That's a story for another day though.#I might be the only person who finds this punchline funny but I'm commiting to it anyway.#Yes - it is plot convenient timing to have there be a character who happens to have fast transportation when disaster strikes.#It's also something I appreciate writers doing because sometimes you want your scenes to move along.#Cultivators zoom around on swords and it's basically a fast travel system.#I don't think we get a lot of information about how far apart places are-#-except in that one scene about the distance between Lotus Pier and Xuanwu Cave.#What...*is* the speed of sword transportation? I have to imagine it can't be too much faster than a moderate jog.#Or maybe cultivation magic also runs a current to your feet that creates a magnet like effect to the sword.#Okay. Out of this mind pit. I'm changing the topic.#I like to imagine that the real reason A-yuan is there is because he has an incredible sense of smell. And WWX's olfactory senses are weak #A-yuan is like a earthquake detecting dog - but for smoke.#Wait they have dogs that help detect smoke too...#Okay he's like a dog that detects smoke. But for a necromancer's experiments going berserk.#...Did they tell a-yuan about this talisman or has it happened before? Oh no...another mind pit....#EDIT: NO WAY THE CURSE CONTINUES AND I FORGOT TO ADD THE PAGE NAVIGATORS....

i absolutely love the fact that sizhui's life breaks one of the most painful parallels it has with wei wuxian's.

the jiang's (except shijie, because shijie is the best and can never be even slightly mean) always made wwx feel like he owed them just because they took him in and gave him food and shelter.

sizhui was also taken in and raised under lan wangji but he is so clearly loved. his worth and his well-being is so clearly kept above everything else.

like lan wangji stood by wei wuxian's side, breaking the trend of wei wuxian's loved ones leaving his side, he also broke the parallel by raising a kid who knows his worth and that the worth does not lie in how much he can sacrifice himself.

i am such a sucker for found family!

What a little legend.#The crowd comments about LWJ being 'daddy' and WWX being 'the mother' are a little too 'fan-service bait' for me.#So I am personally reimagining it as another layer of 'misinterpretation of a more complex situation' commentary.#I like how the different styles of interacting with children WWX an LWJ exhibit say so much about their own childhoods.#We - human beings in the real world - take two lessons from how we were parented: What we valued and what we wish we had.#LWJ leaning into indulgence is him pushing back against his own childhood of asceticism. It's something he didn't have - so he gives it.#WWX on the other hand has been *so* defined by his drive to indulge. And here he is the restrictor!#It takes a bit more to see what's going on here. The factors are not singular.#but to keep it in theme with LWJ; I'd propose it is partly his way of establishing structure when he did not have it as a child.#Both approches are a way of saying 'I didn't have this and I wish I did.'#With LWJ it's pretty obvious why...but WWX? What is at your core? What is your regret towards a lack of restriction?#Or...What benefit do you think it gives this child to learn the harsh lessons of going without?#Did it make you strong when you were a child? Do you think it is just the nature of the world and we all must learn it?#How we interact with children is such a fascinating topic to delve into our psychology and neuroses.#In a more light hearted turn of topic:#WWX confirmed to be 'person taking the car to the drive through to order one black coffee for himself' on the triangle spectrum.#LWJ is saying 'we have food at home' as he is opening his wallet ready to order for everyone.#(Technically this is comic 213 but yippee! You know what I would have liked to see in the different adaptions of mdzs? Some more of Wei Wuxian and A-Yuan bonding time. I really adore their cute relationship with each other and I would love to see the process of how they got so close!

Because how on earth did this:

“Give him to me.”

But the old woman just kept shaking her head, and the child clung tightly to her neck. Although they were both almost slipping off the horse, there was unconcealable terror in both of their eyes. Wei Wuxian swiftly reached out, picked up the child, and tucked him under his arm.

The old woman was horrified. “A-Yuan! A-Yuan!” she cried.

While the child named A-Yuan was still very young, he already knew that he should be scared. But he didn’t cry—he only vigorously chewed on his finger and snuck glimpses at Wei Wuxian.

Become this:

Wen Yuan didn’t understand what anyone was talking about, but children always call for their loved ones when they are frightened. And so, he sobbed and cried, “Daddy! Daddy! Waaaaaaaaah…”

I'm pretty sure he's calling Wei Wuxian his dad in this scene. He doesn't even know who Lan Wangji is.

And yeah I admit, I'm a sucker for platonic stuff like these. I was obsessed with Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne's bond and now I'm obsessed with Wei Wuxian and A-Yuan. Lucky me.

On a side note, does anyone have any fic recommendations based on these two's cute little relationship? I always see A-Yuan with Lan Wangji in fics, but rarely do I see him with Wei Wuxian.
