Some pretty light news here. If they actually manage this it could be a great help for folks in food deserts.
Also having edible convenience store food is nice, not everyone has Wawa to lean on lol

That would be nice, I did like their dorito coated cheese thingies when I had them tho. ___________________________
If social media has made the world feel smaller by connecting us to users all over the world, it’s also made us well aware of what we’re missing here in the United States — and nothing gives us that FOMO feeling like seeing footage of the fabulous 7-Eleven stores of Japan.
These Japanese convenience stores (or konbini, as they’re called) boast snacks, beverages, and on-the-go meals that put America’s hot dog rollers to shame: onigiri, fried chicken, sushi, egg sandwiches, fresh cakes and pastries, mochi, and an array of hot bar items, to name a few. With our envy reaching a fever pitch, there’s been a renewed effort to get our 7-Elevens up to par — meaning we might soon get a taste of konbini treats here at home.
Even if you sip Slurpees on the regular, you might be surprised to learn that 7-Eleven, despite being founded in Texas, is a Japanese-owned company. In the 1970s, 7-Eleven opened its first locations in Japan, where the formula proved to be so successful that the operation utterly eclipsed its United States counterpart. By 2005, Seven-Eleven Japan Co., Ltd., owned by Seven & I Holdings, acquired full ownership of the brand.
Since then, Japan has upped its konbini game ceaselessly. Because it offers satisfying food at affordable prices, it’s part of the culture in ways that our minimarts fail to live up to. Thus, the company is considering lending that secret sauce to 7-Eleven’s US locations.  ____________________
This could be a game changer for folks, very cool. I look forward to seeing if they can pull it off.

hiii so random but i love hearing abt ur japan adventures! any tips for getting around/going out? i’m usamerican (not white tho) and don’t speak much japanese and i’m going in a few months mostly in tokyo <3 no pressure to answer !
so luckily in tokyo a lot of places especially chains will have some english menus! but definitely its good to brush up on basic food vocabulary just in case.
many smaller businesses dont take card so make sure you have plenty of cash on you!!! if you can do exact change thats even better. also idk if youre traveling with other people but some places will not be able to split the bill, but some will so just ask "betsu betsu de ii desu ka?"=is it okay to pay separately?
^if you do this make sure you know the names of the food you got to tell the waiter how to split the check
wear comfortable shoes bc there is a LOT of walking. like a lot a lot. also its gonna be crazy hot and humid when you're there so just be prepared for that as well. get an umbrella at a konbini (7 eleven, lawson, familymart), nobody here wears rain coats (maybe for fashion reasons?)
speaking of konbinis they do all have atms where you can withdraw cash for a small fee. i prefer 7 elevens atms bc you can withdraw 10000 yen in 1000 bills whereas others will just give you the 10000 bill
if i think of anything else ill reblog this again with more advice!

Jackie in Japan - Convenience Stores (part 2)
I did say we weren't done with this subject, didn't I? I was planning for a part 3 too, but that will have to wait until I remember what's supposed to go there.
To me, convenience stores save lives. Normally I don't have the energy to both cook and study, so I usually prioritize studying. Besides, the kitchen is poorly lit and usually occupied, so 19 out of 20 times I will go for whatever the convenience store or the supermarket have to offer. They save me. Within this past week, I have been saved by the convenience stores twice. I say "saved" because they were there when I needed them most, wich was after the trip to Dazaifu and on my way home from the baseball game.
They previde a few different things and I will go to them for different things too. Today, I will have them compete against each other.
Generally speaking they mostly have the same selection. They have rice balls (onigiri) of many kinds. They have sandwitches that are easy to eat. They have meals that just needs a short conversation with a microwave to be ready, they have cold drinks, hot drinks, cold snacks and normal snacks that are either somewhat Japanese or pretending to not be. You can also get a few other things, like magazines (shounen Jump as an example), and I have found face masks there too.
Generally speaking, 7-Eleven, Family Mart and Lawson each have one point where they are stronger than the others, but this might of course come down to the size of the store I went to.
7-Eleven wins when it comes to the microwave meal selection (at least I found a good dish last time I went there. However, I haven't found that many snacks I like tbh. They also score on familiarity, as it is a wide-spread brand, even if the ones in Denmark definitely do not sell the same things as here, and I assume it's the same for the rest of the world.
Lawson wins on the snack selection. The primary reason is that I found my new love, the momopan (peach bread) there. Also, there are no snacks I have tried that I did not like. will avoid cheese filling of any snack. But I have found some snacks with too much anko (bean paste) in 7-Eleven for my taste and I found a danish with pure chocolate inside and mixing that was an awful choice, just a friendly note to whoever got that idea. I have not yet had an experience like that with anything I have found in Lawson, so that's why they win.
Family Mart win the award for best service. I have to correct myself from last time. I have only ever been asked if I want my food heated in Family Mart and the employees are always ready to help me if I need it. They have a selection like everyone else, but I will keep coming back for the service alone. Besides, where I stayed last time I was n Japan, there were way more Family Mart stores than any other convenience store chain, so it does hold a special place for me.
I think I remember the next topic. I'm going to talk about what you can do at a convenience store next time. Believe it or not, it's not just convenient because of the food selection.
Do you have a favorite Japanese snack?

@sakura-mayoi asked:
Kasumi noticed he'd been standing underneath the blazing hot sun for some time, and it led her to pulling him off to the side underneath a table parasol. "S... Sorry, anata... I didn't want you to get caught up in the sun like that. It was just a gut feeling that you shouldn't be under it for long..." Her arms tightened around his right arm before clinging on closer as her cheeks lit up.
"L... Let's just... stay here for a while, okay? I don't think the sun will let up... I think there's a 7 Eleven nearby, though... Have you tried food from there?
//Aaah writer note on that, "anata" is a term of endearment for someone who can be considered a significant other. It was going to either be that, Darin, or hannii. Or Usa-kun. Because rabbits/bunnies. Ndbsvsgsj she's probably too embarrassed to use that last one rn.
Also, 7 eleven in Japan is the absolute bomb based on the vids I have seen gisndbcjsnsv 10/10 would visit.
Tumblr media
In all honesty, the blazing summer sun was beginning to make him feel a little sick. Kamui hadn't expected to be pulled under the table's parasol though, but he was kind of too exhausted from the heat to really process anything going on. Summer was especially hard for him after all.
''I... uh.. yeah...''
Tumblr media
Kamui ends up leaning his head on her shoulder, wanting to shut his weary eyes for a bit. ''Not.. really hungry right now, can we just... stay under the shade, or go inside?''
He was devoid of the usual energy he'd exhibit, motivation a lot harder than usual given the weather. He was kind of debating leaving Earth until Fall rolled around. He'll never understand how his sister can stand being on a planet like this when she was a Yato too. Weirdo.

June 15 - Kyoto Imperial Palace and Kyoto National Museum
Today we visited the Kyoto Imperial Palace and the Kyoto National Museum. My day, however, started with something completely unrelated to this. I realized that I had missed watching a yearly charity event while on this trip that I always look forward to watching every year. It kinda sucked realizing I missed it, but hey I mean that happens every year and this might be the only time I’m in Japan (also there’s videos I can watch online for the event).
Anyways, so then we traveled to the Museum. We had to get to the Palace in time for the English tour, which we were able to and still had more than enough time at the Museum. The museum in my opinion was way less interesting than the Tokyo National Museum, and we spent more time at this one as well. Also, you were not allowed to take photos at all, which kinda sucked, but l understand. Something else that sucked is that the entire third floor was closed off, so we couldn’t even see the exhibition there.
Tumblr media
My favorite item in the Museum were these two king statues that were absolutely serving. They were huge and were very much gay and I loved it. Everyone seemed to find it funny, and Lauren joked that since we couldn’t take pictures in the museum that she would have have take a picture of herself recreating the pose to add to her blog post. The fans back home would eat that up I’m sure. The statues themselves were standing on demons that they had conquered, and were meant to fend off other demons, showing that the same would happen to them if they entered the grounds of these statues.
We then had time to get something to eat. Lauren found some vegan place, and her, Bianca, and I went there. There wasn’t really anything on the menu for me, but they force you to order something at restaurants in Japan, even if you’re just there with friends who are ordering, so I got a tea and just gave it to Lauren. We then stopped quickly in a 7-eleven for me to find something to eat. I got tonkatsu with rice and ended up having to eat it while walking. It was not very good, but it was food.
Our group barely made it in time to the Palace for the English tour, and we had to rush to catch up. The tour was interesting, but I wish the guide spoke up more, as it was hard to hear him. Also, it was really hot outside, just to mention that. I did get a good amount out of the tour, and learned that there are stripes for tatami mats that signify status (red stripes mean high status). I also learned about how they make the roofs for the buildings out of tree bark and how it allows for smooth curves and is sustainable.
Tumblr media
The Palace grounds were pretty, and I enjoyed both the architecture of the buildings and then also the park areas around. Once the tour was over, we were set free for the day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lauren and I had a reservation for this vegan ramen place run by TeamLab at 6:15, and decided to head to Teramachi street (a famous shopping street) while we wait for the reservation time since it was in the area and there was a strawberry shop we saw before that Lauren wanted to get stuff from. This is the second time we visited that strawberry shop, and once again they didn’t have what Lauren wanted. This whole trip she has been trying to get a strawberry sandwich and they haven’t had it anywhere. We got candy coated strawberries with chocolate sauce on top, which were pretty good.
Tumblr media
We then went to some arcades and I won some Pokémon stuff. Not really worth the cost technically as I could’ve bought the stuff for cheaper, but to me it’s the fun of playing the game and winning them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we headed to the vegan ramen place. It has this large black table in front of an art display. There were only 16 total seats, so it makes sense why they get full so quickly and it’s reservation only. Lauren and I both got the soy ramen and it was pretty good. Lauren didn’t like the fact that it had tomato in. It was really quiet, except for this one girl slurping loudly which was obnoxious as Lauren and I are both sensitive to mouth sounds. I also got chocolate ice cream and it was pretty good as well. It was an experience for sure.

Academic Reflection
Today I learned about the Kyoto Imperial Palace. It is the the former ruling place for Japan’s emperors before that was moved to the Tokyo Imperial Palace. The switch happened after the Meiji restoration, when the capital also then moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. The Kyoto Imperial Palace has been preserved ever since, and you can take tours of the grounds today.
The buildings themselves are interesting in design. Basically, they are just a shell frame with no insulation, with the walls being able to be raised up during the summer to allow for more ventilation during the heat. They had no ceiling either, just a roof. The roofs themselves are made of tree bark, which has popularity due to it being sustainable and allowing for smooth curves in roof design. Also, only the buildings with a high enough level of importance were allowed to face towards the Palace, and the rest had to be facing away. They also now keep most of the big doors to the buildings closed, as it takes 6 men a lot of effort to open them.

Chapter One
Prodryas Persephone
Pairing: Haikyuu!! x Fem!Reader
next | 2099
You sigh as you walk from the lunchroom and into the nurse's station. Your friend looks up at you from her desk and smiles, knowing exactly what's got you down.
"How's it going, Y/N?" she teases.
"It's only lunch but I'm already tired of today," you groan as you lean over the counter in front of her computer.
"Doctor Cheronobog giving you trouble again, is he?"
"God, he's so annoying. Always with his perverted and sexist jokes not excluding or limited to me as a doctor," you explain to her.
"We really should report him," she insists.
"Again? But we've already tried twice. He's a Japanese male doctor. Nobody's going to fire him or even believe either of us," you grumble.
"Man, when is a hot doctor going to come in here," she sighs. "Oh, besides you, of course," she then teases.
"Hopefully soon or else the world just might crumble around me," you laugh.
Suddenly, the doors are thrown open and a patient is rolled in on a stretcher.
"Dr. L/N!" your name is called, and you rush their way. But before you can help, you suddenly find yourself in an entirely different world.
What you were just dreaming of is the days of the past, back when your biggest worry was a shitty coworker and long days in the office. Now, you're living on your own in a world you'd hardly recognize as your past self.
Six months ago a power surge overloaded the circuits all across your home country of Japan. Electricity went completely out and because of that, criminals from prisons all over the country escaped their cells.
It was only a matter of time until the government collapsed and those who could afford it, fled the country. Being a doctor, you could have, too, but the strong urge to stay and protect those who could not, really tugged at your heart.
Your makeshift office in a school bus has become somewhat well known in the small town you made base at, but you're wary not to become too famous and risk your own safety.
After your dream, you wake up on the floor near the back by the emergency exit. You've made a habit of sleeping by the locked door just in case you need to make an escape from what you now consider to be the front door of your home/office.
You've got a pretty huge chaise sectional sofa, a gift from a patient who even installed it for you a while back. It takes up a lot of room in the bus but you consider it important since it's where you perform your 'operating'.
On the opposite side of your large sofa is an end table you use to store all your medical equipment. But besides these two pieces of furniture, the rest purely functions as your home. You have a table big enough for three people to sit at just behind the driver's seat and across from that- next to the door- is your small pantry and icebox used to keep things cool since there's no electricity for a refrigerator.
Though you live in a bus, you don't move around in it often except for the occasional drive to a 7-Eleven or grocery store nearby for ice, snacks, or gasoline for your grill. Outside your bus, you have a small garden. Vegetables grow in an organized pattern surrounded by a wired gate to keep out animals and pests. However, you don't typically lock the garden since it isn't likely for someone to steal. There's still plenty of food in Japan since most of the population up and left.
You get up from your sleeping bag and walk over to your pantry for a snack. Fortunately for you, when you reach in you find a nice potato ready for eating. It's nothing compared to McDonald's like back in the before, but it does nicely to keep you alive.
You then step over to your icebox (which you were surprised to find still being made in 2099. Who was buying them anyway?) and pull out a glass bottle of coke. Since there's no air conditioning or heat inside your bus when it isn't running, you step outside and walk out to your garden.
There, you're surprised to see a small hole dug under your fence. Just on the other side, you find a few carrots missing as well. With a bite into your potato like you're some famished military trainee about to fight some gigantic monster, you come up with a plan to defeat your new enemy. You don't have the time or energy to make extra food for those who aren't pulling their own weight. Seriously, the least the damn pest could do is give you some fertilizer after stealing your crops, right?
Either way, your stomach is rumbling. After finishing your potato and throwing your bottle into the recycling bin, you open the door to your bus and walk inside. Under the driver's seat, you reach around blindly until your hand reaches the shotgun you had been gifted by yet another patient.
"None us wanna see you gettin' into any trouble, but ya gotta keep one on ya just to be safe," the old man had told you. Though you've never had any intention of purchasing a weapon, the hopeful look in the old man's eyes pleaded for you to take it until you finally gave in. It's come in handy, you can't lie, but the trip to the gun shop is always a risky one.
After cocking the gun, you mutter to yourself as you walk into the forest near your home. "Damn rabbit. At least you'll be fatter this way. Better hope you're smart enough to run far away before I get you, you fuck. How am I gonna help other people if I can't even help my own self, huh? Goddammit, now I've got to worry about fixing my fence, too."
Thinking nothing of it, you step away from your school bus to hunt for dinner just like you have most days for the past six months.

I’ve been living in Japan for almost three months now and lemme say, it slaps.
“Gas” station food is like so so good. I say “gas” because there’s really not a whole lot of actual gas stations, like maybe one or two per town as far as I’ve seen. But like 7 eleven exists as just a lil store along with a bunch of others under different names. But the food, guys, if it’s hot food it’s fresh and drops in price the longer it’s out. It’s been 30 minutes since it came out? “Cool give us like 25 yen”. 100 yen is a little under a US dollar. And there’s tons of refrigerated food that’s made daily that’s super good and healthy and well priced as well.
My bathtub/shower are their own room. Like the whole room is made up of tiles and the bathtub is in it and there’s a shower head next to the tip with like a ton of room to move around. When the water in the tub gets cold, you can reheat it. Not fill it back up with hot water, REHEAT it.
You never see anyone throwing a fit about wearing a mask, because that’s just the standard. Everyone acts like adults.
Lots of lovely community areas! I just found a gorgeous iris garden this week. Nothing is in bloom right now since it’s winter but even without the flowers it’s so peaceful and pretty. A stream runs through it and there’s little bridges and benches and just 🥺.
Booze is cheaper.
I’ve yet to have a meal I didn’t like.
I could keep going but those are some highlights that stand out to me. It’s just honestly been such a nice experience after spending the whole pandemic in the United cluster fuck of America.

-Tips for traveling around Japan-
1) Wi-Fi
I saw a big rainbow this morning. It’s been a while since I’ve been in Japan.
Speaking of Japan, there is nothing better than Japanese food. Sushi, nabe which is a variety of Japanese hot pot dish, tempura, mochi, and aduki beans sweets. And the temples, mindfulness meditation, onsen - the hot spring spa and many more. I prefer the winter in Japan which is generally dry & sunny.
One of the down sides of travelling in Japan used to be the Wi-Fi solutions for visitors. They had strict restrictions on mobile phone contracts that were very complex. It was almost the only country I could not use a SIM free iPhone.
Apparently, they’ve just started a variety of SIM free deals. Possibly for the coming summer Olympics, next year in 2020. I’ve not tried this yet, so I will report on that later.
Pocket Wi-FI rental is impressive and very fast. You can watch movies on YouTube and talk on Skype without a problem. Although they can let us to set up the contract as easy as possible, I must warn you about the perils of online shopping nowadays. One wrong click could end up costing you quite a bit.
I used just 3 days of pocket Wi-Fi. Without realizing, I had seemed to click 2 companies’ contracts, when I’d compared between them. I asked the taxi driver to stop by a red postbox and posted a rental pocket Wi-Fi on my way to the Airport. Happily I went on board. 6 months later, when I returned, I saw an unopened envelope from the pocket Wi-Fi company, on my desk.  I ended up paying ¥28000, which is the equivalent of $300. It was supposed to be $3000, but they decided to charge me 10% of the actual cost.
You may end up raising a huge debt in Japan, under such a condition. Certainly, no more Japanese pocket Wi-Fi rental for me!
The best solution I really recommend, is the ‘7spot’ at 7-ELEVEN. It is one of the Japanese 24/7 convenience stores. You can use their free Wi-Fi maximum for 1 hour, 3 times a day. Every store I went to, the Wi-Fi worked fine and was the simplest solution for me. Their food is generally good quality. The ¥100 fresh coffee is the best of all Japanese convenience stores. For some reason, they are not the nearest convenience store to the stations. But they are hidden around corners. I recommend looking for their signposts, unless you are carrying heavy luggage:

7 eleven hot food review
7 eleven hot food review; It doesn’t make a difference in the event that you live in the core of Manhattan or the heartland, in case you’re eager at 2 a.m., a specific comfort store is dependably there for you, regardless. In case you’re fortunate as am I, that place is Wawa, a great service station that makes crisp, made-to-arrange sandwiches at painfully inconvenient times of the day. Lamentably, Wawa is at present an East Coast-just late night comfort store goal, so if there isn’t one close by and you aren’t willing to go all Harold and Kumar and excursion to one, your neighborhood 7-Eleven can furnish you with some tolerable after-12 pm sustenance.
Genuine, some nourishment decisions there are in any event acceptable, however not all that they serve is a decent decision. Truth be told, there are a few things you should evade — and we get the tragic obligation of revealing to you what they are. We’re not here to give you arranges, yet view yourself as cautioned… and buy these nourishments at your very own hazard. 7 eleven hot food review.
Slurpee
When you consider 7-Eleven, the main thing that strikes a chord is the Slurpee. It’s the one thing that isolates 7-Eleven from its comfort store rivalry. The Slurpee, which got its name from the sound it makes when you suck it through a straw, has been a 7-Eleven backbone since 1966. It comes in many flavors, from the fan-most loved Coca-Cola to unusual inventions like Faygo Cotton Candy, yet you should reconsider before you get a container and draw on the switch of your neighborhood 7-Eleven’s Slurpee machine.
Pizza
Regardless of whether you’re strangely inquisitive about its new breakfast pizza joining eggs, cheddar, breakfast frankfurter, ham, and cream sauce all on a bread like outside layer, there are vastly improved choices to tame your pizza longings. The people over at Brand Eating think 7-Eleven’s pepperoni pizza “looks somewhat like a Little Caesars pizza and falls somewhere close to pizza chain pizza and solidified pizza.” 7 eleven hot food review.
7-Select burritos
The 7-Select burritos resemble Tina’s, yet without the name acknowledgment or the essence of after-school nibble sentimentality. What’s more, there’s more disgrace connected to them. 7-Select Burritos are in the cooler area so as to have one hot and prepared, you’ll need to utilize the in-store microwave and solicit yourself an arrangement from inquiries. Have you at any point utilized a microwave in a service station previously? Is it true that you are truly ready to cook something utilizing the microwave of an accommodation store? What are the odds despite everything it’ll be solidified in the middle when you chomp into it?
Doritos Loaded
At the point when 7-Eleven propelled Doritos Loaded in 2014; it was attempting to change the amusement when it came to gooey, compact bites; notwithstanding going similarly as calling them “back to front nachos”. Piggybacking on the achievement; of Taco Bell’s Doritos Locos Taco, which, let’s face it here, is totally heavenly; and one of my blameworthy joys with regards to drive-thru food; 7-Eleven’s senior VP of marketing, Nancy Smith pronounced; Doritos Loaded was one of the greatest item move outs in the organization’s history.
Tragically for 7-Eleven, a major advertisement crusade and internet based; life introduction doesn’t more often than not spare an item that poses a flavor like rubbish. Kevin Pang of the Chicago Tribune portrayed; Doritos Loaded as “what might be compared to the online misleading content; a deceptive feature that traps artless Americans with tempting; trendy expressions (Doritos, warm cheddar); at that point conveys on an unsuitable something-different out and out.”
