pulling out bits from recent cast interviews re: s3
Several sets of interviews came out today! wotseries.com has six (!); looper.com, decider.com, & collider.com all have one each.
(speculation and spoilers for s3 and for the books through TFoH)
In Ceara's wotseries interview, we get this little hint:
WotSeries: How far along in the books are you? Ceara: I wouldn’t want to say because I read up to where we are in the scripts, and I think that would give away too much.
This implies to me that s3 is going to go a bit beyond The Shadow Rising, at least in places, because it's no secret that TSR is going to be the spine of the season.
We get more from Daniel:
WotSeries: How about any movement towards developing the relationship between Lan and Nynaeve in season three? Daniel: Season three, yes, it’s more of a build season for those two. There are some really great scenes, some stuff we’re really happy with. We do get to see some intimate stuff, not sexual stuff necessarily. So, some moments with them. But with Lan and Nynaeve, it’s this working toward what the book readers know it’s going to be. It all depends on how much time we get, how many seasons we get to do this thing. That’s a relationship that I’m really excited about and I love working with Zoë.
So, again, yeah, that really does make me feel like we're going to get one or two episodes at the start of the season where the whole crew is together and bonding. In the books, Lan and Nynaeve basically don't see each other at all between splitting up at the beginning of TSR and then eight million years later in ACoS. I do think that we might also get a reunion of at least some of the characters at the end of s3, though.
In Donal's interview:
Dónal: Well, I have big faith in Mat. I’m pretty confident in him. Regarding chatting to women.
This makes me wonder if we're getting Melindhra introduced next season. Because, uh, Mat has not really had a lot of success so far. I mean, apart from the very first episode.
Dónal: Well, there’s loads that you can look forward to in season 3. I mean, we’ve got much of it. I feel like I’ve filmed a good stretch of it, and I’ve really enjoyed the material and the new arc. This arc that I go on this season. And I think you can just expect things to be… there’s more moments with the characters to kind of learn about them in more quiet, subtle ways, more revealing ways. And I think it’s probably common knowledge that Mat does change his clothes between 2 and 3. You know, like really, we would have to ask questions and get concerned if he didn’t. I feel like I could tell you that. And I’m excited, man. I’m very happy to be wearing what I’m wearing.
Not that this should be shocking to anyone, lol, but Mat will have an arc next season! Dónal does a good job of not saying anything here though, lol. We WOULD have to be concerned if he hadn't changed clothes, yes, lol. I am excited to hear that Mat is getting some good character moments next season.
Ceara also shared this with us in the collider interview:
My script is always annotated with little quotes from the books, which I really love.
That's amazing! I think this is the first time anyone has mentioned it? That's a really neat way of giving the actors context for their lines.
We all knew that Elayne & Nynaeve would get a big story together in s3 but we get that confirmed:
We see Elayne bump into certain characters this season, but obviously, this cast is huge and growing all the time. I'm sure you cannot go into too many spoilers about Season 3, but for Ceara the actor, which characters are you really excited for Elayne to get to have more screen time with? COVENEY: I'm really excited to continue the journey that Zoë and I have started with Nynaeve and Elayne. I'm really excited to see where that goes because they've had such a rough start and were thrown into such extreme situations. So yeah, if the fans lovingly call it the Detective Agency, I'm excited to see if the business is thriving.
Natasha had two interviews that I've seen, one with decider and one with looper.
There's nothing for s3 in the decider interview that I could see, but from looper we get:
But it's not just about the evil deeds; it's also about the politics. When you come into Season 3 — without giving anything away — it opens up the mind to this more vulnerable side of Lanfear and where she's coming from. The relationship with Rand — there are scenes in Series 2 [where] you get little glimpses and nuggets of that, that there is a vulnerability there, or more reasons rather than just being dark and evil. Circling back to a previous comment, you said Lanfear knows what she wants. As Natasha, what do you think Lanfear wants? The goal in the whole realm of the world is, if I put it like … Beyoncé and Jay-Z. She wants to be the king and queen. What she wants is the Dragon and her to be together, have their kingdom, make some good choices. That's her main goal, and to shoo away anybody else that gets in the way of that.
So it sounds like we might be getting Lanfear's Big Offer (we could challenge the Creator) to Rand in s3, which would make sense.

We were so robbed of Callum and viren interacting or Callum and aaravos interacting. Like what do you mean the last time Callum and viren properly talked to eachother was season 1 how is it that these two foils never meet and actually realise how similar they are?!?!
Also I absolutely dig Callum and aaravos mentor fics they're so well written and some of them make me wish the show made them interact more. What if Callum did learn more than just one truth? What if he actually started to question why the books would hide aaravos's name and try to burry him within history just for him to always haunt the narrative? Did the dragons do this and if they did then why?
Also Iam not sure if Iam correct (so correct me if Iam wrong) but Callum x Claudia was the initial ship and I dig couples who have parallels with one another. That aside this makes me question if the reason why Terry was even introduced in the first place was because the writers needed a second Callum and that's it. It's a shame they never bothered to develop Terry properly because he has potential.
Yeah this was all over the place apologies!
Yes, there's nothing better than character foils and though it's not required they interact, there's so much rich and interesting content you can derive from said interactions. The Callum-Viren-Claudia trinity is so good and it's a shame that Soren is a mutual point of contact they all have and he barely got any time with Callum one-on-one. He did warn him against becoming Virenesque, but that's about it. I think the problem is that even when they're paralleled, Callum very rarely acknowledges the Viren of it all, and Viren has no idea what's going on with Callum. I guess they're both very self-focused characters but maybe some awareness would help to deepen these parallels, even if plot-wise they don't have many opportunities to meet.
Callum and Claudia at least got to run into each other more often. I think that's nice. Ending on the parallel of them casting the same spell was a great touch, even if it had the cowardice of "this spell isn't dark magic uwu don't worry." Still, I could use more. They have the potential to be a fantastic "two friends who tread down two different paths" type relationship and unfortunately, it's not quite there. Maybe we're due for some more flashbacks about their childhoods together ... or again, have some more awareness of each other while apart, and their opposing goals. Make them great rivals, is what I'm saying.
If Callum had more interaction with Aaravos, and ultimately rejected him, instead of just rejecting him from the jump, it would make these Callum and Claudia parallels even better. I can see Callum going "My people have been mistreated, and that we've been actively denied magic is terrible, but they haven't been able to stop me and I'm going to prove how good humanity can be." It would have just a hint of spite to help counter the implications of "I'm one of the Good Ones." He might still learn this! I'd like to see him confront the Startouch elves.
I think the dragons, however, are a lost cause. Although it's clear to you and me they've both benefited from and helped violently enforce this marginalization of humans, it feels like the Great Ones are going to take the lion's share of responsibility. I'm not who is responsible for the erasing of Aaravos's name, but I assume it was the collective who put in the group effort to help imprison him. The Startouch elves seem a little uninvolved at this point in time.
To bring it back to Callum and Claudia ... I can't find a quote from the writers saying explicitly that their ship was intended, but I would believe it was something they were considering -- they were having the voice actors do very ship-focused interviews around s2, before they decided to go in on C/R in s3. Indeed, I would say the ship did "happen" in the sense that they both had feelings for each other and even went on a lil date type thing once. I think, even if it doesn't work out, a canonical acknowledgement of mutual feelings is "canon ship" material. It's normal, too, to crush on someone and not have it work out because you find people who align more with your interests ... and in this vein the Callum/Rayla & Claudia/Terry evolution makes sense. Like Claudia, Rayla is a cool older girl, and like Callum, Terry is sweet and dorky. There's a cohesion to their 'types.'
So I wouldn't say Terry is replacing Callum because they would ever take the show's de facto protagonist and have him run around with Claudia helping her schemes -- Terry fulfilled a specific role in the plot, that is, giving Claudia someone to bounce off of while Viren and Soren were unavailable. I do agree Terry hasn't been quite fleshed out enough -- that he's just, like, having the world's craziest rumspringa doesn't seem to faze him much. And I get it! Backpacking summers across Europe can change you! However, I speculate that next season he's going to be challenged because there's no way Aaravos isn't going to drive a wedge between him and Claudia. I can even see his loyalties as an elf finally coming up (I think these existing is the only explanation for why he was so weirdly mad about Claudia threatening the coins) and he's going to be asking for mercy from Claudia for Xadia that she may not want to give. After all, so far, though he's been very down to clown, Claudia's journey has been extremely hyperfocused on her father, and I don't think Terry really, fully understood the threat that Aaravos posed.
Like you, I was always intrigued by the idea of Callum and Claudia because romantic narrative foils are very crunchy (good) but I do like Terry. I think he has a role to play and I find his optimistic and gentle outlook works well with Claudia. However, I agree that giving him some more to do than being Claudia's partner/lackey would be nice to see.
Thank you for the ask! ♥ No need to apologise, I enjoyed reading it!
#ask#long post#tdp critical#*#aaravos and callum mentor fic sounds interesting#i'm glad it exists#if i do read tdp fic its just viren getting smashed but i support creative explorations of unique character dynamics in fic all the same

Ooooooooh That dark side of Louis quote has me thinking of Jacob saying how he felt initially like he disagreed with some of Louis’ actions and behaviour this season before coming around to the idea 👀
What will Louis be up to….do you think he will be doing certain things in order to feel lestat’s presence more?
Oh yes.
I think he might. And I also think... you know there is this element that could be called ruthlessness to Louis (and I do not mean that negatively here) that appears when he lets go. A certain abandonment of control, because he usually is so controlled.
It's what surfaces when he lets go at the feast (and rips off the jaw), it's what surfaces when he goes to the Alderman, or later when he (rightfully) flips his shit and destroys the coven.
Jacob said in one interview that Armand is not "just a rebound", and while that is obviously true, there is more to that statement (or could be) - because who is the rebound? I have speculated (in fics, others have done that, too) that Louis might hunt blond men for a while, for example. We know of that cast agency post looking for members for an orgy in a park... and so on.
Louis will be suffering, and in a very dark place in the beginning and the end of season 2. Armand will seem like a light in the dark in-between.
But Armand... will also be very interested in Louis' memories of Lestat, and so he might further or prompt those memories and actions to "feel Lestat more" as you called it, in fact I believe both oh-so-innocent "mentions" of Lestat's name are exactly that, namely poking at Louis and his armor. (Armand of course can read Louis' mind and knows immediately where to poke, even if we neglect the fact that Lestat might already be there in Armand's dungeons^^).
I think Louis might kill in Europe, with abandon, for a while.
Then he might find his control again, obviously before Paris once more, since Armand comments on it.
Grief is a process.
And no matter how shitty, if you meant the relationship (and they both did, else it wouldn't have played out as it did), you will mourn it, deeply.
I expect Louis to go to dark places, in the past - and in Dubai.
And re the "dark place" in Dubai... well, I have speculated about Jacob meaning that when he said he was surprised, because his s1 statement might contradict here with the possibility of Merrick. Also, that dark side... by whose judgment? Because Louis drinking blood from the "farm"... it will be very interesting to learn what the farm is, actually. For example. Just how "dark" a "vampire" is Louis in Dubai, in contrast to the one in Paris?
We'll see.
By the episode writers listing I would say that episode 5 will be the trial, and episode 7 will be the shift to Dubai (in the sense that whatever is needed for segueing into s3 will start then).
I said it before, dark, darker, IWTV.
We'll go places.

Where was that Josh quote where he said Olivia auditioned for Marissa but he wanted Mischa instead because she looked "fragile" unlike Olivia who looked "strong" from? I loved Mischa as Marissa but part of me can't help but think Marissa would have gotten better reception if she had been played by someone older (tho I think Olivia was 19 by the time the first season was shot? Still young but a bit less awkward than having a 17 year make out with a 25 year old Ben). Critics hated teenage girls.
He's said it quite a bit in press over the last 20 years so there's a lot of places but he said Olivia "had such a strong persona that she didn't need rescuing" in 2013 for The Daily Beast. I think he repeats something along those lines in the book too. Check other interviews he's done at least in the last 10 years and you'll find more I bet. And it enmeshes Mischa with Marissa here in a way I find uncomfortable. That I think Mischa has always been uncomfortable with. It also diminishes the actual work. Her age didn't help how she was perceived in the tabloids and perhaps an older girl would've faired slightly better but that just puts the onus on the victim here. Mischa has also said she felt "unprotected" on set which the book doesn't get into among other things. (And Sepinwall knows and respects MB's boundaries, but to me it's the elephant in the room)
I don't totally get your argument because, if anything, Marissa's buyable vulnerability benefits from Mischa's young age. Which is an entirely different argument that these people need to receive more whackings for, especially the casting director who said on the podcast that they deliberately cast people opposite Mischa that were older than her because people her age didn't "look right" in scenes with her. What the fuck? So she's "mature for her age" and "worldly" but then they balk at her daring to act like a teenager on set. AND they all hung out constantly during the filming of s1 so this immediate isolation line they're taking now is total rubbish.
Obviously we all agree someone older should've been cast rather than 16 y/o Mischa. And that casting her opposite 24/25 y/o Ben is problematic. Which is its own rabbit hole.
Josh says now in 2023 that if Olivia had been cast instead, he'd have done something else with the character. Well, like what? OW couldn't handle deep storylines because of the angles of her face? (an actual argument I've seen them give). There's a way of saying Mischa was really good at portraying vulnerability without immediately going to the insulting idea that she's weak and that the character's weak. It shows, to me, based on the sharp decline in Marissa's writing, his irl treatment of Mischa long before the end of s3. We'll find out more in the next 20 years, I guess.

When Jensen called Jared, Baby. Hmm... They are making this really easy, aren't they

He was literally quoting a film. Meanwhile, we have video of him calling Misha "babe", and Misha calling Jensen "sweetheart".

Talking about Jensen and Jared on “Then and Now: A Supernatural Podcast”
Rob: You two have been friends for a while now- Jared: We’ve known each other (mumbles) Rob: Sorry, sorry, sorry. You’ve known each other and been acquaintances. You sometimes answer texts. Jared didn’t sound like he was joking. It’s at the 5 minute mark of the Pilot episode.

Any other interesting tidbits from the podcast? 👀
Well, Jensen admitted to trying to screw with Jared in the audition. As in throw him out off his groove. EDIT: Screw as in “mess with” and “sabotage”. Jensen tried to sabotage Jared’s audition by messing with his focus.
Supernatural had a low turn around for members of the crew. Jensen knew nearly all the names while Jared made passing remarks.
In "Wendigo" they talk about Dean's voice. Jensen says he was inspired by JDM after seeing the Pilot. Jared jokes about Jensen wrecking his voice, and Rich and Jensen joke that Misha had it worse.
Jared talks for nearly all of the podcast with Rob, Rich and Jensen just adding in things every so often. So the norm.
There is merciless teasing of Rob that's fun.
Jensen calls Robert Singer "dad". He says that you always knew "when Dad was on set". That Singer was brought in to control a young Kripke.
Jensen says Kripke hasn't changed much between SPN pilot and S3 of The Boys.
Jensen joked that Kripke took everything he wanted to do to Dean on SPN but couldn't because of network control and did it to Jensen on "The Boys", and Jensen has told his family to not watch "The Boys" because of it. But everyone else should watch it.
There was four months between filming The Pilot and "Wendigo". During that time Jensen and Jared did fight training.
They discussed the promotion circuit back in 2005 and how it was very radio orientated. They had to be up at 2am for interviews in America and do four hour shifts before going on to film.
The fire in the scene where Jess dies was real. They actually set the set on fire, and told the boys if they got "hot" to get the hell out of there. In one take Jensen did and he stopped saying his dialogue to say "I'm getting hot!"
Jared admitted to fanboying a little over some of the cast in the early episodes.
The boys got to meet Samantha Smith and JDM while the Pilot was being filmed.
They talked a lot about director David Nutter and how he was the "Pilot King". Any pilot he filmed got picked up. At the time of SPN he'd directed 11 pilots, and SPN was the eleventh one picked up
There was also a discussion how the crew was young when the show started, and some of them saw "three decades". aka they started in their late 20s and were in their early 40s when the show ended and they still worked there. Jensen put himself on that list.
I'm sure there's more, but those are the highlights.

My #1 post of 2022
Hi guys. If you can vote in the Ao3 election, make sure to not vote for Tiffany G. If you haven’t heard, this person wants to censor Ao3. Yes, you heard that right. The site created to go against censorship has someone running for the board that wants to censor content.

Its been so many years so my memory doesn't have all the info anymore and yeah sadly many accounts have deactivated or videos been deleted...
And I only started watching the show during s3 but there must've been a shift in s3. Because during s1 and s2 the show and actors didn't mind talking about sterek and teasing the fans/ship. Very clearly showing they knew what it was and how many people were interested in it. Holding contests, asking for votes for awards/noms
And then from s2 to 3 suddenly stiles and derek have very little screen time together, few scenes, and even the actors mentioned it. Coincidentally in s3 both characters got new female love interests (aside from lydia, almost erica and kate in previous seasons). And who knows if it's a coincidence that jennifer/Julia looks similar to stiles (as does paige) Or just an unlucky happenstance. And that Cora was Derek's sister, and malia Derek's cousin... plus the whole bi stiles baiting which was also insane
At least s3 kinda had an interesting story so fans stuck with the show even if they weren't totally happy. (Oh and in s3 we got the danny ethan couple, so teen wolf was fine with pairing up gay characters as long as they were disposable side characters, and s5 there was Mason and corey also disposable side characters)
And because teen wolf loves giving many of its fans exactly what they don't want, we got few sterek scenes (less than s3?) In s4 and fucking kate again. But this time the story couldn't distract us plus they added so many new characters it was like a new worse version of tw...
And then hoechlin abruptly (understandably) left the show.
Not to forget the bwt interview that was quite a slap in the face to sterek fans after the cast had only spoken 'kindly' of it the years previous . And then the 'if you're watching the show for sterek you're watching it for the wrong reason' (paraphrasing, can't remember the quote right now). Plus the sterek ban..
Also during s1 and s2 there's plenty of interviews hoechlin and dylan did together (as duo or group)..and then suddenly you'll have trouble finding interviews with both together and if they are both present there'll be 10 people sitting between them not letting them interact anymore.
Actors like Colton and Holland calling themselves captain of the sterek ship... the we're on a ship video, the fake announcement with hand holding at sdcc '12
Then at cons or in interviews we have dylan and hoechlin talking about how they pitched scenes to Jeff and the writers, stiles and derek/sterek scenes. And they were ignored or given to other characters which is such a disrespect. And had fans upset bc their suggestions were scenes that would've meant sth to the characters and relationship and would've felt real and been good TV.
The fact that to this day we don't know why sterek never happened? They just ignored its existence while still profiting off of the few scenes they could squeeze in
A dishonorable mention that's important in my opinion is also how the toxic tw Fandom is also a reason some people moved away, it certainly drove me away for a while. Why would I want to be present in a Fandom where you get called a creep and weird and disrespectful and more ...
When you (sterek fandom) get shot at from all sides even though you literally played a major role in teen wolf making it to even season 3 (maybe even 2?)... and some point you have enough
But apparently mtv/Jeff didn't have enough because they wanted to bait sterek fans yet again for the movie..however sterek fans for a large part don't give a shit. Like we'll have one person sacrifice their sanity so they can make gifts and pics and clips and then only interact with that . Why watch the movie when we can actually write or create what we want ourselves?
But sure, stereks are the villains for expanding on the very limited character info, giving derek and stiles more life than Jeff ever could. For bringing a ship to life simply because dylan and hoech have such great chemistry, so Jeff can't take the credit. For creating more art for our ship than other ships did for theirs. For thinking about what was established in the show, not shrugging off their past but thinking about the fire and kate and stiles' mom and his dad's alcoholism (?). For calling out teen wolf because they refused to keep track of their lore. Getting called crazy for simply using previously established lore on sterek scenes, and deducing stiles must be Derek's anchor, that stiles and derek probably hung out a lot off screen to know so much about each other/risk their life and career for each other, that derek probably broke through a love spell bc of his trust in stiles, why did stiles have dereks name on the king, why was derek so protective of stiles who was nogitsune, ..
i've watched some sterek videos over the past few months since the movie dropped of people trying to analyze the ship and like so much of it is that you had to be there.
teen wolf fandom was one of those first fandoms that really broke down the 4th wall. davis got run off tumblr for fuck's sake and deleted his twitter if memory serves.
so much of this context is now attached to deleted twitters and deactivated tumblrs.
perhaps one day i'll dig into my tags and hunt stuff down because i remember things. things like the actor for matt dahler commenting on his character's "pretty good pair" line in season 2 and how it got fandom in a titter because it was a shoutout. teen wolf social media was good at getting engagement by teasing all sorts of utter bullshit. they were very good at the carrot and stick method to keep fans coming back again and again and again.
but these post-show autopsies lack this kind of context and over rely on the boat videos for teen choice and posey's comments.
there were a lot of things that sort of culminated together that had people shipping the pairing and abandoning the show. it was not exclusive to be a sterek shipper to eventually leave the show.
it's really kind of fascinating.
#im gonna stop before i go down a rabbit hole and start Looking for things lol#sterek#reblogged post#added my 2 cents#just some thoughts#times like these i wish i was more active on tumblr back in the day#just remembered the wolf watch of it all but i need to stop procrastinating right now#my mini rant is all over the place im sorry i tried to bring order and steucture but i failed#there could qnd should be a movie about teen wolf and sterek lol a true crime documentary haha

hey, love your thoughts on hannibal and wills relationship and feelings for each other! i was wondering if you could link me interviews/direct quotes from mads or hugh about that topic as well? i’ve seen many quotes from mads about hannibals thoughts/feelings for will floating around tumblr, but rarely with any receipts or sources. thank you! :)
Hello! Thank you so much! And sure, I'll try.
Mads Mikkelsen on ‘Which scene has been the defining moment?'
"Probably one of the moments early on, maybe mid first season, where I spend some quality time in therapy session with Hugh and he’s flying away thinking about something and I have the chance, Hannibal has the chance, to watch him. And he becomes very warm watching him. He sees not only this brilliant person but he sees something he loves. I think that is the definition of Hannibal."
2. Hugh and Mads during PaleyFest 2014.
Hugh: They are in love or they love each other, that's unquestionable. I think it's a platonic love... but it's rich in... (audience and cast laughs) Ok, we've done two seasons so far... so platonic love and they recognize each other as unique in the world, they reflect each other in a way, it's like profound recognition and relief that comes with it. And they are good looking guys.
Mads: Exactly. Losing him or what Hannibal did with him in the two seasons is probably the closest he has ever been to loving anyone. And what love means in his universe we have to see later on. But it's heartbreaking everything that happens to poor Will is also heartbreaking for Hannibal.
3. Hugh and Mads about the second half of S3 for Fangoria.
Hugh: You could say that during the second half [of season three]-I mean, obviously we’re jumping ahead here, but Will comes back to Hannibal. He’s now got this family, and Will, independently and pretty quickly, starts coming to the conclusion that it’s not sustainable for him to have that family. Like, he’s not the guy. He’s not the right person to be able to look after them, to live with them. It’s not compatible with who he really is. And you could argue that Hannibal is just driving him more quickly to come to that realization. So in that sense, it is kind of brutal, tough love. His love is saying, “Know thyself.
Mads: As Hugh is saying, it’s unavoidable. It’s going to happen sooner or later. Might as well happen sooner, before he’s stuck.
4. Prior to S3. Mads.
"I recently watched the whole second season back to back, and I was really impressed by how what is basically a horror show becomes a romance."
5. Mads: "He fell in love."
"It's always been part of the show. It's been a bromance since the very beginning and in my eyes, there is no doubt that the second that Hannibal lays his eyes on Will’s for the first time, he fell in love. Not necessarily in a physical way, but in a bonding way.
6. Mads on S2 finale.
"Hannibal doesn't have a masterplan. He's living from day to day and he's seeing possibilities and opportunities, and one of them is Will Graham, who he is obviously in love with, in a certain way - that way. But I think at that time, Hannibal has been blinded by Will Graham. He believes truly that he will walk down the path with the light, hand in hand, with Will - and Abigail. That's his dream, that's what he wants, and I think it does surprise him and it does break his heart. It is a turning point for Hannibal when he becomes the cleaning man instead of the man who loves. Until then, he'd been a man full of love, and after that, I think he is... slightly angry. It was a surprise for him. He was tricked. He got blinded by love."
7. Mads during S1.
"When he sees Will, he recognizes himself to a degree. [Hannibal] has empathy, but [he] uses it as a tool; Will has empathy, but he doesn’t know what to do with it. Lecter sees an opportunity to open this man’s eyes and see his full potential realized. And he also sees the opportunity for a friend, which is probably not what he’s had too many of. Even though Hannibal is the puppeteer, he really loves Will."
8. Mads Mikkelsen on whether Hannibal was really crying in S2 finale:
"Will Graham is the dearest thing I have. Will Graham to Hannibal is the thing in life that he has loved the most. And unfortunately he didn’t go down the path I want him to go down. So I have to finish the story right there and it breaks his heart. So Hannibal is actually really sad."
9. Hugh about Will and Hannibal:
"The show is about romance and it is about love between the two of them. I mean profound and inescapable love."
10. Commentary to S3 from Bryan and Hugh.
Bryan: I remember the day you shot the closeups, you both came running to me and I remember Mads was particularly giddy, giddy as a schoolgirl, he said we really went for it, we really went for the love story, we almost kissed and it's all there and you can use it.
Hugh: We had to push in that direction so that there is no point pretending otherwise.
11. Hugh about the start of Will and Hannibal's relationship:
"It’s an instant love between them, it is as if Will met not the best chess player in the world, but the only absolute, the only person he can play with, that enters in the room - or rather, in his life - with a chessboard in hand, and this provokes in him a pleasure and an incredible relief. When we find Will at the beginning of the second season, he was betrayed and thrown in jail, so he is not in a really enviable situation, but the connection he had with Hannibal has remained unchanged, it is something which he can not get rid of. This time, however, he manipulates their connection because Hannibal still needs him and their friendship, but beyond the practical utility must be said that the bond with Hannibal is, even for Will, a source of uncontrolled, involuntary pleasure.”
12. Hugh answering if he’s surprised at the reaction Hannigram has gotten and how it’s romanticized by the fans:
"No, because I think Bryan is fully engaged in romanticizing it. I think it comes from #1, in that respect. I don’t think that Bryan set out to write that. I don’t think that he necessarily envisioned it. Whether it came from his subconscious, or whether it’s there, sitting in the novels, or whether it’s something we created when we came together to make the first episode, but he ran with it, and we all ran with it. It is now about these two men who are completely alone in a big, bleak world, and then see, coming across the horizon, the other person who reminds them of themselves, somehow. That, to me, is endlessly fascinating."
13. Hugh when asked if the romance between Will and Hannibal is dead after Hannibal trying to saw his head open:
"Oh, it’s just starting. It’s just getting started. I mean, if a bit of a kind of awful violence was gonna end it between us, we would’ve tapered it off a long time ago. It’s just bringing us closer."
14. Some stuff with no links since it was said at the con:
Mads: "Will is the light of Hannibal's life and Hannibal killed Abigail to break Will's heart the way he broke his."
Mads: "Will forgetting him was the last thing Hannibal wanted to hear, so that’s why he surrendered. The only way Will would see him again is if he’s in jail, and he would eventually visit. He was afraid he’d never see Will again otherwise."
Mads: "Hannibal and Will are now married, have dogs which he calls “the ugly carpets” of the relationship, and live in seclusion for 4 years before hunting together."
Mads in May 2018: "I think that Hannibal and Will… they’re not really alive without each other. They are a piece of the puzzle for the other one’s soul.”
Mads: Hannibal sees an opportunity in this young man. And so he can hopefully, one day, walk hand in hand down the road of life.
Hugh: For both of them, it’s a relief from loneliness. And I guess that’s love, right? …Suddenly the world makes more sense.’
Hugh on why it took Will a conversation with Bedelia to realize he's in love: "Oh crap, maybe this thing I’m feeling is love."

I have to wonder if Natalia knows how season 5 ends for her character. I remember her saying after S3 that she didn't know what would happen with her character in S4 but her comments in an interview post S3 on Nancy's unresolved relationship with Steve and wondering if they would reconnect makes it obvious that the differs had told her about the stancy storyline in S4. I keep looking out for clues in interviews she does and the only thing that's she mentions regularly is about Nancy maybe needing some time by herself, which makes me wonder if she'll end up single and they'll leave it open for interpretation in an epilogue if she reconnect with one of the guys years later .
That’s a good question; I don’t think she knows, yet I also take her and any other interviews as hints lol. I can’t tell if the post s3 interviews she was just saying what she hoped would happen but didn’t know, or bc the Byers had moved away so she figured she’d prob be in a group with Steve, or the Duffers had told her. Likewise here, I’m not sure if it’s a hint, or she just wants Nancy to be single bc it’s a way out of the love triangle (and love triangle answers), or if she knows anything about s5. Or if she’s hinting to the writers what she wants and hope they write it. The whole cast tries to get hints from the Duffers about where their plot is going, but she’s also said she really doesn’t know where the love triangle is going, and I feel like maybe the writing team doesn’t either, so hasn’t told anyone.
I was sorta guessing Nancy could be single bc if the writers watched that interview, they could see how badly they’ve botched the love triangle and put her in a weird position. I could also see if they first thought they were subverting expectations by bringing back stancy in s5, they could think they’d subvert expectations even more by ultimately have Nancy with neither, and off at school pursuing journalism in the epilogue, which works with her character tbh. And then fans would just hc whoever she ends up with in the future. But that’s just my guessing atm about what the writers will do; my guess changes as we get more quotes/interviews.

Indiewire's editor-at-large and awards editor Anne Thompson (aka the person who gets the big assignments) interviewed Pedro Pascal at length re: his double turn as the Mandalorian and Max Lord at the end of last year. (Hat tip to @pedropascalisathot for bringing it to our attention, like, 4 hours ago ahead of everyone else.) From previous cover stories, we know how he prepped himself for WW84 but this is the first time he's allowed to talk about Din's emotional journey with the child through the face reveal and he even touches, briefly, on what we can expect in S3. Interview word count alone's almost 2,000 (YES!) so a must-read for all of us dying to "hear" from him.
The article also quotes Filoni from a previous interview Thompson did last year with him, Bryce Dallas Howard and Taika Waititi just before the show landed 15 Emmy nominations. (I'm mad at myself for missing that interview round but anyhow...) I think that was the first time Filoni’s been on record re: Pedro's portrayal (Favreau's usually the spokesperson for the show):
Many things could have thrown this deceptively simple E-ride off the tracks. But here’s what Favreau, Filoni, and company did right: [...]
They were willing to keep lead actor Pedro Pascal hidden behind a mask.
Casting Pascal was crucial (in the tradition of James Earl Jones’ Darth Vader) to bringing to life Mando, the laconic and anti-heroic Mandalorian. And Favreau and Filoni made the choice to go forward with almost eight full episodes with Pascal’s face covered. That took guts.
Filoni disagrees. “The Man with No Name has no identity,” he said. “To reveal his face could become a big reveal, a powerful thing. It’s intense to do. There’s a lot of magic to it. The costume itself is wonderfully made (it’s not metal), the helmet details and design. Just as a cowboy uses the brim of his hat over his eyes to throw more intense shadows on his face, the visor mimicked the way that the shape would move. But Pedro brought the character to life.”
Pascal, an athletic actor who is dangerous and charismatic in both “Narcos” and “Game of Thrones,” was Favreau’s idea. “He can be charming and intense,” Filoni said. “All this street cred for fighting, you believe that. The Mandalorian is not a man of many words. That’s part of his charm. What he says is more meaningful, as he gets fond of the kid.”
Besides, admitted Filoni: with a man in a mask, it’s easier to loop in dialogue.

Find Afrocurl’s work // AO3 // LJ interview from vmfictitious // originally posted Mar. 20th, 2011
How did you get into Veronica Mars fandom?
Somewhere in the middle of S2, a friend of mine from high school started to talk about this show and how much I’d like it. At the general description of a high school detective, I borrowed her S1 DVDs and devoured the show in three days. After that I started to discover fandom, mostly because I used Inigo’s transcripts to keep myself up with what the show was doing before I could watch live.
Shortly after starting the show, I had this job where I spent too much time in an office and was easily bored. I used a bunch of downtime to read fic and post in a message board (FanForum for anyone curious.) When that job ended (thankfully) I had all of this spare time and just sort of fell into writing.
Were you an experienced writer when you started writing for VM? If so, what kind of writing had you done, and/or what fandoms had you written for? If not, was it really intimidating to post your first story?
I’m a little fuzzy on these details right now, but I wasn’t that experienced when I started writing in VM. I think I had a story or two written in The OC before I posted here, but I had some great support from a few friends (sarah_p // Sarah's Crack ) for one was a big support) when I did post my first story.
What was it about Veronica Mars that interested you? Why did you feel compelled to write for this particular show?
I really fell for the characters when I started to watch. Veronica was such a compelling character, and as I kept watching I fell more in love with Logan, too. I felt compelled in that post-S2 summer to see the relationship between Logan and Veronica explored (as so many other people did.)
Are you creative in other media for fandom (vidding, icons, etc.)?
I pick up making icons here and there, but I don’t think I have the same skill as many other people do. It’s a different creative medium, and one that I think stretches a different part of my brain.
What was the best moment for you, in fandom? (Not necessarily a moment in the show, but fandom itself.)
I think it was the moment when I found myself in a position to go to all of these events around LA and San Diego. I found that people around LJ were interested as a result because there was something for people to enjoy that I had been able to capture.
If you had a magic wand, and could change VM fandom in any way, past or present, what would you do?
I wish S3 hadn’t been so divisive—it’s spoiled so many people on the show, and when you still love parts of it, but not all of it, it’s hard to stay positive around other people.
Of your accomplishments in fandom/cyberspace, which are you most proud of?
Weirdly, I think it’s little things I’ve done that bring a smile to my face. Sharing my time with the cast with others in any way. That’s not just the picspams when I went to an event, but these moments where I could get autographs or phone calls to other people. At different times, I’ve been able to make a friend’s birthday just a little brighter with a message from the cast (Sarah and another friend M.)
What’s your favorite VM episode and why?
I go back and forth on this answer all of the time, but I think it’s Ain’t No Magic Mountain High Enough. In part because it was the first episode I remember watching live, and also because I’m a sucker for banter between Logan and Veronica. That whole episode is filled with it, even if they aren’t together as a couple.
What’s your least favorite episode and why?
Blast from the Past—I just can’t get behind the mystery of the week, or what Jackie does to Veronica as a way to keep Wallace to herself.
How do you feel about season 3?
I’m a mixed bag on the subject. I think that the first arc has promise, though it didn’t do much to satisfy my need for Logan and Veronica in a healthy relationship. I’m not a fan of how Piz was introduced, or what his purpose was in the long run.
The Dean O’Dell arc lacks heart (and the Hearst rapist does too when I look at it), and the last five are just all over the place.
In total, I haven’t brought myself to rewatch the whole season since it aired, but I made a promise to myself at some point I would (I plan to live-blog all of the episodes, but I only managed to finish the first three.)
If you met Rob Thomas, what would you say to him? (Assume that you have taken magical drugs that enable you to not be tongue-tied and you can completely speak your mind.)
I briefly met him and talked to him during season three, but if I could have a longer conversation, I’d really want to understand what his motives were for Logan and Veronica in that season. It seemed that the show always had Logan and Veronica together off screen so that the audience had no real reason to understand those later break-ups.
If you could talk to the writing staff, what question(s) would you have for them?
I’m always interested in some of the specifics of the room—are there any writers who cater to writing for certain characters? What characters do you like to write more than others? I think I’m just interested in their process more than anything else.
Writing
Which story of yours is your favorite, and why?
I’m really a fan of “The Black Hole” because I think it was a different sort of writing exercise for me. I also think I was really into the moment when I wrote it, and it shows. I can’t remember how long it took me to write, but I think it was a pretty quick write once I had the idea solidified in my head.
Are there any stories of yours that are (to your surprise) fan favorites?
Not really a surprise, but I love the reaction I had to Rational Thought. My Piz issues just got one big escape in that piece and everyone who read it had a similar reaction.
Do you (or did you at first) feel uncomfortable posting R or NC17 rated stories?
I think I was a bit apprehensive the first time (especially since it was my first fic in the fandom), but as I’ve written more and more of those fics, I’m more comfortable with the ways of writing it. I also love all of my betas who help me through the mechanics of writing it.
If you could start over and rewrite any of your stories (assume unlimited time and you would be paid for your efforts, because this is a fantasy), which story would you choose, and what changes would you make?
I’m not proud of Compulsion as it was written in the end, so I’d work there and really craft the narrative more than it is now. It’s not that it’s not beta-ed, but that it wasn’t really planned or structured beyond what is written. I think there was promise in the beginning and it floundered.
Do you write for any other fandoms?
I write here and there in a few other fandoms, but most of my work is in VM. Some of the other shows are harder to get a feel for, so much that I don’t know if I have the character voices down.
Do you write any original works, and if so, can we see any of them? Have you ever taken any writing classes? Have you ever published anything? Won any competitions?
I wrote a few pieces of original fic, which are at my writing community. I haven’t been one to take a writing course, but in high school I had an award-winning poem at the local county fair.
That piece, I wrote was in my junior year of high school, spring semester (so let’s call is March 2000.) We had to write an emulation of Langston Hughes’s “I Am”, and I went all out—confused kid to the max. My teacher ate most of it up, and had me submit it to the Fair. It went on to win the best poem for high schoolers, the best high school piece and Best in Show for all student work. I have three lovely ribbons, a paper weight to show for it.
What other VM author influenced you the most? Do you have a favorite VM story (by another author)?
I spent most of my time reading things from Loveathons and Fic From Mars when I was reading, so I guess any of those authors. I really love dark_roast’s ( dark_roast) style. I think mutiousmuse and truemyth (TrueMyth) each have some amazing pieces, too. What’s great about being part of fandom is learning how much else you have in common with authors you love. I’m still friends with Musey and Truemyth after I met them at Comic Con in 2006.
Overall, I think my favorite story is Finite Erasure (TW), which puts me in the camp of loving angst. I worked with Trixx (Trixx) as she wrote it and I think I fell for the story she was telling and how much it hurt along the way.
What fanfic do you wish you’d had the idea for and written yourself?
If I had a mind for her particular brand of crazy, I’d have love to have written One True Pair, because the creativity and perspective amaze me.
Who are your favorite traditional authors? Do you have a favorite book or series?
I love Oscar Wilde’s wit; I love Fitzgerald’s use of flawed characters. When I was in college I became a huge fan of Isaac Bashevis Singer. Sadly I’m not a huge book fan, though I do love words and compelling stories. Persuasion is one of my favorite stories, along with The Alchemist. I found myself more easily distracted by television as a kid and when I do get a book, I tend to read some fluffy chick-lit.
Getting to Know You
To which character in VM do you feel you are the most similar, or what situation in VM reminds you of your own life?
Even though I don’t write her enough, I feel like I’m a slightly less tech-savvy version of Mac. I wasn’t one to have boyfriends in high school, and I think that just influences my outlook now.
Share a fun memory with us, something related to fandom.
This moment at an event in San Diego where my friends and I spent a good five minutes trying to remember the Eleanor Roosevelt quote from Logan’s voicemail.
Or the time I had Jason write a message to my journal without him really knowing where it was going.
Dog person, cat person, neither or both?
Cat person! My cat Auric loves everyone he meets, and wants to keep me from my computer when I leave it open in his presence. He really loves to sit on my keyboard when I’m not around.
What was the happiest day in your life (that you can share with us)?
December 12, 2000—the day I got into college. I’m pretty lame most of the time.
The apocalypse is on us. You’ve got five minutes to gather your stuff before you flee (assume that your loved ones are already safe). What do you take?
This is going to be pretty typical, but my laptop, and external hard drives, so I’m not without my pictures. Maybe a few of my autographs and old-school photos too.
What don’t we know about you, that we should know?
I’m not nearly as interesting as I sound on the internet. ;)
The Nuts and Bolts of Writing
Do you consider yourself a stickler for grammar, or do you prefer a more casual approach? Specifically, serial comma: for or against?
I’m weirdly a stickler for grammar when I’m not the one writing. I’m usually for the serial comma, which I blame on years of it being grilled into my head from school.
What grammar issue do you constantly have to struggle with?
Spelling—I’m horrible at it most of the time.
Do you have any writing reference books you can’t live without?
I have a few copies of writing guides tucked away in my garage, but I don’t regularly look at them when I’m writing.
Are you a plotter or a “pantser”? (Do you outline your stories or do you write “by the seat of your pants”?)
It really depends on the story. I have some basic idea of a fic when I start to write it, but there are times when I only know that general outline and other times when I have a better plan.
There’s one story that’s been buried on my computer that’s plotted more than anything else I write. There are notes on how each chapter should work, but I only did that because it was a true multi-chapter fic.
My other fics that have turned into WIPs are not as plotted as they should be.
What’s your favorite point-of-view to write?
I love third-person more than anything else. It gives you the flexibility to talk about more than one person in the context of the story.
What type of writing is your favorite to write (dialogue, plot, action, interior monologue, description, sex scene, etc.)? Your least favorite?
Dialogue—no questions. I love banter as much as anyone else.
My least favorite—probably sex scenes. They’re awkward to figure out, positions, how clinical but not too clinical.
Do you listen to music while you write? Do you listen to different music depending on what you’re writing?
I do, unless I’m watching TV. My music doesn’t change depending on what I write, though maybe it should. My poor iTunes has been known to be demonic when I read fic, though it doesn’t do that as often when I’m writing.
What inspires you to write?
I like motivational moments that can drive a point home—so I tend to write shorter pieces that are about emotions instead of plot driven.
What blocks you from writing?
Lack of time. The inability to express what I’m looking for.
Specifically for Afrocurl!
What surprised you the most about Jason Dohring in person (that you can share with us)?
He’s a genuinely sweet person who adores his fans and what they do for him. I’d never had too many experiences with actors before I met him and he set the stage for being kind to fans.
How is he like Logan? How is he not like Logan? Did he do anything that freaked you out after watching him on TV so much?
I think he has Logan’s physical ticks—hair rakes and the like.
He’s not as precise with language as Logan. In person he’s sort of like any other California guy I’ve met.
Which story of yours would it appall you the most to find out that Jason had read?
The Weevil and Logan story. I think he’d blush and be shocked at the subject more than anything.
Which of your celebrity encounters thrilled you to death, but the rest of world could care less?
The girl who loves politics was thrilled by meeting Justice Scalia at my college. Though I’m sure I’m the only one who can appreciate it now.
We know you do a lot for charities. Do you have anything coming up that we should know about, that you’d like us to support?
Since Sweet Charity has ended, I haven’t done much work for charity recently. I’ve been a little too busy with the rest of life to help out with the Queensland floods and the like.
What’s your dream job?
Working at a high school teaching either Government or US History, maybe AP if that’s an option.
Your life seems to be going through a lot of changes right now. How do you see yourself ten years from now?...family, job, hobbies, etc., anything you want to share with us.
I’d love to have a stable job, with friends and family nearby for support. I can’t hope for much else than that right now.

In depth fandom ask: the last fandom you joined bc I can't remember it now
Well, I guess the last fandom I’ve properly joined --making a few edits, starting yet-another-WIP etc.-- is Black Sails, so. Plus I want to talk about it a little, spoiler-free, in case you decide to watch it ^-^ (I’ll leave that to the s3 post I need to finish...).
Top 5 favourite characters: Max is my number one, without a doubt, and of the rest of my faves Silver has an edge... but the remaining positions are a tough fight between Flint, Jack, Madi and Miranda, and I honestly can’t choose DD:
Other characters you like: Mr. Scott, Anne, Idelle, the Maroon Queen, Billy, Eme, Abigail... This show has a lot of great characters tbh.
Least favourite characters: I still loathe Peter Ashe with every fiber of my being. Alfred Hamilton is obviously The Worst(TM). And though it hasn’t grown into hate (yet), I don’t like Woodes Rogers one bit ¬¬
Otps: Flint/Miranda, and the combos in Flint/Madi/Silver and Anne/Jack/Max (in no particular order at the moment because I just HAVE TONS OF FEELS ABOUT THEM ALL).
Notps: I don’t have strong NOPE feelings towards anything, but I’m not into Eleanor/Max (which is a dynamic I actually really like BUT that I’m glad it doesn’t return to shippiness LOL); Eleanor/Rogers (I might be indifferent towards Eleanor most of the time but I haaaaaate Rogers for her. RUN GIRL), Flint/Vane (booooooooring).
Favourite friendships: Max & Silver (THE duo I swear), Jack & Max, Flint & Silver, Idelle & Max (I might not have said so before but I guess I like a little conflict LMFAO), Billy & Flint (NOT a friendship, but their relationship absolutely cracks me up I swear. “Who’s Billy?” XDDD).
Favourite family: Madi’s family, which is all I can say without getting spoilery. I just. *lies down on the floor overcome with emotions* xDD
Favourite episodes: the problem with binge-watching (okay, I’ve taken s3 more slowly but) is that they all kinda blur together LOL. Hmm. The season finales are all *chefs kiss* so far (sometimes in a very painful way... I’m looking at you s2. Though the ominous Flint/Silver moments in the s3 were A LOT too); any in which I get to see Max & Silver scheming together ofc. And the first handful of eps in s3 were particularly enjoyable to me because I was drowning in PURE ANGST and Flint & Silver feels xDD (I can’t NOT believe the fandom seems to call one of those “the shark date” asñldfjasdfñl).
Favourite season/book/movie: oof. I honestly can’t pick; s1 is probably the “least” because the others include better moments for some of my secondary faves, and because there’s a plot that’s really hard to watch... BUT it has things on it I adore to pieces too. s1-2 doesn’t have Madi (major drawback xD), and s3 is after one of my faves’ death... but frankly they’re all neck and neck so far.
Favourite quotes: “I am ruined over you” always comes to mind DD: “Liked is just as good as feared”; Max combo with Eleanor about sand (typing that down made me think of Anidala LMFAO. The scene itself is very different though! xD) in the s1 finale; “in another time, in another place, they would call me a queen”; “this ends when I grant them my forgiveness, not the other way around”, Mr. Scott’s “No. Only YOU.”... honestly, this show’s dialogue is just too good(TM), I could just quote it all back xD. And of course, I HAVE to mention “WHO’S BILLY”. It’s the law.
Best musical moment: the score is perfection all around, but given that I never skip the intro just to listen and watch it... yeah, the intro xD
Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: well, I *might* have lost it the moment CAPTAIN FLINT COMES OUT TO LONG JOHN SILVER OVER A BONFIRE, IDK XDD
When it really disappointed you: the fact that I won’t get to see a fully fleshed out Mr. Scott-Silver dynamic is MAJORLY disappointing, let me tell you. That Flint’s actor didn’t somehow get his mother (aka Maggie Smith aka Professor McGonagall aka Lady Violet) on the show too ¬¬. LOL.
Saddest moment: character’s deaths of two of the characters listed on “top 5”/“others you like” xD.
Most well done character death: the hanging in 3x09 was well done and served its purpose.
Favourite guest star: for a value of “guest star”... I’m going with Idelle.
Favourite cast member: Jessica Parker Kennedy is the one that I know and love for other projects she’s done.
Character you wish was still alive: THE ONE WE TRAGICALLY LOST IN 2x09.
One thing you hope really happens: I’m cheating because I know there’s some of that in s4, but I want to watch more Flint/Madi interactions pls.
Most shocking twist: well, I wasn’t spoiled for Mr. Scott’s plot in s3 so I was (pleasantly) surprised by that xD
When did you start watching/reading?: a little over two weeks ago; I watched (devoured) s1-s2 and 3x01-3x04 in a few days because I wanted to meet Madi, and then I tragically had to slow down :(((
Best animal/creature: I will always love Treasure Islands’ parrot that Silver named after Flint LMFAO.
Favourite location: Nassau aka Max’s ~domain xD. And Miranda’s house.
Trope you wish they would stop using: noooooone. I love the tropes this show reuses LMFAO. Romantic Betrayals(TM), triumvirates, “good things happen in the dark/away from civilization”, the power of narratives, social climbing and revolt... bring them oooooon.
One thing this show/book/film does better than others: quite a few xD. But one that really stands out to me is the dialogue; both the ~deep and sorrowful type (there were so many quotes where I had to take a break to freak out properly lol), and the humorous ones.
Funniest moments: I know I’m repeating myself, but I recently rewatched the pilot to edit some scenes and I keep remember the WHO’S BILLY one xDD (which I maintain it was Flint trolling him. He could give Abigail a rundown of Billy’s whole life story AND he shamelessly checked him out that one time. Flint knows who Billy is, he’s just an asshole xD). Really, all the scenes between Billy and Flint in that episode are comedic gold lmfao. Billy’s “oh dear I fucked up” expression when he tells Flint the crew has started to think him weak and Flint looks half a second away from murdering him right there, his WTF face at Flint’s antics with the stolen page... Gold, seriously.
Couple you would like to see: I meannnnnn. I would’ve been very happy if the show had decided to go with Flint/Madi/Silver, for one. Bonus if Miranda could’ve been included. Or just explicit Flint/Silver in poly arrangements (THEY ARE IN LOVE, IT’S JUST ~COMPLICATED XD).
Actor/Actress you want to join the cast: MAGGIE SMITH DAMMIT.
Favourite outfit: literally everything Max wears in s3. Eleanor’s s1-s2 outfits were things I’d love to wear too. Flint’s ~dramatic coat. Miranda’s collection of supposedly-puritan-but-showing-the-goods dresses xDD (and ofc her London clothes), Jack’s clothes (he’s Nassau’s fashion icon lbr).
Favourite item: the books!! Especially when Flint gave Miranda “La Galatea” as a gift (given that sometimes he reminds me of my OC Latoya, you might understand the freakout I had when he gave the other member of my OTP a book titled like that xDD).
Do you own anything related to this show/book/film?: no, but I kinda want to. I did have a Treasure Planet computer game I tragically can’t find... it was about collecting money in increasingly difficult scenarios LOL. And I probably have more pirate-y/Treasure Island theme stuff. I had a long pirate phase xD
What house/team/group/friendship group/family/race etc would you be in?: Max’s because I like being on the winning team, thanks xD (though I do ~align more with Flint and Madi’s lbr...).
Most boring plotline: Eleanor and Vane’s ~romance is not at all badly written... but the fact that I find both of them boring kinda ruins the whole thing because I always wish that time went to someone else xD. Also, Blackbeard. Meh.
Most laughably bad moment: n/a.
Best flashback/flashfoward if any: the London flashback where Miranda goes to Flint’s house unannounced to take him to an art gallery, she finds him half-naked and he gets all awkward about it lmao. And then they hook up in the carriage :DDD
Most layered character: we get to explore Flint and Silver the most. Silver’s development in particular is something that never ceases to impress me ngl.
Most one dimensional character: except the one-note characters I wouldn’t really call anyone completely one-dimensional, tbh. Though I do think the fandom attributes more complexity to Thomas than it’s seen in canon? Like, I like what I see; I think he’s functional, he works well, and he adds wonderfully to Flint’s (and Miranda’s) story, but I don’t see him as a full character in his own right. Which is perfectly fine for the narrative so far, but I fear it might fall apart for me at the very end.
Scariest moment: I never know what to say in this... I mean, I guess Flint killing a man with his bare hands in the pilot Like That was scary xD. I understand why Silver freaked out LOL.
Grossest moment: any of Max’s interactions with Vane tbh. Stay away from her ¬¬
Best looking male: Flint has that ruggedly handsome thing going on for him, if you’re into that (and sometimes I do appreciate his ~aesthetics... very sad he shaved his head in s3 though. Like, I get you did it for the Angst, honey, and trust me, I Feel U, but still). I feel like I might be forgetting someone, but seriously, none of the dudes in this show so far do anything for me LOL. I can honestly say I love them for their personalities xDD
Best looking female: I have a weakness for Max, but Miranda, Madi, Anne, the Maroon Queen, Idelle, Eme... all of them are gorgeous in their own way. This show is good for sapphic women’s enjoyment in that sense xDD.
Who you’re crushing on (if any): I could crush on any of the women mentioned above tbh.
Favourite cast moment: I have literally only seen this post about an interview where Flint’s actor says he’s too old to party with The Youth of the cast and just wants to chill on the weekend... with bonus Max and Eleanor’s actress talking about how Vane’s once climbed the side of a building up AND back down. I’m with you, Toby Stephens, you don’t need those shenanigans xDD
Favourite transportation: the Walrus, for sentimental reasons LOL. I liked stolen Spanish warship too.
Most beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise): lots of good ones, though I think my fave might be the one of Miranda sitting by the window in London. Or the one of Charles Town burning down, I liked that :))) (I remember thinking “Flint better go full Daenerys on them”. And he did! It was nice xD).
Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you: n/a, so far.
Best promo: n/a.
At what point did you fall in love with this show/book: I liked it from the word go, but the moment that TRULY cemented it for me was in 1x03, with Max making a decision that I... frankly didn’t expect. It made things worse for her in the short-term, the storyline itself was difficult and disturbing to watch and I still have some mixed feelings about it. But what it said about her as a character and how her journey goes after that... I was in awe of her, and of the show.

The 100?
Thank you Nonnie!!! :)
Top 5 favourite characters:
Echo / Emori / Raven / Murphy / Octavia
Other characters you like:
A lot, actually! Off the top of my head, Lexa, Clarke (although not in the way most people like her, I enjoy her as an anti-hero lmao), Bellamy, Monty, Jasper, Lincoln, Indra!
Least favourite characters:
Aside from the obvious villains obviously, I’m gonna say Kane and Abby. I never really cared for their stories, I’ve hated Abby since season 1 and Kane since s5 there’s just something about them being absolutely awful leaders and blaming kids for their failures that I can’t get behind.
Otps:
Basically lmao.
No but seriously, I think their love story is just great on so many levels, they’re the only love story I really care about in the show.
Other couples I really like are: Bellamy and Echo, Octavia and Lincoln, Octavia and Niylah, Octavia and Diyoza, Murphy and Emori and Raven, Echo and Raven, Jasper and Maya, Monty and Harper
Notps:
..... Bellarke lmao.
I enjoy the dynamic between Bellamy and Clarke, but I never saw it as romantic, and that’s how I enjoyed it. I love their ennemies to reluctant allies dynamic, I love the fact that their relationship is dysfunctional I love the parallels between Clarke and Octavia. But I don’t enjoy it at all as a romantic dynamic.
Favourite friendships:
Monty and Jasper, Octavia and Jasper, Raven and Murphy
Favourite family:
This is almost only found family because this show has a ton of found family dnamics that I love!! The Blake siblings, Spacekru, Octavia Diyoza and Hope, Raven and Finn.
Favourite episodes:
Murphy’s Law, Blood Must have Blood part 1 and part 2, Thirteen, The Chosen, Pramfayia, Red Queen, The Garden
Favourite season/book/movie:
Season 2. It has my favorite version of Lexa, it has Bellamy and Echo meeting, it has the most interesting antagonists (in my opinion haha). Season 4 is a close second though!
Favourite quotes:
“You believe that to defeat an ennemy who will stop at nothing, you must stop at nothing. How is that any different than Blood must have Blood?” - Luna in s3, because I think this quote shows very well the central conflict of the show, one that was established by Finn in s1: We have to try not to repeat history, and yet everytime, they do repeat it. I disagree with Luna in that instance because the threat that was ALI wasn’t like any other, but I agree with her sentiment.
“In peace, may you leave this shore. In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels. Until our final journey to the Ground. May we meet again.” LISTEN. If there’s is one thing of the world building I absolutely adore, it’s the Traveler’s Blessing. It’s a beautiful prayer, and it gives me all the right emotions when I think about it. I was disappointed with what the show was making of it in seasons 2 and 3, with characters saying it all around, but then there are two instances that really get to me: Octavia and Bellamy saying it over the dead radio at the end of s4, and Monty / Bellamy and Clarke saying it at the end of season 5.
Best musical moment:
I loved the way the music carried the scene right after Lexa’s death, how it melts from Lexa’s death and Titus saying his ritual words, to Becca reaching earth, back to Lexa and the Flame coming out of her.
Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest:
Oh boy there are a LOT Off the top of my head: when Monty refuses to leave Jasper alone when he gives his blood to Maya, when Murphy says “Touch me again and I’ll end you... in a non-criminal way”, when Becho was confirmed in s5, When Clarke managed to align the satellite dish in Pramfyia, when Octavia confronted Skaikru in The Chosen,.... I can’t think of others right now but there are a lot lmao You can check out my favorite scenes series if you want, I’m working on it slowly!
When it really disappointed you:
A lot of times, honestly... I’m gonna say, all of season 6. I hated it. It had so much potential, with characters having to deal with the aftermath of season 5, Monty and Harper dying, Jordan existing, Wonkru.... Instead we got a whole mess that didn’t do much for any character and I was really disappointed.
Saddest moment:
Lincoln’s death. I knew it was coming because I knew the actor was leaving the show, but I was so NOT READY for it omg it’s the scene I still cry everytime I watch it because it’s so sad and heartwrenching....
Most well done character death:
Okay so I think The 100 is really bad at having well done character deaths, so I’m gonna say my less well-done one lmaoooo
Lexa’s. Her death was so stupid. I wasn’t in the fandom at the time so I wasn’t aware of the awful queerbaiting that was going on, so without talking about BTS and marketing ploys, I do believe that her death was heavily predicted by the show. However, it was a stupid death and Lexa was too awesome a character to die by a stray bullet. She deserved a proper send-off, she deserved to die in an epic battle, or fighting for what she believed in,..... not a bullet.
Favourite guest star:
I know Shawn Mendes (Mendez? I don’t know lmao i don’t know him) was a guest star but I don’t know any other guest star so I guess that’s my answer lmao
Favourite cast member:
I don’t follow the cast, so I don’t have a favorite xD
Character you wish was still alive:
Jasper and Finn both deserve to still be alive, because the show treated their mental struggles like shit and I’m very bitter about that!
One thing you hope really happens:
Honestly, I don’t know? We have four episodes left of the entire show and I have no idea where it’s headed lmao I guess I hope both Emori and Murphy survive to see the end and have a long and happy life <3
Most shocking twist:
Okay I actually have three so I’ll you my top three:
1- The revelation of the Mountain Men. I was absolutely NOT expecting this to happen and I was gasping and going “nooooooooo way!!!” at my computer because it was so out of nowhere!! I loved it lmao
2- Murphy discovers that ALI destroyed the world: the ending of s2. That scene is so chilling, Murphy watching the video of Chris crying and killing himself, cut with scenes of Jaha getting to the mansion and the wholse scene with ALI herself... that whole scene was really cool and unexpected!
3- Clarke and Jaha steal the bunker during the conclave. I was so SHOOK by this moment, it was such a bold move and I loved it!
When did you start watching/reading?:
Early January, 2015. I was back at my appartment waiting for the semester to start, my roommates weren’t back from the holidays yet, and I was bored. So I started the show, and I binged all of season 1 and half of season 2 in 24 hours xD I caught up at Spacewalker, and then had to wait two weeks for the next episode to air and it was agony!!!!
Best animal/creature:
HELIOS THE BEST HORSE THERE IS
Favourite location:
The Second Dawn Bunker. Yeah I know it’s strange coming from me because I absolutely hate so many things about the bunker xD But it was such a cool location!! With the rotunda/arena, the farm, the huge corridors,.....
Trope you wish they would stop using:
“It’s the end of the world, whatever shall we do???” I’m just tired you guys. Nuclear apocalypses and other bombings should not be that common lmao
One thing this show/book/film does better than others:
I love the fact that it has so many different and well developped female characters. It shouldn’t be rare, but it still is, and this show really stands out to me for that reason. I’m not saying it’s the peak of feminism or anything because lmao IT’S NOT. But the women of the show have agency, freedom, they’re all distinct from one another and not just tropes and cliches. I really like it.
Funniest moments:
Nothing comes to mind right now? I feel like an idiot lmao I have so many moments that make me laugh and I can’t think of a single one right now x)
Couple you would like to see:
I would love to have canon Murphy x Emori x Raven!!
Actor/Actress you want to join the cast:
Nobody haha sorry
Favourite outfit:
Blodreina’s cape thingy!
Favourite item:
Raven’s necklace!!! I’m actually hoping to make myself one someday, it’s my favorite thing ^^
Do you own anything related to this show/book/film?:
Nothing!
What house/team/group/friendship group/family/race etc would you be in?:
I wish I could be spacekru haha they’re the best found family of the whole show and we deserved a flashback episode for them <3
Most boring plotline:
the entirety of season 6 xDDDDD
No but seriously, I’m gona say Illian’s plot. Honestly I never got into it at all, I didn’t care enough about him, or his family.
Most laughably bad moment:
I mean, the pilot is pretty cringe-worthy xD
Best flashback/flashfoward if any:
the flashbacks of the Dark Year.
Most layered character:
Octavia
Most one dimensional character:
Jordan lmao I was so disappointed with his story in s6.....
Scariest moment:
OMG in season 2 when Bellamy, Octavia and the guards go into the old parking garage and CAROL OF THE BELLS START PLAYING THAT WAS SO FUCKING CREEPY
Grossest moment:
Ewwww the whole worm thing happening in s5, AND the weird trees growing inside people in s6 xD
Best looking male:
S5 Murphy, hands down. Also s7 Murphy cause he spends half his time shirtless lmao
Best looking female:
Emori! She’s so pretty.
Who you’re crushing on (if any):
I mean everybody is gorgeous but I don’t have a particular fixation haha
Favourite cast moment:
I don’t watch interviews or BTS stuff so I don’t know much, but Richard Harmon wearing hie sister’s costume and wig was really funny ^^
Favourite transportation:
Becca’s rocket
Most beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise):
It’s very obvious symbolism, but I love the last shot of Blood must have blood part 1, with Clarke standing alone in front of the door of Mount Weather.
Also, Octavia forcing the clans into submission in Red Queen, the mini conclave in fron of the doors of the vafeteria. The shots in that scene were really good!
Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you:
Lmaooooooo do you have ten hours? Because that’s how long I can ramblr about the inconsistencies and plotholtes of this show x) Off the top of my head:
- Why does everybody on the Ark speak Enlighs?
- If Becca knew Nightblood could let you live on Earth then why didn’t she distribute it among the space stations?
- Why did Cadogan build the bunker in the middle of the city when he had a prefectly good FOREST??
- If Lexa is the first Commander to unite the clans then what was the role of the Commander before her?
- Why didn’t the Ark send one adult with the 100 (Pyke) to protect and help them?
- How come the Eligius IV prisoners don’t die when they come back to Earth in s5 since they have no nightblood and didn’t adapt through evolution?
- How is it that Spacekru survived with algea alone but Wonkru had to have this huge variety of plants?? WHAT’S THE MAGIC ALGEA MONTY???
- Why did Mount Weather crash the Exodus ship?
- If the ressources on the Ark are so scarce then why would they float people with clothes on them?
- How come Raven could visit Finn in prison but Bellamy couldn’t visit Octavia?? If Octavia was in solitary, why?
...... Okay i’m gonna stop for now lmao but I could write an entire memoir on the inconsistencies of this show lmao
Best promo:
That one:
At what point did you fall in love with this show/book:
I’m thinking Murphy’s Law? The first few episodes were a little too teenage-drama for me but this episode shifted my opinion enough to get me to keep watching ^^

I love it when I can use a quote from the episode as my post title! It makes me feel so professional for some reason. What can I say, it doesn’t take much with me! Also this is a very abrupt way to start a post. I got overexcited.
Hello everyone. For this last episode of Psycho Pass Season 3, I’m going to switch things up a bit, and let Matt handle to introduction. He’s much better at it than I am:
An introduction? Seems like you already got that far without me, but more or less this “final” episode of the third season is something of an odd one–at least tonally–because it feels unlike anything that’s come before and that’s both a good and a bad thing… but I’ll elaborate on that later.
So the last episode was a bit of a mash up between “the Office” type interview narrative and the wrap up of the main arc.
‘The Office’ feels like a very apt comparison, which is a very weird sentence for me to be saying about ‘Psycho Pass’ of all things!
I gotta say, when all is said and done, “Bifrost” had a lot of possibilities in concept but to me ended up shallow in execution. I tend to like a better developed antagonist with more established motivations. I believe this could have helped bring the plot together a bit more. As it is “Bifrost” ends up with a lot of unrealized potential.
I’d agree except I think we’re only at the tip of the proverbial iceberg (pun intended) about this whole Bifrost storyline.
I must say, there was a lot more exposition than I am used to for the final episode. Personally, I don’t mind when a narrative keeps dropping new information all the way to the end. However, with the number of characters and themes that have been presented in the season and just sort of dropped, I really couldn’t connect that well to yet more new elements.
Wanting to have its cake and eat it too? That’s been the ‘Psycho Pass’ way for most of this season. Giving this show the benefit of the doubt when it juggles a dozen different characters and their motivations and how they interweave is part of the fun/frustration of this particular season it seems.
Maybe I’m a heartless person but the enforcer’s truly tragic story about Sybil’s unfairness was interesting intellectually but just sort of there emotionally. I wasn’t crying over it, and I cry over everything.
She has a name, Irina! (Frantically Googles it) Oh right, Mao, I mean her backstory was interesting but it was more or less just another case of Sybil is a jerk to innocent bystanders/victims of traumatic crimes while apathetic perpetrators get away with it. I think what was more interesting/the point of this scene was how it tied into the ‘Foxes’ and that whole part of the narrative.
There’s a point where we see Arata and Kei as children. Kei is very blonde. I don’t know if he dyes his hair to fit in more but that’s my head canon. It was such a nice little touch. Just a bit of visual storytelling that reveals way more about the character than a simple speech would have, in my opinion.
There was a flashback in the previous episode that showed Kei and his wife as (teenagers?) younger having just moved to Japan and Kei had blonde hair in that brief scene too.
They did set up Kei’s personality switch in the past episodes but since they had to fit so much into this one, I feel like it wasn’t given enough time to properly evolve and felt a bit jarring if still logical.
It was pretty jarring, if only because Kei seemed so completely understanding of all of Arata’s quirks, so this should have been a hiccup but ended up a speed bump.
By the midpoint I realized that I’m really enjoying the interview device. It’s a really interesting way to structure an anime and it allows you to revisit all the important characters and create a sort of soft closure. I’m sure some people are going to hate it but I thought it was cool!
I agree, I probably wouldn’t have liked a whole show using this narrative device, but for a ‘season finale’ it helped differentiate itself from the previous episode and give a sort of intimate gravitas to some character’s scenes.
I will say that the scenes with past characters felt like pure fanservice to me. The story really could have been told without involving them at all and from time to time it felt pandering in my opinion.
Sure, but I get the feeling this show wants to tie all of the ‘Psycho Pass’ lore together, past and present characters included–into some kind of elaborate and expansive epic–which is admirable if not just a little bit overambitious.
I must say, I was sort of caught off guard by the ending. It seems like the really interesting story, with Kei caught between a rock and a hard place, is just about to start!
Did you see the post credit scene? I only ask because you seem like the kind of person to turn off after the end credits start and it was kind of an important after credit scene…
The car thing? – yup.
Here’s my personal bottom line for Psycho Pass season 3. Some of you may know that I’m actually a pretty big fan of the first season as well as Mandatory Happiness and I remember both quite well. Which means I know what I liked about them and I couldn’t help looking for those elements in season 3. Namely a strong and interesting antagonist, a small but well developed cast with who I could form an emotional connection that would hit me in the gut when the plot treated them cruelly, amazingly sustained tension and pacing, and finally strong classical sci fi dilemmas to debate over in my head for years to come. I personally didn’t get any of that this season.
There were some great elements but a lot of them just seemed thrown in without deeper thought, like Matt mentioned a few times. The much larger cast meant a lot less time for attachment to any single character and to be honest the pacing was off in my opinion which meant I was sometimes bored.
Like the whole “fake news” thing that got a couple of sentences in this episode? While I agree this whole season felt like a writer desperately trying to wrangle in a bunch of real life social injustices and larger political crisis’ I at least appreciate broadening the narrative scope–even if it felt like they were constantly chasing their own tail.
However, if I take the comparison away, it was a decent show. Not amazing but certainly with its own strengths. To me season 3 left the impression of a rather good Psycho Pass fanfic.
Fanfic seems a bit harsh! Honestly I really enjoyed this series (especially compared to Season 2) and while I don’t think its ambition is ever met by its execution I’m at the very least impressed by the story it’s wanting to tell and thoroughly enjoyed the new characters along with just straight-up enjoying returning to the world of ‘Psycho Pass’. Plus they announced a sequel movie coming sometime next year, so maybe that’ll help coalesce the more disparate parts of this particular part of the overall story!
Matt has issues with fanfics I take it. I actually enjoy them a lot so it was meant as a compliment…. Did you guys enjoy Psycho Pass? Any strong feelings about fanfiction?
Psycho Pass s3 ep8 – Don’t Falter in the End Game I love it when I can use a quote from the episode as my post title! It makes me feel so professional for some reason.
