The importance of regulation. So many technologies or practices that are grandfathered in we take for granted as ‘of course’, but those standards were all written in blood and horrors. (comment courtesy of @grlizzybear) #deregulation - the true evil here is when companies can always do what they want XD #very good add izzy! #I think about companies currently doing horrors - or trying to undo regulations to bring the horrors back (e.g. EPA regulation) (tags courtesy of @detectivefable)
.
Not to mention: see that horse in the comic? The DC (as opposed to AC) power grid Edison had implemented routinely electrocuted both people and horses up through the underground tunnels that housed some of the lines. It also required massive amounts of substations, hence the huge amount of lines everywhere. (comment courtesy of @cloacatak)
.
#those were also largely DC lines #Unless you are in the 10s of kv range DC has massive transmission loss #they needed that many lines just to supply power to one apartment building #also with the transmission loss being so absurd they needed power generation every couple blocks #there is a reason AC power won and its largely due to all of DCs nonsense like this (tags courtesy of @thatstrangeowl)
.
love how you people are falling for 1890s anti-Tesla anti-AC propaganda this is insane. Any country with a tendency to have earthquakes have above ground power lines btw. Yes, there were deaths. Not many at all. They very quickly made things safer once a few deaths occurred. No, it did not happen that often. When it did, it was people who were messing directly with the power lines. The poster was not made out of fear of electricity or even power lines in general, but of Westinghouse's usage of alternating current power lines. This took place during the switch over from gas to electric. Out of 79 deaths in 1901 to 1902, 14 were caused by electricity (regardless of if AC or DC currents being used) This was a war between Edison and Tesla (ultimately). You had the more expensive, less effective, rather stupid Edison current option: DC, which needed one power plant for every 400 people. It also works within only a handful of kilometres. Or, you had the far, far cheaper, more effective and more useful Tesla current option: AC. Edison had paid tons for the patent on the DC structure and refused Tesla's proposal to switch to AC when he offered. Tesla's ideas were bought up by Westinghouse and golly jee was Edison furious. Knowing his method would lose to Tesla's, he started a massive smear campaign to get people afraid of the AC power lines. The media immediately followed suit, because the media has always been ridiculous. What this poster is opposed to was NOT power lines, but the usage of Tesla's higher voltage AC. Brown (a massive anti-AC) and Edison "proved" AC was "more dangerous than DC by paying kids to kidnap dogs which they then tortured and electrocuted to death in front of live audiences using AC current. Not a joke. Those who died also were very much messing with the wires, they didn't actually have a tendency to snap. (comment courtesy of @fuck-no-bullshit)
.
These people were also living in wooden houses without running water, maybe they were concerned about, y'know, fire? One of the biggest dangers in cities at that time? (comment courtesy of @domina-honoribila) .
5g requires more power. the extra power is predicted to increase my country's energy consumption by 5% by itself. (comment courtesy of @celesteateyourrights)
.
#its important to note that there are still many places in the world where this kind of infrastructure is common #and people just live with it #irl stuff (tags courtesy of @notquiteapex)
.
#also…y'all know why they don't teach this in history books. #it's the same reason we don't learn about the luddite rebellion in depth (tags courtesy of @novemberstarling)
.
I can't speak for other countries, or states really but I was raised in the deep south. History was presented to me in the most simplified manner possible. Propaganda, not fact. Stories meant to make you feel good, not ones that let you understand the world. Around Nixon's regime the conservatives got afraid because well educated kids were becoming well educated voters who, unsurprisingly, would vote for things like social welfare or higher wages. So they decided to sabotage information. So you're not going to see the horrifying knot tangle of electric wires that early electric companies made because then you have to talk about how much people hated it and how they got laws made that made electricity safe to use. They'll have to talk about how Thomas Edison was a bastard and probably didn't invent a single thing in his entire life. They'll talk about the suffragette movement in precise terms or how suicide rates dropped by half when No Fault Divorce became the norm in the 1970s. Our ancestors fought long and hard for public education and people who want kids stupid and pliable are sabotaging it. (comment courtesy of @feline-flights-of-fancy)

6G Wi-fi Spectrum: Not Only a Millimeter-Wave Future
In 6G telecom analysis at this time, an important portion of wi-fi spectrum has been uncared for: the Frequency Vary 3, or FR3, band. The shortcoming is partly on account of a scarcity of viable software program and {hardware} platforms for learning this area of spectrum, starting from roughly 6 to 24 gigahertz. However a brand new, open-source wi-fi analysis package is altering that equation.…

More cells are being added to the cell tower next to where I live. Every fucking time they add more it gets worse for me. As if my life hasn't become restricted enough already from this shit. Maybe I'll get lucky this time and instead of almost killing me when they turn it on it'll actually kill me this time. At least I won't have to wake up here in this Hell anymore. https://medcraveonline.com/JABB/JABB-04-00096#:~:text=Some%20people%20who%20are%20electrically,contribute%20to%20even%20more%20anxiety

5G Fixed Wireless Access Market Dynamics Driver: Surging demand for high-speed Internet connectivity and broad network coverage with reduced latency and power consumption The evolution of 5G is projected to take fixed wireless access to a new level using a wide range of radio spectrum. This is expected to enable consumers to achieve major capacity gains and low-latency connectivity. Thus, 5G fixed wireless access is anticipated to enhance network performance capabilities and offer more high-speed network coverage than existing connectivity networks.
The increasing adoption of connected devices, such as smartphones, laptops, and smart devices, in several commercial and residential applications, such as distance learning, autonomous driving, multiuser gaming, videoconferencing, and live streaming, as well as in telemedicine and augmented reality, is expected to support the demand for 5G fixed wireless access solutions to achieve extended coverage.
Restraint: Environmental impact of millimeter-wave frequency circuitries The millimeter-wave spectrum faces several challenges, such as the high costs of components. Manufacturing small components requires high precision, which increases their manufacturing costs and results in non-line-of-sight issues. Millimeter waves are blocked by physical objects such as trees and buildings, resulting in loss of signals and reduced range. These disadvantages may lead telecommunication operators to increase the number of towers and use equipment based on new technologies.
Opportunity: Partnerships among platform and hardware providers, mobile operators, and system integrators in emerging economies The 5G ecosystem comprises 5G component and product manufacturers, network infrastructure and platform providers, system integrators, and end users. Presently, partnerships/collaborations between hardware manufacturers and mobile network operators in the context of 5G are limited to the US, China, Japan, and some European countries. 5G application platform providers, hardware vendors, and mobile operators have established strategic partnerships with the leading system integrators to accelerate the development and commercialization of 5G products and technologies. The stakeholders in the market are increasingly investing in the development of fixed wireless access-related components and equipment to harness the market potential of fixed wireless access. They are forming strategic partnerships with other key players.
Challenge: Compatibility issues between traditional and 5G networks The seamless shift from traditional networks to 5G fronthaul and backhaul networks is difficult to achieve. Usually, traditional fronthaul/backhaul networks are incompatible with the new, advanced fronthaul/backhaul equipment. This creates compatibility issues leading to increasing infrastructure-related costs and results in the reluctance of organizations to employ advanced technologies. However, startup companies who are vendors for OEMs and established players in 5G FWA industry are using highly efficient advanced fronthaul/backhaul solutions to design and develop new systems based on the requirements of their customers.
