what do u think donna does in Seattle
hehe I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED. Bc while I absolutely don't know, I see it so clearly?? Buckle up here we go!!!!!
First of all, her and Harvey live on Queen Anne. I don't give a fuck where Mike's firm is, they literally belong in the Queen Anne neighborhood.
Now, as for what Donna does - I'm assuming you mean for employment. LMAO. While it would be super cool for her to continue as a COO, and that's what I manifest for her, I do think it would be cool to see her tap into her COO skills and mix them with theater. I'm thinking Managing Director of the Seattle Rep (aka the Seattle Repertory Theatre) or the 5th Avenue Theatre. If she did continue with law firms or whatever, then I think she'd at least be on a board of directors or a committee chair for these theatre organizations!! I just really like the idea of her trying to be more integrated into the arts in Seattle, even maybe her and Harvey getting passes to the Seattle International Film Festival when it rolls around in the spring.
She goes to a yoga class in her neighborhood but on weekends, her and Harvey drive to Green Lake to go on runs together. They find nice restaurants in Belltown and try new bars in Pioneer Square, and their new anniversary spot is The Pink Door. Donna goes to Pike Place Market to get new flowers for their home whenever their current ones die, bc she always is trying to bring new life into their home (like she tried to do with bringing Harvey a cactus lmao). Her and Rachel go to drag brunches in Capitol Hill when they need girl time. She also likes to plan little weekend getaways with Harvey that require ferry trips to the islands right off the mainland!!
She also finds out about the neighborhood art walks and drags Harvey with her to go to them until they narrow down the main ones they regularly visit. He acts like he doesn't like it but it's a way he still feels connected to his mom by supporting local artists!!
Even though Seattle isn't as much as "the city that never sleeps" like New York is, I think that she starts to appreciate being able to live life at a calmer pace with the core four. She loves the view of the Puget Sound she gets in the morning and all of the greenery in her neighborhood. I also think she bitches to Harvey CONSTANTLY about how many tech workers there are in the city that won't look up from their phones and it drives her crazy, also she bitches about the lack of as many luxury stores as there were in Manhattan. Additionally, she ends up driving herself and Harvey places more often than he drives them because he repeatedly and accidentally almost hits cyclists on the street and Donna at least tries to be a little more considerate of the others on the road.
THANK YOU FOR THIS ASK💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

EVENT 01: HARVESTFEST
The seasons are changing once again in Blackrock. Trees lose their leaves in buckets. The ground grows frozen underfoot. More than once snow has dusted roofs, and already blankets the flanking mountains. Winter is approaching, but it has not yet sunk its teeth fully in. This is good fortune for the humble Blackrock resident, who has been anticipating what’s to come since October.
Harvestfest is many things to many people, but at its core it is this: a celebration. Autumn bleeds dry into winter, and Harvestfest is its last hurrah. A farewell, a thank you, a welcome ushering in to the holiday season. A place to recognize, foremost, local talent and community businesses for their hard-work and contribution to the town, Harvestfest is part carnival, part festival, part local fair, and it’s coming this weekend!
With months tucked away in planning, Harvestfest runs one Thursday to Sunday, typically the first or second in November. Pioneer Square becomes host to games and stalls. Participating stores may sell specialty food or goods (the Nook-Rossetti family highly recommend’s Ugly Mug’s Maple Syrup Supreme!). It is never too early to get your Christmas shopping done, or pick up your Thanksgiving turkey! As per tradition, a list of stalls and special goods available around town will be announced closer to the festival’s start.
For the younger Blackrock resident, games and prizes are abound! Local farms and families have generously donated land to host the autumn season’s final hayride and corn maze. Rides and games will be set up on land generously lended by the Whitegrass family, with hours of operation to come soon. For the first time this year, Blackrock plays host to a miniature Art & Film Festival on Saturday and Sunday. See Twilight Cinema’s site for details. And, of course, the traditional silent auction will be hosted Sunday evening.
Blackrock Council would like to be the first to reassure their residents that safety is their utmost priority. They are aware there has been some controversy recently surrounding Harvestfest’s closing ‘Welcoming of the Wolves’ ceremony. While the Council respectfully acknowledges those who have vocally opposed it, they have chosen to move forward with the event. The Council thanks you for your understanding and hopes to see you there!
A reminder that fireworks are still prohibited outside official Harvestfest events and ceremonies.
TIMESTAMP: November 14th – 17th, 2019

Once the event begins, please pause all non-event related threads and tag event starters with #shiverevent. While not required, I encourage you to also use a Harvestfest tag on your blog!
VOLUNTEERS WANTED! While there are many stalls put up in Pioneer Square for neighboring artists, farms, and tradesman, Blackrock always wants to put emphasis on homegrown talent. If you would like your character to be a volunteer at Harvestfest or even run a stall, game, or ride themselves, please let me know !! You also won’t be limited to only putting your character in that role, but if you like for at least some of the event, the option’s there! I’m happy to help brainstorm stall ideas. Alternatively, if there’s something cool you’d love to see included that your character isn’t a part of, let me know anyway ! I’d love to put it in.

Tracy Chapman
Tumblr media
Tracy Chapman (born March 30, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter, known for her hits "Fast Car" and "Give Me One Reason", along with other singles "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", "Baby Can I Hold You", "Crossroads", "New Beginning", and "Telling Stories". She is a multi-platinum and four-time Grammy Award–winning artist.
Chapman was signed to Elektra Records by Bob Krasnow in 1987. The following year she released her critically acclaimed debut album Tracy Chapman, which became a multi-platinum worldwide hit. The album earned Chapman six Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year, three of which she won, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her single "Fast Car", and Best New Artist. Chapman released her second album Crossroads the following year, which garnered her an additional Grammy nomination. Since then, Chapman has experienced further success with six more studio albums, which include her multi-platinum fourth album New Beginning, for which she won a fourth Grammy Award, for Best Rock Song, for its lead single "Give Me One Reason". Chapman's most recent album is Our Bright Future, released in 2008.
Early life
Chapman was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Her parents divorced when she was four years of age. She was raised by her mother, who bought her music-loving three-year-old daughter a ukulele despite having little money. Chapman began playing the guitar and writing songs at age eight. She says that she may have been first inspired to play the guitar by the television show Hee Haw. Chapman's family received welfare. In her native Cleveland, school desegregation efforts led to racial unrest and even riots; Chapman has stated that she experienced frequent bullying and racially motivated assaults as a child.
Raised as a Baptist, Chapman attended an Episcopal high school and was accepted into the program A Better Chance, which sponsors students at college preparatory high schools away from their home community. She graduated from Wooster School in Connecticut, then attended Tufts University, graduating with a B.A. degree in Anthropology and African studies.
Career
Chapman made her major-stage debut as an opening act for women's music pioneer Linda Tillery at Boston's Strand Theater on May 3, 1985. Another Tufts student, Brian Koppelman, heard Chapman playing and brought her to the attention of his father, Charles Koppelman. Koppelman, who ran SBK Publishing, signed Chapman in 1986. After Chapman graduated from Tufts in 1987, he helped her to sign a contract with Elektra Records.
At Elektra, she released Tracy Chapman (1988). The album was critically acclaimed, and she began touring and building a fanbase. "Fast Car" began its rise on the U.S. charts soon after she performed it at the televised Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute concert in June 1988; it became a number 6 pop hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending August 27, 1988. Rolling Stone ranked the song number 167 on their 2010 list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". It is the highest-ranking song on the Rolling Stone list that was both written and performed by a female performer. "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", the follow-up to Fast Car, charted at number 75 and was followed by "Baby Can I Hold You", which peaked at number 48. The album sold well, going multi-platinum and winning three Grammy Awards, including an honor for Chapman as Best New Artist. Later in 1988, Chapman was a featured performer on the worldwide Amnesty International Human Rights Now! Tour.
Chapman's follow-up album, Crossroads (1989), was less commercially successful than her debut had been, but it still achieved platinum status. By 1992's Matters of the Heart, Chapman was playing to a small but devoted audience. Her fourth album, New Beginning (1995), proved successful, selling over three million copies in the U.S. The album included the hit single "Give Me One Reason", which won the 1997 Grammy for Best Rock Song and became Chapman's most successful single to date, peaking at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following a four-year hiatus, her fifth album, Telling Stories, was released in 2000. Its hit single, "Telling Stories", received heavy airplay on European radio stations and on Adult Alternative and Hot AC stations in the United States. Chapman toured Europe and the United States in 2003 in support of her sixth album, Let It Rain (2002).
To support her seventh studio album, Where You Live (2005), Chapman toured major U.S. cities in October and toured Europe over the remainder of the year. The "Where You Live" tour was extended into 2006; the 28-date European tour featured summer concerts in Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the UK, Russia and more. On June 5, 2006, she performed at the 5th Gala of Jazz in Lincoln Center, New York, and in a session at the 2007 TED (Technology Entertainment Design) conference in Monterey, California.
Chapman was commissioned by the American Conservatory Theater to compose music for its production of Athol Fugard's Blood Knot, a play on apartheid in South Africa, staged in early 2008.
Atlantic Records released Chapman's eighth studio album, Our Bright Future (2008). Chapman made a 26-date solo tour of Europe. She returned to tour Europe and selected North American cities during the summer of 2009. She was backed by Joe Gore on guitars, Patrick Warren on keyboards, and Dawn Richardson on percussion.
Chapman was appointed a member of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival U.S. Documentary jury.
Chapman performed Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" on one of the final episodes of the Late Show with David Letterman in April 2015. The performance became a viral hit and was the focus of various news articles including some by Billboard and The Huffington Post.
On November 20, 2015, Chapman released Greatest Hits, consisting of 18 tracks including the live version of "Stand by Me", the album is Chapman's first global compilation release.
In October 2018, Chapman sued the rapper Nicki Minaj over copyright infringement, alleging that Minaj had sampled her song "Baby Can I Hold You" without permission. Chapman's lawsuit requested an injunction to prevent Minaj releasing the song "Sorry" and stated that she had "repeatedly denied" permission for "Baby Can I Hold You" to be sampled. Chapman had previously expressed her reservations about being sampled.
Social activism
Chapman is a politically and socially active musician. In a 2009 interview with American radio network NPR, she said, "I'm approached by lots of organizations and lots of people who want me to support their various charitable efforts in some way. And I look at those requests and I basically try to do what I can. And I have certain interests of my own, generally an interest in human rights." She has performed at numerous socially aware events, and continues to do so. In 1988, she performed in London as part of a worldwide concert tour to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with Amnesty International. The same year Chapman also performed in the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute, an event which raised money for South Africa's Anti-Apartheid Movement and seven children's charities. In 2004, Chapman performed (and rode) in the AIDS/LifeCycle event.
Chapman has also been involved with Cleveland's elementary schools. A music video produced by Chapman that highlights significant achievements in African-American history has become an important teaching tool in Cleveland Public Schools. Chapman also agreed to sponsor a "Crossroads in Black History" essay contest for high school students in Cleveland and other cities.
Chapman received an honorary doctorate from Saint Xavier University in Chicago in 1997. In 2004, Chapman was given an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts by her alma mater, Tufts University, recognizing her commitment to social activism.
I'm fortunate that I've been able to do my work and be involved in certain organizations, certain endeavors, and offered some assistance in some way. Whether that is about raising money or helping to raise awareness, just being another body to show some force and conviction for a particular idea. Finding out where the need is – and if someone thinks you're going to be helpful, then helping.
Chapman often performs at and attends charity events such as Make Poverty History, amfAR, and AIDS/LifeCycle, to support social causes. She identifies as a feminist.
Personal life
Although Chapman has never publicly disclosed her sexual orientation, writer Alice Walker has stated that she and Chapman were in a romantic relationship during the mid-1990s. Chapman maintains a strong separation between her personal and professional life. "I have a public life that's my work life and I have my personal life," she said. "In some ways, the decision to keep the two things separate relates to the work I do."

Ankur Tewari on music festivals in India, spoken word poetry, Gully Boy and more in this exclusive interview - art and culture
Tumblr media
The city of lakes and a popular tourist and wedding destination, Udaipur, Rajasthan is alive with culture and the sound of music of various genres. Lake Pichola, City Palace, Fateh Sagar Lake, Jagmandir Palace are some of the must-visit locations while you’re in this city. The Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival (UWMF) has begun today and will be on until Sunday, February 9 2020. A city-wide, multi-venue music festival featuring 150 global artists and collaborations, the fest also sees participation from countries namely Spain, Italy, France, Brazil, Switzerland, and many more.In its 5th edition this year, this festival has fast become the biggest world music festival in the country. This year’s edition is built around the concept We are the World: Unity in Diversity. Spread over three picturesque venues, UWMF offers immense diversity in music that celebrates different moods of the day, right from a morning meditative raga to personifying romantic music at its best played beside the lakes in the afternoons. Evenings will bring spirited youthful music that connects people of all age groups. The festival also features local Rajasthani talent.Ahead of their performance tomorrow at UWMF 2020, we got a chance to speak with Ankur Tewari and The Ghalat Family. Excerpts from an exclusive interview:Q. Tell us about the inspiration behind called The Ghalat Family and why?A. The inspiration behind the band being called The Ghalat Family is actually nothing serious, we didn’t have a name for a band. We were shooting for a music video and a friend of ours saw us and he said that we are a bunch of misfits and somehow the word The Ghalat Family came out between fits of giggles and laughter and we just stuck by the name.Q. Your opened for singer Norah Jones back in 2013. What’s been your fondest memory of that day?A. It was quite a special opening for Norah Jones back in 2013. It was a summer-time festival where we were going to play and I have always been a fan of her music and I have never seen her live so just to share the backstage along with her is a big honour. Karsh who was also opening for alongside us is a friend of hers (Norah’s) and because of him we met her, chatted with her. It was quite a humbling experience to see somebody so famous and big, being so humble, and her band was also too nice and too sweet.Q. How far have famous authors from history impacted your songwriting? Tell us some of your favourite proverbs/lines written by Manto and Bukowski.A. An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way and an artist says a hard thing in a simple way this quote by Charles Bukowski has always struck a chord with me. There are so many interesting authors and poets whose words resonate with me, Manto’s Toba Tek Singh is a classic for me where people in an art house are asked to decide whether they want to go to Pakistan or stay in India during partition… can’t describe the partition in a better way.Q. What’s more fun: performing for a live audience or in a studio?A. I have always been a performing artiste. I love performing to a live audience. I have not been in the studio as much as I want to be in the studio. I find performing live is a better community experience but in recent times, I started enjoying recording in the studio as well. But definitely, when I perform I like to play more for an intermediate audience than big stages. Big stages make me feel very distant from the audience and with my band members at the same time.Q. Favourite film song project you have been a part of?A. Favourite film song project that I have been a part of is my first song Sabse Peechhe Hum Khade for Let’s Enjoy (2004). That was the song I used to sing and then I used it in the movie and then I got Silk Route to sing a cover of it.Q. What can the audience expect at the Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival 2020? Tell us something about the songs you have chosen in your set and what’s in it for everyone attending?A. Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival is very special for me especially it is organised by SEHER. It is like a family for me and I have curated an interesting set of my popular songs including Mohabbat Zindabad, Sabse Peechhe Hum Khade, Dil Beparvah and some surprises.Q. Your thoughts on the music festival scene in India and if there’s one thing you could change, what would it be?A. It is amazing that there are music festivals that showcase artistes from around the country and the globe. When I started making music, there was none, but it’s so amazing to see so many festivals cropping up, so many stages, and I am encouraged to see this kind of an atmosphere in the world with independent music. If there’s one thing I could change, I would try to include more new artistes in the line-up every time because, for me, music festivals are about the discovery of new music as well. Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival is one such festival which brings new artistes from across the globe in its editions and I simply admire this concept.Q. Tell us more about Woh Hum Nahin and the process of writing/composing it.A. Woh Hum Nahin came to me in about 5 minutes. I was backstage going to perform in 10 minutes and I was looking at my phone and I saw the images of violence in the hostel of JNU and it really hurt me that such kind of violence is happening in universities, in colleges in India and it had a deep impact on me. Thought about of nation that has Mahatma Gandhi as a father of the nation, a pioneer in the world of peace and agent of love in this country. Such an act happening, it broke me within. Even before I could hit the stage in 5 minutes these words came to me and I went and performed my set. I came back and found the chords to these words, and recorded it in an hour’s time.Q. How did you decide on collaborating on Kommune with Roshan Abbas?A. If I may be honest it was Roshan Abbas who decided to contact me and Gaurav Kapoor and take our discussions further. We were usually discussing how we don’t find going out exciting where the only place you go out is to tune out of the world. But sometimes you go out to tune in to something and feel enriched when you come out of it and we were missing those events. So Roshan Abbas came up with an idea that we should gather those people who will be interested in storytelling, poetry or music of a softer sort. We pretty much started on instinct and before we knew it, it is known into a big thing.Q. What can you tell us about the upcoming seasons of The Spoken Fest? After the Delhi debut late last year, will Spoken be going to other cities too?A. We are constantly in touch with the spoken word artists and poets around the world and we are trying to make it interesting with each coming year. The Delhi edition was encouraging and on the response of the Delhi edition, we thought to take it to other cities as well. Many cities have written to us and we are strongly crunching the numbers to make sure that we can take it to other cities as well.Q. For upcoming poets, what is the one-word advice you would want to share?A. My only advice to upcoming poets is that you should be honest and clear with what you want to express and try not to push vocabulary outside what you use. If you are not satisfied with your vocabulary, read more books and increase your vocabulary, once you start using those words in your life you should include mini pauses as well.Q. Name three poets you’ve seen Live in performance and find great promise in their voice?A. Some of the poets I admire are Kausar Munir, Swanand Kirkire and Varun Grover. They’ve also had an amazing impact on me.Q. You’ve worked with Prateek Kuhad on several songs too - tell us about this collab. A. I’ve worked with Prateek on the collaboration called Dil Beparvah, for a show called The Dewarists and it happened organically. It was amazing that we both are diverse personalities and the song became the meeting point for both of us and started an interesting friendship where I get to learn a lot from this young artist.Q. Your favourite from the Gully Boy album and why?A. My favourite work from Gully Boy is definitely Apna Time Aayega for the way the song happened, the way poetry happened and the collaboration happened with Divine who is such an amazing artist. I’ve never imagined that I would be collaborating with a hip-hop artist. It was a dream collaboration to work with Dub Sharma, Divine with Javed Akhtar Sahab giving his suggestions and inputs.Q. Jeene Mein Aaye Mazaa is a sweet reminder of life in Bombay (Mumbai) one has lived and misses. What was your inspiration behind the number?A. Jeene Mein Aaye Mazaa is for me a story about friends, a story about people who stands by you even when the times are tough. When the tough times are over you look back and you realise how important they are because you know tough times don’t last but friends do. They make this world worthwhile and if we can ever look beyond the balance sheets of life then you will realise friends are what makes your world. Looking for a way to celebrate our feline friends in June? Here are some fun June 2019 cat events.
Saturday, June 1 to Sunday, June 2: Jackson Galaxy’s Cat Camp
Learn all about cats at Jackson Galaxy’s Cat Camp; Photography courtesy Cat Camp
Grab your cool-for-cats T-shirt and pretty kitty ears, and head to the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City for the annual Cat Camp. Hear leading experts – like Jackson Galaxy, Kitten Lady Hannah Shaw and Cat Man of West Oakland Adam Myatt – chat about orphaned kittens, cat behavior, fostering and community cats. Participate in counselor sessions, meet adoptable cats, visit the on-site Meow Parlour cat café and shop for feline-themed products. For a full list of speakers/schedule, go to catcampnyc.com.
Friday, June 7: The Secret Life of Pets 2
Check out this fun sequel, opening today!
In the sequel to the 2016 animated comedy movie The Secret Life of Pets, Terrier Max stresses over protecting toddler Liam (yes, his owner is now married, with a child) and develops a nervous tic. The rest of the gang is having issues, too. Pomeranian Gidget and kitty Chloe try to rescue Max’s favorite toy, hindered by Chloe’s little catnip problem. And bunny Snowball tries to live out his superhero fantasy when Shih Tzu Daisy asks for help on a dangerous mission. Of course, there’s mixed breed Duke (along with Max) who visits a farm only to have to survive canine-intolerant cows, hostile foxes and a terrifying turkey.
With humor and irreverence, the film looks at the emotional lives of pets and their bond with the families that love them. The furry gang searches deep for their inner courage to face their fears with some help from the one-and-only Harrison Ford, the voice behind veteran farm dog Rooster. All the stars are back: Kevin Hart, Tiffany Hadish, Patton Oswalt, Eric Stonestreet, Jenny Slate, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress, Nick Kroll, Dana Carvey, Ellie Kemper, Pete Holmes, Garth Jennings and Bobby Moynihan. Directed by Chris Renaud and co-director Jonathan Del Val, written by Brian Lynch and produced by Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy. Visit thesecretlifeofpets.com.
Saturday, June 8: Angel Pets Conference and Angel Expo 2019
Get great senior-pet info at the Angel Pet Conference.

This event celebrates its 5th year, on what would have been Catherine’s birthday.
Celebrating its 5thyear, this event honors the life of Catherine Hubbard, who was tragically slain during the 2012 Sandy Hook Massacre. This year, the event falls on an extra special day – what would have been Catherine’s 13thbirthday. The Butterfly Party pays tribute to her life by continuing her dream of one day working with animals and spreading love and kindness to animals and all beings. Last year, more than 6,000 attended the event, and more than 70 homeless animals found forever homes. Funds raised by the event support the building and development of the official Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, a future destination for animal and wildlife care in Newtown, Connecticut.
Saturday, June 29:  Catfest London
The second edition of this day-and-night festival at Beckenham Place Mansion will be bigger and better. Discover fab cat accessories from 50-plus exhibitors, books, the Swell Cat art show, vegan street food, cocktails, live music and big-cat cult flick ROAR under the stars. Take in soulful talks from best-selling writers and animal experts like BBC’s Big Cats About the House stars Giles Clark and Gwen Cooper (Homer’s Odyssey).
