7 Days of Valentines

There isn’t a single thing you could complain about when it comes to being with Roy. He’s an absolute sweetheart under his grumpy exterior, and you know he’d do anything to see you smile. He’s thoughtful and funny and pays attention to all the little things.

All of that is great, except for the fact that you’ve decided to keep your relationship a secret for now.

Of course, the people closest to you know, which basically just means Keeley and Phoebe, and you can understand his apprehension. Roy’s a famous footballer, and if people knew you were dating, you’d be ripped to shreds.

Still, sometimes you wished you could go out and do all the cliche couple things, like dinner and drinks and dancing and shitty pottery classes, the whole nine yards. Until then, when the world knows about your relationship, you’re happy staying in and watching movies, cooking with each other, and spending practically all your free time at Roy’s place.

Today, though, there’s a problem: you can’t find your pink sweatshirt.

You remember throwing it on after work, and then you went over to Roy's house for dinner. When you’d left earlier, you’d been in one of his t-shirts, but you’d been planning on wearing that sweatshirt for the rest of the day. You’d called Roy, to see if you’d left it at his place, but he never picked up, so now you needed to take a trip to the dog track.

Originally, you’d hoped to just pop in, find Roy, and inquire about your sweatshirt, but instead it seems like you’re going to run into every person you’ve ever met.

As soon as you step through the doors, you almost crash right into Higgins, who’s hurrying off to some place or another. You apologize to each other before you both scurry off in your own directions. It takes you a few seconds of wandering before you realize you have no idea where Roy is, so you cut your losses and head to Keeley’s office.

When you step instead, after knocking, you realize that Rebecca is in Keeley’s office as well.

“I’m looking for Roy,” you say after greeting both of your friends. Instead of a response, Keeley just raises her eyebrows up and down a few times, with an added wink. You’re in the midst of shaking your head at Keeley and her antics, as true as her suspicions are, when Rebecca gives you a real answer.

“He should be with Ted and Beard in their office.”

You say your goodbyes before hurrying down the hallway, still trying to get in and out as fast as possible. Of course, with Ted Lasso involved, you should have known that was a lost cause. As soon as you step into the office, you’re bombarded with twangy, Midwestern sayings you’re not 100% confident you know the meanings of.

In an attempt to get yourself out of there, you try to ask Roy your question solely with facial expressions, but the face he makes in return makes it clear to you that he’s not getting the hint. So, you try and mouth your inquiry about your sweatshirt instead, but he’s not getting that either.

You try and whisper to him, in an attempt to keep your secret for a bit longer.

“Oi, the old man’s deaf,” Jaime says as he walks past the open office door and sees you trying to get Roy’s attention as subtly as possible.

“Jesus, Roy,” you sigh and he finally looks at you, “is my pink sweatshirt at your house?”

“Yeah.”

“Great, thank you.”

You leave the office, and the building, to the excited shouts of the Greyhounds, and you can practically hear Roy’s death glare from here. Maybe he wouldn’t be in this position if he would have answered your call about your goddamn sweatshirt.

7 Days of Valentines

There was just something about Steven Grant that made you completely put your guard down. Even before he’d clumsily asked you out, when he was just that cute, nervous looking man who worked at the museum gift shop, you’d felt comfortable around him. He always let you talk about whatever was on your mind, eyes wide and attentive as if there was no place he’d rather be.

As the two of you spent more and more time together, those feelings just continued to increase. There was something so disarming about Steven that made you want to be completely yourself around him, despite all of your worries and fears about what others thought of you. He’s always accepted you, 100%, and if Steven Grant, the most wonderful man alive, can ignore your flaws maybe you should too.

Being with Steven just feels like a warm hug, being with him gives you the same feeling as waking up in a nice warm bed and realizing it’s the weekend. He’s lovely, in everything he does, and he’s never made his affection for you a secret, something you needed to pry out of him. You don’t think you’ve ever heard him say anything downright rude about someone unless they deserve it.

While he might not be an angel, he’s definitely yours. You’ve never felt as cared for, as able to let go of your fears and doubts as you are with him.

On bad days, when you can’t think of a single good thing about yourself, Steven is there to tell you that while you might think these things, they aren’t true in the slightest. He bats away your self-deprecating comments with huffs and affectionate eye rolls, before he lets you know that everything you said was complete nonsense.

You’d asked him before, why he’s always so adamant about letting you know he doesn’t share those same nasty thoughts about you. He started by saying he doesn’t appreciate lying, before adding on “and everyone deserves to know that the bad things they think about themselves aren’t true. You don’t want those feelings to grow, now do you?”

It made you beyond sad to think about why Steven discovered that, that he was alone and picked on constantly, with no one to tell him that he was a good man, that he wasn’t crazy, that he just needed some time and everything would work out. Now that things have worked out for him, he always makes sure to be that light in the darkness for everyone.

His positivity and light never stopped at the physical, the way you’d sigh and frown at yourself in the mirror. Steven made sure to love every single aspect of you, even the parts that made you embarrassed or sad or uncomfortable.

You’re a little clumsy? Steven finds it endearing, he’ll always be there to catch you. You’re forgetful? Steven loves writing notes, he’ll write you a reminder. You can get messy? Steven finds cleaning therapeutic, he’d love to turn on some music and organize with you.

Every single aspect of you that could ever make you feel unlovable Steven loves tenfold, making you feel like the happiest, luckiest person in the universe.
