"...And Juan looked up at the painting and saw that Theresa's dead husband was Roberto. He had eloped with his enemy's widow. It's a telenovela!"

death note would absolutely work as a soap opera because every character is so dumb yet they all overthink everything

watching a viagem (90s globo remake) and honestly Dina is such a fascinating character. like i can't tell if the writing genuinely wants me to think she's great or if it is self-aware of how selfish she is for a supposed protagonist or """mocinha""" (god do i hate those categories). and is going to grow once she gets with otavio? like normally in novelas when the protagonist is being cheated by the villain... usually there's a reason for it, usually the villain is playing the protagonist in some way by hiding information (isabel doesn't know she was stolen by nazare as a baby or that she pushed his father down the stairs , tifao doesn't know carminha cheats on him w/ max or tried to bury nina alive that one time, etc) but here... like, that's not he case sdfklj alexandre isn't playing anyone at this point (ep 34) Dina literally knows that Alexandre ran over a 3 year old, that he was a trouble-maker in his university and almost assaulted a teacher, that he was indebted bc he took 2 many drugs, knows he was aggressive to his girlfriends, and like.,... and obviously knows he killed a father of 3 kids to steal some money (Even tho they're literally rich)... and she doesn't care and still treats him like a little kid? literally never chides him at all? sdlfjsdkfsdklfjs it's so bizarre to me man. and the novela is legit like "wow isnt dina so protective. isnt this passao de pano over her brother so touching"?

There's this old venezuelan telenovela that has an autistic woman... Actually, it's called "the perfect woman", it's about different couples/women, and I did see a commercial for it recently, where the "asperger" woman says something like: I guess you can say some of us are a bit... Different. But I think I can show that I'm also the perfect woman, in my way :)
Which, considering it was like, fifteen years ago, it was kinda super progressive ajsjdj
(Monica Spear you will always be cherished :c)
And I also saw a clip where she's talking to a man and bluntly says "yes, I'm talking about having sexual intercourse you and I" *guys chokes on beverage* "I assume that you as the gentleman will take charge of the details though :)". So that's fun.
I've never checked it because I feel it might be too cringe for me, but there's no harm in trying. Let's see if I can find it 🤔

So, episode 1 of Mania de Voce aired yesterday... I thought it was pretty good, tbh! don't know yet if I'll commit to it. But so far, I'm intrigued. Despite a lot of people complaining about the amount of events in the first episode, tbh I don't think it truly a breakneck pace like Avenida Brasil. Maybe it's all the beach-imaginery and copious amounts of glare in the photography, but the impression I get is that it's gonna be a lot more of a slow burn experience. Luma, Mavi and Marcia all seem like they're gonna be doing Violent Crimes (tm) pretty soon of course, but it *seems* like they're the types to do them very cleanly, kinda hannibal-esque, to the soundtrack of classical music. The aesthetic in general is the highlight for me so far. Even if, again, the photography with the overuse of glare and weirdly cold coloring bothers me, overall the package. Speaking of music, one thing that did rub me off about the aesthetic is how much the soundtrack is composed of USian music :/ I think only the main track and 1 other song were actually brasilian, which i think is very disappointing tbh. Not only does it rob it of showing non-hegemonic culture, it also feels very... lazy and viralata, I guess? like, I mean, to this day I still feel "Set Fire To The Rain" was not at all appropriate a theme for Rita and Jorginho. Like think of a character dynamic most dissimilar to a sound, and it was that... but alas, it was a "hit" at the time, and gringo af, so they picked it. Sadly that seems to be the case with most of the music in this novela, so far.
