pairing: justin bieber x sza
summary: in which two superstars announce their relationship to the world
author's note: this music video did something to me, i needed to do this. so Hailey is not the picture, no Jelena (the relationship is DONE), SZA is not a pathological liar here, just vibes. (no Hailey slander or Hailey vs Selena debate allowed. Again, just vibes)

[📍64th Annual Grammy Awards]
“And the Grammy goes to…” Avril Lavigne spoke to the microphone before opening the envelope and reading the names
“Kiss Me More, Doja Cat featuring SZA”
The beautiful black woman walked up to the stage walking as slowly as possible since Doja had taken a toilet break at the wrong time. The both of them gave a little speech before going back to sit down.
The ceremony ended and all the celebrities stood up, going to a private space to leave. As she left the room, her eyes came in contact with a certain someone’s eyes. As if they had had a conversation through their irises, he left the room, Solana following him discreetly to a dark hallway.
“What are we doing he-” She was cut off by some hands wrapping around her waist.
“J, someone could see us” Solana informed constantly looking around to see if anyone was there.
“But they’re not here right now”
His tattooed hand grabbed her jaw, bringing their faces closer until their lips collided. Her arms surrounded his neck as their heads tilted, deepening their kiss. Minutes into them making out, she softly pulled him away, laughing at his frustration.
“Wait at least until we’re back to the hotel” Solana completely got away from his grip. “Can’t risk seeing us on tomorrow’s front pages”
“Imagine: SZA and Justin Bieber caught doing it at the Grammys”
Justin and Solana had met at a celebrity birthday party years ago. They grew friends as they healed from past relationships, helping one another. It all changed when Justin invited her for a date at his house since they didn’t want to be seen in public. She gladly accepted, leading to them spending the night talking, a glass of alcohol in their hands. Months after, they officialized their relationship, choosing to keep it private. To the public, Solana was SZA, this voluptuous woman, talented singer and Justin, the world’s favorite it boy.
“Yeah, can’t let this happen”
“I have to congratulate you on your Grammy though” He sent her a smirk as she avoided eye contact.
“Guess you’ll have to wait, babe”
Solana walked off going back to her team and preparing to leave.

[📍Hotel]
Solana just got back from the after-party. She entered her hotel room and immediately kicked her heels off. She fell flat on her bed before hearing the door open. A smile appeared, already knowing who it was.
Justin lay down on the bed as Solana, got on top of him, straddling him.
He didn’t waste any time to kiss her, ready to spend the night close to her.
[📍Studio]
Solana sat in her studio listening to different instrumentals. None of them inspired her anything, resulting in her scrolling on Instagram, barely concentrating on her music. A notification popped, which drew her attention.
JB
I just had a dream about u
Sol
And what happened?
JB
can’t text you that 😏
Solana liked his text before finally noticing the beat that was playing.
“Hey, put that on repeat, I like that one” She spoke to her engineer as he did so. She took her notepad and a pen to write lyrics.
I can’t lose when I’m with you

Week 6 - A #CancelCulture Crisis (TW - Sexual assault and abuse)
Tumblr media
Nowadays whenever someone does or says something wrong, be it defending a convicted criminal or something much more trivial, the first instinct a lot of people on the internet have is to “cancel them” In recent years the term “Cancel Culture” grown ever more prominent, with nearly everyone who uses the internet regularly being familiar with this term. But what is “Cancel Culture”, and is it actually useful?
The basic dictionary definition of “Cancel Culture” is defined as “the practice or tendency of engaging in mass canceling as a way of expressing disapproval and exerting social pressure” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.) In simpler terms, cancel culture is a collective boycott done by the masses or common-folk like you and I directed towards something or someone after a perceived wrongdoing. It’s also a phenomenon that happens primarily on its birthplace, the internet, and is usually used to shed light on something horrible that has happened for the purpose of seeking justice for the victims or prevention from it happening again.
Social media has also been pivotal in cancel culture’s rise. When we think about some of the prominent “cancellations” that pushed cancel culture into the forefront of everyone’s minds and vocabulary, disgraced celebrities like R. Kelly, Louis C. K. and Kevin Spacey usually come to mind given their various sexual assault and abuse crimes were heavily talked about when cancel culture was becoming prominent. (Lo-Booth, 2024) Hashtags like #MuteRKelly were plastered across social media, an incident which can be considered a success for cancel culture and what it stands for.
Born in 2017 and popularized in 2018, #MuteRKelly was a campaign launched by two grassroots activists seeking to put him behind bars for his numerous crimes. And these crimes weren’t new either. For years rumors of his abhorrent conduct towards young black and brown children and especially young women were circulating with numerous attempts being made to draw attention to them but to no avail. However, in the eve of a concert R. Kelly was set to have in Atlanta, the hashtag was launched and quickly morphed into an international campaign to bring R. Kelly to justice. (Barnes, 2021) And it worked! In June of 2022 R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his crime of using his celebrity status to sexually abuse children and women. (Savage, 2023)
Now while that’s all well and good, there have been times cancel culture has backfired spectacularly. Remember earlier when I mentioned Louis C.K.? In 2017 he was hit with allegations from five different women who accused the comedian of masturbating in their presence as well as committing other sexually inappropriate acts towards them. While he previously denied the allegations ultimately C.K. admitted to his wrongdoings and spent the next five years laying low in the media’s eye whilst still selling out dozens of comedy shows. And then he won a Grammy. (Jones, 2022)
In 2022 C.K. took home the Grammy for “best comedy album” from the 64th Grammy awards beating out five other nominees. Naturally the internet was in uproar, but this isn’t the first time cancel culture has resulted in a temporary solution to a much bigger problem. Musicians like Micheal Jackson and yep, even R. Kelly, saw their music streams increasing despite decades of cancellations for their misdeeds. (ProCon, 2020)
So is cancel culture worth it? Well, yes. But also no…You see it depends on the context of the cancellation. When cancel culture is applied to a serious crime, like say sexual assault, then it’s absolutely worth it and even necessary. Yes streams for R, Kelly’s music did increase but he’s also in jail now and that’s partly thanks to cancel culture. However, the line gets blurred when the crime isn’t as clear cut as that.
In a world where social media condenses complicated social issues into minute-long exposes, something as complicated as human nature gets turned into a black or white issue where if you aren’t on the side of the cancellation it automatically makes you a bad person. In turn what this does is it discourages discussions, when in actuality a nuanced discussion is sometimes all that’s necessary. (Dudenhoefer, 2020)
At the end of the day, maybe that’s what we should all practice going forward. Encouraging discussions and actually listening to what’s being said in those conversations.

Happy 64th Birthday Brian Alexander "B. A." Robertson, born September 12th 1956.
Robertson was born and raised in Glasgow attending the former Allan Glen's School, Glasgow,[and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama. He recorded his first album "Wringing Applause", for Ardent Records in 1973. It enjoyed modest critical acclaim, and a nomination in Down Beat Magazine's year end poll. He made four further albums, but had little commercial success.
During these years, he combined his career as an artist in a writing and production partnership with bassist Herbie Flowers. BA wrote and produced with Herbie, and worked with an eclectic crowd, including Lionel Bart, Joe Brown, Jim Cregan, Ray Cooper, Micky Dolenz, Gillian Gregory, Georg Kajanus, Harry Nilsson, Phil Pickett, Annie Ross, Sandie Shaw, and Chris Spedding.
He made his first television appearance with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel (1976), played piano on the B side of "Come Up And See Me Make Me Smile".
Before finding fame in his own right B A teamed up with guitarist Terry Britten and wrote over 20 worldwide hits, the pick of them for Cliff Richard, the songs Carrie and Wired for Sound, the latter was nominated Ivor Novello Song of the Year in 1981.
It was around the same time his singing career took off. He enjoyed chart success in Europe, with six hit singles as an artist. The first, "Bang Bang", achieved sales over 1 million, the last Flight 19, in 1982, a #1 in Iceland! This track inspired a ground breaking music video directed by Brian Grant. BA was nominated Ivor Novello Songwriter of the Year 1980, UK Male Vocalist, Daily Mirror Rock & Pop Awards 1980, JVC Scottish Musician of the Year 1982. He recorded with Maggie Bell in 1982, Frida from Abba, 83, and Lulu in 84.
As well as appearing in concert, he also featured on radio and television. Was a frequent guest broadcaster for the BBC, from 1980 to 1985. Hosted his own music series "BA In Music". In 1986 he was commissioned to compose the music for The Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. He has written more than 30 themes, songs, and scores, for film, television and special events. These include "The Other Side of The World" by Chaka Khan for the motion picture "White Nights", music for one of the UK's longest running talk shows "Wogan", and "We Have A Dream" for Scotland's World Cup Football Squad of 1982.
Throughout the 80's and 90's he continued to write and work in the studio with another diverse group, including Sam Brown, Roger Daltrey, Lonnie Donegan, Dave Edmunds, Bernard Edwards, Peter Frampton, Alan Gorrie, John Jarvis, Maz + Kilgore, Joe Sample, Helena Springs, and Andy Taylor (Duran Duran).
He met Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford in 1985, and began a second long term writing collaboration. He introduced Paul Carrack to the embryo Mike & The Mechanics. As writer and musician, he featured on six of their studio albums. Wrote their first hit single "Silent Running", Billboard's number 1 Rock Song of 1986, and the international success, "The Living Years". This most celebrated of his lyrics written when his father died twelve weeks before the birth of his son.
At the 1990 Grammy Awards, "The Living Years" had four nominations, including Song of the Year. BA was pipped for the statuettes by good friend Arif Mardin and "The Wind Beneath My Wings". In London, at The Ivor Novellos, 'The Living Years' topped 1991 Grammy winner "Another Day in Paradise" for Best Song.
He was invited to set up offices at The Walt Disney Studio, by Michael Eisner, and Jeffrey Katzenburg. BA moved with his family to Los Angeles. He remained a feature on the lot for over three years. Was Creator, and Producer of Grammy nominated, multi-platinum, music video, "Simply Mad About The Mouse". Artists include Harry Connick Jnr., LL Cool J., Billy Joel, and Bobby McFerrin.
1991 saw "Silent Running" and "The Living Years", awarded "MillionAir" status by BMI, for more than one million broadcast performances in the US. "Silent Running" has now reached almost three million plays, and 'The Living Years' over four.
From 1993 through 1995, he put together, "With Your Hand on My Heart" for Patti LaBelle and Michael Crawford. Michael's album had a double Grammy nomination and world wide sales of more than 2 million. Wrote music for "Baywatch", the world's most popular television show and collaborated on a musical with Burt Bacharach.
He continued to work with Mike & The Mechanics, had six songs in the "Beggar On A Beach of Gold" project including the title song, and another six on their, multi-platinum CD, "Hits". He worked as writer, and musical associate to Phil Ramone on the stage production "EFX”, at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. The opening song "Somewhere in Time”, a collaboration with John Barry.
For the past 20 years or so Robertson has lived in Ireland, continually working on various projects he is still in high demand, Over the years, B A has accumulated more than 70 silver, gold, and platinum record awards. He lives with his wife, designer Karen Manners, they have two adult children.
I've chosen this song because it is my favourite Scottish World goal offering, remember, if you are old enough, four years previously, Andy Cameron proclaimed, We're Going to WIN the world Cup, by the time 1982 came B A Robertson knew that it was a dream. Oh I must add, the last World Cup Scotland was in 1998, and the much more realistic song was by Del Amitri, and calle Don't come home too soon, which as always we did, failing to get beyond the first stages yet again
