     yuseong bay is a small town so there are more slow days in the clinic than busy ones. even with the addition of the resort and its tourists, aera still can say that she spends more time in the break room waiting for any patients to come in than actually doing her work as a nurse, which honestly isn't bad, even more so when it means that so few people in yuseong bay or in the resort are getting hurt. but it does still get a little boring sometimes, it still forces aera to find something to do with her time when it isn't being occupied with her patients and crochet has been that something ever since she was in technical school, trying to fight off the urge to drop everything because classes and exams could be a little too overwhelmingly stressful.

     but the thing is that aera sometimes does end up losing the notion of time when she gets too engrossed in whatever she's making this time — a request from a friend that wanted to matching sweater for them and their cat — so it's nice to have someone around that will remind her to not spend her whole lunch break with crochet needle and a thread on her hand instead of eating, that someone being selena — the part time recepcionist of the clinic. selena is nice and aera has honestly yet to witness her getting genuinely upset at the nurse for her habit, but it doesn't stop aera from feeling a little self conscious when she steps out of the break room with her wallet and cellphone in hand.

     "i haven't eaten yet!" she answers in person to the text that she received from her friend, deciding to completely ignore the part where selena called her out since aera was a bad liar anyway, any excuse that her mind could produce being so ridiculous it was obviously not the truth. "i was actually thinking we could go together." which isn't necessarily a lie since aera did think of it when she saw selena's text, assuming that the other hasn't had her own lunch yet. "and then you can tell me all bout what wild thing that you mentioned in your text."

     taeho feels so light it's almost scary.

     but then he supposes that this is the whole point of getting high, even more probably that being the reason they use that expression to describe this anyway. besides it does feel nice, this feeling almost like he's floating — each step with a little skip to it, as if gravity wasn't holding him down as much as it usually would — even though selena's hand feels very real where he's holding it; just lacing their pinkies together because taeho was genuinely scared that he might float away and he has not only classes but work the next day, he didn't have the luxury to spend his day away quite literally in the clouds and most importantly how would he come down later? could he even survive up there for the rest of his life if that was the case?

     taeho looks at selena then and is tempted to drap the jacket that he's wearing on her, not only because the night is chilly around them, the weather still holding onto the last remnants of spring before welcoming summer, but also because she seemed so light, what if she's the one floating away? what if the strength of his pinky isn't enough to hold her down? what if—

     he decides to hold her hand properly before his mind can spiral into more disastrous scenarios, even gives it a little squeeze just to be sure that selena is secure by his side, that she won't be taken away unless taeho is dragged with her. only then he allows himself to tune his attention back to little game that they're playing, remembering that he's supposed to look around and try to spot something for selena to guess.

     taeho hums for a lingering moment, connecting his thumb and index finger before hovering the makeshift one eye binocle over his left eye and consequently making him close his right one. "i spy with my little eye—" he starts even though he didn't decide what exactly he's spying, looking around to see if he catches anything that is easy enough for selena to guess without difficulties but still making it fun. but then his eyes end up falling on selena and that gives him in an idea. "the prettiest girl of yuseong bay." he finishes with a grin.

     "hm," taeho takes a moment to look at the endless sea of colorful beads and threads, all materials for their friendship bracelets. he's tempted to say black because it's enough of a neutral color that he wouldn't have to worry about matching colors and whatnot, but then he thinks that black is a little too bland for a friendship bracelet; but then he thinks that selena might prefer to make something colorful instead and that's why his final answer ends up being— "something blue with a little green, something like the sea." he doesn't see any sort of sea green or turquoise in the middle of the beads, at least not at first glance, but he does see a couple of seashells and whatnot so he's sure that selena will have plenty with fun with them.

     "fun is a little too vague." he tilts his head do the side, thinking that it's even more so when moon taeho doesn't always grasp the full concept of fun, besides he's too scared to disappoint selena even more, to make something that she won't like but will wear it anyway just for the principle of it, or even worse— make things between them even more awkward because she was the one who proposed for them to make friendship bracelets and now she had to also make excuses to why she isn't wearing the one that taeho made for her, hesitant in telling him that she simply didn't like it. "can you be a little more specific?" taeho asks, perhaps a little too stiffly, wincing internally at his own tone and words a second later. he doesn't want to sound like he's picking a fight again. "i mean— just—" but words fail him once more, anything that his mind tries to come up with to ease his awkwardness and soften his tone only seems like it'll make things even more. "nevermind, something fun. i can work with that."

     taeho knows that it's his fault, that he should be the one to apologize because he so obviously crossed a line; no matter how frustrated he felt and how much his words came from a place of care, a want for selena to be happy, it doesn't give him the right to treat her like someone who didn't have the ability to make decisions about her own love life, about whom she decides to go on a date with. it isn't taeho's place to take her by the hand and try to drag her to whom he thinks would be a better choice for her (even more so when he'd be dragging her to himself of all people). he knows that; the thing that he doesn't know is how to bring it up— how to gather enough courage to face head on the dense nimbus of awkwardness that is relentlessly clouding their friendship.

     at least selena didn't seem mad; quite the contrary, considering that she was the one that suggested for them to do something a little different, to make friendship bracelets for each other as if she was trying to quietly say that they're still friends. taeho was relieved, he really was, but he still couldn't completely pretend that argument never happened, not when it kept repeating itself in his head and made him think of things, to realize feelings that won't do any good for him, much less for his roommate.

     "should we order take out for dinner?" taeho asks just so any heavy silence won't settle between them. "what are you feeling like eating?"

it's windy outside. the kind of wind that howls out threats of an imminent storm, but for now, selena leaves her bedroom window open. the curtains catch most of the breeze, and what they don't catch serves as a tool to keep the room cool amidst the heavy, warm air of uncertainty. she and taeho pretend that nothing's out of place. it's unusual for her, this kind of avoidance, but she maintains it for the sake of his comfort and their routines. some things are better left addressed, and besides, the window's open. should the storm get too bad, she'll close it.

they’re sitting on the floor atop one of the many handmade blankets that her mother had gifted them upon moving into their apartment. it’s spread out seamlessly on the hardwood floor and provides just enough space for them to sit across from each other with friendship bracelet materials and a cheap loom in between. there’s a six-pack of green apple smirnoff ice to selena’s left and a shitty bluetooth speaker to her right. not playing anything yet—just set up in preparation for when things get awkward again, if things get awkward again. a last ditch effort to prevent an uncomfortable silence from settling in. she’s got her fingers metaphorically crossed that it won’t be needed.

"what colors do you want me to use for yours?" she asks, accompanied by the soft 'pop' of a tupperware lid coming off. inside the container, the choices of thread are chaotically strewn together. the lid removal carries with it some kind of smell that she can't really place; the smell of the past maybe, of the last time she'd made a bracelet with these materials. 2013, maybe.

Today's oracle card comes from #SoulTreesSelfDiscoveryCards and is about Emotional Release. As an empath, this is an extremely important practice for me to remember. Even if you aren't an empath, being able to let the build up of emotional baggage release and cleanse your chakras and inner being can be a beautiful experience of self love.      the first thing that taeho noticed about her is the fact that selena talks a lot; but not in a bad way. it just showed she was comfortable with any and all kinds of people (even with someone with a frown that seemed tattooed on their face). actually he was a little jealous of how easily she seemed to just get along with everyone, speaking to strangers like they're old friends. he was a little jealous that selena seemed like someone who was easy to love, of the way that she seemed to captivate anyone around her; of the way she, in a way, captivated taeho too even if he (now guiltily) thought that they'd never get along because they were so obviously different from each other, the tale of an extrovert that adopted an introvert, being nothing more than just that— a trope that people liked to use to write their fictional work.

     he still thinks that selena talks a lot; but not in a bad way. it just shows that she's comfortable with any and all kinds of people (even with someone with a frown that seemed tattooed on their face and isn't the best of the moods in the morning), it also means that she knows how to fill the silence that taeho leaves between them sometimes even when desperate in finding a way to fill it himself, though still being mindful of taeho's social battery which is something that he's grateful for and a gesture that he finds immensely sweet and thoughtful, even more so when he's more than used to people ignoring that instead of taking it into consideration.

     one thing that didn't change in taeho's impression, however, is how selena seems like one of those people that others says that are living their first life. he doesn't know how to really explain it besides how he feels like selena looks at life with hints of awe and excitement where taeho can only face that same life with pragmatic nonchalance; if not downright pessimism; this being another aspect that makes taeho incredibly fond of her even if he doesn't think he'll ever admit it out loud.
