ranting about tablet problems if u think u have tablet expertise help meeeee
soo heres my tablet problemmm. it seems like an issue with the tablet itself, so i'm gonna need to get a new one. the one i have is hella old, and has prolly lasted way longer than it was meant to (around 8-9 ears i think)
frustrating part is that it still mostly works... its just having a weird issue where if i press even slightly too hard the pen cuts out mid stroke. it's a single issue and it's catastrophically disruptive. I'm thinking of getting a new tablet, which means begging my roommate for money cuz I'm broke hah.
replacing it isn't easy tho. first of all, drawing tablets are hella expensive. but the thing is that if I hadn't fucked around and figured out a warranty-voiding way to charge this tablet, it wouldn't have lasted like, over 3 years without being replaced. the charging port kept breaking and it broke again after the warranty had expired.
at that point the only reason it was saved was because it had a wireless mode and I could manually remove and charge the battery with this little battery charger i got off amazon. So the charging/connection cord could be totally cut out.
but the newer version of this tablet doesn't let you remove or replace the battery, the back of it just doesn't have that accessibility. so i'm looking at other tablet companies (cuz this one sucked anyway) but charging ports breaking doesn't seem super uncommon regardless of tablet company, and i can't find anything that has all of these things:
right size(around 8-10 x 5 inches)
has wireless capabilities
has a replaceable battery in case the charging port breaks.
it might just be that i'm very bad at searching, or that google sucks now (i'm trying duckduckgo and bing too idk if they'll be better), but still!! is and its !! very frustrating haha!! cuz i dont wanna be corralled into spending a lot of money (or lets be real, asking for a lot of money) and having to spend EVEN MORE money later but !! i cant!! find anything :DDDD

Things that happen at work:
I taught a middle school teacher how to change her own car battery this afternoon. It was super cute how involved she was, how many questions she had.
So, step by step, here is how you change a car battery.
1) Batteries are secured in place in some way, usually with a couple of metal pieces that bolt into the frame and keep the battery in place on the plate it sits on. You don’t have to fully remove these, you just need to get them loose enough that you can move them to the side and get the battery out. (Side note, if you have pretty nails or care about your cuticles AT ALL, wear literally any kind of rubber gloves…also wear clothes you don’t care about?)
2) disconnect the black/negative charge battery clamp
3) disconnect the red/positive battery clamp
4) pull the old battery out
5) put the new battery in
6) put the corrosion protection grease and felt terminals on the new battery terminals (corrosion grease guards metal, apply accordingly, slather with your heart)
7) put the clamp back on the red/positive side and tighten the bolts back up (remember if you accidentally loosened anything else up in the process of removing, tighten that up as well)
8) put the clamp back on the black/negative side and tighten the bolts back up (ask your self, is there anything else I loosened? Yes? Tighten it back up. Did you touch it at all at any point? Make sure it’s exactly how you left it…)
Slather whatever is left of the terminal protector grease over every metal part of the terminals, and you are done!
Keep in mind, the protective grease is there specifically to prevent corrosion, not stop it entirely. You should still check your batteries every other month or so (only when it’s really dry out, if it’s wet but warm check your battery once a month, if it’s wet and cold as fuck check the battery once every other week)
Also, if you buy a new battery from a retailer, keep an eye on your warranty. Some batteries (the most expensive) come with a three year warranty. The cheapest come with a 90 day warranty.
If you have $300 to $500 to shell out on a nice battery, it would absolutely be theft or some kind or warranty fraud to change out your nice expensive battery for a brand new one right before the warranty expires.
It would be especially morally heinous to the company if you did that on a weekend day during peak business traffic hours (ten am till closing basically, but aim for the late morning rush on Saturday if being overlooked is your priority, holy Jesus in a hand basket that line is horrifying in whole new ways?!,!)
Yah. Chew bubble gum and steal batteries legally. You’re just renewing your warranty, mmkay? (L
Be careful about how you go about this…because it is in fact heinous to a major corporation with a team of lawyers. You should realistically only be needing a battery every four to six years, which is why the warranty cuts out at three. So don’t come in the last month of your warranty…come in two or three months early and have the ability to blame weather (extreme heat or extreme cold) in order to get a warranty swap.
Pay attention to your warranty.

Who will maintain and repair Chinese Dongfeng cars outside Riga [in Latvia]?
Well, for at least a month now, you can officially buy Chinese Dongfgeng and its sub-brand cars in Riga. Since the experience of our motorists with Chinese vehicles is still small, there are many questions about warranties, availability of spare parts and after-sales service in general. The after-sales manager of Dongfeng importer Wess Mobility, Nauris Zviedris, reassures us that there are no technical differences from the products known in Europe. The standard warranty is 5 years or 100,000 km, but for some sub-brands it is 150,000 km. The warranty for electric car and PHEV batteries is 8 years and 160,000 km. The next hot issue is spare parts. They are currently available for all models. Those needed quickly are on site, the rest can be ordered from a newly opened warehouse in the Netherlands. Future Dongfeng dealers will be supplied with the special tools. The same applies to the training of service personnel, which will take place online or even in China. The Dongfeng owner, on the other hand, will not need to go to the dealer for software updates at all. And very soon Dongfengs will also have a user manual in the national language. Devlog 1 (1/25/24): Why This Is Pointless
In my intro post, I mentioned how it would be much easier to map the 12 chromatic notes of Western music to the 3 action buttons and 8 directions of Undertale, and how I won't be doing that for purely aesthetic reasons. I also want to mention why everything I'm doing to my violin is completely stupid.
If you want to follow in my footsteps, you shouldn't do it the way I'm doing it. You probably can't.
My violin is a Yamaha EV-205 five-string electric from the late aughts/early 10's. I recently learned that this violin is no longer in production, so there's no way your standard Joe Schmoe can pick up this tutorial, nor would they want to if they were in the market for an electric violin, because they already sell electric violins that are MIDI controller enabled. You should buy that and follow the software specs of CZR drums and their MIDI-to-controller software partner/whatever. I simply do not want to spend more money on an electric violin when I already have one with the right hardware (individual pickups for each of the five strings). So I will be voiding the warranty that likely no longer exists and busting open my violin to see what I can patch together.

When I busted this component (pictured above) open I immediately found a not-so-complex PCB where I could locate each of the individual string inputs. I have yet to see whether those ports will give me the inputs I need - golly, I have yet to learn how to solder enough to access those ports!! - but the visibility gives me hope. it doesn't look hard, especially for someone who has been low-key interested in soldering for like 15 years (since my Pokemon Gold copy's battery died and I learned the ways to replace it) but I can't say I know exactly what data flows through that part of the circuit and how easy it would be to extract and manipulate.
I've done a lot of research into what I would need to take analog audio signal(s) and transform them into MIDI or some other binary/digital data. The first thing I found was an Arduino library, so I knew this wouldn't be hard. I only have one Arduino (knock-off) and I didn't like the idea of buying four more (one for each string) to get the MIDI values when I would probably be connected to a computer the whole time no matter what.
This led me to where I'm sitting pretty right now, at a Python library (Python being my favorite language) that uses its GitHub .md file to explain why Markov chains are important. Reader, do you know how much I love Markov chains? Did you know that in my sophomore year of college I created a musical AI by programming Markov chains in Python??? How is it that all of my interests loop in upon each other in the same way that my first and only job out of college involved natural language processing in Python just like my senior project where I did language analysis on okcupid profiles???? Is time in fact a flat circle? I don't have time to think about this because I want to program violin to play undertale pleas
Where I'll be starting is with this library and with monophonic input (one note at a time rather than interpreting multiple notes at once e.g. multiple strings played simultaneously) to make a controller of any kind work. But I have a lot of reading to do to see how Markov chains are involved. With it being both Python and linear algebra, I have the capacity to adjust the code to do whatever I want it to do. Given this insane opportunity I can't not do all the research possible to finetune things to my precise desires. If I were satisfied with "good enough", I would be playing monophonic input the whole way through. Let's go insane, boys.
