This has been rattling in my mind for a minute and i need to scream about it.

The significance of the item display of the backpacks and how much that defines the QSMP characters.

If you dont know, Leo found out you can display an item in your backpack and show it off. Kinda like a little charm or a keychain. Ever since then, a bunch of people have been displaying items.

Lets start off with the trend setter.

Leo:

Her item is a totem. Obviously this is about Foolish. She spends the most time with Foolish and adores him. They are super close and are super similar. Another reason could be showing off her wealth. Also, a joke that she is immortal (she isnt) and its a bit of a hint to that.

Foolish:

His item is the player head that Leo always wears. Obviously, like Leo, it represents how much he loves Leo and the time they spent together. It also looks like Leo is in his backpack and showing that they are always together (Siempre juntos) no matter what.

Philza:

His item is a skull you can wear on your head. Now theres a lot to interpet here. The obvious one is that this represents Missa. Either that he always chooses Missa or that Missa is with him and Chayanne even if hes away. Again theres a lot to talk about.

Another reason is that death isnt scary for him / death is always there. Philza in general is associated with death (his irl wife's lore is being the goddess of death). With his son on one life for so long and now his granddaughter, he has come to terms with death. He isnt scared of the Code Monster. He will fight until the death no matter what.

Tallulah:

Her item is a poppy. I believe she gives poppies to people she meets for the first time. For me, it represents her innocence. In the way she views the world and how the world views her. Everyone sees her as a sweet girl and is super kind. Majority, if not everyone, always loves her. For her, she always views the world with love. She is told by Wilbur and Phil that her kindness and love is necessary. In a world full of terror and fear, there needs to be love and gentleness

Chayanne:

His item is a potato. For anyone who doesnt know, Chayanne is deeply inspired by Techoblade. Technoblade is known for being a incredible warrior and a great Potato farmer. Please look up his videos. Philza told Chayanne about Techno and again is deeply inspired by him. The potato is a reminder of Chayanne's goals. To help everyone and to protect everyone.

Richarlyson:

His item is a heart container, one used to get an extra heart of health. I have so many emotions about this. I think the main one is that Richarlyson is the heart of the Brazilians / Favela Five. He is the core, for better or for worse. He always loves all his dads. Even recently with how scary everything is, he still loves and trusts his dads.

Forever:

His item is a Nether star. I honestly feel like this defines his character so well. An item that takes a lot of time, resources, and strength to get. Forever has put in that time and effort. His strength shines in his armor and how persistent he is. Also, the nether star is needed to make the highest level of the block reinforcer. Its needed to make everything safe. Forever has shown that over and over again. He wants to make everything safe.

(Update, Richarlyson changed his to a nether star so him and Forever are matching!)

Cellbit:

His item is the universal block remover. I dont know how recent this change is, but I noticed it when he was in his federation office. Just like Forever, this defines his character so well. He is there to break something, either the Enigma or the Federation. He is trying to get inside.

BadBoyHalo:

His item is a Scythe. For anyone who doesnt know, Bad said he is the grim reaper. Either coming to people to remind them to drink water or that he helps guide people to the afterlife. A lot of people thinks that why he cares so much about the eggs. He is the one to transport them to the afterlife.

Mike:

As im making this post, Tazercraft went live and I noticed Mike has a red block in his item display. I dont know a lot of Tazercraft/ Mike's lore. I do know that in tazercraft's game of hide and seek, a red block is represented to show who is the seeker/killer. Maybe it relates to that?

This is everyone I can think of off the top of my head. Theres probably more people who have it, but yeah.

Eddie is on the phone with Buck. He doesn’t know Christopher is listening. Eddie says ‘I love you Evan’ (they’re already in a relationship) and Christopher’s heart is broken. How could his dad cheat on Buck (he knows Buck and Eddie are dating). So Christopher keeps his dad’s ‘secret’. He doesn’t want to Buck because he’s afraid Buck will leave forever and he doesn’t want to lose Buck. Eventually Christopher can’t keep it in any longer. So, while there having dinner, Christopher keeps giving his dad the death glare (before this he was giving Eddie the silent treatment). Son Eddie finally asked Christopher what’s wrong. Then Christopher snaps and starts accusing Eddie of cheating on Buck with some guy named ‘Evan’. Eddie just looks at him dumbfound while Buck (being the very oblivious person he is) looks a little heart broken. Christopher then storms to his room. Buck and Eddie have a small fight but then come to a conclusion. They realize that they never told Christopher that Buck’s name was also Evan. They go to Christopher’s room and find him crying. They go to comfort him and they have a small family moment. Finally once Christopher calms down they tell him Buck’s name is Evan and that Eddie was talking to Buck and not some other guy. Christopher then sighs a sigh of relief (he’s still shocked but now he can still have his two dads). Then they become a happy family again.

Legolas & Aragorn - You Give Him The Silent Treatment

Legolas

- emotional cues are a little difficult for elves

- at first, Legolas doesnt even register that he’s done something to upset you. he assumes that for whatever reason, you want your own space for a while, and he doesnt mind that

- the tension between the two of you in passing is utterly lost to him, he genuinely doesnt even feel it because he’s an oblivious boy

- it’s only when his father, King Thranduil, alerts him of the situation that Legolas begins to understand

“The two of you had a disagreement and you refused to look at her while you were watching the hills, is this true?”

“Yes.”

“My son, when you talk to your love with eyes that linger anywhere but her, it will raise doubts from the grave that then torment her mind.”

“Oh.”

“Indeed.”

- Legolas went on a mission to find you after that, and it didnt take him long

- you were sitting under a tree, reading a book of spells

- Legolas sat down in front of you

“Melamin(My love), are you alright?”

- you hummed in response, refusing to lift your gaze from the book

Aragorn

- you didnt want to be recognised as a distraction to Aragorn or a tag-along, you wanted to be treated as an equal member of the team

- but in keeping your relationship a secret, Aragorn was a free man to any woman’s eyes, including Éowyn

- considering the circumstances, you had no right to be angry at her advances, but they boiled the blood in your veins to a heat even that Balrog couldnt stand

- the final straw came when your beloved drank from a goblet presented to him by Éowyn, and once he had gone, her uncle congratulated her on establishing a romance with Aragorn

- you stormed out of the bar and Aragorn ran after you, the streets of Rohan were quiet while every voice that resided there was hollering in the bar, meaning there was no reason to hide

- Aragorn ran in front of you and stopped, holding your shoulders and trying to read your countenance as you avoided his eyes

- you just shook your head and tried to break free from his grasp, Aragorn frowned

“You wish to escape me, am I the source of your rage?”

- you scoffed and lifted your gaze to look at him with fire in your eyes

“Your ‘love’ is among the sea of voices concealed by those walls, is she not? The fair maiden who stole your heart, may the skies bless the happy couple! It is not my business to interfere with a man who is spoken for, I beg your forgiveness and part with sweet sorrows!”

- with that, Aragorn released you and you hid yourself away at the inn

- Aragorn was shaken, he could not believe how careless he had been with your feelings

- in keeping your relationship a secret, he had broken his promise of protecting you from harm, and he was to blame for your anguish

- he visited the door of your room at the inn every single day, bringing you flowers and fruits he had picked himself, but you never answered the door

- on the seventh day, there was a gentle tap on the window that awoke you from a restless sleep

- you tried to fall back into your slumber, but another tap on the window disturbed you

- rubbing your eyes tiredly, you stepped out of bed and shuffled over to the window in your nightdress

- you frowned as you remembered you were on the second floor, nobody could reach you from the window, could they?

- pushing open the small wooden doors, you were greeted by the early morning sun, and the view of Aragorn standing on the grass below you, a collection of pebbles in his hand

- he grinned as he saw you, clearing his throat before he began to dramatically shout up at you

“And there she is! My sweet angel, the only mortal fairer than any elf could dream of being! The keeper of my heart, my sun, my sea, my skies - who need not bless the happy couple, because the happy couple is blessed enough to be!”

- a crowd began to gather around Aragorn as he drew attention to himself with his monologue, the Fellowship joined him at his sides, all of them appearing unsurprised by his confession, Pip and Merry even exchanging food in the form of a bet, had they known all this time?

- Éowyn watched on from a few feet away, appearing happy and also unsurprised, had Aragorn spoken to her about this?

- Aragorn looked at the ground in disdain

“But I have wronged her, scorned her, brought tears to the delicate flower I promised to protect! I am a fool, not of a Took, but of a man!”

- he lifted his head to smile at you again

“It is I, who must beg your forgiveness, and I will do so in a way that reveals my heart’s devotions.”

- with that, Aragorn lowered himself to his knees, everyone in the crowd gasping, your eyes widening as you covered your mouth with your hands

- Aragorn raised his hands to you in a prayer position

“Will you give a beggar one last kiss?”

- you grinned and ran from the window, out of the door to your room, down the stairs and out of the inn, directly into the (still kneeling) Aragorn, who immediately wrapped his arms around you

- you kissed him with passion that was perhaps inappropriate given the number of witnesses, but neither of you seemed to care

- when you pulled away from each other, you were breathless, and Aragorn grinned

“Was that the last kiss?”

- you shook your head

“The first of many.”

OK, so I've got a pet theory that boils down to: Caithe is currently immortal. Allow me to monologue.

The Elder Dragons have a thing called a Champion that they can use to further their goals. The champion can channel the power of their dragon. However there seems to be two main categories of Champion:

Creatures created wholecloth from a dragon's power that are attuned to their flavour of magic

Creatures that volunteer themselves to be the champion

Creatures that fit into the first category seem to have a lot of freedom in their position. Taking direct orders verbally and being given autonomy to act in furtherance of what they assume is their dragon's goals. If they go against their Dragon's goals the dragon doesnt really have a good way to reign them in. Examples of creatures like this are: Glint, The Shatterer, Tequatl, The Pale Tree

Creatures in the second category however seem to get overwhelmed and act as through possessed. Suddenly changing their behavoir and acting against their own interests. They have no way to resist the commands and desires of their Dragon. Examples of creatures who took this mantle are: Bangar, Rytlock's Son, Braham, Cera/Scarlet Briar, The Commander

Now you might think Cera shouldn't be in that list, but her sudden change in attitude and acting against her previous goals and desires really does imply that when she was exposed to the Eternal Alchemy she was contacted by Mordremoth and was unable to resist working towards waking him up ASAP. The only other creature to use the same machine we known of is the commander and they came out reasonably fine, so we can assume their homicidal tendencies were because they became a dragon champion against their will.

You also might wonder why the Commander still has free will, despite being innthat category, and my assumption here is simple: We're older than Aurene, she doesn't have the capability to dominate creatures with a stronger will than she has. And she's 7 years old. Even a Sylvari Commander would be older than her by a few years.

So on to the main point of this, the Pale Tree was a Champion of Mordremoth, but like with how the Forgotten were able to break the connection between Glint and Kralkatorrik, Ventari was able to break their connection (not as completely, since it was done accidentally, but still a good effort). However since the Pale Tree was alunaware of their connection they didn't take any precautions on their children being kept safe from Mordremoth's influence.

In the same way that we saw Death-Branded Destroyers turning up when Zaitan was destroyed, it seems that Dragon Minions can be forced to swap the energy they are atuned with. Leading to the Last chapter of LWS4 when The Crystal Bloom is founded and their first member: Caith is attuned to Aurene's energies. From what we saw in Heart of Thorns the Sylvari are technically Dragon Minions, so this all seems fine for now.

We saw in GW1 that the champions of elder dragons don't age, the Great Destroyer (the champion of Primordus) was around the menace the Asura and Dwarfs in 1078 AE, and was created 10,000 years earlier in the previous Dragonrise. While it was asleep for a big chunk of that time not all of the other minions were asleep.

Caithe can reasonably assumed to be both a minion of Aurene and have a magical connection to her. One can only assume that Aurene's sylvari minions will be able to live long enough to see her wake up again in a few thousand years.

Also, with the story beat in Janthier Wilds about the Pale Tree still being injured from the Heart of Thorns story, I assume it fix her it'll require attuning to Aurene's magic to be able to recover properly since she no longer has her aligned dragon to filter magic for her alignment.

the whole thing isnt kick-started by judge but instead queen, now in the custody of the marines, as he constantly curses the vinsmoke name. interest is piqued during some interrogation when he curses sanji's timely mutation and when pressed for more he angrily rants about judges 'failed' work on his children, how theyre basically living weapons, and that the cook of the strawhats is no exception if their battle was anything to go by, why he even goes so far as asking the pirate hunter to kill him if he went 'mad'!

perhaps word gets back to the gorosei or akainu, getting them thinking... despite their efforts strawhat luffy is becoming more of a danger with each passing day but maybe they were going at it all wrong...

what if they could get the strawhats to do themselves in? strawhat is willing to destroy the world if it meant saving his nakama - but is he strong enough to save them from themselves? to cut the arm off to save the body?

it doesnt take much to get vinsmoke judge on board, just the promise of give him all the tools he needs to 'retrieve his goods', going so far as to even give him access to vegapunks work and 'convinced' queen to aid him. their only stipulation is that he is to then use this weapon of his destroy the strawhats, no matter what it takes

so it goes like this - with the resources of the world government, a plan is put in motion. a random island that just happens to sit in the strawhats path is attacked by bloodthirsty bandits, ravenging it... perhaos the starving islanders won their empathy, perhaps it was just the whims of monkey d. luffy.

a battle breaks out though its hardly anything to write home about for an emperor's crew

if only they had known about the cp0 agents hidden amongst the riftraft, armed with weaponry specifically made to take down germa66 super soilders. all it takes is a single, well timed strike to the heart to bag their target

(in that sense, his death isnt faked at all. no, its quite real. they figured a little brain death was negligible, if not outright helpful, considering they were planning to wipe the cooks memories anyhow)

the body falls into the sea, where it is quickly whisked away by hidden agents before the first son of the sea can fish blackleg out.

as far as the strawhats can tell, the sea claimed his body into her embrace - it would be... a fitting death, in better circumstances... they search the surrounding ocean for three entire weeks before giving up, if you can even call it that. luffy refuses to accept his death, clinging desperately to the lack of a body. the rest are torn, unsure what to believe. but as their food supplies start to dwindle, theyre forced into moving forward to the next island.

time marches on, unconcerned for the despair flooding the thousand sunny

elsewhere, a prince is quietly reborn, reshaped in anothers image. he looks upon to world with blank, calculating eyes. unbeknownst to judge, when the words of his family cannot measure up to the reality before sanji, he puts his skills to the test to take what he needs from the victims of germa66's sieges

before long, the time of reckoning is upon them. stealth black is believed a success, the next step of the plan is put into motion... they need to send a message to get the strawhat pirates attention, so where better than their very first claimed territory?

fishman island doesnt even know what hit it as the sucken land crumbles, yet they let the royalty live... just so they can pass on a tiny tonedial with a message to strawhat luffy

Mohatu raised his head, not believing his best friend's words.

"What?"

"You heard me, Mohatu. I'm done. The Lion Guard is over for me."

"Takatifu, if this is because of what happened with the herds-"

The Bravest shaked his head. "We no longer has respect, Mohatu. Our Leader, your brother, died a few moons ago. The rest are sick because of the drought, I'm the only one protecting those warthog brains and I can't even get a drink?". Takatifu unsheated his claws and hit the dry earth under his paws.

"You know it's our duty..."

"But you have your family! Your daughter is still with you! My mate left and I couldn't go with her because of this 'duty'!". The brown lion ducked his head. "I was going to have a son..."

Orange eyes looked at the sky, no clouds could be seen in the distance. The King sighed.

"Then I am going".

"Huh?"

"I'm going to fix this. It's our duty, and I have it not only with The Pridelands, but The Lion Guard as well. I'm going to find a source of water and then...

"And then..."

"And then you can go to search for your family, Takatifu."

The guard member couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"Don't make promises you will break, Wahabu".

Mohatu chuckled. "You haven't called me that since we were cubs."

"Please..."

The King raised himself in all his glory. "I promise you, my friend, that once I come back, you will be free to be happy. I will make sure of that."

The brown lion nodded and Mohatu started to walk away from The Pridelands.

Except...

"Can you take care of Uru, for me, though? She only trusts you."

Takatifu laughed. "Of course, my friend. I promise."

When the King came back with the news of a water source he was also met with news himself: Uru, in her naivety as a cub, had found an underground pond and screamed with joy at her discovery. The Pridelanders, in desperation, had almost trampled her, has it not been for Takatifu, who had lost his life under the herds hooves.

Mohatu's roar of grief could be heard for days.

And the skies roared with him, rain finally pouring, onto the land of broken promises.

Wahabu is the swahili word for "god of love". Mohatu doesnt have a meaning so I went with the same thing i went for Mufasa's name: originally named after gods/spirits, but them rejecting those names and going for something more humble.

Also updated my Mohatu's design: he has a twirl in his mane that resembles a heart (hence his original name) and also an underbite because i love that and Uru had to inherit it from someone.

Bad: “I am slowly torturing myself, to motivate myself to get my son back.” that whole entire admission was bonkers but what the hell was THIS about? Torturing himself as motivation? Also- recognizing the soul vulture fuckery as torture. fucking break my heart eight times over with that barrel full of soul hearts from dapper. he looked in that barrel and he was PROUD and now he’s talking about torturing himself. so. either he recognizes that dapper was torturing himself too (and recognized from the beginning+was proud or has realized through the course of his grieving how fucked up that was). it may be the second one? if he’s using guilt exasperated by the torture as a motivator to find dapper again.

but at the same time- he’s so aware that its torture. bad has so much trouble addressing things head on, sometimes purposefully (liberating furniture) and sometimes thru denial (hello birthday party), but he acknowledges it as torture so easily that i think its one of those things he’s known for a while, and not recently come to realize. he’s ALSO using it to punish himself for what he has to do to his friends and family- and he said this part separately, so its hard to reasonably assume his “motivation to find dapper via torture” is tied into some sort of penance.

(altho i DO think he’s ALSO using the vultures to torture himself out of guilt for losing the eggs. he brought that vulture out with him on a walk when he talked to the missing eggs from the church roof, and let it eat away at him the way he lets his guilt over the eggs eat away at him. I just also think the motivation thing is separate, due to his phrasing)

“I am slowly torturing myself, to motivate myself to get my son back.” It feels like there’s another little nugget of truth hiding back there. Is he using the pain to ground himself? using it to avoid a depressive spiral? Bbh is self sacrificial as HELL and doesnt blink when popping 20 totems in a dungeon for the sake of friends/eggs- i think he has a different relationship with pain than is. uh. Healthy. We could see that when he was unphased by the vulture’s attacks on the church roof. It’s not like he’s whipping himself to drive the carriage forwards. he doesnt care enough to avoid pain to use pain avoidance as a motivator. so what else about the torture is driving him forwards?

maybe he doesnt know that it doesnt work on him? or- he’s using “motivation” as an excuse to hurt himself even more. he already showed some dissonance during that convo with tina. Punishing himself for hurting his friends, AND placing mines down to punish them (unrelated to finding the eggs and potentially making his mission more difficult. placing mines is an emotional reaction that he feels justified in. (“It’s just an annoyance”) he’s hurting his friends while hurting HIMSELF for hurting his friends, but the mines are not the reason for his own punishment). It could be that he’s using the “motivation” as justification for stronger-than-he’d-normally-reason harm to himself, just like he’s justified “revenge” against the other players with the mines

oh man ok i need to gush about moonlight chicken for a second lol

i adored how this show didnt shy away from the messiness of real life and relationships! like u hav a single gay working class man desperately trying to make ends meet and struggling with the guilt of his past lover having died tragically whilst bringing up his nephew who wants to be taken seriously and finally fly the nest to live his own life whilst at the same time navigating his crush on a lonely deaf boy who just wants to be understood and respected. and then you have a man stuck in relationship limbo where he's unable to let go of his past love but also yearning to move on and free them both from the pain they cause each other... and that's not even to mention the side characters who deal with the loss of parents, unfaithful partners, unplanned pregnancies, trying to be a better mother to your son, etc...

no one was a villain, instead you had a group of people who needed to grow and learn in a very natural way, and that's just so refreshing to see! honestly one of my fav parts of the story is that rather than inventing some arbitrary dramatic reason for wen and alan to break up, it just happened because their love had fizzled out, a thing that happens all the time in real relationships! and even though their love had died, it was still obvious that they cared deeply for one another which made both of them trying to move on so much more painful...

so much of this show was about the cycles of emotional abuse that can develop when you're stuck in the past... jim is unable to see a happy future for himself because he blames himself for beam's death, and he let's that anger and resentment inform how he treats li ming. wen is ignoring the messiness of his relationship with alan in favour of pursuing jim, but knows deep down that neither will be able to truly move on unless he deals with the situation. even heart's parents are stuck unable to relate to or be willing to understand their deaf son as they continue to isolate him from the outside world, thinking that it will protect him but all it does is make him even more lonely!

idk i just loved how the show focused so much on living in the moment. that the past is fixed and the future is uncertain, but there will always be now where you can always find some glimmer of joy and optimism.

and then there's ofc the queer element of the show where we get to see how internalised and external homophobia exist as perimeters to queer people being able to truly be themselves. one of the most heart wrenching scenes is at beam's funeral where his parents come up to jim and effectively tell him that because he and beam weren't married, he has no legal rights to any of the things they had worked so hard for together! and this is something you hear time and time again, both historically and now, where queer couples in countries that dont recognise gay marriage or even civil partnerships are denied so much (particularly when one of them dies) because their relationship is deemed illegitimate by law.

jim as a character has internalised this so much that when he finds out his nephew is gay, he lashes out (in one of the funniest scenes ever, mind you lol... literally the whole 'why are you gay, isn't being poor enough of a challenge!?' thing is gonna stick in my mind forever i love it sm lol) because he knows first hand how hard it is to be a queer man in a society that still doesnt fully accept you! (and it rly showed the disparity between him, a working class man, and wen, someone from a middle class/wealthy background when it comes to queerness that i don't think gets discussed as much... cos the fact of the matter is that for a long time queerness /was/ effectively reserved for wealthy people, as working class people wouldnt have had as much of a choice in how they could live their lives, so jim's reticence when it comes to accepting li ming's (and his own) queerness is directly tied to how being poor doesnt always allow you the luxury of simply 'being yourself'...)

and i think it was especially interesting that this show didnt present homophobia in individualistic terms. we don't get a character calling them slurs or saying that they're wrong for being gay, instead we get systemic and societal prejudices showing up in insidious ways, which feels so much more realistic! (like even jam, who is presented as having outdated and homophobic opinions, isnt presented as some evil villain. she's just a product of a homophobic society that teaches people being gay is a sad way of living, and she has to unlearn that as both her brother and son prove her wrong!)

hey so nobody knows this blog but i got out of control while telling my friend about a writing a prompt i thought of and so now im giving it to you fire emoji (below the clip)

au where lance had his schoolbag for some reason (he doesnt know why he grabbed it, he likes to think it was the universe letting him have things from home to remind him that yes, he will make it back) and as they reach the edge of the solar system, his bag starts to ring, his familiar ringtone playing throughout the lion.

he's not quite sure why he decided to go on a hunt to find a charger to get it's battery up, maybe fate playing with the strings a bit to get it to happen, he's not sure.

it's what the paladins have deemed as "night-time," around 9pm back on earth. he was nearly asleep but is now clambering for his bag, worn from the years he's spent using it in space. he rips the phone from it, staring in disbelief that he was able to get a signal from all the way out here.

the words are clear on his screen, though his eyes are blurring them, tears threatening to fall.

MAMÁ

his hands are shaky as he clicks the accept button. the heart threatening to beat out of his chest the only thing assuring him that it isnt a dream.

it's quiet for a moment, before his mother's quiet words ring through his ears.

"..mijo?"

she sounds as if she's aged 10 years in only 5, but her voice was still heavy with that slight spanish accent, worn from years of english, that used to scold him and tell lance how much she loves him. but it's everything he's missed. and he can't helps the way his voice breaks when he says,

"mamá. oh mamá we're coming home."

lance doesn't know why, after the call with his mother ends, he calls keith. sure they're friends now but he hasn't been sure if theyre that close yet.

but he does anyways.

it only rings for a second, the image of keith appearing on his screen. pajamas on, and kosmo laying their head in his lap, with his comm pad held lazily in one hand. the screen lit up with one of the crosswords allura had given them to help with their altean.

"hey man, what's up? you alright? you look like you've been crying."

he leans forward in the chair, much to kosmos dislike, his eyes squinting and brow furrowed in concern.

lance suddenly feels concious of how he looks, eyes red and puffy, but just wipes at his eyes, looking at the side of his controls rather than the screen.

"yeah, it's just uh. i got a call from my mom, from my old phone. and i just, i don't know."

keith sits up fully in his seat, although knocking kosmo's head off fully, and clicks his comm pad off and setting it onto the floor.

"dude, really?! i'm surprised you got signal all the way out here. but i'm glad for you! how was she doing?"

keith looks genuinely happy for him, not something lance often had the privilege to see.

"she's uhm."

he takes a moment to steel himself. taking a deep breath as he reminds himself that he won't have to talk about only memories of her the next day. it won't hurt to talk about her.

"she's doing good, she was uh. really happy to hear from me. says she called me every week just to see if i would maybe pick up."

and lance's heart can't help but break, as he thinks about his mamá, face creased with worry, sat with her phone in hand, hoping her son would pick up. hoping that he would come back. that he would come home.

"she uh, only starting calling once or twice per month after the first year, so i guess i got lucky. it was really nice to hear her voice again. i almost forgot."

(his face falls, as he thinks of the countless nights that he'd try. try to hard to remember what she sounded like. how she rolled her r's, how she sounded as she yelled at him to do his chores faster, how she said i love you. he could never get it just right.)

"it's funny honestly, i used to hope for the day that i wouldn't have to hear it as much. i'd mock her voice from behind my door after an argument. but now i can't even imagine that. i guess, you don't know how much you'd miss something until you lose it.

and i know it seems silly to miss her this much considering we were gone only 2 years. but for her it was five. and at some points i wasn't–"

his voice begins to crack, his hand gripping the edge of his seat so hard that his fingers were white. the tears in his eyes threatening to fall.

"–i wasn't sure if i'd ever see her again. if i'd be able to tell her that i was coming home."

lance gives a watery laugh, rubbing his hand on the back of his head as he realises that he just dumped that all on keith.

“sorry that was, kind of a ramble.”

he finally looks back up at the screen, tears pricking the back of his eyes as he tries not to cry again. keith is staring at seemingly nothing just behind the screen, face drawn up in an expression lance can't decipher. thoughtfulness? he's not quite sure. but he doesn't have time to figure it out before keith speaks again, his gaze falling down to the floor as he starts to fidget with the string on his sweatpants.

"i understand what you mean. and im not trying to make this about me but, after spending two years on a space whale, i learned theres a lot of things you don't realise you'll miss."

he looks up, his face almost determined as he looks at lance directly now.

"but hey, you'll get to see her tomorrow, you won't have to miss her for much longer."

lance nods, smiling as a warmth spreading through his chest. he feels a renewed hope for the next day. he was going to go home.

(little note but the idea that theres a big group that surrounds the lions after they land, which the paladins get lost in immediately

and so lance is desperately searching through the crowd trying to find his family, before seeing keith waving and pointing almost frantically, but a smile on his face.

and as the crowd moves his mamá comes into view, standing next to keith

she calls out to lance, and he immediately runs over, engulfing her in a hug that lasts, definitely more than 20 seconds, and once he pulls away she starts tearfully rambling about how much she missed him, how she always knew in her heart that he'd come back, etc. etc.

but after a moment wipes the tears from her eyes and cheerfully exclaims that she was struggling to find him before keith had helped her, saying how nice he is, mother stuff yk

and keith is looking away blushing slightly from the compliments, and lance just looks at him and thanks him with such a genuine tone that keith cant help but smile fondly at him)
