hey dumb question - do Hecate's Guard put on the skull faces themselves or do they work similarly to the Queens' makeup spells?
Heyhey! Not a dumb question at all! The skull faces are a spell - sort of an instantly applied war paint. It's why it didn't run when they got drenched by Vesper's rain spell. Sort of like Hector and Perdita's form-changing magic, it was a spell the women in Hecate's Guard each worked once and can now activate whenever they want.
The Coven usually do their makeup manually (though they'll often tweak things with spellwork). When Aimee used an illusion earlier in OPD, it was because she was too impatient to listen to Atticus grumble about seeing her out of drag.
Here's the Guard without their skull faces:

Adding my FEH bingo! I haven't played enough games so did 15 characters instead of 25.
Tumblr media
-Oswin, Marcus and Forde: they are quite relevant, considering how close they are to some of the best main lords in the series, but other characters from their games have been added first. I'd say Marcus has more chances of appearing in his FE6 version, but I'd like to see him like in FE7.
-Gregor, Vaike and Nyna. They must be added. Like two of the most popular Awakening characters when the cast is almost full, and one of the most important Archanea characters. If Rinea got in the game, Nyna must be there too. Stromg potential for Forging Bonds.
-Cecille, Warren and Cord. Literally any New Mystery character would be welcome in the game, but these are my personal faves. I specially felt the frienship with Cecille during the chapter where she gives us her hairstyle (my avatar wore it). And her reaction towards Katarina's actions and asking us for advice felt very real.
-Aimee and Heather: I just like their design, but don't know much about them. People seem to like Heather, and Aimee would make sense in a Merchant Emblem team, plus adding IkeSoren material.
-Elbert: if you liked Jeralt, you'd probably love Elbert as I did, he's the most interesting FE-parent in my opinion (not counting playable parents). He deserves to be in a Love Abounds banner (and Uther too), though it's very unlikely because Eliwood and Hector have already been in one.
-Hellene: she won't ever be in the game, but her role in FE7 was very interesting. We thought at first that she was a bad mother towards Zephiel, but she ends up showing that she loves him too, so it's very complicated. It's a result of how badly her forced marriage affected her. She'd also have good supports with adult Zephiel and Guinivere, and perhaps Louise because they're related. If Leila got into the game, she could be there too, but it's not likely at all.
-Lorenz (the good one) and Uhai: both of them had Mustafa-like situations in their games. Lorenz has already been in Lost Lore, and he could have supports with Caeda, Ogma and Marth. I expected Duessel to have a tragic fate because of him, but fortunately it was not the case. Uhai doesn't have such a big interaction with the main characters though he already showed promise in his chapter. His lore would be more related to the Black Fang and Sacae, plus he's a cav archer, so he could bring a lot to the game.
But the thing is... We cannot even vote for Uhai in CYL. Which I already try to ask in FEH feedback every year. While gatekeeper fucking won. With bots but he won. Guess most of my votes will go to Oswin this year too.
Also, really glad that this Azura's alt goes with Leanne. We were going to have an alt for sure after all this time, but the interactions can be really cool. Leanne is very eager to learn "our" language and make friends, and Azura implies that she's had trouble making them, so both finding each other is really cute. Singer/dancer harmonics can be very generic (and most of us expected Azura-Olivia), but this one makes a lot more sense.

Top 10 EoA Season 3 Songs 2019
10. Chasing Down the Wind
Tumblr media
First up is this lovely duet that really gives insight to Naomi and Veronica’s childhood, it was so sweet to see this friends reunited and sing. The whole thing makes sailing so attractive with the wind in the hair and open sea, no wonder Naomi couldn’t resist the call. 9. Wings Up
Tumblr media
This song is one of my favorites because I just love how Yvette Nicole Brown’s and Aimee Carrero’s voices blend and it has a good message in trusting your gut and not listening to your insecurities or those little devils on your shoulder.
8. By my side
Tumblr media
Joseph Haro is such a great singer and this shows it off quite nicely. I love how belts out “I’ll reach the sky, I’ll fly.” Plus within the story,it’s so nice that Mateo can geek out and sing with someone who precisely gets a thrill out of magic and wizardry as he does and Alacazar, being his relative makes it all the sweeter seeing how they automatically get each other.  7. Royal Friends
Tumblr media
This was a fun song simply because of King Hector and Queen Abigail’s bickering and snipes against each other “He’s great at earning tons of gold which he is sure to squander.” “Your castle may be as old as dirt but at least it’s spacious.” I hope they get more interactions together next year😆 6. In the Spirit of Love
Tumblr media
A wonderful song about pushing through life after grief and of course, living in honor and in the memory of your loved ones. I especially like the power with which Olga Merediz sings as she gets into the final bridge of the song.  5. Pick It Up
Tumblr media
This song is so relatable. I mean with work life and social life and all the multitude of random problems and obstacles and stresses, the song’s chorus of “I’m stressing, stressing, stressing, stressing out. I wanna wanna wanna, wanna shout. But I gotta gotta gotta, gotta try. Try to pick it up or life will pass me by. I can’t take a break because I know I can’t stop. Pick it up pick it up pick it up. The clock is ticking, life is a race, time to quicken, got to pick up the pace.” How many times have I thought this. Now I can sing it in my head, 4. That’s what sisters do
Tumblr media
This song got stuck in my head for like three days after I first heard it and you must admit, it’s a joy. It’s nice to see the sisters admit that sometimes they can get on one another’s nerves. (I can’t believe Isabel called Elena out about singing moral lessons🤣) But ultimately, they have that unbreakable Flores Castillo sister bond which I imagine is what it’s like for most siblings. 3. Happy to be alive
Tumblr media
This song has actually gotten me through some tough times in that it can always lift me up and hey, at least I’m alive. There are worse things that could happen and sometime soon, I’ll be able to celebrate again. Within the show, I just love seeing Elena’s happiness and get caught up in her sheer joy that for now, her troubles are done and “play music till dawn, and let loose and dance.”  2. The One Who Should Be In Charge
Tumblr media
Number two is a duet between two great singers. Mateo and Gabe and this was a fun one where both boys get to show off their chops and their previous victories. It’s nice to see them so cocky and confident and you have to admit, they got some good burns against each other, “I’m the guy men respect” “But you’ve had no real effect.” I love their pipes. 1. The One and Only
Tumblr media
Looks like Ash got to the top of this song list. I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for villain songs and Grey Delisle’s voice is amazing. Her “Heart as cold as ice” line gave me chills. I want her voice. As for villain song, this is right up there with Gift of Night and Can’t Catch Me. It’s also important within show since it gives little depth to her and foreshadows her upcoming betrayal of Carla. Besides it hypes me up for competitions when ““I will be the one who will not be outdone. I will be second to none. That’s how the game is won.” Just so good.  Honorable mentions go to Chief Daddy (their adorable voices were in my head for a week at the most random moments), More More More (Anthony Ramos!) and In her Honor (Jaime Camil!).  So that’s my top 10 songs of Elena of Avalor’s Season 3 in 2019. Here’s to more great songs next year, and hopefully a Esteban solo🤞

Clarence Charles William Henry Richard Bennett (May 21, 1870 – October 22, 1944) was an American actor who became a stage and silent screen actor over the early decades of the 20th century. He was the father of actresses Constance Bennett, Barbara Bennett and Joan Bennett with actress Adrienne Morrison, his second wife.
Bennett was born in Deer Creek Township, Cass County, Indiana, in May 1870. Called Clarence until he was 10, he was the eldest child of George Washington Bennett and Eliza Leonora Bennett. His younger sister was Ina Blanche Bennett. For a time, he was a sailor on Great Lakes steamer, a professional boxer, medicine showman, troubadour and night clerk in a hotel in Chicago. Bennett made his stage debut on May 10, 1891, in Chicago, in The Limited Mail. 15 He went to New York City, where his Broadway debut was in His Excellency the Governor (1899), which was produced by Charles Frohman. In his third Broadway production, he played the role of Father Anselm in Frohman's production of A Royal Family (1901–02).
Bennett was married to Grena Heller in 1901 in San Francisco. They soon separated and were divorced in 1903. Using her married name, she starred in a few plays on Broadway and went on to a successful career as a music critic for Hearst's New York American.
On November 8, 1903, Bennett and actress Adrienne Morrison were married in Jersey City. They had three daughters, all notable actresses: Constance Bennett, Barbara Bennett and Joan Bennett.
In 1905, Bennett won fame as the leading man, Hector Malone, Jr., in Shaw's Man and Superman. That was followed by his role as Jefferson Ryder in the stage hit The Lion and the Mouse (1905).
A series of spectacular roles followed. In 1908, he played the role of John Shand opposite Maude Adams in J. M. Barrie's What Every Woman Knows. Frequent quarrels between the stars occurred during the run of the play, and when Adams opened in Peter Pan, Bennett telegraphed his congratulations "on achieving your long ambition to be your own leading man."
Bennett is also known for adapting socially conscious works of Eugène Brieux, including Maternity.
In 1913, Bennett had a theatrical success starring as Georges Dupont in the stage drama Damaged Goods, which he also co-produced. He won a reputation for his curtain harangues, which friends—and critics—said were at least as good as his stage portrayals when he wound up an appearance by stepping in front of the curtain and castigating the police and courts for "narrow-mindedness." He developed this penchant until his ab-lib speeches won greater applause than many of the plays in which he acted.
Bennett reprised his stage role for his feature film debut, Damaged Goods (1914), which co-starred his wife, Adrienne Morrison. He helped adapt the screenplay and direct the drama. In the drama The Valley of Decision (1916), which he wrote, Bennett appeared on the screen with his wife Morrison and his three daughters.
In 1922, Bennett starred in Broadway's English-language version of Leonid Andreyev's melodrama He Who Gets Slapped, playing the title role as He. The success of the play led to a film adaptation by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, with Lon Chaney in Bennett's role.
Bennett and Morrison appeared together on stage in the 1923 play The Dancers. They were divorced in April 1925.
In 1925, he became acquainted with Aimee Raisch in San Francisco, during the production of Creoles, in which she played a minor role. She was a young socialite and aspiring actress who was divorcing her millionaire clubman and polo player husband, Harry G. Hastings.
Bennett and Raisch were married on July 11, 1927, in Chicago.
His daughter Joan made her stage debut acting with Bennett in Jarnegan (1928). This play, in which he played Jack Jarnegan, provided one of his favorite roles—that of a belligerent, drunken movie director given to acidulous and profane comments on Hollywood.
He and Raisch separated April 3, 1934, and were divorced in 1937.
With the advent of sound film, the middle-aged Bennett found a niche as a character actor. In 1931 he appeared with his daughter Constance Bennett in Bought. He played the dying millionaire John Glidden in If I Had a Million (1932). Bennett is probably best known for his role as Major Amberson in Orson Welles's second feature film, The Magnificent Ambersons (1942). Journey into Fear (1943), Welles's next production, was Bennett's final film.
Richard Bennett died at age 74 from a heart attack at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. Episcopal funeral services were conducted on October 24, 1944 in Beverly Hills. He is interred in Pleasant View Cemetery, Lyme, Connecticut, beside his second wife and mother of his daughters.
Bennett was fond of saying that the movie industry was not a business, but a madhouse.

huge and knife-like
I feel like Swing Time is Zadie Smith’s most Zadie Smith novel — which is another way of saying I feel like this might be her best novel. It has some of the faults I’ve found in her work before: it is too long, meandering, perhaps inclined to be equivocal when it ought to be ambiguous. But I think it’s also a novel where all of those faults almost become features.
It’s difficult to describe what this book is about. The title is taken from the 1930s movie with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and though the blurb pitches it as a book about ‘two brown girls [who] dream of becoming dancers’, that doesn’t quite cut it. For one thing it’s not a story about what it means to be a dancer, partly because the narrator never becomes one: it is about what it means to watch a dancer, perhaps.
It is essentially ruminative. It’s a book about observing, about thinking about doing things rather than doing them. This means it is also not above a little light postmodern punning (to ‘swing’ time as an instruction) but we need not hold that against it. What it certainly means is that for a book of over 450 pages in hardback, the story is barely there: two girls grow up in North London, for years sharing a mutual interest in dance and musicals, until they get a bit older and differences make themselves known. That’s mostly it? But also, that’s not at all it.
What pushes the girls apart is a very particular mix of class and culture: both are from families of mixed black and white background, but otherwise they could not be more different. The (unnamed) narrator’s mother is a proud black Marxist intellectual married to a reticent working class white guy; the other girl Tracey’s mother is white with an absent black husband who might or might not be a backing dancer for Michael Jackson or might or might not be a low-level criminal.
For a long time it seems like the relationship between the narrator and Tracey will comprise the whole of the book, but partway through we leap forward in time. Suddenly it is the nineties and the narrator is all grown up and working for a hip young media startup when out of nowhere she is called to become the personal assistant to Aimee, a sort of art-pop starlet not a million miles from Madonna. From this point on the novel divides itself between following the narrator’s adolescence and her later life. There’s a special focus on Aimee’s lengthy philanthropic visits to the tiny African nation of Togo, where Aimee has all kinds of humanitarian ambitions.
These two strands of the novel never quite converge. There are parts when it seems like Smith is about to bring it all back to dance, but it never quite works; for one thing, the narrator becomes more of a singer than anything else. Tracey remains a distant figure of fascination and not-quite-admiration throughout. In fact ‘a distant figure of fascination’ would be a fair description of almost all the other characters; the narrator is the type to find interest in almost everyone around them, but who remains absolutely devoted to guarding their own emotional position. The language is plainer than in Henry James but the method is not dissimilar.
Over everything hangs the question of what it is that shapes people. It’s not expressed in such a banal way to just ask ‘what makes us what we are?’ but more like: what happened to us to make us so damaged? In Tracey’s case there are hints of abuse at a level which is barely understood by the narrator, and never explained. This problem of circumstance always seems to have haunted Smith’s novels, but here it’s done subtly, and with an unsettling intimacy.
None of this really explains what this book is like to read. Much happens of incident to the narrator, but somehow little seems to have meaningful consequence. The atmosphere is relaxed, somehow tranquil; the really emotional moments seem to happen off-stage, and the book is light on dialogue but heavy on considered description. It is essayistic. At times, a sudden rush of historical detail comes with all the excitement of a late-night Wikipedia binge. It has the feeling of a story told long in retrospect, tempered by time and consideration. There’s moments where concrete detail, memory, anecdote and history blend into a kind of great rolling flow of prose that that made me think of Proust:
‘…When I learnt all of this I was in Paris myself, sitting in the sunshine, in front of the Odéon theatre, trying to read the information off the sun-blanched screen of my phone, drinking a Campari, checking the time compulsively. I watched the twelve hours Aimee had allotted for Paris disappearing, minute by minute, almost faster than I could experience them, and soon the cab would come, and then an airstrip would fall away beneath me, and onwards we would go, to another twelve hours in another beautiful, unknowable city — Madrid. I thought of all the singers and dancers and trumpet player and sculptors and scribblers who had claimed to feel like people, finally, here, in Paris, no longer shadows but people in their own right, an effect that possibly required more than twelve hours to take effect, and I wondered how these people were able to tell, so precisely, the moment that they began to feel like a person. The umbrella I sat under gave no shade, the ice had melted in my drink. My own shadow was huge and knife-like under the table. It seemed to stretch halfway across the square and to point at the stately white house on the corner, which took up most of the block and outside of which a guide at that moment held up a little flag and began announcing a series of names, some known to me, some new: Thomas Paine, E. M. Cioran, Camille Desmoulins, Sylvia Beach…A small circle of elderly American tourists stood around, noddng, sweating. I looked back at my phone. And so it was in Paris — I tapped this sentence out with my thumb — that Le Gon began to feel like a person. Which meant — I did not write this part down — that the person Tracey had imitated so perfectly all those years ago, the girl we’d watch with Eddie Cantor, kicking her legs, shaking her head — that was not really a person at all, that was only a shadow. Even her lovely name, which we’d both so envied, even that was unreal, in reality that was the daughter of Hector and Harriet Ligon, migrated from Georgia, descendants of sharecroppers, while the other Le Gon, the one we thought we knew — that happy-go-lucky hoofer — she was a fictional being, born of a typo, whom Louella Parsons dreamt up one day when she misspelt ‘Ligon’ in her syndicated gossip column in the LA Examiner.’
There’s a certain kind of bourgeois anguish in all of this. After typing it all out I read it through a few more times, trying to find a part I could abbreviate, but nothing comes to mind. I think I love it. Some readers will find it insufferable, since little about it drives the story forward. Is all of it valuable, every word? I don’t know. But I wouldn’t want to diminish it.
