Agatha, floating through Rio's body and smiling: "Well, that was one hell of a kiss. Too bad we can't do it again, you know, the whole ghost thing—"

Rio, holding her dagger, visibly enraged: "OUT OF ALL THE THINGS YOU COULD HAVE DONE TO SPITE ME, YOU TURN INTO A FUCKING GHOST?"

Agatha, proud, cackling: "Oh please, this just means I get to annoy you forever, and see you change when you don't know i'm watching.."

Billy, mouth wide open: "Wait- does this mean we will NEVER get rid of you?"

Agatha: "Pretty much, but I know neither of you are complaining. I mean, I did kind of save your life— multiple times!"

Rio, palming her head: "I hate ghosts."

Agatha, with a smirk, floating into her line of vision: "You know what they say.. a little bit of hate sex never hurt anyone"

what almost made me cry (along with her using the wisdom of the other witches of her coven in the final fight) was that part of the flashback where Agatha told her son that she can do so much stuff (mostly damaging) with her magic, but she cannot "use her purple" to magic a meal for him (warp and create reality out of nothing like Wiccan, and Wanda), she cannot heal him (Jenn's potions and healing knowledge), she cannot protect him (like Alice, a protection witch) and she cannot divine when death will come for him again (like Lilia divined future dangers and many other events)... she always needed her coven! THIS coven that we ended up knowing and loving in these few episodes. she just didn't know it yet. i don't think she ever realised it, at least not til it was too late, in the afterlife. but what sweet full-circle moments these two scenes were 💜

Agatha, is her math mathing? (Spoilers)

So in the final episode Agatha mentions that Billy actually saved a life rather than killing three because she was going to kill the coven before Billy created the road. BUT weren't there only two witches she could have stolen powers from in the coven? Alice and Lillia could have fired at Agatha, but Jen's powers were sealed and Sharon didn't have any powers. ALSO, let's not forget Lillia stopped the witches from firing on Agatha so potentially no one would have died because Agatha's scheme may already have been foiled.

So, does that mean Agatha was going to murder Jen and Sharon (and Billy?) to cover her tracks? OR would only two of the four other coven members have died? Also, what about Tommy? Does saving Tommy negate a death because he granted life?

Let's take Agatha at her word and assume that without the road she would have killed all four other coven members.

Without The Road: 4 (coven) - 4 (coven) = 0 (no coven left)

With The Road: 4 (coven at the start of The Road) - 3 (Sharon, Alice, and LIllia) = 1 (Jen) (+1 alive)

With The Road, Tommy included: 4 (coven at the start of The Road) - 3 (Sharon, Alice, and LIllia) + 1 (Tommy) = 2 (Jen and Tommy) (+2)

Now, let's assume Agatha used her usual methods and only killed two of the coven (draining them).

4 (the coven) - 2 (Alice and Lillia) - 0 (no Tommy) = 2 (Jen and Sharon) (+2)

Lastly, Agatha not killing anyone due to Lillia's interference.

4 (the coven) - 0 (due to Lillia's interference) = 4 (all live)

5 (the coven, including Agatha) - 0 (Lillia's interference) - 1 (the Salem seven killing Agatha because she has no powers) = 4

So, is Billy up by +1 (saving Jen's life)?

Would you say he is up +2 (saving Jen and Tommy).

Agatha only killed by draining, is Billy down by -1 (because Sharon and would also have lived).

Or, is Billy at 0 (Sharon died but Tommy saved)?

I actually cried twice watching the last two episodes of AAA. Once during 8 and once during 9. Wtf is wrong with the show runners? Why do they act so well? I'm literally in emotional pain. Basically, this WILL be affecting me for a while and I will take boops to feel better. The actors were so good and I'm actually really happy where they ended the series. Good job to everyone who worked on it and I applaud those who guessed correctly on what happened in the episodes. Also, Agatha is in fact my blorbo and I'm so happy we got confirmation that she wasn't a bad person, just a good person who did bad things because she thought it was good/she was grieving. I just wish she could heal, and I hope Billy and Tommy can be that for her. Also, good on Jen for just flying away, go be happy girl!

Agatha All Along deep dive: episode 2 part 2

here's another Agatha reflection that I didn't notice yesterday - it's a theme, I tell you

she's essentially doing what she does at the beginning of Wandavision, although with no prep time and no magic for costume changes: a ditzy over the top wife with the made up farway husband

I'd get a couple more candles back there, Lilia. You missed a spot.

But jokes aside, you know what she's doing? She's taking the piss out of agatha. this is Lilia we're talking about, the Seer. her job is literally to See. she knew who and what Agatha was the moment she stepped in, and frankly it's insulting that Agatha would try such cheap tricks on her. this is a little "fuck you agatha" before they get down to business and lilia can tell her to fuck off too

and yes, agatha underestimates lilia from the start, which is the point of lilia's character and the lesson she has to internalize. but the thing is, lilia IS amazing, powerful and wise from the very beginning. this whole scene is Lilia being better, smarter and more powerful than Agatha, she just doesn't have the self-confidence to recognize it

lilia IS in control. she sets the pace of this encounter. agatha is a step behind, which is rare for her

"You've been under the influence of another. Someone you hurt." Wanda. And we go back to Agatha torturing Wanda and what it's doing to her, the guilt she feels.

"They took your agency. For three years." Agency is one of the main themes of this show and something that will touch Lilia up close too.

"It's not the first time your witch kin betrayed you." Not the other way round! Yes, Agatha has betrayed, she has hurt and killed. But we need to acknowledge that she was betrayed by her kin, her coven, her community first.

"But you survive, in a way few do." Agatha is a survivor. She dragged herself out of a hellpit, and she was maimed and turned into something horrible in the process. But she fucking survived.

"In fact, that's why you're here." Lilia knows EXACTLY what Agatha is planning, she knows that she's here to kill and she knows why. She knew from the start.

Lilia jumps for a moment to episode 5 and hears the ghost of Agatha's mom yelling at her. (aw, her chairs are all mismatched.)

Billy is always so polite. and look at Agatha's body language, she's doing the same thing she did when torturing Wanda, kind of hugging herself. both predatory and defensive, because, once again, she is not as comfortable as she seem. she is not being sincere, she is out to manipulate lilia, and she's not happy about it

I live for lilia's rants about the commodification and gentrification of the queer witch community (look at those gorgeous italian plates!)

"when I was chased out of every village I passed through for accurately predicting tragedy? NO, I do NOT. BEAT IT, harkness!" I adore her delivery. and also. ouch. ouch. my sweet lilia. so many years, so much pain

When watching this scene for the first time, you identify with Billy and just sit back and enjoy these two extraordinary witches and actresses working together. the first episodes are high on comedy but they all have a serious, upsetting undertone, and it's especially gratifying to see how both actresses work with voice, face and body language to express what they can't say explicitly. Lilia is an incredibly old, wise, experience witch, but also tired, alone, humiliated. She's been jumping through time and she's really frightened about it. And right now? She's quite literally going against the most dangerous serial killer of witches in known history. She can stand her own against Agatha and then some, but she is not confident enough to see it yet.

A question that reads ironic but is delivered without a hint of irony. Why are you dragging a child into this? You of all people. Why are you putting a literal child in danger?

an ironic answer also delivered with no irony. it's threatening, and it's also protective of Billy

agatha gambles: maybe she can get lilia mad enough later and get blasted anyway. maybe she has other means to steal (a kiss, mayhaps?) And Billy better not hear this, she's not gonna kill him or anything but, you know, keeping her options open. just in case.

lilia DOES NOT need to return to her clairvoyant glory. lilia is one of the most if not the most powerful seer. her isolation is self-imposed. agatha is completely out of her depth here.

case in point: agatha does successfully con jen and alice, but she does NOT con lilia. not even close. she had nothing. lilia was in control of the conversation the whole time, seeing through agatha the whole time, and she was always going to say no.

"Three of Pentacles." collaboration, community, singular voices waiting to harmonize. Lilia REACHES THROUGH TIME and MAKES herself join Agatha. How fucking heartwrenching is that???? Agatha never tricked Lilia into doing anything. Lilia is sitting at the tarot table in her Glinda costume, for the first time fully confident and fully aware in her power, and she just - she grabs herself in the past and says, this is your family. this is your coven. you have chosen it. go and reclaim it. that is why Lilia follows them to the Road. not because Agatha is powerful, but because Lilia is.

and present Lilia is just so scared. she knows this is going to kill her.

If they meant to write Agatha to continuously weaponize Rio’s love for her and Agatha not love Rio at all, I mean they did it really badly. The longing looks and pining from Agatha alone? I mean episode 8 made no sense.

And then trying to turn Rio into the crazy obsessed ex? We never got their backstory so we literally don’t even know their dynamic and where that was coming from. Because from our perspective as the viewers, with no backstory, we can only feel bad for Rio because she was just doing her job and she had done nothing but really love Agatha. She really did give Agatha special treatment and time that was non existent which showed that Rio truly cared for Agatha to the extent that she would break natures rules for her.

I just don’t know we went from an incredibly emotional and intimate scene like “she is my scar” and the entirety of EP1 with Rio’s gentleness with Agatha to whatever we were given in episode 8 and 9? I truly wished writers and showrunners knew how to handle WLW relationships because I have yet to see one done justice and I thought AAA would’ve been the exception.

AAA final thoughts + praise 🙌🏼

Ok now that I’ve had a few days to sit with the finale and let go of my preconceived ideas of what it should be, yeah it really was brilliant. I still don’t Iove ghost Agatha, but I get it. And now I’m really pulling for Wanda to come back so that she can bring Agatha back (this happens in the comics apparently) and we can do a MCU witch movie. Sign Jac Schaeffer IMMEDIATELY, Feige. Lock her down, we all want more of this shit.

As to where the show ranks overall in the MCU, I feel like at this point it has to be #1. Even above WandaVision, and certainly above Loki, as much as I love both of them. This show just does… more. Like I can’t believe how much they packed into these 9 episodes. This is what… a true six hander? Six fully defined characters with fully developed arcs and satisfying journeys? With the possible exception of Agatha and Billy’s journey not being over yet, which doesn’t take away from their arcs and development along the show. (Again, had to let go of my own theories there.) WandaVision at most had 3… Wanda, Vision, and Monica, and I don’t feel like Vision had much of an arc tbh.

And then all the little witchy horror movie references throughout, the incredible seeding of the Billy’s Road reveal, building up and breaking down the coven, Agatha’s incredible complexity as a character and not being able to neatly put her in any category, hero, villain, anti-hero, whatever. You really can’t pin her down and I don’t think I’ve seen that in the MCU ever. I guess the last character like that was sort of Loki, but he had more of a true redemption arc. Agatha just… exists in the gray at all times. You just never know what she’s gonna do. And it’s amazing.

Then there’s the Ballad and truly weaving that throughout the whole show in such a way that it’s instrumental (pun intended) to the plot… who does that? Plus the amazing score that feels just as present throughout. The only comp I can kind of make is Clara’s theme in DW, but the Ballad is way more intentional throughout.

I can’t possibly go into it all but the sheer amount of setup and pay off is incredible. And yet we leave with more mysteries to solve and more questions to ask, which is also incredible!

Not to mention the production design, the practical effects, costumes, makeup — every visual was stunning.

And I’m not even going to get into AgathaRio (and Nicky) and all the tragic complexity there. I get wanting a happy ending but… also what ever made you think this would be as simple as a happy ending? They are a. Capital S. STORY. They’re practically mythological. Who cares about happily ever after when you can have Epic, Fated, Complex Romance that literally transcends this Earth. Like what more do you want?? That is the top echelon of epic romance. Disconnect the “happy ever after” = “good romance” link in your brain, you know? Judge by complexity and emotionality and dynamic range rather than something as simple and boring as do they end up together or not. They’re so wildly interesting and I’m so glad we could get more of them in the future. (Ok I did get into it oops)

And the humor?? I don’t think I even need to say anything. But what comedic excellence from everyone across the board, with Kathryn Hahn leading the charge of course. And to balance that with the drama without undercutting either of them is not easy, but they all did it flawlessly.

I could go on and on but I just hope this show, and Jac, and Kathryn, and everyone involved gets their flowers for this work of art. There’s just so much love and care and intentionality here. It really feels like a standout not just in the MCU but in contemporary TV in general. Easily my top show of 2024, it’s not even a contest. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

you noticed the difference in her eyes like it was bolded in bright red ink. her smile fell, like an angel to descend from heaven. 'this is it' you thought, 'she’ll hate me.' you turned away in shame, your heart dropped. words flooded out, stupid, careless words. "i love you, lilia." 

you couldn't bear to look, you feared the disagreement would show on her face. your body tenses, and you scrunch the bridge of your nose with your fingers. you expect her to tell you to get out, or leave.. but you hear nothing. 

but you feel, oh, you feel. 

you feel her behind you, closer than when you had muttered those stupid, damning words. her fingers gently traced your neck, and you closed your eyes, the yearning in your soul up to its brink of expression. each breath you take is shaky, is heavy. you tilt your head aside, desperate to feel her warmth on your skin forever. 

you open your eyes when you feel her breath on your neck. she must've noticed your body's reaction, because she paused, and remained still. lilia traces her fingers down your body, to your hips. she stops here, her lips close to your ears, as her body presses into your back. 

you lean into her, your head slightly leaning back, at the pure and utter pleasure you feel being so close to her. her lips part, and with such composure, yet so little solidity, she delivers a line that would come to send shivers down your spine. "i have loved you since i saw you the first time, long ago. i am consumed and rattled by you at every waking second.." her hands pull you in, and you hum at the gesture. your eyes are closed, not because you hate this, or don't want to be there, but because the way you long for her in this moment now is too painful for you to bear. a lump forms in your throat when you feel her wet cheek graze your neck. she was in tears, and you needed to console her; but how? how should you console her now? you did not have much time to think. her lips, warm, soft, and gentle, were on your neck. the kiss she blessed your skin with felt like one that existed prior to the world, and forever past the present. it was torture, it was devastation, when she pulled away. it hurt, it was brutal.. so brutal, your lips parted, and you gasped quietly. your hand reached back for her head, and you enveloped your fingers in the curly, silver locks of her hair. you held her head close to yours, as her thumbs rubbed gently upon your hips. her voice broke as she completed her confession, and your heart broke with it; you'd do anything to protect her, to keep her from harm. "i'm a witch, y/n.. how could you ever love a witch?" 

your eyes opened, and you stopped breathing, for just a moment. you were sure you'd heard wrong. with a furrowed brow, and a worrisome expression, you broke away from her touch, from her hold. you turned to her, and your head tilted to the side, as tears began to form in your waterline. the sight of her, so weak, so doubtful of herself, so ashamed.. your heart shattered like a broken mirror. 

her face was lined with streaks of wet. she had cried for this, she suffered for it. she couldn't even look at you, her eyes were avert. 

your hands raced to cup her cheeks, and you gently wipe away her tears. her lips part, in astonishment, followed by her eyes meeting your gaze. finally, you saw those beautiful eyes again. your heart skipped a thousand beats at the sight of those irises. you smile, and your face softens. "lilia.." you whisper, your forehead pressed against hers now, "i've loved you since the sun rose opposite the moon. i've chased you in all of my wildest dreams. i've loved you in every moment and i would not stop because of what you are or are not." at your notation, her lips fold into a smile. she grabs your wrists softly, holding them. once more you spoke, "you are my witch, my little piece of divinity. you are mine, and my heart is yours." you watch as her eyes move from your eyes to your lips, and you wish for nothing but her to kiss you. 

after all these years, of being her "friend", you have never wanted anything more than for her to kiss you. it's like an insatiable hunger you cannot destroy. 

lilia bites her lip, and she grabs your chin with her pointer finger and her thumb. you start to breath heavy, and your heart begins to race. she brings your face to hers, so close that your lips graze against one another’s. you ache for her, you long for her. you need to taste her, to merge your body, your soul, your heart, with hers. you need her to kiss you. 

and she does. her lips mesh with yours in perfect harmony, like the melody of heaven’s sea. your mind is adrift, clouded. you cannot form a thought, you do not desire to form a thought. her unaccompanied hand caresses the small of your back, and you pull her closer with the hands you hold on her face. 

she slips her tongue along your bottom lip, and you moan softly into the kiss. her grip on your chin releases, and she holds your jaw instead. she guides you through the long, heart-felt kisses. her lips control your body, your mind. 

warmth builds between your thighs, and your head is still covered by nothing but a blanket of emptiness. lilia is the first to pull away, her lack of oxygen in her lungs being the culprit. you curse the living necessity of air. 

you yourself breathe heavy, panting almost. lilia’s lipstick is smudged, and you smirk at the notion that you've just kissed this marvel of a woman. she notices your cocky smile, and a single eyebrow lifts. she now wore a smirk herself. 

“you're looking at me like you've just seen me naked, y/n.” you chuckle when she says this. “while i wouldn't be opposed to that, i'm just a little satisfied with the fact that in the midst of kissing me, you forgot about your lipstick.”  

her smirk faded and her lips parted again, she pop looked offended, but you could tell it was just her beautiful sense of sarcasm. 

“fix it for me?” she asked this with a lower tone and a wink, and you felt your core throb at the sound of her voice. she wanted you to kiss her again. 

you ran your tongue across your bottom lip, and you couldn't help your smile. her hands guided your face close, and you pushed a curl behind her ear. she grew desperate, unable to wait. her lips caught yours, and you shut your eyes at the contact. in your head you pictured her eyes, beautiful and brown, like the rock embedded and shaded on the side of a mountain. your grip on her hair tightened as she pushed you back softly, making sure not to break the kiss. her lips were soft, so soft it felt like the comfort a pillow brings in the hour of sleep. you moan as your lower back makes contact with her counter, and your head leans back, which breaks the embrace. 

the wetness between your thighs grows, and you figure your underwear must be utterly ruined. lilia's fingers stroked your hair, and she shook her head slightly, a whisper following shortly. "let me taste you.. every inch of you.." you bite your lip, and hold her gaze, nodding hesitantly; even though you don't feel hesitant on your answer at all. her smirk returns, and her hands descend, down from your hair to your neck. she drags them further down, past your shoulders. she stops at where the unbuttoned cardigan opens, pushing the material off of your arms and body. her warmth intoxicates you when her skin brushes against yours. she plants hot kisses on your upper arms, which are exposed because of the camisole top you wore. 

her hands found the straps to your shirt, and she pulled them down slowly, kissing the empty place they used to cover. you tense, and your eyes shut as your lips purse together while you try to conceal the soft hum of pleasure you make.

Agatha and Rio's relationship was described by a lot of people as toxic, and while I agree it has become toxic since their break up, it doesn't sound like it was toxic while they were together. We have very little (i.e nothing) to go by, but what's your take?

Thanks anon! I'm... inspired to write a proper post about this, I think! But I'll share a few thoughts first.

My (possibly unpopular) take: this ship was probably some level of toxic from the start. Because Agatha Harkness is who she is, and so is Rio Vidal.

I agree we're left with little to go with in terms of the dynamics of their early relationship. The biggest clues we get is from Agatha's coven execution scene in Wandavision and the glimpses of younger Rio in AAA episode 9.

Do I think Agatha was at some point as a child innocent and easy to love? Absolutely. But I also think Agatha Harkness, product of her time period and her mother, grew up very very quickly.

If you look at the execution scene, at 18 years old Agatha already has her defence and survival mechanisms up. Her lies come easily, it's already hard to tell as a viewer how truthful she is at a given moment. We don't know what dark magic she's accused of practising, but she doesn't look the slightest bit bothered killing the seven coven members who aren't her mother.

Was she genuinely afraid and wanted her mother's love? I think so. But it only makes what is happening tragic and sad, given that it's at this point Agatha decides that power was a safer substitute for love.

We don't know how Rio and Agatha met, although a common consensus seems to be "over corpses"—which leads me to think they met after Agatha's first coven killing.

At this point, I don't think you'd call their relationship healthy because Agatha would probably be toxic to any relationship. The fact that it's with literal Death makes it worse because Agatha's already failing at functioning human empathy.

Let's be real here: the healthy, sane thing for Agatha is to stop being a serial killer of the community she actually wants to be a part of, which is the opposite of how this ship starts, and Rio will if anything, encourage it.

And as much as Rio loves or wants Agatha, the non-toxic thing for her is probably not to be in a relationship with a human who lies all the damn time, including to herself. A human, who despite all the power she amasses, will be very human—and who will take and take and take because she can't fill that hole in the heart.

I think that I’ll get some flack for this, but I want to talk about it anyways.

I see a lot of people saying that AAA falls into the classic dead lesbian trope, and, if you look at it simply, one of them dying immediately after a lesbian kiss would fit into that trope.

However, in the bigger scope of things: Agatha isn’t dead. She’s a ghost. While being a ghost technically means being dead, it’s not like Lexa from the 100 or Villanelle from Killing Eve. They exist in a universe where they can never, ever come back.

There’s also an established afterlife (if Agatha doesn’t get her body back like she does in the comics). That afterlife ensures that Agatha will be reunited with Nicholas (and once she finds peace with that, reunited with Rio, as it’s established that she was ready to take Rio back when she thought Teen was her son).

Agatha is also shown to already be able to gain some sort of corporeal presence, meaning physical touch is not out of the question. They’re not doomed to never touch again (and if Agatha actually dies, Rio is shown to hold Nicholas’ hand after he’s a spirit, so, once again, physical touch will be possible).

Jac Schaeffer wanted the kiss to be beautiful and tragic and a representation of where their relationship currently is: tender, sexy, but also incredibly toxic. She didn’t intend for it to be some sort of punishment, especially because they were lovers and partners before the kiss. Once again, going back to Lexa and Villanelle: they were killed off almost immediately after the first kiss/first time having sex. While Agatha and Rio’s “kiss of death” was the first we saw as an audience, it was not their first kiss and most certainly won’t be their last.

While everyone is entitled to their opinions (and if you’re upset at the trope being present at all), I feel like this case doesn’t fit the trope completely when taking in the full picture. Not showing their past is unfortunate, but I do believe that it wasn’t the show-runner’s intention to neglect the couple. They had lots of ideas but were limited to the 9 episodes given. When you listen to the writers and the actors, there’s so much love and thought in their relationship. If you recall the interviews with the writers and actors behind Clexa and Villaneve, there wasn’t much thought, love, or care in the relationship (though I do think that Jodie Comer was deeply invested in Villanelle’s character).

Anyway, those are my two cents! Please don’t take this as an offense to how you feel! I just feel like some people don’t remember/weren’t around when being a lesbian was essentially a punishment.

Agatha gave us a gay kiss, a lesbian kiss, a sapphic coven, a “trans live matters” flag, a “if you want a straight answer, ask a straight lady”, I’m the “queer-ent.”

Plus: the gay kiss is a kiss. They allowed two women to literally make out on television. Tell me you’ve seen such a passionate kiss between two women on TV with such deep history.
