hi magz! I'm curious about the backup posts im seeing and since you added resources about that im asking you so I hope that's okay... as someone who has had the same blog for 13 years and probably has hundreds of thousands of posts, do you think I should get a large external hard-drive for my backup? I just worry I won't currently have space on my laptop for the backup. Btw I super appreciate the resource you posted and I intend to use it to back up my shit! Thank you so much <3
There was someone in DMs that had over 200gb when backup blog of several years - this blog and one that had for 5 years was like ~15gb or something. So it vary a lot.
If are worry:
- Get at least 500gb hard drive or up (can be internal HDD+ external case, or an external backup drive which tend cost more overall), am think. In case.
- Or SD card (memory card) 256gb or 512gb depend on what have available.
Though keep in mind: the size only say much capacity it can when rounded up, it not say how fast.
- Decent hard drive speeds : 7200rpm - otherwise SSD.
- External case or external hard drives decent speeds: with usb 3 or usb c cable/port. (If have computer with usb3 port on it, to be compatible)
If not care for speed, then be prepared wait long while, potentially. Besides internet speed which also affect...
problem with slow speed is that if something mess up connection (usb cable, pc turn off, backup interrupted / something crash) it might cause issues like corrupted files, but not common - most the time can just continue backup where left off without corruption. Just leave it running in whatever safe way that can.
For used HDDs tips:
- check hard drive health (do not use software like recuverit or anything like that)
- format the drive and wipe the contents (even if it appear as if have nothing)
General buy advice:
- try not get scammed with Very Cheap Very Big-Size hard drives / SD cards / USBs in general. Some scams are on ebay, amazon, whatever - where they spoof the hard drive to say it have more memory than actually do or give wrong product. so use fakespot or any other tool or search youtube for "hard drive scams" for telltale signs. A lot of hard drives legit tho.

What’s better, a desktop or laptop for programming? Why? 🖥️💻⬇️⬇️
Both are better and both are worse.
I own both a desktop and I have a laptop. My desktop is connected to a 32″ monitor, gaming keyboard and a mouse. To say that it is awesome is an understatement. My laptop is a 15″ Macbook pro (2014), i5 with 16GB memory and 512GB disk. My desktop has 32 GB memory, much faster i5, and has as many disks and disk space as I want to put into it.
👩🏻‍💻But back to programming, coding and hacking. Which is better ? 🤔
💻I would say, the laptop, but that is cheating, because over 90% of the time I use it, I have it connected to a 27″ display, Mx Keys keyboard and Mx Master 3s. So it is pretty much a smaller version of my desktop computer pretty much. 😍
😱If I needed to get rid of one of them, it would be the desktop one. I can take my laptop and have it on my lap in front of the TV, in my bed, on a plane, in different countries and so forth, if I needed to. I have taken it to hold lectures, tutorials, code reviews and many other things, which frankly, I would not even try to do on my desktop. 😌
🫣Before you ask, why do I have both ? I am hard pressed at answering it differently than, because I can :) I play games on my desktop one, editing movies, keep my photo library and many other things. 📽️👾
💯In a perfect world, I would have my desktop on and a smaller laptop.
🛻So, space and transportation. If you need to take it out of the house once in a while, then it is the laptop. If you ever want to meet at someones house and do a quick hackathon, then the laptop. 🤩
😇Laptops are seriously fast, with an ssd disk, you never have to wait for anything, even laptops you might consider being slow, like i3 and i5 laptops. With enough ram and fast disk, you never have to wait for anything. If you are doing web programming, then you can even get a cheaper one. All computers are very fast, the fastest ones are just crazy fast. 🏎️
❗A quick pros and cons (not a complete list, but gets the job done) :
📍Laptop pros
🔖portability
📍Laptop cons
🔖disk space 🔖memory 🔖not being able to tinker and update (most of them, many do allow for it) 🔖not ideal for storing a lot of photos 🔖expensive
📍desktop pros
🔖expandability 🔖put in as much disks as you want 🔖usually can do 32GB memory or even more 🔖Can have the latest and greatest graphic cards 🔖Does not get warm in your lap 🔖Allows for much better keyboards, mice and trackpads 🔖cheaper 🔖assemble one yourself, and no part will break that costs a lot to replace
📍cons
🔖no cons really, except for portability perhaps I like my machines, but my laptop much more.

Agreed. But I think a 512GB memory card sounds better and more comfortable to live inside of. After all, the more memory, the more shit you can cram inside of. And it's all free, too! Well, after you pay for it a single time, of course.
Girls love when you convert their consciousness into data and then put them on a 500 MB USB stick and carry them around in your pocket. You can even put jpgs of ikea furniture in there and it's like a little apartment.

In the era of compact technology, mini PCs are revolutionizing our approach to gaming, streaming, and productivity. The CHUWI LarkBox X, a compact powerhouse equipped with Intel’s 12th Gen N100 processor, is designed to blend efficiency with performance. This mini PC aims to pack the punch required for light gaming, multitasking, and media consumption without taking up much space. Here, we’ll dive into what makes the CHUWI LarkBox X a strong contender in the mini PC gaming arena.
Overview: CHUWI LarkBox X The CHUWI LarkBox X combines a powerful Intel 12th Gen N100 processor, 15W TDP, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 512GB SSD storage in a mini chassis that fits seamlessly into small spaces. It’s powered by Windows 11 and comes equipped with the latest connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. With expandability options up to 1TB, it also provides flexibility for users to boost storage based on their needs.
Key Specifications of the CHUWI LarkBox X Processor: Intel 12th Gen N100 TDP: 15W RAM: 12GB LPDDR5 Storage: 512GB SSD (expandable up to 1TB) Graphics: Integrated Intel UHD Graphics Operating System: Windows 11 Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 Each component is carefully selected to maintain a balance between performance and energy efficiency. The specifications suggest that while it’s not designed for high-end AAA gaming, it can handle lighter games and general computing tasks with ease. Let’s break down each feature to understand its benefits and limitations.
Processor: Intel 12th Gen N100 with 15W TDP The Intel N100 processor, part of Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake-N series, is the beating heart of the LarkBox X. With a power consumption of 15W, this CPU strikes a good balance between power efficiency and performance, making it suitable for a mini PC. The N100 is based on Intel’s hybrid architecture, which means it’s designed for multitasking while using less power.
The processor is well-suited for lightweight games, emulators, and indie titles, although it may struggle with more graphically intensive AAA games. However, for fans of popular titles like Minecraft, Stardew Valley, and Among Us, this mini PC delivers a reliable gaming experience.
Graphics: Integrated Intel UHD Graphics The integrated Intel UHD Graphics is not the latest in high-end graphics, but it holds up well in most everyday scenarios, especially for a device in the mini PC category. While it can’t be compared to dedicated GPUs found in gaming laptops or desktops, the UHD Graphics chip is more than capable of handling light gaming, HD streaming, and video playback. Casual games and older titles like CS: GO, League of Legends, or Fortnite on low settings should run smoothly, allowing users to enjoy gaming without needing a dedicated graphics card.
For content consumers, the UHD Graphics chip enables smooth 4K video playback, making this a viable option for media centers. Whether watching movies or YouTube videos in high resolution, this mini PC can serve as a compact and versatile home entertainment hub.
Memory and Storage: 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB SSD With 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, the CHUWI LarkBox X offers a solid level of multitasking capability. LPDDR5 RAM is a high-performance memory option that supports faster data transfer rates while consuming less power than its predecessors. This is particularly beneficial in mini PCs, where efficient power use can prolong the device’s overall life and improve performance consistency.
The 512GB SSD is another key feature, offering ample storage for games, applications, and personal files. For users who need additional storage, the LarkBox X supports expandability up to 1TB, allowing for extra space without replacing the existing SSD. This flexibility is particularly useful for gamers and professionals who require extensive storage space for game libraries, media, or design files.
Operating System: Windows 11 Windows 11 powers the LarkBox X, giving users access to the latest features and updates from Microsoft. With a user-friendly interface, efficient multitasking capabilities, and an optimized gaming environment, Windows 11 complements the hardware of the LarkBox X well. Game Mode in Windows 11 can allocate more CPU and GPU resources to games, providing an optimized gaming experience. Additionally, the OS supports Xbox Game Pass, which allows access to a vast library of games, further expanding the device's gaming potential.
Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 For gamers, streamers, and remote workers alike, reliable connectivity is a must. The CHUWI LarkBox X comes equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, ensuring fast internet speeds and stable connections. Wi-Fi 6 offers improved performance in dense environments, which is particularly beneficial for those using multiple devices in one network.
Bluetooth 5.2 also provides better range and faster transfer speeds than previous versions. This is useful for connecting wireless peripherals, such as controllers, headphones, or keyboards, making the LarkBox X a versatile choice for different use cases, whether for work, play, or both.
Expandability and Portability With its expandable storage, the CHUWI LarkBox X gives users the option to customize the device to meet their needs. Whether you’re a digital creator needing more space for media files or a gamer with a growing library, this mini PC adapts to you. Its compact design means you can easily fit it on a desk, in an entertainment center, or even pack it for travel, making it ideal for students or remote workers who may need to bring their setup with them.
Real-World Gaming Performance When it comes to gaming, the CHUWI LarkBox X is best suited for lightweight, less graphically demanding games. Titles such as Cuphead, Celeste, and Rocket League can run smoothly with adjusted settings. For emulation, it can handle older console games up to the PS2 era quite comfortably, making it a good choice for fans of retro gaming.
That said, users should temper expectations regarding modern AAA titles. With limited GPU power, it’s unlikely to run graphically intensive games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Elden Ring at an enjoyable framerate. Instead, the LarkBox X is a great choice for indie games, 2D platformers, and cloud gaming, where the processing load is offloaded to servers, allowing the device to play high-end games via services like NVIDIA GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Pros and Cons Pros:
Compact, portable design Sufficient performance for casual gaming and multitasking Efficient Intel 12th Gen N100 processor with 15W TDP Good connectivity options (Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2) Expandable storage up to 1TB Cons:
Limited gaming potential for high-end titles Integrated graphics may not meet heavy graphical demands Small form factor can limit cooling, which may affect long-term performance Is the CHUWI LarkBox X Worth It? For those in the market for a compact, efficient mini PC capable of handling everyday tasks, light gaming, and media streaming, the CHUWI LarkBox X is an excellent option. Its mix of power-efficient hardware, solid connectivity options, and Windows 11 operating system makes it an ideal choice for casual gamers, students, remote workers, and those looking for a small form factor PC for general use. Although it may not replace a dedicated gaming PC, it’s a fantastic option for light gamers and anyone who wants a multi-functional device.
With its flexible storage options and expandable capabilities, the CHUWI LarkBox X is a solid investment for those who want a small but powerful machine without breaking the bank. While it may not compete with full-fledged gaming rigs, its performance for indie games, emulation, and streaming makes it a versatile addition to any tech enthusiast’s setup.
The CHUWI LarkBox X illustrates how far mini PCs have come, allowing users to enjoy light gaming and multimedia experiences within a compact, energy-efficient package. Whether you’re a gamer looking for a secondary device or a professional seeking a flexible workstation, this mini PC delivers a blend of portability, performance, and efficiency that’s hard to ignore.

Choosing the Best Business and Gaming Laptops in the US
Understanding Your Needs: Business vs. Gaming Laptops
Before diving into specific models and features, it's essential to distinguish between business and gaming laptops. While both types of laptops can offer excellent performance, they are designed with different priorities in mind.
Business Laptops: These are optimized for productivity, efficiency, and portability. They focus on features like long battery life, lightweight designs, and reliable processors for multitasking.
Gaming Laptops: These are built for high-performance gaming, with powerful graphics cards, fast processors, and high refresh rate displays. They may be bulkier due to cooling requirements but offer incredible performance for gaming and other resource-intensive tasks.
Key Features to Consider
Whether you're looking for a business laptop or a gaming powerhouse, certain features should be at the top of your checklist.
1. Processor (CPU)
The processor is the brain of your laptop, and it plays a crucial role in both business and gaming tasks. Here are some common options:
For Business Laptops: Look for laptops with Intel Core i5 or i7 processors or AMD Ryzen 5 and 7 series for smooth multitasking. These processors are ideal for handling spreadsheets, presentations, video calls, and more.
Tumblr media
For Gaming Laptops: Opt for Intel Core i7 or i9 processors, or AMD Ryzen 7 and 9 series, which provide the power needed for fast-paced games and high-end applications.
2. Graphics Card (GPU)
A high-quality graphics card is critical for gaming laptops, but it’s less essential for business machines unless you're working with graphics-intensive software.
For Business Laptops: Integrated graphics like Intel UHD or Iris Xe graphics should suffice for typical office tasks.
For Gaming Laptops: Look for dedicated GPUs like NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, 3070, or 3080, or AMD Radeon RX series, which ensure smooth gameplay at high settings.
3. RAM
Random Access Memory (RAM) affects your laptop's ability to multitask. Both business and gaming laptops benefit from having more RAM.
For Business Laptops: 8GB of RAM is usually sufficient for most business applications. However, if you work with large datasets or run multiple applications simultaneously, consider upgrading to 16GB.
For Gaming Laptops: At least 16GB of RAM is recommended for gaming to ensure smooth performance, especially when running modern games or streaming gameplay.
4. Storage
Storage capacity is crucial for keeping all your files, programs, and games.
For Business Laptops: A 256GB or 512GB SSD is ideal for fast access to files and smooth performance. SSDs are faster and more reliable than traditional hard drives.
For Gaming Laptops: Consider a 512GB or 1TB SSD to store large game files, with the option to expand via external drives if needed.
5. Display and Refresh Rate
The display is one of the most critical factors in gaming laptops, while for business laptops, size and resolution are often more important than refresh rate.
For Business Laptops: A 13 to 15-inch screen with Full HD (1920x1080) resolution is typically the sweet spot. Some users may prefer higher resolutions, such as 4K, for detailed work like graphic design.
For Gaming Laptops: Look for laptops with a 15 to 17-inch screen, Full HD or QHD resolution, and a high refresh rate (at least 120Hz) for smoother gameplay.
6. Battery Life
Battery life is a critical factor for business laptops, especially if you’re frequently on the move.
For Business Laptops: Aim for at least 8 to 10 hours of battery life to ensure you can work through the day without constantly searching for a power outlet.
For Gaming Laptops: Battery life is generally shorter due to the power-hungry components. Expect around 4 to 6 hours of battery life during moderate use, but less while gaming.

Intel Battlemage GPU: everything we know so far
Despite a rocky start, Intel’s Arc GPUs are now among the best graphics cards you can buy. Targeting budget PC gamers, Intel has established itself as a major player in gaming graphics cards, and all eyes are on Team Blue with its next generation of GPUs, codenamed Battlemage.
We know Battlemage GPUs are coming, and Intel has slowly been dropping hints about the graphics cards over the past year. Although we’re still waiting on an official release date, specs, and pricing details for Battlemage GPUs, there’s a lot we can piece together already.
The most recent bit of scoop about the specs comes directly from a Geekbench benchmark that showcases a discrete Intel GPU in action. The GPU is only referred to as “Intel Xe Graphics RI,” so it’s unclear which model we’re dealing with. It had 160 compute units, which translates to 20 Xe cores, 12GB of VRAM, and a boost clock reaching up to 2,850MHz.
These core counts are lower than both Arc A770 and Arc A750, which had 32 Xe cores and 28 Xe cores, respectively — but the boost frequency is higher.
Wccftech has also spotted a new Arc Battlemage graphics card in the graphics-related logs generated by the Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) subsystem within the Linux kernel. The logs revealed that the card was sporting 12GB of VRAM — much like in the benchmark I spoke about above — and 19Gbps memory. This is faster than Arc Alchemist, but as the GPU only comes with a 192-bit memory bus, the bandwidth might still be lower at 456GB/s as opposed to the 512GB/s we’ve seen in Alchemist. The number of Xe cores on this GPU remains a little uncertain, but the leak suggests that the GPU might come with just 14 Xe2 cores.
Originally, leakers like RedGamingTech claimed the flagship card would come with 64 Xe cores — double what’s available on the A770 we have now, and with an entirely new architecture in tow. At the beginning of the year, RedGamingTech revised their rumor, saying that the flagship GPU would come with 56 Xe cores. That’s still a massive bump over the A770. The latest speculation is a little bit different, however.
Frequent Twitter leaker Harukaze5719 found some shipping manifests that gave us some insight into the rumored specs of Intel Battlemage. According to the manifests, Battlemage will come in two flavors: X2 and X3. The X2 card is said to be the flagship, and the specs are drastically cut down compared to what RedGamingTech speculated on earlier this year.
The X2 card is said to come with 32 Xe2 cores, which translates to a (presumed) 4,096 stream processors (SPs) and 512 execution units (EUs). That’s exactly the same as Intel Arc A770, but the Battlemage architecture is also said to provide some improvements regardless of the number of EUs. The second card will reportedly sport 28 Xe2 cores (3,584 SPs and 448 EUs).
According to speculation, the so-called Battlemage GPU with 56 Xe2 cores was canceled. Intel appears to be adopting a similar strategy to AMD’s RDNA 4 in this generation by sticking to the budget part of the market. However, just a few months ago, the rumors were vastly different. Apart from the flagship card with much better specs, RedGamingTech used to claim that the card could reach clock speeds of up to 3GHz and would come with a massive 112MB of L2 cache.
What really stands out about the leak is the Adamantine cache, however. This is a form of cache that Intel has developed for CPUs, and it’s not dissimilar from AMD’s 3D V-Cache — basically, you stack a bunch of extra cache on the die. It’s what you’d call a “Level 4” cache. It’s slow by cache standards, but RedGamingTech says Intel plans on packing a massive 512MB of Adamantine cache on the flagship chip. However, if Intel chooses to stick to the entry-level card for a flagship, chances are that the Adamantine cache won’t be a thing in this generation, either. Mind you, this is speculation.
In addition to the model with 56 Xe Cores, the leakers used to say that a model with 40 Xe cores was in the works. This one seems a bit more grounded in reality, packing the aforementioned cores, a 192-bit memory bus, and none of the Adamantine cache. RedGamingTech speculated that this design might claim the flagship slot, citing the poor margins that could come from the 56 Xe core model.
As things stand now, we have vastly different accounts from different sources. While some leakers used to claim Intel would offer a huge spec uplift in Battlemage, those rumors have gone silent. Which GPU is real: the one with 56 Xe2 cores or the one with 32 Xe2 cores? It’s impossible to tell right now.
We expected Battlemage cards to show up in the second half of 2024, but the timeline is growing uncertain as Intel is still yet to make any official announcements.
At the beginning of the year, Intel’s Tom Petersen said that engineers on the graphics team are working on software for the next-gen GPUs and that hardware engineers have already moved onto “the next thing.” Battlemage, on the hardware front at least, is ready to go. This was recently corroborated by DigiTimes, which reported (as shared by Gamers Nexus) that Battlemage production started in the first half of 2024. Battlemage has also made an appearance in Intel’s graphics drivers.
Adding more evidence to this is a recent shipping manifest showing two Battlemage GPUs. The manifest notes that these cards are “for R&D purposes only,” but sending hardware around suggests Intel is entering the final stages of validation. In addition, Intel itself shared a slide with Japanese media outlets showing a new GPU launching in 2024.
Leakers don’t agree with this timeline, however. YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead cites Intel sources claiming that Battlemage is targeting a very late 2024 or early 2025 release. That’s despite an early road map shared last year that showed GPUs launching between April and June of 2024. Meanwhile, at a recent conference that Intel held with Asus, the manufacturer is said to have promised to launch Battlemage before the end of the year.
That April to June roadmap didn’t happen, but Intel might still make it if it really plans to announce Battlemage before we ring in the new year.
The latest leak lines up with this time frame. ComputerBase reported that Intel would launch the GPUs before Black Friday in preparation for the holiday season, so there’s not much time left for it to make its announcements.
At this point, we’re waiting for Intel to share more. Intel stayed quiet on the matter of Battlemage during Computex 2024, so now we’re in limbo. Intel is also not alone in possibly skipping this year with a new GPU release — AMD and Nvidia are now also rumored to be waiting for early 2025 to launch their new graphics cards. In fact, AMD recently confirmed that it’s targeting early 2025 with RDNA 4, and Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang is set to host a keynote during CES 2025 that will likely include an RTX 50-series reveal.
We won’t know anything about pricing until Intel has more to share. However, there’s a good chance Intel will focus on budget and midrange cards rather than expensive flagships like the RTX 4090. That’s what we saw with the Arc A770 and A750 in the previous generation. Intel’s stance with Arc since its inception has been valuable, and I don’t suspect it will abandon that idea with Battlemage.
Given the specs, there are two ways the pricing could go. If Intel goes for the higher end and makes a competitive GPU, I suspect the flagship card will arrive around $500 — but this only applies if Intel goes ahead with the 56 Xe2-core model. That’s pure speculation right now, so don’t treat it any differently. Those more hopeful specs imply that Intel is designing a reasonably powerful flagship with Battlemage that will likely command a higher price, and we’ve seen with GPUs like the RX 7900 GRE from AMD and the RTX 4070 from Nvidia how important this price bracket is.
On the other hand, if Intel keeps it conservative, its flagship might end up being much cheaper at around $350. We’ll have to wait and see.
Intel calls the architecture behind Battlemage Xe2, following up on the Xe architecture we saw with Alchemist graphics cards. Leakers have shared a few details about what this next-generation architecture will entail, but we’re light on concrete details.
For starters, there’s a good chance Intel will stick with semiconductor manufacturer TSMC for Battlemage. We don’t know what node Intel will use, but rumor has it that Battlemage will use the N4 node. There are multiple variations of this node, some of which are being used in Nvidia’s next-gen data center GPUs named Blackwell, so it’s not clear if Intel will stick with a vanilla version or not. A recent DigiTimes report said that Intel will indeed use a TSMC 4nm node.
For Battlemage, Intel says it’s simplifying its lineup. With the first Xe architecture, Intel built it to scale from low-power laptops up to data center GPUs. Intel’s Tom Petersen says that Xe2 will have a more streamlined lineup. You’ll get Xe2-LPG for lower-power applications, and Xe2-HPG for high-performance discrete GPUs.
