The sky was red.

The shadow marched forth, Creating a suitable weapon, a finely crafted laser capable of burning a hole through the average person in not even a second. His army followed behind.

Black clouds overhead.

The time traveler took a step forward. Then another. There was no going back now. He raised his left hand, and Destroyed the troops that got too close to him, their bodies melting and bubbling like angry acids.

White sun illuminating the dread.

The girl took hold of a discarded shield, brandishing it before her, warily watching her caretaker and his shadow.

Dust settled on golden fields.

The shadow and the traveler raced towards each other, one blazing Creation, the other wielding Destruction. In their wake came flecks of lead and of gold.

That which is split can not yield.

Creation met Destruction. Black hole, supernova. The two forces canceled out, and both were sent flying backwards. Where they landed on the golden soil, acid melted away, revealing naught but black stone beneath.

Which of my words do you not heed?

Again they clashed, and again fell back. But this time, something was different. The girl saw it, and stole a brief smile.

Herein lies the key.

A third time the two dashed towards each other. The traveler hesitated, though. His hand lowered, and he looked at his shadow.

"Well?"

At the shadow's silence, he continued. "We'll get nowhere fighting. You want to reconcile, I saw it in your eyes. Take my hand; let's end this pointless war.

"That which is split can not yield."

The shadow sighed, and took his hand. At once, he began to fade, as the traveler began to cast a shadow again.

Black, white, gold, and red -

Now whole again, the traveler collapsed. The girl rushed to his side, and breathed a sigh of relief as she saw he was still alive. The journey home would be long indeed, but hopefully, things would be better now.
