AITA (30f) for losing my cool/snapping at my roommate and friend (30m, who I will call Kyle) because he was too loud playing games online with his friends?
For context, in case it's needed: this happened a couple months ago, but it's been on my mind. We are both autistic and thus got a late start in our adult lives, in several ways. We have been friends for 10 years and have lived together for roughly 7 of them, on and off (we adopted 2 cats together many years ago, its just easier like this so we dont have to separate them or force one of us to be away from the cats. we love them very much. kind of a coparenting situation lol). Kyle has a salaried tech job that's remote for 70% of the time, and I've recently become a full-time online college student after failing to "make it" without a degree.
We live in a tiny 2-bedroom house that Kyle's family owns. We're only charged for utilities, which is why neither of us are leaving anytime soon (contrary to what you might assume, Kyle does not make a lot of money), especially since it's giving me the opportunity to go to school full-time and not worry about rent. Kyle helps me a lot with groceries and other necessities and I do most of the chores.
So we are always basically on top of each other, and sometimes we get on each other's nerves. We try to be respectful of each others' space, but it's hard because there is not much space in the first place.
I had a really busy day studying and doing homework, which is basically every day for me, since I'm taking 6 classes, 4 of which are STEM classes. So I tend to fall asleep early if I'm not unintentionally pulling all-nighters. I was trying to sleep when this happened around 9pm.
He usually closes his door because he knows he can be very loud, but it doesn't help much. I ended up having to close my own door to try and drown out some of his yelling and laughing, which I understand is going to happen and I try not to hold it against him.
But then he opened his door and left it wide open, so I could hear everything, like he was in the same room. Something really funny must have happened because he started scream-laughing.
Despite this being a semi-regular weekly occurrence, I was really startled. I figured, it probably wasn't intentional and he'll try to quiet down and close his door. I tried to relax and as soon as I started to fall asleep, he did it again, except louder.
This time he didn't stop, he was full-on screaming and yelling at the top of his lungs. Kinda like those game streamers/youtubers where literally all they do is scream the whole time? Very similar. My cat, who was asleep under the blanket on top of me, got startled awake and scratched the shit out of my leg.
I think this all triggered a "fight" response because I was suddenly just so incredibly pissed at Kyle, which I tried to get under control, but he would not stop screaming and I literally could not hear myself think.
(I cannot wear earplugs or have anything in/covering my ears for huge sensory reasons.)
Then my cat wanted to leave the room to see what the commotion was, so I had to open the door, which gave me a direct line of sight to to Kyle at his computer.
I walked over to his doorway. Tried to knock and call his name, but he didnt notice with his noise cancelling headphones on. So I slammed my hand against his door to get his attention & yelled "Hey! Shut the fuck up, Kyle!"
He looked surprised to see me and laughed and kinds waved it off and said "sorry, it got a little intense" and he started to explain what they were doing.
I cut him off and said "I don't care. Shut the hell up." He said he could close his door again, and I said "No, you need to stop. Just stop! You're freaking the cats out too!" and I pointed to my leg with huge bloody scratch marks, shut his door, went back to my room, shut my own door. And of course after that I had adrenaline coursing through my body and I couldn't fall asleep anyway.
After that, I didnt hear a single sound from his room apart from an occasional quiet laugh. I started to feel guilty. I think I overreacted and ruined his fun. I know this is his way of blowing off steam halfway through the work week.
I also felt embarrassed because his friends probably heard me throwing a fit. We have lived with them before, and they're exactly that loud every single night. I have had to ask them to quiet down multiple times, and Kyle told me later on that gave them the impression that I'm. Well, "neurotic, controlling bitch" was heavily implied. Kyle is usually a lot more chill, but being around these guys influences him to act more like them.
But, I guess being loud while having fun isn't a crime, especially when it's not even 10pm yet. I feel like I proved his friends right, maybe.
The next morning I apologized, he apologized too, and everything seems to be good between us, but it's been a while and he's a lot quieter during game night now. He's such a reserved and stressed out person, he hardly ever laughs except when he's playing games, so I feel like I destroyed an important outlet.
I told another friend what happened and she said I didn't overreact at all and she would have flipped out way sooner if her husband did that. (Not sure it's comparable I mean we aren't married lol) And for the record, this friend and her husband were once part of a now-fractured friend group including Kyle and his game night friends, but grew apart, for a lot of reasons, but I think mainly because the Loud Gamer Friends never really grew up while everyone else matured and moved on to different phases in life.
Basically my friends current impression of Kyle is that he is a decent person but incredibly emotionally stunted and feels like he may unintentionally cope in ways that often hurt me without caring as much as she thinks he should. Which....feels partially accurate, I guess. But isn't that placing too much responsibility on him for my wellbeing? He does a lot for me, so it felt like an unfair thing to say.
My mom on the other hand, seems to fully think I am an asshole fun-ruiner. She thinks I should have tried harder to calm down. Maybe I should have approached him sooner - nicely.
And I agree. He probably would have tried his best to oblige even if he couldn't fully succeed. But that's the reason I didn't bother - in the past he has only been able to honor that kind of request for maybe 10-15 minutes, then forgets, and it's exhausting to keep reminding him.

hi hope you are doing well! i was wondering if you have any advice on what research would be best to do for my personal statement. i’m looking to do a course in international business management or marketing and communications (with a focus in motorsport). i’ve been trying to build a reading list but i figure that it would be good to also subscribe to newsletters, listen to podcasts and read articles, i’m just not sure where to start yet.
Your research would include looking at other personal statements online and introspecting within yourself. You need to understand how you can best answer all the questions a personal statement requires you to answer - and for this you would have to know yourself well/ start reflecting on yourself.
Here’s what I would do if I were you.
You’re right about the podcasts and newsletter bit, you’d have to do some research of the best magazines/ digital medias in those fields. Take a few days to read at least 5-7 articles, 2-3 research reports/case studies from any research portal such as googlescholar/ research gate and listen to at least 4 podcasts of different companies in this field. Try to keep these things global - such as a research article based in Asia, a podcast exclusive to MENA or the USA, articles that talk about the UK/Europe landscape.
Next:
A. Go over this guideline and look at it from a career angle.
B. Write down all the answers that you feel are true about yourself.
C. Ask your friends and family how they would perceive you/ if there is anything about you/ you’ve done that particularly stands out to them (for instance, your SWOT and their SWOT of you could be very different).
D. Next, look at some questions that a personal statement requires you to answer such as:
1. Talk about a time when you failed and how you dealt with it.
2. A time when you successfully pulled something off without expecting it too.
3. If you come from a marginalised background, discuss that and what growing up was like, and the value system your family instilled in you.
4. A problem that you’re passionate about solving/ advocating for. Could be things like helping orphanages, the environment, education for all, etc.
5. Why you want to join this course and how it’ll benefit you, how you’ll make use of it and why they should consider you as their applicant.
E. Note down all these answers as well.
F. After doing this, then I would start looking at how other people are writing their personal statements. The reason why I would do point D before F is so that I don’t blatantly copy/ get influenced by someone else’s work. By having a brief structure in place, you can therefore play around with the sentences, examples and the writing of your experiences.
Ask people to read your personal statement. People could include family, friends, teachers, mentors, counsellors, etc.

idk where to start jejddnfkfnfm i recently did introduced a new oc universe (silently glances at epidemic stellaria) so i really wanna talk more abt the characters there. i've written a few character descriptions for them, but it's not ALL OF THE CHARACTERS YET LOL. i'll just put some of the ones i've already written under the cut lel
1. Naoki Sakaguchi
A normal boy who was living a normal enough life up until the Stellaria Epidemic happened. Despite spending most of his high school life indoors even until graduation, he was still cheerful and positive about his situation. However, he's also rather fed up by all of this, so he then sets up a goal to find the person who started the Stellaria Epidemic and put a stop to it once and for all.
2. Miyu Takemoto
Naoki's best friend who he befriended in the midst of their online classes back in high school. Miyu is mostly pessimistic and a realist, always looking at things in a logistic sense and never really likes the thought of even daydreaming once. She's very skilled in the piano, and has harnessed her abilities to use it as self-defense against the Stellarias.
3. Koshiro Nakano
A young teacher who didn't really want to become a teacher to begin with. Skipping a lot of grades and having a lot of skills in any school subject, Koshiro is a smart individual who's parents forced him to become a teacher at the young age of 17. It's been a year now since then, and even if he enjoys sharing his knowledge, he wishes he could do something more than just teaching a bunch of teenagers around his age all that he knows.
4. Stella Namia
The mastermind behind the Stellaria Epidemic, it's unknown why she even caused it to begin with. A girl who seems nice and approachable, but her intimidating aura immediately draws people away. Little does anyone know, there's something hidden behind her nearly empty eyes.
5. Alex Vignetta
The oldest of the Vignetta siblings and is the leader of the Reality Haxxors. A man who is very distant and cold towards others, even to his own relatives. He's always busy occupying himself within his work, so he never really has the chance to spend any time with his family. However, deep down inside, he secretly does care about them and the members of the Reality Haxxors.
6. Arthesia Vignetta
A member of the Reality Haxxors, Arthesia can be classified as the youngest Vignetta Data Bank wielder so far (even if her age is close to the Minase siblings). Not that talkative in real life, but more outspoken on social media, that's how she usually is. Used to be very introverted and quiet, but nowadays is willing to blabber on about whatever she likes a little more. It's all thanks to a certain someone.
7. Aaron Vignetta
He isn't actually a Vignetta biologically. He was just an accidental experiment result who then got taken in by the Vignetta family and became one of their own. Has always taken an interest in music and playing the guitar, and is currently learning how to play one. He's struggling, but he's trying, at the very least.
8. Haruki Motome
An up-and-coming idol! A rising star in the industry! His charming looks and melodious voice captivates those who have only seen him once. With a flashing smile, Haruki is sure to make you swoon~
9. Rumi Narukami
Once a world renowned musician, now is a music teacher for a high school. The reasons as to why she quit is...still unknown. However, she lives her life to the fullest despite everything. Despite being...what, 25 years old? She still isn't exactly familiar with modern technology for whatever reason. Arthesia and Yuta are helping her with that, though.
10. Yuta Minase
One of the Minase siblings, Yuta is a flirty, yet annoying boy who fails in his flirtatious attitude everytime. He has a loud and upbeat personality that never seems to die down unless someone calls him out for it. He's all bark but no bite.
11. Yuka Minase
One of the Minase siblings. Unlike her brother Yuta, Yuka is more quiet and serious. She's willing to help others if possible, but not without any cost, of course. Very skilled in robotics and engineering, and is able to fix anything around the Reality Haxxors's base if needed. Is really annoyed and absolutely done with her brother's antics, however.
12. Tyler Morrison
He serves as some kind of...guardian spirit to Arthesia. Has been with her for many years now, and has closely watched her growth throughout every single one of them. A man who can come off as rude and aggressive, but deep down inside, he has a little soft spot of his own.

After a series of misunderstandings and an entire human city being teleported to Pluto with the crashlanded ship, they begin a race back to Earth. Realizing that Earth tech is still way inferior to the spacefaring race, they figure out that the only way to win a war is via the love of culture.
For a long time I only watched movies and short stuff with 2-4 episodes max, but I think this series brought me back to longer series. I’ve always been fascinated by stories about a future that’s already come to pass. And I mean this one’s sequel predicted Hatsune Miku and Vtubers so that’s cool I guess?
7. Maniac (the netflix show from 2018)

The first time I watched and loved a live action show! I watched... uhhh... 2 other live action shows after this and didn’t even finish the other one but maybe someday :3 This one was visually stunning so I guess that’s why I managed to finish it?

Bad Business & Money Woes v. 1746.0
Lorrrrd have I had a bit of a String of Shit here recently, so time to vent.
First of all! I wanted to return the purse my mother didn’t keep. Thought it’d be a quick stop at the brand store in Woodfield Mall on the way home from Naperville.
Turned out they could only give you a refund in the form of store credit if you ordered with PayPal, unless you shipped the product back. I’d experienced this with some stores in the past, but it had been a while, and I’d really hoped by this point major stores/brands would have gotten their shit together here. There is no good reason for it to work this way - no reason why they would have the basic-ass online technology to give you a simple refund to your original payment method at their distribution centers yet couldn’t have it in-store.
And the thing is, this possibility had crossed my mind, and I had attempted to pay with my debit card rather than PayPal! But this kept not working on the site, for some reason! So then I’m like okay, I’ll try PayPal - and it worked.
But okay - at least the return shipping was free. But now I was kicking myself for assuring my mother I wouldn’t need the box to return the purse - and getting rid of all the other perfect-sized boxes from my Christmas shopping!
And I would go on to have a Goddamn Difficult Time finding a box in the right size!!! Normal-ass-size box that countless Amazon packages and such are constantly delivered in!
Covetously, I watched perfect-sized packages arrive for neighbors each day. Wondered if it would be weird to knock on their door and ask if I could have the box. No, I wasn’t that brave.
I eyed the recycling area a couple of times but only found Wrong-Sized Boxes there. Searched my closets and storage space - only Wrong-Sized Boxes.
I checked online to see how much such a box would cost at UPS. Could not find any pricing information, only predictable suggestions that they’d be overpriced compared to boxes from normal stores.
Checked Target. Only Wrong-Sized Boxes.
In the meantime, I seemed to have lost or misplaced my debit card. The last place I had it was a 7-Eleven where I’d done a PayPal cash deposit for some Christmas money (which was then quickly consumed by Bills and Expenses). And I didn’t even need the debit card! They wouldn’t let me use my debit card to cover the transaction fee! They had to take it out of the cash deposit! Also stupid. And to have lost my card in this situation was doubly stupid. I swear I need to be so much more careful when handling things with gloves that don’t allow me to feel things fully - this has often been my undoing. I thought I had put it in my pocket, but when I got home, it wasn’t there. (I did check the 7-Eleven later, but they didn’t find it.)
In the meantime, I needed to get gas. Best bet was Shell because I had the app and could use PayPal through that. Except this time, for some reason, it didn’t work as usual. I tried and tried. I tried switching the payment method to my debit card and it still didn’t work. Then I realized the payments weren’t going through because I was getting charged huge preauthorizations that exceeded my balance - which hadn’t happened at this gas station, or most others I use, before. There was an option in the app to select a maximum purchase amount per transaction, so I selected $15 and tried again. Again it didn’t work - apparently I had exceeded my transaction limit, presumably with the huge preauthorization charges from before??? THEN I noticed the pumps had tap to pay. Hallelujah! I pulled out Samsung Pay to pay with PayPal. And it failed again… and again. Finally I resigned to trying another gas station the next day.
TODAY. I went to Thornton’s. They don’t have tap to pay at the pump. I went inside to see if they had it there - they did. And I tried. And I tried. And my Samsung Wallet kept not working. The guy suggested trying Google Wallet instead. All I had in Google Wallet was a bunch of used-up gift cards, but I managed to find my once-connected debit card in there and reconnect it. I tried it, and, thank god, it worked.
THEN I want to Walmart to try and find a cheap box. They didn’t have the perfect size, but they had one close enough for a little over a dollar. I went to check out and realized the motherfuckers didn’t accept digital payments like every other major goddamn store. I checked my purse. I had exactly $1 in cash. I had coins at home in ANOTHER purse. There was, apparently, a way to pay digitally through the Walmart app. So I downloaded the app, logged into my account, connected my PayPal. Found the code to scan to pay in store. Then found you could only use a credit/debit card, not PayPal, in store. Tried to find my full debit card number somewhere to paste in there. Had a hard time. At this point, I’d been standing around trying to figure out how to pay for my $1.19 purchase for absurdly long. I gave up and left.
Went to the Target across the street. It was out of the two main things I needed.
Went to Jewel for the rest. Wanted to use PayPal through Samsung Wallet, as I’d done a million times before, because at this point I’d pretty much drained my bank account, and I still had a PayPal balance. It wouldn’t accept the payment method. Tried adding PayPal to Google Wallet. Wouldn’t accept the payment method. Didn’t know what was suddenly up with that. Did an instant transfer from PayPal to my bank account; used my debit card through Google Wallet. That worked.
I still have not obtained a Right-Sized Box, and will probably return to Walmart with a goddamn dollar and a goddamn quarter.
Anyway, I just needed to get this shit out of my system and, hopefully, out of my life!!
I also seriously need stalking, staring, and creepy shit out of my life once and for all. I’ve had ENOUGH.

The past couple of days, I felt worse after taking my magnesium/vitamin K/fish oil with vitamin D supplement mix. Today I tried skipping the last one and felt notably better. But then I dealt with so many pains in the ass. I’ll try taking an extra magnesium and see how that goes.
