On the subject of how Tommy makes Evan feel and how he threw himself full force into it…
Like, Evan absolutely could’ve given up on the situation. Yeah, he had a crush going into 705, but when the date fell on its face, he could’ve just said “fuck it. I like men, but this one isn’t gonna happen”.
But you CANNOT tell me that part of his choice to try again with Tommy wasn’t based in the structure that Tommy put Evan’s needs first. He didn’t get mad. He didn’t tell Evan that their date ending was his fault. He told him that he didn’t think he was ready and exited amicably. Zero pressure for Evan to follow up.
Except, Tommy has been creating a safe space for him from the jump. “So that was okay?”/“ I’ll try my damnedest to make it to the wedding”/“are you okay?” We’ve discussed it endlessly, but Tommy has let Evan lead every move, including telling his loved ones, engaging their opinions. He didn’t tell Evan he had to tell people. He didn’t expect him to make a show of his bisexuality. He was simply, decidedly patient. When Evan said he wanted to try again, Tommy was the one taking the risk, putting himself on the line to get hurt.
I firmly believe on some level, Evan is aware of all of that, and that’s why he’s completely in it with Tommy. No one has given him that before, put him first before everyone/thing else. Tommy chooses him, every single time.
There’s a really calming safety in that feeling when you’ve been abandoned over and over again, AND you finally manage to understand that you don’t have to run from it (as Buck did with Taylor).

hello! thank you for all of your meta posts, they're honestly so fun to read after having watched the episodes, especially since i have no one to talk about 911 with! it almost feels like i'm discussing the episodes with someone in person and you have a very keen eye for details and parallels! so thank you! i hope this is ok to ask, but I wanted to know your predictions for eddie's storyline in the next episode. i read this post the other day https://andorskirk.tumblr.com/post/683006101521825792/eddie-meta-5x17-speculation and it's a really good analysis, but it makes me sad to think that there's no hope for a queer eddie diaz. i agree with op's analysis but i was really hoping for a queer storyline with him. what do you think? especially after the last episodes there have been a lot of hints that could be easily read as queer subtext. do you think they're going to explore it or at least nod to it between the next episode and the finale so that they can explore it in season 6 or do you think it's not possible at all?
thank you again and have a good day! ^.^
Hi, lovely Nonnie! No, thank YOU for the kind words. I'm going through some difficult times, so as much as I always believe every bit of kindness matters, it's even truer for me right now. And I am SO glad we get to discuss these eps together, my friend. ;) *HUGS*
Anything's okay to ask! I'll just apologize, the post you linked to is too long for me, I can't read it with my vertigo. :( I'm already making a huge effort to read my asks so I can reply, I'm spent before I get to anything else. I haven't read anyone's meta or fics in a long time and as I mentioned here, I can't even read mine back.
So I don't know what that post's author is going on. And TBH, I can't tell you if there is or isn't a chance for queer Eddie now. In general? I def think we have a very good chance at getting that. But will we get it now? I actually think it would make so much sense! Listen, that Ramon was severe with Eddie and raised him with all sorts of toxic masculinity ideas is known. To justify Eddie going back to Texas in 517 and facing his dad, the show should add something more in. Especially if its runners claim that we're going to learn Eddie has trauma from before he joined the army. I have to stress here, not everything that's bad parenting is also traumatic in the clinical sense of the word, which is the sense I tend to consider because that's what we do when we study Psychology. So just having Eddie go back and confront Ramon Diaz about being a toxic dad, I'm not sure that is enough. Think of the Buckley parents coming to visit in 404 and 405, we knew something was off about them before they appeared on our screen, but to justify Buck's confrontation with them, the show had to introduce us to a deeper trauma.
So what deeper trauma might we learn about since Eddie IS going back to see his parents and family in Texas? There are a lot of options, but I have to admit that the one which plays out best IMO is a teenage Eddie discovering he has feelings for another boy, and Ramon putting a brutal end to it. That can easily count as a trauma in the clinical sense of the word. And there are things suggesting Eddie hasn't allowed himself to explore where his heart might lead him to, just like there were hints in 403 about the Buckley secret (yep, about half way through that ep I was convinced what Daniel's story was going to be and I was 100% right). There is the possibility that we’ll discover Ramon forced Eddie to marry Shannon, but TBH, Eddie pretty much has already told Bobby he only married Shannon because she got pregnant. So is finding out this was in part enforced by Ramon and not just Eddie’s guilty conscience enough to turn it into a ‘trauma’? Maybe, but it’s a lot less convincing than queer!Eddie IMO. Because a part of it is Eddie himself, as we saw in s2 when he thought Shannon was pregnant again, which drove him to decide to commit to her again, despite not being sure right before that. I can't say that I saw any hints for anything other than that or a general "Eddie's parents stopped him from figuring out who he was really meant to be." Does that mean I didn't miss something, or that the writers are actually ready to let Eddie be gay or bi? I'm not sure. TBH, I would have expected maybe more of a reaction from Eddie to Josh in 516 if that's what 911 was setting up. Like maybe some sadness in realizing Josh might be able to have what Eddie could never be allowed. So there are points against the queer!Eddie theory, too.
In conclusion, queer!Eddie still fits best of all the things I have noticed. Am I convinced this is what we're getting? No. I’m very hesitant ‘coz I can’t say I saw enough hints in this specific direction beyond that general “Let Eddie follow his heart” theme. But it does fit IMO, so I wouldn't rule it out either. And I most def would not rule it out in the long run. I think at the end of the day, maybe the show runners aren’t ready to let Buddie go canon now, but at some point they’ll have to. Nothing else honestly fits either man. So basically, take heart! IDK if we get queer!Eddie now, but I believe at some point we will.
I hope this helps, hon? Please feel free to let me know! Thank you again for your wonderful ask! xoxox
(I got an influx of asks, I WILL answer all of them, but it might take a sec. If anyone wants to check whether I've already answered theirs or to read my replies, here's my ask tag. Thank you! xoxox)

This pandemic hasn’t just been harder on women — it’s been deadlier for women. In February, a woman and her mother were reportedly shot and killed by the woman's boyfriend in Dallas; he then broadcast his apology live on Instagram before dying by suicide. In March, a nurse was killed by her ex-boyfriend in Minnesota, and in April dispatchers received a chilling 911 call from a 9-year-old girl in Brooklyn after her father killed her mom and her two sisters in the middle of her birthday party. In the United States, preliminary data suggests that the number of men accused of killing their wives or girlfriends has doubled in some counties, while calls to domestic violence hotlines and to the police for domestic abuse soared, according to a 2020 analysis.
And it’s not just in America. There’s no way to sugarcoat it: Men on a global scale are increasingly killing the women they purport to love. According to a March report by the World Health Organization, the most widespread form of violence experienced by women around theworld is preventable. It’s not coming from the proverbial boogeyman in the alley — it’s coming from men they know and perhaps share their bed with, otherwise (and rather euphemistically) known as intimate-partner violence.
As lockdowns were announced, femicides increased globally from Mexico, to South Africa and the U.K. Domestic violence soared by 300 percent in China's Hubei province, the epicenter of the pandemic, according to local police reports.
In Quebec, a surge in femicides over the last month prompted Premier François Legault to address men directly. “There is nothing manly about being violent with a woman,” he said at a news conference. “It doesn’t make sense that in 2021 we live like barbarians.” Yet after that impassioned speech, Legault blocked efforts to increase funding for women’s shelters. The vote came just a few days after International Women’s Day. And yet, even Legault’s speech doesn’t tell the whole story. Harming women is not simply a “barbaric” male biological impulse or crime of passion as sometimes suggested — it’s usually premeditated. A study of Google searches from the beginning of the pandemic last March to the end of August 2020 in the U.S. shows that millions of men appear to be doing some very specific research about how to assault the women around them.
Published in The Journal of General Psychology, the study was led by Katerina Standish, the deputy director and senior lecturer at the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Otago in New Zealand. “How to hit a woman so no one knows” was typed into Google 163 million times, a 31 percent increase compared to 2019. The search phrase “I am going to kill her when she gets home” was entered 178 million times on Google, a 39 percent increase from the prior year. The query “how to control your woman” was searched 165 million times. That’s a stunning 67 percent jump compared to 2019. While the Google searches don't tell us the specific gender of the user, it's hard not to see the uptick of gendered violence reflected in them.
Google searches that appear to be from women, on the other hand, reveal desperation coupled with a stunning lack of support. “He will kill me” was typed into Google 107 million times — an 84 percent increase from 2019. “Help me, he won’t leave” was searched 222 million times post-pandemic, almost double (up 95 percent) compared to 2019. “He beats me up all the time” was searched 320 million times — a 36 percent spike from pre-pandemic searches.
Women are crying for help. Google may be listening, but is it helping?
None of the aforementioned searches appear to return any domestic violence resources or hotlines. If suicide search terms assiduously connect an internet user with links to dissuade them from harming themselves, why isn’t Google doing the same for domestic abuse, especially if millions of survivors are explicitly turning to Google for help?
Meanwhile, when I typed “how to control your woman” from Venice, California, the search engine suggested a litany of articles instructing a male reader on how to psychologically abuse his intimate partner. One of the first links Google proposed was a blog post offering step-by-step guidance for men on how to restrict what a female partner wears, where she travels, what she eats and even what she spends her money on. These are all signature features of “coercive control,” recently recognized as a criminal form of domestic abuse in Hawaii — similar laws are in the works in New York and Connecticut.
Instead of being deterred from harming women, male internet users are persuaded to view themselves as the victim instead. “I’ll be blunt here,” one of the top suggested articles starts with. “You’re reading this because you’re getting pussywhipped by your girlfriend.”
Google also prompted me to go further down the misogynistic rabbit hole as it impelled me to click on more suggested search terms like “how to control a woman emotionally” and “how to manipulate your girlfriend.” Even the YouTube videos that it proposed were disturbing. The first suggested video, “How to Control Your Girlfriend,” shows a misogynistic dystopian male revenge fantasy of a protagonist commanding his girlfriend’s actions and behaviors with a remote control.
“When someone searches for a term that shows an intention to physically harm a woman, we need an immediate disruption,” Ted Bunch, co-founder of the advocacy organization A Call to Men, told The New York Times. His organization, which he co-founded with Tony Porter, educates men and boys all over the world on healthy masculinity to try to prevent all forms of gender-based violence and discrimination and to promote equity and inclusion. His group recently partnered with the North Carolina Department of Public Health to craft a digital campaign designed to interrupt men searching to purchase sex online.
Bunch believes that pointed interventions for online searches that prompt men toward education rather than radicalization can create lasting behavioral change that ultimately makes women safer. “It takes visionary funders and leaders of industry who are willing to look at innovative prevention methods to create these types of disruptions.”
It’s not just tech companies that need to stop incentivizing men to abuse women. Google et al. are simply following the lead of public officials, talking heads and others who continue to paint male violence against women as a women’s issue.
President Joe Biden co-wrote the Violence Against Women Act and championed the sexual assault prevention campaign “It’s On Us.” So why has he been silent about the femicide crisis in the U.S.? While his Covid-19 relief bill will certainly help some survivors flee violence, with provisions like child care tax credits and housing vouchers, men’s violence against women cannot be solved by targeting women alone. We urgently need a national task force on men and boys, and a genuine commitment from this administration to promoting and legislating positive masculinity.
It's important for all men — male elected officials, CEOs, coaches, fathers, religious and community leaders — to identify where they have influence and how they can use their platform to promote healthy manhood,” Bunch said. “While the majority of men are not violent, too many men are silent when confronted with domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, controlling behavior or a sexually objectifying joke. That silence is as much of a problem as the violence and abuse are.”
The anti-feminist hashtag #NotAllMen trended once again after the killing of Sarah Everard last month in the U.K. But if men are sick of being told they’re the problem, perhaps it’s time they make themselves part of the solution. The men inside Google and the White House would be a great start.
If men are googling how to abuse women can we stop acting like abusers are “loving men who just snap and lose control”. They know what they are doing and they plan out their actions.

The Devil You Know Review: Vice Docuseries Finds a New Kind of Cult
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
True believing Christian cults are frightening enough, but antichrist-Christian cults are confoundingly so. The Devil You Know, VICE Studios’ six-part documentary series moves into its second season with its eyes on the New Age Alien Agenda.Their first season introduced audiences to Pazuzu Algarad, a killer who worshipped Satan. The new installments blur demonic relationships even further.
Before QAnon infiltrated the collective unconscious of susceptible seekers, Sherry J. Shriner used Facebook and YouTube as a breeding ground to groom impressionable minds into followers of an anti-lizard cult. Most of the youngsters who got caught up in the movement never harbored any prejudice against lizards prior to their indoctrination. Some may have even envied their amphibian prowess. But once Shriner told them about the mind control and body-snatching, and how they wanted to bring about the rule of the Antichrist, they became radicalized.
Shriner called herself a “granny from Ohio.” The Poconos turned her into a cult leader, the “Messenger of the Most High God.” Most of her messages were interpretations of “The Book of Revelation.” Although she somehow mistakes the Emperor Nero for a devil-worshipping, shape-shifting reptile from outer space. She amassed her following over podcasts, which had a tight clique of eager warriors. She self-published the books Aliens on the Internet, Bible Codes Revealed: The Coming UFO Invasion, and Interview with the Devil: My Conversation with Lucifer. Archival audio of Shriner’s descriptions of the actual conversations with the devil are high points of the series.
The documentary series is a warning call about the lethal dangers of misguided belief. Much of the second season of The Devil You Know focuses on the murder of Steven Mineo and the suicide of Kelly Pingilley. They may, in fact, both be suicides, because the very opening of the series replays a 911 call with a horrified woman’s voice describing how she was forced by her boyfriend to shoot him in the head.
Rogers and Mineo were avid listeners of Shriner’s podcast. Rogers, an Army veteran with a medical discharge, tells police she killed Mineo because he wanted her to kill him due to stress of the cult. While there is a lot of talk about Mineo buying Sherry Shriner’s reptile-killing, evil repelling “orgone” pieces, it probably had more to do with Shriner accusing Rogers of being a lizard witch with a demon clone personality who wanted to eat Mineo’s face. It is very revealing how so many of the interviewees remember thinking the same thing about Rogers: She had the devil in her eyes.
The documentary presents a very deep dive into the cult, interviewing ex-cult members, police, and grieving friends and family. These are very effective in showing just how far an individual changes once they are under the power of a charismatic believer. For the most part, everyone keeps a straight face on camera. But a particular highpoint for this reviewer comes when one of the ex-cult members is talking about humans who turn into reptiles and an off- camera voice asks “you really believe that?”
Another highlight is the interview with Rogers, who is serving a 15- to 40-year jail term. The documentary is effectively ambiguous about who is responsible and where blame lies. We can see how the statements Rogers made right after the killing only come apart because the police are trying to fit her roundabout story into a square peg. But we also see she is psychologically incapable of giving a trustworthy account of the evening, her intent, or Mineo’s state of mind. We get the sense the police rushed to a predetermined conclusion long before the case turned into a ride at Disneyland.
Investigative journalist Tony Russo, and former YouTube Insider and AI Expert Guillaume Chaslot offer fairly astute analysis of Shriner’s radio show and other online programs. They are able to break down some of her beliefs. Shriner believed Satan disguised himself as Jesus and called in demonic, alien reptiles to take over the world. The documentarians are not judgmental, and don’t get into the flaws of her belief. If the alien underground has been around for thousands of years, why are they only making their moves now? It seems global domination would have easier to get done when there just the Adams and Eves of early man rather wait for there to be billions of people on the planet. But the demonic aliens are only getting started.
Chaslot is also helpful in explaining why people are becoming increasingly more likely to fall into the influence of self-proclaimed influencers. Algorithms radicalize people by design. It is the optimal strategy for YouTube. Flat Earth believers want to see flat Earth content on their flat screens, and live in the bubble of flat Earth belief. QAnoners can’t even be lured out of their rabbit holes with offers of pure uncut adrenochrome. There is a headstone on a grave which reads Sherry Shriner died Jan. 8, 2018. Probably from one of the many heart attacks she complained about on her radio show. The Devil You Know doesn’t dwell on it, because most of the people in Sherry’s circle believe it’s a hoax.
The only real difference between the leader of the on-line doomsday cult and any of the more mainstream religious hucksters is the alien factor. The Devil You Know succeeds in taking the alienation out of investigation. The people who are documented being pulled into the extremes of these beliefs are very much like the people who live next door. Friends and family of the players all remember how the person they knew used to be. Except Mineo, his friends remember him always being ready for something dangerously adventurous.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
The Devil You Know is informative, entertaining and suspenseful. It presents a mysterious set of circumstances but downplays the mystery of it. There are no dramatic narrations dripping with the gravitas of judgement. The investigators succeed in putting the puzzle pieces together without having to force anything to fit. In spite of the topic, the series is not a wild ride, but it is a satisfying probe of an elusive suspect. While the series itself reaches a conclusion, it is the opposite of closure. It is expansive.

The Importance of Safe Learning Environments
The issue of safety within academic institutions has become one of increasing concern, particularly for female students. Recent incidences indicate that learning environments, places that are like second homes to students are turning into crime scenes for far too many incidences involving physical and sexual assaults and harassment. While the occurrences and reporting of such cases have been consistent, the number and their frequency has gone up steadfastly in the last few years. Safe learning environments are essential for psychological well-being, as well as the feeling of freedom, dignity and respect for students.
We wanted to understand how this made students feel at their local universities, so we conducted a survey with 40 undergraduate women at Simon Fraser University. The questions were related to how safe they felt on campus and in transit to and from campus. Our findings suggest that such incidences can make students feel quite unsafe, stressed out and can even make it difficult for them to concentrate and focus on schoolwork. As a result, such incidences lead some students to avoid classes on campus during times of the year when there is less sunlight, such as in Autumn and Winter/Spring semesters, and evening classes. It also makes it difficult for students to take transit, or park without constantly feeling worried.
While academic institutions provide some ideas such as walking in groups, or staying in well-lit areas, these precautions are not always possible and are simply not enough. We utmost urgently need academic institutions to do more to promote student safety. The actions we propose include increased surveillance on campuses that means more stations for security guards so that they are never more than a minute away, as well as more cameras in hidden areas, creating on-campus distress centres for student, free self-defence training for students, or making all campus buildings accessible only by student cards. For transit, we propose increasing awareness of apps/alarms for reporting incidents, greater presence of transit officers, an increase in public education campaigns for transit safety, and free emergency whistles distributed to female passengers.
Other key prevention measures include:
Providing photos or sketches of perpetrators on campus and for transit, to be able to identify them quickly
An emergency line for campus security (short like 911; currently full phone numbers are common) or app-button to call instantly if in trouble; alternatively requiring incoming students to add security services on speed dial
Holding intercultural discussions to reduce the practice of hiding incidents that involve harassment or violence, and so the occurrences are not considered ‘too taboo’ to report to authorities
Research body to conduct analysis of campus safety incidents across years as well as best solutions across campuses
Cassbreea Dewis, Executive Director of the Equity and Human Rights Office at UVic has said 'there is a need for universities to have some consistency... to ensure that we all have some shared approaches is really key." This requires a resolution for consistency in policies and support systems across campuses. (The Abbotsford News, 17 May, 2018)

Marjorie Taylor Greene claims she was “swatted” over her anti-trans bill… twice
An unknown person called local police in Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) hometown of Rome, Georgia and said that a man had been shot in a bathtub inside her home in order to get the police to investigate. The suspect later said they did it because they were upset about Greene’s bill to forcibly de-transition minors and defund gender-affirming care for many transgender adults. And now she’s saying it happened again. “Last night, I was swatted just after 1 a.m. I can’t express enough gratitude to my local law enforcement here in Rome, Floyd County,” Greene tweeted yesterday. “Swatting” refers to calling the police and lying about an ongoing crime in another person’s home so that the police go to their home. Usually swatting involves convincing authorities that there is an active shooter so that they respond in large numbers and aggressively try to subdue the target, putting everyone’s lives at risk. The Rome Police Department said that someone called 911 on Wednesday morning at 1:03 a.m. and claimed that a man had been shot multiple times at Greene’s home and that there were a woman and possibly children inside the home as well. Officers were dispatched to her home and she told them there was no man shot in a bathtub. The Rome Police Department’s report on the incident said that they later received a call from someone who claimed responsibility for the first call who used a computer-generated voice and said that they were “upset about Ms. Greene’s stance on ‘trans-gender youth’s rights.'” As far as swatting goes, the incident was fairly tame. Several weeks ago, transgender activist and streamer Keffals was swatted for her support of transgender rights. Police searched her apartment for eight hours, arrested her, deadnamed and misgendered her, and kept her electronic devices for analysis. “I thought I was going to die,” she said. She has since had to flee her home country of Canada because online trolls continued to find her and threaten her even as she went into hiding. But the fact that the incident was resolved fairly quickly for Greene – a SWAT team didn’t actually go to her home or put her life in danger – didn’t stop her from spending the entire day yesterday discussing it with the press and arguing that she’s now even more motivated to curtail transgender rights. “If this is the war the left wants, this is the war the left will get,” she tweeted yesterday. “I will never stop protecting children and defending their innocence.” Her bill, which is unlikely to pass the Democratic House this year, would ban minors from accessing gender-affirming care, including puberty blockers, which have been shown to significantly reduce lifelong suicide risk among transgender people. The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, and other major medical/mental health organizations all support gender-affirming care for pubescent youth when appropriate. Her bill would also block Medicaid and some health care plans regulated by the Affordable Care Act from covering gender-affirming care for transgender adults. It would also ban medical schools from teaching about gender-affirming care. Doctors found to have helped transgender youth could be charged with a federal class C felony in her bill, which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. Earlier today, Greene said that she got “swatted” again. She has not provided more details. Swatted again last night. — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (@RepMTG) August 25, 2022 http://dlvr.it/SXMp7w
