Chapter 2: What do we do now?
Part 3. (Final)
“It's true! Just look at this amount of hair!” She says, grabbing the pony tail and pulling some hair to the front “It's excessive, and my head feels heavy with this amount of hair! I feel like I'm carrying a sack!” She takes a moment, and breathes in to add more to her rant “And! I'm sick and tired of people following me everywhere! I just wanna do things without having people following me, or trying to clean me when I can perfectly can do it myself!” The older gentleman roars with laughter, so much so that it made him drop to his side. Chae-won jumps up from her spot to help him, she felt... refreshed, she was so used to keeping her opinions to herself, she felt truly refreshed by being honest.
“Hooo...!” Mr. Ammolite was laughing so much, he had to take a moment “Then, what else would you like to do, hm?” “What else...? I guess I would like to explore this beach, I know we live near a city so I'd like to see it too” She says “And, find rocks to make a rock collection!” “A rock collection?” He asks. “Yeah!” Chae-won says, excited. “Well... it's the first time I've heard of something like “A rock collection” but I used to have weird hobbies too when I was youn' too” He says, finally straightening himself up “But, as ye can see Lass, even if you don't have anything big planned ahead or change your plans as they go, it's okey if you just take it a day at a time, no need to fret about it”.
The gentleman pat's her head softly. “... Even if i'm not the same person as I used to be?” She asks, for both herself and Larimár. “Has anyone ever bee' the same as they “use' to be”?” He says finishing the head patting. Chae-won felt her heart lighter, after talking to Mr.Ammolite she felt her heart went from a piece of lead to a light feather. She truly doesn't know everything right now, but the things she does know can guide her for now. The story of the novel will continue regardless whenever or not Larimár is awake, although that arc of the story will play out differently now that Gael doesn't have a vendetta against the protagonist which mean the man will live for longer, which means she can take it easy for now! But, going with this, means something else for her: Chae-won is no more but that's a different story for Larimár. She knew that, keeping her old identity would be impossible and to even start to explain that to anyone else would be a one way trip to a sanatorium, but the good thing about her coma is that she can play the amnesia card, meaning she can still work the bits of the story she remembers as part of the few memories Larimár still remembers, of course she knows that she won't be tricking anyone and eventually she's gonna have to deal with Larimár's mother, but those are a tomorrow's problem! And the one problem she can solve now is... Become Larimár.
Gosh, that sounds easier said than done but if she wants to live this new life she has to adopt this identity, not to mention she's is now getting used to being called Larimár by everyone around her so that has helped. “... She's over there!” a voice in the distance says. “Looks like yer dad's here to pick ye up” says Mr.Ammolite. The sun was now above the horizon shining a light to everything, from a distance one could see Count Gael in front of a group of the servants, at first he looked tense, but then relaxed when he sees his daughter and Mr.Ammolite. Gael jogs quickly to were they are, copper conch in hand, and she gets up from the sand to greet him, still holding all the rocks she had collected on her skirt, but once he got close, Mr Ammolite was the first one to get a word in. “Look who we have here, is Mr. “It's more likely she'll try to go to the capital” in the flesh!” Says Mr.Ammolite, with sass. Gael looks displeased at being sassed, but keeps his composure. “Thank you, Simbad. For keeping an eye on my child”. “The pleasure is mine, yer lass is a lovely kid” He says, relaxed “She is... She really is” Says Gael, his face softening. Gael turns his head to look at his daughter. “ Larimár” He starts. “ Yes?” Larimár responds, sheepish. “ Are you alright?” He asks, looking at his child “You walked long way...How do you feel?” Larimár thinks about it, and replies with honesty “I feel just a bit tired, more hungry than anything”. Then, she pauses, and breathes in “I just wanted some time for myself”. Gael blinks, processing what Larimár just said. “I mean it! I just wanted some time for myself, lately I've been bombarded by people following me everywhere! I could not either walk, eat or drink, read , or go to the bathroom without having someone shadowing me, it's getting on my nerves!” Larimár says, being honest and less polite than usual “I can do those things on my own, just like I managed to go out here on my own too”.
Gael looks at his daughter, then at his servants then back at her. “I... I must apologize, then. I remembered that when you were younger your mother assigned many servants to look after you... I figured that, you would feel more at home if I did that.” “I don't remember much of that, I barely remember my time living with mom... All I know now, is that I dislike having people doing those things for me when I perfectly can!” She declares then turns to look at the servants “And... I apologize to you guys as well, I was rude and you were just taking care of me, so I'm sorry for acting that way.” The butlers and maids look a bit taken a back at her apology, surprised she would even apologize for that, but perhaps the one who looks more surprised is Gael himself. “I understand... Anything else in your mind?” Gael asks. Larimár thinks for a moment, then smiles playfully “I won't return to the house unless I have a haircut assured before lunch time!”. Although she feels awkward, her joke makes the adults around crack a smile, Mr.Ammonite laughs loudly as the servants try to keep it cool, but Gael had no reason to, and the man cracks a smile. “Normally I don't make deals with escapees of your kind...” Gael says playing with her “...But, I suppose it can be done for the sake of peace”. She smiles, deep down she didn't think he would play along, but now is pleasantly surprised. After a couple of more talks and picking everything up everyone gets ready to go back to the mansion, with Larimár in hand (along with the objects she brought from the home). Right now not a lot of things make sense, choices will have to be made, but right now, she can just focus on being Larimár along with carrying all the rocks she found back to house. “Well, I'll see you later Sinbad” Says Gael, as he walks away. Making the other servants follow him as well. “Yeah, yeah, I'll see ye later at the office” Says Simbad waving his hand “See ya, kid. Now listen to yer dad, alright?” “I will! See ya later Mr.Ammolite!” Says Larimár, waving goobye as she follows the group. For a moment, Sinbad doesn't think much of what she says, processing the words as a goobye, only for then look back at the kid in shock. The other adults didn't turn, probably because none of them noticed, specially because of how casual it was. Simbad felt lucky that only he payed attention to what just happen but also felt confused. Any hada in the kingdom of Ámfora would feel this way after all, how come a little kid who just met him knew his true name?. “Well, well, well, I guess only his kid coul' be surprise me this much...” Simbad thought to himself. “I guess now I have something interestin' to report later today.”
End of chapter 2. (Part 1 and 2) [The next chapters will be posted the 13th and the 27th of February]

I love it when women hate men. I love it when women are allowed to vent to each other about how horrible and creepy men are. I love it when women form friendships with and prioritize each other over relationships with men(whether they're attracted to them or not). I love it when women put men dni in their bios and on their nude photos and on posts on their blogs. I love it when women refuse to mollycoddle and accommodate entitled male feelings with "but this doesn't mean I hate all men, I know a few men who are great, I love my father/sons/brothers/uncles/male cousins/guy friends" I love it when women complain about men WITHOUT "not all men" being a disclaimer. I love it when women avoid socializing with/refuse to be around/befriend/get close to men because they know men can't be trusted. I love it when women make "kill all men" jokes. I love it when women offer absolutely no concern or care for men's feelings and if their misandry offends men whatsoever because why should we, men are the oppressor class who have raped and killed and abused us and kept us as subjugated as second-class citizens for millennia, they regularly mistreat us and the women in their own marginalized communities still every single day and make this world so much harder and more awful for us to be in, and if we choose to hate them and not spare them any sympathy then so be it, and I don't just mean "men as a class" either, you can be a woman who doesn't want to have anything to do with any man on an individual basis and completely cuts off men from her personal life too and ykw I will love and fucking support you in that because men deserve absolutely NOTHING from us. If they're so tough and strong then they can handle it just like they can handle being lonely. If you are a woman who hates men, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A LESBIAN AND/OR A TRANS WOMAN, then just know that I love you. I love you, I support you, and you are safe here.
#was going to make a post about how much i hate that women aren't allowed to hate their oppressors but i decided to spin it into something#positive instead#this is supposed to be the feminist site that makes reddit mgtow piss their baby diapers so let's go back to despising men and not coddling#their feelings and let's dye our hair blue while we're at it#i am so tired of this new wave of guilt-tripping and gaslighting women who hate men and don't trust or want to be around them#i hate how we're made into villainesses or the problematic ones for not valuing them in our lives or for wanting to guard ourselves or be#safe from our oppressors#and i'm tired of people who don't know the first thing about feminism being like 'BUT THAT'S TERF RHETORIC WHAT ABOUT X MINORITY MEN'#guess what women can also be x minority that you're trying to protect the men of and we get to hate men too#trans women are included when i say women btw and trans men are included when i say men#if anyone has the right to hate men more than anybody else it's trans women esp trans lesbians because they put up with so much shit#from men that even cis women do not and they especially know how vile men are behind closed doors#so#terfs fuck off#radfems fuck off#and if anybody tries to make this post more appeasing to men or 'not all men's this post you are getting blocked and hit with a hammer#feminism#misogyny#sexism#patriarchy#tw men#tw rape#tw abuse#misandry#terfs dni#radfems dni#feminists need to go back to being scary and unpalatable for men none of this 'but some of them are good!' bullshit#men are entitled to nothing from us#and if you try to prove me wrong then you are just proving my point if you have nothing good to say then simply keep scrolling#ok? ok.

ive mentioned before my like. fascination and incomprehensible attachment to mysterious ambiguously brown man characters in schlocky fantasy romance media marketed towards women and a lot of it is from like, a like. nearly anthropological standpoint as someone heavily interested in orientalism in narrative media from a visual culture and art historical point of view and a part of it is also from being mixed race and ambiguous IRL LOL BUT there is one other angle i havent really touched on thats on my mind a lot. you know that bit we all go through where someone reads something like mediocre and it sticks in their mind more than something well written? the "I COULD FIX THISSSS" curse..... im like this with ambiguously brown characters. holds loosely (LOOSELY) south asian coded love interest from some romance comic #8997485344534984875943 tenderly in my hands..... my brother i know you weren't written with this depth but i know the truth. i know about your complexities as you navigate this fantasy europe as a racialized man. i know your truth
#sorry im reading another villainess manhwa. its pretty good - villainess's stationary store or whatever the full name is#like the kids are adorable the main character is hilarious and its a fun comic. the comedy in it in general is some of the best#ive seen in a long strip comic for a while especially with how they play with the format#the characters are all great. but i am. of course. specifically obsessed with isaac#main love interest who doesnt even show up meet up with the mc for the first third.... talk about a slow burn#but i love him he is a normal man with something slightly wrong with him. black coffee with a single blueberry shot type of guy#BUT also his design is pretty south asian coded which is a welcome surprise in general but like. you know me. sees one cartoon brown guy#south asian brother??? west asian friend? southest asian bestie??? north african pal?? maybe even carribean family?????#(in the tone of new shoes? are those puppies new?) brown king? brown king? is that a brown king?#SURPRISINGLY they did actually point out how like. much he stands out in the cast like once or twice#but you know ive already grabbed him and put way more layers on him than he actually has. like unconciously LOL#kids loving him vs societal views of him... his success as like the Biggest Wizard vs him as a very visible minority#only in my minds eye as i read. but thats okay. sometimes thats what happens when you read enough pulpy genre fiction as i do <3

Hello Coral~~💖💖✨✨ Congrats on your 2.7k Milestone 💐🎂✨ Like many others, I love your villainess au and happy that many people is supporting it ✨✨ For the event request, I have some brain rots about Sebek Silver Malleus being in a friendly culture (maybe theyre visiting Yuu's hometown and its really welcoming like the people from Kalim's Hometown)!! they refer to them as like their family, gifts them foods the very moment they visited, and not bothered that theyre faes since they know theyre just creatures who protects nature~ i think its a nice culture shock for them considering how secluded and proper briar valley is ✨

feat: Sebek ❋ Silver ❋ Malleus genre: fluff, note: no pronouns were used for reader, established relationships, set before Book 7 (mostly because I haven’t finished it yet),
A lot of the scenarios are inspired and modeled after my experiences growing up, which is very Southeast Asia-coded. So, I apologise if this is not actually how you envision. Hope you still enjoy, though.

You’d be absolutely evil if you didn’t even try to warn your uptight boyfriend. I’d love you for that
Sebek has finally found his match as his own voice gets drowned out by the boisterous market vendors and customers, but he’s more surprised by the forward way everyone seems to address each other.
“Sir, it’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m-”
“Sebek, he’s not really my uncle. We call everyone that.”
You would have to keep Sebek on tight hold because he’s a gullible green bean. The freshman burns in embarrassment at every “handsome boy” or “strong guy” comment calling out for his attention. He won’t lie, his ego is inflated quite a bit but it’s still strange to hear someone other than you call him that.
On the other hand, he’s not too sure how to feel when vendors of all ages were calling out to you the same way. You may be used to it but Sebek isn’t, especially if he’s not used to calling you beautiful or cute himself yet.
But, he could take this as a challenge to improve himself. For every compliment they give, he’ll give you tenfold. This he swears!
To your luck, it seems that the market the two of you were visiting was hosting a mini concert as music and lights filled a well-known open space near the market.
Visitors and locals young and old surrounded the space, either resting while eating their confections or grooving to the catchy tune of the music blasting through the speakers.
Then, a particularly famous song began to play, and Sebek flinched as the crowd suddenly burst in excited cheers and laughter, you included. Many women and men jumped to their feet, with some confidently running to the center of the space. You jumped to your feet as they did, but you chose to stand close to your confused boyfriend.
Sebek’s expression was a comedic masterpiece as he watched you and many others start this synchronized sequence of silly movement, identical to the minor beat. Those who didn’t join were still clapping in unison while joyously laughing.
What sort of local ritual was this?
The synchronous dance was short lived, and soon people were divided into those who resumed their previous activity or continued swaying to the melody.
You fell into the latter category, even reaching to Sebek hoping to persuade him to join you.
Sebek was shocked and a little offended. He was a man of great honor and pride. He’d rather be caught dead than to devolve himself to this undignified manner of dance, if you could even call it so. No, he would never stoop so low, even if the string lights gave off this tempting glow around you, your soft hand still reaching out to him while you looked at him so lovingly…
Well, the knight-in-training thought he could allow such exceptions once in a while, especially when you smiled so beautifully when he joined you on the dance floor.
Don’t let Sebek know, but he became sort of a local online sensation as someone slyly took a video of him smiling so softly at you after putting on such a grumpy persona.
Every reshare of this video was always paired with the caption, “Scary man turns into puppy for his lover”
See, you can’t tell if your community is being especially friendly, or maybe it’s just that the beautiful young man next to you is just too irresistible to ignore.
All the chatty aunties were cooing over Silver and even the laid-back uncles sitting around were praising the cut of Silver’s muscular figure.
But, you won’t say anything because you just wanted Silver to smile and bask in the well-deserved praises.
“The locals here are quite friendly to strangers like me, even offering small treats.”
“Mhm, they sure are.”
Silver is amazed by the seamless blend of close bonds and community from what he sees. Customers casually chatting with workers as children run around without worries in this homely environment.
In comparison to them, Silver felt a little inadequate as he couldn’t express himself as openly as the locals do so easily.
But maybe because they’re so open with everyone, he feels this sense of safety to try.
“So you’re not from around here, are you?” The kind woman asked the silver-haired man as her fingers deftly package and wrap some snacks you two picked out to share with others back in NRC.
“No, I’m actually from Briar Valley.”
“Hmm, that’s the fae kingdom, right?” The woman’s curiosity peaked. “Are you fae, then? I couldn’t tell.”
“Well no, I’m human. I was adopted by my father who’s from Briar Valley.”
“Just him? No one else?” The store owner asked without looking at Silver once, instead moving back and forth to get things done behind the counter, but her attention was still locked on him.
“There were a few others I grew up with, but my father was the one who raised me”
It was only then when the busy woman slowed down a smidge, pausing for a moment before untying the bag that held your snacks. You watched her tossed a few more small packets of snacks near her counter.
“These are very popular, share them with your father.” She looked sternly into your boyfriend’s iridescent eyes, the first time in a while since you’ve been in the store. “Make sure to visit him, okay?”
Silver wanted to protest, to correct the misunderstanding. The snacks the two of you picked out already included some for Lilia and he couldn’t possibly ask for more without paying.
It was up to you to intervene. “Just give up, Silver. You can’t change a woman’s mind.”
The store owner nodded. “Listen to the smart one. Just take it, I insist.”
With a sliver of guilt but a lot of warmth, Silver eventually accepted the kind woman’s offering before leaving the establishment.
What Silver didn’t see however, was you sneaking a few snacks and a drink onto the counter with adequate fare tucked underneath. You shared a look with the store owner before leaving, playfully staring her down to not to refuse your offering.
The store owner let out a laugh, thinking what a cute couple you were.

Regardless of wherever he goes, Malleus sticks out like a sore thumb, a very intimidating sore thumb.
Eyes naturally glance at him with curiosity throughout the market, amazed by the regal figure walking around, like a celebrity strolling around the local areas.
If your hometown speaks another language, some of the market vendors would tell you not-so sneakily how attractive your lover was while Malleus was none the wiser.
But, as curious as the humans were, they were quick to accept him as is, which shocked the fair-skinned fae. It wasn’t as though he was being avoided or judged, but rather the community took him and his inhuman appearance as typical. Undaunted by anything, the nosy sellers would joke and compliment him like any other walking around here.
“What a handsome fae you are, you can be a model!” “And tall! He can reach the top of our tent, haha!”
Malleus can tell his horns and ears are eye-catching to say the least, but everyone was quick to grow accustomed to his features, even warning him to watch his head should he bump into anything in this crowded alley.
“Are those with my features a common prevalence in your homeland?”
“No, you’re a rarity around here. But that doesn't mean you don’t belong here any less.”
“Ah, so this is how a beautiful soul is cultivated,” Malleus thought, gazing softly as you and a kind merchant searched around the store for a shirt that could fit the future king.
The day was setting, and you and Malleus decided to rest at a popular park that was famous for its view of the town. You weren’t alone as both locals and visitors filled the space, either resting or making memories with their friends and families.
Then, you heard a whisper from a timid voice behind the two of you.
“Um, mister.” You turned around to see some local children looking curiously at Malleus.
“Are you fae?” The eldest boy spoke first, nervously clutching his jacket.
When Malleus calmly responded in affirmation, the other children lit up with excited smiles.
“You’re super tall, taller than my dad!” Another child exclaimed, “Are all fae tall like you?”
Malleus smirked rather haughtily. “Very few others, fae or otherwise, stand on par to myself.”
”I’m the tallest in my class!” The eldest boy blurted out, even puffing his chest and slightly leaning on his toes. “It’s because I drink my milk everyday. Do you drink milk?”
You abruptly nudged your lover before intervening. “Yes he does, which is why you need to drink milk and other healthy food to keep growing.”
A little girl, hidden behind the first two children, spoke out. “How long is your hair? My hair is really long too!”
She pushed her long braided hair to the front, comparing her neatly combed hair to Malleus’s direction.
“Your hair is quite long indeed, perhaps matching mine in length at first glance.” Malleus commented back, amused by the children’s competitive nature.
After sharing all of their thoughts, the curious children finally left when their guardians called them back, waving at the two of you before running out of sight. Now free, Malleus looked to you with curiosity of his own gleaming in his striking green eyes.
“The offspring of this land are inquisitive as they are fearless,” Malleus smiled in your direction. “I wonder if all children hailed from here shared these traits.”
Were you like them as a child?
You picked up on his unspoken question and replied with a cheeky expression. “Wouldn’t you like to know~”
Would he? Would he like to know if you were the type to run around so carefree and see the world with such interest and curiosity. If your future children would be like those endearing little ones just now…
Yes, he would.

pick your poison babe
i'm poison either way
When you met Choi Seungcheol for the very first time, you were 13 years old.
One sunny afternoon, while making your way to your grandpa’s study with your homework clutched to your chest, you were graced by the sight of him. He was stepping out of the room after meeting with your grandpa when the sound of your footsteps prompted him to stop and regard you with curiosity, head tilted to a side. He was only 18 back then, full of dreams and passion as he prepared to move abroad to finish his degree before returning home to inherit his father’s company.
“Hey,” he had said, unsurely. With a squeak, you ran away and hid in a nearby room, too shy to talk with a stranger. You remember him standing there for a moment, confused by your behaviour before slowly walking away with a shake of his head.
The second time you saw Seungcheol, you were 18 years old, five years after your first meeting. He had come back after finishing his degree and was preparing to take over his father's billion-dollar company. In celebration, Mr Choi threw a party inviting all his family and friends and since your grandfather was one of his oldest business partners, it was natural for you to be invited with him.
It was that fateful winter evening when you fell in love with Seungcheol for the very first time.
In all 18 years of your existence, dating never interested you. You preferred to keep to yourself, read and spend time with your grandpa. You had realized early on that observing and judging people was much more interesting than talking to them. Especially because no one could ever resist asking you about the big scar on your left cheek. It was irritating; the prodding gaze of strangers who stared at your scar with wonder, treating you like a science experiment. So it wasn’t surprising for you to grow up without having many friends. You didn’t need them anyway, you had your grandpa.
Life was mostly uneventful and you did not mind having it that way. But then, at 18, when you caught a glimpse of Seungcheol and the man he had become, you realized, your life would never be the same. The sight of him had thrown your heart into a frenzy, one you could never recover from.
Gone was the lean young boy with bright eyes and messy hair. In his place was a calm but serious man who knew how to command a room with just his presence. Everything about him; the way he moved, the way he talked, the way he brushed his hand through his slick black hair, the way his suit hugged his muscular frame made your stomach dip and heart throb.
That evening, your sole focus was him, following him around the party with your eager eyes but too shy to go and talk to him. You remember uttering one word to him when he was talking to your grandfather and his eyes landed on you.
“Congratulations.” You had said, giving him your best smile while your stomach was tied up in knots.
He gave you a small smile and a nod before looking away but that little interaction was enough for you to fall head first for him and fill your long nights with dreams.
“He has grown up to be a fine man, no? Choi Corporation is in very good hands.” Your grandpa had commented.
You had to agree.
Seungcheol was a fine man, the finest you had ever seen. So fine that the thoughts of him kept you awake at night, the memory of his smile filled your stomach with butterflies and made you want to write poetry about.
You had decided right then and there that you would make friends with him, grow close to him. It would have been easy to do since his father and your grandpa were already close.
Your plan began with you scouring the net, trying to find every possible information about him and the things that you could not find, you would discreetly ask your grandpa. You were going to set your plan in motion by visiting the golf ring where Seungcheol regularly golfed on weekends. On a Friday night in early February, as you were laying your golf outfit out for the next day with childish excitement, your grandpa came into your room to give you the worst news of your life.
Seungcheol was getting engaged that Sunday.
To the only daughter of Lee Media, the country's biggest media company. The holy union was agreed upon by the elders of the family since it was beneficial for both parties and most importantly, the heirs had no objection. They grew up in each other's presence anyway.
Even worse, after the engagement, Seungcheol was moving to Hong Kong to better oversee the company business and when he was to return, the marriage would take place.
That news would have made any normal person give up. It would have brought them back to their senses and forced them to focus on their own life.
You, however, did not.
Overnight, you were a changed woman.
You attended his engagement party with a smile on your face and watched as he put the ring on that disgustingly beautiful woman’s finger. That day too you spoke to him briefly, congratulating him on his engagement and wishing him luck for his work abroad. With his fiancee, Sumin Lee, you talked plenty; initiating the conversation by introducing yourself and carrying it on by complimenting her dress and her ring. You did not miss the way her gaze would repeatedly fall on your scar, judgment and questions flashing in her eyes. Something was unsettling about that woman, something in the look of her eyes that made you want to scream and warn Seungcheol to stay away.
You could not do that, of course.
Instead, you said goodbye to the man you loved and let him leave.
Your game began after that.
You played the first move by getting his number from your grandpa and texting him once he had left.
Hi, it's ____. Hope you have reached safely.
That was the first text you had sent him.
When he replied, you struck up a conversation, asking for recommendations for golf sticks since you wanted to get into golfing. The rest was surprisingly easy. You bonded with him over golf even though in reality you could not give two shits about that boring sport. The conversations flowed naturally and you always made sure it keep things casual, asking for recommendations and advice on anything and everything as if he were a brother to you.
And like that, four years has gone by.
You started living a life completely different from the one you had envisioned for yourself.
Once upon a time, you wanted to be a librarian. You had no interest in overtaking your grandpa’s business and he had accepted that. In the last few years, however, your previous notion changed. You realized that you needed to take over the company and actually get on the field to continue playing the game you were enjoying. Your grandpa was dubious at first but for the last two years, you have been in the position of the vice president of Kim Associations and you must admit, you have been performing beyond what you thought you were capable of. Your grandpa, who has been extremely pleased with your work, resigned a little while ago and assured you of your capabilities to take over.
And finally, today is the day.
Your inauguration ceremony which will officially mark the beginning of your journey as the president of Kim Associations.
“Are you ready, madam? The guests are all here.” Your assistant’s voice snaps you out of your thoughts. You blink, refocusing your attention on your reflection in the mirror. Combing your fingers through the strands of your hair that have been perfectly styled, you speak, “I’ll be out in a second, Yuna.”
“Yes, madam.” The door shuts quietly behind her.
Sucking in a deep breath, you stand up, carefully scanning your outfit in the mirror one last time. Pleased with how the white blazer and pants look on you, you strut out of the dressing room and into the hallway leading to the grand room where the guests await.
As soon as you can get over with the boring ceremony, you can move on to the bigger tasks. Seungcheol is supposed to return home this month which means your time is running out. As soon as he is here, the preparations for marriage will start and you cannot let that happen. You must act fast.
With the ending of your acceptance speech, you step down from the podium, slightly woozy because of the continuous camera flashes. Yuna holds out a bottle of water for you to take a quick sip. As you screw the lid closed, your eyes wander over the room before stopping.
A small gasp parts your lips.
On the other side of the hall, you see Seungcheol talking to your grandpa.
As if sensing your stare he turns his head and his gaze matches yours. A beautiful smile sits on his lips, his eyes shining as he starts heading towards you with a large bouquet of flowers resting on his arm.
Time slows down, and everything around you fades into background noise. Breathlessly, you watch him, soaking in every minuscule detail and committing them to your memory. And lord, is he a vision. Dressed in a three piece grey suit, his freshly styled hair and his blinding smile, you briefly wonder if he is a fragment of your imagination.
You blink a couple of times to snap yourself back to reality before schooling your expression as he stands in front of you.
“Congratulations, President Kim.” He grins, cheeky and proud as he offers you the comically large bouquet.
A huge smile kisses your lips as you accept the flowers. “Seungcheol, I am very pleasantly surprised.”
“That was the intention.” He laughs and it is then that you notice a figure standing right behind him.
It is Sumin, of course, standing next to him with a plastic smile as she congratulates you.
Your mood sours but you don’t let it show.
“You were supposed to return later this month, no?” You peer inquisitively at your love.
“What can I say, business finished early.” He shrugs.
“Which is good because we have a wedding to plan, no honey?” Sumin slings her arms through his as she throws a flirty smile at him. His hand rests on hers and your blood boils.
“Of course.” Your smile is so fake your cheeks hurt. “It was lovely to see you, Seungcheol. I have some investors waiting over there for me. We will catch up later, okay?”
“Of course. Go ahead.”
You push past Sumin, immediately dropping the fake smile as your fingers grip the stem of the flowers in a chokehold.
-
One week passes by and you fail to make time to catch up with Seungcheol— one-on-one at least. As the new president, piles of work awaited you every day at the office that you had to get through. With the very little free time you had after work, you would text Seungcheol only to get a reply that he was busy preparing for the wedding or visiting his in-laws.
Tonight you were invited to dinner by Seungcheol’s father as he held a small dinner for his close friends and family. You went with the hopes of seeing Seungcheol which were quickly crushed after your arrival. Turns out he and Sumin were out of town for whatever reason and would be running late. The sight of Sumin’s family making themselves comfortable and their boisterous attitude prompted you to leave as soon as dinner was over.
Another bad day has come to an end.
You lie in your bed, wide awake even though it is well past midnight. The work that waits for you in the day ahead along with another myriad of meetings overwhelms you. Your grandpa has not been feeling well so you need to visit him. Plus, there is this tiny issue of Seungcheol getting married to Sumin. You are not sure how you should approach this issue. Creating a scandal is always a good idea but that would end up harming the man you love. Of course, there is always another option…
One thought leads to another which leads you to sleep. At the crack of dawn, you are jolted out of your sleep by what you first think is your alarm. Then you fathom it is your phone ringing.
The caller is the caretaker who lives with your grandpa.
With your heart suddenly beating like you just ran a marathon, you pick up the phone.
“Miss Kim, your grandfather had a stroke. We are on the way to the hospital.”
The next few hours are a blur.
You have long lost your sense of time. After what feels like ages since you reached the hospital, you find yourself, along with some relatives, sitting in a sterile waiting room, the walls bleak and grey.
The clock on the wall reads ten in the morning. No sunlight peeks through, however, because there are no windows where you sit.
“You should have something to eat,” your secretary quietly suggests standing next to you. Her words reach your ears but you fail to register them, staring blankly at the floor.
Life without your grandpa sounds weird. He is the only person on this planet you love and trust unconditionally, the only person who understands and loves you the same way you love him.
He cannot just die, can he?
A while later, you don’t know how long, the doctor comes to give a briefing about the patient's health. He says a lot of words which can be summarized as this: your grandfather had a stroke that caused him to fall into a sleep-like state. When he will wake up from this coma is unknown, it could be days, it could be months. For now, his condition is stable and you can only pray it stays the same.
And just like that, there is a sudden shift in your life as you fall into a new routine. Working from dawn to dusk and then spending the evenings next to your comatose grandpa, holding his hand and hoping he would wake up. People come to visit, including the Chois. On the first day that Seungcheol visited, you shed a tear in his embrace before returning to your hollow, expressionless self. Soon, days blend into weeks which transform into a month.
You start becoming more accepting of your reality. A part of you wonders if this is how your grandpa is preparing you to live a life without him. He has always been in your life as a protective shadow since he adopted you at the age of ten. A car crash took your parents away from you when you were very young, so you never missed them. Your memories of your early childhood are next to non existent but after being adopted, every day was something worth remembering. A kind stranger welcomed you with open arms and legally became your grandfather. He was so much more than just a grandfather, though. He was akin to your parents, a best friend, a guardian.
How does one cope with losing such a precious person?
Life sure will not be fun without him judging from the rumours that you hear going around your company. The way the board of directors and shareholders keep hinting that you may be an unfit candidate to rule over the company in the absence of an experienced man like your grandpa.
Why? Because you are young and unmarried.
How sensible that sounds.
While you may not be getting married any time soon, Seungcheol definitely is. His wedding with Sumin is set in exactly three months which does not leave you with much time on your hands. Your grandpa’s collapse was a momentary distraction but at the same time, it was a learning experience. People started showing their true colours and it helped you come to a decision.
You will play the long game and you will hit two birds with one stone.

The villa where Sumin’s party is taking place is situated a little outside the city.
She has recently launched her own clothing line with the money given by her in-laws as a pre-wedding gift but that part is a secret to the public.
It is almost dinner time when you arrive and the party is in full swing with the music blasting and people covering almost every place of the villa. The place is mainly littered with influencers and models and you recognize a few familiar faces who approach you first to say hi.
You see Sumin skirting around, talking to people animatedly, posing for pictures and ordering the staff around. She has not noticed you come in but you do not mind. You will be seeing her personally very soon.
Dinner finishes and you start saying your goodbyes, using a headache as your excuse. After ensuring everything is set and your plan is successfully in motion you head for the abandoned factory located about a couple hundred meters behind the villa. The place is quiet and poorly lit but best of all, it is a place without any CCTV cameras. People never bother to come here, one because it is an abandoned, dusty factory and two, it ends in a dead end which is also a junkyard pile.
The watch on your wrist reads five minutes to ten thirty which means Sumin will be here anytime soon.
You wait for her under the only lit lamppost in the area, watching the bugs fly around the light before fixing your wandering gaze on the autumn night sky, the faded echoes of the music from the party your background noise. The sky is glittering with stars tonight, you observe.
“Hello?”
The sudden female voice makes you turn around.
Sumin is standing there with a confused look which quickly morphs into caution when she sees you. “So it was you? You asked me to come here?” She questions with a hint of annoyance as she holds up the note you left for her at the dinner table.
Come to the junkyard at ten thirty. If you tell anyone about this it will be very bad for you.
Your reply is a sweet smile which you know will aggravate her.
“Seriously, I don’t have time for your games. I have a party to get back to.” She huffs, crumpling your note and throwing it down to the ground.
“Of course you do,” you nod, stepping closer to her. She waits for you to elaborate but you deny her the pleasure, instead observing her with a mysterious smile. Her petite, thin frame is drowning in an unbuttoned pink fur jacket. Underneath that, she is dressed in a glittery pastel pink crop top and a matching mini skirt with knee-high boots. As if that wasn’t enough glitter, her eyeshadow and her brown hair are equally shining in glitter.
Life must be so fun for her.
“Hello? Care to explain why you brought me out here?” Sumin snaps two fingers before crossing her hands over her chest, and tapping the tip of her heel on the concrete.
You release a deep sigh before looking her straight in the eye. “Break up with Seungcheol.”
She blinks three times as she processes your words before letting out the biggest scoff of amusement. “Come again?”
“You heard me. Break up with him while I’m asking nicely.”
Sumin appears only more flabbergasted which she expresses with a high-pitched laughter bubbling up from her throat. “The audacity you have! Coming to my party and then calling me here with a threatening note only to tell me to break up with my fiance? Holy shit, you really are crazy!”
You silently watch her with your arms crossed, unamused.
Her expression only grows brighter, lighting up with elation as if she just solved the world’s biggest mystery. “I wasn’t wrong! From the day I first saw you at my engagement party, I knew something was up with you. Your eyes were always following Seungcheol! You are delusional, thinking you can take him from me. Even if I break up with him, do you think he would take you as his wife? He treats you like a sister— no no, I’m being too kind. He tolerates you! You are a pesky little ant that keeps bothering him but he is kind enough not to crush you! You are so fucking unbelievable, ___.”
You warned her, she did not listen. Time to bring out the big guns.
Reaching into your handbag, you pull out a small rectangular envelope before tossing it to the ground in front of her.
“What is it?” Sumin asks, raising an annoyed brow. You remain mute as you wait for her to pick it up. With a huff, she does so as she pries it open and pulls out the photos stacked inside. After flipping through only two of them, the colour drains from her face as she screams and drops them all from her hands.
“You! You bitch! Where did you get them from?” Sumin’s eyes are as wide as saucers accompanied by a look of sheer panic on her face that brings you immense joy.
“Oh sweet Sumin,” You smirk. “You should be careful when having an affair behind your fiancee’s back. You are a chaebol, after all. People are always watching.”
“You psychopath!” She hisses, marching towards you. In a fit of wild rage, she grabs you by the collar and screams. “You think you can get away with blackmailing me! I am the future wife of the Choi Corporation’s president. Everyone will believe me. I can just claim those are fake and you are doing this out of jealousy!”
You cannot stifle a chuckle. Calmly, you grab her hands and hold them tight as you challenge, “Sumin, you are awfully noisy for a cheater. You know I can just send these to the press, right? No matter what your truth is, they are going to eat it up. Your reputation will forever be ruined along with Seungcheol’s. Do you think the Chois would let that happen? They would cut you off immediately.”
“You!” Sumin’s frustrated cry pierces the night silence. “You fucking scarred bitch! I will fucking kill you! Do you think my father would just let you go?”
You smirk. Gripping her hands tightly, you pry them off your collars before shoving her away. “You don’t get to touch me, you scheming cunt.”
Sumin stumbles back a few strides when you start taking slow steps towards her, your hands resting behind your back almost as if you were out on an afternoon stroll. A new look of horror sets on her face when you come closer and whisper in her ear, “I know that your daddy is broke. He has barely been keeping his company together for the last three years. The only reason you are marrying Seungcheol is so you can get half of his money and save yourself.”
A shaky breath comes out of her lips as Sumin steps back from you, her figure trembling. You smile, taking another step closer to her. “I also know the things your daddy did to keep this secret from getting out. But imagine what the Chois would do when they discover that your family— a bunch of thugs, was planning to use them from the very beginning. Partnership? Ha— That was never your intention. You just wanted to take advantage of Seungcheol and his company.”
Sumin keeps looking at you, eyes wide and full of disbelief, panting heavily. Her eyes are the personification of loathing and it creates a sense of achievement so big within you, you feel like bursting.
You have seen enough of her drama.
Stepping even closer to her, you sneer. “Break up with Seungcheol before I ruin you and your entire family to the ground.”
“Never!” She yells, taking you by surprise and shoving you down onto the ground. The hard concrete scrapes your palms which you use to brace yourself, leaving behind a sharp sting.
“I am not going to break up with him! Choi Seungcheol is mine, you beast! My father may be bankrupt now but you don’t know what we are still capable of. We have gotten rid of insects like you many times before. It won’t be hard to shut your mouth forever, you bitch!” She hisses, looking down at you.
You roll your eyes, dusting off the dirt from your palms.
“If I were afraid of dying I never would have joined this game, Sumin.”
She sputters, gritting her teeth, eyes shining with tears of frustration, her hands forming fists. She glares at you for a long moment and you can see the gears shifting in her head through her expression as she gradually composes herself before looking down at the ground, shaking her head and laughing. “That is alright. I will start with your grandfather, then.”
The blood in your veins runs ice cold, making you suddenly grow stiff.
She continues to laugh. “That old man is already on life support. It won’t be abnormal if he dies suddenly, will it? Right now, in fact?’’ She grins, pulling out her mobile and teasingly shaking it in her hand. “What do you say? Should I make a call? Show you how easy it is for me?’’
You breathe in and out sharply, your hands forming fists at your sides. Before you can open your mouth, she continues.
“Oh right! I forgot something important. Before I kill him, you should know a secret, ___.”
You remain rooted to your spot, glaring at her. She grins. “Your grandfather, Kim Han Oh? He is your real grandfather, not a kind old man who happened to see you one day and adopted you.”
What?
A scoff of disbelief falls from your lips. “The fear of being exposed has made you crazy, no? You’re saying anything now.” You sigh, standing up and shaking off the dust from your clothes, almost feeling pity for the girl. There is no way she could be serious right now.
Sumin’s lips break into a larger grin as she slowly moves closer to you, her eyes flashing dangerously. “Oh, poor you! You know nothing, sweetheart. Kim Han Oh is your real grandfather. You are connected by blood. But that is not even the best part.” She stops to let out a giggle. “The best part is, you ended up in that orphanage because of him.”
In the eerie stillness of the night, the only sound is the sharp intake of your breath as your body grows stiff. “You are lying.” Your breath comes out uneven.
You wish your words came out stronger.
“Oh, ___. I wish I were. Your father had you out of wedlock. Your mother was a waitress at a bar when she met your father. When you were 3 years old, he finally decided to confess to your grandfather about his secret family, hoping he would accept you and your mom. He never did. He kicked you three out of his house and while returning from his place, the accident occurred.” Sumin pauses, inspecting your behaviour carefully. She tilts her chin up, pointing to your face, “That scar marring your face? You got it because of him, sweetheart.”
By now, your entire world has collapsed as your body starts shutting down, making your vision blurry as you lose your footing. You choke on your breath, trying to form words of disagreement which comes out as a pathetic whimper. Your hands search pointlessly for something to hold onto and with nothing around you, you fall back down on the ground, panting harshly.
The dim ray of the street light falling over you gets blocked by Sumin as she towers over you with a fiendish smile of victory. Sitting in front of you, she places one knee on the ground and rests her hand on the other.
“It hurts, right? It will hurt more when I tell you that the Choi family is aware of this as well.”
Your eyes fly to her face, wide with alarm and despair.
“That’s right, they know what a filthy, low-born you are. Discarded by your grandfather and then taken back out of pity.” Her words are pure venom, each one hurting more than the last. “You prance around thinking you are the queen of the world, chosen among others because you have something special but in reality, you are a disgusting mutt who does not know her place.”
You cough which morphs into a sob as tears start to blur your vision.
This is not how this was supposed to go.
“How dare you,” Sumin breathes, reaching out her claws to tuck a piece of stray hair behind your ear, “even think of touching Seungcheol, hm? He is mine. Even if I fuck ten guys behind his back, he would choose me any day over someone like you.”
“Shut up!” You cry out.
Sumin chuckles. “You should not have poked your filthy nose in my business, ____. I have ruined you with just my words, now watch as I ruin Seungcheol right in front of you.”
“No!” You hiss, clutching her shoulders. She pries your hands off. “Oh yes. I will marry him and I will destroy him and everything he holds dear. Why? Because I can. Because this is my payback for thinking you can mess with me!”
Pushing you away, she stands up, giving you one last look of victory before marching away, the heels of her boots leaving behind echoes of mockery as you pant harshly.
At the last moment, you call out. “Sumin?’’
She turns around. “Ugh, what now—”
A gun goes off.
If there was no silencer, the haunting echo would ripple through the night air. In its absence, there is a small click followed by an eerie stillness as Sumin drops to the ground, falling on her side with a clean bullet hole sitting on her forehead.
Lowering the gun in your hand, you wipe your tears and stand up. Your handbag lies on the ground haphazardly and you pick it up, putting the gun inside like it was when you came here.
With a heavy sigh, you walk towards where her body lies and watch her remain still, looking at you with the blankest pair of eyes as rivulets of blood flow down her temple.
Surprisingly, you do not feel any remorse. For one second, before pulling the trigger, you hesitated, thinking this decision would come back to haunt you. Now, in the beautiful silence of the night, you do not. Somewhere deep down, you knew this was inevitable, hence you brought the gun.
“You should not have underestimated me if you knew where I came from. Filthy people like me will do filthy things for the people we love. We are villains.” You sigh. “Rest in peace, Sumin.”
You spare one last look at her before walking away from the scene, picking up the photos and the note she dropped earlier on the ground along your way.

Morning comes faster than anticipated.
As soon as you come downstairs after waking up, you find your secretary waiting for you with her tablet in her hands, standing at her usual spot even though it is the weekend. The look, however, on her face immediately tells you that the news of Sumin’s death has spread. Schooling your expression, you cross the stairs, heading straight for the kitchen. “Morning, Yuna. Is today not a Saturday?”
“Yes, madam. But…” She hesitates. “Did you hear the news?’’
“What news?” You pick up a glass of orange juice and sip on it.
“Sumin was murdered. Kim Sumin.”
You widen your eyes, setting down the glass with a loud clank. “What?’’
“Yes,” Yuna fidgets as she steps closer to you, eyes shining with mischief as if she is about to share a big secret. “Last night. Apparently, she was shot in the head. The Lees and Chois have given out special orders. No news outlet knows the details of her murder. It is being kept under wraps.”
“I see. How unfortunate,” You stare at the ground before going back to finish your juice.
“Since she was murdered last night while the party was ongoing, the police will be questioning all the attendees. You will also get a call sometime soon.”
“Hm, I left early so I won’t be much help but sure.” You pretend to be absent-minded. “Anyway, is there anything in my schedule today?’’
Yuna opens her mouth to speak but you get her off with a raise of your hand, “Never mind, it doesn’t matter. Cancel it. I need to visit Seungcheol and see how he is doing. He should be at home, no?”
“Yes, madam.”

There is a sort of eerieness in the air when you step inside Seungcheol’s mansion. A mais greets you, announcing that Seungcheol is busy seeing a visitor in his study. You lie, telling her he is already expecting you and march towards his room, your heels clicking against the marble floor. You ponder whether it is your imagination that makes his otherwise magnificent home look dull. Maybe it is because of the dark weather outside along with the empty hallways and the lack of usual decorative lights that cast this entire place with a bleak, grey spell. It feels like you have entered the haunted castle of a prince mourning the death of his lover.
If only he knew she was not a lover but a witch.
The voices inside Seungcheol’s study are loud and frustrated enough that you can hear them from the outside quite clearly. Standing in front of the wooden double doors, you lean closer and easily identify Sumin’s father’s voice as he yells. “I need to know who is behind this as soon as possible!”
“Trust me when I say that I will get to the bottom of this.” Replies Seungcheol. “The one who killed her is also an enemy of the Choi family.”
How dramatic.
You roll your eyes. Would he feel the same if he knew what she was doing behind his back?
“That is why I am telling you to trust me. You cannot make rash decisions now. I have employed a good friend of mine as the leading officer in this case. The truth will be out sooner or later.”
“It should be out soon! The bastard ruined us! He killed my daughter and ruined this entire family!” The old man keeps yelling.
You smirk.
It is a she.
He keeps going on about giving his trust to the Chois and telling Seungcheol that he has his full faith in him. You cannot help shaking your head in mirth. Of course, Mr. Lee will say that. He knows that the less he is involved in the investigation, the better because otherwise, all his dirty secrets will be uncovered. He just needs to act like a devastated father and let his daughter’s fiance take care of it.
As you sense their conversation coming to an end, you walk back a few steps, pretending as if you just arrived and are about to make your way inside. The door to the study opens as Mr. Lee steps out, frustrated, murmuring something under his breath. He does not look to be grieving at all which is not a surprise for you. You knew very well that Sumin was only a tool to get him what he wanted, money.
You greet him with a sad expression but he is too busy thinking to himself that he absentmindedly sends a nod your way before marching away.
Once again, you grin.
The entire situation keeps getting more hilarious.
With a deep breath, you take a moment to compose yourself before pushing the door and stepping inside his study. Seungcheol who was staring out the window with his hands on his hips turns around as he hears you step inside.
“___?” He is surprised.
Your heart skips a beat as his eyes meet yours. He looks beat down, like he did not get any sleep the whole night, his appearance dishevelled. His white shirt is crinkled, folded messily up to his arms, his hair unstyled and the slightest dust of stubble covering his chin. A glass of half-drunk whiskey sits on his desk.
For one horrible moment, you wonder if he loved Sumin. That would not be possible, this marriage was only a business deal.
“Hey,” You give him a sad smile which comes out genuinely. Stepping closer to him, you pull him in a gentle hug. “I heard the news this morning. I am so sorry.”
Seungcheol nods, reaching for the drink and finishing it in one go.
“Does the police have any leads?”
“No.” He grunts. “It is quite almost the perfect crime.”
Oh my.
“What do you mean?”
“There is no CCTV footage. It was a blind spot that remained empty most of the time. Sumin did not receive any text messages and there is nothing on her phone that indicates any threats. The last footage of her is her leaving the party by herself and walking towards the abandoned factory. The crime scene was also clean as hell. There are no signs of struggle and the gun is yet to be found.” He grows more frustrated with each word.
You reach to rub his arm soothingly, “Give them some time, I am sure they will find something.”
“I fucking hope so.” He sighs, rubbing his face with his palms.
A grim pause settles in the air and it slowly becomes unnerving. You promptly ask, “Seungcheol?”
“Hm?’’ You calling his name brings him out of his head and makes him turn around to face you properly.
For a horrible moment, your throat closes up.
As you look into his eyes, flashbacks of the previous night come to you in tsunami waves as you feel yourself slipping into an endless pit.
You have tried your level best to keep the things Sumin revealed yesterday out of your mind but when you look at Seungcheol, a loathsome sense of betrayal overtakes you. At the same time, there is fear. You are terrified that the look in your eyes gives you away, telling him about the crime you committed last night.
It is all-consuming, paralyzing.
Amid the battle of words and thoughts inside your mind, you end up asking, “Did you love her?”
He frowns.
You hold your breath, watching and waiting. A look of offence seems to cover his face and you hate it. He should be saying that he did not love her, they were in an agreement of convenience and she was like a friend to him.
“Why do you ask?’’
You shrug, “No reason. I was just curious. I wonder what it feels like to lose a loved one.” You look away, putting on a face of ponder.
Seungcheol remains silent and you start accepting your defeat, realising he probably fell in love with her.
What a horrible sensation.
“I was not in love with her if that is what you are asking. I was comfortable with her like a friend and I was happy to share my future with her. She was nice and kind and beautiful, so somewhere along the line I saw myself falling for her.”
For some reason, his words hurt more, despite him saying he is not in love with her. You detest that look in his eyes, a look that says he has transported back in time and is remembering her with fondness that you wish he would feel for you.
“I see,” you whisper. “Anyhow, I hope you find her killer. If you need any help, I am here.”
“Thanks,” he nods. “The police will probably drop by sometime to ask general questions.”
“Hm, I am happy to help even though I am not sure how helpful I can be.”
“It is just general procedure, so don't worry about it.”
“I am not.” You smile.
_
The next afternoon an officer in plain clothes pays a visit to your office. You have been expecting it and you welcome him in your space, offering him a seat on the large couch in the middle of your office room. As you sit down in front of him, an assistant brings two cups of tea before leaving you two alone in a room of silence minus the ticking of the clock.
The officer begins. “I am Sergeant Thomas. You probably know why I am here.”
“Yes, sergeant, I am aware.”
“Right.” He nods before producing a small notebook and a pen from his pocket.
“So this is a basic procedure. Please try to remember as many details as possible.”
“I will try my best,” You nod, crossing one leg over the other.
“Did you talk to the victim on the night of her murder?’’
“No. I arrived late and left early. Besides, she was already very busy talking to everyone.” Truth.
“Did you see anything different about her? Like she was uncomfortable or scared?’’
“No, she seemed to be her normal bubbly self.” Truth.
“Did anything unusual happen at the party?”
“Unusual?”
“Maybe any argument or fight? Between any of the attendees?” He shrugs.
“No, nothing like that.” You shake your head.
He nods. “And when did you leave the party?”
“Around 9.45 pm.” Lie.
“Why did you leave early?’’
“I had a long work day and a headache was creeping up on me.” Lie.
“Right,” he nods, jotting something down in his notebook. “And when you were leaving did you see anyone suspicious around the area?”
“Not that I remember of, no.”
“Did you see the victim outside? Maybe with someone or by herself?”
“No.”
The officer sighs loudly. “I guess that covers it.”
A smile creeps on your lips but you cover it by offering him a sympathetic look. “I suppose you have not found many leads yet.”
“Unfortunately so,” the man nods, sipping his tea. “This will be a tough case to break.”
You shift in your seat, “How did she die, if you don’t mind my asking.”
“She was shot in the head.”
You gasp, covering your mouth. “Oh no.”
He nods. “Thank you for your time, President Kim. If you remember anything else please contact me.” He stands up, holding out his card. You take it with a nod. “I will sergeant, thank you.”
“Good day, then.” He sends a nod your way before walking out of your office.
You watch him leave with a diabolic smile before crumpling his card and throwing it in the trash, heaving out a loud sigh.
Level one completed successfully.

2 months later
Life is mundane.
With your grandpa still being comatose and the investigation of Sumin’s murder coming to a standstill due to the lack of evidence, there is nothing to keep you on your toes.
With the lapse of time, you had grown to be indifferent about everything.
Until now, when debates have sparked about Seungcheol’s capability to lead the Choi Corporation. Finally, the time has come for you to make your second move. They have been facing a hard time, wavering stock prices and a heavy debate over being in favour or against Seungcheol as the company’s head. With Sumin’s murder and the end of the union with Lee Media, things are extremely unstable as the power-hungry board of trustees deems him unsuitable to lead the company. Not to mention rumours have been going around stating that the Choi family was behind Sumin’s murder.
Now is the perfect time to start working on the second half of your plan. You have been helping them secure investments, regularly sitting for meetings with Seungcheol and his dad to plan new projects. Your plan can now be initiated seamlessly.
Today is another one of those days and you, Seungcheol and his dad have come together in his office after work to go over the profits of the latest joint venture.
“This is good but we can do better.” Mr Choi says, setting down the sheets on the coffee table and rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Most shareholders are still against Seungcheol and they want quick results.”
At the mention of his name, the man sighs and looks at his father, exasperated. “Dad, we have gone over this. We need to keep working to rebuild what we have lost. And we’re starting to see results. The board will give up sooner or later.”
“We need something more solid, son. We need something right now to prove to everyone that Choi Corporation still has a very bright future.”
You cannot resist this perfect opportunity.
Setting down the spreadsheet you were holding, you lean back on the couch and cross your arms before looking at Seungcheol. “You need to form a union.”
Seungcheol raises a thick brow. Mr Choi shuffles, peering at you inquisitively. You have to stifle a pleased smile. “Choi Corporation needs to form a long-term alliance with another big industry.” You pause. “And what better way to do that than through matrimony.”
There is a stretch of silence followed by your words.
Seungcheol scoffs, “What non—”
“Aha!” His father interrupts with a look of pure elation on his face. “You are so right! Why did I not think of this before…” The light in his face starts to diminish. “But which elite family would agree to ally with us now, unless…” An unmistakable flash of hope sparks in his eyes as he looks at you.
Absolutely delighted, you wait for him to voice the words.
“___, would you… be willing to?” His voice is full of hope.
“Dad!” Seungcheol gasps, standing up and scowling at his father with bafflement.
Oh baby, you are yet to be surprised.
Completely ignoring Seungcheol’s outburst and holding eye contact with his father, you reply. “I would be honored to.”
“What?” Seungcheol whips his head at you.
“Then it is settled,” Mr. Choi stands up with a clap of his hands. “We need to start preparing.”
You finally let your gaze travel to Seungcheol who is looking at you like he cannot believe you just did that. There are unsaid questions in his eyes, mixed with confusion and maybe even suspicion which he does not get to voice because he is going after his father. “Dad, you cannot be serious. Sumin’s case is still unsolved and—”
“You can solve that after the engagement, no? It is important to save the company right now. I understand how you feel but this way we can secure your future. I have known ___’s grandfather for so long and this would be a perfect match.”
Seungcheol looks at his father, distraught. His mouth opens but he fails to form words, raking a frustrated hand through his hair instead.
Watching their interaction you know for sure, you have won this round as well.
-
The next day you pay Seungcheol a visit on your way home from work. When you step inside his mansion, there is a different air about you which is reflected in the way you walk; like you own the place. You find Seungcheol in his study as you expected, still dressed in work clothes as he sips a cup of coffee with his eyes trained on his laptop. For a moment, you let yourself admire the way he looks in that white shirt folded at the sleeves, the top two buttons undone and his perfectly messy hair that can only be made by continuously running his hands through it.
This man is going to be yours.
Knocking on his open door, you make your presence known and step in, “Hey there.”
Seungcheol looks up and when his eyes lock with yours you see the lack of shine they previously used to have when he saw you. There is also a change in his reaction as he greets you by simply uttering your name.
You had expected resistance from him so it is fine.
“I came to check up on you.” You state in your friendliest voice as you stop in front of his desk. Pointing towards the couch on your left, you ask. “May I?”
He nods, watching you sit down and place your crimson handbag on the mahogany coffee table. Then, he gets up and comes to take a seat on the couch opposite you.
“You don’t look well.” You start.
“Yes,” he watches you carefully. “I’ve been trying to adjust myself to the upcoming changes.”
You heave out a sigh. “Listen, I know you are not up for this change—’’
“That’s an understatement,’’ he remarks drily.
You frown. “I don’t understand why you are mad at me.” You do not hide the indignation in your voice.
Seungcheol regards you silently and you can see that he is trying to hold back questions; questions he has about this sudden partnership, your prompt agreement and your intentions behind them. You see it all in his eyes and you know he does not voice them because they would hurt you, because his suspicion is just a form of his own resistance and he has no proof to back up his theories.
After a long moment, he exhales loudly, letting his head hang low before rubbing his face with his palm.
“This is just…too sudden.” He huffs out a breath before shaking his head. “I still cannot believe you and my dad just fixed my engagement right in front of me without asking me once.”
A small smile graces your lips. “Seungcheol, you know that I will not get engaged to you if you are not fully on board with this idea, right?”
You hold his gaze and notice how his features visibly soften as he nods. You continue. “I understand you are still hooked on what happened and I won’t force you to move on. This will just be a business partnership which will benefit both our companies.”
“You’re right.” Seungcheol murmurs, his eyes cast down as if he is lost in thought.
“Your father wants us to get engaged next week. Are you okay with that?”
Your words make him sit up straight, newfound determination sparkling in his eyes. “That works for me. How about you?”
“Me too.” You give him your most flattering smile.
-
You get engaged to Seungcheol on a Saturday.
The ceremony is very small— almost nonexistent, taking place only in the presence of Seungcheol’s family, his secretary and yours. Somewhere within you, you sense an emptiness caused by the absence of your grandpa. At the same time, remembering him leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. You are still wrapping your head around the information Sumin revealed to you months ago.
Of course, you did some digging and went deeper to find out about your parents, which you never thought you would do. You never thought you would long for them or feel sorry for them, but you do now. Still, the anger does not fade away. It won’t until you get to confront your grandpa, which is why he must wake up. He has to.
Immediately after the short engagement ceremony, an official statement is released from both of your companies, sending the press into a frenzy. They treat it as if it is the biggest happening of the decade, even bigger than Seungcheol’s previous engagement, writing hundreds of articles and gossip tabloids. The general public does not hold back either, coming up with various theories linking you, Seungcheol, and Sumin together. Many say that you will be the next victim of the Choi family— they will get rid of you like Sumin.
Their words make you laugh. If the people knew the truth, what would they say? Would they understand you?
Probably not.
Which is fine, because your lifelong dream has come true.
You are going to marry Choi Seungcheol.
_
Just one week after your engagement, your grandpa wakes up from his coma.
You are stepping out of the plane after returning from your business trip to Hong Kong when you check the text from your secretary. Your grandpa woke up from his coma two hours ago and is very stable now.
The news has you standing still for a moment. There are mixed feelings but the most prominent feeling you sense is dread. You wonder what he will say. Would anything he say make you love him the way you used to?
Probably not.
When you step into your grandpa’s VIP ward, it is crowded. Your secretary, your grandpa’s caretaker and your future father-in-law are already there, hovering around his bed.
“Look who is here finally!” Mr. Choi grins as he spots you, standing up from his seat that is right by your grandpa’s bed. “Come in, come in.”
Your grandpa is seated on the bed, his back supported by pillows, looking a lot better than the last time you saw him. As soon as he sees you step in, his eyes shine and a large smile spreads on his lips.
A piece of your heart breaks.
“I hope you don’t mind, ____. I have already told him the good news.” Mr Choi says mischievously and you force a smile at him.
“Mr. Choi, could I have a moment with my grandpa, in private?”
“Of course, of course!” He nods and ushers everyone out of the room. When the door closes behind you and the silence settles, you step towards the bed.
“____, come, come! Sit.” Your grandpa motions to the seat by his bed.
Once you are seated, he immediately captures your hand in his, his frail, bony fingers clasping yours tightly as his eyes shine with unshed tears. “Oh ___! So much has happened. How could I miss it all! My little girl got engaged and I missed it!”
You cannot bring yourself to meet his eyes and for some reason, he fails to spot your weird behaviour. He continues, “I have missed you so much. Did you miss me? The nurse told me you have not been visiting regularly.” He looks at you expectantly.
You have to swallow a hard lump in your throat when you finally speak. “Grandpa, we need to talk.”
He lets go of your hands, pinching his brows together. “What is wrong?”
“Is there a secret you are hiding from me?”
“What? What secret?” He scoffs. “What are you—”
“You are my real grandfather, aren’t you?” You snap.
Time stills for a moment. Your grandpa watches you, his eyes slowly widening with alarm as seconds tick by. “I…y-you—” He stammers, looking bewildered.
You bite your lip hard to stop yourself from crying. “For the last two months, I have been waiting. Hoping, praying, that what I learned is not true even though everything pointed out otherwise. Please, tell me I am wrong. Tell me I am misunderstanding, please! Tell me you did not lie to me, grandpa!”
By now tears are rolling down your cheeks as you grab his hands in a desperate hold. He does not meet your gaze, looking down instead as he tries to stifle a sob.
“Why did you do it?” Messy tears blur your vision as you shake him, trying to make him look at you. “Why did you hate my parents so much? Why did you hate me so much, tell me!”
“I did not hate you, please— I…I did not know better.” He pleads, holding your hands. “I…I expected better things from your father. He was never the son I wanted him to be and when I found out he had a hidden family, I…I just lost it. I did not want them to die, you have to believe me.” His eyes are wide, his grip on your hands tightening as the desperation comes off him in waves.
“I felt so guilty that I…I could not look at you. You were so young and the accident left you with that scar and I felt responsible for it. So I sent you to that orphanage but that did not ease my guilt either. I sent you away but I did not forget you. I did not abandon you, I swear! I always had my eyes on you and I made sure you were taken care of. Years went by and as you grew up, I saw what an amazing future you had ahead of you. You— you were good at everything! So I decided to adopt you, give you the opportunity to fill out your potential—
“So I was an investment?” You cut him off with a glare.
“No!” Your grandpa begs. “It wasn’t like that! I…I learned to overlook my guilt. I…I did it out of love, ___. I was miserable without you. You have to believe me.” His eyes hold so much hope and desperation yet every word he says makes him appear more like a stranger to you.
“I don’t care!” You yell, snatching your hands from his grip. The rage flowing through your blood prevents you from remaining seated. You stand on your feet and look down at him, your teeth gritting in anger. “I don’t care if you did it out of love! You lied to me. If you loved me, you would have told me the truth when I was old enough. Did you think I never would have found out? Do you…do you know how awful it made me feel when I heard it from a fucking stranger!” The rage, the betrayal, the frustration you feel is maddening.
“My child, please, I’m sorry. Just listen—” Your grandpa’s pleas to listen fall deaf on your ears as you glower at him. How could he do that to you? How could he do that to your parents? How is it possible that your heart is ripping apart in pain for two people you don’t even remember?
Absentmindedly, your hand reaches to touch the faded scar on your left cheek, the surface still slightly bumpy to the touch.
Your grandpa grabs your hand once more, breaking the train of your thoughts. As soon as he touches you, you step back, snatching your hand away from his grip.
“___, please, listen to me.” He begs.
“No,” you shake your head. “I loved you. You were my rock, grandpa. And this is how you repay me?”
The longer you look at him, the crueler you find yourself becoming. The man you have known your entire life starts to appear more and more unfamiliar. Wiping all the tears from your face, you take a deep, shuddering breath. Your hands curl into fists as you look him straight in the eye and announce. “You are not invited to the wedding.”
“What?” He gasps, his mouth hanging agape as one of his hands reaches out to try to grab onto you.
“You heard me. Don’t try to contact me. If I want to see you again, I will come find you.”
You don’t look back as you storm out of the room.
The old man’s pitiful sobs do not make you turn around as you block the noises by loudly shutting the door behind you.
The first thing you do when you get back home is open a bottle of wine. Chugging a quarter of it, you plop down on the cold living room floor.
Your phone vibrates with a new message inside your pocket and with an annoyed grunt, you fish it out. There is a missed call from Seungcheol followed by a message from him saying how happy he is that your grandpa woke up. Along with it, there are a bunch of texts from different people in your company and other firms, telling you how glad they are for you and what gifts they have sent for your grandpa.
It is aggravating. In a fit of rage, you hurl your phone away as it hits the couch first before dropping face-down on the floor.
Fuck them all.
You down more of the red liquid, finding the bitter taste oddly addictive. The more you drink the sweeter it tastes as a soothing haziness settles in your brain that numbs every feeling, every thought you had.
With the bottle almost empty and clutched to your chest, you soon fall asleep on the floor.
Next thing you know, you are violently being shaken awake from your slumber.
The first thing you feel is a raging headache that leaves your vision blurry for a few solid seconds. When you regain it, you find Yuna hovering over you, grabbing your shoulders. Behind her, you spot the worried face of your housekeeper, Mrs. Min.
Your secretary keeps saying something but the throbbing headache prevents you from hearing any of it as you struggle to sit up straight. Taking a deep, staggering breath, you squeeze your eyes shut before opening them again.
“Madam, are you okay? Can you hear me?”
You finally manage to look at her straight. “Fuck— what is it Yuna? What are you doing here? What time is it?”
“It is 2 am, madam. We have been trying to reach you for the past two hours. Your fiancee is on his way. You were not opening the door so I called your housekeeper to let me in.”
Right, Mrs. Min knows your code.
“I don’t understand, what is the emergency?” You sigh, irately rubbing your temples to ease the headache.
“Madam,” your secretary pauses and you have to force yourself to lift your head again and look at her. “Your grandfather passed away two hours ago.”
Suddenly, your mind is clear.
Your body stiffens, and the headache instantly fades into thin air. You are more alert than you have ever been before.
Wide-eyed, you stare at her, waiting for something you don’t know. Maybe she will say that it is a prank, maybe you will wake up any moment from this nightmare, maybe she will repeat herself and you will realise you heard wrong.
None of that happens.
Yuna continues. “I am really sorry. He was in his sleep when his heart rate suddenly spiked before stopping. They could not bring him back.”
You pick yourself up from the ground before gently sitting down on the couch, your eyes trained on the blank wall ahead of you. An agonizing wave of anguish swallows your whole being as a gaping hole of numbness spreads within you with the passing of each second.
You don’t blink. You don’t move. You don’t cry.
You sit and stare at the wall until your secretary offers. “Should I drive you to the hospital?”
You nod.
“Would you like me to call Mr Choi and tell him to meet you there?”
You nod again.
-
At noon, the funeral ceremony comes to an end.
You get a glimpse of the fruitful life your grandpa lived by the number of guests who come to give you their condolences.
Thankfully, Seungcheol and his dad took over early on as they ran the ceremony and managed the guests while you sat in a corner in silence.
The entire ceremony finishes without you shedding a single tear. Neither do you cry in the car as Seungcheol drives you home.
However, the minute you step into your penthouse and tread sluggishly to your bedroom, you spot the photo of you and your grandpa on your nightstand and finally break down.
Holding the photo frame tightly against your chest, you curl into a ball on the floor and howl like a dying creature. Tremors wrack your body as your sob intensifies along with the soul-crushing remorse and pain for what you have lost.
Perhaps it is your ruinous crying that makes Seungcheol knock on your door as he steps in with a mug of hot tea and finds you curled up and wailing on the floor.
He looks distressed and unsure for a moment, debating whether to give you some privacy before going against it. Instead, he comes closer and sets the mug down on the nightstand before gently placing a hand on your shoulder.
You continue weeping and Seungcheol slowly maneuvers your feeble body into a sitting position before he scoops you up and sets you down on the bed. But he doesn’t let you go. His arm remains a firm hold around your body and without thinking you wrap your arms around his neck as tightly as humanly possible, trying to bury yourself and your sorrows in his body. Your action makes him only embrace you tighter as he uses one hand to stroke your hair repeatedly in an attempt to comfort you.
“I fought with him the last time I saw him,” you yawl between sobs, face mushed in Seungcheol’s shoulder. “I fought with him, Cheol! He hates me…he will never forgive me.”
“Hush, hush now.” Seungcheol soothes, holding you tighter if that is even possible. “It is alright. He knows how much you love him, ___. He could never be mad at you.”
“I should have told him how much I loved him!” You howl, digging your fingernails into his back. “What have I done, Cheol? How could I do that?”
“It is alright. Everything will be okay.” Seungcheol chants repeatedly while tenderly rocking your limp frame, allowing you to cry your heart out. The tears that had not flowed in the last ten hours pour out ceaselessly, making a mess on Seungcheol’s jacket.
Time ticks by. The tea grows cold. The sun starts to lower in the sky.
When you have finally calmed down and can breathe without choking from tears, Seungcheol lets you go.
He sits in silence next to you as you wipe your tears and snot using his handkerchief.
“You should eat something.” He whispers. You shake your head, crumpling the piece of cloth in your hands as you gaze at it in a blank stare.
Next to you, Seungcheol sighs. “Would you like to lie down for a bit? I will give you some privacy.” He stands up but you immediately pull him back down before wrapping your arms around him and resting your head on his chest. His arms snake around your body once more as you listen to his heartbeat.
You realize how glad you are to have him next to you. How could you ever go through a day like today without him holding you in his arms?
“Thank you,” your voice is the faintest whisper of gratitude. For a moment, you think he did not hear you but then he shifts, cupping your cheek as you look up at him.
“You don’t have to thank me. I am sorry this is all I can do.” He tenderly brushes a thumb over the scar on your cheek, making your heart soar.
You immediately shake your head. “You are doing so much.” You whisper, eyes trailing down to his lips. Mirroring your gaze, Seungcheol’s eyes also travel to your lips and unconsciously, you find yourself leaning a tad bit closer to him. Once again, he mirrors your actions.
Your eyes fall closed and a moment later, you feel Seungcheol’s soft lips against yours. The kiss is tender and shy as if the waters are being tested. You lean in, grabbing the lapels of his jacket to bring him closer. Against your touch, his body relaxes as the kiss deepens, drawing out a soft moan from you. You taste peppermint on his tongue, a sigh of pleasure escaping your lips when he returns your kiss with equal fervent, exploring your mouth.
The kiss is beautifully breathtaking. It is everything you imagined and more, your late night fantasies gift-wrapped in a pink bow.
Seungcheol is the first one to pull back as the two of you pant for air, still holding on to each other. His eyes trace all over your face as if he is trying to remember every small detail about you. You do the same, peering at him through your lashes as your thumb strokes his cheek and you lean in for another kiss.
This time, it is more passionate as Seungcheol envelops you with his body, gently pushing you behind so that your back meets the mattress. He lays on top of you, one hand holding on to the nape of your neck while the other explores your body, moving from your waist down to your legs. His warm hand traces down your leg under your skirt before coming back up as he squeezes your thigh.
A moan falls from your lips, breaking the kiss and he uses the opportunity to bite your lip softly.
His eyes lock with yours for a moment, his hand hovering near your inner thigh as he silently waits for your permission. You comply, reattaching his mouth on yours and opening your legs wider as he gives the flesh of your thigh a particularly harsh squeeze, the pad of his thumb stroking your inner thigh, so close to where you want him to touch you.
Then, you feel the warmth of his fingers over your core before he cups your pussy over your panties.
You whimper. “Please.”
“What?” He mouths against your lips.
“Touch me,” you reply, chasing his lips to reconnect with yours.
Seungcheol obeys you, his fingers slipping underneath your panties and brushing against your pussy. The sensation, the touch you have craved for so long makes you jolt in pleasure, a shaky breath falling from your lips. His biceps become your anchor as you grip them firmly to ground yourself.
Seungcheol’s lips trace your jaw before trailing down your neck while his fingers rub your pussy. Your hips writhe, chasing his touch while he peppers your neck with kisses before fixing on a particular spot beneath your ear that makes you whimper. Then, he pushes one finger in, dark eyes trained on you as your pleasure amplifies.
“Yes,” you shut your eyes closed, revelling the feeling of his finger inside you. Soon, one finger becomes two and he slowly moves them in and out of you. One of your legs wraps around his waist while you pull him closer to smash your lips against his. Your tongue meets his with a fiery passion, an urgency to claim his as yours. Inside you, his fingers pick up the pace, making your body taught as you start climbing your high.
“C-Cheol…” You pant, looking at him with pleading eyes even though you are unsure if you want to come right now or draw it out.
“Hm?” He hums, eyes hazy with a film of lust. As if teasing you, his thumb brushes over your clit ever so slightly, drawing out a shuddering whine from your lips that makes him chuckle quietly. The sound feels like magic to your ears, a drug to your system that heightens your pleasure. His teeth dig into the soft flesh of your neck, undoubtedly leaving a mark.
“Please,” you heave, clutching his shoulder with one hand and wrapping the other around the broad expanse of his back. Humming against your neck, he uses his fingers to rub an even deeper spot inside you as his thumb rubs your clit mercilessly.
“Oh fuck, yes,” You hiss, throwing your head back, your toes curling as you clutch him tighter. “I’m gonna come.”
“Do it then,” his voice is a quiet order.
He curls his fingers inside you and flicks your clit hard which does the job for you. Your release is a tidal wave of mind-breaking pleasure as your body goes tense, your hips arching off the bed, your mouth hanging open as a reaction to the overwhelming pleasure.
The onslaught of pleasure leaves your vision blurry with unshed tears and your mind numb to everything as you slowly descend from the throes of heavenly bliss.
When your mind has regained some clarity, you see Seungchol still lying on top of you, his eyes locked in on your lips which he is touching with the fingers that were inside of you mere moments ago. Without breaking eye contact with him, you gently hold his hand and push his index and middle finger inside your mouth, sucking them. Seungcheol’s adam’s apple bobs, his eyes flickering with impure intentions that are clearly expressed from his hard-on digging into your belly.
Sucking his fingers clean, you pop them off your mouth, your hand still holding his. Your fingers trace over his knuckles and veins, your eyes never daring to stray from his. It is as if a sudden spell has been cast on the two of you that has locked you in a trance of breathless admiration. It is a shame all good moments must come to an end.
As if zapped by electricity, Seungcheol suddenly pulls his hand out of yours as he gets off your body. The air in the room suddenly shifts to slight awkwardness as Seungcheol blinks furiously, adjusting his pants.
“I…I am sorry.” He mutters, not looking at you as you sit up on the bed. “You were mourning. I should not have done that.”
“I asked you to.” You state with a frown. Does he regret it? “I needed to forget…things for a moment.”
Seungcheol’s eyes finally meet yours as a sigh escapes from his lips and he nods, looking unsure. “Right…”
“I liked it a lot.” You find yourself saying. The look in your eyes is heated, mirroring a newfound fire of desire he has lit within you. Seungcheol swallows, gaze transfixed on you before he clears his throat, the look in his eyes shifting.
“Get some rest.” He whispers, walking out of the room and gently shutting the door behind him.
-
Turns out one can live with soul-crushing guilt.
It has been a week since your grandpa’s death and you find yourself slowly falling back into your old routine. As the days pass by slowly, the pain somewhat lessens but your guilt remains the same, your conscience constantly reminding you of what could have been if you behaved differently with him that day.
That is an answer you will never receive because what is gone is gone, and you are forcing yourself to learn to live with it.
Things with Seungcheol are slightly tense as well. After that particular moment you two shared last week, he has been avoidant. Since that day there has not been any one-on-one interaction between the two of you as he has been checking up on you from time to time with brief text messages. His aloofness has bothered you of course but you have decided not to let it get to you, happy with the fading mark he left on your neck and the memories of that afternoon.
That is why, on a Tuesday afternoon at your office, Seungcheol’s sudden visit surprises you because it is the last place you would expect him to show up.
You straighten up in your chair, palms resting on the armrest as he marches into your office, dressed in his regular office wear that is covered underneath a long black trenchcoat, an odd sort of hurry in his steps.
Your silly assumption that he is here to take you on a surprise date quickly changes when you notice the expression on his face. His jaw is clenched, brows knitted in a frown as he regards you with an accusatory glare.
“Seungcheol?” You stand up behind your desk. “Hey, what brings you here?”
Seungcheol’s brisk steps eat up the rest of the distance as he stands in front of your desk, sparing little space between the two of you. Instead of replying, his eyes remain fixed on you for a moment too long, making you hold your breath.
Your gut senses severe doom from how he regards you, an unfathomable look in his eyes. Finally, he interrogates. “Is there something you are hiding from me, ___?”
“What?” You blink, stumped. “Why would you ask that?”
Seungcheol falls into silence once again as your mind starts running rampant. No matter how desperately you try to convince yourself that he could not possibly be talking about that thing, your mind ends up going there. The silence and the foreign look in his eyes make your fear unimaginably real with each passing second.
“I need you to be honest with me.” He says as he inhales deeply, as if trying to hold his emotions at bay, his eyes never straying from yours. “Please. I am giving you a chance.”
Your heart runs a mile a minute as you suddenly find yourself at a loss for words. The entirety of your body grows as stiff as a board while you find yourself falling into a bottomless pit of ruination. Seungcheol remains unmoving, watching you with a pointed gaze as you struggle to read him, struggle to find the right words. You feel so naked, so transparent right now as if he can read everything fleeting through your mind.
Damn it, how did he find out?
“Madam, the board meeting started five minutes ago.”
A sharp inhale transports you out of your spiralling mind as you whip your head away from Seungcheol when your secretary peers into the room with the reminder.
Like you have been struck by lightning, your body jolts. “Y-yes, I am coming. Give me a minute.” You give her a look of dismissal before focusing on your fiance. In your most composed voice, you say, “I don’t know what this is about, Cheol but we can continue this conversation—”
“I will send you an address.” He cuts you off with a seething glare, stepping away from your desk as if he is about to leave. “You will be there at 9 pm, ___.” There is no room for arguments.
He leaves before you can form an answer and you stand rooted in your spot with tremors in your hands and a parched throat, your feet suddenly too heavy to move.
You deep down knew this would happen one day, didn’t you?
You would be found sooner or later but you never wished to be caught by Seungcheol. You would have much preferred to be caught by the police and given a life sentence. At least that way, you did not have to face him.
“Madam?” There is a knock on your door once again, making you jump.
“Damn it, Yuna! I said give me a minute!”
_
It is one minute to nine pm when you arrive at the location Seungcheol had sent you earlier in the day. You realized karma had gotten you when you clicked on the location and realised it was the exact place where Sumin died.
The world stopped spinning for a moment too long.
Out of pure shock, you dropped your phone from your hands as your knees gave out and you fell to the ground, the realization that everything is coming to an end too much for you to fathom.
Surprisingly, though, it has been easy for you after the initial shock wore off. You had accepted your fate.
Gladly, in fact.
No more pretending now. It is a relief. He knows the real you and whatever decision he makes now, you will accept it gladly. You do not feel remorse for what you have done and you do not see a point in hiding anymore.
And so, you sit in your car, parked a few meters away from the place where he called you. Seungcheol is already here, his car parked a few feet ahead of yours. When you glance at the dashboard clock, you see it is two minutes past nine.
With a loud sigh, you pop the muscles in your neck before stepping out of the car. A gust of chilly air flows by, making you shiver slightly. With your hands fisted in the pockets of your trench coat, you walk ahead, the sound of your heels against the granite your only company.
All too soon, you find yourself in front of that abandoned factory and when you look left, it feels like deja vu. Seungcheol stands there, underneath that yellow street lamp, right where Sumin stood that night.
Your eyes meet his, cold and unblinking and if you did not know any better, you would think he was a statue. A very mesmerising one.
You inhale a lungful of the cold night air before turning left and walking towards him, trying your best to ignore the subtle tremble in your legs. With a few feet of distance left between the two of you, you come to a stop and breathe. “Good evening, Cheol.”
He keeps looking at you impassively but you start noticing the minute changes in his eyes. They shift from disappointment to betrayal to anger and you know very well what lies ahead of you.
Yet, you are unreasonably calm; so calm that you surprise yourself.
Just when you are preparing to start the conversation since he is immobile, Seungcheol reaches into his coat pocket to fish out his phone. His brows tangle in a soft furrow as he scrolls through it before lowering his hand and gently tossing it on the ground, a few steps away from your feet. The device remains face-up on the ground as a video plays.
A dash cam footage from the night of Sumin’s death. You can tell from the angle that the car was parked on the cliff right after the empty field behind where you stand, at an angle that is looking straight at the side wall of the factory, just a couple of meters before the left turn to the front of it. The video keeps running, grainy and slightly blurry due to the distance and the darkness of the night except for a faint hue of yellow light from this very street lamp. You know very well what the next footage will be.
As you imagined, the video plays on and a few seconds later, it shows you coming from the direction of the warehouse before marching away, out of the view.
“There were two cars parked on that cliff that night,” Seunghcheol points upwards, to the cliff behind you. “This is the dash cam footage of one of the cars. Care to explain, ___?” The fury in his eyes is unmistakable.
You breathe out a soft sigh. What does he want? He knows very well what this footage implies so why did he not just hand this over to the police? Standing here in front of him while he demands an explanation feels nothing short of torture to you.
“Go ahead,” He hisses, taking a step towards you. “Claim that it is not you. Tell me I am getting this wrong. Fucking say something!”
“You know very well, Cheol. What do you want me to say?” You finally find your voice which is as soft as a feather.
Furious, he marches towards you, grabbing you by the collars and it is truly a deja vu of that night. “Why did you do it?” He screams, shaking you, his pupils wide with bristling resentment. “Why did you kill her?” He hollers again.
His face is a mere inch or so away from you, so close that you can feel his warm breath puffing out in the cold night air, so close that you can feel the blizzard of emotions radiating off him.
He really cared for her. He might have loved her without even knowing.
Fuck, that thought burns like acid down your throat.
“She had everything I wanted.” You finally find yourself whispering. Seungcheol grows still upon hearing your words as you see the storm in his eyes die down. The entire world seems to quiten for a second as you only hear the two of you breathing. His brows remain furrowed as he regards you with confusion, his grip on your collar faltering. You breathe out, repeating. “Sumin had everything I ever wanted, Cheol.”
“And what was it?” He snaps.
You swallow a lump in your throat but never lose eye contact with him. “You.”
Like he has been electrocuted, Seungcheol lets go of you and takes an immediate step back. His pupils dilate as his mouth opens just slightly in bafflement. You find his reaction almost funny. Overdramatic as well.
Is it really that shocking?
“Stop playing fucking games, ___.’’ He scoffs after the shock has worn off.
“It is true.” You take a step towards him with a new surge of energy in your blood. “I have wanted you since forever…since I was 18. Since the day of your father’s party after you returned from abroad I have longed for you.”
With each word you speak, his jaw hardens and a look of disbelief and something akin to disgust graces his face.
“I have loved you for so long, Seungcheol and then Sumin appeared one day and took you away.” Your pitch loudens as your desperation grows.
He needs to understand you, he needs to see you.
You are not some cold-blooded monster. You are just someone madly in love with him.
“So you killed her!” He seethes.
“She was not right for you!” You cry, eyes blown out, teeth gritting. “She did not love you, Seungcheol! She was using you!”
He closes the gap between the two of you as he roughly grabs the side of your neck, tilting your head upwards. “Shut. Up.” He seethes, his eyes so dark, his gaze so fierce you almost feel like you have been burned down to a pile of ashes. “You are not only a murderer but also a fucking liar.”
A mirthless laughter escapes your lips as you take a step back from his grip and shake your head. You had expected this. You understand he will not believe you this instant but now that he knows what you have done, it will not take too long for him to find out what Sumin and her family was up to. He will believe your words then.
It is a shame you will most likely be behind bars by then.
“Stop laughing!” He shouts, frustrated. Raking a hand through his hair, he stares at the ground before looking back at you, his eyes shining in a look of desperation and betrayal. “I trusted you. You were like my family, ___. How could you do this?”
You cannot bear how disgusted he appears with you.
Why cannot he just shoot you like you shot Sumin?
“You are my family too, Cheol.” You blink back tears. “The feelings I have for you are beyond something anyone can ever comprehend and…it is fine. I prefer it that way. I would burn the world for you, Choi Seungcheol so please don’t look at me with so much hatred.”
“You—” Seungcheol shakes his head with a frustrated grunt. “Just tell me where the fucking gun is.”
There is a faint smile you cannot hold back. “I got rid of it long ago.” You pause. “But don’t worry, this dashcam footage will be enough along with my confession.”
He looks at you with disbelief.
You give him a sad smile.
“Don’t act noble, ___. I know what you are capable of.” He hisses. “I will not trust a word that comes out of your mouth.”
“I am not lying. I won’t run away, Cheol. I promise. Just don’t call the police to my office. I would rather be arrested at home.”
Seungcheol is perplexed with your attitude and after a long moment of silence, when you realize he has nothing more to say, you start walking backwards.
“Goodbye, Cheol. It was really nice knowing you.” With your vision blurry due to unshed tears, you flash him a smile before quickly turning around and heading for your car, not looking back.
You drive all the way home in silence before finally parking your car in the parking lot of your apartment. As the engine dies down, leaving you without its gentle hum, you sit in silence and let the reality of your life wash over you.
You have had a good life. You wonder what it will be like behind the bars. You will plead guilty no matter what your lawyer says and you have no intention of lying and claiming you feel remorse for your actions. A life sentence awaits you for sure, maybe with no parole.
Shaking your head at the absurdity of your future, you rest your hands over the steering wheel, putting your head on them and closing your eyes. Your engagement ring digs into your forehead and you look up to see the small diamond glinting softly. It suddenly feels foreign on your skin and the longer you look at it, the worse it appears. Prying it off your fingers you fist it in your palm, half tempted to break it.
“I hope we can have a good life.” You remember Seungcheol’s words when he slipped that ring on your finger.
And finally, the dam breaks. You clutch the little trinket to your chest as you curl your body into a small ball and weep with your head hanging low. Soon, you cannot stop stifling the noise as your sobs turn into violent cries and in a fit of rage, hopelessness and longing, you punch your dashboard hard enough for your knuckles to bleed.
At some point, the blood seeping from your knuckles dries but your tears don’t.
_
You do not go to your office the next day for obvious reasons.
Instead, you spend the day cleaning your apartment and setting everything in its place one last time while waiting for uniformed officers to knock on your door.
Hours tick by and it never happens, puzzling you.
When the remnants of colour start fading from the dusk sky, someone rings your doorbell. You open it to find Seungcheol’s driver.
“Mr Choi has asked you to come to his house.”
Baffled even further, you quickly change your clothes and follow him out. The man drives you to Seungcheol’s mansion and you hesitantly step outside of the car when you reach your destination all too quickly. The lady who is Seungcheol’s head of staff comes to greet you as she escorts you to his study, holding the door open for you to step in and then closing it softly behind you.
In the dimly lit room, Seungcheol sits at his desk with a glass of whiskey in his hand, his chair turned around so that he faces the window behind him. Tentatively, you walk closer to him and he slightly turns his head to look at you. His eyes are barren, devoid of any emotion, almost inhumane.
A breath catches in your throat but you do not break your eye contact.
“Why did you bring me here?” You whisper, for some reason too scared to speak out loud.
“To have a serious discussion about our futures.” His tone is flat as he swivels his chair to face you.
What is that supposed to mean?
Swallowing, you wait for him to elaborate.
“Does anyone else know what you did?” He asks.
His question throws you off slightly. “Just you. Though…in a way, my driver knows. I asked him to leave early with the empty car and told him to lie and say I was in the car if anyone asked.”
“So basically he knows.”
“Yes, but he is probably the only employee I trust. He has been extremely loyal to my grandfather and me.”
“This is a murder we are talking about.”
“If he wanted to rat me out, he would have done it by now. Besides, he did not witness it.” You frown, pausing. “Wait, I don't understand where this is going. Why are you asking me this?”
Seungcheol sighs, standing up. Pressing his hands flat on his desk, he looks directly into your eyes and leans closer. “Because I am going to cover it up.”
“What?” You had to have heard that wrong. There is no way—
“I am going to bury what you did.” He grunts, appearing disgusted with himself as he speaks the words. “I already got rid of the CCTV footage.”
Your jaw drops, as you subconsciously step back, gripping the back of the couch behind you. “I- I don’t understand…”
“I am not doing this for you.” He spits, scowling at you. “I am doing this for my family.”
You are still at a loss for words, trying to process everything coming out of his lips.
Seungcheol exhales a sigh of defeat, “I have thought about this long and hard. I cannot do this to my family, especially to my father. He was so excited about my marriage to Sumin and now he is ten times more excited to see us getting married. If he found out his ex daughter-in-law was murdered by you, his future daughter-in-law, someone he has always been fond of,” he shakes his head. “It would kill him. Plus, the company would suffer. The board wants to see me married and if my second engagement is ruined as well, I will not be running the company any time soon. My father would be devastated.”
You inhale a lungful of air. “So… you are saying you will still marry me.”
“That is the only way left is it not? Marrying a murderer.” He grits his teeth, his eyes shooting invisible arrows of fire at you.
“No.” Suddenly, your brain clears up. “No, it is not.” Your voice is determined. “This is not what I want!”
“Excuse me?” Seungcheol scoffs.
“I do not want to trap you in this marriage. You are marrying me against your will. I do not accept this. We will come up with an excuse. You can say I cheated on you or something.”
Seungcheol watches you in silence for a long moment before rounding his desk and coming close to you. Making you jerk in surprise, he grabs your arms and holds them tightly, his eyes flashing dangerously in the dimly lit room. “Listen to me very carefully, ____. You have ruined me enough to last a lifetime. Do not ruin my family and my company now. From now on, you will do as I say and play the part of the happiest bride-to-be. Is that fucking clear?’’
You stare at him in defiance.
“Is that clear?” His tone drops as his gaze darkens, giving you goosebumps. “You have done enough for me. No need to act noble and say that you don’t want to trap me when this was your plan all along.”
No, no. That is not true at all. You wanted him to love you. You wanted to be there when he needed help and you wanted him to come to you voluntarily. You were protecting him. He was never supposed to find out all this.
“Seungcheol, you are mistundertsanding me—”
“Are we clear?” He yells, shaking you by the arms.
“Yes.” You whisper.
“Good.” He releases you. “Get out of my sight.”
You blink back tears and swallow a lump in your throat, slowly stepping towards the door with unsteady feet. Just as your fingertips touch the knob, you come to a stop. “Seungcheol?”
You hear a sigh of annoyance. “What?”
You turn around and ask, “Is there anything that you have been hiding from me?”
He raises a brow. “What could you possibly mean by that?”
There is a slight shrug of your shoulders. “Nothing, I just… You know, something like the fact that you knew that me and my grandfather were in fact, related by blood and he adopted me not because I was the one who caught his eye among all the others at the orphanage but due to his guilt for killing my parents.”
With each word that leaves your lips, Seungcheol’s pupils dilate and, ironically, he looks more astounded now than when you confessed to killing Sumin.
For an achingly long moment, heavy silence hangs in the air and you never let your eyes stray from his, patiently waiting for what he has to say.
“How did you find out?” His tone is low.
“Sumin told me.”
You really did not think it was possible for him to look even more bewildered but he does. He abruptly marches towards you and leans forward, asking. “Sumin?”
“Yes,” you sigh, rolling your eyes at his shock.
“I don’t understand—”
“You know,” You cut him off. “I don’t remember my parents so I have never missed them and to some extent, I now understand why my grandfather did what he did. What I don’t understand is why he lied to me, why you all lied to me. And why I had to hear the truth from someone like Sumin. It doesn’t make sense, does it? You all were in the joke and no one once thought how I would feel if I found out.”
“You were not supposed to find out.” His tone is flat and the look he is giving you is enraging; like you have no right to be mad.
“And you were not supposed to find out that I killed your ex-fiance!” You scream.
Seungcheol exhales loudly, rubbing a hand over his face as he looks down at the ground. “Why did Sumin tell you this, ___?” His tone is sharp as if you are being investigated at a police station.
“Does it matter?”
“Of course it does!” He hisses, frustrated. “Why would she go out of her way to tell you that?”
“I found out some of her secrets and I threatened her with them.” You don’t let your eyes stray from his.
“What secrets?” His eyes darken.
You rub a frustrated hand over your forehead while resting the other on your hip. Not this again.
“It's better that you don’t know, Seungcheol.”
“Answer me, ___.” He inhales a sharp breath and grits his teeth, his patience is running thin.
So is yours.
From the pocket of your trousers, you fish out a recorder and toss it over to his table. “Since you want to know so bad, here you go. It has all the answers, the last conversation I had with her and her final moments.”
You see apprehension in his eyes as he watches the little black device sitting on his desk. “After listening to that, you might go back on your word.” You warn. Because the sound of you unlocking the safety of your gun is in there. Because the sound of Sumin’s lifeless body hitting the ground is in there.
“And if you decide to hand me over to the police after this,” You give a nonchalant shrug. “I completely understand. Just don’t destroy the record. There is only one copy and it is the best evidence you will have of this case.”
Seungcheol stands rooted to his spot, looking at you impassively as you close the door behind you.
-
Three days go by and the police do not come and you realize, once again Seungcheol has decided to brush what you did under the rug. It is a fixed feeling, mostly bitter if you are being honest with yourself. What lies ahead of you now is a bleak future where you and Seungcheol will live under one roof with stifling disgust. His friends and family will visit and you will have to pretend to be the happiest couple in front of them.
As you are returning home from work on Tuesday with all these thoughts bridling in your head, you receive a text from an unknown number.
Someone has texted you a location along with a message.
I have your man. If you want him to live, bring me 10 million dollars in this location within the next hour. Come alone or I will slice his head off.
For one moment you think— no, try to convince yourself that you are seeing things wrong and this is only a prank. However, you start to break into a cold sweat when you dial Seungcheol’s number with shaky hands and it goes unanswered. Petrified, you call his secretary next and he picks up on the fifth ring.
“Madam-”
“Where is Seungcheol? I cannot reach him.” You try to keep your voice as stable as possible yet a tremor slips through. Your gut prepares you for the worst when you hear a commotion in the background as his secretary takes a second too long to reply.
“Madam, I am really sorry. We were leaving work when two vans surrounded us on the highway and threw smoke bombs at us. They hit me in the head and took away Mr Choi after knocking him out. But don’t worry madam, the police have been informed—”
You hang up.
Fucking hell.
The first thing you do is dial your secretary, throwing her into a furor as you order her to arrange the money and have it ready in half an hour at your place.
When you reach home, you quickly discard your work clothes and put on a hoodie and sweatpants along with some good running shoes as a disguise. Your next task is to hurry down to your basement where you have stored your grandfather's collection of antic guns. You had it moved here after his death and thank god for that. Picking a long-barreled revolver, you check the chamber before tucking it in your waistband.
Upstairs, your secretary waits with a duffel bag in her hands, struggling to hold the weight. Her face is littered with unsaid questions as you snatch the bag from her hands and storm past her. The weight of the cash hi nders your mobility, making you slower.
“If you say a word about this to anyone else I will gut you. And if you keep your mouth shut and go home like nothing happened, I will triple your salary.” You hiss at Yuna who’s eyes widen hearing the reward.
Firing your Hennessey to life, you press the accelerator hard as you pull your car out of the basement and zoom down the street. The clock on the dashboard says you have exactly twenty-five minutes till your one hour is over and you whisper a silent prayer to whoever is up there for a traffic-free road.
As you near your destination, you realize the location that was sent to you is a small, old two-storeyed storehouse near the seaport, once used to store cargo. Located a little further from the main port, it is a dingy building with cracked walls and missing windows and a backdrop of thick, dense forest, appearing haunted in the darkness of the night.
With a deep inhale, you step out of your car and lock it. A slight shiver runs down your spine as you calculate your odds of rescuing Seungcheol safely. You don’t know who is waiting for you in there and if they even have him with them. Of course, you have a suspect in your mind and if they are alone, it should be easy to tackle them. Still, you make a risky decision.
You call the police.
“Hello, I have a tip about the kidnapping of Choi Seungcheol of the Choi Corporation. I am sending you my location. How long will it take you to get here?
“It will take about 12 minutes for the officers to reach the scene. Are you alone ma'am? Please do not go inside if you—”
You hang up the call and march towards the building carrying the duffel bag. With the reassurance that the police will be here soon, you step inside.
The ground floor is eerily quiet and almost shrouded in complete darkness.
Somewhere nearby, the wolves howl.
The utter lack of light and noise tells you that the first floor is empty so you follow the stairs up to the second floor, illuminated by tube lights hanging very low from the ceiling.
Your cautious steps lead you to a wide, poorly lit hallway on the second floor. However, as you step into the corridor, you see a faint glow of orange hue on your right.
This is it.
Feet moving automatically, your whole body tenses up as you grip the duffel with one hand and keep the other free, hovering over the back of your waist. Unlike the first floor, the construction of the second was left incomplete so at the end of the hallway there are no individual rooms but instead a big one.
And there is Seungcheol.
With his hands and legs tied to a chair, he sits with his head hanging low, his tired frame illuminated by the small fire lit in front of him.
Best of all, there is no one else in the room.
“Seungcheol!” You cry, running straight to him.
He is baffled, gaping at you as you rush over to him, scrambling to untie his hands and legs as fast as possible.
“___? I- I don’t understand…How did you—”
“Hush.” You whisper, untying the last knot to free his leg before standing up to take a look at his face. There is a wound on his head, half-dried blood soaking his hair as your stomach forms knots, worried.
“We need to get you to a hospital.” You whisper, throat dry as you reach behind him to undo his hands.
“What a sweet reunion it is, no?” A familiar voice echoes, halting your action.
You whip your head around and there he stands, the man you suspected.
Sumin’s father, Lee Ryunwoo. You should have taken care of him long ago.
The blood in your veins runs cold as you immediately step in front of Seungcheol to cover him. The man emerges from the shadows, waving a gun in his hand as he orders, “Try to play smart with me and I’ll blow your head off.”
“Why did you kidnap him?” You ask, watching his movements warily as you cover Seungcheol with your frame. “Do you think you can get out of this so easily?”
From behind you, Seungcheol’s quiet voice echoes. “He knows, ___.”
You freeze, immediately understanding what he is referring to.
What? How?
“You are awfully mouthy for a bitch who shot my daughter,” Ryunwoo smirks, stepping closer to you. He presses the barrel of the gun to your throat before pulling it away, flashing you a cruel smirk. You swallow the lump in your throat as your brain frantically thinks of the next move. Maybe calling the police was not the best idea.
“Imagine my surprise when I find that recorder.” You watch cautiously as he walks past you and kneels in front of the duffel back, his gun aimed at you. Using one hand, he opens the zipper, shuffling the cash around as he checks it. “Yes, I had someone break into his office after he started acting dodgy. I knew something was going on.” He pauses to look at Seungcheol. “Everything was going so wonderfully. You were so confident about a lead and then you suddenly claim it was nothing? You should have been more careful, son.” He chuckles with a shake of his head.
You assess the situation, carefully watching his body language. Despite the gun in his hand pointing at you, his eyes are cast downwards, focused on the money.
You realize this might be your only chance.
Ever so carefully, you pull your revolver from your waistband, pointing it just slightly over his arm and pull the trigger.
Your sudden action has both the men confused as the bullet flies a mere half an inch above Ryunwoo’s hand, making him drop his gun and fall on his ass.
“___! Stop!’’ Seungcheol yells from behind you, struggling to free himself from the chair while you step towards Ryunwoo, pointing the gun at his head.
“Where is the recorder?” You ask.
He has the balls to chuckle. “This little thing?” From the breast pocket of his jacket, he slowly pulls out the little black device.
“Hand it over.” You order, stepping closer.
His cackle echoes through the barren room, overpowering Seungcheol’s yells of protest.
“Come and take it.” It is a challenge.
You grit your teeth, popping a vein in your neck. “I could just shoot you right now.”
“Like you shot Sumin?” The smirk does not wipe off his face.
“___, for fucks sake! Don’t!” Seungcheol yells.
You would have gladly taken the shot had the police not already been on their way. Against your will, you decide to play his game. Pointing your gun with one hand, you extend the other, holding your palm open. “Give it. Now.”
The tip of your fingers brush against the device when the police siren is heard. Ryunwoo immediately pulls the device back as he bellows, “You called the cops, you bitch!”
Using his momentary distraction to your advantage, you lunge at him, knocking him down hard on his head and snatching the recorder from his hand.
The next moment someone grabs your arm to pull you off of him and you look up to see Seungcheol. “Cheol! You—”
“The police will be here any second. They will investigate you if you hurt him.” He warns, pulling you towards him. On the floor, Ryunwoo groans, cupping his head and spewing curses at you. Outside, the sirens grow louder as you hear the commotion and the footsteps of the officers entering the building.
“Come,” Seungcheol attempts to guide you away by your shoulders when suddenly, you are dragged down. Ryunwoo’s abrupt pull on your leg makes you fall face down on the ground as the gun slips through your fingers upon impact. Seungcheol tries and fails to grab onto you in time as you are pulled backward by a rough grip. His entire body comes to a complete halt with his eyes widening in fear when he looks behind you, slowly raising his arms in surrender.
At the entrance of the room, the officers crowd, yelling at Ryunwoo to drop his weapon.
That is when you actually feel the cold barrel of his gun pressed to your temple.
Oh fuck.
Exhaling a shaky breath, you turn your head ever so slightly to look at him.
“I am going to blow your brains out and then go to jail, you cunt. How dare you trick me?” he sneers, venom dripping from his tone. His eyes are akin to a madman’s as the warnings of the officers fall deaf to his ears.
He really is going to shoot.
Your eyes wander over to Seungcheol one last time before they fall closed the moment a gun goes off.
There is a ringing in your ears and you realise the right side of your face feels wet.
A couple of seconds pass by before you open your eyes to find Ryunwoo lying on the ground behind you with a bullet hole in his head. The police rush in as Seungcheol tugs you towards him, wrapping his arms around you as you stare at the dead body.
You feel like you are stuck in a trance as everything around you moves in slow motion, your eyesight getting slightly blurry as your heart thumps loudly in your chest. You do not know whether it is relief or trauma but your legs suddenly feel like jelly.
Seungcheol has to call your name multiple times to make you look at him. “___? Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”
You shake your head, blinking a few times to focus your vision. You are still lost in your own head, thinking about how close you were to getting exposed and how you managed to save yourself by a hairsbreadth. “The recorder?’’ You question quietly.
“Don’t worry, I have it.” He wraps his arms around you tighter.
A faint smile of relief comes to your face and you dare to rest your face on Seungcheol’s chest. To your utter relief, he does not oppose you but gently cradles your head.
“Thank you.” You hear him say. Surprised, you look up at his face to be greeted by a shocking sight. There is a beautiful smile on his lips that makes his eyes shine.
“For what?” You croak, suddenly emotional.
“For saving me.”

10 days later
Seungcheol’s best friend Jihoon is getting engaged today.
Clad in a pastel pink blouse and a matching skirt, you silently sit next to your fiance in the car, your eyes trained outside the window. Seungcheol, like most times, does not attempt to break the delicate silence.
It is frustrating, especially because this is how he has been for the past ten days. Silent. As if his ex-father-in-law did not hold a gun to your head and then got killed by the police. As if you did not murder his ex-fiance and the proof of it is in his hands.
The morning after that fateful night, both of you were asked at the police station for your statements. It was a basic procedure before they started uncovering the skeletons in Ryunwoo’s closet; the murders he committed right after he became the CEO of Lee Media to hide his corruption and the money he embezzled. His bankruptcy also came to light along with the millions of dollars of debt he was in and the shady works he did to earn money for it.
Soon after that, the news of Sumin cheating on Seungcheol also came out. Someone anonymously leaked pictures of her and the model she was dating and the public was ruthless with their comments even though Sumin was dead.
After all the news broke, they were the talk of the town. A group of reporters even tried to swarm you at every chance, hoping to get some details from you.
When you met Seungcheol later in the week, he did not bring up the issues at all and instead went about his day as normal, bewildering you. One might think that the news never reached him. He never addressed them and you were too anxious to bring them up, afraid to lose the minimum attention you were getting from him.
Still, your worries have not vanished into thin air. It has been a weird few days and the more time passes, you cannot help but think things will go awry any second and you will fall face down into a nightmare all over again.
The car comes to a halt in front of Jihoon’s house and a valet holds open your door, helping you step out. Seungcheol rounds the car to come next to you. “Come on,” he says, buttoning his suit and stepping forward. Your hands reach for him mindlessly as you stop him by grabbing his hand.
He turns back, a brow raised in confusion.
“Seungcheol.” You state, looking him in the eye.
“What?”
You have a lot to say; so much that the thoughts tangle into intricate knots in your head and provide your lips with nothing. He waits for you to speak and you finally whisper, “Do you still have the recorder?”
The look in his eyes changes as he steps closer to you, holding eye contact. “Why? Do you think I handed it over to the police?” He sounds amused.
“I—” You pause, unsure what to say. It is undeniable that a small part of you has been worrying about that.
A short laughter of amusement comes from his lips before he becomes serious. “I burned it, ___.”
Your eyes widen in astonishment. Parting your lips, you let out a breath of surprise.
“I…I don’t know what to say,” You whisper. “I was scared. You have been so quiet the last few days and—”
“I am trying to put what happened behind me.’’ He states, something foreign flashing in his eyes.
You remain silent, watching his face intently, hoping he can see the gratefulness in your eyes. His gaze is soft, brimming with an emotion you can’t put a name to but constricts your throat and makes your heart soar with hope. “Seungcheol, I—” You are cut off as he presses his lips to yours in a bruising kiss that makes your toes curl. You lose your balance, your body falling against his as you melt in his arms.
A heated look of mischief and desire swims in his eyes when he pulls back to look at you.
“Call me Cheol,” he smirks, gripping your hand tightly by weaving his fingers with yours. With long steps he heads for the entrance, tugging you with him who is now sporting a love-struck grin.
When a villainess loves, she makes sure to get the guy no matter what it takes.

A/N: okay, so that was that. how was it? do lmk your feedback. also, if you have any questions about the characters or anything you are curious about, send me an ask, I'll fill in the blanks for you. what did you think about the ending? i purposefully left it a bit open because i don't see them being all head over heels for e/o (i mean oc is a simp ofc but not cheol). in fact, i imagine a very different ending for them in the long run, lol. and who knows, maybe i will write a part 2 someday, no promises tho. and if you noticed (im sure you did) this one does not have almost any smut. the reason for that was one, i find it extremely hard to write and two, i might write a small smutty epilogue in my patreon depending on how well this fic is received. we'll see. anyways, i'll stop the rant now. stay healthy and happy!

Book Rec
Not many dramas for me to watch (Phone is the sole airing drama I am following), so I've been making up for it by reading a lot.
And I have a book rec:
Long Live Evil by Sarah Rees Brennan - MY LOVE MY LOVE MY LOVE! If you ever want to have strangers stare at you as you cackle in crowded places, this book is for you. I was not particularly interested when I saw the description because I was thinking it was another "grimdark is cool/sociopaths rock" thing which is just not my thing and never was (nothing against it in fiction, just doesn't ping anything for me) but I was stuck at a long layover and the bookstore had it, I flipped and became a goner. I was refusing to put it down even close on no sleep, which shows how good it is.
Anyway, the set up: our FL Rae is a modern 20 year old dying of cancer. She gets offered a chance to live if, upon entering a fantasy series (one that is a favorite of her younger sister, but once she is familiar with through the sister and so has gaps), she obtains a plant that can make anyone healthy etc. She's got nothing to lose so...
The fantasy novel series in question is a dark, gothic gonzo extravaganza with characters who have monikers like The Last Hope, Golden Cobra, the Emperor, the Iron Maid and the blameless' heroine's stepsister, the villainess with the moniker Beauty Dipped in Blood. It is that latter that our heroine transmigrates into - a day before she's set to be executed!
Rae's goal is to survive long enough to be able get the plant - to do that she needs some fast talking and thinking as well a team of her fellow baddies. Will she get the attention of the Emperor, the series' dark, unhinged ML (who in the OG series went all Pedro the Cruel when his true love, the villainess' stepsister died - respect!)? How much will she drag the narrative off-key? (pun! ifkyk) Rae is not interested in romance, friendship, revenge or anything but survival. Yet, as she goes along, these desperate, larger than life, and irretrievably broken characters become more and more real to her.
The reason I love this novel is that it's both very very funny (I was literal when I said I was laughing in public) and very very dark (Rae is dying and has been dying for years - she has so much loss, rage and grief bottled in her and it keeps coming out and coloring everything and she fits very well into that Gothic world because she is just as damaged and desperate as the characters.) The prose is purple when it needs to be - and it fits the narrative perfectly and the characters are somehow complex despite their very larger than life/artificial personas. I am not very far in at all, but characters like the Emer, Rae's desperate, on edge of survival maid (who 100% has a lesbian love line with Lia, the pure heroine - I love ittttttt!), Key, Rae's unhinged, amoral, murder-talented and money-oriented guard (the one spoiler I have is his actual eventual identity and EEE YES PLS) who is drawn in by her feral self, Lia the pure (or not so pure) stepsister, and Marius the Last Hope - the seeming paragon who is so utterly damaged are all so very vivid and great to read about. (Side note - I live too much in danmei land, but Marius x Eric, anyone? Yes yes men are capable of platonic deep friendships blah blah blah.)
There is apparently book 2 coming in the fall this year and I CANNOT WAITTTT!
Sample quote:
Only minor villains had petty flaws like being greedy. Rae gave her minion an approving glance.
"I think we will be friends."
He tilted his head, with the air of a scientist beholding a specimen. "I've never had one of those before. Might be interesting."
"High five," proposed Rae,
Key's smirk tilted smile-ward. "No idea what you're saying."
Rae's hand was already lifted. "Hit my hand."
"How hard?" Key asked obligingly. "Should I break it?"
Rae stared back. "Do not! Tap my palm with your palm. Gently! Gently!"
Key frowned as though gentleness required ferocious concentration.
Next up in book posts: Washington's Lady by Nancy Moser, because the thought of the Father of the Country as a romance novel hero is giving me the best kind of fits and shortcircuits my brain tho not in the way the author intended.

you do historical au right? So how about a Villainess who actually is a regresser but she saw too much hardships in her previous life that this time she's all set on herself (you can add revenge or not if you don't want). A tyrant disguised saw her real self which is extremely kind to general public (she built orphanage, hospital and schools for her people) (she's the heir but got scammed in previous life, so she used all that knowledge to get even more riches with beneficial businesses so she's practically richest aristocrat). She's evil and rude on the looks (because she hates limelight and does all good will anonymously). So yeah. The tyrant is real deal evil and he's obsessed with our Villainess now. Oh dear. What a plight..
Sorry for the request being all over the place, i didn't know how to put it better :(
Yandere! Villain x Regressor! AFAB! Villainess! Reader
Anon, you know how to capture my attention. And the request is comprehensive, don't worry!
Another historical AU for the roster. This time, rather than starting off with the villain, let's start of with the MC/you! (Because most of the time it doesn't really focus on the ML now, does it? Hope you don't mind.)
Yandere! Villain name: Eros
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ac24210154eaab378b93945d0bf3b821/6f7654f52a2db348-21/s540x810/ab882fb4fc26c830d928622680649b9d87636b51.jpg)
You don't remember how you got here, except for dying by a stupid woman who can't aim for jack shit.
You just got home from a grueling day's work. Always getting ahead of yourself and working yourself to the bone just to please your boss who's a major asshat, and loves when his employees curry favors with him.
It's a dog eats dog world, so you curried favors with him.
You're his favorite employee. Always giving you snacks and an extra day for your vacations. But that meant working harder than what's needed. Overtime, going home late, it drained you. But hey, it's worth it.
Yet, this wouldn't happen, and you would still be living like a young princess if it weren't for the damn mistress your fiance, the crown prince, has.
Elysia, a daughter of the baron, spent the night with the crown prince, Yuno. Earning the affection of the prince since...
Actually, you don't remember how Yuno became infatuated with Elysia.
Is the fuck really that good that Yuno neglected his fiancee?
And you, the daughter of the second Ducal household (who's not related to the royal family, of course) was blinded by rage and betrayal that you made Elysia's life a living hell.
Erm, why not the crown prince's too, then?
Remembering your past life made your head hurt. From the cliche love story down to the way you were treated made you scream to the oblivion.
After all, after Yuno figured out how you treated Elysia, he made your family kick you out. Powerless against the royal family, they had no choice but to exile you.
You got employed by your employer by then, an eccentric man who spoke of other worlds called 'Earth' and is bringing 'modern day capitalism' here. Whatever that means. But hey, he developed these things called 'cellphones' that made him skyrocket with money.
He's a weirdo, but at least he's easy to please.
But the bitch Elysia "accidentally" blasted light magic to your way, killing you instead of an assassin. Great.
But, then, you're only the minor villainess. The main villain was someone named Eros. The other Ducal household and your father's rival.
As young as 16, he already conquered the ducal household he's in and then, 6 years later, he had wealth rivalring that of the royal family's. Heck, maybe even surpassing it.
"Hello? Where's the checks and balances of this world?" That's what you usually ask yourself.
You never saw him outright, since he's always been so busy. But you clearly remembered when you're in and out of a coma back then after you got struck with the magic, a war broke out due to him.
Fortunately, you regressed into a baby still, so you could avoid being engaged to Yuno, and being involved with Elysia.
Growing up again with your mature mind was weird. Unlike last life, you weren't a brat, but a proper, cold, and an unattainable standard of what a noble woman should be. Well, if you exclude the coldness and the bitchy attitude sometimes.
In all honesty, your family loved you dearly. A clear contrast from your last life. You're a role model, perfect in every way. Beautiful, smart, talented, and shows clear interest in politics and business.
The previous life, you were only a mouth to feed with a pretty face and a political pawn to integrate yourself into the royal family.
And as usual, you got engaged to the crown prince, much to your dismay.
Yuno was easy to read. He doesn't like clingy women, and he likes the chase. He's dumb, and only knows how to spend money.
"Ah, he's worthless."
What did you saw in him in the previous life, really?
Since you were unattainable to Yuno, he became attached to you. Wanting to conquer you.
And you always returned his advances with a flick of your fan and covering your face with a glare with your sharp eyes.
You're the thorned Rose of the Kingdom. Beautiful, yet prickly. It brought you to the limelight, but also, not. Due to you being closed off, news of you rarely get out.
So in the free time you had, you always disguised yourself with your dark magic and filled up your own coffers with the help of your knowledge of business last life (from your employer.)
You built hospitals, made schooling accessible... You were basically the saintess rather than Elysia.
Oh, did I mention that Elysia, with light magic, was the saintess, and you with dark magic was the prophesied Villainess? It's complicated.
But right now, with Elysia failing to bed Yuno in his crown prince coronation, due to him being only attached to you, you were free to do what you want while thinking of your next plan.
What you didn't know is that a certain pair of crystal blue eyes followed you.
You walked along the street of the outskirts of the Kingdom, inspecting the newly built school.
You just got out of the ducal household and immediately went here after being confronted by Elysia once more, who "accidentally" stumbled into the chateau and into you and Yuno. Can she get more obvious, really?
You never used your dark magic here in the outskirts since you felt safe in the people's arms. They never judged you, nor used you for your money. They're just glad more and more accessible facilities are being erected by the young lady.
While walking around, you got into the councilor's office who's busy with enrolling the children. He's the chief of the town, and is one of the few people who graduated fully back in the capital.
He graciously accepted the position of being the councilor after you approached him, since you genuinely wanted to help the outskirts.
You saw children happily playing around while the parents lined up, excitedly talking to one another.
When they saw you, they immediately curtsied and said hi.
"My lady! Hello!"
G-greetings my lady..."
"Oh my stars! It's the lady!"
"Look over here, my lady!"
You giggled and decided to mingle with them more, talking about mundane things in life and what other facilities can you put here.
"Okay, so a shopping center, huh? Okay, that's noted. Also, I think a gymnasium would work well also, so that there will be a place where all of you can have meetings, and also have children play."
They all excitedly nodded and bid you goodbye as you went out.
You felt like yourself here in the outskirts.
Maybe you can convince your father to give you this part of the territory, and your brother can manage the main household?
Your thoughts were interrupted by children pulling your skirt to play, cheekily grinning and playfully pushing a ball up to your arms. You grinned and chased them around, roaring loudly like a monster and pretending like you're a dragon.
The giggles and screams of delight of the children filled the lively streets, along the chatter of the townspeople.
"Sir? Are you okay? What are you looking at?"
"..."
Eros' eyes widened, then softened as he saw you, chasing the children around, playing with them and not minding the dirt clinging to your outfit.
He gulped, suddenly feeling his heartrate pick up as he cleared his throat. Red flushed his cheeks, as foreign yet also the familiar feeling of infatuation filled his heart.
The noise that surrounded him faded into the background, and somehow, everything seems so bright and colorful. All he could see is you, and you, and you...
You...
You...
Beautiful, thorned you.
Eros.
The name itself sends shiver down the spine of people.
Of fear? Love? Or arousal?
He's a man of few words, only letting his actions talk to other people.
Such an otherwordly beauty like him garnered unwanted attention since he was a child.
Other than being extremely handsome, he's also very talented with politics and business, also with physical activities like horse riding and hunting.
Due to this, his mother developed a twisted inferiority complex, and also an almost incestious relationship with him.
She always hurled words that hurt his soul and emotions.
Then she'll hug him while saying sorry.
This cycle would continue on and on until he's 16.
It was supposed to be a joyous day, not until his mother forced himself on him.
Disgust, fear, and rage filled his body that time, and all he remembered is awakening his dark magic and consuming his mother.
After that, he was knocked out cold.
When he woke up, he remembered his past life on Earth.
He's a business man of such a high position, CEO.
He clawed out of his way from poverty. Stealing, investing, selling, he did everything just to get out of the clutches of being a plebian.
And, when he struck gold when his stationery business thrived, his genius made it possible for him to talk to investors and convinced them to invest in his work.
God, he's rich.
And once he reached the age of 24, he's a rich man.
Then he died due to being assassinated by his rival.
With now his previous life in his roster, he became a formidable business man. Eccentric even.
By some weird cheat, he developed cellphones.
Something so revolutionary was first met with skepticism, but it boomed in popularity when his friend, the crown prince Yuno, bought and used it.
it was weird, really. Yuno approached him to employ his ex fiancee in his company and take care of her.
Eros, who didn't mind, employed you.
Sweet, lovable you.
It was funny seeing you struggle to curry favor with him. Not used being the one who had to try to get close with him. The way you struggled to hide a frown when he mentioned over time, the way you hide your disdain when he talks about extra work...
God, you're so cute.
He spoiled you in the best he could do. Extra vacation days, snacks, all he could do without being too obvious.
Then you died.
You... Died.
By the hands of his friend, well, ex-friend's mistress.
Elysia.
That damn bitch doesn't know her place.
Then and there, his eccentricity died down, and all he knows is revenge back then.
You were in and out of coma, and seeing you swim between life and death made his heart roar out in pain.
He felt so helpless seeing you pale and vegetative, something that wasn't you.
So, with a soft promise leaving his lips, he waged war in your honor.
He fought blood, sweat, and tears in your name.
All he could think is you.
All he could see is you.
And as he ignored Yuno's plea, he beheaded Elysia.
The damn bitch raised the notion that dark magic users are evil, despite dark magic being only an another element.
She turned the tides on you.
Why should she live?
Yuno also. He betrayed you.
Once the royal family was dead, he brought your comatose body to the throne, and killed himself with you at the throne.
He made you ingest poison, something that doesn't cause pain to your already pained body.
Meanwhile, he killed himself by striking a sword down to his chest, and to his heart. The very same heart that loved you dearly.
Then he woke up,
a child again.
Back in time.
Getting away from the busy bustle of the ball, you got out to the garden and sighed. Letting the cold air bite into your skin.
Dread filled your heart as you realized once more that Elysia was nowhere to be found, and so did Yuno.
Your nerves got to you and you left the scene, overthinking the worse of the worst.
Did Elysia actually bed Yuno successfully?
Albeit just a bit late?
You covered your mouth, shaking dreadfully. The pain of your last life was getting to you once more. Trauma trembling you to the core.
"My Lady? Are you okay?"
A deep voice broke you out of your reverie. Something so silky, smooth, and familiar.
You turned around, your heart pounding as you saw your employer, Eros. He's dressed in noble clothes, gold, black, and blue.
He looks more uptight and strict this time around. What happened? Why does he look like that?
You never connected the dots, since you thought your employer and Eros were two different people.
But this?
Your heart trembled.
"G-greetings, your lordship." You curtsied, fighting back a frown just like how you did with him last life.
"You're still the same as ever."
"What is it?"
"Oh nothing." Eros waved his hand.
This life, Eros was more brutal than the previous life. He exposed his mother, a pedophile who touched him and stole money from the household, letting her get beheaded by a rusty axe in the middle of the colosseum. After that, he joined the interkingdom war, and won it much earlier than before.
He's basically a warlord. A tyrant to his territory who imposed such strict rules that you doubted yourself if this was the same Eros you knew.
You both silently stood in front of each other before he took off his coat and gently draped it on your shoulders.
"It's cold out here, my lady." He whispered. His long eyelashes fluttering as he blinked.
He inhaled your scent, his lips trembling.
He missed you so much.
His precious rose.
He gently brought your hand to his lips, kissing it softly and lingering there, with his eyes screaming obsession.
His grip was strong yet also loving.
It made you blush.
"My Lady, if my friend, Yuno, hurt you, approach me."
Your eyes widened.
"Approach you?"
Eros smiled. His handsome face blinding you momentarily.
"Yes, i'll help you take revenge."
Eros eyes swiftly looked at the balcony up above.
"Like this."
Eros swiftly dipped you and kissed your lips.
God, you tasted so divine upon his lips.
His tongue delved into your mouth, sweeping and tangling with your much more timid ones. He cupped your cheeks, bringing you impossibly closer to him.
His eyes were glaring at Yuno back at the balcony, who was naked on their bottom half with Elysia, shielding you from the scene.
Yuno's eyes widened, and he hastily dressed up, his eyes boring into Eros', and you.
This life, he'll protect you from pain.
He'll protect you from Yuno and Elysia.
He'll burn down the ground for you.
Just say the word.

Chapter 2: What do we do now?
Part 2
...In the case of some protagonists of “another world” there was always two ways the story would go (if you want to squeeze out a lot of the details): A) The Protagonist(s) would go and find a way to find a way to go back home: this option has some variables, going back home was the reward the protagonist(s) would get after saving the world, but in the webtoons she used to read, the only way for a protagonist reincarnated as villains to go back home was through a complicated series of events of them becoming the True villainess and making sure the story played as it should, or by getting killed in dramatic fashion, or the previous 2 points ocurring at the same time. B) The Protagonist accept their new lives: This would happened to a couple of different protagonists, the type of re-born literally waking up in the bodies of the newly-reborn villain, or to those who would go back in time before things went bad for them.
But, Chae-won knew that none of those conditions did NOT applied to her or her current situation. Larimár was kicked off the story early so she has no relevance for any future plot points in the story, and the only one that sort of has a connection to her is one battle, a battle that fights Count Gael; Basically, Larimár dies when she reaches 15, or it could be 16, OkkeBokki didn't always say how much time has passed, her body could not simply keep going after being in a coma for so long, so she dies (yes, just that bluntly again), Count Gael falls into a spiral of rage and grief, and he pushes all those emotions and energy to kill the hero, Abelardo Herrero Torres. Chae-won doesn't remember all the details clearly but she knows that particular arc was short and it was mostly filler, or rather... a poor attempt to tie the loose end that was Larimar's story, with the only relevant thing to come from it being that Abelardo managed kill the Infamous “Gael the scourge” earning him (yet) another title of the many he got, and some books on sword fighting written by the count... ... So yeah, it was a very irrelevant arc, which Larimár had no real participation in it. But, because Chae-won woke Larimár's body up, that arc is not gonna happend. Which circles her back to the beginning of her problem. Now what?. What should she do? Chae-won found herself inside the body of someone who literally had no story left for her to tell, not to mention, she was just inserted inside the body of someone else, so where was now Larimár?.
“Ok, maybe i'm seeing this all wrong... Shouldn't I try to get back home?” She asked herself out loud, whispering. She looked at the pile of stones on her lap then looked at the ones that were left unpicked near the water, slowly shifting her gaze to the horizon, the sun was slowly rising behind her, making the sky shift from a dark blue to an orange thanks to it's arrival. “... I know the answer is “no” ” She sighed a bit defeated because she remembered a couple of unpleasant things: Her life in korea wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Chae-won since the moment she had enough understanding of the world around her, she knew she was a burden to her family. Korea is a place where people have to be overly ambitious in all aspects of life, from your appearance to how much money you have, which college you study and even your career, which meant not everyone can have the same opportunities because people will always have to fight for it which meant not everyone can fit into that mold and be able to pull said fight... Chae-won has always known she could be never any of those things, despite how many of hours of study she did her grades were always less than ideal, her social skills were also abysmal, so making friends was always something she knew was beyond her reach, and... well she wasn't ugly by her definition, but she wasn't pretty either. Her short comings were always something of a sore spot for her family, one that lead to discussions and arguments. One argument in particular was the talk about money, while they had money to eat and have a roof over their heads, the Seok family would often talk about expenses, and how expensive everything was.
But, if someone had better chances at being a well fit member of society that would be Chae-won's older brother, Seok Do-yun. He was smart, sociable and all around cool guy, heck! He even got himself a girlfriend before her accident, their relationship might have never been the closest but Chae-won respected her brother a lot, even when he made too many stupid jokes about throwing away her rock collection... Chae-won sat in the sand, finally coming to her own conclusion: The Seok Family is better off without her, even if she managed to return back home, nobody would benefit from that. She has no friends so nobody would miss her, her family might miss her but it's better for them having a dead daughter than having to bear the shame of having her as a daughter and because there's one person less in the family all the resources can go to her brother's education!
Thus! Her death benefits them!
Ammolite, for those who don't know, is a type gem, specifically one that grows on the fossilized shells of a extinct animal called Ammonoids. These shells were similar to nacre (Mother of pearl), with the clear detail that these guys have been fossilized for eons and that process gave them an opalized look. Chae-won was doing her best to not jump and touch the man's shell, even if the shell was a bit dull, as the rock-nerd that she is, she was bursting with excitement. “Sorry abou' that, lass” the gentleman says, offering a hand to help her sit back up “Didn' mean to interrup' ye outloud thinkin' ”. “No, no! I'm sorry about the screaming sir... I just never thought I'd be finding someone around here...” She replies, taking the man's hand. “Well then that means ye're careless! But that's the fault in bein young” He say “Even if 'his is yer daddy's plot, ye shoul' always be on the look out for strangers ” “... Doesn't that include you?” Chae-won retorts. “Hah! Luckly for ye, no” He explains “I work for yer dad, in fact he asked me to be here”.
“Huh?...Wait, how did he know I was here?” She asks, confused. “... Seriously lassie?” The old man says, resting his chin on top of his hand “Yer dad told me all about yer shenanigans, it doesn' take a genius to see that ye been itchin' to go out of the house”. Chae-won can't help but blush, she was found out. “I mean, the man has bee' dealin' with pirates for, I don't know, 20-somethin' years? He knew ye were up to something when somethings were missing around his house” He explained “Not to mentio', ye didn't sneaked well enough as much as you thought you did”. “Hey! Now that's mean!” Chae-won protests “Besides, I was getting tired of-!” She wanted explain herself but then stopped herself, either by embarrassment or because she noticed she began to sound disrespectful towards an elder. “... Yer dad figured that too. He could see you were getting frustrated abou' the whole situation, althou' we all though' that as a young lady from the capital ye would be used to being, you know, served?” “...” Chae-won found herself unsure of how to reply. Should she reply as herself? Or as Larimár?. “Well, regardless of yer reasons. Ye should know that yer dad is just worried about ye, lass.” The old man explains “He could tell ye just were getting frustrated about being locked inside, so he let ye have yer way, figuring out that ye just needed some time fer yerself. But, he placed some people to keep tabs on ye...”
“Like you?”. She asks. “Yes, like me” He laughs at how quick she gets things ”Funny thing is, he expected that you'd want to go back home to yer mother” “...My mother?” “Aye! He figured ye'd want to go back to her, he said you used to be very attached to her back in the day...” The old man was about to continue explaining, but then stopped, when he noticed that she was frowning “...Did ye even wanted to go back home to her?” Chae-won thought about it, she found herself at a crossroad again. From the original story, very little was said about Larimár's mother, but the few things that was said was never good nor it gave a whole picture, all that people knew for sure was that, Larimár's mother was scheming woman who had a bad taste in men and an extrodinary hatred for her ex-husband, Count Gael, so... not the most stable home life. “... I wanted to go outside without having someone being after me” Chae-won explains “I didn't even thought about going back to my mother”.
The older gentleman scratches his head. He could tell he made the situation award, but that's the fault of being old, you become a bit shameless with time. “Ye were asking abou' what should ye do now, didn' cha?” He asks. “...yes” Chae-won replies.
“Well, as I said before, ye could do whatever ye want” He explains. Chae-won at first tries to hold herself back, but she kinda just snaps back “That's a vague answer... I wouldn't have this question if I did know! I don't have any plans and any plan I had, I forgot them a long time ago”. Most protagonists of “transported to another world” stories have goals, flags posts, things to either achieve or to avoid, and she had none of those. Larimár was supposed to stay in a coma and die so she had no plans nor goals to reach, and Seok Chae-won had neither, not in this world or her previous one. She felt like crying, but crying won't solve anything.
So, what now?. “Tell me Lass, did you had a grand plan when you walked out the house?” The old man asks.
“Huh...? Um, not really?” Chae-won replies, as herself. “I just... I just wanted to by myself, it was really overwhelming having people either trying to stop me, sitting me down, or getting things for me, then I saw the path leading to the beach and I went here because I never been to the ocean...” “So, you had a plan, it changed but, ye had one” He says smiling pointing at her. “Well... yeah, I even went to sleep earlier to wake up before anyone else...” She explains, not understanding where the conversation was going. “And regardless where you ended up at, ye got what ye wanted, which was a moment for yerself, right?” “I did, yeah...” “So, now what would ye like to do?” He asks. “I... I don't know” She says, feeling shy. “Come on, not even somethin' small?” He says, giving her the floor to be sincere. “... If I'm honest I'd like a haircut” She replies with honestly. Her reply makes Mr.Ammolite laugh out loud. This continues in Part 3.

the princess of sylph (ongoing; self-publishing): plot-heavy fantasy yuri between a bereaved princess with the aura of a thousand sad hamsters and a persistent nun whose silliness conceals a deep well of trauma. gushed about it plenty here. i recommend starting with the serialized version, the proceeding to the twitter version + extras. cw: blood, violence, dismemberment (nothing too graphic, more standard monster-fighting fare).
i love amy (completed): school loner strikes an unlikely friendship with the girl known (and feared) for her violent tendencies and single-minded obsession with the school prince. cute but striking and skilled art with a surprisingly nuanced handling of trauma and neurodivergence. cw: attempted child murder, animal death (non-graphic). there are also depictions of standard yandere fare (kidnapping, torture basements) but they're always presented comedically.
i see you, aizawa-san! (ongoing): girl who steadfastly pretends not to see ghosts meets one she just can't seem to ignore: a deceased classmate and former j-pop idol, who has taken to haunting their classroom. ft. art that harkens back to classic shoujo and a supernatural mystery centred on the relationship between the two leads--that one of them can't seem to remember. cw: blood, body horror.
school zone girls (on hiatus): slice of life yuri comedy ft. a massive interconnected web of girls spanning at least three schools. it juggles gut-busting comedy with genuine heartfelt moments of character growth and connection and expresses it all through a solid, dynamic art style. the sprawling cast also makes for incredible outsider pov moments that lets us really appreciate how far some characters have gotten. this genuinely motivated me to revamp how i approached ensemble casts for my ocs.
brides of iberis (completed): wedding planner unenthusiastic about her engagement falls in love with a bride she's taken as a client. bittersweet but deeply loving; and so compassionate to each and every character, even the men the female leads have relationships with. cw: infidelity.
destroy it all and love me in hell! (ongoing): model student finds her miserable, tightly controlled life unraveling after being blackmailed by the class truant into indulging her ugliest impulses. toxic yuri extravaganza eleganza between two girls desperate for escape and the catharsis of fucking! shit! up!!! also hits that sweet sweet "love triangle as a conflict of ideals" beat. cw: blackmail, coercion, bullying, violence, emotional abuse, physical abuse, verbal abuse, adult/minor relationship.
yuri is forbidden for the yuri otaku (completed): passionate himejoshi enrolls in an all-girls private school to observe class s yuri in action, but never to engage in it herself--at least, until a misunderstanding wins her the resident gyaru's heart. a surprisingly poignant exploration of being queer in a repressive society and experiencing your queerness through the safety of unobtainable fantasy.
the superstar idol crushes on me today too (ongoing): failed idol-slash-middling radio personality finds an unwanted superfan in the country's biggest superstar. explores the merit of pursuing your artistic passions in the face of repeated failure, and what makes an emotional anchor in the fraught seas of showbiz. they are also just so so funny. what if i emphatically declare you my rival in show business but you've been in love with me since you saw me in a cooking show as a child actor and you take any excuse to spend time with me and have my attention with blinding enthusiasm
normality and monsters (ongoing): outcast weirdo witnesses the class idol devour their homeroom teacher in one bite and begs to be trained in the art of appearing normal. the art is snappy and charismatic, the monster design is properly grotesque, and the friendship of convenience between the two leads teeters between overcoming the monster's nature and just being a prelude to the monster acquiring a new meatsuit. cw: blood, gore, death, body horror.
a monster wants to eat me (ongoing): suicidal girl meets carnivore mermaid who promises to eat her if she develops a desire to live. it's been a while since i read this one, but the monster designs are once again sick as fuck and the drama of being cared for by a creature that finds you tantalizing is sooo juicy. cw: suicidal ideation, blood, gore, violence, body horror.
liar satsuki can see death (completed): high schooler who can see corpses before the death occurs strives to save as many lives as possible despite being branded a liar by the entire student body. this and ryouko's other manga, a walk to death, are pretty banging declarations on the value of living ironically (or maybe aptly) wrapped in so much death. blanket cw for blood, gore and death bc i tell you every mini-arc somebody dies in a fun new way and we'd be here all day if we listed them out.
anthology:
i'm the villainess but i'm being captured by the heroine?!: an anthology featuring heroines of otome games swerving hard and sweeping the villainess off her feet. i am such a sucker for villainess yuri. mean women forever. my favourite chapters are vol. 1 ch.1 and vol. 2 chs. 1 and 4.
honourable mentions:
my idol sits the next desk over! (completed): loner idol otaku ends up deskmates with her oshi and between jealous sabotage from a rival stan and the herculean task of acting normal around your fave, lands herself in the first and closest friend group of her life. one girl does explicitly have romantic feelings for another girl, but i bumped it down here because it isn't explored to the extent it could have been. it felt like it was setting up a slow burn only to end abruptly. do not recommend if you want a love story, do recommend if you want lonely people forging deep and enduring bonds of friendship.
the one within the villainess (ongoing): the villainess of an otome game reawakens for her condemnation and sets off on a path of vengeance for the sake of the beloved transmigrator who's occupied her body for years. it's ostensibly het, but to hear the way that the villainess speaks of her transmigrator, the first person to love her wholeheartedly and wish for her happiness and so inadvertently prevent her from becoming the hollow bitter woman she originally grew into...... like. that is yuri. like what if i knew your life in its entirety and loved you for it and i found myself in the position to give you the happiness i always wished for you to have. what if we wrote fix-it fic for each other on the fabric of the universe. what if we never even had a conversation but we knew each other the best and loved each other most. and we were both girls. do you understand why i'm insane about them. cw: blood, gore, violence.
#asks#manga#manga recommendations#yuri#please feel free to tell me if i missed any cws since i'm not usually someone who needs them#the superstar idol is like mayakuro if the rivalry was one-sided and maya was twice as open abt her claudine obsession#as i'm answering this i realize quite a bit has piled up in my inbox. i will. get to that#i waffled abt adding otherside picnic but i figured it's got a decent presence. but if u haven't heard of it and u like supernatural yuri#others i didn't add are: office romance ayaka loves hiroko; highschool makeover romance useless princesses (too long since i read it);#genderbender boyfriend sometimes girlfriend (too few chs out to judge how it handles gender n sexuality but rlly cute getting together);#highschool makeover romance 2 i was confessed to by my beautiful oshi#please tell me if you read any of these n what you think! i'd love to chat n i can't keep bombarding my one friend who'll listen#mine

Why do you keep reblogging art of Toga naked? I know nudity isn't inherently sexual and it is censored, but it still it feels weird and gross to make art of a minor like that.
I don’t know how else to explain that her being naked but censored is nonsexual nudity and part of her story and overarching character… yes when she transforms back after using her quirk she’s naked but it’s never really sexualized and it feels more primal and animalistic and bare. Like we know Horikoshi is capable of drawing women provocatively partially nude, but the intent with toga in these scenes is so so different. So I think fanart with the same context and vibe is fine??? These panels are the ones that really do it for me.

She’s not posed up like a “sexy” villainess. She’s hunched over and angry. She has tummy rolls. But the important part of the art I retweeted is that she can be this bare aspect of herself- be vulnerable- with Ochako and feel safe.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/793aee731ad3e691b371c645c47c1723/eae141ac61920289-df/s540x810/7f460c41968311b5ed3eccfccf872e44159935d1.jpg)
I don’t think any part of this art is sexual.

Interview with Michiro Ueyama – Mangaka of From Bureaucrat to Villainess
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7832453198b27354d6dd5781c0268f65/be933e99d01c805d-61/s540x810/10c7abe8957f1e8d826d9e6fd24a1df5b1f344d6.jpg)
----
What I’m writing here isn’t a word-for-word translation of the interview. I just jotted down some cool stuff about the manga and the mangaka that I got from reading the interview using MTL. Heads up: there’s a minor spoiler near the end!
• Akuyaku Reijo Tensei Ojisan (From Bureaucrat to Villainess) is a manga by Michiro Ueyama and it's still on going. It actually started as a short comic on Twitter, where it got 160k likes, which led to it being serialized pretty much right away.
• Ueyama said Kenzaburo’s "old man" personality comes from his own experiences and memories, but Kenzaburo isn’t based on him. He’s more like Ueyama’s idea of the "ideal uncle"
• Kenzaburo’s design is based on what men in their 50s looked like when Ueyama was a kid in the 1970s
• To figure out what stories younger readers might like, Ueyama checked out a bunch of Isekai manga—not just the "villainess" type
• A lot of Isekai stories he read had a pretty dark vibe. He thinks that’s because most Isekai stories are about being super overpowered or having cheat abilities, which gets repetitive after a while
• Ueyama became interested in "villainess" stories because of their polite tone and beautiful art styles. He felt they had "soothing" vibes that made it easy to get into the story
• Michiro Ueyama: "In manga aimed at younger audiences, older men are usually the bad guys—creepy (sexually harassing teenagers), bullying, or just plain awful. But as an older guy myself, I know plenty of decent older men out there. I wanted to show more of those kinds of respectable adults."
• SPOILER: Ueyama plans to give the story a happy ending. He feels it wouldn’t be right for Kenzaburo to die and leave his wife and daughter behind
• He also finds it hard to write revenge-type stories where characters get what’s coming to them. He thinks Tensei Ojisan is so well-liked because people are tired of seeing negativity in real life and don’t want to see it in their entertainment either
• Ueyama hopes that Tensei Ojisan can be enjoyed by people who don’t usually read Isekai or villainess stories and maybe even get them into the genre
• Some Isekai villainess stories with "healing" vibes recommended by Michiro Ueyama:
1. My Next Life as a Villainess
2. Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte
3. The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior

wanting more ; miguel o'hara x reader
a/n: I did it!! Heavily debated on posting this or the fluff I had in mind but this plagued my mind like crazy. S/O TO MY PRECIOUS @kirbyskisses-main FOR HELPING ME WITH THE SPANISH BIT. I wouldn't dare making this without their help 🤧💗
warnings: implied s~mut (minors DNI!), possessive!Miguel, dirty talking, one (1) spank
» fancy reading something new? check out my m.list!
Melting at the thought of Miguel holding you by the waist, your back against his chest as you both face the wide bedroom mirror. He has his face in your neck.
Your intoxicating scent, a whiff like no other, giving him an adrenaline rush thanks to his advanced sense of smell.
"Tú eres preciosa." He cooed, peppering kisses on your shoulder.
You want to shy away, but his groans would turn into growls the second he knows you're even thinking about looking away from this wonderful sight of debauchery.
Away from his intense red eyes as he expressed his insatiable hunger for you.
The best thing you could do was look back through half-lidded eyes.
He wants you to look at him in the eye, watch him savour your body but he'll let you off the hook.
For now.
It's hard to believe you were the villainess who never once failed instilling fear in the hearts of citizens, now a part of the Spider Society and one of the few members without Spider powers.
Yet, here you were, nothing more than a sweet whimpering mess in the arms of what had to be the most hard-bitten head of the society, now letting you know how much he loves you, how much he yearns for you...
How much he needs you.
His white sweater looked enormous on you, the turtleneck only looked like a wide collar, letting Miguel have a peek of what was underneath—what was essentially his.
The self-consciousness you have over your body be damned, if your legs are out, he is done for. It is on sight.
"Show me," He groaned in your ear, nipping and lightly scraping your neck with his fangs, "Show me what's mine."
You had a feeling of what he was referring to and reached for the collar, pulling them down to your cleavage with a shaky hand and revealing the hickies and lovebites he had left this morning.
Just before he let you leave for a mission.
He hummed in approval, raising one of his hands to your collarbone to trace the marks he unabashedly left on you. He would've done more, he would've killed for a couple more minutes just to feel your tight hole milking his cock or even clenching on his thick fingers, but no.
Duty had to call him.
But it didn't matter, not anymore, not when you were right here at his mercy. His other hand ran up your side slowly, squeezing the flesh of your thighs before sliding the hem of his sweater up over your breasts.
"I want you leave this sweater on when you ride my cock, cariño," He rasped, his voice going deeper than you thought was possible before drawing a whine out of you as he bucked his hips against your ass, "I want you to hold it up, let me watch your tits bounce everytime time your force me in."
You shuddered at the very though of his girth.
The hand he had tracing your collarbone suddenly shot up to hold your chin, squeezing your cheeks a little as he continued. You could see the slight upturn of his lips as you arched your back.
"And if you ever let it drop, even just a little over your nipples," There was a dangerous lilt in his tone, only to draw out a high-pitched scream as he suddenly slapped your left ass cheek. The unmistakable 'smack!' echoing off the walls of your bedroom. He chuckled.
"Well, you'll see."

I have a request for the villainess AU. For Ace and Deuce, what if it was a love triangle between the MC? I just can’t imagine them being separated because them fighting over the Mc is much funnier!
❋ Being Reincarnated into a New World as the Bad Guy ❋
↳ Love Triangle scenario(?)
feat: Ace and Deuce
genre: humour, budding romance, friends-to-something more?
note: part of the “Reincarnated into a New World as the Bad Guy” series or the Villain/ess au, part of the 2.7k followers event, references to other villain/ess au works (specifically Riddle ver.), Ace + Deuce + reader are old enough to drink, no pronouns used with reader, minor mention of death
I don’t usually do the love triangle trope because real life ones hurt alot and it brings up some bad memories, but I’ll consider it for this, just for y’all~ I genuinely tried but rather than a love triangle, I may have accidentally created a… (seriously was not my intention)
Villain/ess au Series Masterlist

Before the oath of the sword, the three of you made an oath of your own. One of unquestioned trust and camaraderie. No matter where the string of fate would take either of you, the promise made one drunken night between you, Ace, and Deuce was stronger.
That night was fuelled with unrestrained emotions, with shouting and tears, most coming from you. Especially when you awoke one day with strange visions flooded your dreams, vivid images that spoke of a horrible future for you.
Memories of a strange novel, one that eerily resembles your current world down to each royal family member and even your friends’ lives. But while a hero’s glory awaits your dearest ones, you were left as a tragic minor antagonist.
A mere childhood friend of Ace and Deuce, you became jealous of a former baron’s daughter suddenly turned Queen when she grew close to your friends as her knight escorts. You turned to petty acts in response, spewing nasty rumours among the townfolks of the new Queen but like an angelic protagonist, she revealed your misdeeds but forgave you for your childish taunts. Nevertheless, you lost the respect of your only friends and you were left behind.
But despite the Queen’s pardon, King Riddle heard of your disgraceful behaviour against his beloved and called for your immediate execution, which became the final push for Ace and Deuce to join in the Queen’s rebellion against her own tyrannical husband. Because that’s all you were, a mere catalyst for the story to continue on.
You couldn’t imagine yourself turning into a cliche bully and admittedly, the idea of your untimely demise left you shaking in fear on occasion. But the worst of your premonitory dreams was the predicted end of your friendship.
The looks of disgust and disappointment that painted Ace’s and Deuce’s face seared into your mind, your heart shattering like glass at their wishes to never see you again. The fear of abandonment stings you like a crack in your heart which never healed, it scared you to the point that the moment you saw them happily enjoying the night, you drunkenly cried out.
“I love you so much, please don’t leave me.”
Unceremoniously, your body slumped onto the tavern’s table as you blacked out into an alcoholic slumber. How evil of you, conveniently unable to explain what you meant by your slurred confession, or to whom you were referring to.
Ace and Deuce were visibly distracted during their knight training the morning after, one of the few times that they must separate from you. Your words looping over and over in their heads like an endless echo. Your voice pleaded so sincerely with tears cascading down your cheeks.
“What should we do, Ace?” Deuce broke the awkward silence during their water break, finally taking a step to mention the elephant in the room. Your words that resembled a wistful confession struck him with worry (and a hint of budding hope). But unlike him, Ace was quick to look for possible excuses for your actions.
“Don’t be dumb. It was probably just the alcohol talking. Don’t you remember how much we all drank?” The reddish hue of Ace’s cheeks however betrayed his true emotions. In truth, he was just as frazzled by your words as Deuce was. He kept trying to convince himself that you meant nothing by it, to not get his hopes up. But the little devil on his shoulder whispers in his ear, “but what if you did mean something by it?”
Since then, you felt that your time spent with the duo increased since your last outing. Instead of staying back in the knight’s barracks right after training, Ace and Deuce visited your hometown more often that was not the most convenient travel destination. You felt at least one pair of eyes, either sea blue or rose red or both, watching you before turning away when you tried to catch their gaze.
But it seems that some people did noticed something different with the two young men, specifically their family. Deuce’s mother would smile knowingly at you whenever you drop by to offer some assistance in her business, occasionally mentioning how much her son has grown. Funnily enough, Ace’s older brother mentioned something similar about the redhead, though it was more laced with a teasing tone than one of filial affection.
But you weren’t one to look a gift horse in the mouth. You enjoyed the frequent visits of your best friends, especially knowing they will be even busier when the announcement of a new royal member would take your precious moments with them. Rumours were spread about the town of a mysterious figure locked in a tower which were not part of your memories, but your wary heart kept you mindful of the possible news regarding the imperial family.
Your worries intensified when Ace and Deuce announced their new task once dawn breaks, they were to escort the newest addition to the royal family back to the palace. In an attempt to quell your unease, you made an embarrassing request.
“You want to do what?” A bright red hue on Deuce’s face heavily contrasted with his raven blue hair, but you were no position to tease him as you could assume that your embarrassed complexion was no better. “Y-You mean…you…and us…”
The three of you lost track of time chatting and goofing off in your quarters and didn’t realize how the sun has long gone to rest for the night. Instead of returning to their own home, you asked if the two knights were willing to stay over the night, like in your younger days. Back when you three were more used to wooden swords than ones of steel, when your only worry was if your parents were going to cook your favourites that night.
Back when you three shared the same bed together.
“It’s not that crazy of a request…” you pouted but you supposed it was rather absurd to ask your friends, who old enough to be considered men, something so childish. Perhaps those carefree days are truly long gone.
“I’m not opposed to it” Ace gave his signature cheeky smile as he naturally wrapped his arm around your shoulder, slightly leaning his weight onto you. “If you just can’t help but miss our company, we can have a good ol’ slumber party. Just like old times~”
You’re starting to reconsider your request.
But Ace wasn’t done. “Well, it’s not exactly like old times. We’re definitely bigger than back when we were kids”
The redhead was obviously right. The three of you were nothing like the tiny versions of you in the past, and your best friends have certainly bulked up since they started their journey into knighthood. You tried your best but you couldn’t help but gaze in appreciation of the hard work the two of them did to build the stamina and muscles to protect their kingdom, respectfully of course.
“I doubt that all three of us can fit on your teeny little bed.” the scarlet-eyed knight exaggerated his point by squinting his fingers to describe your bed. “I guess Deucey’s just gonna have to go home for tonight.”
“Hey, wait a minute! Why me?!” Deuce snapped out from his flustered daze to glare at Ace, pulling his shaggy-haired companion by the neck of his shirt. “Who are you to tell me what to do?”
Ace remained unperturbed, too used to the blunette’s burst of anger “It’s nothing personal, buddy. But you grind your teeth real loud at night. How is any of us gonna get any sleep?”
“Well you’re a pain to wake up in the morning!” Deuce angrily countered. “Don’t make it our problem to get your ass up tomorrow.”
You watched your best friends bicker and argue, as if you didn’t already know of their terrible sleeping habits. Sure, Deuce grinds his teeth but you always tried to gently soothe his jaw hoping to relax him. Ace may sleep like the dead but his cute little pout every time he finally wakes up makes the effort all worth it to you.
They were idiots, but they were your idiots.
“Will you both stop fighting already?” Ace and Deuce immediately paused as your voice caught their attention, like it always does. “No one’s gotta leave. My bed is not that small, you know?”
To prove your point, you took each of the boy’s hand and led them without issue. For someone as tall and built as them, they were so easy to pull and push as you please. Carefully, you pressed your hands against their chest to push them backwards onto your bed. You then crawled onto the bed yourself between Ace and Deuce, the men automatically shifting their bodies to make space for you.
Satisfied, you laid onto your back and you took the hand of both men, each of your hand snuggly holding their warm, calloused ones. You smiled brightly at the fuzzy feelings of nostalgia bubbling in you, pressing your joining hands to your chest, atop of your beating heart.
“See, no one needs to leave.” your bright eyes looked up to your favourite people, cheeky joy evident in your gaze.
A rare occurrence, the two chatty troublemakers were left speechless. In their defence, they were too busy trying to contain the burst of happiness in their hearts to reply back to you, barely pushing the redness of their cheeks at bay.

Manhwas except the villainess is the protagonist part 2: The former FL
Groundhog Duchess. Edith
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3299cadb162d0aeabf09f40c498d5446/60410d9cfbb2a114-49/s540x810/df074cee254394f715a6b3b78b0aca75e58ef397.jpg)
By the time the Edith we know and love shows up, Rhyse has already been suffering from the groundhog effect 12 times now. She's already on guard about Edith and refuses to trust her thinking that she'll just be the same cruel woman out to get her. Meanwhile Edith is confused on why the FL of the novel is acting so distant when she's described as being approachable. When they finally have to meet face-to-face, Edith starts acting unusually nice and though her guard is still up, Rhyse slowly starts to trust her again until the author starts twisting the narrative forcing Edith and Rhyse in dangerous situations with the intention of getting rid of Edith. Protecting her new friend from this invisible force becomes another motivation for Rhyse to escape the authors clutches.
The flowers from another world: Robelia
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/21d71021f3d6ed3a4ddd757b3de87954/60410d9cfbb2a114-ce/s1280x1920/004501e83d0ae033c0477d6858e15c8594a6129b.jpg)
At first Robelia will be presumed as the antagonist. She humiliates Aisha as revenge for the OG empress and at first glance, you'll think that she must be using some sort of magic to force everyone to bend to her will but it's quickly acknowledged that she also doesn't know why everyone loves her all of a sudden but wants out of it because she finds it a hinderance to her goal of getting Alexandros to divorce her. Humiliating Aisha any further would be kind of stupid since she's the only one willing to help Robelia get divorced and live a comfortable life so despite their reluctance, the two agree to work together.
two birds on a wire: Layla Llewellyn
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f332594d315e639f1e2db47b5202f679/60410d9cfbb2a114-23/s640x960/8288f06bb867a52168856acf4e3d113703905eb7.jpg)
Similarly to Robelia, it will be assumed that Layla is another typical white lotus who just wants power through being Matthiases lover. During the first act Layla won't actually do or say anything too bad but the other characters will jump the gun that she's suspicious and that Claudine should watch out for her, thereby testing the critical thinking skills of the reader. Layla's situation is similar to the og cry or better yet beg. She is trapped in a abusive relationship with Matthias for her uncles sake but is so used to being hurt in the past that Layla twists her own reality into believing that Matthias does love her since even after the way he treats her, he still makes her feel good by giving her special privileges or even just by complimenting her. Claudine will learn that Layla is not a two faced femme fatale looking to steal her man but a poor girl trapped in an abusive relationship that requires her to gaslight herself just so she doesn't go insane and her new goal will be to not only escape Matthias herself and learn her own worth but also to get Layla out of there before anything worse can happen to her.
The human saintess: Hestia
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/769a173cd6b988d4616c4e12235dd0d4/60410d9cfbb2a114-cb/s540x810/a1689afe98adac135274d0dba2b025a91d3f3174.jpg)
Hestia is a minor antagonist in this version. She relentlessly mocks Diana for her bad decisions and mistakes. She's constantly looking to get a rise out of Diana even through childish means and proceeds to act like she did nothing wrong when Diana eventually loses it, ironically making her a traditional white lotus woman. Hestia first believes she can do no wrong since she has a morality that's based on Cael's happiness and sees Diana neglecting him and his suicide as actions that are worthy of her being taken down a peg. This doesn't mean Hestia stays like this forever, Cael tells her to knock it off and that harassing his ex over and over is only gonna make it worse and Diana admits to Hestia that she's not wrong, she did make really bad decisions that affected the lives around her but that instead of actually helping said people herself, Hestia would rather continously blame everything on one woman. Essentially this gives Hestia a wakeup call and she starts to focus more on herself and Cael rather then Diana and becomes more mature then she was yesterday.
into the dark forever: Aisha de Elmire
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4eef8ce01c1388dd8248c1ecdd028474/60410d9cfbb2a114-c6/s640x960/651f190e29fd54db9ca45c6b8219ddc0c9ba6515.jpg)
Its mostly the same as the original ITLOA but since this version takes place from Mariannes perspective there will be moments in flashbacks when Aisha/Alisa seems out of character because Marianne is so used to being treated horribly that the one time someone treats her with respect she sees it as a cruel form of teasing on their part. Even though Aisha hates Marianne she still pitties her and offers Marianne one last chance to be better even if it's somewhere like a monastery. Unfortunately Aisha can't get through to Marianne thus the title "into the dark forever."
project Leila: Penelope Eckart
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e4fab030da2f7cbd12d2ec762c8034bd/60410d9cfbb2a114-38/s1280x1920/d6d00cca3c23a24239deaebb8dc8f9d9ae0945ef.jpg)
Unlike the original story this Penelope is the OG villainess who initially was very cruel to Yvonne. They both hated eachother at first, in Yvonnes eyes Penelope was just the random girl that took her place after her family gave up on her and Penelope viewed Yvonne as the potential calamity that would have her sent back to poverty or even killed. Leila will use Yvonne's negative feelings of Penelope as another reason to let her fully take control of the body but despite all her negative views on the "fake" daughter, Yvonne never has the heart or bravery to allow that. The true antagonists of this version are the rest of the Eckart family and seeing how poorly they treat Penelope gets Yvonne to realize that her sister is far from the worst person in the manor. The two slowly start to get along and their main goal is to dismantle the cult of Leila once and for all and get rid of the evil spirit residing in Yvonne's body.
the concubines woes: Adelaide Kotrov
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3b236044e5b957778dc777f28a13d8c4/60410d9cfbb2a114-c2/s640x960/fe5eb613ad5f870bc263e3b448664fd66f4c856c.jpg)
Basically the same as the OG story. Adelaide isn't a villian and despite how Diane treats her, she won't view her as a full blown enemy, she'll make it clear that doesn't mean she's going to let Diane do whatever she wants to her but regardless she won't make enemies with a fellow woman hurting because of the same man.
divorcing your husband: Jiwon Kang
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/53e60a1c2031aeed652fdb01d65f56ec/60410d9cfbb2a114-a5/s540x810/9057ed85f0cb6f5feb1e08b5f3056955a086d6c7.jpg)
Since this is a timeline where Sumin regressed instead of Jiwon, she was still unaware of her best friends true nature and intentions to get with her boyfriend. However Sumin hates Minhwan even more then Jiwon now and instead of actively looking to ruin Jiwons life, Sumin now only sees her as a simple sacrifice to get her revenge on Minhwan. She's still a bit of a pushover and tends to stay out of conflict when she can but when things do go sideways in Sumins plan, she discovers her boyfriend and best friend making out in the car and officially calls it off with both of them. Sumin did try to tell her that she should be grateful that she's willing to save Jiwon from her future murderer but all she gets in response is a disturbed and confused stare. The two stay enemies for the rest of the story but since Sumin is smarter now, she knows better then to harass the same girl who's getting clear attention from their boss so it doesn't esculate like it did in Marry my husband.
Golden cage: Navier Trovi
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c2fa909aed126c8706a3dc31a7f40162/60410d9cfbb2a114-6f/s1280x1920/bc6b20a7990f05edc3c2d392020c24cbf38c28b2.jpg)
While Navier can be looked at as heartless for not caring about the slaves and not caring about Rashtas situation, they are all based on her childhoods values and she isn't actively malicious against Rashta, she just can't understand why Rashta is so desperate to never go back to slavery. This doesn't make her oblivious to slavery as a whole, but in Naviers perspective all slaves are criminals so Rashta probably did something that warranted it and her escaping was just gonna damn her further so Rashta should just to back to avoid further punishment for ever day she is illegally free. In general Navier is designed to be a tragic case of women not supporting women and being a bystander. She was encouraged to only have her and the nobles best interests in mind and it doesnt occur to her that maybe this one time, her ladies in waiting are wrong. When she grows older as a mom, she described ignoring what happened as one of her greatest regrets to Lari and encourages her to not ignore another woman suffering.
In black widow, Navier still isn't an antagonist actively out to destroy Krista but she is wary of her since the rest of the Zemensias have been out to kill her.
aim for the throne: Ariande de Mare
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b2d5639fafb0e3f28145190b6da3fc86/60410d9cfbb2a114-5a/s640x960/b6151bd8116b1925ac12ba03b108048df255847a.jpg)
The reason Ariande is still enemies with Isabella in the first place in this version is that she still regressed. However Isabella isn't dumbed down in Aim for the throne and actually gives Ariande a hard time by rethinking her strategies and coming up with new schemes to tear her down, schemes that Ariande can't always predict since she only has her past life to help her out. At first Ariande will appear as a weak antagonist who struggles to combat Isabella but with every new scheme Ariande gets the hang of her adversary and progressively becomes more and more of a threat.

Isekai/Isekai Adjacent Recommendations Post - Female Protagonist Version
So since a few people are sharing their own isekai recommendations, I figured I'd make a post of my own. Most of these are Korean manhwa, most of them lean more towards romance fantasy than action, and all of them have female protagonists.
The reason for this is that, after noping out of Mushoku Tensei like half an episode in, I now refuse to read/watch any isekai with a male protagonist unless it is recommended to me by like three people that I actually trust.
Anyway, recommendations!
All Time Favourite: Ascendance of a Bookworm
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/840d583a342dca6e8eb4d57bbba27ec6/255a18f33ee1eea9-77/s540x810/505f64772e7b918c8d853dd02f959386724343da.jpg)
Summary: after dying in an earthquake, a book-loving young woman finds herself reborn in the body of Myne, a sickly peasant girl in a world where books are luxury items reserved mostly for the nobility. Horrified by her circumstances, she resolves to make her own books... and everything snowballs from there.
Why I like it: The worldbuilding in this story is absolutely fantastic. The protagonist is an extremely fun character, and plays really well off the supporting cast. The series is called "Ascendance" of a Bookworm because, in the process of trying to bring books to the masses, Myne brings massive changes to both her own life and the world around her.
Sometimes it's funny. Sometimes it's heartbreakingly sad. Sometimes you get lovingly detailed descriptions of printing presses, medieval economics, and soup.
A lot of these recommendations are romance-focused, but Ascendance of a Bookworm contains very little romance (arguably none for the protagonist, depending on how you interpret Myne's relationship with a certain character). Because of that, this is the one I would most recommend to people who are not interested in romance.
There is a manga for this one (and an anime), but it isn't finished. The light novel, however, is finished and has a complete official translation. Unlike a lot of light novels, the prose is actually pretty good, too! I would highly recommend the light novel if you're looking to get into this series.
Possible Second Favourite: Concubine Walkthrough
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/30ea354757ba90a8e47b487363f299d1/255a18f33ee1eea9-d6/s540x810/082d5e90b625e3e4019f0d9540345b4c8ee2754a.jpg)
Summary: High school student Yona gets quite literally sucked into the world of the VR game Concubine Walkthrough. Now stuck in the body of the villainess, she has to beat the game and escape this virtual world in time to take her college entrance exams.
Why I like it: The premise seems fairly cliche at first, but unlike a lot of romance fantasy isekai that stay strictly within the realm of fantasy, Concubine Walkthrough is actually science fiction. It's also a tale of palace intrigue, the cruelty of the modern (well, near-future) world, and - yes - it is a love story.
It's hard to fully explain why Concubine Walkthrough is so good without spoiling it, so I won't say any more than that. Just that this is a journey worth undertaking.
Other Recommendations, in no particular order except maybe alphabetical
How to Win my Husband Over:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6687b5127567d2079633be50e08084c8/255a18f33ee1eea9-36/s540x810/db9facb26bb92c77da370f61241edaa098de21dc.webp)
The protagonist wakes up in the body of Rudbeckia de Borgia, a novel villainess destined to die at the hands of her husband, Iske van Omerta. In order to survive, she begins a campaign to suck up to those around her and convince them that she is not a threat.
Rudbeckia ("Ruby") is a complex and troubled protagonist - a heart-rendingly realistic portrait of a woman who has never felt truly safe in her life. This story comes with massive content warnings for family violence, eating disorders, and self-harm/suicide. Some people find Ruby to be a really frustrating character, since her inability to trust others causes a lot of conflict in the story. I personally really like her, because her inability to trust others causes a lot of conflict in the story.
I'll Save this Damned Family:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3fd8d674584ce7a3102b5394035dfbc6/255a18f33ee1eea9-df/s540x810/e2e1427ef11fdec95901c3719fa6cc0e18d90e33.jpg)
The protagonist wakes up in the body of Tara Elias, who is - you guessed it, a minor villainess whose entire family is doomed to face execution. In order to save her entire household, despite the fact that most of them suck as human beings, Tara must use her wits to enter the arena of fantasy politics, throwing her support behind the illegitimate Prince Kyle. (Yes, for some reason most of the people in this one have normal-ass modern names).
The political intrigue in this one is incredibly complex. Tara is incredibly clever, but she doesn't always succeed - she is often outmanouevred, which adds a real sense of tension and urgency.
There's kind of a sideplot early on about Tara losing weight, which some people might find inherently distasteful. However, she goes about it in a normal and realistic way, and the story makes it clear that her worth as a human being isn't tied to her weight, which is actually kind of a big deal for a Korean manhwa.
Mother's Contract Marriage:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a7a41fef562be1dc52915a3fef3de999/255a18f33ee1eea9-12/s400x600/dedbeed013ad3b37ebc2e15d0ec8843248de3ee2.jpg)
Lyrica is a normal eight-year old girl. No, really, she's completely normal - she has no memories of any past life, nor has she gone back in time after facing any sort of grisly fate.
Her mother, on the other hand, suddenly changes one day. Formerly a neglectful drunk living in the slums, she finesses her way into the imperial ball and secures a contract marriage to the Emperor, catapulting Lyrica into the glamorous life of a princess overnight.
Of course, as the audience, we figure out pretty quickly that Lyrica's mother has gone back in time, and is using her knowledge of the future to save both of them from a terrible fate. The story isn't actually about that, though - it's about Lyrica charming everyone around her, finding out about her own magical powers, and unknowingly fighting back against the darker side of the nobility.
The art style is absolutely gorgeous, and really sells the fact that this entire story is being filtered through the perspective of an actual child.
Not-Sew-Wicked Stepmom:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2c93599362e4f59e140c32ded86231d4/255a18f33ee1eea9-94/s540x810/dffd9fe2cb5d6658ffaaed26566b7a1d6bfcdc3a.webp)
Children's fashion designer Lily Lee wakes up in the body of Abigail, the evil stepmother from Snow White. She resolves to shower her eleven-year-old stepdaughter, Princess Blanche, with affection, and to browbeat her distant and cold-hearted husband into doing the same.
This one is extremely sweet and heartwarming, while also dealing with some seriously heavy topics including body image and pretty much every kind of child abuse. Both Abigail and her husband, King Sabrian, are fundamentally good people dealing with some extremely difficult circumstances. Blanche is a sweet kid who has been forced to become mature beyond her years, and who wants nothing more than a loving family.
The Crimson Lady:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f4591674d2ae5c38436801a54bf0546c/255a18f33ee1eea9-87/s540x810/18b124c71ab79819d720508520bd0d770b1153b4.jpg)
Karen Heyer woke up as the heroine of a romance novel. Since then, she has lived through the same year one hundred times. No matter what she does, she is destined to die a painful death at the end of each year - no sooner, and no later.
Having been hollowed out into a broken husk of a person, she resolves to become a serial killer, hoping that death - rather than love - might bring an end to the cycle.
This one seems to be getting close to its conclusion, and every chapter is a massive goddamn cliffhanger. It's one of those stories where every time a mystery is solved, it just brings up more questions, and I WANT TO KNOW UGH.
The Fantasie of a Stepmother:
Shuri was brought into the Neuschwanstein family as a child herself, raised by the ailing Marquess for the sole purpose of protecting his four children after his death. Despite being despised by her four step-children, Shuri nevertheless managed to shield them from harm, and looks forward to finally having a chance to live her own life after the marriage of her eldest step-child.
Instead, however, Shuri wakes up seven years in the past, right after the death of her husband. She must now relive her entire experience of raising the Neuschwanstein children - but is this an opportunity to repair her bond with them?
(Note: yes, Shuri was a child when she was married to Marquess Neuschwanstein. That marriage was not, uh, consummated. I would not call her husband a good man, for a number of reasons, but CSA isn't an element of this story. Important to note because that could obviously be a deal-breaker for a lot of people.)
This is one of the most popular romance fantasy manhwa around, and with good reason. The art is beautiful, the story is intricate, and the characters are vibrant and likeable. Also, the original web novel was written by the same author as How to Win my Husband Over.
The Glamorous Life of a Fake Mistress:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8a379edbd8daacb35476570ad3fc7d29/255a18f33ee1eea9-3d/s540x810/c3ab3eca75dad61c94818501e03c57a312bd40f0.webp)
This one isn't super popular from what I can tell, but I'm recommending it because it's actually one of my favourites.
Sally, a common dancer, was taken in as the mistress of Duke Casis Estaban, who desperately wants to divorce his wife, Elysee. Although Sally falls in love with Casis, he remains cold and professional towards her, treating her as a mistress in name only. Elysee torments Sally behind the Duke's back, eventually torturing her and killing her.
After finding herself sent back in time, Sally initially attempts to avoid getting involved with Duke Esteban. However, after realising that this would simply transfer her fate to another person, she makes a deal with Casis - she will be his fake mistress and help him secure his divorce. With the knowledge she gained in her first life, both of the future and of noble etiquette, Sally sets out to achieve her goal.
Along the way, she gives a lot of very modern advice to noblewomen about sex, relationships, and self-esteem. I honestly just like this one because it's a breath of fresh air - Sally is a genuinely kind person, and I think it's easier to root for her in a way because she is a real underdog, as a commoner in a world of nobles and a mistress in a world of "respectable" women. Also, we love a girls' girl.
Villains are Destined to Die:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ee5118121a9eddf4a01a2a1f5fc00607/255a18f33ee1eea9-0b/s540x810/6af9c86328fc8b60ecb1f7dd39ba4600f13fc4db.jpg)
Probably the most popular isekai romance fantasy out there at the moment. The protagonist wakes up in the body of Penelope Eckhart, who is both the villainess of an otome game and the protagonist of that game's hard mode. The protagonist never actually managed to beat the game, having instead witnessed Penelope's constant deaths at every wrong turn.
Terrified of her fate, and deeply resentful of everyone within the game world, Penelope resolves to survive and beat the game.
In a pattern you may have identified, I like this one because of its protagonist. Penelope is cold, paranoid, and views the people around her as game NPCs. She tries to manipulate others without developing any attachments to them, focusing solely on her own survival. She isn't an inherently cruel person, but caring for others is a luxury she cannot afford.

Well
Well
Well
This is very relevant to my interests but also:
Since I know who Key turns out to be, Cobra’s freak out is extra hilarious because the poor man is watching the narrative go more and more totally off-key (heh) as the series’ unhinged protag has fallen for the minor villainess instead of the heroine.
The plot becoming a madlib is my fave thing!
