Am I the asshole for setting the thermostat to 70° and telling my roommate to stop changing it?

I (he/him) have been living with 5 roommates including J (they/he) and my best friend M (he/him). the entire time we've lived together there has been no problem with the thermostat until J blew up at my best friend, M, over something small and unrelated. this made me, M, and M's boyfriend strongly dislike them. I didn't get involved and haven't said anything to them since this happened.

In the house we live in the downstairs gets incredibly cold (my room is sometimes 64° even with the thermostat set to 70°) while the upstairs gets really hot. I'm one of 2 people who lives downstairs and I'm the only one who's currently here (the person I share a room with is away for winter break). I have a chronic fever caused by my autoimmune disease that makes me very cold. I have to live downstairs because I use a wheelchair so swapping rooms is not an option. In the past, the people who lived upstairs would open the window to let the heat out of their rooms. There was never a problem with the thermostat.

Here's where the problem starts: yesterday I found myself shivering in my room despite being under 10 blankets in bed. I went to check the thermostat and saw it was at 66° which is usually the nighttime temperature. I assumed it was a mistake or just hadn't been turned up in the morning so I turned it back to 70°. When I walked by the thermostat again it was now set to 65°. I turned it back up to 70° because I was freezing cold. Then I walked by again and it was 64°. I turned it back to 70°. The next time I walked by it was 63°. I turned it back to 70°. This was clearly J being petty because they were progressively making it colder and colder every time I changed it.

For the entire following night and morning we went back and forth changing the thermostat.

I eventually got sick of it and decided to message them "Please stop changing the thermostat it is cold down here." They didn't respond and continued changing the thermostat. I told them they were being petty and asked them to please stop. This resulted in them blowing up at me and essentially accusing me of only thinking about myself. They also said they "refuse to pay for my excessive gas usage." I told them that they can open a window to cool their room and that they're welcome to come downstairs but there's no equivalent for me and my room. I also said that I didn't think this was about temperature I thought it was about punishing me for disliking them since this problem only started after they blew up at M and they were progressively dropping the thermostat colder and colder every time I changed it back. They told me that it was about temperature. I said that if that's the case they can open a window or come downstairs. That was the end of the conversation.

My other roommates still don't have a problem with the thermostat being set to 70° it's just them. They're also frustrated with J turning down the thermostat so low because they want to spend time downstairs and it's too cold.

you were in Iceland?? epic! I've been there as well (in 2022), how was it? how was the volcano? (if you don't mind me asking, feel free to ignore this)

Yes! I was there 5/18 to 6/1. I've wanted to go for like a decade and have been semi planning this trip for 2024 for a year and a half, then properly researching and planning since January. It was SO AMAZING. Exactly everything I wanted :) I was ready to go home at the end for like, my own bed and some rest, but now I miss it and want to go back lol

If you went in 2022, did you get to hike to the Fagradalsfjall eruption? I know those were the "tourist" ones that people could get closer to. The current eruptions are part of another volcanic system on the Reykjanes peninsula, Svartsengi. They aren't open for hiking. It erupted again 3 days before I left. I got to see it twice! On our last full day we drove out of Reykjavik and saw it along the highway, and then the day we left we stopped on the way to the airport. I took this with my 250 mm from literally the side of the highway:

It caused no interferences with our travel. It's a fissure eruption, so the lava is erupting along a fissure and isn't as big and explosive. Initially they were afraid this one might disrupt air travel if the lava flowed to the sea (producing more ash and steam) but it didn't. It was very cool to see! I feel bad for the people who lived in Grindavik though, it’s been months since they had to evacuate and there isn't an end in sight for them yet. The Icelandic government really stays on top of things like road closures, weather reporting, etc so I checked their websites daily. The main concern with the eruption as gas pollution, so I just checked their pollution forecast to see if the wind was going to blow it over us or not (it didn't.)

Our trip went great. We had mostly good weather and apparently left just in time because this last week there's been a pretty nasty problematic storm across the whole country that left a bunch of people stranded. But we left 2 days before that. We drove 3,300 km in our rental car (2,050 miles) and did the entire ring road + some of the Westfjords + Snæfellsnes + Húsavik + Borgarfjörður Eystri as detours. Our rental car was named Jim because that was his license plate. We bonded with him lmao

Major things I did: Katla Ice Cave, Vestmannaeyjabær, Silfra snorkeling in 2°C water, Jökulsárlon boat tour, Húsavik whale watching, countless waterfalls, puffins at Borgarfjarðarhöfn, Hvammsvik hot springs & Sky lagoon, and Mulagljufur Canyon.

It was at coldest, 2°C (35°F) with downpour rain being pushed sideways into your face by wind to the point you could hardly open your eyes. It was at hottest 19° C (66°F) and sunny. We mostly got great weather, it was only one day that was particularly bad. Mostly it was between 7°C - 13°C (45°F - 55°F) the whole time.

I NEVER saw it get dark and that was a novelty to me the entire trip. Like it never settled in as something I got used to. Presumably it got mostly dark somewhere around 2 am but I was always asleep by then and even if I woke up to go the bathroom, it'd be like 4 am and already light again. The furthest north we stayed was Ísafjörđur, and according to timeanddate.com by May it never reaches full dark, only civil twilight for 3 hours and daylight the other 21. I can't imagine if I'd actually have been there during the solstice, with just that extra month for the days to be even longer!

Now I want to go back for a short winter trip to see the northern lights and then for a proper summer trip to see the highlands (closed the whole time we were there for thawing season)

Kadalia

Kadalia is a medium-sized continent, located within the Southern and Eastern Hemispheres, surrounded by the Kadalian Ocean from the north, west and east and by the Sagastanian Ocean from the south. The Voay Sea (also called the Voay Channel) lies between Kadalia and Africa, while the Sea of Sejuk separates Kadalia from Sagastan. The archipelago of Tanana, as well as multiple islands, such as Panya, lay on Kadalian continental shelf and are considered part of the continent, especially since many of them (though not the Tanana Archipelago) were connected to the mainland during the glacial maximums.

Kadalia is composed of different parts of ancient continent of Gondwana, those that in OTL would form Madagascar, Kerguelen, Seychelles and Mascarene Islands. On Tehar, they are conjoined in the form of a large landmass above sea level.

Kadalia has a variety of climates, from frigid tundras of Sejuk to hot rainforests of Tanana. It has relatively few mountains and is mostly flat. Kadalia is home to an extraordinarily unique biota, since it existed separate from the other landmasses for at least 66 million years. It's human history is long, and nowadays it is home of a variety of ethnic groups. Historically it was often considered "the crossroads between Libya and Tanah", and humans first came to it's shores from both sides.

Compared to the mountainous landmasses, such as Skiffia or Hatunwata, Kadalia is relatively flat. It's highest mountain is Mount Hitam, part of the Besar Mountains, in the southeast. It reaches just 3568 meters above sea level. The lowest point of Kadalia, the marshy lowlands of Lubang Rawa, is -13 meters below sea level. Most of the continent is either flat or hilly, with only a few minor ridges. The lowlands are home to multiple large rivers, flowing from the mountain peaks towards seas or lakes.

Volcanism is relatively prevalent in the southernmost parts, such as Besar, as well as in the Alas and Ramona Ridges. Active volcanoes exist, with multiple eruptions in the last few hundred years.

Glaciation exists in a significant portion of the mountains of Kadalia. While no part of the continent is covered by ice shields, unlike, for example, the frozen Sagastan, the glaciers in the southeast frequently reach low latitudes. Ocean waters south of Kadalia are often full of icebergs.

The most famous lake on Kadalia, the Ularair Lake, is of glacial origins. It has been carved up during the LGM.

Kadalia has been isolated since Late Cretaceous, when it completely broke away from Arda, right before the end-Cretaceous mass extinction event. Prior to that, it was a part of the ancient continent Gondwana, which causes a large portion of it's biota to share common origins with those from other Southern Hemisphere landmasses.

The minerals of Kadalia include copper, iron, manganese, gold, sapphires and others. Fossil fuels found include moderate amounts of oil, gas and relatively larger reserves of coal.

The first thing he recognized was fire.

When he couldn't suppressed his scream, and for that, when he drew air, his lung burned like acid poured straight into his throat. While he painfully coughed in the toxic gas, he finally realized that his mask was shattered piece by piece in his hand that was holding his mouth.

Which was not pleasant.

When he stood, he felt sharp pain through his whole body, so that probably meant many bones of him broken. If that's what it takes for a surviving plane crash, he tried to think calmly, it will hardly be worst bargaining.

When he was flying the sky of Cato neimoidia, he was doing last sweep for any last remaining enemies. He and his wingman Jag flied through clean sky and tall buildings, watching from above marching troopers, beautiful bridge city.

'They already deployed new shinies down there.'

Captain Jag had pointed the marching young clones.

'Hopefully, those boys would be able to survive longer than before.'

'Our fight in this place is almost over. They maybe not even need to fight in here.'

Plo replied with hope; he knew this whole war would be soon over. Count Dooku was defeated, it was a matter of time. And when this sweep is over, he would finally inform that Cato neimoidia is safe from separatists, he could go back to his home. After a long and painful deployment on this battlefield, him and the whole 442nd were devastated and tired. If he could be back in home, he would find his families he can talk, and favorite meditating places he can rest. Maybe, he could finally meet his little 'soka, again. Last time, he heard that she came back to them to fight with them again. How he missed her, with deep grief and regret. If she can forgive his grave mistake, and allow him to ever talk to her...

And there was a sudden warning in the Force.

It was from behind.

It was impossible, there's no enemy detected yet, and only one behind him was his wingman, how could this-

And then the whole world shattered.

And then he could finally remember. The shot was from his wingman.

And it was still impossible. There wasn't any intention for killing and betrayal felt in the Force from Captain before flying. Jag was a great man. He valued the lives rather than success or victory. That's why he evacuated his troopers from battle that they couldn't win, and took any punishment of failure for his mans safety. How could he do this unreasonable betrayal by his own choice?

Still confused, he tried to look around. The place was messed. When he looked up, there was now fallen bridge, which was smoking with fire. When he looked down again, he could recognize that a big part of the bridge had fallen with his starfighter. It was a miracle that he was alive somehow.

And that was the worst kind of miracle.

First, he saw a white shining helmet between debris. He recognized that the clone trooper's body was buried under wrecks. He quickly approached the body and stood there, witnessing the truth.

There was no living energy felt in the Force.

There was nothing, while there were bodies everywhere.

Each body was broken, buried, and shattered with wreck of bridge. Armors of them weren't painted, so they were what they called Shiny, the youngest clones that just got out from Kamino. None of them was moving. No one is calling help or screaming in pain.

Feeling like his own heart dropped down, Plo slowly set down on dirt and closed his eyes, and spread his Force sense. He tried to reach anyone, anything, that if there's still lives that he can help, he can save. But when he released himself in the Force, only he could feel was more pain and death. Everywhere in the whole galaxy, all of his families screamed in disbelief and grief. Almost all of them dying painfully, not even younger ones were spared...

And when he finally reached his limit, from pain and grief, he had witnessed, he lost consciousness with silent cry.

There was no Jedi anymore.

Clones had betrayed them with no hesitation.

And in the middle of now newly created Empire's place, Plo was standing there, unsure what to do.

Ashes still snowed from fire in bridge above them, down where Plo and the body of shinies' laid down. Ground and the clues of so many deaths were already buried under gray ash. Plo remembered the color of his battalion's armors. Wolffe once said that gray means grieving for close ones they lost. Mourning for their lost families.

Is this the meaning of the fight? The result of their choices?

His dear niece, Sha said to him, that this was is meaningless. While she was grieving his dear padawan, and fallen troopers, she was disgusted by the Republic that only focused on her 'victory', and she told that any good reason for this war will never change the fact they sacrificed many great mans lives.

His royal and brave Commander Wolffe once told him, that clones have so many doubts in this war, but they still don't have choice but fight or die, because they were made and taught for that. That he wonders if they had the actual chance to choose their life other than fighting in war till death, how many would remain here to fight.

In deep inside of Plo's heart, he secretly agreed with them. He never wanted slaves, the slaves made for them to fight with them. No other choice but to follow orders, fighting till death or thrown out like trash when they used. He deeply cared for and respected any clones lives, but at the same time, he was disgusted about how they were 'made' like things. After Shaak's care in Kamino, clones' rights were slightly got better for his relief, but it was still heavy burden that he was leading the army of young troopers to their graves.

Maybe this was their punishment, for how they changed for fighting the war, for how they justified using clones for their fights, for how clones had to suffer under their command.

But then he also remembered.

Before he and 104th's last farewell(Plo didn't know that would be the last), Wolffe told him with his honest heart.

'I never regret fighting with you, General. Even if you still doubt your leadership for our great loss... We are all glad that you're our Jedi. Because you care and believe about us, and we are doing the same to you.'

And they talked about their fights, what they were fighting for, those whom they managed to save, and those pleasant memories that they made together.

If you ask him about war, he would answer that he had doubts about why they're fighting, and feared what they became through time in war. But even that, he would never regret meeting and fighting with his troopers, brave and charming friends. And fighting for saving lives and right things, in the violence spreading through galaxy.

He needed to move. He needed to keep living for what they fought and grieved.

First thing first. He needed to find others.

He never felt little 'soka's death in the Force.

If the galaxy would ever allow him, there's still a chance that he will meet her again.

If will of the Force would allow him to reunion with whose he deeply misses, he would wait and live till that time comes.

With newly rooted hope in his heart, he started to move again to his pass.

Hot as hell today but had a great bike rally ride

Still on my journey to become a more competent confident cyclist. Today was really tough but the fact that my legs felt fine even after 66 miles was great! Just really hot. It’s amazing how this time last year when I did my longest ride of 65 miles I was really struggling, but today even with a helluva lot of climbing and 100+ temps I still had gas in the tank

Maybe an Ironman IS possible 🤔

5. Favourite Reid Hairstyle

Okay I have a very very real thing with mid-length hair Reid (s8 10 11 urg) but GOD DAMN I still remember him walking in first episode of season 9 with that undercut but still fluffy and long on top I almost hyperventilate.

His elongated nape somehow makes his jawline pop even more someone need to call the fire department this man hotness is getting out of control and you know I am a sucker for Route 66 Reid Supremacy.

24. What's your favourite TV Show that isn't CM?

I think I will always have soft spots for F.R.I.E.N.D.S and HIMYM but the recent ones I added to the list would be Pose, Sense8 and definitely Modern Family (found family is my soft spot lmao)

I'm currently still waiting for the new season of The Bear and Grey's Anatomy lowkey I've invested in GA for too long to drop it

31. Do you have any travel plans?

I don't have any plan in sight but me and my friends want to travel to Asia together sometime next year :) (for me to be their tour guide in my home country lol)
