is used to it so she never has any issues.
And the same would go for her older years when she's starting to pick up her boxing career. She actually lost two matches in the minor leagues to the same woman, but Yuu ended up beating the woman 3 times. Yuu had found a new rival.

Hello, I'd like to ask for 15. "Your silence speaks more than you ever have. And, I'm not sure why it took so long for me to notice", Buck and Bucky in canon universe :)
oh my goodness yes, Bucky can read Gale so well when he's silent, he's one of the only ones who can truly understand what Gale is going through even when he doesn't talk
----
When Buck went silent, it usually explained more than Gale could ever explain through words alone.
He didn't talk much to begin with, it was either casual banter with John or orders to subordinates, but he didn't run his mouth like John did. Whenever John was distressed or anxious or exhausted he would talk until he couldn't talk anymore. Gale wasn't like that, and John had to learn how to read Gale like no other.
Even now as the flares went off and people cheered for the end of the war; Gale was silent. All he had done was reach for John's flask and delicately bring it to his lips, John knows that was his first sip of alcohol in a long, long time. He didn't say anything, not until the flares had long died down and the sounds of cheers grew distant. Gale just kept looking up at the sky, almost like he was expecting it to open up and drop bombs on them. It didn't seem like he believed it.
"Can you believe it, Gale? All of this, all of the fighting, it's all done," John says and he hates that his voice wobbles ever so slightly because he's not sure he believes it himself. He's waiting for the red light to glow again, for Colonel Harding to order him on another mission. This couldn't be real.
Gale, of course, stayed silent, but he looked over at John and sighed something heavy. His eyes were searching, and John mustered a smile just for him. He reached a hand across and held Gale's chin while he kissed him gently, just the short press of lips on lips. But when John moved to pull away Gale's hands shot out like a gunshot, grabbing onto John's arm and pressing their foreheads together, eyes squeezed shut as he inhales long and deep.
"Gale? Something wrong?" John asks and he can see Gale take a breath, another big one that tried to fill his chest, and shake his head. He stumbles on some words, but his grip on John's arm gets tighter.
John nods, moving his hand so he can hold Gale's bringing it up to his lips and pressing a short kiss to the back of it. It's dangerous, they're out in the open on this control tower but John doesn't care. It's the end of the fucking war, people can turn their eyes away from a private moment for just a minute.
"Do you want me to stay? Because I can, doll, I'll stay with you as long as you like," John whispers and feels some comfort when he feels Gale nod his head against his face.
Gale's grip on his hands gets tighter and his face screws up again, pushing his nose into John's cheek as if he's trying to fit into John's skin. John takes Gale's head and presses their cheeks together, pushing his own nose into the hair that had started to grow on the nape of his neck. He didn't smell like his aftershave anymore, and it hurt John to realize how different everything was now.
"I'll stay, I swear I'll stay. Even when we're back in the states. I ain't never leaving you again, Buck," John whispers, and it's a confession if he's ever heard one.
Gale turns his face to press himself further into John's cheek, and John can't help but huff a laugh.
"Your silence speaks more than you ever have. I'm not sure why it took me this long to notice," John whispers and he can feel Gale smile against his cheek.
"I don't know, John, what took you so long?" Gale says, voice breathy from not speaking for hours.
It makes John smile, and he needs that. He needed to smile and he hides a small laugh into Gale's cheek again, arm coming up to wrap around Gale's body so he can hold him in an embrace.
Everything was different now, but in some comforting way, everything remained much the same.

@maybe-im-dark Want some angsty sweetness?
| | |
"He was sick, you know."
Logan stops dead in his tracks, because this abrupt change in topic was entirely unexpected. "Pardon?"
"My Logan." She continues, idly looking through the cereal on the shelves as they peruse the grocery store. "He was sick. That's what actually killed him."
"Oh." He's deeply uncomfortable with this, but he likes Laura, and she deserves to be heard, so he lets her speak.
"The wounds would keep bleeding and he got infections in his hands. Sometimes I saw him have to pull out his claws, or push them back in. Bruises would linger on his face and he would keel over from exhaustion constantly. He even needed glasses to read." She smiles slightly, fond and distant. "But he tried. By god, did he try. He gave everything he had for us, for me. In the end, that meant his life too."
"Ah." He has nothing to that. Even if he wanted to die - and fuck has he ever tried - he knows he can't.
"It meant a lot to me, to be worth protecting and dying for." She briefly meets his gaze with a knowing quirk of the lips. "It's hard to feel saved by someone else when you heal no matter what."
"Yeah." He admits softly. "It can be."
"It meant a lot, and it still does. No one will ever replace him, or become who he was to me." She puts a box of Wade's favourite cereal in the cart, then grabs its edge so he doesn't push any further. She's tense for a moment, face shielded by the curtain of her hair. "I'll love him forever for it. But it's an ugly feeling, being died for. You're alone, without that safety you've come to know and no idea if you'll ever feel it again - just that this instance of it is gone forever."
He takes her hand, heart breaking in sympathy. "I'l sorry, kid."
She meets his gaze again, always so sure and steady. "You'll never be him."
"I know. I-"
"I wasn't done." She cuts in and he snaps his mouth shut. She keeps him pinned under her dark eyes. "You are not a replacement for him, because I was lucky enough to get to lose him and I am lucky again and get to keep you."
He squeezes her hand, overwhelmed with sentimentality. "Laura ... "
"I got to grow up because of him, but I want to grow older alongside you. You're not him, and that's good. I want someone alive to love me too." She looks away again. "To be safe with."
He can't help himself and pulls her into his arms, hugging her tightly. "I will be. Always."
She hugs him back, face buried in his shoulder. "Good."
Now I like me some angst with Laura and Logan however there is much more potential with it being less angsty.
Laura morning her father yes but Worst Wolverine as a replacement wouldn't be as angsty as some people imagine.
Laura could never replace the men who saved her life but she isn't trying to. That Logan loved her deeply even if he didn't show it, but he was dead now. He sacrificed himself for her and she would always be thankful for that.
She however isn't tore up about growing close to the new Logan. She knows her father would want her to move on to love how she chooses and so she does with no reservations. This new Logan is just as much her father as the other and neither are replacements.
Worst Wolverine of course is doubtful he's more torn up about it than Laura herself. He isn't that kind of hero he insists on it. Laura just shakes her head at him and explains he is also her father any Logan is.
She is sure her Logan wherever he is is proud and happy that she can move on. She has Logan and Wade now did she just knows that wherever he is watching he couldn't be prouder.

Thoughts on a Harding betrayal based on a poll I ran last week. Spoilers for Veilguard below!
I think that for Harding to betray the party, a very specific set of conditions would have to be met. I don't see her betraying the party on a whim, nor for anything less than absolute certainty on her part that this is right. I also dont see her siding with the gods, so her betrayal would have to revolve around Solas, specifically killing him, which I think aligns well with her belonging to the OG Stop Solas group. I'm also going to say that this would require Harding to be romanced by Rook or for something to happen to Taash.
Here is the game progression I think would be necessary for Harding to snap:
1. Rook must be vehemently against Solas in all beginning dialogue choices. Even when Harding expresses how she feels pity for Solas, Rook must be unforgiving and rigid.
2. Paradoxically, Rook encourages the Inquisitor to consider forgiving Solas. This sets up the betrayal scene.
3. Have Harding embrace her anger. Rook makes it clear she has every right to be mad at Solas for what he did. Maybe afterward, add some party banter that demonstrates just how zeroed in on that anger she is. I could see a particularly interesting exchange between Bellara and Harding. The party members are a little apprehensive of Harding's anger, even maybe explicitly saying that they're worried about it consuming her.
4. Before the Ghilin'nain fight, Harding expresses fear of someone dying. In response, Rook tells her that she should trust herself to make the right decisions during the fight and, more so, to trust her ability with her bow -- "You always aim true, Lace."
5. Davrin is sent on the diversion mission and dies. This causes Harding to feel regretful that she didn't push harder to lead the distraction team. She becomes convinced that to prevent death, she must act rather than wait for permission. Also, she has to be alive to betray you, lol.
6. A romanced Rook is stuck in the Fade prison, and Solas is released. I can imagine some codex entries here of unsent letters from Harding to her Ma, expressing regret that she did not shoot Solas when she could've. She writes of watching Davrin fall in her place and how guilty she feels. She laments the loss of the farm, the fate of her neighbors, and the fall of Ferelden, placing blame for it all on Solas. She wonders what he will take from her next. If Rook does not romance Harding, Taash is kidnapped instead of Bellara/Neve. This step is the biggest conduit to Harding's decision to kill Solas before he can threaten or imprison anyone she loves again. After all, without Solas attempting the ritual, the gods would've never been made free, Davrin would be alive, and Rook/Taash never separated from her.
7. A scene is added where Rook reveals to the party in more detail that Solas used blood magic on them to make them see Varric. I know this happens off-screen, but maybe zero in on Harding's reaction to this. Emphasize the disgust and anger.
8. In the final one-on-one talk with her before the fight with Elgar'nan, I'd think it'd be interesting for there to be one more chance to talk her down from her anger, but it'd require a Mythal-esque dialogue tree to accomplish. Anything less, and she's going to force the binding.
9. When at the confrontation with Solas, Rook tries to resolve things peacefully. Harding, overcome with grief for both Varric and Davrin, furious at her lover being threatened by Solas, and having fully embraced her anger, shoots Solas with her bow, leading to a fight sequence and leaving Rook with no choice but to bind him to the Veil violently. There is a callback here to Harding taking this shot, just like she should've before at Solas' ritual in Arlathan (or so she says).
All in all, I think Harding's betrayal here should revolve around the theme of the game: regret. Let me know what you think or if you have any ideas. I may write something revolving around this AU if there's interest :)

The breaking point for Mien regarding his feelings towards Davrin actually happens at the moment he learns that a Warden must die in order to defeat the Archdemon.
As soon as he hears it he is shocked but his Crow training kicks in. Keep your heart cold. Don't get attached. Get the job done. And maybe this is good actually. If Davrin dies right now, while they haven't become that close, maybe this will be easier. Maybe it'll save him from another heartbreak.
But Davrin survives. Even though their mission ultimately failed, Mien feels that for the first time in his life fate smiled on him. He feels such immense relief, he didn't even realise how the thought of Davrin's death weighted on him. And the thought of feeling that weight again terrifies him.
So Mien needs to convince Davrin that surviving is a good thing. He realises that when he tells Davrin to keep living, he doesn't say it as his leader or as a Crow who needs his tools to finish a contract. He says it as Mien who needs Davrin.
And he starts to think that maybe if he tries hard enough this time, he can finally keep someone by his side.

Bro Nexus pulling all that crap on Sun during the podcast is literally just emotional manipulation
Like, I think one thing Sun does need to understand is that just because he killed Nexus, doesn't make him (Sun) a bad person. And that is the main reason he was hallucinating seeing Nexus.
In my opinion it isn't as black and white as this but for example let's say it is:
The thing that makes you a bad person is if you feel remorse. When Nexus went around torturing Moon and Solar, then trying to kidnap Sun, then ACTUALLY kidnapping and once again basically torturing Moon. And there is SO MUCH MORE that he did, I'm not even scratching the surface here. When he went on the podcast after he died, he showed no remorse. He wasn't guilty for what he did. In fact he found fun in doing it. He enjoyed watching Sun struggle and after he died, didn't find any guilt or felt a hint of remorse for what he had done
Whereas with Sun, it was completely different. Obviously the whole situation spanned from Sun not realizing Nexus wasn't like Moon until it was too late. He tried apologizing but like I said, it was too late for that. And even after everything that Nexus did too, Sun still loved him and that's what made it so hard on him when he DID have to make that choice. And I think a main part of it too was that (and I will keep bringing this up) even after what Nexus did and what a horrible person he was, Sun felt guilty for killing him. Even though he did it to save Moon (and potentially so many more, we don't really know what Nexus' plan was after he killed Moon) Sun still felt guilty for killing Nexus, even if it was for the best.
(I also think it's important to note that Sun definitely takes a while to understand situations, he's getting better at it but I think that's why it took him so long to realize Nexus wasn't at all like Moon)
So I think just in general, what determines whether you are a bad person or not is based on your emotional reaction to a situation
Anyways if you have read this far tysm, ik I can rant a bit but seriously tysm!!

Belobog was my fave main quest but a lot of it is so. Contradictory. It's like they had multiple groups doing different shit and none of them checked in with each other for consistency. And you see this so much in Gepard's profile.
So in the main quest, they made him unfailingly, unquestionably loyal to Cocolia. Gepard's character arc is him learning to question authority etc etc. And this isn't even a bad thing; that's a story worth telling! It makes good conflict between him and Serval! And I love that we got Gepard as a boss battle and I get to see him all the time in SU!
But then you look at his character stories and it's like. The complete opposite.
Tumblr media
According to his profile, Gepard has already HAD this awakening, long before the Astral Express, and he'd already decided Cocolia sucks. Even outside of his stories, there's a pretty damning readable between him and Pela.
Tumblr media
He even disobeyed direct orders right in front of her- he has been disobeying orders for a while now!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I've decided I'm marrying the two different sides of this into a 1.5k fic-ish thingy, because I think there's some fun potential there with Gepard not trusting Cocolia, but still having to pretend to be a good obedient little soldier.
Anyway. I love to think of it as like. Gepard knows Cocolia has sunk into her apathy. He can see it in her eyes every time he looks at her. She doesn't care. Not about him, not about Pela, not about all his soldiers on the frontlines giving their lives to protect the citizens. And that's... It makes him bristle a bit, but ok. Gepard can deal with this. Even if Cocolia no longer cares, as long as she does her job then it's fine. Having compassion behind an action doesn't matter as much as the action itself. If Cocolia's heart is no longer swayed, then he'll just have to care twice as hard to pick up the slack. He considers it part of his duty as a captain of the guard anyway. It's fine. Gepard can deal with it.
And then, Cocolia starts coming down to the restricted zone. Issuing direct orders.
And Gepard realizes he is in way over his head.
Because Cocolia orders him to stay back and issue commands from the ramparts, away from all his comrades, away from where he can protect them.
Gepard had thought nothing could be as bad as watching a fellow guard die right next to him. But the first time he watches someone struck by a killing blow, so far away, it hurts. Every defensive scar across his arms itches, his fingers curl in want of a weapon, the cold cannot numb his hands enough as they desperately ache for his shield. It hurts.
Gepard tries to find any reason to stay. Because surely... He knows Cocolia has lost her love for her people, but surely... She wouldn't...
One day, Cocolia orders for their gunners to advance 20 yards. There are no survivors. She almost looks like she smiles.
Gepard doesn't sleep that night.
Pela brings him the report at the end of the first month; and then the month after that, and the month after that. A significant uptick in losses, and all of it started on that first day Cocolia started overriding his authority and issuing her own orders. The ends of Gepard's pens have all been nearly chewed off. Pela outright calls Cocolia an idiot, and Gepard corrects her. Cocolia isn't an idiot. Gepard had known her through Serval, knew her through all her college years and then some, and he knows how intelligent she is. It's not that she's stupid, and it's not that she's inexperienced, it's nothing of the sort.
Cocolia knows exactly what she's doing.
She must, there's no way she could make such a horrible mess of things so badly by accident. And Pela, quick as a whip, sharp as a tack, always too smart for her own good, catches onto the meaning behind Gepard's correction without any further prompting. The tent goes deathly quiet, nothing but the wind howling outside.
"...She's trying to kill us," Pela whispers, her voice swiftly suffocated by the silence.
Gepard swallows. He can't bring himself to correct her this time. There is nothing he could say that he would actually mean.
His gaze drops, back down to his desk and the reports on it. The names aren't listed, just the numbers, but Gepard knows them, knew them, and there must be something wrong, something he's missing, because why, why would she-? What could this possibly accomplish-?
“Gepard! Focus!” Something snaps right under his nose, and Gepard startles, eyes instantly honing in on Pela's irritated face as she leans over his desk. She holds his gaze for a moment before she huffs and begins to pace, wedges a knuckle between her teeth and bites like Gepard hasn't seen her do since cadet school.
Pela angrily strides from one end of his tent to the other, words hissed between her grit teeth. “What are we going to do?” In the dim lighting, Gepard can just barely see the damp spot of blood weeping under her gloves. “We need a plan.”
“A plan?”
“Wh- Yes, a plan! Unless you want more people to die!” Pela rounds on him then, all the wrath of a blizzard, winds roaring and snow sharp enough to cut.
“We don't even know-”
“What does it matter?! She killed-!!” Pela cuts off with a garbled noise when Gepard leaps up from his desk, hastily shoves his hand over her mouth. The prosthetic, not the flesh one, because he knows better than to assume Pela won't seize the opportunity to leave teeth marks in his skin.
“You're right. I'm sorry, I'm sorry; you're right. But you need to keep quiet.” Pela quirks an eyebrow at him and Gepard can read the question in her face. “Because we both saw what she did to Serval,” he hisses.
It's amazing the snow plains haven't thawed out yet, the amount of heat Pela can put behind a glare. The mere mention of Serval, and the smoking ruins Cocolia had made of her life and career, have her bristling up like a riled cat. The sudden hot breath she takes fans fog across his metal skin, and Gepard wisely keeps it in place until Pela finally sighs and reaches up, taps her fingertips against the back of his hand.
The second she's free, Pela bats him away and then her knuckle is right back between her teeth again, Gepard leaning back against his desk with his arms crossed to watch her resume her pacing. “If we spread the word, she'll have us discharged and make sure we can't even touch the frontlines,” Pela's voice seethes like an open sore. Gepard nods but keeps his silence. He knows better than to get in her way.
“And if you and I are both out of the picture, Belobog is fucked.” A little harsher than how he would have put it, but there's no denying that they're both important to the city's survival. Pela has the restricted zone running as efficiently as ever, and Gepard had become the youngest captain on record for a reason. “We need to keep this tight under wraps, at least for now… It can't leak to anyone higher up the chain.” Another nod. “Serval might know other discontents…” Another n-
Gepard's head snaps up. “No.”
“No what?”
“No. We're not involving Serval in this.”
Somehow, even the same tone that leaves entire squadrons shaking in their boots has never worked on her. “You're not deciding that for her, Gepard.”
Pela hadn't seen the worst of it, though, back when his sister had just been banned from the Architects. Serval's pride hadn't allowed it. Pela wasn't the one to find her passed out bottle still in hand, hadn't been the one to wash the sick out of her hair or carry her to bed.
Serval still has trouble thinking clearly when it comes to Cocolia, still can't quite bring herself to be objective. And Gepard maybe doesn't want her to be purely objective- but he would worry a lot less if she thought twice before she acted more often.
“At least let me be the one to bring it up to her.”
“Whatever, fine,” Pela gestures affirmatively at him as she paces past, and Gepard sighs. Good, at least that's one thing he can help.
From there, it's a lot of hemming and hawing and frustration. Cocolia has them under her boot, and Gepard and Pela both know it. Even with the way she's been cracking down on freedoms lately, Cocolia is still, overall, liked by the people. It's unlikely anyone would believe them. They don't even have solid proof, because most people don't know Cocolia as well as they do and won't see the clues in the same light.
The Fragmentum has been ramping up in recent years, too. Everyone is struggling just to survive as is, they can't afford a fight on two fronts. Gepard is a damn good captain, one of the best for that matter. But they're at a massive disadvantage, his experience is narrowed to fighting a defensive battle against monsters, that's all he's ever done. That's all anyone there has ever done. He has no way of finding first-hand knowledge for taking the offensive against a human opponent, and if he goes at this blind, there's no way he'll get everyone out unscathed. He's going to lose people. He's going to lose a lot of people.
He'd never thought before that Cocolia would have it in her to have someone killed. And with this new knowledge, he has no guarantee she won't go after Serval or Lynx if she decides to retaliate.
Gepard has to remind himself to breathe when he realizes this.
Pela writes down every name the two of them can come up with. Lists and lists of names and groups and anyone they can think of who might be an ally in all of this. They memorize every bit of it, make their plans of who to talk to and when. Gepard watches the sparks reflect off Pela's glasses as they burn the evidence together.
Pela finally leaves, far too late to make it home, but says she wants to stay in the restricted zone anyway to investigate. Gepard watches her make her way in the direction of Dunn's tent, watches her back until she's out of his sight and squashes down the urge to follow and keep an eye on her. His tent feels empty.
In the morning, Gepard is up before the wake up bells. He drags himself out of bed, leads his soldiers through their morning training. The same people gravitate to each other everyday. Friend groups and training partners. There's an ongoing rivalry between a few squadrons that everyone bets on. Some of them have lockets around their necks, keepsakes, mementos. Some of them wear wedding rings.
Gepard is suddenly, painfully aware of something acidic clawing at the inside of his throat, of a heavy weight low in his chest that blooms, takes up room until it threatens to spread his ribs. His mouth tastes of bile and blood.
He rearranges the schedules. Puts himself down for every open patrol into the Fragmentum, makes sure he'll be on the frontlines every single time Cocolia visits.
He only hopes that it's enough.
#honkai star rail#gepard landau#hsr gepard#pelageya sergeyevna#hsr pela#hsr#smacking Gepard out of Hoyo's hands and running off with him skzjmdkd#tentatively Figuring Out how to write these two... It feels a little tricky starting out with extreme circumstances like this haha#I feel like a lot of people see Gepard as naive for trusting Cocolia so much but I don't think that's quite it. He's not stupid.#He's not even naive.#He's someone who has been groomed since birth by his own parents to be an obedient Guard and nothing outside of that role.#You are not immune to propaganda etc etc#But even then there are a lot of things like all the included screenshots where he. Doesn't actually seem to like/trust Cocolia much.#I think Serval was a really good influence on him as a kid. He might have turned out much much worse without her.#and even with how I've written him here. I don't think he's normally slow to act or one to stand aside and make other people lead.#it's just that this specifically was a pretty extreme circumstance for him.#and also he openly states elsewhere that Pela is overbearing and he tries not to interfere with her work whenever possible nskzhdjdjd#Pela too. I don't know that I normally see her as someone with a bad temper or quick to anger.#But again; extreme circumstances haha#Bc like. they both would have seen what happened to Serval when she stood up to Cocolia. they know damn well what's going to happen to them.#if they fuck this up and get caught then they're done.#and I mean. What are they supposed to do? they're two people against the highest authority of the entire nation.#regardless I do love Gepard agonizing over this in the future after Bronya takes over and everything has settled down#did he do the right thing? did he make the right choice? if he went vigilante how many soldiers would have died without his protection?#would Belobog have fallen completely? how many people died because he DIDN'T run away? was it actually enough?#I love characters forced between a rock and a hard place. no good options. pick your poison.#no winning- only weighing what you can and cannot bear to lose.#make your choice and decide whether you want to rot or to burn.

The fact that the spn fandom is entirely incapable of a nuanced discussion involving Dean and the relationship with his mother shouldn’t surprise me as much as it did when I came back to fandom, and as much as it still does when I’m forced to see it with my own two eyeballs
Mary Winchester was a person before she was a mother, and I’m going to be so honest with you, I think by the time she died, John didn’t like who that person was. So I think when she died, he did what a lot of people do, which is put the person they lost on a pedestal. And that’s who Dean grew up hearing about, that’s what all of his memories of his mom were contextualized with, this person who didn’t exist. And so then his mom comes back and I think it’s very, very clear to Dean almost immediately that this isn’t the same person John told him about.
In the real world, we have no context to draw from and nothing to compare it to, the experience of getting a dead parent back and to be part of your life again. We can’t know how he felt beyond what we were shown in canon - So of course Dean is thrilled, but he’s also a Winchester and deeply traumatized, and tries so hard to make it seem normal and not internalize his complicated feelings about her and her being alive. He’s dealing with:
Grappling with losing the mother he was told she was and resenting mary for it because she’s standing in front of him
Realizing that John robbed so much from him by denying him the version of his mother who feels like looking in a mirror
The guilt of how and why mary is there
Trying to reconcile his feelings of resentment and anger that he knows should be directed at John, but John’s not there, so they end up getting directed at mary, and feeling bad about that
A deeply traumatized inner child who has his safe person back, and just wants his mom to hold him and tell him it’s going to be okay, but he knows that isn’t fair to ask of her
And meanwhile mary was dealing with
✨trauma✨ from being brought back to life
Having to confront her own failures as a parent (which is silly it’s not her fault she died but y’know, feelings tend to be silly)
Having to reconcile her toddler with the man in front of her who’s older than her being her son
Seeing so much of John’s worst qualities in both of them and recognizing the trauma of a shitty dad
The fact that they had this idea of who she was, and it’s nothing like her at all, and trying to understand why John would lie to them while also probably coming to terms with what looks like confirmation of her own worst fears about who she was as a parent
I cannot stress this enough: the last time her feet touched the ground, she had been married, with a new baby, and a 4 year old, she wasn’t a hunter, John barely knew about hunting, and it was the 80’s. She woke up in what, 2017 and her husband’s dead, her babies are grown men (again: older than her!!!) and the most prolific hunters in the world. Oh, also, angels? God? The afterlife?? Funny story! Like I’m sorry, you wanted her to have well-adjusted coping skills for that????
The Mary hate just gets me because she’s Dean in a different font, and so many of y’all hate her for such superficial bullshit that you could let go of if you took 5 seconds to think about the situation critically for both of them. The only bad guy here is, was and will always be John Winchester. John was there, but Mary tried her best. Mary tried to do what was best for them when she left, because she didn’t want to damage their idea of who she was anymore than she had. Mary literally died trying to save Sam from the destiny that heaven had written for him - John couldn’t be bothered to think about his kids.
And if you think that Dean ever genuinely hated Mary, your critical thinking skills need some work. The thing that prompts his speech in 12.22 is Mary saying to his younger self, “I only want good things for you, Dean. I'll never let anything bad happen to you.” So he says
I hate you. And I love you. 'Cause I can't – I can't help it. You're my Mom. And I understand...'cause I have made deals to save the ones I love more than once.
I forgive you. I forgive you. For all of it. Everything. On the other side of this, we can start over, okay? You, me, Sam. We can get it right this time. But I need you to fight. Right now, I need you to fight. I need you – I need you to look at me, Mom. I need you to really look at me and see me. Mom, I need you to see me. Please.
Translation: “you’re right. I resent you for not being the person I was sold, I resent you for your death being the thing that ruined dad, I resent you for being the touchstone for so many of heaven’s plans for us. I resent you because you’re here, and John isn’t, and it’s easier to hate someone tangible than someone dead. And if I hate you, it’s only because I can see so much of myself in you, and I’m so incredibly angry that John treated us the way he did. My whole world, my whole identity revolves around you being someone that you never were, and wrapping my head around that is scary, but when I pull my head out of my ass and look around, you were just a kid. And you did your best, you’ve always tried to do what’s best for me and Sam, and I don’t hate you. I don’t know if I like you right now because you’re a stranger, which is scary - but I love you. So please, mom, I’m sorry that I’ve been taking my bullshit out on you. Just… try. For me. Please.”
Anyways!!! You guys don’t deserve Mary.
