Does anyone else hate how forgiving your abusive parent is so pushed in 9-1-1? Like Chimney had every reason to stay pissed at his dad for life, yet he got forced into giving the man a chance by Albert who literally guilt tripped him (no Albert hate).
Then there's the Buckley parents who, admittedly, went through therapy, but I don't think it's fair how Maddie and Buck were just expected to forgive them.
Eddie's parents too. I did kind of like how they handled this situation because it was generational trauma and his dad apologised, but the fact that it adds to the list of abusive parents that were quickly forgiven just annoys me.
There's more instances but I can't think. It's like any child who rightfully puts space between themselves and their parent is in the wrong and must find a way to forgive and forget.
As someone who is non-contact with their father, I wish there was some representation for when the parent is unforgivable.

have we considered:
Buck tells Eddie "we can't just call you Eddie" in Under Pressure because Maddie's legal name is just Maddie, it's not a nickname like most people think
So at that moment Buck probably thought Eddie's legal name is just Eddie
And that's why he says we can't just call you Eddie
Eddie and Chim think Buck's being weird, but he's actually going off of personal experience
So later Buck is trying to make Eddie feel included by giving him a nickname because he doesn't know that Eddie is short for Edmundo yet

ALWAYS GOING BACK TO "TWO CUT LINES" and the whole team understanding that Buck would prefer to die with Eddie than be left behind having failed to save someone. When he saw Buck's face after he got out, Eddie knew it too.
To Buck, wanting to die for someone is the only way he knows how to love them, because he thinks that is all he has to give, to show he should be kept around (as a body, as spare parts;) His parents taught him this, even though he didn't know about Daniel. Buck intrinsically knows what it is to exist having "failed" to save someone and it is his deepest fear to have that happen again.
Eddie saw that Buck would rather die with him than fail at dying for him and it fucking terrified him and also it terrified him to think that Buck and Christopher, two halves of his heart, could be split up if his stopped beating and so he changed his will, legally forced Buck to stay and he made sure that they can never have two cut lines but now Buck has to love Chris and Eddie by staying for them instead of destroying himself for them...

okay what if buck gets it? what if he tells eddie something along the lines that living in a home where your own parents have not dealt with grief can have long lasting effects on the children? how living with the ghost of someone so loved but not grieved can harm kids even though you do their best to hide them from it?
the way his parents and maddie hid daniel from him and the effects that he has felt to this day? what if he says something about maybe chris not being there while eddie truly dealt with his grief will be the best thing in the long run? not just for chris, but for eddie as well?
dealing with your grief doesn’t have to be too late
it hurts now, it sucks but eddie has to deal with his grief
he needs to do things for himself first

this is a small, tiny thing but when eddie said 'a little too willing' — yeah. i'm so glad he's at least recognising that his parents taking chris away was not done entirely in good faith. they showed up with no call and swept him away without a single attempt at conversation and i honestly presumed that eddie would be so caught up in the guilt of it all that everything else would be ignored. i don't know if anything will come of this or if it will be addressed further in the narrative but. a little too willing indeed

Buck: maddie texted, our parents are visiting next week
Eddie: damn. better call athena, we’re gonna need time to work on my alibi
Buck: your alibi? for what?
Eddie: you didn’t hear the news? your parents were tragically murdered. i, of course, was busy that night as evidenced by my completely legitimate alibi
Buck: you can’t kill my parents, eds
Eddie: *whining* why not??

Eddie: Repeat after me
Buck: Okey!
Eddie: If it's not perfect on the first try...
Buck: If it's not perfect on the first try...
Eddie: It's a learning opportunity and I get to try again.
Buck: It's trash. I'm TRASH and–
Eddie: ok that's it. I am killing your parents
