I finally finished writing the first chapter of my fic commission.

The stats as of rn:

took four days to write

3.5k words

several bars of chocolate were consumed in the process

my cat sat on my computer a total of 4 times, logging me out 2 of them

i accidentally deleted everything I had written one time and had to start again

I should have it out sometime tomorrow - I have to edit it still - but I'm just SO PROUD of myself. Like, this is my first actual official fic. Even if it turns out to be a hot pile of dog shit, I enjoyed writing this - and I hope you guys will enjoy reading it!

He “awoke” to thundering laughter and a hand slamming against a table

You were sitting against a tree, his head in your lap, and his fellow yaksha were sat around the nearby table

Bosacius is slamming one of his hands against the table as he’s doubled over laughing

Indarias is laughing too, she’s leaning against Bonanus who’s trying not to spill her wine

Menogias is trying to use one of Cloud Retainers many inventions to grill fish with Pervases

It’s when he starts to sit up that you realize he’s awake

He notices your clothes are different, they must have been made by Menogias

Before he can say anything, he’s called up to play his flute

You join the other Yaksha at the table as he starts to play, and as he closes his eyes he sees many others approaching from the distance

Having settled in Inzauma with you, he finds his sleep to be deeper and more restful

This results in him dreaming more, finally able to indulge in the deep sleep required

On this night, he opens his eyes to find you crouched down with a white cat

It’s his friends, though he thinks it’s odd it’s not standing guard of his grave

Then his friend speaks from above him, calling you adorable

He looks up to find him lounging in the tree branches

His friend looks down at him and calls him lucky, asking to be invited to the wedding

Before Kazuha can say anything else, his friend jumps down and challenges you to a sparring match

You eagerly agree, declaring the winner Kazuha’s best friend

He sits back to watch, joined by the cat, with a fond smile

The boy struggles to peel a bulle fruit, and you gently take it from him to help

Niwa elbows him and whispers something about children

first of all damn. like damn. they really did it. those crazy sons of bitches did it. they ended this beloved show in a way that was cathartic, happy, full of tension, and did all the characters justice. my faith in star wars has been restored. i am so happy

It’s perfectly fine to write what you feel comfortable with. While you will have plenty of ideas you want to do, also know that’s completely okay to not write them if it affects you negatively due to your past experiences.

Write with what you’re comfortable doing and never try to push yourself to writing things that make you feel uncomfortable.

When your master had forced you to be his spawn, he had cared for you the way a person cares for a pet. In your room, cage, he gave you everything. Beautiful clothes, any instrument you desire, a steady supply of blood, and his love. You were his latest spawn, his angel of music, a bird to sing for him alone.

The ascension reminds you of the ritual your master used on you binding you and unwillingly marking you as a child of Kanchelsis. A vampiric beast, the ultimate beauty and power. The ascension is similar, lots of blood and sacrifices; and one person who ultimately benefits.

Astarion ascended… You tried to talk him out of it, begged him not to go down a road you could not follow.

But… He did it.

You feared he would change, change from the man who you wrote a ballad for into a monster who would see the world as cattle. And he does. The only thing he needs is you, only you.

There will be no other dark consort, no other beloved to the Vampire Ascendant, his songbird to sing love to him.

If this fic is going to delve into shadow's objectification (and self-objectification🥰) i will be in shambles. I was still not sure but then the chapter name dropped and 😊😈

This is such a cool theme and part of shadow's character that i rarely see explored in fanworks properly. even though we have his whole story in sonic battle revolve around his views on himself and other weapons. Like bro gave a whole ass speech about weapons like himself needing to be destroyed and how their only purpose is obeying and being ordered around by their creator-master-contractor and thought we wouldn't notice. He really has issues. Also having him say all that in front of Sonic and Sonic being jawdropped and trying to comfort him is crazy it's one of their best interactions in canon but its so overlooked😭

If this isn't the case and im just silly then its cool too! then im totally spoiler free and preparing for the plot twists hehe.

I also want to say that your fic is crazy good, it's very gripping and well written. So much thought put into all these scenes and imagery. When it's finished it'll be a joy to reread like im sure there will be new things to notice on second read. You are very talented and big brained thanks for writing this story. Since the characters are aged up in the story, many years after such events like SA2, Shadow 2005, Sonic Battle, Forces, etc. etc., the Shadow in the fic has had a long time to fester on these thoughts. They started on board the ARK due to his status there, and have carried on throughout his life in various ways. He's not a super communicative person, and even in his journal he doesn't write down thoughts like this, but I am indeed trying to reference this aspect of his character in Battle with the fic! I'm glad you see the vision as I do frfrfr <3 He's not as angry about it here since years have gone by, but he still has issues he's never properly dealt with. Sonic is not the only one with baggage... Love that you noticed, it makes me smile!

(also i LOVE her smile!!! you arent anthropomorphizing in the slightest for that - miri often does have very human expressions in a way that's odd for a merfolk, because she effectively got imprinted during her time spent inland... and its politically useful if you smile and match expressions with the people you're trying to work with anyways)

ill also go ahead and answer your questions because i can! very easily clarify on them!

the color: actually, being bright red and pink is actually very common for deep sea animals, due to the way light works at depth! its why i decided miranda was abyssal, because that felt like the most natural way to explain why she's pink, since it's such an uncommon color in nature.

basically, different colors of light have different lengths! red is the shortest wavelength of light, and blue is the longest. water might be clear, but there's a lot of water in the ocean, and the more water you add, the more it filters out light - which is why the bottom of a pool might be dark and shady, but if you hold a little of the water in your hands there's no shade. the ocean is a lot deeper than a pool, and so it gets darker as you go down, but because it's also clear, it doesn't filter out all that light at the same rate.

red, being the shortest wavelength of light, gets filtered out first, so red often gets quickly darker the deeper down you go, until it's completely black! camouflage is dependent on the environment, so their color and brightness has to match the background, but it also depends on the light that's hitting the animal. it's why fawns have dappled spots, or animals might have black stripes, so they can mimic the light of their environment. and when your environment has no red light, well... red's a pretty good color to be!

because of this, a lot of animals in the deep sea can't actually see red either, which is doubly the reason why you might want to be red! think of it like tigers, and how ungulates often can't see their orange, making them look just about the same color as the foliage around them when they're hunting! miranda might stick out on land, but that's just because we aren't seeing her in the environment she's made for, where she blends in with everything else around her as much as a pure black animal.

(it's also why her bioluminescence is blue - blue is the longest wavelength of light, and the one most animals can see at that depth. if she lights up, then she wants to be seen, and she can even alter her silhouette to appear larger or smaller or breaking it up into multiple shapes if she needs to. it's why her tapetum lucidum is blue when light's shone on it, because there is blue light to be seen at depth, it's just very dim!)

(this is also why giant squid are bright red, and why the stoplight loosejaw fish is so special! the latter actually produces its own red light, and can see red light, which means that it has a secret light that won't reveal where it is but will reveal to it where its prey is!)

food: this is something that depends a lot, because there are actually multiple different species of merfolk, which is mostly my fault because i don't always feel like i communicate this the best. they're all slightly different in how they evolved to capture prey, with abyssals in particular being fuckoff huge ambush predators that attack from below, and others being shallower-water hunters or more adapted for smaller, faster prey - but they all evolved from an ancestor with a fairly consistent prey-capture method.

in short, all merfolk are ancestrally evolved to hunt whales and other large prey items, with all the extant species still holding at least a degree of this. primarily, they were ambush predators who were good at getting in close to their prey before a sudden burst of speed. they would work together in close-knit groups (one of the big pressures for their increasing socialization and larger brains, to coordinate such groups) to all mob a single prey item at once, hitting with force to cause sudden trauma, and then using their claws, double-thumbs, back feet, and mouths to hold onto their prey and refuse to be dislodged. they'd repeatedly claw and use their strong bites and massive heads to rip deeply into their prey, causing further massive trauma and shock, and if that failed, bleeding their prey to death.

think of it like the raptor prey restraint model, just further taking advantage of the fact that they were underwater, where no one else has hands that could potentially rip them off. being smaller and somewhat less-optimized for marine life compared to things like sharks and whales and large fish worked for them, because they had a novel adaptation that allowed them to take advantage of things no one else could, and the numbers to make up for it. this is, likewise, why they never lost their hands and fully developed flippers, instead making their limbs as flipper-like as possible to make up for it.

then as time went on and certain populations became separated from each other, they adapted for slightly different niches, but all remain fairly closely related to each other as a genus.

in the modern day, most merfolk don't really "hunt" for all of their meals, at least not in the same way that we might think. don't get me wrong, they still absolutely hunt and it's a larger part of their lives than it is for most humans, but they have options.

mostly, the merfolk theory for their relationship with nature is to invite it in. this is not to say they aren't controlling and pruning it, but they do live underwater, and it's far harder to keep animals out than it is on land, so merfolk accepted it and worked with it. they'll work to promote growth around their buildings and where they live, fostering the growth of sea grass and algae and coral and other sessile animals, encouraging them to set down and grow in these areas, and they'll then let more wild animals move in, further encouraged by these natural sources of food and shelter, on top of merfolk working even further to encourage them in. they serve as a functional cleanup crew for the merfolk in these settlements, being allowed to eat anything that merfolk might drop or go to waste, and even moreso might be purposefully fed at times, or have specific homes for them built. merfolk will keep encouraging them and taking care of them until they become a biorich hotspot, creating unique oasises for wildlife to live alongside merfolk.

however, this isn't just a free-for-all, persay. merfolk will also purposefully prune these populations and control how they form, often removing "problem" animals and encouraging certain behaviors which makes it easier for these populations to live alongside merfolk, not viewing them as a threat, but also not viewing them as an opportunity either. they will directly shape how these areas grow and cultivate them on a physical level, often using them as an easy shortcut to literally grow their settlements and buildings. but they will also harvest from these populations and selectively breed them, until their cities and towns act as massive public gardens full of food to be caught, picked, and eaten at any time

as there are also a lot of (very politically powerful) nomadic groups, they also do this, albeit not always so directly. they'll have specific shoals or "runs" of fish that they will follow behind and take care of, managing as they move through the ocean in accordance with the seasons. this is where the whales still factor in, because the nomadic groups will also take care of the whales, purposefully keeping an eye on their pods and taking care of them and, when the time comes, being choosy and particular in which whale they select at any given time to be hunted, harvested, and eaten.

(there's also the way in which food is distributed and managed throughout the merkingdom, since some food is indeed shipped and moved throughout the different areas, but that's a different story for another time and i've talked enough)

He can absolutely match your energy, although he dosent have as much as you, he loves being around you and having you hang out with shuichi and maki too. About you depression and anxiety, he really hates how your brain gives you such a hard time about everything, he wishes he could just make all the bad thoughts dissappear. He'll always be there to support you, and if you want alone time he'll leave you alone even though he perfers staying by your side.

I JUST FINISHED PLAYING THE EVENT QUEST AND PLEASE THAT ENDING WAS SOOOO CUUUTTEEEEE

The cutscene reminded me too much of the teaser, I was holding my breath in shock and worried it would take a sad turn, but it was soo sweet!!!!

And the picture frame we got, I LOVE IT!!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH, IT WAS SO FUN PLAYING THROUGH THE QUEST

The whole Kaveh being worried Mehrak had a mechanical existential crisis, and then him blaming Alhaitham drove away the cutie like pls lmaooo (on second thought... imagine being half awake on your way to get a coffee and seeing a toolbox float past you like it was nothing LMAO... so many mehrak headcanons swirling in my head like a cup in the microwave)

The number of jokes Cyno dropped, please it was so fun hehe, and I was so surprised to see Sorush, and then Traveler in the outfit in the cutscene like omg we're being robbed, first the flower crown the aranara gave us and then this... why hoyo why...

(Is it obvious I love the Sumeru cast a lot? Hehe, can't help it I guess, I'm too biased towards Sumeru and Fontaine characters...)

AND THEN IT WAS SO SO CUTE AND OURGHHH !! and oh my gosh the picture frame.... genuinely love it so so much (cough i now have a picture frame with haitham beloved and it will be put in a special place in my teapot home cough) but it wouldve been even better with wanderer and layla 🫠

AND YES THE WORRIED MOTHER KAVEH & CURIOUS CHILD MEHRAK INTERACTIONS WERE SO !!! im glad we got to see more of kaveh and his dynamic with mehrak tho !! and him blaming alhaitham was so funny pls 😭 catching strays only to uno reverse them fr <//3 (if that were me on god i would chalk it up to sleep deprivation and pass it off as a hallucination LMAO but knowing mehrak it would literally just float there and smile at whoever was staring at it long enough and then continue what it was doing 😭)

cyno with his jokes.... while paimon didnt appreciate them, I did. and the fact he had them prepared in the back of his mind for our return so he could use them.... sobs hes so precious.... and his lil spark of joy at the end of the quest before taking the photo when he wanted to play genius invokation tcg with everyone and tighnari using collei as an escape, sethos wishing he had a collei to use as an escape and alhaitham and kaveh probably just walking away 😭

There's something about like...medical angst that's just different. I dunno how to put it. Maybe I get edgy sometimes and get the urge to write my own medical angst, but I'm always so nervous about getting it wrong, so I'm definitely delighted to see how you do it. Especially considering your knowledge! I do my best to research and understand, but it's still one of those things that makes me a bit nervous as I don't want to represent anything incorrectly

I don't think that different forms of grief are shown a lot, one of which includes sex, so I'm happy to see a new depiction of grief in a story. Especially coming from you! I admire you a lot for a bunch of reasons ❤️ it always fascinates me to see how the thoughts of other people process and appear on paper (or text), and I get so damn giddy when you post a new update (or in general) because it's, like...there's one of my fav authors! Whenever I think about posting my stories, I get nervous because I'm a shy, praise-whore of a bean, but it's also because I wanna make a good impression on someone who I love and look up to reading my stuff. Like, "this author is so good, I hope they like my writing, too," type of deal. I'm bad at articulating my own feelings BFKFBFKDN I’m so antsy about you reading my fic because I want you to like it aaaaaaa (mildly related, I did a TINY rewrite of the pianist!Satoru fic to make it better, and by tiny I mean that I just went back in with a thesaurus lmao)

I can do it for your writing because it's worth it! Plus, crying can be very cathartic! I very much approve of using writing/reading as an emotional outlet to vent out one's feelings and get that sweet, sweet catharsis. The only part I don't like about crying is how stuffy my nose gets. I'm unable to blow my nose because it plugs my ears hardcore which drives me insane and makes me dizzy, but otherwise it can be so freeing. Even if the heart hurts, I know you have the power to mend the cracks and breaks with lacquer and gold dust

It makes me happy that you consider my heart, by the way ❤️ don't be afraid to write whatever your heart desires, even if it hurts! I know we'll be here for each other through and through to heal our souls

hiiii whiskeyy, im that one person who asked here if i could draw the nico sides almost a year ago and i finally drew 3 of them!!! i hope you dont mind that i also added a few details that weren't in your descriptions of them

aurelio's shirt was looking a little plain so i gave him this ruffly pattern that i saw on a bunch of porcelain dolls and made his jacket white and pink bc thtas a color ppl associate with love

muse i had no idea what to make his outfit so i made him wear roleslaying with roman but rainbow bc gay and i tried to made the end of the staff look like a fountain pen but idk if it worked

and for ricardo i just gave him some pens in his pocket bc he seems to like making charts and stuff so i figured he would have some pens on him (and proceeds to use a random marker anyways)

i also wanted to ask if you could give more description of vigilance cuz i was having some problems with his shirt and jacket, i have no idea what patches to put on the jacket. i was thinking of making it sleeveless so he could wear a t shirt like aurelio but idk if thats what you wanted
