Had it Coming (Part 5): Hook'sSister!Reader X Christian Cage, Reader X Jack Perry

Summary: It's been some months after the confrontation with Jack about your relationship. Are things still holding up strongly in your life?

You thought that all of your problems were solved. You thought you were actually moving towards happiness yet again. But no, this shit can’t get any fucking worse.

It’s been approximately 6 months since you last saw Jack. For the first month, you kept receiving messages from him ranging from angry to sadness. You blocked his number but he was getting new phone numbers and using his friends’ phones to text you. You ended up getting a new number but that didn’t even stop him as he even began texting you on Instagram and Twitter.

It was driving you crazy, the constant noise of your phone going off, and the constant feeling that you were being watched. You started to seek therapy because of it and tried everything to distract you from it. Even Tony allowed you to take time off however much you needed to cope and heal.

But then one day and for the rest of the 5 months, he was radio silent.

It wasn’t because he finally got the hints though. It was because he signed to New Japan Pro Wrestling. Because they have a rigorous training and performance schedule, he didn’t have enough time to text you.

The new silence and peace allowed you to focus on other and more important things. You started wrestling again and actually made you feel better. You were winning more matches all by yourself, the crowd slowly but surely started to get behind you again, and you were rising up to be one of the top talents within the women’s division. You decided that being in the ring was the best course of action for your career, mindset, and peace. After all, there wasn’t much you could do in just a managerial position, besides supporting your boyfriend.

And speaking of your boyfriend, you two have been going through some challenges within your relationship. Christian was keeping a closer eye on you. He never allowed you to leave the house by yourself when you had days off, and when you were at work you were always escorted to your destinations. At first, it was endearing, however, over time it became smothering and overbearing. It was like Christian was becoming less of the person you fell in love with and more into a….

Bother.

After all, he hasn’t been catering to your needs or relationship, always focused on work. You’ve tried to tell him your feelings but he doesn’t seem to listen as he’s too absorbed with his career. And was too absorbed to even send you flowers like he normally does.

He began to get very obsessed with his TNT Championship and his rivalry with his former best friend, Adam Copeland. He started to wrestle even less than usual and just paraded around the building before going home. And then he became very obsessed with The Patriarchy, the name of his faction. Originally, it was just you, Christian, and Luchasaurus. But now, you were in and out of the picture, he changed Luchasaurus’ name to Killswitch, and he added Nick Wayne to the group, the same kid he embarrassed months ago. Which all contributed to why you’re sitting here in the group’s locker room now.

Killswitch was pacing around the room, shadowboxing the air. You were sitting on the couch listening to Nick Wayne and his various questions and stories about wrestling. He’s a sweet kid, a second-generation wrestler, and very curious just about life. His big brown eyes just lit up every time you offered him advice or laughed at his jokes.

“So Miss. Y/N-“

“Nick, I told you that you don’t have to call me that. Y/N is fine with me.”

“Oh okay, Y/N, has Mr. Cage always been very stoic? He seems to be very uptight.” Nick said in a whisper, careful to not let Killswitch hear.

You giggled as you looked towards the open door where Christian was loudly talking on the phone.“Yeah, but he knew how to relax, have fun, and make others a priority. But right now, he’s going through a phase.” Nick’s eyes widened at you as you cleared your throat. “He’s just a little on edge right now. But look at the bright side; you’re improving so much in the ring.”

Nick smiled at you, “Thank you! Mr. Cage has really been giving me great pointers. But I also wanna thank you for helping me with that submission move.”

“No problem, I-“ you started but cut yourself off when you heard Christian start to yell in the hallways. You excused yourself before going in the hallway and shutting the door. You grabbed his phone and put it up to your ear, making your boyfriend’s jaw drop. “I’m sorry for that. Mr. Cage is busy and will have to call you later. Thank you!” You said before hanging up the phone.

“Y/N-“

“You are being way too loud and you're going back to your old ways. This is the first time you’re yelling on the phone in months.”

His eyes cut at you and his tone grew to very stern, “That was a very important business-“

“Everything is very important business with you, right? The faction, your championship, but not your relationship. You’re focused on everything but me and I just ask if you can just once think about me.”

Christian’s face grew with confusion as he ran his fingers through his short dirty blonde hair. “Everything I do is for you Y/N. I fight for you, I protect you, I provide for you, especially ever since that day with Jack. But I’ve been trying to give you space since you feel smothered and whatnot.”

You huffed, upset that he hasn’t seen your ways yet, “Oh so that TNT Championship is for me? So this group is for me? Newsflash, all this is your doing and for your benefit but it wasn’t ever anything until I came into the picture. Has it ever crossed your mind that I feel smothered because I feel like I’m not in a relationship anymore? In terms of Jack, I’ve been doing a lot of healing but I cannot continue to heal if you’re holding me hostage like how he did.”

Christian’s eyes widened before shock, fear, and disappointment took over his eyes. It made your heart hurt, but it was something that you felt and you had to let him know. He stepped closer and leaned down, not taking his blue eyes off of you, “What are you trying to say?”

“I think you know what.” You whispered as his face was centimeters close to yours. The silence and air became so tense that you felt like you were suffocating. Before either of you could say something, his phone started to ring in your hand. He grabbed the phone and looked at the name.

“Go inside now. I’ll be there shortly.” He said as he turned his body away to answer the phone. Upon entering the locker room, you could have sworn his tone was more excited and softer…like how he used to talk to you. As you closed the door, Nick looked at you and gave you a soft smile. You sat next to him and began another conversation to wait out Christian.

Five minutes later, Christian came back into the locker room with something- someone in tow. She was a tall blonde woman, who was a little bit taller than Christian due to her heels. She looked like a supermodel. She was dressed in all black, matching your boyfriend’s actions. You looked over at Nick, whose eyes were about to pop out of his head. Already, you felt some off vibes. Christian cleared his throat to address the room.

“Everyone, I would like to introduce someone. This is will be my new manager,” Those words made both your stomach drop. However, him pulling flowers out from behind him to give them to her would make your heart drop. He continued, “and I’m sure she will be a great asset to The Patriarchy, please welcome Shayna-“

“Mom?” Nick’s voice shouted from beside you. Your eyes also began to pop out of your head. ”What is this?!”

“Nick, this is a business arrangement. This should be fun, I get more acquainted with the wrestling industry and I get to spend more time with you. Mr. Cage made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse.” She said giggling while leaning on his shoulder, making your boyfriend smile and chuckle. She rubbed his shoulder and flipped her hair while continuing to talk.

Normally, you wouldn’t get insecure about another woman near Christian but at this point, you couldn’t help it. It made your eyes and heart hurt, seeing them so comfortable together and for her to look like she naturally belonged next to him.

But also, it made you mad as hell that he was allowing someone else to showcase this behavior alone right in front of you.

To distract yourself, you started looking at your phone and you found two text messages. One was from your brother, Tyler, asking you to come see him as he had important news. From the looks of his text, which has no acronyms or emojis, you assumed that it was bad news. The other one was from an unknown number, you were about to unlock and read the text until a figure was standing over you. You looked up from your phone to see Shayna standing over you, with almost a smug smirk.

“You must be Y/N, I’ve heard a lot about you!” She said as her smirk transformed into a smile. You stood up and gave her a small fake smile. She extended her hand to you.

Looking at her hand, you said, “Nice to meet you. However, I should be going.” You stepped aside and headed towards the door.

“Killswitch, go with her,” Christian commanded as you opened the door. Killswitch started to make his way over to you.

You rolled your eyes saying, “These are family matters. I’m going alone.” Before slamming the door shut in Killswitch’s face. You quickly marched, damn near ran, to Tyler’s locker room.

You took a deep breath and opened the door. “Okay, you had no emotions in your text, is everything ok-” You looked up to see your brother…kissing a brunette woman.

Which at first you didn’t have a problem with.

Tyler quickly stepped away from the woman but soon grabbed her waist, turning her to you, to reveal all-too-familiar blue eyes mooning as she made an awkward smile.

“Anna?” You said with your voice hesitating. Anna Jay gave a small wave to you as Tyler scratched his neck and then ran his hand through his own hair.

Now, you have a problem with it. In a shocked state, turned around despite your brother’s protesting and asking you to let him explain. You shut the door and just kept walking down the hallway.

You were just shocked and angry. Your brother, whom you’re very close with just stood there making out with the same woman who was detrimental in the break up of your last relationship. You couldn’t help but think that all this trouble was karma catching up with you. After all, you did at first betray him to date his best friend and become his enemy at first.

As you’re trying to process what was happening between your relationship with Christian and your relationship with Tyler, your phone goes off to show you the message that you never opened. Your body naturally stopped in the hallway to pay attention to your phone. You swiped on your screen to reveal a message that sent chills down your spine and your phone crashing to the floor. Tears started to fill your eyes as you began to feel overwhelmed with all that was going on in your life. You dropped to your knees as you re-read the text with your tears hitting your now cracked phone screen.

Pairing: Jake Kiszka x Alaska (Lassie) Jones (OC)

Waited All Your Life Summary:

When a soul has suffered enough pain - it becomes that of a shell. A place no one can infiltrate, sacred and dark - and all alone. Jake and Alaska both closed off their souls to the rest of the world a long time ago, convinced that love would never be in the cards. They didn’t want it - they practically rejected it. Jake’s band Greta Van Fleet and Alaska’s band Icarus Casus were slowly becoming the most prominent rocks bands of their generation. But when they decided to take a month long trip together to the Chattanooga mountains to focus on their new albums - everything changed.

What happens when two souls, shut off from the world and all alone, find each other. Do they help rebuild what was broken - or do they burn everything to the ground.

[Alaska's POV]

The Kiszka family owned a set of cabins, one right next to the other on the Chattanooga mountains. It was family property, built by their grandparents who lived in Tennessee. The Kiszka’s grandparents passed away when the boys were little, meaning their only daughter Karen, inherited the houses. The boys grew up going there when they were little for vacations. It helped a great deal since it was quite pricey to take a family of 6 on a vacation. When family is not at the house, Karen rents it out for a little extra spending money. Josh had made all of the arrangements with his mother, and we were set to stay for a month. Greta would get the east cabin, and Icarus would get the west cabin. They were practically the same - not to mention they were about 20 feet away from each other, the picturesque mountains surrounding the isolated cabins on all sides - creating a true hideaway. I had briefed Mara and Grayson, who were more than happy to spend this time in the mountains, a perfect place for writing. Everyone was on board, and everything was in place.

The day came for everyone to head off to Tennessee. I woke up at 11 AM, smoked my morning cigarette, and started my day. As I started to pack my suitcase, I thought to myself; what do I even bring? Ive only stopped in Tennessee for a short while on a leg of our last tour, but other than that - what the fuck do I pack for a month long trip? Sweaters, t-shirts, leggings, track pants were the basics. Chilly nights, hot days, I would need a little something for everything. Are there even any places to swim up there? Is there a hot tub? I packed 3 bathing suits just encase. As I placed my 3 very simple and standard bathing suits in my luggage, a thought stopped me in my tracks. Jake. Jake was going to be there, Jake was going to see me every damn day. How the fuck am I suppose to approach this? I am staying in a cabin, for a whole month, right next to the man who hates me, and who also owns the cabin. What the fuck have I done? I didn’t really give myself ample time to process this, the planning and briefing got in the way - but holy shit. This month could either go one of two ways. One, Jake could get over himself and talk to me. I am not expecting us to be friends… but we could at least treat each other as mature twenty year olds for public purposes. Or two…. Jake continues to give me his snide marks and harsh glares…. Ignoring me for the entirety of our trip and evidently making things awkward. Im hoping, somewhere in that bruiting brain of his he has the smallest initiative in human interaction and doesn’t make things awkward. Either way, Jake was going to be seeing me every day. A.K.A. my first school crush, the boy who I barred from my brain years ago because it would never have happened. I took one of the bathing suits out of my luggage, replacing it with a more risqué one. Nothing will ever come of me and Jake, that I know. But that doesn’t mean I can’t give him a show, or at least show him in not the wierdo he recognized from our high school days. With that, I folded my low cut - wine coloured bikini and placed it in my bag. I didn’t necessarily have the biggest boobs in the world, but this bikini really made them pop as there was absolutely no support what-so-ever, letting the girls just sort of hang down there. I grabbed a few shirts that I liked, particularly this black one I owned - it was low cut, skin tight, and had lace around the cleavage area. Again, made the girls look real good, and did wonders for my waist. After grabbing a few more shirts, some pairs of pants, I grabbed more than enough underwear and a few bras, varying from casual lounge pieces to full on lingerie. Why the fuck am I bringing lingerie again? It’s not like anyone is going to see it. I settled on the fact that I had packed it for myself, I said as I was zipping up my suitcase and propping it up against the door.

I proceeded to check on Dallas, and make sure he was out of bed. He needed to pack, and we had lots of loading to do with all of the gear. When I entered Dallas’ room, he was on the phone with Sam. I could hear them already making plans and telling each other what they wanted to do with their month together, stranded on a mountain. Oh god, I feel as though I will most likely be acting as the babysitter for the next month. He is my baby brother and all, and I let him do what he wants on most occasions. But something tells me him and Sam will not hold back. Im just happy were gonna be on a mountain, far far away from any police and people. I can see that Dallas is packing whilst talking to Sam, I shoot him a thumbs up and leave his room.

Over the next few hours, me and Dallas had packed up all of our things into our van. Our luggages, duffel bags, coolers filled with food from the grocery run I had made the day prior, and all of our gear - which undoubtably took up the most space. Dallas’ drum kit along with a few extra pieces just encase something broke, two of my electric’s and one acoustic, my large tube amp, a standard 50 watt floor amp, my pedal board, and a plethora of wires and cords that were stuffed into a duffel bag to be organized at a later date. Mara had packed 2 of her bass’, her pedals and cords, and her tube amp. Last but not least Grayson added all of our recording equipment. It was safe to say you could not see out of the back window of the van, and things were a little crowded.

After having picked up Mara and Grayson, I called Josh to make sure he was on the road so he would be there by the time we got there to let us in. Once he confirmed, we did one last run through of anything we may have forgotten. Once all was said and done - we had embarked on the very long, 10 hour drive ahead of us.

The drive there was as to be expected. Periods of music, periods of talking, periods of silence, period of napping, you get the point. And after the long 10 hour drive that everyone was eagerly ready to be done with - we had arrived, driving through the dense forest and being wrapped up in green everything. As tedious as the drive was, this made it all worth it. I had a special love in my heart for terrain like this, sights you would never get in Michigan. The way you feel completely encompassed by nature, almost suffocating in it. It was alive.

I called Josh about 5 minutes out and sure enough, he along with Sam and Danny were waiting for us at the front door of one of the cabins, the one I assumed was theirs. But where was Jake? Hiding probably, out of his incessant and baseless hatred for me. Asshole. I put the gear into park, and got out of the car for the first time in hours. Relief spread through my body and I swear I felt like I was being reborn. It was through my stretching, that I noticed someone perched atop the balcony staring down in my direction. There he was, the spawn of satan himself. And fuckkk meee, Satan has never looked better. He was, truly, was he ever a sight for sore eyes (my sore eyes, from that stupidly long drive). Not to mention, holy shit. Jake had grown up, and hot didn’t even begin to cover it. He was ethereal. He was leaning against the wooden frame that lined the balcony, his body perched at a 45 degree angle as his forearms hung over the side. His long brown hair was blowing in the wind, a few pieces splayed across his face. I saw him reach up to his glasses and pull them slightly down the shaft of his nose, when I realized he was starring directly at me, as I was starring directly at him.

ABORT MISSION. I REPEAT, ABORT MISSION.

I thought to myself, as I quickly averted my gaze to Josh who was walk/running over to me from his cabin. He grabbed me, fully embracing me with his arms and spinning me around. I laughed to myself and grabbed him back, exited to be reunited with my best friend. “We are going to have the best fuckin’ month EVER Lass.” Josh said as he set me free, a huge smile lining his face. After giving Sam and Danny hugs - as well as the rest of the band exiting the car to introduce themselves, I leaned against the van as I pulled a cigarette and lit it, still mentally exhausted from the drive. Everyone was huddled in a circle getting aquatinted with one another, Sam and Dallas already more amped up than they usually are, and I just sat there and smoked, taking a breather for a moment. I couldn’t help but flash my eyes up to the balcony where Jake was still standing, his eyes still on mine. But for why? Was it something I was wearing, was it the fact that I was smoking? His eyes never left mine as I leaned, finishing my cigarette and stomping it onto the ground once it was done. Eventually, he left his spot on the balcony and went inside. My eyes hurt more from that thanthedrive.

Everyone had taken the liberty of grabbing whatever they could out of the back of the van, to move all of our stuff inside. I could hear inside our cabin, as the front door was wide open - Jake introducing himself to everyone. He must have gone through the back doors of the cabins to get inside. The noise more so turned into fuzz as I was focused on getting my guitars and the rest of my gear out of the van. I was bent at the waist into the back of the van, heavily extending my arm for a cord that had fallen out of a bag. Suddenly, the sunlight that I could could see from my peripheral had disappeared - as if there was suddenly a shadow cast behind me.

“Alaska.” My cheeks suddenly went a bright shade of purple. I was still arms deep in the van, ass out (picked a great moment there, Jacob) and facing away from Jake (thank the lord). I slowly propped by body upright. “Jacob.” I replied, my body still facing the van, my eyes wandering the contents left in it. Unfazed, is how I appeared on the outside. However on the inside, I was very, very much phased. But, perception is everything and you weren’t going to give him an ounce of satisfaction that easy. “You smoke now.” He said, as a statement rather than a question. I laughed at this, still looking down at whatever it was I was fidgeting with in my hands. “Incredible observation skills Jacob.” I replied, as I turned to him and smirked, wincing my eyebrows together slightly as if to say, ‘no shit dude’. The slightest of smiles lined his lips. “Ive been smoking since I was fourteen Jacob. But then again, how would you know that?” I smirked, my attitude coming out just the perfect amount. Not too mean, but at the same time putting him in his place. I was now looking directly into his eyes (and not from a balcony), which was a first for the both of us. His eyes slowly trailed from my lips, all the way down my body and all the way back up again. When our eyes met, he quietly laughed to himself as he turned around to walk back into the cabin. I admit, it takes a lot to leave me speechless - and speechless I was. What the fuck was that!? Has he ever heard of being slick, cause apparently not. He didn’t even bother to help me with the three guitars I was in the middle of moving. “Thanks for your help, asshole.” I yelled in his direction, my attitude coming right-the-fuck-out now thanks to my sheer annoyance. I could hear him laughing again, a sound I wished I could play over and over. “Anytime Darlin’.” He said, waving his hand in the air - his back still facing me as he continued to walk away.

What. The. Fuck. Why is he being… nice to me if that’s what that was…. and why was he (dare I say it) flirting???

As I entered our cabin with the first load of whatever was outside that my arms could carry, I immediately gasped. Josh said they had a few cabins. I was expecting a wooden box with a kitchen and bathroom. This was not that. In any sort of capacity. A Kardashian version of a cabin, if you will. I guess I should have gathered it was going to be a lot nicer than what I was expecting simply from looking at its exterior once we pulled into the driveway, but in all honesty - as soon as I saw him, every rational thought I’d had just… vacated from my brain.

The cabin was completely open concept, with 30 foot ceilings if I had to guess. There was a large, live edge wood staircase to my left, which led up to the loft area, exposed from the living room. Wherever floor to ceiling windows could fit, they were present, making the dark wood aesthetic look even more open and airy, thanks to all of the natural light. Persian rugs, sectional couches, and detailed art lined the living room. The whole thing was very vogue, but still held a lived in, cozy and familiar element to it. I looked at Josh, practically having to pick my jaw up off the floor. “Josh, you said cabin. Not Kardashian retreat lodge.” You said, Josh laughing at your star-struck reaction. “I guess I may have undermined its visual qualities in the slightest, but it is still a cabin after all” he replied, knocking the 30 foot tall wooden pillar in the middle of the room. “See! Cabin.” He finished. Ha ha Josh, very funny.

We had spent the next hour or so unloading all of the gear and setting it up in the living room. The place was so fuckin massive, that even with our full set up in a corner - it didn’t even a third of the room. Josh, sam and Danny had helped us set up (offering their conversation more so) but Jake, again, was no where to be seen. Once we finished setting up the gear, we all picked our rooms. Perfectly enough - there were 4 rooms. Mine and Mara’s were on the upper floor, where as Dallas and Grayson’s were on the main floor. Obviously, I claimed the master bedroom as soon as I could.

‘Knock Knock' I heard on the frame of my door, Josh standing there with his arms crossed. “Are you getting settled in okay lass?” Josh asked me. Gosh, could a human being ever be more sweet. “I just finished unpacking everything. God, this place is incredible Josh. Your mother is a saint for letting us all stay here, she must make some pretty good dough by renting it out.” I laugh. So does he. “Yeah, it definitely helps. And she pretty much has this place on retainer for us when we need to write, honestly your doing us a favour by filling it. Whenever we come, this house just stays empty.” He smiles his famous Josh smile. I walk over to him and give him a big hug. “Thank you. I needed this.” I said, quietly as I hugged him. He embraced me back.”I know Lass. I know. How have you been doing. Really.” He asked as he closed the door, us now walking to my bed. “Im okay, a little indifferent if i’m being honest. Some good days, some bad days.” I said, fidgeting with my fingers. “Are you still getting the nightmares?” He asked, his body language reeking of emotion and care. “Nope. Those have seemed to go away. I still don’t sleep the best, but at least I don’t have to deal with that anymore.” I lied. The nightmares were still very much present, I just didn’t want Josh worrying about me. He has already done so much for me over the years I’ve known him, especially after the accident. I don’t want him to worry an ounce more than I know he already does for me. “Well that’s good. I just want you to be okay one day. However long that takes, I will make sure you get there.” He smiled, pulling me into another hug. Touch was his love language, it was how he showed people he cared for that they could trust him. I was more than happy to accept Josh’s hugs, at any given moment. “Well, to celebrate our first day - our brothers are making a bond fire. Were all gonna sit around, drink, play some tunes. Have a chill night, I know you’re probably tired from driving all day.” He said, as he let me go. “Make sure there’s no gasoline lying around. Or fireworks.” I responded, Josh laughing as he knew exactly what I was getting at. “Oh yes my love, I have baby proofed the entire property for those two morons. There shouldn’t be anything lying around that will get them into too much trouble.” We both laughed heavily at this. Josh got up to let me finish up. “Be in the back in twenty.” He said, as he left my room.

I didn’t realize how late is was getting when I had walked outside. The sky was dark, stars littering every inch of my view. It wasn’t black out yet, and I could still see the line of the trees, how the river in the distance peaked through cushions of valleys and forest. I stood there, arms crossed and looking out into the vast and stunningly gorgeous sight in front of me. I wrapped the oversized cardigan I was wearing around myself a little tighter, the cool breeze making me momentarily shiver. I walked over to the fire, finding both bands now well acquainted. Josh was talking to Grayson about how enamoured he was with the tone of his voice, those two in deep conversation. Mara, Dallas, Sam and Danny were all standing around the fire, wondering how they can make it bigger. Oh gosh, don’t encourage them Mara. Mara loved hanging out with the boys, they always got along great and clearly that hadn’t seemed to change with the new additions she had just met. They started talking about what things they could put into the fire. I need a drink before they burn this entire place to the ground. “Josh, where’s the drinks?” I said in his direction, momentarily snapping him out of his conversation with Gray. “Inside Lass, kitchen.” He said, promptly starting where he left off with Gray. I walked through the sliding glass doors, through the living room and into the kitchen. Their cabin was basically the same as ours, some small architectural differences peaking through in various places. I spotted the assortment of alcohols on the kitchen table. Grabbing a glass out of the cabinet, my eyes scoured across the options in front of me. Ultimately, I ended up going with whiskey. The best of the alcohols in my opinion. I poured myself a shot, and let the warm liquid cascade down my throat. The burn felt nice.

“Save some for me.” Jake said as I was pouring myself another. He was leaning against the door frame behind me, his arms crossed and a glass of whiskey adorning his hand. The spawn of Satan is really spawning wherever he damn pleases. I turned around, leaning against the countertop. “Don’t worry Jacob, I brought more than enough whiskey. Better whiskey at that.” I said, eyeing my glass. “This is cheap shit. Which means I can afford to drink more of it.” He said matter of factly, a smirk resting on his lips. Maybe it’s the whiskey talking, but GOD did he ever look sexy in this dimly lit kitchen, shadows sitting over his perfectly chiseled face. There was something so intoxicating about him. Something so electric. “I suppose you’re right about that, Jacob.” Was all you could come up with in your brain. He walked into the kitchen, and sat on one of the barstools on the side of the island. He leaned into the countertop, his forearms resting there while he nursed his drink. “Tell me Alaska, why do you call me Jacob when you know people call me Jake.” He asked, looking into my eyes. What was this man doing? “Because I don’t know a Jake. Hell, I didn’t even know Jacob until earlier today when he finally opened his mouth after 6 years. You’ve never spoken to me once in all of our lives and you expect me to address you by your nickname?” He laughed at that, all while seemingly emptying whatever was left in his glass into his mouth. “You’re different than how I remember you, Lassie.” He said that last word with a tone I couldn’t put my finger on. He was now getting out of his seat. He walked slowly, and stood directly in front of me. So close in fact, I could feel his breath on my face. A million different thoughts ran through my head as I stood there unresponsive. He looked into my eyes, his eyes trailing down to my lips. My eyes, consequentially followed suit. He reached behind me, grabbing the bottle of whiskey (which was in arms reach where he was sitting before by the way…) and proceeded to pour himself another glass - never breaking eye contact. “And you’re different than I remember. More talkative, why is that huh? I’m assuming it’s just the whiskey talking, and that you’ll go back to hating me tomorrow.” I said looking up into those gorgeous big brown eyes - that were still only inches away from mine. “Ive never hated you Alaska.” He said, tilting one of his eyebrows up slightly. “Could have fooled me.” I said back. Essentially, we were having an intimidation contest - amidst the most intense starring competition I have ever experienced.

“Well you’ve always been all about Josh, what was I suppose to do.” He said, his tone changing from that of lust to that of frustration. “Josh is my best friend Jake. That’s all there is to it.” I said, a small smirk now resting on his face from my use of his nickname. Jake leaned over so his lips were practically grazing my ear. “Theres no way he hasn’t fucked you. I remember those few months, where he used to go over to your house instead of you coming to ours. It doesn’t take a fuckin’ genius to figure out what was going on.” He said, slowly. So slowly in fact, my blood had time to literally boil. What once was a fun flirtatious game that gave my stomach butterflies, was now an insult that made it churn. Jake (as far as I'm concerned) doesn’t know about the accident. He doesn’t know that Josh was there to help me, and nothing more. I was never going to tell him, but fuck. All it would take is one conversation with Josh and some decent listening skills to see that there is nothing going on between us, nor has their ever been. “Wow Jake. You’re really living up to your ‘Stupid Twin’ stereotype.”. Yes, low blow I know, but there was nothing else for me to day in that moment. I was livid, and now so was Jake. “What the fuck’d you just say to me?” He said, him still holding his previous position - inches away from my face.

“You heard me. You’re an absolute moron if you think anything ever happened between me and Josh. You have no fucking clue what you’re talking about.” I spat back, emotion falling off my face with that last sentence. “Enlighten me then. Tell me what that was all about and i'll get off your ass.” He said, now taking a step back, crossing his arms, and waiting for me to give him a response. Why did he care? Why does he even remember that? And what the fuck was I supposed to say. Tell him about the accident? Absolutely not. “He was just helping me with something. We were hanging out at my house. Why is it that big if a fuckin’ deal and more importantly - why the fuck do you care?” I replied after a brief moment of hesitation. “I just want you to admit to fucking my brother, Lassie.” He said back, clearly satisfied at the corner he thinks he’s put me in. But fuck that. He wants it to be like this - good. I am done playing nice, I don’t need his opinion, his commentary, or his company. “You know what Jake, if you wanna believe I fucked your brother - that’s on you cause clearly that’s the only answer you’ll be satisfied with. And for your information - only my friends call me Lassie. Therefore the term does not apply to you and It’s Alaska.” I spat back. He could tell I was mad, I could read his face processing my words as they came out of my mouth, the wheels turning in his brain. “Right, only your friends that fuck you can call you Lassie. My bad.” He said. The utter audacity of this man. Who the fuck did he think he was, my father? In that moment, I wanted to run my arm across the counter and smash every bottle it held. In moments like these, where I get so mad the anger has to come out somewhere, I usually end up doing some serious damage. I have trashed living rooms, cars, any given place really - out of sheer anger that my body physically cannot contain. Anger issues would be putting it lightly. However, this is not my house so smashing a large amount of alcohol wouldn’t be okay. After staring at him for a moment unsure of what to do, I grabbed the whiskey bottle from his hand and poured myself a drink. A large drink. I brought the glass to my lips, downing the entire 2-3 shots worth of whiskey, Jakes face looking slightly surprised. I placed the bottle on the counter, and held my glass up to his face. He just stood there. I then dropped the glass. It shattered into a million little pieces, making him jump a little upon impact. I could see the sheer surprise on his face, followed by anger. I gave him a smile and said “Have fun cleaning that up and thinking about me fucking your brother since that’s all you can seem to think about.” My flat tone exaggerated, and my face visibly upset. I turned and walked away. “Fucking bitch.” He said. “Anytime, Darlin.” I replied looking back at him, a smile finally returning to my face.

After that whole, encounter, with Jake I really didn’t feel like socializing. My battery was absolutely drained. I walked outside, and told Josh I was going to bed. He could see on my face that I was upset. “What happened Lass? Did Jake say something?” He asked concerned. Oh boy, did Jake ever ‘say something’ but I didn’t want to start anything between the twins so I decided to keep my mouth shut. “No, I’m just really tired. Im gonna head to bed. Love you.” I replied, and walked away before Josh could barricade me with more questions. By the look on his face he definitely wasn’t satisfied with that answer, but hell - if Jake wants to explain why I got so angry in the first place - its his own grave he’d be digging.

As I walked inside our cabin, I went straight for my purse that was on the counter and grabbed the container of joints I brought, taking one out of the small, white plastic tube. I grabbed a lighter, and headed for the front porch. I was still livid - my blood pumping overtime to match the speed of my brain. I closed the front door, lit the joint, and proceeded to take a long and hard hit, the weed going down the back of my throat with a burn. I didn’t even hear the door open, but all of a sudden Mara was sitting beside me. “You’re smoking without me? Not cool babe.” She said, as she took the lit joint from my fingers and took a hit. “Is this because of that argument with Jake?” She asked, motioning to the joint she was now handing back to me. I just stayed silent for a minute. “No one else heard - Josh was still consumed by Gray’s vocal techniques and well… Sam and Dallas are Sam and Dallas so their never paying attention. I heard it tho.” She said, looking up to the sky, in her best efforts to not pressure the conversation. God I have the best friends, how are they all so incredibly intuitive? I brought the joint to my lips, taking another hit before I passed it off to Mara again. “He accused me of sleeping with Josh.” Mara suddenly took her gaze off of the sky, now directed at me with big wide eyes. “No he did not. Is he stupid? You and Josh are best friends - and best friends only. Everyone knows that.” She said. I let out a small snark, expressing my distain for the whole situation. “Not only does Jake think that, he is utterly convinced.” I replied. She looked back up to the sky full of stars while handing me back the joint. “I mean, it makes sense.” She said. Now that, caught me off guard. “Why, pre-tell? It actually makes absolutely no sense.” I said, as more of a statement. “Lass, it was pretty damn obvious that when our van pulled up - he was only interested in the arrival of one person. You. I mean come on, the man was undressing you with his eyes. Not to mention, he called you ‘darling'." She said matter-of-factly. “How do you hear absolutely everything at all times.” I asked, turning to her in question. She just laughed that classic, nonchalant, Mara laugh I loved so much. “I just pay attention. I mean I knew this was going to be interesting, the whole thing between you and Jake.” She said, taking a hit of the joint. “There is no thing with me and Jake.” I replied, taking the joint out of her hand - which was not sadly almost finished. “Um yes the fuck there is. You two haven’t spoken, like ever, and you’ve just been dancing around the idea of each other. I saw the way he looked at you, and the way you looked back at him. The amount of sexual tension there is-“ I stopped her before she could finish that sentence. “Oh my fucking god Mara STOPIT!” I said in retaliation. “You may not believe me now, but just you wait girl.” She said. “Are you gonna be okay tonight Lass? The boys found a couple old wooden chairs were gonna burn.” She finished. I laughed. “I’ll be fine. Can you burn Jake while you’re at it please?” I added. She was now laughing. “Oh honey, that would be no fun! Then I wouldn’t get to see where this hatred for each other gets you two.” She replied, blowing me a kiss with her hand and walking inside before I could rebut her comment. I sat out there for another 10 minutes, looking up at the stars and waiting for the blissful herbs that had graced my throat to do their job. I used to smoke weed for fun with my old friends before the accident. Now I smoke as a necessity. It’s the only way I can sleep through the night without waking up screaming, and being addicted to anything is better than reliving something every day that makes you want to die.

[Jake’s POV]

She had used my own fuckin’ words against me. ‘Anytime Darlin’ was my line. A good one at that. And not only did she steal my line, she’s been here all of a few hours and was already smashing shit. God, she was the woman version of me. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I grabbed a dustpan from the cupboard and quickly cleaned up the glass. I had contemplated just leaving it, but knowing how everyone was drinking - I didn’t want to risk someone coming into the kitchen and unknowingly slicing their foot open. Wouldn’t be a great start to our ‘already super promising’ month of writing. As I was cleaning up the glass, my mind kept going back to mine and Alaska’s argument. When I asked her why Josh had been at her house every day, she couldn’t answer. Meaning, her and Josh most likely had fucked - who knows maybe they were still fucking. And right-on-cue, the man of the hour walked right through the door.

“What did you say to her Jake.” Josh said, b-lining from the living room straight for me. I continued to clean up the glass, ignoring him in the process. “What the fuck happened. — Did you smash another glass?” He said, his voice now angry. “No Josh, your stupid girlfriend did.” I said, standing up and looking him right in the eyes. Josh signed and rolled his eyes in annoyance. “Jake. I don’t know how many times I have to spell it out for you. SHES. NOT. MY. FUCKING. GIRLFRIEND.” He answered, more so yelled than answered. “Then why couldn’t she fucking answer me when I asked her why you were at her house every day all those years ago.” I could see the wheel spinning in Josh’s mind. His expression suddenly went blank, as if he’d seen a ghost. “Jake you seriously need to drop this. Alaska’s not some thing you can play with like you do with hundreds of other girls. DO NOT go prodding around in her head, or in her life. Please just leave her alone.” Josh said, the end of his sentence sounding like more of a plea rather than a threat. So she can’t answer me, and Josh isn't going to elaborate either. Either they definitely fucked, or there’s something else that me and no one else knows about. But what? What was everyone dancing around, this thing no one has been able to tell me?

When I saw her this morning, I was speechless. She had always been the most beautiful girl, but GOD, somehow she got even more beautiful if that were even possible. I hadn’t planned on talking to her. I thought, she would come with her band and things would be as they always have been. Silent. No communication, no relationship what-so-ever. But as soon as she pulled up and got out of the car, I just had to see her up close. I literally could. not. resist. And she SMOKES??? It’s rare in this day and age to find a girl who smokes. Not that I was particularly looking for that, but smoking - as odd as it is, has always been a huge turn on for me. Seeing someone pull something that can literally kill you right to their lips, as if they’re kissing death. The smell, the look, the smoke cascading through the air, the whole concept made me weak in the knees. I must have sounded like an absolute idiot this morning when I went and talked to her for the first time. But every part of it was worth it. Her, bent over the van as if she was just waiting for me to rip off her pants and have my way with her. God if I could, believe me I fucking would. Her being here is going to make this next month extremely difficult. Every time I look at her, i’m at a loss for words. Which is why her not being able to answer my question about Josh made me more upset than id like to admit. I know Alaska and Josh both deny any claims of ever having been together, but how in the world can he only be her best friend? Anyone in his position would be waiting for the opportunity to claim her as their own. I don’t know what I was expecting out of that argument - more of a concrete answer as to whether they had been together or not I guess, something I did not find. And a part of me, the biggest part, wanted to be reassured nothing had ever come from them. It’s not like I would ever be able to be with her, but somehow, I was still protective. I hated the idea of her being with anyone else, especially my brother. Her inability to answer a simple fucking question, as far as i’m concerned, told me everything I needed to know. God, she was so beautiful yet so infuriating at the same time. I wanted to scream at her for what she did, smashing that glass like that, then pin her against the table and fuck the shit out of her.

After pouring myself another glass and drinking the whole thing in one go, I decided my night was as close to over as it could be. I heard rumblings of the massive bond fire outside, Sam and Dallas yelling, and the natural noises of the dormant forest we were engulfed in. This month was going to be hell on earth. I want her so bad, but there is too much baggage that comes with this whole situation for that to ever happen. As I undressed myself down to my boxers, there was one thing I couldn’t get out of my head. Why couldn’t she answer me? Either she slept with Josh and their trying to cover it up, or it was something else.

1 - Share your favorite part of your latest fic T^T A trick question! I have many little moments I love! But okay, here's one I can quickly think of, from Ch 10 of VBEOW:

Armin reaches up his free hand to brush a lock of hair away from her face as she continues to hold his gaze. Eyes like the daylight sky, that hold strength and resilience within those light blue irises. They expand into the dark pupils of night whenever they focus on him and him only. The inside of his palm hollows to fit the gentle curve of her cheek and she leans into his touch. She keeps her eyes on his and doesn't break contact even when his thumb brushes along her delicate lower lashes. "What are you thinking?" She whispers. I want to make love to you, he thinks. Undress you, kiss you, take you high. His index finger brushes along her upper lashes, long and beautiful, and her eyelids flutter closed. He wants to make love to her. Give her ecstasy and pleasure and everything he has to offer. But he's so tired.

3 - If you look back at your first fic compared to your last, what's changed? This is answered over here :3

6 - Tell us about your longest fic Uh, VBEOW is... the current and only longfic xD I honestly have never written a chaptered fic before for several reasons, and I also didn't see myself doing this until 2 months ago when I thought about the sequel to TFLM and suddenly went "oh shit, I can't fit all this into a oneshot ._." And so it happened and the intro that was supposed to be 2 chapters became 7... and now I think it will extend well into the late twenties ._. All that said, I think it's the best use of my time that I've spent recently. It makes me very happy to think about, to plan, to write, and I'm glad I'm living my best life in this fic anyway xD I'm very proud of it for sure. I am also a fan of giving people a visual adventure/treat on anything I try to do, and here I've found an opportunity to do that for both the characters themselves, and for the readers.

7 - What was the inspiration behind your shortest fic? Shortest fic... would be... Falling Into Neptune at 4.6k words and it was this song: Tenno - Spirit of Life xD The song just told me to write about their first kiss in Fort Salta and to make it HOT.

9 - Which of your fics is your favorite and why? I'm sure I've already said this 329835923856 times xD But TFLM. Idk why exactly, if you asked me to point out how superior it is to VBEOW, I can't do that because it's not, and it's also not that complicated... but I guess I just really like the Fort Salta setting in general and I just fit all the magic into that last day as much as I possibly could. Also, considering it's given a great deal of inspiration for VBEOW, I'm very grateful to it :3

10 - Write about their first kiss! ... this question actually confuses me xD Because first kiss... as I've written it... or in general?? ._. But anyway, as a headcanon, I'd imagine it would be pretty awkward. With both of them secretly dying to kiss each other and also nervous as fuck; Armin will think too much, Annie will think too little - it's bound to be a little... messy, maybe? xD But they'll fall into rhythm in less than 0.5 minutes, because they're quick learners, and they're hot and awesome T//////T

11 - What annoys you the most about your own writing habits? Hm. First and foremost, the fact that I can't relax and slow down my pace. If a fic/chapter is mostly fully outlined in my head, I just can't go "Okay, i'll write this in two days" no, because I'm already itching to write it and I tend to ignore all my other responsibilities altogether xD Second is how I always second-guess my intelligence with plotlines I suppose.

14 - Tell us about a detail you wrote that nobody has commented on yet. I don't think it exists, especially not when you, in particular, pick up every detail and more xD However if we're strictly going to by "commented" I guess the only thing I can remember off the top of my head is that Kari-Armin interaction in Ch. 11 :3

If you like your machine and want to keep using it, it doesn't really matter if it was a $100 machine or a $1100 machine; its value to you should be worth the service. A good service will also identify and possibly fix problems that could end your machine's life prematurely.

Even if you didn't use the machine very much in the past year, if you have a premium machine that was meant to be serviced instead of thrown out and replaced, get it serviced like once a year. The grease and oil sitting in the machine in one place can start to harden, and if you're going to be using it again, it can really benefit from having new grease put in the gear box.

If your service place has a warranty on the work (if the problem comes back within 30 days you get a second service for free, or something) then DEFINITELY take it home and try to do something with it in that time frame. It can be a little project, like a pillow case or hemming a skirt, but if the problem comes back then you want to know in the timeframe that you have to get that warranty. If you don't use it for six months, and then the first time you try the problem is still there, the service people don't have to do shit about it for free even if it's their fault.

With all of that said, a lot of people are sewing on machines that were $80 and that they're not attached to, and they want to just use them until they break. Once it breaks, you can get a new one. This is a completely fine viewpoint. This is what a lot of budget machines assume will happen. If you're just starting out sewing, this can even have an advantage, as you can find new features that fit you better as you develop your skills. You might find a new machine that really fits what you need, and be able to use it for a long time. Just remember that if you're consistently breaking inexpensive machines, it might be the world showing you that it's time to get a good machine that was not meant to be disposable. A lot of sewing machine dealerships will offer their own protection plan, and if you're breaking a Singer Start* every four months, then getting a $400 machine and its associated service plan will pay for itself very quickly, and you won't be sewing on a piece of shit without variable stitches anymore.

That said, if you want to sew lolita fashion or any fashion really, you don't NEED a fancy machine. That's not a barrier for entry. Any way that you can sew two pieces together is going to be able to let you make things, and making things is what we're all about here.

Anyway, this is a complicated and long way of saying that when you take your machine to be serviced, and they say that your problems happened because you were using the wrong type of bobbin, saying, "but I've always used that bobbin" makes you look pretty stupid, because if the machine was working, you weren't using that bobbin. A reference point for people who don't work on sewing machiens, but that's like the technician saying that your machine wasn't sewing because you didn't put thread in it, and you saying that you never use thread to sew things. It's entirely possible that you think you're right, but you're definitely not right.

Things that you did in the past will also be examined during this time, so people might bring up something that you did in the past and wasn't discussed or crticized but then this time around somehow it's negatively seen. If you are in a public facing role, then you will have really high chances of someone in the past sharing something about you online, which will spread like wild fire.

You will also have to be careful of your words. You will easily get into arguments with others or be offended by others. People will also like to pick at your words during this time and use them against you. If you post things online or talk to others online, people may even screenshot and use those screenshots against you. 10 Lessons on Realistic Worldbuilding and Mapmaking I Learned Working With a Professional Cartographer and Geodesist

Hi, fellow writers and worldbuilders,

It’s been over a year since my post on realistic swordfighting, and I figured it’s time for another one. I’m guessing the topic is a little less “sexy”, but I’d find this useful as a writer, so here goes: 10 things I learned about realistic worldbuilding and mapmaking while writing my novel.

I’ve always been a sucker for pretty maps, so when I started on my novel, I hired an artist quite early to create a map for me. It was beautiful, but a few things always bothered me, even though I couldn’t put a finger on it. A year later, I met an old friend of mine, who currently does his Ph.D. in cartography and geodesy, the science of measuring the earth. When the conversation shifted to the novel, I showed him the map and asked for his opinion, and he (respectfully) pointed out that it has an awful lot of issues from a realism perspective.

First off, I’m aware that fiction is fiction, and it’s not always about realism; there are plenty of beautiful maps out there (and my old one was one of them) that are a bit fantastical and unrealistic, and that’s all right. Still, considering the lengths I went to ensure realism for other aspects of my worldbuilding, it felt weird to me to simply ignore these discrepancies. With a heavy heart, I scrapped the old map and started over, this time working in tandem with a professional artist, my cartographer friend, and a linguist. Six months later, I’m not only very happy with the new map, but I also learned a lot of things about geography and coherent worldbuilding, which made my universe a lot more realistic.

1) Realism Has an Effect: While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with creating an unrealistic world, realism does affect the plausibility of a world. Even if the vast majority of us probably know little about geography, our brains subconsciously notice discrepancies; we simply get this sense that something isn’t quite right, even if we don’t notice or can’t put our finger on it. In other words, if, for some miraculous reason, an evergreen forest borders on a desert in your novel, it will probably help immersion if you at least explain why this is, no matter how simple.

2) Climate Zones: According to my friend, a cardinal sin in fantasy maps are nonsensical climate zones. A single continent contains hot deserts, forests, and glaciers, and you can get through it all in a single day. This is particularly noticeable in video games, where this is often done to offer visual variety (Enderal, the game I wrote, is very guilty of this). If you aim for realism, run your worldbuilding by someone with a basic grasp of geography and geology, or at least try to match it to real-life examples.

3) Avoid Island Continent Worlds: Another issue that is quite common in fictional worlds is what I would call the “island continents”: a world that is made up of island-like continents surrounded by vast bodies of water. As lovely and romantic as the idea of those distant and secluded worlds may be, it’s deeply unrealistic. Unless your world was shaped by geological forces that differ substantially from Earth’s, it was probably at one point a single landmass that split up into fragmented landmasses separated by waters. Take a look at a proper map of our world: the vast majority of continents could theoretically be reached by foot and relatively manageable sea passages. If it weren’t so, countries such as Australia could have never been colonized – you can’t cross an entire ocean on a raft.

4) Logical City Placement: My novel is set in a Polynesian-inspired tropical archipelago; in the early drafts of the book and on my first map, Uunili, the nation’s capital, stretched along the entire western coast of the main island. This is absurd. Not only because this city would have been laughably big, but also because building a settlement along an unprotected coastline is the dumbest thing you could do considering it directly exposes it to storms, floods, and, in my case, monsoons. Unless there’s a logical reason to do otherwise, always place your coastal settlements in bays or fjords.

Naturally, this extends to city placement in general. If you want realism and coherence, don’t place a city in the middle of a godforsaken wasteland or a swamp just because it’s cool. There needs to be a reason. For example, the wasteland city could have started out as a mining town around a vast mineral deposit, and the swamp town might have a trading post along a vital trade route connecting two nations.

5) Realistic Settlement Sizes: As I’ve mentioned before, my capital Uunili originally extended across the entire western coast. Considering Uunili is roughly two thirds the size of Hawaii the old visuals would have made it twice the size of Mexico City. An easy way to avoid this is to draw the map using a scale and stick to it religiously. For my map, we decided to represent cities and townships with symbols alone.

6) Realistic Megacities: Uunili has a population of about 450,000 people. For a city in a Middle Ages-inspired era, this is humongous. While this isn’t an issue, per se (at its height, ancient Alexandria had a population of about 300,000), a city of that size creates its own set of challenges: you’ll need a complex sewage system (to minimize disease spreading like wildfire) and strong agriculture in the surrounding areas to keep the population fed. Also, only a small part of such a megacity would be enclosed within fantasy’s ever-so-present colossal city walls; the majority of citizens would probably concentrate in an enormous urban sprawl in the surrounding areas. To give you a pointer, with a population of about 50,000, Cologne was Germany’s biggest metropolis for most of the Middle Ages. I’ll say it again: it’s fine to disregard realism for coolness in this case, but at least taking these things into consideration will not only give your world more texture but might even provide you with some interesting plot points.

7) World Origin: This point can be summed up in a single question: why is your world the way it is? If your novel is set in an archipelago like mine is, are the islands of volcanic origin? Did they use to be a single landmass that got flooded with the years? Do the inhabitants of your country know about this? Were there any natural disasters to speak of? Yes, not all of this may be relevant to the story, and the story should take priority over lore, but just like with my previous point, it will make your world more immersive.

8) Maps: Think Purpose! Every map in history had a purpose. Before you start on your map, think about what yours might have been. Was it a map people actually used for navigation? If so, clarity should be paramount. This means little to no distracting ornamentation, a legible font, and a strict focus on relevant information. For example, a map used chiefly for military purposes would naturally highlight different information than a trade map. For my novel, we ultimately decided on a “show-off map” drawn for the Blue Island Coalition, a powerful political entity in the archipelago (depending on your world’s technology level, maps were actually scarce and valuable). Also, think about which technique your in-universe cartographer used to draw your in-universe map. Has copperplate engraving already been invented in your fictional universe? If not, your map shouldn’t use that aesthetic.

9) Maps: Less Is More. If a spot or an area on a map contains no relevant information, it can (and should) stay blank so that the reader’s attention naturally shifts to the critical information. Think of it this way: if your nav system tells you to follow a highway for 500 miles, that’s the information you’ll get, and not “in 100 meters, you’ll drive past a little petrol station on the left, and, oh, did I tell you about that accident that took place here ten years ago?” Traditional maps follow the same principle: if there’s a road leading a two day’s march through a desolate desert, a black line over a blank white ground is entirely sufficient to convey that information.

10) Settlement and Landmark Names: This point will be a bit of a tangent, but it’s still relevant. I worked with a linguist to create a fully functional language for my novel, and one of the things he criticized about my early drafts were the names of my cities. It’s embarrassing when I think about it now, but I really didn’t pay that much attention to how I named my cities; I wanted it to sound good, and that was it. Again: if realism is your goal, that’s a big mistake. Like Point 5, we went back to the drawing board and dove into the archipelago’s history and established naming conventions. In my novel, for example, the islands were inhabited by indigenes called the Makehu before the colonization four hundred years before the events of the story; as it’s usually the case, all settlements and islands had purely descriptive names back then. For example, the main island was called Uni e Li, which translates as “Mighty Hill,” a reference to the vast mountain ranges in the south and north; townships followed the same example (e.g., Tamakaha meaning “Coarse Sands”). When the colonizers arrived, they adopted the Makehu names and adapted them into their own language, changing the accented, long vowels to double vowels: Uni e Li became “Uunili,” Lehō e Āhe became “Lehowai.” Makehu townships kept their names; colonial cities got “English” monikers named after their geographical location, economic significance, or some other original story. Examples of this are Southport, a—you guessed it—port on the southernmost tip of Uunili, or Cale’s Hope, a settlement named after a businessman’s mining venture. It’s all details, and chances are that most readers won’t even pay attention, but I personally found that this added a lot of plausibility and immersion.

I could cover a lot more, but this post is already way too long, so I’ll leave it at that—if there’s enough interest, I’d be happy to make a part two. If not, well, maybe at least a couple of you got something useful out of this. If you’re looking for inspiration/references to show to your illustrator/cartographer, the David Rumsey archive is a treasure trove. Finally, for anyone who doesn’t know and might be interested, my novel is called Dreams of the Dying, and is a blends fantasy, mystery, and psychological horror set in the universe of Enderal, an indie RPG for which I wrote the story. It’s set in a Polynesian-inspired medieval world and has been described as Inception in a fantasy setting by reviewers.

(INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT UNDER THE CUT!)

Q1: Tell us a little bit about your project(s)!

Sentinel is an exploration into the idea of reincarnation & past lives – persistent consciousness is a big point of interest for me, and the idea of exploring past identities and decisions, and how those affect apparently unrelated events is something I love seeing explored in other fiction.

Project Hadea is more of an exploration of ability and self-worth – what happens when the foundation you’ve built your life on is lost? If this all makes me sound pretentious, it’s probably because I am. To be honest, as a relatively new project, I’m still waiting for the themes of Hadea to come through, but I’m looking forward to them presenting themselves to me.

Beyond that, both projects are excuses for me to mess with worldbuilding and character interactions, as well as dipping into different styles and genres.

Q2: Why interactive fiction? What drew you to the medium?

Like a lot of other IF authors, I’m a huge fan of interactive storytelling – things like D&D, Pathfinder, etc – and as a character-driven writer, I really enjoy the challenge that comes with what is, essentially, telling multiple stories in one, where a single character can drastically alter the direction of the plot. That, in combination with the inclusivity within these types of media – where the customizability of characters inherently lends itself to the creation of non-standard protagonists – really caught my attention.

Q3: Are your characters influenced by your identity? How?

My characters are almost entirely bisexual, and the ones that aren’t are some flavour of LGBT+. I don’t know how much more I can say, honestly: I’m so far gone at this point I tend to forget it’s possible to create heterosexual characters. I think in more general terms, a lot of my characters tend to take very... pragmatic? Approaches to gender and sexuality, as influenced by my own experience: I’ve always known I’m not straight, and while it’s an inherent part of my identity, I don’t think about it much.

Q4: What would you like to see more of in LGBT+ fiction?

Honestly, any and everything. More wlw, more nblw/m, more interracial non-cishet relationships, more open acknowledgement of character’s sexuality. In particular, I’d like to see more bisexual characters who are openly bisexual, without using cutsey little phrases to dance around the word. Bisexual characters in both different- and same-gender relationships, where their bisexuality is still knowledged and accepted.

Also, more non-binary characters, characters exploring and changing their identities throughout the course of the story and it not being a big deal.

Q5: What or who are some of your biggest inspirations?

I went a long time writing nothing at all – as a kid I wrote almost constantly, then for a good ten years, I wrote nothing at all. It wasn’t until I was getting into D&D (as well as a couple of live-play shows like TAZ and CR) that I started writing again, and thinking about characters and stories as something I could really control, so I think Wizards of the Coast can be directly blamed for all the writing I wave at people almost constantly now.

I can’t talk about my influences without mentioning Lord of the Rings – I was, and still am, very much one of Those people – and especially as a child I was always very into high fantasy. I’ve branched out from that now, but it definitely remains a strong influence in my work, which is always distanced in many ways from the ‘real world’; I’m also still a sucker for some good historical worldbuilding.

I try to read a lot, and in a lot of genres; I read a lot of horror, a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, and I’m very impressionable in terms of style and my approach to writing. Another childhood obsession was (and again, still dormant, occasionally awoken) Terry Pratchett & the Discworld books. A lot of my sense of humour, and honestly I think a lot of my worldview aligns with his writing, whether that’s because I read too much as a child and internalised it, or I just happened to grow up as a person who loves his writing – I think I owe a lot of my thoughts and feelings on writing to him. In particular, the importance of humour and of personal stakes in stories.

Q6: What’s a super vague spoiler for your current project?

Be careful what you wish for.

Q7: Lastly, what advice would you give to your readers?

Nothing stays the same: life won’t go the way you expect, but that’s not a bad thing. Go for the moments when you see them – whether its job or education applications, starting new projects, learning new skills – just go for it. You can get away with more than you’d think, especially if you do it with confidence.

(Part 1) Triple W Mafia George x Fem! Y/N series

Warnings: Swearing! that’s it really (unless I've missed something then please let me know)

Summary: George Weasley is a renowned Mafia boss who took over from his Father Arthur once he retired, to carry on the Triple W mafia legacy. The only mafia known to be able to keep the Death Eaters (their rival mafia) at bay. However there is one item that they stole from the Triple W’s which George is determined to get back...his mothers necklace, the family heirloom. Y/N Greyback has been forced to comply with the Death Eaters wishes as her family are high up members. What happens when George and Y/N meet? And what happens when they fall in love?

The lights were dim in the what looked like to be an old bar room, the red hue coming from the red lamp shades hitting the walls. Smoke from cigars fogging up the top half of the room barely keeping the floor below visible. At each table there were groups of men, all sitting in perfectly tailored suits, sipping on their glasses of whiskey, laughing and having a good time. At the back of the room however, sat one man, alone. His elbow propped up on the arm of his chair, his finger brushing over his top lip as if he were deep in thought. His other hand held the same glass as every other man in the bar, lazily not caring if it were to fall and smash everywhere.

The man, George Weasley, a tall ginger man who’s eyes were the dark but kind shade of brown. Although seemingly intimidating, George had a kind heart, if he seen someone being attacked or robbed in the street, everyone would end up feeling bad for the attacker by the time George was finished with him. He had no time for the scum who go out of their way to make someone else’s life a living hell in order for them to feel a small, temporary taste for a God complex.

George had only recently taken over the title of the Triple W Mafia Boss, when his father Arthur had decided it was his time to retire and pass over the family ‘business’ to one of his sons. George was one of 6 sons and one daughter within the Weasley family. His identical twin brother Fred was technically supposed to become the next Mafia boss, as he was the older twin. But, he had decided that his brother George was more fit to the job than he was. So, George gratefully took over the role and appointed Fred and his younger brother Ron, to be his sort of ‘Body Guards’ although, of course George was far from needing any form of help when it came to beating or killing a criminal, it was still always good to have a little back up sometimes.

“Hey Georgie, what’s the plan then? What we gonna do about these damn Death Eaters?”

George sat, not moving, deep in thought. ‘What was he going to do about those Death Eaters?’ He has no where to start, the bastards are constantly on the run. He was determined to find their whereabouts however, as they had stolen something very precious to him, his mother’s necklace. The Weasley family heirloom.

In a room that was very clearly abandoned and covered in moss and mould, sat groups of men and some women in black cloaks with peculiar pointed hoods. These people, in contrast to that of which the Triple W members, appeared extremely intimidating. The members of Triple W were intimidating, but these were the sort of people no one would want to encounter in the streets, day or night. There was no smoke from cigars in this small dingy room, there was however and eye watering stench, that was so strong some of the Death Eaters swore they seen a slight foggy green haze floating around the room.

All cloaked members were sitting in a circle all surrounding their leader Tom Riddle, or as he likes to call himself ‘Voldemort’. A tall man (not as tall as George) with black, short curly hair. He wasn’t wearing a cloak like his ‘followers’ but was wearing something that looked more like a bath robe, it was all black of course to fit in with the rest. All were listening in carefully to what he was saying, all apart form Y/N Greyback, daughter of Fenrir Greyback, a man who is considered very high up in the Death Eater mafia. She was sat in the corner, wearing a contrasting blood red dress that hugged all of her curves perfectly. Her Y/H/C hair was curled at the ends in neat ringlets, and she had some makeup on but not too much so she looked ‘dolled up’.

“We all know that the Triple W are cowering out in some fancy old bar, trouble is we don’t know where, I’ve had a few out scouting round the area, unfortunately they have all been caught” Riddle speaks out gesturing and engaging with his followers.

“What do you suggest we do then sir?” Said Fenrir who was sitting right next to where Riddle was parading around the room.

“I say we send out our most valuable member, of course, real them in, make them vulnerable” he smirked

“You don’t mean…”

“Oh yes, but I do, your daughter shall make excellent bate my dear friend, for she wears what Weasley most desires” Riddle finishes

Y/N too busy sat in the corner reading an old book, didn’t even notice that every Death Eater members eyes were on her, all smiling to themselves.

This may actually work, if we send out Y/N who is wearing that incredibly expensive looking, diamond necklace, it may just lure the idiot ginger straight to us” Fenrir laughed.

So their plan was set, send Y/N as bait and hopefully George would follow.

- George still hadn’t moved from the position he was sat in, he hadn’t taken a single sip of his drink, his eyes focussed and barely ever blinking. He was seemingly ignoring every person who tried to get a word out of him for some sort of plan to take down their Rival mafia. Sure he had killed a lot of spies they had sent out, but he was getting absolutely no leads on where exactly they were coming from, Riddle was smarter than he thought. It seemed he had Death Eaters coming from all over the country in all different directions and disguises. George had to find some way in order to track down where exactly they were based.

The sounds of other members arguing, specifically Fred and Ron who were standing right next to where George was sat, started to sound like a horrible ringing noise, it was driving him insane, how could he concentrate when these buffoon’s were yelling nonsense at each other.

“WILL YOU ALL SHUT UP” He yelled now getting up from his seat and walking to the middle of the smoky room.

“I can’t fucking think when you’re all fighting and arguing with each other on what we’re going to do. I am very aware that those bastards are close to finding us, alright? They’ve gained more members in the past few months than I can count on my two hands. Problem is, they’re coming from all over the country, there is no set direction from where they’re all coming from, meaning that they aren’t coming from their base. This brings us to our next problem, what we’re going to do about it. The only thing I can suggest right now, which I believe may actually be our only two options, is either we leave and find a new base OR we send out multiple people all round the general area of here just outside the boarders of this town where the forests are. Each mile will have two of our members, armed and ready to capture and interrogate anyone that comes from outside the town. This includes anyone who seems innocent to the eye I.e. a mother and child as we all know by now there are families who have been a part of the Death Eaters for years, long enough for them to welcome their children. If you see a mother and child however, you of course don’t attack them straight away, you take them for questioning and more importantly, you look for that damn skull snake monstrosity that they all have tattooed on their left forearm.”

George stands looking between each of his guys trying to gauge what they were thinking by their faces.

“So what’s it to be? Hands up if you think we should move”

No one put their hands up and George smiled knowing that everyone in Triple W are too loyal to the town of Diagon to even consider leaving.

“Good choice boys, now” he rubs his hands together “who’s volunteering to be part of the watch team?”

- Y/N couldn’t believe her ears when she heard the plan to trick Triple W into following her back to the Death Eaters. She also had no idea that the beautiful silver diamond necklace that hung lazily round her neck was the stolen Weasley heirloom.

The actions of her family disgusted her, she knew that what they stood for and what they were doing was wrong, but putting her in harms way all over a stupid rivalry, AND tricking her into thinking that the necklace she had was a gift. She felt so stupid for believing them, Y/N had no options but to accept that she was going to have to go along with their horrendous plan and bait George and other members of Triple W into following her back into her family and Riddle’s evil grasp.

“Perfect” Riddle smiled grimly when Y/N accepted

“But of course, we can’t just lure them in, in one mere night, no, you have to spread this out over the course of a few days. Have him become intrigued by you, follow you a little while. You’ll be staying in a place called the Leaky Cauldron, don’t let him see you in there, it’ll blow your cover. Make sure he only sees you walking through the streets. Got it?”

Y/N tentatively nodded her head

“Good, and then, when the time is right, you’ll lead him straight here. We’ll be in communication with you, don’t let me down”

Y/N shakily made her way to Diagon, bags packed and the necklace still hanging round her neck. She had since changed into a black, silk dress, helping the bright silver of the necklace stand out against the dark colour of her clothes, further, of course to draw George Weasley’s attention.

Once she had settled into her room at the Leaky Cauldron, she was given specific instruction to make sure she wondered round the street at night, as that is most likely when Triple W members will come out from wherever they were hiding.

Y/N took a step out into the cold crisp night air, her heels click clacking off the stone pavements. She couldn’t help but take in the beauty of the town, cobblestone roads winding all through it, the windows on each building slightly askew but somehow didn’t seem out of place. It was as if she were walking through an old victorian town.

Snapping her thoughts back to the task at hand, she pulled her black shawl over her shoulders more and continued to wander aimlessly round, trying to find some form of clue as to were Triple W were hiding.

- George was more than satisfied with the outcome of the meeting they had today. He had 40 people on a list to keep watch each mile surrounding Diagon, meaning that all 20 miles would be covered. They all had their instructions ingrained into their heads and were ready to get to work the next day. Fred and Ron as usual would stay within Diagon with George, communicating to those who were out surrounding the area getting updates and passing round information. George had also decided to send a few extra spies out, including his younger sister Ginny to be on the look out for any Death Eater members who may still be lurking round the town.

George, Fred and Ron made their way out of the old bar room, and onto the streets. George made sure that they each had means of contacting each other. Fred whom George would normally live with, agreed that they each should have their own flats or place to stay in order to cover more of Diagon, and therefore be more accessible to those out in the forest. With their last goodbyes and a few phone calls to book places to stay, the three brothers separated all going in opposite directions.

George headed down the street, his hands becoming slightly red from the cold, and he could see his breath in the air. The dim orange streetlights barely lighting up the path as he walked past the old crooked houses and shops.

Just a George turned the corner he bumped into someone, a woman, dressed in a black dress and shawl.

“Oh I’m so sorry miss, I wasn’t looking where I was going properly, these damn street lights barely light up 2 feet in front of you. Are you alright” George asked looking into her eyes with worry

“I’m perfectly fine, sir, thank you” she smiled back and walked away

But George followed her with his eyes, more specifically he followed her neck, because what was hanging from it made him do a double take. He knew those diamonds from anywhere, they way they glistened brightly in every light. Was that, his mother’s stolen necklace?
