Nova Scotia reports 1,020 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, new outbreaks at hospitals

Health officials in Nova Scotia are reporting 1,020 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and an estimated 6,439 active cases in the province.

Public health says there are 544 cases in the Central zone, 182 cases in Eastern zone, 141 cases in Northern zone, and 153 cases in Western zone.

Premier Tim Houston and Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia's chief medical officer of health, are scheduled to provide a live COVID-19 news conference on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m., which will be livestreamed on CTV Atlantic's website.

N.S. COVID-19 CASE DATA

The Nova Scotia Health Authority’s labs completed 5,472 tests on Monday. The province has completed 1,601,042 tests since the pandemic began. From Jan. 1 to 3, 102 of 2,913 positive lab results were repeat positives.

Information about testing, self-isolation and case management is available online.

There are currently 40 people in hospital due to COVID-19, with five in intensive care. Their ages range from 26 to 98 years old, with an average age of 70.

Of those in hospital:

About 10 per cent have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

About 61 per cent are fully vaccinated (two doses).

About three per cent are partially vaccinated.

About 26 per cent are unvaccinated.

HOSPITAL OUTBREAKS

The Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) is reporting new outbreaks at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Northside General Hospital, and a new ward at the Victoria General site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Fewer than five patients at each facility have tested positive.

NSHA is reporting additional cases related to an outbreak in a ward at the Halifax Infirmary. There are now 12 patients who have tested positive.

In addition, there are ongoing outbreaks at the Halifax Infirmary, Dartmouth General Hospital, Victoria General site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre, St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish and New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Fewer than 10 patients at each facility have tested positive.

VACCINE UPDATE

Nova Scotia's COVID-19 online dashboard provides an update on the amount of vaccines that have been administered to date.

As of Tuesday, 1,792,946 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered. Of those, 794,915 Nova Scotians have received their second dose, and 134,697 eligible Nova Scotians have received a third dose.

COVID ALERT APP

Canada’s COVID-19 Alert app is available in Nova Scotia.

The app, which can be downloaded through the Apple App Store or Google Play, notifies users if they may have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

LIST OF SYMPTOMS

Anyone who experiences a new or worsening cough, or who has two or more of the following symptoms, needs to self-isolate and take an online COVID-19 self-assessment test, or call 811, to determine if you need to be tested for COVID-19:

fever (chills, sweats);

sore throat;

headache;

shortness of breath; and

runny nose/nasal congestion.

Shrewsbury + Flooding update – Thursday 27 February – 9am

Please see below important information about roads, car parks, buses and other services affected by this week’s flooding.

CAR PARKS – the following car parks are closed:

Shrewsbury

Frankwell – main and riverside

St Julian’s Friars

Raven Meadows multi-storey

Abbey Foregate. The top section and part of the lower section are OPEN. There’s no parking in the coned-off section as this forms part of the temporary flood bus terminus

Premier Inn car park (off Raven Meadows)

Resident and season ticket holders for Frankwell Main and St Julian’s Friars car parks may park in Abbey Foregate car park until further notice.

Residents or customers in Bridgnorth with a valid resident or season permit (on or off-street) can use  Innage Lane Car Park.

Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury bus station is closed and services are terminating at temporary stops at Abbey Foregate coach park, Theatre Severn and New Park Road (Castle Foregate end), rather than the bus station.

Bus services will terminate as follows:

Theatre Severn – Services 11, 20. 70, 70A, 552/553, 558, Oxon P&R,

Abbey Foregate HGV/Coach Park – Services 1, 8, 19, 21 23, 26, 27, 435, 436, 544/546, X4, X5 & Meole Brace P&R. This is due to be reviewed.

New Park Road (Castle Foregate End) – Services 2, 24, 25, 64, 501, 511, 519, 576, Harlescott P&R

School transport

All school transport routes operating in out of the town are experiencing significant delays.

School transport in the Melverley area is severely disrupted.

Bridgnorth services

113/114 Telford to Bridgnorth service is not operating between Sutton Maddock and the Bandon Island, due to the A442 road closure. A diversionary route is being followed.

Service 8 (Bridgnorth to Telford) will not be able to serve Ironbridge or Jackfield from Madeley and will have to divert through Much Wenlock to access Broseley to Bridgnorth.

Other services affected

Service 19 – Shrewsbury to Telford – is operating via the M54.

Service 18 – Telford to Much Wenlock via Ironbridge- is following a diversionary route

Theatre Severn / Oxon park and ride

The Park & Ride from Oxon (SY3 5AD) has been extended for Theatre Severn and Old Market Hall ticketholders until further notice. This free service will run from 6pm to and from Theatre Severn to accommodate the start and end times of performances. Please arrive as early as possible and show the driver your ticket or ticket receipt for travel. Where necessary, performance start times may be delayed for latecomers.

We’ll continue to make daily inspections whilst we wait for water levels to reduce sufficiently to carry out a more detailed survey.

OTHER

Shrewsbury shopping centres – The Darwin Centre will re-open today (Thursday). The Pride Hill and Riverside Centres will remain closed due to the flood water and the clean-up operation required.

Shrewsbury railway station. Now fully open.

The Gateway in Shrewsbury will remain closed until Monday.

Shrewsbury Colleges Group – Welsh and English bridge campuses are closed.

University Centre Shrewsbury – is due to reopen today (Thursday). Follow social media for updates.

Recently as of 2020-03-30, I have started having an ongoing dialogue about cleaning up my image and becoming A LOT more responsible from my days just as an idealistic Business student at Loyalist College.

A life-changing experience I had relates to living on 544 Victoria st, Kingston Ontario this year. I witnessed my friend being harassed constantly in her living environment. It really tested what my responsibilities were as a male feminist and a peer of hers. Now I want to hold myself to a more conforming & collectivized ethical standard. 

  I am writing this openly to share that there has been deep reflection and thought about an Autistic person becoming a Security Guard. In Legal fundamentals in Business School, I learned contract law and the importance of consideration. I am prepared to move forward and work as a Security Guard with a disability, giving adequate consideration to my limitations as well as my abilities. The idea of making this information publicly available and enforcing the fact I will have a public discussion with you about my disability.

Customer service is the greatest skill I have. I am good with customers. I am a kind person, an ethical salesperson and a knowledgeable person who worked in Financial Market Research at And Agency in Toronto in 2018. Becoming certified in CannSell – CannSell made me define cannabis use to a legal and ethical standard as set by law. Personally, I am licensed to help facilitate the sale of recreational cannabis to legal adults. As a personal morality. I make sure to lightly converse with friends on healthier ways to integrate cannabis into their lives. ( I have no medical background. I just am a Medical marijuana user.)

Volunteered for the governing party – I volunteered for Shelley Carrol (Ex Liberal MP)  in the provincial Election which saw Doug Ford (Conservative) win majority.

Was in newspapers about Windmill setup at ENSS, Belleville Pride & Kingston Pride. Where I was an active volunteer or participant.

I have run 7 times for Terry Fox. I am hoping to do more of them soon! 🙂

Recently as of 2020-03-30, I have started having an ongoing dialogue about cleaning up my image and becoming A LOT more responsible from my days just as an idealistic Business student at Loyalist College.

A life-changing experience I had relates to living on 544 Victoria st, Kingston Ontario this year. I witnessed my friend being harassed constantly in her living environment. It really tested what my responsibilities were as a male feminist and a peer of hers. Now I want to hold myself to a more conforming & collectivized ethical standard. 

  I am writing this openly to share that there has been deep reflection and thought about an Autistic person becoming a Security Guard. In Legal fundamentals in Business School, I learned contract law and the importance of consideration. I am prepared to move forward and work as a Security Guard with a disability, giving adequate consideration to my limitations as well as my abilities. The idea of making this information publicly available and enforcing the fact I will have a public discussion with you about my disability.

Customer service is the greatest skill I have. I am good with customers. I am a kind person, an ethical salesperson and a knowledgeable person who worked in Financial Market Research at And Agency in Toronto in 2018. I feel as though this defines me more than my disability. Even though I have to recognize limitations especially in the use of force. I just want to communicate I can be an asset to the profession.

6 real ways I have made a difference for the betterment of my community as a disabled person:

Volunteering for E-Waste drives at ENSS

Speaking up for the rights of refugees, disabled people, women & people of different racial backgrounds.

Becoming certified in CannSell – CannSell made me define cannabis use to a legal and ethical standard as set by law. Personally, I am licensed to help facilitate the sale of recreational cannabis to legal adults. As a personal morality. I make sure to lightly converse with friends on healthier ways to integrate cannabis into their lives. ( I have no medical background. I just am a Medical marijuana user.)

Volunteered for the governing party – I volunteered for Shelley Carrol (Ex Liberal MP)  in the provincial Election which saw Doug Ford (Conservative) win majority.

Was in newspapers about Windmill setup at ENSS, Belleville Pride & Kingston Pride. Where I was an active volunteer or participant.

I have run 7 times for Terry Fox. I am hoping to do more of them soon! 🙂

All school transport routes operating in out of the town are experiencing significant delays.

School transport in the Melverley area is severely disrupted.

Bridgnorth services

113/114 Telford to Bridgnorth service is not operating between Sutton Maddock and the Bandon Island, due to the A442 road closure. A diversionary route is being followed.

Service 8 (Bridgnorth to Telford) will not be able to serve Ironbridge or Jackfield from Madeley and will have to divert through Much Wenlock to access Broseley to Bridgnorth.

Other services affected

Service 19 – Shrewsbury to Telford – is operating via the M54.

Service 18 – Telford to Much Wenlock via Ironbridge- is following a diversionary route

Theatre Severn / Oxon park and ride

The Park & Ride from Oxon (SY3 5AD) has been extended for Theatre Severn and Old Market Hall ticketholders until further notice. This free service will run from 6pm to and from Theatre Severn to accommodate the start and end times of performances. Please arrive as early as possible and show the driver your ticket or ticket receipt for travel. Where necessary, performance start times may be delayed for latecomers.

University Centre Shrewsbury – is due to reopen on Thursday. Follow social media for updates.

St. Winefride’s School. They anticipate opening as usual on Thursday but will continue to monitor the situation. Follow social media for updates.
