Mystictober Day 12: Best VNM/Saddest Moment

Summary: The broadcast failed. Saeyoung is a liability.

The Agency doesn't like liabilities.

A/N: About a year ago I thought too much about Saeray's Normal End and this was the result. As cute as the scene on the island is, there's one RFA member conspicuously absent from his narration. We can guess what happened to Saeyoung and I'm not okay.

Thank you to Mystictober for finally giving me the motivation to tidy this up and post it. Playing a little loose with the prompt, since it's not an on-screen moment, but I digress.

Saeyoung doesn't know what's going on past the fucking cage he's been thrown in. It's a warehouse, by the look of it, with the windows blacked out and a large steel grate blocking him from the rest of the room. 

He'd fought like a cornered animal when they came for him. The rational part of his brain knew it would probably be safer to play along, just for the moment. If he struggled, they were more likely to kill him and be done with it than whatever else they were planning, but it was instinct. And beside that... he knew.

Saeyoung knew.

The goons who followed Vanderwood into the house didn't look like they were all from the agency. Some definitely were, but others... they looked too clean. Too put together. Too official.

Secret agents don't wear dress shoes to a kidnapping.

He definitely did some damage to his assailants. If he'd been armed, he might have even gotten away. But he wasn't, and he didn't, even though he fought and kicked and screamed and scratched and bit as if—no, because—his life depended on it. But he was outnumbered and outgunned, and they had the element of surprise. He was covered in blood that wasn't his own when something jabbed his neck and he knew he was done for. He was unconscious before he knew what happened.

When he woke up he was on a concrete floor in whatever building they'd dragged him to. Knowing the agency, it's out in the middle of nowhere. Saeyoung won't give them the satisfaction of screaming, but he knows no one would hear him if he did.

His options are limited... if not nonexistent. He's handcuffed so tightly he's losing sensation in the tips of his fingers. He's dislocated his thumb before to wiggle out of handcuffs, but he knows even that won't help him now. His glasses broke in the struggle; he's unarmed and no one knows what happened to him.

If he can't figure out something fast, he's fucked.

And that was even before he showed up. The monster who had been chasing him and his brother for over twenty years. The monster that he had, apparently, been working for—one of the Agency's best clients. A monster with a deceptive smile that fooled an entire country, but not Saeyoung. Never Saeyoung.

Saeyoung knows exactly what kind of monster Saejoong Choi is.

The second time Saejoong comes to see him, there are no pleasantries. Not even the illusion of them. Saeyoung's eyes immediately lock on the object in Saejoong's hand.

"Thought you wanted to use me for something," Saeyoung says. 

"That was until that little stunt you and the other brat pulled. Nuisances until the very end."

“What the hell are you talking about?"

"Don't act like you don't know!" 

A kick sends him sprawling face-first to the floor. A boot makes contact with his back, pinning him to the rough concrete. "You two vermin and that damn RFA are trying to destroy everything I've spent my life working for. I'm sure you're the one who dug everything up, even if the other one did the legwork. I should have taken you out sooner."

Saeyoung hears the safety on the gun click and he knows, he knows, that this is it. The RFA and... Saeran?... Saeran... tried to take down their father. He doesn't know how it could be possible, he hasn't seen Saeran in so long—

In that moment it hits him: he's never going to see Saeran again. And if his brother and the RFA tried something so blatant, so public, to get rid of Saejoong... every single one of them is in danger. And there's nothing Saeyoung can do about it.

He failed, and he's about to die for it.

Even if his soul is being overcome with despair—Not Saeran, Saeran please be safe, I wish I could have seen you one more time... please be safe—he won't go down quietly. Saeyoung is a cockroach, and roaches don't die easily.

"At least look me in the eye when you kill me," he growls. "Or are you a goddamn coward?"

There's a pause, and for a moment Saeyoung thinks they'll just shoot him and be done with it, but then the weight disappears from his back and someone snaps their fingers. He's yanked up to his knees by his hair and it takes everything in him to suppress a wince. He won't give his father the satisfaction. Not even once.

The monster haunting his nightmares glares down at him with a look of pure hatred. Saeyoung is sure he has the same look on his own face, and that thought makes him feel things he doesn't want to unpack (at least he won't have to).

"Normally I don't care for getting my hands dirty," Saejoong says, pressing the cold metal of the gun to Saeyoung's forehead. "But you two pests are a special case. You've been a thorn in my side for far too long."

Saeyoung looks him in the eye and musters up his last act of defiance. "One day, you are going to die. One day, everything you've built up will mean nothing. You will be a cold, hard corpse in the ground like the rest of us. Bloated, rotting, festering. Death will find you one day, no matter how much you try to run. And so will I."

He leans up; the gun presses hard against him, but he doesn't flinch, doesn't even blink as he stares his father down. "I may be going there first, but one day you will die and you will rot and when you do, I will drag you down to Hell myself. You'll never escape me. We'll burn together for eternity."

He spits out a glob of blood and phlegm, right on Saejoong's shiny politician's shoes. 

They say you never hear the shot that gets you. 

Saeyoung doesn't.

I did. I think things are looking very good for us. Tim has had every opportunity to remove or distance Eddie from Buck's story and he's not. B*mmy's seem to think that's what's happening here but it isn't. When characters and their storylines are being distanced they don't get talked about like this. And this isn't just the journalists inferring this is Tim's own words.

Tim could have distanced Buck and Eddie in s7. If Buddie wasn't happening he could and should have made 704 about Buck and T*mmy and not really included Eddie at all. But really that episode was very loudly about Buck's feelings for Eddie.

You could make the argument that Tim wanted to wait and see what the audience response was going to be to T*mmy before he made any major changes. Which he had plenty of time to do that leading up to the final two eps of s7 considering T*mmy wasn't in eps 707 and 708. 709 and 710 also went through significant rewrites before filming so there was definitely time for Tim to put more focus on B/T but he didn't. He didn't even have T*mmy at the hospital with Buck and that wouldn't have required taking time away from the other characters at all, just like a shot of him there sitting with Buck.

Consistently since B/T became a thing Tim has told us in every way imaginable that Buddie is more important and that Buddie (canon) is the goal. Even think back to how Buddie was handled vs B/T at the bachelor party. B*mmy's make all these excuses for what happened there but the main thing is Tim decided he wanted Buck and Eddie dressing up in a couple's custom. He wanted Eddie to be the one there spending the whole night with Buck not T*mmy. He easily could have had T*mmy there instead of Eddie or had it be the three of them there but he didn't.

You can tell this pattern is clearly going to continue when you read what Tim is saying about s8. We already know T*mmy is just stepping stone to Buddie, Lou himself said as much in one of his early cameos. Tim is likely going to use T*mmy for dramatic tension while Eddie has his feelings realization about Buck.

I suspected this was where Tim would go with things this season I just wasn't sure if he was going to bring Lou back after the all the drama him and his fans caused. I'm assuming he got told to stop interacting with his psycho fan base though because we now know he's coming back yet he's not been communicating with his fans at all. He likely was contracted to come back for a few eps with the stipulation he can't cause any more problems.

T*mmy will likely be around for a few eps while Eddie's storyline is getting more of the focus. Hopefully we'll get some jealous and pinning Eddie cause that would just be delicious. I don't see T*mmy lasting beyond mid season if even that. I know a lot of people aren't happy about him coming back and I'm right there with you but also as someone who has been waiting and hoping for Buddie to happen for years I've never seen it so within our grasp. This feels like it will be our year.

The creative choices on the show are as subjective as each of the viewer's interpretations.

I think a lot of why I personally feel deeply uncomfortable n resistant is the asymmetry.

I get the need for variety. The same thing may be expressed differently for different characters. A healing journey will differ from person to person. Each step is also taken on a personalized timeline.

But I can't help but think of the asymmetry of how the show dealt with Mason vs Beckett n even Dixon. They condemned Mason immediately at his worst but dug deep to show the sides of Beckett n Dixon that were still human despite it all.

The trigger shot scene with Beckett felt like 0 to 100 in his reconciliation with Maya. It felt like a 12-step program of which he skipped many steps when it came to Maya. From the get-go, we saw a sexist, incompetent captain who was demeaning to his team n constantly put them under stress n in danger, on top of endangering civilians n even equipment. For months, we saw this middle-aged man in a position of power, take perverse joy in bullying a younger female subordinate to appease his ego. That was workplace harassment. He also took out his unresolved trauma on the people around him, in this case, people he had authority over. Alcoholism was not the sole reason for all his bad behavior. Even if it was, it should not be used to excuse it.

The team, esp Maya, was trapped in this hostile work environment sanctioned by the female chief. This was a more common n insidious manifestation of toxic masculinity, one that was amplified by his position of power, n sometimes even supported by women, when their goals aligned in the power struggle.

Yet the show gave so much more grace n compassion to the bullies than the bullied. The team treated Beckett n Ross with more kindness n respect than they earned, n less kindness n more apathy towards Maya than she deserved.

Then he was given a long, carefully constructed redemption arc, while Mason, a rushed condemnation arc.

It felt like 100 to 0 with Mason. We saw Mason briefly in earlier seasons, mainly thru the eyes of Maya. We missed a lot of the in b/w. We caught him again at his worst. We only saw the side that was full of hate ideology, but not his side that was also human. We knew about his addiction n homelessness. But we didn’t see how as a young abused person w/o positive role models n a support system, he was vulnerable to these hate groups, which he clung to, when offered him just a semblance of belonging or respect. He had not learned to let go of his resentment of their parents n Maya but taught to transfer this unresolved hate to fill a meaning void.

The scene itself b/w Maya n Mason was great. It was an urgent n imperative story to tell. Maya's actions were right n necessary. But in the bigger scheme of things, it felt like a quick tie-up of loose ends, of a once-beloved brother, who came n went abruptly. Despite it being a logical narrative choice to wrap up the nature/nurture discussions of Marina n discovery that Maya's deepest fears about herself manifested in her bro instead. It's heartbreaking n yet disheartening that it was again about queer hate when it came to another main queer character on the show.

It is just jarring to juxtapose Mason with Beckett in 703 then 707. Also juxtaposing his empathy towards Maya with the lack thereof from the others, despite everyone having just been thru 706 n having witnessed Maya's breakdown. So, in a way, I see the actions of these characters as being designed with the goal to emphasize Beckett's empathetic side, in support of his arc.

When looking at a scene with 2 scene partners, what it is really about? Who it is really for? Would the scene be the same if one is replaced?

There are many different takes on this. For me, it was really about Maya, but choosing Beckett as the scene partner made the scene more for him. If it were for Maya, other scene partners would be more meaningful n realistic. Esp those who earned their right for her to be vulnerable with. Maya, who bottled her feelings, let alone spill her deeper emotions, to someone whom she never had a proper conversation with, not to mention a fraught shared history. To add, alone in a small enclosed space, while administering a shot that made her even more vulnerable.

For the realism argument, this was not more realistic to me than having Carina, for a show which took a lot of liberties. It was a choice to design the circumstances to make Carina n the others unavailable n combine 2 scenes together. Carina's also Maya's life partner n best friend. A more realistic choice for Maya to share this devastating heartbreak n grieving process with. It was a big aspect of their marriage. We saw many discussions b/w them yet when it finally came to the conclusion, it was with the least likely person, an almost stranger.

I see the trigger shot as part of Marina's baby journey I wish we get to see them undergoing together. It reminded me of 5b in that Marina's story about their own baby journey - again with someone of a fraught shared history, of a different nature - was more about him n to lead to his own bio family story. Marina's story was messy n got nowhere. And here we r, seasons later, rushing thru it.

It's not that Maya/ Carina or Marina should not have scenes with others. It's that it's usually more about the others even if it's their storyline. Or they r the backdrop for others' drama. They either isolate Marina or suddenly include them or one of them in an in-depth discussion of their private matters with others, usually something we hear about for the first time. I just don't remember something like that happening with other characters. Is it too much to ask to see a married w|w couple, with little screentime, share a meaningful conversation or moment first, also or exclusively? We so rarely see such a rep on TV. The show is not about Marina, but shouldn't their own story reasonably prioritize them?

707/Seven x F!Agent!Reader

WIP | Summary : Beloved Agent 707 is struggling to finish his case assignment on time, so he approaches his rival for help!

Alternative Title : Make A Joke

“This is impossible.”

Seven had finally hit a brick wall. In all his years of hacking and infiltration, he had never come across something that had stumped him this hard. He was seriously beginning to question his abilities at this stage as he stared at the coded screen in despair.

How many days did he have left to gather the information he needed? Seven checked the assignment log that rested on his desk, and he felt the colour physically drain from his face.

One day.

Seven couldn’t prevent himself from dropping his head forwards onto the desk. His forehead slammed into the keyboard, causing a bunch of error codes to fly up on the screen. The young teen groaned in pain before sitting up straight again, rubbing his hand tenderly at the spot where a mark had appeared.

Feeling slightly embarrassed, Seven peeked around the room to check if anyone had witnessed his moment of weakness. Luckily, everyone seemed too focused on their own tasks to notice the awkward reaction from Seven.

And that’s when he accidentally locked eyes with Agent 666 from across the room. She had glanced up from her computer at that very moment, as if she had somehow known that Seven was going to look at her. Seven felt his face burn a bright red and he instantly looked away. If this were a cartoon, Seven was sure steam would be blowing from his ears.

Agent 666 had joined the agency three months prior. Already she had taken the Intelligence Agency by storm, impressing all the superiors with her talents for the hacking world. She joined multiple projects and brought statistics up fast, just like Seven had done when he joined a couple years prior.

Seven wasn’t jealous. No, he wasn’t jealous at all. Why would Seven be jealous of another agent’s achievements? It didn’t make sense to be. But, Seven couldn’t help but constantly check on Agent 666’s progress, knowing that she was always busy and swamped with work, just to see how she coped with the pressure of it all.

Would Agent 666 crumble under the pressure of this assignment?

Seven involuntarily groaned aloud at the very thought. He tilted his head back and shot a small glare of frustration at the air vents in the ceiling, wanting to blame something for his difficulty in completing this case. Truthfully, there wasn’t anyone else to blame but himself—clearly he wasn’t as good as he thought himself to be.

‘I need help…’ Seven thought, finally admitting defeat on himself. ‘Maybe I should speak with Vanderwood about this?’

But that seemed like a stupid idea. Agent Vanderwood loved to tease Seven at any given opportunity. He was an annoying pest that always hovered over his shoulder to check his progress, and he always had some sort of smart ass comment to make. If Seven were to admit to Vanderwood that he was struggling, Vanderwood would no doubt make his life a living hell with jokes.

Though, who else could Seven request help from? The senior agents were far too intimidating to approach, and they sometimes had a snarky attitude when it came to Seven due to his age. They would also think less of Seven if they heard him asking for help on a case that they found tricky. Seven didn’t want that.

Then, an idea came to mind.

‘Would Agent 666 be willing to help me?’

There hadn’t been many conversations between Seven and Agent 666. It wasn’t that Seven didn’t have the chance to speak with her, but rather the fact that he didn’t know what to speak about with her. She was very reserved and kept herself distant from everyone; she had yet to smile or laugh, and she just seemed plain miserable despite being an expert at her job. Seven knew he could relate with Agent 666 somewhat, especially seeing as they were both of the same age, but how was he supposed to strike up a conversation?

Seven pushed aside his doubts and opened a private messaging system between himself and Agent 666. It only took a few minutes to do, but it would be effective and could easily maintain his dignity in case she rejected his request. If that were the case, Seven could easily destroy all evidence of him even asking.

707 : i have a question

Seven nervously leaned back from the monitor and began playing with his hands. He watched eagerly for a message to appear, and he nearly fell out of his chair with excitement as a response appeared.

666 : what’s your question?

707 : I’m struggling with my assignment. I can’t infiltrate the system properly without being located. Are you able to take a look?

666 : …

Seven held his breath.

Would she reject him?

666 : okay.

Seven couldn’t help but grin widely as he began sending over the details for Agent 666 to look at. As soon as he hit send, he discreetly glanced over his shoulder to gauge her reaction, and he was in awe to see how focused she appeared while reading the uploaded documents.

30 minutes later, Agent 666 replied to the private log again.

666 : the code is *** ** ***** * ***. you’ll have less than 5 minutes to retrieve the information before the server resets and kicks you out. the algorithm changes every 15 minutes.

Seven clapped his hands together and wasted no time in diving back into the assignment. He typed as fast as his fingers would allow him to, and only briefly stopped to adjust his headphones back onto his head. Once into the server, Seven began downloading files from every section possible, ensuring that nothing was left untouched.

The last file finished downloading before the server became corrupted and forced Seven out. However, Seven was deeply satisfied and set to immediate work in decrypting the files he had stolen. Within 15 minutes, Seven had required all the information, plus extras, to complete his assignment. Everything was sent over to his supervisor, and if it could be wrapped in a neat little bow then that’s what Seven would have done.

707 : thanks for your help, I really appreciate it

666 : it’s no problem… I was surprised that you even asked for my help to begin with, I thought it was a joke

A joke? Seven frowned.

707 : jokes can cost us our lives here, I would never joke about something so dangerously important

666 : I see… then would I perish if I made a joke now?

707 : what joke is it?

666 : well…

666 : they call you the God of hacking…

666 : … so I must be the Devil

Seven felt the corners of his lips twitch upwards into a smile. He chuckled humorously. Seven turned his head in Agent 666’s direction, and he smiled even wider upon seeing that she was already looking back at him. She gave a small, shy wave, which encouraged Seven to wave back in a similar manner.

God, why was his heart beating so fast? Seven concluded that it must have been the adrenaline rush from completing the assignment on time. He was cutting the deadline rather close, after all.

His sweat was running; his hands burned the metal he'd taken from the back of his car after arriving in more than a hurry. He'd told you to stay in the apartment for your own safety, considering there's not only the face of his brother being part of the opponent group who guided you to the RFA. Ever since leaving behind Vanderwood at his bunker, Saeyoung had been standing on hot coals with their wellbeing. So why couldn't you simply listen when telling you're in great danger? Even more so than before?

Was it curiosity, perhaps it's anticipation to cope with the fact of him snapping at you. And there you disobeyed either way; leaving the walls once he's out in order to gather needed equipment for his research. It's no surprise as he should've known you're owning a talent for causing problems by now. However, he'd not figured you're that tired of life by discharging his warnings. The moment he realized that the car in front of the apartment was not just familiar in brand, but also one he's well acquainted with ever since joining the agency unwillingly, the panic set in. With speed of light he chased down the stairs, knowing exactly what would happen if he's incapable of rescuing you.

These hackers knew even less fun than most of his place. It's his luck for having not only his gun, the taser was hanging at his left side of the belt. Like this he was confident of beating at least five people if managing the defense well. He pushed the doors open, only to be greeted by covered faces that all stared back at the nosie. The shot rang through his ears like a tinnitus; catching too much attention. One of the three guys still holding your unconscious body, ready to be thrown into the trunk. Saeyoung couldn't think; all he's able to see was red and feel the fire that's usually kept in place burn down his body. He lifted the gun, pointing it at the unknown man holding you up.

“You better buckle up and give her back if you wanna walk away alive from this godforsaken place!”

You've woken up with a pounding headache. Growling low in the back of your throat as the light from above burned through your eyelids, forcing you to turn around to the side. Your body ached and it let you hiss out in pain. Not sure what's going on; you blinked reluctantly until you're making out the color of the walls belonging to the former RFA leader. Seems you're back at the apartment already. You pulled your legs higher while grabbing harder at the soft blankets.

You couldn't remember anything, the last thing flashing into your mind had been how you checked your pockets to ensure you've put your phone away. Ready to leave and get something to eat for Saeoyung and yourself after his hard work. Depsite him treating you coldly, you're not about to let him starve the whole day. Least of all when still feeling painful for his situation, you understood he's pained and needed time to recover and process everything that took place in such a short period of time.

“Ngh… Ugh.”

You sighed annoyed at the scratching pain inside your brain. Frowing your brows together, you turned to the other side and find the surroundings mostly empty. Regardless, Saeyoung stood with the back to you at the kitchen counter, his body crouched a little with his eyes focusing onto he sink. What's with that posture, you thought as suspicions began creeping up your spine. You licked your dry lips; eyes snapping open wide by the taste of blood. You immediately lifted your index finger to the skin, and indeed, your lip must've split.

“Saeyoung…?”

Scared of the thick and gloomy air, you called out for the redhead. His shoulders stiffened up and he grazed your eyes briefly over his shoulder before going back to whatever he's doing over at the other side of the room.

“Don't. Just be quiet.”

The bitter tone left guilt laying heavy in your stomach, twisting your guts until the bed's uncomfortable under your weight. You didn't know what to say since you're unaware what happened, did you fell down and ended up unconscious? Have you perhaps fainted from the lack of exercise? Almost impossible, you're in good shape lately, thus simply blacking out made no sense. You shook your head unaware.

“What happened…?”

He exhaled sharp through his nose; now it's confirmed to you. He was angry. Or maybe even more pissed, for that matter.

“I told you not to leave the damn apartment!”

He hissed back, pulling a white fabric higher and lowering it back down out of your sight. A silent gasp escaped you; it's a bandage.

“I… Did you got hurt?”

You asked worried for his condition. Saeyoung never made the impression of caring for his own health, now you were concerned something injured him instead. The hacker glossed over the question by using the silent treatment at you. Your fingers scratched at the mattress restlessly; what now? Should you keep prying or rather leave him be until he's talking voluntarily? No, you closed your eyes once your world started spinning. It's very likely he's not going to enlighten you by himself. Therefore you cleared your dry throat.

“Have I done something, Saeyoung? It's scary not knowing what happened… Can you please tell me?”

It sounded like pleading in your own ears, not that you would bring the effort to care. The redhead then finally turned back around, his arms covered by the thick jacket again. Letting you continue speculate if he got hurt or not. He carried a glass of water and a plate with selfmade sandwich over, much to your surprise.

“You don't remember?”

He asked while placing food and water down at the nightstand. Seeing you shake your head helplessly.

“Good. Then you don't need to know.”

Not even remotely the answer you've been praying for. You sat up slowly because your body didn't allow you going any faster, unless you would've wanted stringing pain to cruise through your veins.

“Saeyoung… What are you talking about?”

“I told you I have enemies and you're absolutely not safe with me.”

He lectured you for the countless time; amber eyes grounded and hard when looking at you.

“Let this be a lesson, for fuck's sake… You're so damn lucky I noticed early enough.”

Your frown grew deeper as you're not sure what he's referring to. With the back to the wall, you placed both hands next to your mushy body. His expression stayed emotionless; lips pressed into a thin line and only his forehead wrinkled lightly to show his frustration. You titled your head.

“I don't know what happened but… I'm sorry.”

You then turned away your head, facing the floor.

“I didn't mean to cause problems again. But I hope you know that's not your fault.”

For a moment silence filled the air until the hot water rose into the corners of your irritated eyes.

“I like you and I don't want to be a burden. But I also don't wanna leave you.”

The shift of the mattress caught you off guard, jerking up your arm in reflex. He sat at edge while rubbing his face with both hands. The lump blocking the access to the already uneasy air didn't help staying calm.

“You still don't get it. What am I supposed to do.”

The regretful tone of his normally powerful voice caused the tears to run down your cheeks. First hesitant, your hand reached out and came to lay at his shoulder. Thankfully he didn't slap it away or anything, on the contrary. When paying close attention you noticed he unconsciously leaned into your touch.

“Please just… let me be with you. I'm not scared of anything that could happen. I know you protect me, Saeyoung.”

You tried again to convince him about your loyalty. It's the truth anyway, you did want to stay by his side no matter what pain or truth would occur; nothing could change your mind about being close to him. You simply desired for him to finally accept the stubborn albeit determined decision you'd made a while ago. You squeezed his shoulder gently and he stood up shortly afterwards.

“Eat and drink something, please.”

He pointed to the food.

“What about you?”

“I took care already. Start worrying about yourself first…!”

You hummed softly, watching him pull his jacket tighter as he's seeking your eyes again. And this time you saw the entire worry glittering over them.

“If you still think this way after everything is over… Maybe I'm willing to share what happened. For now you need to recover so stop asking questions and rest.”

With that he went back to the space on the floor he'd taken the first day he arrived in order to finish the remanding parts of the job. You pulled the blankets once more; gazing at the many wrinkles it brought. There's not much else to do for now, best would be listening to his words and eat. Although feel stomach's still a little heavy, you did felt hungry.

“Okay. Thank you Saeyoung.”

Your words made him look up when placing the big headphones over his head. His features softened due to your kindhearted gratitude, you both knew.

“Yeah… Whatever. Just don't leave this place without me again.”

“I promise.”

i'm now rethinking my entire perspective of the season and the press surrounding each episode. and now that we know how late the actors were getting scripts, it makes sense to me how hard ryan and oliver were pushing buddie after 704 and then ryan pulling back a little bit after 707, and now is being really ambiguous talking about "future partners" in his interviews. i think they were trying to guess where the storyline was going based on what they'd shot (and eddie was alllll over the coming out plot, deliberate dialogue choices to highlight buddie, buck/eddie/tommy love triangle treatment) then oliver had no plot in the back end of the season and ryan got thrown the doppelganger plot and no one knows what's going on. it would be insane for some of those threads not to get picked up again but overall i just think they need to clue the actors in more because it makes the interviews look insane in hindsight

this is an interesting theory lol and obviously can’t say for sure but yeah …

Things I Noticed While Writing Light The Fuse: Part 14, Episode 5

This one is just. They didn't have to do this for us but they did. They really did. 😳

I am kissing everyone who thought this angle was a good idea directly on the mouth

Nothing could've prepared us for this strength reveal. Matty in a tanktop again with such an awful pitching form. Ethan's super wide stance and the fact that he really thought he could catch up to it. That ball doesn't even touch ground in the park, and Matty completely knew this was coming, maybe he was hoping he'd take it easy on them this time.

You can also hear a clocktower go off here, and I'm not sure if it's signaling 2, which means Gary should be making his drop (I wanted them to arrive at the same time to keep everything on schedule but the fact that they're just playing ball while Gary is at Percy's to kill time is funny to me), or if it's a generic gong to signal the hour

You really thought you were gunna get that one huh champ, it literally disappears into the distance, these are nowhere close to the fence

The first shot is actually slightly longer in the extended ep and I only noticed when my subs didn't match up to Hulu's version (what I'm using for this series), and that's the only change to this whole scene. But this convo is so important, this whole time Matty has just been bragging to cops about Ethan's murder and now he wants to actually know about it, be trusted with that information other than 'yeah that happened'.

And it would be so easy for Ethan to keep lying as he's been doing, just twist the truth enough to keep them away from his reality, but he doesn't, and even though it's just them playing baseball together for the fun of it instead of having this convo on the river or at the 707, that makes this scene so important to me I had to write it twice in my fic, one for the dialogue and one for the baseball, but both so intimate in their own way, I knew I couldn't do it any other way

The shoes! I was finally gunna talk about the shoes! And then I looked up and realized that his undershirt is over a bit too much and he's flashing us just the teeniest amount and my brain turned to radio static again 😵😳😵

Okay I'm back, but the shoes! I love his shoes so much! Look at the heels on those things! And he has them in white too like these are just his favourite brand of shoes! I was trying to find out how tall he was and imdb said 6'1 and out loud I went 'no he's fuckin not' cause he's shorter than Johnson in all their scenes with the heels, and his are like very thin on his own boots, so some wires are getting crossed here 🤔 but I know that no matter what he's still taller than me and that's all that matters

Anyway everyone needs to appreciate Matty's fashion, I know Johnson eats with every outfit like the vest in this ep is so damn good but Matty with his western arrow shirt and his fancy belt and then normal jeans and thick-heeled shoes are just 😚👌

I wonder if they talked about it in the scenes where Ethan wasn't around, cause in canon he ditches them to talk to Doris more than they're ditching him to make out so they still get time to talk alone offscreen, and again this is the first and only time Matty questions it. I feel like Johnson already has some doubts since the subs make him say or instead of yeah as a full mock, like he already has that good a read on him that he knows something might be up even if Ethan has only ever said it in fear and full confidence, a big difference than my fic for once since I had him say it in order to help Ethan speak more easily.

Matty and Johnson looking at each other instead of him during this is interesting, I wonder if they've already gone over the little details he'd shared before so this is Matty confirming his own thoughts and Johnson wanting to again get right to the meat of it, just like when he was talking about his mom, he always manages to do this when no one else can

Maybe Matty was already having doubts on Cop Night when the cop didn't get the APB so he's been talking to Johnson about it, and still all this is changing nothing

To be honest, my opinion of V as a person is greatly influenced by how his choices affected the twins and Jumin, who are my three favorite characters. But, as I already said, I consider him an excellent character precisely because of the points you mentioned—His complexity and how multifaceted he is.

He's truly one of the characters whose mentality I'm most interested in exploring, and that's the reason for my dissatisfaction with his death. They just took him out of the picture, and that was it, because even if you can feel the weight of absence in the second Secret Ending it's not something that's explored.

I consider it as unfair as it's realistic.

But with his relationship with Rika being the focus of the first Secret Ending, I have more questions than answers about him.

And you know? Before the SEs I had no plans to play V's Route, in fact I fervently refused to do so, but now it's a necessity. I need to know more about him—His reasons, and also see him at his best, because from what I've heard, if I play Ray's Route and his AE first, I'll probably end up hating him.

Among Saeran's flashbacks, we are shown him and V having a short, sweet moment talking about the photograph, and Saeyoung really seemed to not only respect but also feel affection towards him, so I can't help but wonder what the relationship of the three of them would have been in a different situation.

That is a long one-shot I wrote about what would happen if V and Rika decided to break up amicably and work on themselves while Saeyoung goes into the agency, and Saeran stays with V since he arguably has the most access to funds to properly hide him and be sure to erase any trace that might be found. V and Rika are friends, considering the RFA still exists, but yeah, they got help before the point of no return happened.

V gets to work on himself and be the Dad we all know he can be, but it's still bittersweet since Saeyoung is still stuck in the agency. But, I know in my heart that's an ending that Saeyoung wouldn't ever be upset about since he values his brother's peace the most... far more than his own happiness.

If you want something that feels like wish fulfillment as well as a universe where things seem to go a little bit better than they did in canon, that’s a nice story to read. 

V is a complicated person but I feel like you can better enjoy him if you go into his route without the preconceived notions that you already have. It's hard to turn off what you already know, but give him the benefit of the doubt and see where that takes you because that is how you learn how to understand why he is the way he is. 

If you want my advice, please, play V Route and his AE before you do Ray Route. It makes a huge difference in your playing experience! I've been playing since the start, so I had the benefit of being able to play routes and DLCs as they came out so the order didn't mess with me as it might with a newcomer!

Jaehee > Zen > Yoosung > Jumin > 707 > V > Ray is how I would suggest Route Order if you want to unlock the secrets of this game organically. The April Fools and Christmas DLC can be played after you get established with the game set up! Rika's Behind DLC can be played after V Route in my order, but if you want to push it off until after Ray's Route, that's okay, too.
