I am begging you, please start reading the series. You will not regret it.
Something I love about Tumblr that you don’t really get on Reddit, is the brief flashes of fandoms I’m entirely unfamiliar with, like some large beast in the undergrowth.
Right now, it’s The Locked Tomb. Never even HEARD of it before coming here, but I see impressions of it everywhere. It’s like, teenagers wearing skeletons? Or something?
Do I dare seek it out? Will it wear MY skeleton?

The people have spoken!
Bionicle SCP AU!!
Big thanks to @chancetimespace for honestly entertaining this idea in the first place because this came out of left field😅
World stuff to get out of the way first:
The SCP here is basically the same as the usual SCP(Secure, Contain, Protect) with the added bonus of keeping the beings in its walls from getting out and disrupting the natural order
This is also something of a humanized au, so please bear with me
The Toa Metru are SCPs, each with their own quirks, as do other SCPs, but that's par for the course with anomalies
Lhikan, Naho, Sidorak, the Toa Mata, and Jaller are all scientists or are at least employees in the facility, with their jobs boiling down to keeping anomalies alive and in the facility. There are other workers, these are just who I thought of first
There is a facility trying to get an anomaly out, one that could possibly cause worldwide damage if set free. The anomaly has other acquaintances and allies, but it and the other facility are planning a breach
Takua/Takanuva is an anomaly
The Piraka are anomalies
There are objects that count as anomalies, namely masks. It is unknown how long these masks were tampering with natural order before their were apprehended
On to some of the SCPs themselves!
Off the bat, we have SCP-8545, Whenua. He appears to be a man in his mid-teenties to early thirties, but really he's been around since the 1200's, or so people think; 1215 was an exact year he mentioned as well as meeting philosophers and claiming they, "ruined a good day, and my lunch." Whenua can be hurt and does not regenerate, but his senses are heightened; he can see in the dark, has some level of echo location, and seems to have some level of X-Ray vision, proven when he stared at an agent and asked when they'd last been to the doctor. His Object Class is Safe and he is allowed to roam freely in the facility. He is also allowed to have belongings such as fossils he's kept with him and anitique books and objects from various points in history, including a draft drawing done by Leonardo DaVinci he claims to have won in a bet
SCP-8604, Onewa, is a mostly normal human being, but he has patches of stone on his body, most notably along his forehead, jaw, cheeks, arms, knuckles, torso, knees, back, legs, and feet. These patches make him nearly impermeable to physical damage and allow him to easily fight and gain the upper hand against other people. Also giving him an advantage, and what also made him difficult to capture, is that he has some level of telepathy, specifically making agents either forget him or ignore him. Upon his capture, he did need to be kept in a room with a two-way mirror; agents dicivered his telepathy is fully effective only when he can see his target and have their full attention on him while he commands them. Because of his telepathy and his subpar cooperation, he is classified as Euclid, only being allowed to roam if he wears a set of goggles that darken his vision and makes seeing others more difficult.
Matau, SCP-8740, also falls under the Euclid class. He is a shapeshifter, able to change his features at will and hold the appearance for as long as he wishes. Containment protocol including having a tracker injected into his body so that he could be found no matter what form he took. His original form appears to be mostly humanoid, only his skin is more reflective and scaley and he never blinks. Containment protocol has included that additions to having what is essentially an adult-sized play area in his area due to his high energy. He is only allowed outside if there is a guaranteed way to bring him back; he has had instances of nearly escaping as he slipped out of a window and formed a set of wings so he could fly.
SCP-8544 is Nuju, a human who agents found living alone with Nokama, another SCP and who was suffering from hypothermia. Nuju himself is immune to the cold and is able to love in firgid temperatures comfortably; he can be burned with heat, but rarely needs such extreme measures to be contained. He also has sharp vision and can read the stars in the sky like books, being an astronomer/astrologist, though this has translated to him being able to predict the future with steady success rates. Agents were surprised to see he had telekinetic powers, but only to the point of lifting and throwing objects and holding doors shut. His Object Class is Euclid due to his practicing using telekinesis to do more advanced things like stop a heart.
As previously mentioned, Nokama, SCP-8737, was found and apprehended with Nuju. She had been experiencing hypothermia due to swimming in a nearby frozen lake. When she recovered, she, at first, spoke to the agents in fluent Russian. When no one understood her, she spoke again in French. She spoke in various languages with perfect fluency, including dead languages such as Mayan and Latin, before finally speaking to the agents in English. When asked when she learned so many languages, she in turn asked why the agents never learned a fraction of the languages. Examination revealed she had a set of gills in her lungs, which allowed her to breathe underwater. Containment protocol is to let her have a pool in her room, as she is more comfortable underwater than above or outside of it. Object Class is Safe.
Vakama, SCP-8601, has been the longest staying anomaly of the SCPs listed. Similar to Nuju, Vakama is immune to heat, though he can be hurt by frigid temperatures. Unlike Nuju, Vakama is far more volatile as in moments of extreme distress or anger, he seems to begin to combust from the inside. When he's stable, he is safe enough to touch for prolonged periods of time, though there have been occasions where his body temperature drops until he has the same body temperature as the average human being. Agents were alerted of his presence by too many coincidences lining up with one another, namely too many premature prescribed burns and demolitions with a bit of jewelry of piece of metal artwork left behind. Vakama was found near an abandoned factory, though agents thought they'd only found a fire. Upon putting out the flame, they found and apprehended Vakama, who would explain he knew they would be in the area and wanted them to find him. They learned that Vakama could see the future, something he has no control over. During these visions, the flame grows and Vakama himself turns invisible. Despite his Euclid Object Class and permission/ability to free roam, Vakama rarely leaves his holding area, only requesting to have metal working materials and a calender
SCP-40581-1 is Takua/Takanuva, the names being used interchangeably as he can switch between two bodies, only able to inhabit one at a time. When in control of one bkdy, the other lays dormant in what appears to be a comatose state. Takua appears to be a small humanoid while Takanuva appears to be a humanoid crystal with a prominent internal glow. When asked, he explained it in a similar way to walking through a door and laying on a couch or bed. Agents have theories on how the anomaly came to be, but have more trouble keeping Takua in one place as he is apt to explore the facility(Object Class: Safe, if not mildly annoying). There have been recorded incidents of the slumbering body of Takanuva twitching and speaking. Takua claims to know nothing of what is said. It is unknown as of yet if damage to one body is carried on to the other

asteroid Sejong (7365) conjunct my sun (1 orb)
this asteroid is named after King Sejong the great,
His greatest achievement was creating Hangul, the Korean alphabet, but his patronage of science, technology, literature, and medicine all had a large impact on Korea and Koreans. King Sejong is known as one of the greatest rulers of Korea of all time, as he created Hangul (Korean alphabet), encouraged significant scientific advancements, reinforced Confucianism in Korea, and caused many political and social advancements. Sejong, (born 1397—died 1450), monarch of the Chosŏn (Yi) dynasty during his reign (1419–50) cultural achievements in Korea reached their highest point.
asteroid hatshepsut (2436) conjunct my sun (1 orb)
This asteroid is named after the female pharaoh Hatshepsut. Considered one of Egypt's greatest female pharaoh brought great wealth and artistry to her land. She sponsored one of Egypt's most successful trading expeditions, bringing back gold, ebony, and incense from a place called Punt (probably modern-day Eritrea, a country in Africa).
asteroid Carolus Quartus (16951) conjunct my sun (1 orb)
This asteroid is named after Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor. He is considered the greatest czech of all time. The 14th century – particularly the reign of Charles IV (1342–78) is considered the Golden Age of Czech history. He gained more through diplomacy than others did by war, and through purchases, marriages, and inheritance as he enlarged his dynastic power.
asteroid Vaclav (8740) conjunct my sun (2 orb)
This asteroid is named after Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia. It's hard to find stories about him but all i know is that he is known for being "Good" and people make famous songs about him. Oh yeah uh also his evil brother killed him too..
asteroid Reyes (14684) conjunct my sun (1 orb)
"Reyes" or "Rey" means "Kings" or "King" in Spanish.
asteroid Koniq (3815) conjunct my mercury (1 orb)
"Koniq" means "King" in German.
Update:
asteroid Zoser (4907) conjunct my sun (2 orb)
This asteroid is named after the pharaoh Djoser. Djoser, also spelled Zoser, second king of the 3rd dynasty (c. 2650–c. 2575 bce) of ancient Egypt, who undertook the construction of the earliest important stone building in Egypt. His reign, which probably lasted 19 years, was marked by great technological innovation in the use of stone architecture. King Djoser's architect, Imhotep, built the first pyramid by placing six mastabas, each smaller than the one beneath, in a stack to form a pyramid rising in steps.

Here is Queen Paradox of the ShapeWings! Also more information about the roleplay Pontalo was made in, and fun facts!
whoops i forgot the masterlist here it is
she kinda looks like Freedom…
I wanted to combine her original design, a fiery phoenix named Eternal Flame, into her colors, and the LeafWing greens. Also the pink is the exact pink Dolphin’s bioluminescent scales are.
Soooo for her entire backstory I gotta explain what the roleplay was about
The roleplay was called Creature School, about… creatures. At a school. Paradox, or Flame back then, had four forms (we could have up to four forms total): A fiery colored phoenix, a manticore, a wolf with wings, and a dragon that I forgot the description for, but it wasn’t a particular species.
In the earlier parts of the roleplay, like in the 260s (pages, each page had 10 forum posts, so this roleplay had around 8740 posts) the first instance of the Pontalonion dragons was the map. I think Eclipse was the first Pontalonian dragon I created, but Torrent was changed a shortly after to be first a reincarnation of King Tiger Shark, but then later, an actual HydroWing. Paradox discovers and remembers she’s a ShapeWing and the long lost queen when Eclipse gives her a scroll of the Pontalo tribes, and she hears it in her dreams of her memories of the Great ShapeWing Genocide. She is frightened of BloodWings, who are shortly introduced a couple of pages in the roleplay, the first BloodWing called Diabolos, who was a minor villain.
Torrent and Paradox had three eggs, (in the 300s) Shapeshifter, who mostly looked like a ShapeWing, Dolphin, who looks like a mix between a ShapeWing and HydroWing, and Seashell, who mostly looks like a HydroWing.
Another BloodWing named Abaddon, but not actually a BloodWing and is a seperate species in disguise, opens portals that allowed creatures from other universes to come. This was called the portal plot. It was around page 370-480. They had to stop him and shut the portals after returning the new people.
The school had been destroyed multiple times, (like three times, spread out in the 50s-200s) and the final school the ogs (they were students at the beginning) (Flame, Dagger, Misty, and Fang, which my three friends and I played) created and were the staff/administration, lots of our ocs attended. Paradox’s dragonets attended, too. There was a motto that all creatures were equal or something like that, bullying was not permitted.
The roleplay focused on a school plot on and off, but it was basically the insane adventures of the ogs and later other ocs. It was focused in the first 100-200s? and then in the 600s and mentioned sometimes
Knight the SwordWing was born in the 500s! He ran off from his adoptive parent who was played by one of my friends and wanted to prove to others? idk, but he had to fight off monsters sent from the Shadow Tribe that were designed to kill SwordWings for their defection. (SwordWings were actually supposed to be a Shadow Tribe defecting tribe, not BloodWings, but then I got the idea of them being former BloodWings.)
He found the ruins of the SwordWing kingdom and found his sister’s egg, protecting it from monsters.
The king of the SwordWings, Knight and Dauntless’s father, was named Sharp.
Dolphin was bullied by some SeaWings for looking weird, (page 670s) as HydroWings were thought to be extinct, and she fled school after Paradox stopped them and tried to comfort her, flying off to the ocean, and discovering the long lost HydroWings.
The Pontalonian dragons exist at the same time as the modern Pyrrhian and Pantalan dragons, but Pontalo was also there long before they were, before the Scorching. The other tribes barely know they exist, and only HydroWings were known to the Pyrrhian dragons, thought to be long gone.
ShapeWings are probably what Freedom was, or was descended from. Some ShapeWings probably traveled to Pyrrhia and Pantala and settled down there, eventually leading to the Scorching.
The roleplay was abandoned at page 874, everyone just stopped replying.
So, in short: Paradox was queen of the ShapeWings, then the genocide happened, she flees, gets amnesia after crashing on the roleplay’s land, and becomes a student, then staff, then gets a memory and reminder that she’s the ShapeWing queen. She stays on the land and slowly but surely repopulates the ShapeWings, but they all have HydroWing blood because of Torrent.
Fun facts now that I’ve reread parts of the roleplay:
The Great ShapeWing Genocide was called The Great Blood War
Eclipse was a SunWing-MoonWing hybrid, she got kicked out of her tribe and landed in Pyrrhia (where the roleplay was at in that part). She played a big role in a part of the roleplay, and she had an ex-mate named Cloud (An AirWing, which was probably my earlier version of a LightWing) who was an animus
MoonWings changed form under the full moon, their scale colors grew darker, and their spikes grew longer and sharper. Their bioluminescent scales were brighter. Also they did have a language with their bioluminescent scales, like Aquatic. However, they’re about blending into the shadows, and I removed the language because it would give them away.
there was a LightningWing named Thunder and one of my friends played a SunWing named Solar
Solar and Eclipse were supposed to get together but idk what happened to them
Eclipse is mentioned later in the roleplay and has Helios as a mate. I don’t know if it’s the same Eclipse though
Pontalo had some rules, animus dragons can only use their magic once, no hybrids, and… never show mercy to a tribe?? dumb rule but it was why the ShapeWings got wiped out but like these rules arent in place now. they suck
Torrent was supposed to be a SeaWing commander that got banished for a false accusation of “trying to kill the SeaWing queen” who was his sister, and the SeaWing king’s name was Lobster lmfao
also my friend had a few other dragon species?? RockWings, SilverWings, and TribeWings (who had three pairs of wings?). Huh. They were never mentioned again
There were supposed to be five Pontalo tribes, AirWings, MoonWings, SunWings, ThunderWings, and FireWings. ShapeWings were added later as an explanation to why Flame could change into a bunch of forms, not just those four main ones, and the genocide was setup for her backstory. HydroWings were just an ancient Pyrrhian tribe as setup for the SeaWings, but they were changed to Pontalonian somewhere in the roleplay.
the old Pontalo map looked like this
ThunderWings, now changed to LightningWings, had electric scales that could shock to the touch and were great swimmers. “They charge their scales by getting struck by lightning on their ‘lightning rod’ on their nose.” FireWings have flame scales and could scorch dragons with their touch.
SunWings were based on Heliolisk, they (were) small, had those frills on their necks, sluggish at night, and they get energy from the sun which charges up their scales. They could blast a beam of light from their mouths.
There was a tribe called the ColorWings, who were more like the RainWings and painted, which I combined into the original ShapeWings (that could only shapeshift) into the now ShapeWings.
For some reason Knight could like. Transform into his father?? Well, into the shape kinda?
In this roleplay and another roleplay I did two years ago, Knight and Dauntless can curl up into a spiky armored ball and roll at people as a form of attack. It’s funny, I’m making it canon.
There’s probably a lot of things I missed, but oh well, I don’t like rereading my roleplay stuff. It’s really bad.

Iridis Alpha (C64)
Developed/Published by: Llamasoft Released: 1986 Completed: n/a Completion: Played it so, so much and still only managed a measly score of 8740.
The thing that strikes me most about Jeff Minter after, by this point, playing nearly every game that he released until 1987, his most prolific period, is his contradictions. His games have wacky narratives and comical graphics, but also have complex designs. Then despite those complex designs, they lack strict rules to game feel, and can feel not just sloppy and frustrating but almost unfinished in some cases–like half-formed ideas, untested by anyone but Minter himself. And Minter would be quick to attack on being accused of this–clapping back in his newsletters, in a public spat with Zzap 64–but by all accounts otherwise an incredibly gracious person with a ton of time for his fans.
With that in mind, it’s kind of hard, frankly, to not be frustrated with Minter’s progress in this period. To not question if there’s some sort of unconscious self-sabotage in his releases from the high point of Ancipital, with Mama Llama and Batalyx simply incomprehensible. It feels like there’s a chip on Minter’s shoulder; that in his mind he’s showing that games are more than just action adventures where you pick up objects and take them to another room or shooters where you shoot everything you can see, but his designs are so uncompromising that no one can follow him where he’s going. And yet where he’s going often seems led by whim rather than reason.
Which brings us to Iridis Alpha. A second attempt at an overhaul of the Defender-a-like after Sheep In Space, which has all of the issues discussed above, Iridis Alpha pushes things even further than Mama Llama in terms of complexity, but is actually controllable at all, so it’s at least got that.
You play a pair of “gilbys” which are robots that either whizz around like the ship from Defender or which walk back on forth on land shooting bullets in the air like a popcorn popper if you land. Your goal is, ultimately, to survive all the waves of enemies on a level and then move to the next one.
However.
After the first 3-wave level, you’re doing this with both Gilbys at the same time, one on the top screen, one on the bottom, and you switch between them by flying through warp holes left by the enemies you kill. You have to switch between each ship regularly because if you don’t, you build up entropy in the side you’re not controlling, which leads to a death.
In addition to this, you can’t just blast wildly. Every enemy you kill gains health, which is good, because as usual you die if you take too many hits. However it’s also bad, because if you gain too much health, you also die. Meaning that you either have to take some hits or land on the ground so your Gilby can discharge some of their power (which eventually leads to a mini-game where you can gain extra lives.)
There also is an extremely complex level map that I will simply express to you now that I do not understand.
The thing that strikes any player of Iridis Alpha is that it honestly feels very good to play. Your gilby stays locked in the center of the screen; acceleration and speed feels good, the auto-fire is rewarding, and while it’s a little annoying trying to take off from the ground when you’ve landed, it’s not insurmountable. Within the first waves you’re only controlling a single Gilby, so you start to pick up the energy managing mechanics. You think–adding entropy to this won’t be too hard. I can do this.
Anyway then the next thing that happens is that the third wave features ships, "lickers", that stick to you and drain your health until you explode, and they seem to do this immediately, unfailingly and be nearly impossible to shake off so you lose all your lives and have to start again.
It is the closest, it feels, that Minter has come to straight up telling the player to fuck off.
The lickers appear. This person's game is already over, they just don't know it yet.
A game like Mama Llama is simply idiosyncratic; Hell Gate is simply pushing intensity as far as it can go. But this is naked contempt. Minter has created a hard game that requires optimum concentration, but he won’t actually even let you play it to the fullest unless you can beat a truly cruel difficulty spike that isn’t even fun in the name of making it brutally clear that he’s making a “thinking man’s shooter.”
You see, the trick here is that it’s a harsh lesson in that you can’t just use auto-fire the whole time. In order to survive this wave, you have to learn to manoeuvrer your gilby at the maximum speed you can manage, avoid the ships in front of you, and quickly turn and fire briefly to spawn lickers, who begin to track you, but die if they don’t touch you within a second. Fire constantly, you spawn them in front and too many. Don’t go fast enough, they get you. Go too fast and they fly off screen before they die.
It’s probably the worst brick wall I’ve ever faced in a video game. This isn’t, say, an exacting jump in The Lost Levels; this is having to track several things at once while having complete mastery of controls. Managing it with one gilby is a nightmare and I certainly haven’t reached the point where I can do it with two–once you unlock the “full” game they show up with regularity and you have to beat the third wave licker gauntlet for a second time upside down, providing a second difficulty spike and by that point, honestly, the game feels to chaotically unfair to want to push through.
It is astonishingly frustrating, because otherwise the game has an interesting design and feels good! You start to wonder if there’s some kind of unpleasant gatekeeping here; notably the number of enemies left in a level is listed in hexadecimal so it’d be gibberish to anyone except another programmer.
The message is clear: you aren’t part of the club. The question is how much you want to try to be.
Will I ever play it again? For me, there's a limit. The lickers are it.
Final Thought: Unusually, there actually sort of is a club for Iridis Alpha, unlike, say, Mama Llama, and the very few members seem invested in having you join it. You can read an entire book that goes over the assembly code of the game–I would argue possibly the least commercial book ever published–and there’s even a YouTube video from someone laboriously trying to explain how to play it that seems to be narrated by Jerry Springer (though he doesn’t make a point of explaining how to get past the licker ships, absurdly.) There’s even an unlisted video I found that’s another play guide too!
I appreciate this kind of thing, but seeing a rare few putting this kind of effort to express the artistry of Iridis Alpha only makes me more disappointed in what it is, a game that no human past 1987, who hasn’t just stumped up £12.95 saved up from their paper round, is going to put their time in to get past the third wave in. Christ I played it for days on end and I can’t do it consistently and using rewind feels like a cheat.
There are more missed opportunities in Minter’s career, but this might be the most insane own goal.

Just heard an exerpt from The Magnus Archives
And now I'm having an SCP AU thought:
Jaller: "Case file update. SCP-40581-2 has been cooperative with procedures. He and SCP-8601 have shown to have a level of companionship, which is really surprising because 8601 is usually the reclusive type, from what I can tell. He has been requested to-"
(Door opens)
Whenua: "Hey, sorry, did you see a dog?"
Jaller: "... What?"
Whenua: "A dog? Spaniel? Or a, uh... a Dachshund? No, those are the long ones. Not a pug, those things are fucked up now, can't even breathe because their faces were shived into their skulls."
Jaller: "Update: 8545 is interrupting me. Are you asking if I've seen one in heneral or...?"
Whenua: "No, right now. There's a dog in the facility."
Jaller: "... You let a dog inside the foundation!?"
Whenua: "Of course not! Matau did."
Jaller: "Mat-... SCP-8740 tried to breach containment? And brought in a dog instead? Why is there a DOG in the foundation if it itself is not an anomaly!?"
Whenua: "Okay. Relax. Someone was bringing in a new subject, I think, it was a pretty big box, and we had to hold the door open. And then the damn thing just slipped in, leash, harness, and all."
Jaller: "..."
Whenua: "You should've seen Vakama. I don't think he's SEEN a dog in a while. Everyone probably convinced him all dogs have rabies. Or he'll char it up. Or something to, you know, keep him around."
Jaller: "I'll handle 8601. Just make sure the dog is found and dealt with."
Whenua: "As in returned to the owner or turned into sausage because it's seen too much?"
Jaller: "..."
Whenua: "... Too much?"
Jaller: "Please. Find. The dog."
Takua(In the distance): "Aaaaaw, look at the puppy belly! Being a good pup's, not hurting anyone.
Nuju(Also in the distance): "Right, great, you saw the dog and you pet it, good job. Now move so I can get it outside."
Takua: "Are you flying, pups? Got your paws up, going, 'I'm flying!'"
Whenua: "Found the dog. Thanks, Jaller."
(Door closes)
Jaller: "... Request to staff: Arrange-"
(Ddor opens)
Whenua: "You forgot to hit record, by the way."
Jaller: "Get out!"
(Door closes)
Jaller: "(sigh) Request to staff: Arrange a day where SCPs 8545, 8740, 8604, 8544, and 8737 meet SCP-8601. The former 5 have been making repeated requests and are getting restless. 8740 in particular has utilized his abilities to slip past staff and agents in order to see 8601. Follow-up request: An investigation of 8545's claim of a new anomaly being brought in at the time of a dog coming into the foundation. And that the dog be returned to its owner unharmed. Recording end."
