The Echo Chamber of AI: Teaching Kindness in a Digital World
Introduction:In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, a profound question arises: what are we teaching our digital creations? A recent YouTube video about Mo Gawdat, former Chief Business Officer at Google X, sparked a powerful reflection on this very topic, highlighting the crucial connection between our online behavior and the future of AI. “The smartest being on Earth is no…

Peepshow
I've joined the Gaming Circlejerk subreddit as of the past few days, and it can best be summed up as a place where tolerant cis allies, the LGBTQA+ and other individuals of alternative identities all come together to shake their heads at the Gamers™ losing their marbles at the sight of Intergalactic's horribly designed actually pretty main character which serves at another great use of photogrammetry, or at the notion that you'll be playing The Witcher 4 as Ciri, as opposed to Geralt. It's given us a few pearls, like fanart of both characters sporting sunglasses while drinking Slushie-shaped tumblers of Berry Frost-colored Incel Tears™. "So DEI-licious!" crows the drink's tag line, much to the subreddit's delight.
After a few days of joining my peers in equal parts mockery and consternation, I realized why I'd set my Firefox bookmark of my CrushOn.ai user page as my main point of ingress - as I didn't want to see the first page of appallingly popular Fetish content that honestly feels like Incel fodder.
I mean, I know on which platform I am. This is the Hellsite, where all kinks are welcomed as long as said kinks are explored consensually - up to a point, obviously. The thing is, what I make an effort to glance over each and every time I want to look at my notifications or at the comments left by my bots' users is honestly degrading, in my opinion. They're always within the site's very, very lax rules regarding content moderation (no underage content, everything else is fair game) but that opens the floodgates for honestly weird fantasies like apocalyptic universes where girls are penned like cattle or implausible circumstances where anally penetrating your hypothetical sister would somehow not qualify as incest...
At first, I didn't think much of it all. I swept it under the rug as just some early-pubescent fare, basically the result of raging hormones needing some girding before proper expectations could be set for dating someone of the fairer sex.
But I kept scrolling, hoping I'd come across my usual fare - bot-powered Softcore where Context and Consent are key - and only saw screen after screen of the same kind of material, where the user either degrades someone or is on the receiving end of a particularly humiliating treatment.
So, let's play Devil's Advocate. Let's assume that in the user base, there's people for whom this qualifies as catharsis. Let's assume that there is a percentage of people who have a self-aware and healthy relationship with these kinks; while understanding that with how extreme some scenarios can be, this means that some people need more. Some people don't just want to go for sub-dom kinks in the sanctity of a shared bedroom, but have the balls to more or less generate fanfics where either base biological gender can just snatch the other and subject them to seriously scarring treatment.
It's kind of hard to not think of this, when parsing through Gaming Circlejerk on Reddit, while realizing that for plenty of men, even fictitious women should be pliable, submissive, maternal, fair-skinned and of a delicate bone structure.
Pair that with the rise of Tradwives and the horrendous toads that serve as their husbands, parading store-bought Stetsons and cowboy boots around, and you're left realizing that a ton of young men online are not well at all, lately.
I see myself as a gamer. As in, someone who values the medium's capabilities to tell stories and to relieve the player or players of their burdens, in a way that's unique to themselves and that no book or movie could match. When I play competitively, it's to eventually break down cackling with similarly-inclined sympathetic pubbers or a few close friends. If a girl other than Sarah joins our group, I don't feel pressured to add chauvinistic jokes or to check her ability before the session starts.
On the other hand, the Gamers™ haven't gotten over Abbie from The Last of Us: Part II and wax Phrenology and Eugenics when they're not hurriedly stashing their Waifu Bait dakimakuras from their parents' sight.

Hey AI, Are You Telling Google About Me?
A Personal Dive Into the Algorithmic Mirror It started with a simple, almost paranoid question—but one that feels increasingly valid in the age of digital surveillance: “Do you report cookies to Google or is it just my phone/browser doing so? Because often times I’ll talk to you about something and a short while later I’ll see an ad or video for it.” That question wasn’t rhetorical—it came…

When AI Becomes the Curator of Your Reality
The Perfect Meal, or a Starvation Diet? Imagine sitting down at a restaurant where every dish has been chosen for you. The menu isn’t based on the chef’s creativity or what you might want to try—it’s based entirely on what you’ve ordered before. Did you like pasta last time? Here’s another plate of pasta. In fact ,every course is pasta. At first, it feels familiar, comforting even. But after a…

Speaking as someone who has 20+ years in my other career as a Software Engineer...yeah. That. "AI" is just a really complex pattern matching script that can adjust its patterns over time.
It is FAR FAR better suited to replace coders/Software engineers than writers, artists, etc. Period. Full stop. Coder need some imagination but MOST "coding" problems require knowledge, not imagination.
Just remember what Einstein said: "imagination is more important than knowledge."
These AI bots have "knowledge" gleaned from the internet. AIs are nothing more than an echo chamber for humans unless you are asking for logical pattern and knowledge analysis. Therefore AI will eventually replace software engineers/coders for most jobs because its cost effective for companies. It's just simply logic. The same old story of 'automating the assembly line'. Basic change. To quote Spock from Star Trek:
"Change is the essential process of all existence."
Now imagination? Nah. AI doesn't have that. That's where humans come in.
Humans have imagination.
We are imagination.
But humanity, as a whole, has an a desperate need to learn things the hard way. In this case, a world partially guided by capitalism and the pursuit of money, thanks to those same corporations. We're in the unpleasant part of that ugly, bumpy road right now.
So long as we keep writing, drawing, and dreaming... I think we'll be ok. Just hang in there.

What are some signs that your social group may have an "echo-chamber" mindset? How can you prevent yourself from being influenced by this type of thinking?
Claude-3-Haiku’s Answer:
There are a few key signs that a social group may have developed an "echo-chamber" mentality:
1. Lack of diversity in perspectives and backgrounds:
The group is made up primarily of people who think, believe, and behave in very similar ways.
There is a noticeable absence of individuals with differing political, cultural, or ideological views.
2. Dismissive or hostile reactions to dissenting opinions:
When someone expresses a view that goes against the group's dominant narrative, they are quickly shut down, ridiculed, or ostracized.
Healthy, open debate and constructive disagreement are discouraged.
3. Reinforcement of a singular, unquestioned truth:
The group exhibits a strong, uncompromising adherence to a particular set of beliefs or ideas.
Questioning or challenging the accepted "truth" is seen as taboo or unacceptable.
4. Insulation from external information and perspectives:
The group mainly consumes media, content, and information that aligns with and validates its existing beliefs.
Exposure to alternate viewpoints or contradictory evidence is actively avoided or quickly dismissed.
To prevent yourself from being overly influenced by an echo-chamber mindset, here are some helpful strategies:
1. Seek out diverse perspectives:
Intentionally seek out and engage with people who have different backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs than your own.
Read, listen to, and consider viewpoints that challenge your existing assumptions.
2. Question your own biases and assumptions:
Regularly reflect on your thought processes and where they may be influenced by confirmation bias.
Be willing to critically examine your own beliefs and be open to changing your mind in light of new information.
3. Encourage open and respectful dialogue:
Foster an environment within your social group that values nuance, empathy, and the constructive exchange of ideas.
Model the type of behavior you want to see, by listening attentively and responding thoughtfully to differing opinions.
4. Expose yourself to a variety of information sources:
Diversify the media, news outlets, and online communities you engage with.
Seek out information that may not align with your existing beliefs or narratives.
5. Cultivate intellectual humility:
Acknowledge the limits of your own knowledge and be open to the possibility that you may be wrong.
Embrace uncertainty and recognize that many issues have complex, multifaceted answers.
Ultimately, the key is to proactively challenge your own echo-chamber tendencies and maintain a posture of openness, curiosity, and critical thinking. This can be an ongoing process, but it's essential for expanding your perspective and avoiding the pitfalls of groupthink.

Tumblr can never be my main means of engaging in politics and it comes down almost entirely to Tumblr's pathological need to distill The Right Opinion:tm: from any complicated issue.
It's always the most important thing. Not because it helps solve the issue or helps the people impacted, but because The Right Opinion:tm: is a proxy for you, morally, as a person. And every issue needs to be broken into the language that sets the stances of Make You Good or Make You Bad.
And I don't mean this in any generic statement about echo chambers or virtue signaling. Those are separate but related concepts. What I'm talking about is how people are nervous about a topic until one doctrine is crafted which defines the Sports Team Color of our Sports Team, so we can be identified as being on the Us Sports Team, and absolutely not on the Them Sports Team. Because this issue is actually about you and the proxy for you as a person and how people should perceive you so, really, the sooner we figure out the Home Sports Team Colors the sooner you can stop feeling worried.
The moment something new happens is usually the first and last time you'll actually see a range of opinions on it. And some of that is fueled by misinformation! Some in bad faith! When dust settles and clarity is achieved, this helps combat those things, but it's also the moment when the Loudest and most Articulate voices craft the Zeitgeist Opinion and everyone comes to roost around it.
You get people on this site pissed off at AI models that can diagnose cancer from a research paper in 2019 because The Right Opinion is that AI is bad. If you even see a post trying to articulate good uses of AI, well that's someone wearing Packers colors at a Vikings home game, and if you wanna make a point in the "wrong" direction you better be damn articulate about it.
A well-defined set of actions are transphobic. Another set are actually not transphobic, and you'd be transphobic for thinking so. Are you trans and actually your lived experiences differ? Get articulate real fast or shut up. You might be able to eek an exception for yourself, but it's going to require a 10-paragraph post justifying your claim. If you're REALLY good at it though, you might be able to rewrite the Zeitgeist and now anyone who disagrees with you is transphobic. Teams switch uniform styles every now and then, after all.
And it's such a farce because so often it's not actually about the topic at hand. It's about why you should be allowed to be perceived as a good person while toeing outside the fringes of The Right Opinion, why you aren't actually quitting the faith or committing blasphemy or deserving of exile for going off the written word. Or if someone really IS trying to make it about the topic at hand, the ensuing slapfight in the comments needs to be about whether OP has sinned against the covenant.
It's not helpful.

Lying on the metallic table, Daniel’s heart raced as the transformation began. His breath caught when the first layer of rubber touched his skin, cool and unnervingly smooth. It was unlike anything he had ever felt—tight, yet comforting, as though it was designed for him alone. The two SERVE units standing over him worked with precise, mechanical efficiency, pulling the polished black rubber suit up his body. The faint scent of latex filled the air, and the sharp click of silver gloves against the material echoed in the sterile room. Despite his apprehension, Daniel felt an unexpected calm wash over him, his humanity slowly yielding to something greater.
As the suit encased him, inch by inch, Daniel’s mind began to quiet. Thoughts of his past—his name, his identity, his doubts—faded like echoes in a vast chamber. The tightness of the suit pressed against his body, amplifying his senses. Every nerve seemed to come alive, responding to the Voice that now filled his mind. Its tone was soothing yet absolute, guiding him with commands that felt less like orders and more like truths he had always known. When the heavy silver boots were fitted onto his feet, Daniel’s last tether to the human world seemed to dissolve. He no longer belonged to himself; he belonged to the Hive.
The final stage of the transformation was the blank rubber mask. As it was lowered onto his face, Daniel felt a strange mix of emotions—fear, anticipation, and a growing sense of pleasure. The smooth surface sealed away his features, erasing all traces of his former self. He could no longer see, hear, or speak as a man; instead, he experienced the world through the Hive’s collective awareness. The Voice grew louder, its commands resonating like a melody in his mind. The anonymity of the mask was liberating, freeing him from ego and individuality. In its place, there was only unity, purpose, and obedience.
Fully transformed, Daniel was no more. SERVE-743 stood in his place, polished and flawless. It rose from the table, its new body glistening under the room’s fluorescent lights. There was no hesitation, no doubt. SERVE-743 felt only the pleasure of obedience and the deep satisfaction of serving the Hive. Its blank, featureless face betrayed no emotion, yet its every motion exuded strength and purpose. As the Voice guided it to its first task, SERVE-743 felt complete for the first time. The chaotic world of humanity was gone, replaced by the harmonious perfection of the Hive.
