might be an extremely unpopular opinion but eddies mistake is that he allowed his TEENAGE son to be TAKEN by his grandparents without even a genuine talk first. I do think the show is cooking something with the whole Tommy calling him Evan thing and yeah you could go the boring route of “people that know me call me Evan” therefore Tommy calling him Evan is a death kiss for them as a couple, but given that Buck has yet to correct him, I think it’s much more interesting to go the “Because, Evan” route that the people allowed to see him as “Evan” are the ones that see past the firefighter persona of “Buck” and see the man underneath. For Maddie, that means knowing him better than anyone, because she raised him. For Eddie, that meant seeing the real reason Buck was so upset and self-sacrificing after the Shooting: he saw that Buck thought he was expendable. For Tommy, he saw something in Buck not even Buck saw in himself, a hidden away part of “Evan Buckley” that Tommy brought to the surface, and that’s why he gets Evan Privileges.

My favorite thing about when Buck first starts expressing his initial crush on Tommy is that he does it in a way that child would. I mean in the sense that it is so innocent because he has no context for these big feeling because he's never stopped to examine any of it.

You are 32 years old and you've never stopped to think about another boy in that context, but the feeling too big for you ignore it, so you react in the only way you that know how, like a little kid who is jealous of his friend who is getting more attention from your crush than you are.

You misplace your frustration and turn it into a bit of anger because you don't know what else to do with it. All because you like a boy.

And that confusing, late-in-life, second adolescence is such a genuinely queer experience.

And what's Bobby's answer to Buck asking for his opinion? No notes. 10/10. Keep at it, kid, you're doing great. Which, judging by Bobby saying this as if it's different from how the conversation usually goes, also tells us that he has opinions about who Buck dates and that he's not usually this on board with his chosen partners. And I think it's really cute that Buck actually asks him for his opinion even if it looks like he sometimes brings up a list of red flags.
