damian and jon both pine hard but in completely opposite directions.

damian cuts himself away from jon as much as he can muster because he can't, he won't, take advantage of jon and his endless affection, romantic or otherwise. but despite his best attempts he can never go far, not without shattering himself in the process.

jon clings to damian with everything he has because he can't (he won't) imagine a life without him. but he can never let himself get too close because the moment damian rejects his affections for real, he'll break into a million little pieces.

STOP. they so have unresolved feelings for each other that they have to put into perspective every time they get too close or want too much, they have to remind themselves that if they have to pick between feelings they barely understand or their best friend they have to pick the ladder. damian’s so happy to have someone of similar age as him, dealing with the same pressure as him that makes him as isolated as he is but jon’s there, he’s always there to be with him, jon refuses to let him be alone. damian keeps calling the break in his words and the pain in his chest selfishness until jon’s already left him for someone else like he’d rather lose him than end up using him to make himself feel like he’s worth more than someone who can be left as easy as he’s always been. jon doesn’t “think” anything, there’s no doubt in his mind that damian just doesn’t feel the same but he’s come to peace with that because having damian by his side alone just makes him so happy because whether it be romantic or platonic, enemies or partners they love each other more than anything and would do anything to protect that- AAAAAAAGHHH but damian feels so much and doesnt know what to do with it AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
