I'm putting in a FOIA request for more info on the Sam and the gambling witch headcanon

*checks my mental card-catalogue* Hmmm... not a WHOLE lot on that one, but what I have is tasty.

*LOL* Honestly, it's very simple. At some point in my Tumblr Journies I came across someone (I don't even remember who at this point, and I've seen it suggested more than once anyway) who pointed out that there was some interesting chemistry between Sam and that poker-playing witch from 5X7 "The Curious Case of Dean Winchester" and what if they met up again later, after everyone was safe and okay, and decided to get it on? And after pondering it for a bit I thought "Okay, yeah, that'd be hot."

I know in canon there would have been a lot of factors that pretty much implied the opposite. (Like, if they ever met again, they'd be more likely to try to kill each other than fuck.) But in fanworks we can do what we want. *LOL* So yeah, maybe after everything that happened, (and after Sam's visit to a clinic to get his "booster shot" from having been given the Clap) he wound up at some bar, and the witch was there too, drinking his sorrows after losing his longtime companion. Maybe something sparked between them? Maybe there was a bit of hate-sex involved with it? Maybe it was just a case of "I know who you are, and you know who I am, and I don't have to pretend I'm someone else." However it went down... well, you get the picture.

I do think that Sam actually earned Patrick's respect, and Patrick was a man of his word and honored his deals, so I think Sam would have had a certain measure of respect for him as well.

The Curious Case of Dean Winchester

this feels like an awfully good episode title to give away so early in the series. on the other hand, it is season five, about when most shows start wrapping up.

this episode was wonderful. i love bobby, and i'm happy to see some focus on him and his struggles. he and the boys either haven't discussed or haven't figured out that the reason he can't walk is that dean refused to let michael into his head. bobby's anger and frustration is well-placed and reasonable. i feel bad for him. but i think he still has so much good life ahead of him and i'm glad for the way the whole episode worked out.

the witches were also very intriguing and i'm so glad the woman got to be free. eternal life is not better than death.

1 Witch antagonist! ok but I feel like Patrick is such a good case study in a complex but fun villain that is sympathetic, but still clearly the villain! Like it’s very clear he has a moral code(He’ll play some people, he won’t others, he wants an Actual Game, but for what? isn’t it implied he’s in control at all times?) but we’re never actually told what it is, or how it works. Like he’s good at reading people(makes sense he’d pick poker), he clearly wants connection(he wanted the lady witch with him? he doesn’t want to be alone? He clearly knows about the people he’s playing(mentioned the bar mitzvah)(Although was that for Sam’s benefit? did he know that before)) Like we don’t know SHIT about his tragic backstory, but he’s interesting and compelling enough that it literally doesn’t fucking matter. This episode is great, it gives me brainworms, I wanna watch it again

2 lady witch! Ok but…the entire plot was driven by her! She wanted the magic gone due to her own selfish reasons, but it was also like…painted as the objectively right thing to do! all she wanted was not to be immortal anymore, but she didn’t wan to take a central role? The locket makes you think that she’s got some kind of control she’s under(especially coupled with a semi ironic “I look good for my age”), but no, it’s he daughter she had to bury, which would probably fuck up any parent. Like would it be nice to have a name? yes! but she was still cool!!

3 DEAN!! MOTHERFUCKER ACTUALLY COMMUNICATED! Like he clearly understood Bobby’s shit even before, he sat down and he actually tried to feeling! He clearly was super uncomfy with it, but he knew someone had to say it and since no one else was going to, he ended up being the emotionally mature one and! it was great to see!! Was he terrible? YES! it was a godawful apology but Bobby saw what he was trying to say and that seemed to matter to him. plus his lil heel click was absolutely adorable, he was very happy to be younger again. Actually, speaking of, him being old was so fucking funny

He threw his own powers in the ring, and since he’s the antichrist, they worked. It was a subtle use of power, and that’s the head canon I’m going with ok(they clearly set up that he’s emotional, and while him not being read I think is meant to be as like…he ends up being Really Good at Poker cuz he’s a Man, I think it’s more he scrambled Patrick a little bit, due to the powers I swear it would be so good)

like the whole thing about him just being Innately the Hero was annoying, but this lil subtle thing? good! good! I like that!

The Curious Case of Bobby Singer

So, apparently I was mistaken in one of my earlier posts; specifically, Lucifer May Be Rising, But So Is My Temper.  When I introduced that, I said “I love Bobby Singer with all of my heart,” and that’s not completely false… but also, I was thinking about season 5 episode 7 “The Curious Case of Dean Winchester” and I realized that I have serious qualms with how both Bobby and Sam acted in that episode.

I mean, I get that it’s supposed to be funny, but the humor used kinda turns my stomach a touch.  Don’t get me wrong: the concept?  Brilliant.  The acting?  Great.  The villain?  Lovely.  

But.  The humor.

I mean, for one thing, every single time Bobby teases Dean for his age is bloody asinine.  He seems to forget that the only reason they were in that mess in the first place was that he decided to play the who-knows-how-old witch and lost, to the point that he might well have been about to die, and that Dean sacrificed half of the years he ended up losing to bring Bobby back to normal.

And also, for all that Bobby was struggling with his sudden need to adjust to being in a wheelchair, Dean was suddenly having to adjust to being old.  It’s not like it happened gradually; he literally aged 50 years in the span of a few minutes, and no one had any patience for that whatsoever.  Instead, it was all jokes about how funny it was when Dean tried to be his usual self (the burgers, the flirting, the safe-cracking) and it fell through.  The increasing number of medical conditions that are just sprung on him all at once?  He says, “a little sympathy wouldn’t hurt” and he’s not wrong.  I feel the need to point out that he’s 80 years old and digging a grave.  For reference, apparently, according to the SPN Wiki, Bobby lived from 1950 to 2012 which means he was 62 when he died.  18 years younger than Dean was in the episode where Bobby and Sam found it so funny to mock him.

Oh, and Sam’s impatience at Dean climbing the stairs?  Holy shit, can you get more dickish?  Once again, in terms of physical age, Dean was 80 years old.  Climbing up 37 flights of stairs to the witch’s apartment would be hard for a great deal of people a lot younger than 80.  I’ve known 70-year-olds who can’t walk around their one-story house without struggling.  It’s a fact of getting old that things get harder, and Sam giving Dean a bitchface about him being a touch slower due to the whole magical aging thing is just uncalled for and selfish, especially since it’s not like Sam was dealing with anything of the sort and he couldn’t possibly know what it was like.  (And, since we see Sam get old in a less-than-graceful way — his wig-I mean, hair alone was horrendous — he really has no room to mock Dean.)

Also, no one seems to address the fact that the magic is basically putting Dean at his actual age?  I mean, it’s easy for them to forget because they were on Earth the whole time, but Dean spent forty years in Hell.  That means that he’s, what, 70?  In terms of how many years he’s lived through?  Sam’s response of “You’re thirty, Dean!” to “Sammy, when you get to be our age-” is played off as a joke, but, once again, it’s a jerk joke to make; he’s very much not thirty.  He’s been through more shit than Sam has (at least at that point), and Sam acting like he knows everything and has any right whatsoever to lecture Dean is ridiculous.

Anyway, maybe I’m just being oversensitive or something — I’ll be the first to admit that I never find jokes about someone losing their identity, losing the things that make them them, to be funny or, really, anything but hurtful and objectionable — but the humor woven into this entire episode was just… ugh.  No.

I don’t know if anyone agrees, but this is one of those episodes that I’m very rarely (if ever) going to rewatch because of how in-poor-taste I find it.

A List of All of Dean Winchester’s Injuries

Yes. I did. I did go through every single episode of Supernatural and recorded every time Dean got injured. Do not question me, I know what I did, I had no one tell me ‘no’ so I did it, and now I’m done. 

Now, this list might not be the most accurate. I did not sit down and watch every single episode in full, eyes glued to the screen for every time Dean got injured. I only skimmed. Here’s a gif I made to show how I did it: 

(sorry it’s bad quality it’s the first gif I’ve ever made) I skimmed through the episode and used the little preview screen to look for any time there was fast movement, blood or a spell that might require someone cutting their palm. I also kept an eye out for angel-banishing sigils. Since I only skimmed, there’s a chance I missed some injuries or even times that Dean was magically healed. So again, might not be an accurate list but I did my best. Feel free to tell me anything I missed. 

Here’s a key to help you through the list: - most of this lists the actual injury, e.g. “cut on left temple” but other times it’ll list an action that may cause injruy, e.g. “thrown into wall”  - “thrown into/against” means that he impacted the object, but the object did not break / he did not go through it - “thrown through” means that the object broke on impact and he ended up on the other side - “internal pain” means that someone used magic to do something to him, but I have no idea what, all I know is that he looked in pain and was mostly gripping his stomach - “handcuffed” means actual handcuffs were used, “tied around wrists” means either rope or zip-ties were used - “punched” means just punched in the face, any other area on the body will be specified - any episodes that aren’t on the list means he wasn’t injured in them

Some misc notes: - I do not include any injuries that don’t actually happen, e.g. future visions, nightmares, hallucinations or a fake reality - I might be inconsistent with the amount of times I specify what was used to knock Dean out, and not listing what was used. Sorry about that. It’s because I either just couldn’t see the object, or I was lazy that day - I don’t usually specify the size of the injury either, I usually just say “cut”, sorry. I only realised like 6 seasons in that I probably should be specifying the size, and also taking screenshots, but I couldn’t be bothered going back and fixing it, nor could I be bothered specifying the size from then on. I’m sorry, it was just going to feel weird if 6 seasons in I only then start specifying - I don’t include possessions, but I do specify when injuries happen while possessed - I include some commentary of what kind of injuries I thought should’ve happened based on the action - There will also be a list for Sam’s injuries posted later, but there will not be one for Cas. Going into this, I only wanted to know Dean and Sam’s injuries for some redesigns I want to do, I didn’t feel it was necessary for me to know Cas’ because he won’t have scars in my redesign (at least his vessel won’t). Please don’t expect me to go back and make a list for Cas, this already took up so much of my time and I don’t want to do it again.
