"Danganronpa 5: my Worst Dream and Best Nightmare, or the Lament of the Grounded Ultimate Spaceman" by Bathsheba Eliam

(This is the genesis of a self-contained alternate universe worldbuilding assignment and eventually a Multi-Media Masterdocument of sort, dictating a vision of the corporate popularization and immediate selling-out of and moral panic around a hard soft reboot of Danganronpa supposedly made "by the fans" "for the fans."

The situation begins as a byproduct of Danganronpa V3 being received differently, as well as an uptick in the acclaim for the series after 2017 as a sort of cult classic, one that takes over places where no one in this reality cares. This is resulting in perception of it being Game (Series) of the Year for more than one year, coinciding with the 10-Year-Anniversary and the resulting forced cancelation of Kodaka's comparative original vision of I) the pacifist Alterate Universe installment that we recieved a short version of this dimension and II) an immediately following darker, more impressionistic Danganronpa 4 with the working title of "Danganronpa c4 — Great Depression" that would have taken place in the Kuril Islands and followed Jin Kirigiri, who was secretly spared by Monokuma, trying to prove that the killing games have continued in a secret location, years after the aforementioned "broadcast" ended and the world had "rebuilt".

Whatever else happens as a result of the reinterpretation of Danganronpa as a "legacy franchise," the constant marketing of a "Spyfi Era", and constant negotiations around an early-to-mid-2020s-spanning "Inter-active, Inter-national Event" to lead into the fanfare of an announced Danganronpa Monoverse and Multiverse, respectively, is indicated through hints and character introductions in this "pilot."

I will gladly offer my other more visual and varied sources from this controversial dimension, that can include any kind of media from this world but limited to the Monoversal Online Commune (that dimension's resulting militarized fandom specifically for Danganronpa 4, stylized as 5) and its many outlets. Although if anyone cared as much as I did, I would be willing to copy kinds of media that tangential as well (quizzes from fansites, official passages of dialogue from the game(s), biographical featurettes about its creators, merchandise, transcripts of Let's Plays and certainly more, as I do not think of anything as too detailed) in the vein of an obsession of mine that lasted about as long I have been working on these...things.

Danganronpa 5 is real and I thought I would be celebrating, privately at least.

Yet, the enabling vagueness of the unanimous hatred that the fans are feeling in private is enough to compell me to be the Spartacus and be the first to put it into, let's say, unsympathetic words. The appeal of the "killing game international" theory from YouTube based on the "5" anagram in the untouched treasure troves of codes in THH was fascinating and I would have given even more money for it to be true as of 2021 when it was really soaring as people were putting it together again after the first video. It was surprisingly compelling. ALSO. The implications of the Kuma Klan reveal in the early marketing that confirmed the theory was, tantalizing to say the least. The second that the new animation style was revealed and no one cared because they were so dazzled by Kokichi as Headmaster, I had a feeling that the darling campaign of teasers was a "too good to be true" scenario, not that I thought it was too good. Then the premier happened and I fell in love with how the prologue confirmed the entire theory in one uninterrupted gesture, and I soon enough could not be more disappointed.

Why did they let the game come off like a mobile game spinoff with the kindergarten palette of a Cut the Rope or Crossy Road??

Why did the whole first trial get wasted by a bunch of century-old Italian/"dark-skinned European" (I kid you not) stereotypes when the game was supposed to idolize and stylize in a distinctly love-lettery way the countries featured, when we already have to deal with the resulting anticlimactically cartoony Scottish Monokuma makeover stupidity????

Why was my darling Ultimate Astronomer Yura with her whimsy and distinctly Great Glass Elevator/Phantom Tollbooth aesthetic relegated to the straightman and then killed in such a basic manner just because of their sudden ultimately fetishistic obsession with Europe and Southern Asia and wanting to give Japan the "backseat"????

Why did they have god forsaken Jon Wagner the real worst character of the franchise, a literal implied groomer and canonical blonde haired "patriotic" GERMAN (albeit green-eyed), kill three students as if to immediately force him into the Nagito slot and give him a villainous allure posthumously that cannot go away for the rest of the game (before the twist when we get to thankfully have a flashback to easier days)?????

I digress. I do not care about the characters' fashions and debatably humor being "too millennial" like some of the vocal, supposedly liberal young fans that this installment has somehow basically created are making identical video essays about. I do not even resent them, despite how hyperbolic they are with their approach to getting this game cancelled at least ELEVEN MONTHS too late. I just find it ultimately a waste of the fandom's newfound agency that the high-budgeted delights of this whole soft reboot and the beginning of Generation, Too which definitely is getting delayed for a reason, has made other fans into frightened peacekeepers just because of how grateful the new writers say that they should be for how big of a deal it all is, despite only giving them so much in the way of faux-3D visuals and games-within-games that the random, unpunished in-character abuse of past characters, new more vulnerable characters and, in the guise of the "bone-dry humor" of characters like the Quadruplets and even Noa and Catalina, REAL PEOPLE AND CULTURES looks like something that is not a big enough deal that 6 and 4 could be not worth having.

Despite this ... of course I am looking forward to Danganronpa Feud: All-Despair Dynasty. If anything it's just because of the Arcana Studio/Witchblade-like concept art from the trailer which was practically an AMV (especially that of the Samurai who I am so psychically confident is the Yokai Form for Nagito not Naegi, despite what the "dead once, born twice" speech by Watatsusami implies) and worldbuilding for the Monobeasts/overall arguably revolutionary concept, even among these Danganronpa Whatif minigames that have been released for the overlong anniversary. In spite of my willingness to discuss this at most conveniences, the summer that I lost to Danganronpa 5: Life Exchange is almost traumatic, to the point where I would literally deny the existence of a trailer if they in spite of the latest "hiatus" WERE to reveal A) the oft-forgotten webseries that IS happening at least according to the self-indulgent Ronpa Writers Room Tumblr, or B) the last of the mascot-revealing short films/teasers for 6, both of which would be befitting of Halloween. I am also irrationally interested in the suspected webseries for the fact that my history with Dimension 20 and selectively Critical Roll gives me a decent insight into what this Erika Ishii-voiced-Monokuma is going to be like, despite the voice filter that she said she did need, however sure I am that that was just a joke about the Batman "and you'll never have to" gag running throughout the similarly recent Adventuring Party finale for Starstruck Episode II—Iliad not that anyone here is going to encourage me having thoughts about my other less passionate interests than this one, AS WELL as this one.

Nonetheless, I should hope that the franchise can get over Suki da Minamoto's infamous scripting method, stop relying on her RWR and their constant "retreats", and have the intended successor for Kodaka return from her still-shelved film project at Picona Studio before this period of reflection is over, and the two most crucial games of the new series are terrorized the same person that came up with the "Danganronpa Decade" era in the first place. I have to stop myself.

Since I am editing this to add any remaining positivity that I have after the epilogue was released, I should say the one part of the game that I have always understood people's willingness to use in fangans and such afterwards, unsurprisingly from Trial 5, in the Colloseum Room.

In the words of everyone's favorite self-proclaimed Ultimate Killing School Dropout, Chester "goddamn the Chevalier" Valentine,

"she made me realize that it's not Hell or Heaven ... It's Hell then Heaven! After everything, after Monokuma, after Tyranno Rex, and after the universe ... good's the last thing there is!"

January 5, 2019 NASA's New Horizons spacecraft flew by a small, distant world in the Kuiper Belt on New Year's Day – the place, officially designated 2014 MU69 and nicknamed Ultima Thule, is 4 billion miles from Earth. No spacecraft has ever explored a world so far away.

Several weeks before that flyby the New Horizons team gave people around the world the opportunity to "beam" their name and a choice of messages, at the speed of light, toward New Horizons and Ultima Thule on flyby day – ¬and 30,547 people ultimately signed on. "Happy 2019!" was the top choice, selected by 8,100 participants, followed by "Keep on Exploring!" sent by 6,800 participants. Transmitted on New Year's Eve from the satellite communications facility at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland – where New Horizons was built and is operated – the signals carrying the messages reached New Horizons just hours before the flyby, then continued on past Ultima Thule and through the Kuiper Belt.

New Horizons' closest approach to Ultima Thule occurred at 12:33 a.m. EST on Jan. 1, when it zipped approximately 2,200 miles (3,500 kilometers) from the object. When Yuuri shifted again, Victor’s hand moved under the loosened dress shirt making contact with the softest skin Victor had ever felt. The waistband of Yuuri’s briefs was tempting the tip of Victor’s pinky finger and in a moment of weakness, spurred by the happy hum of Yuuri against Victor’s adam’s apple, Victor let his hand begin to drop.

“I’m sorry about this Victor,” a deep voice behind them said, a hairy arm breaking the space between them to pull Yuuri away. Celestino hoisted his skater to his hip, and spoke the last of his apology only with his concerned eyes as he carried the staggering body of Yuuri Katsuki from the ballroom.

“Victor… Victor… Victor…” teased another voice, causing Victor to spin around and face Chris. “What are we going to do with you?” Smirking, Chris ruffled Victor’s hair and moved away, swaying his underwear clad hips with his pants slung over his shoulder.

It had been the best night of Victor’s life and he had failed to capitalize on it or even give Yuuri his phone number. Glancing down at his own phone, Victor sighed, grateful to at least have photographs to remember it all.

Especially the photograph of Yuuri, suspended on a pole with his arm extended toward Victor. The man had a beautiful everything, and Victor was determined to find him again.

Had Yuuri gotten even more irresistible in the months of his mystery absence from their joint sport? Pressing play on the YouTube video for a fifteenth time, Victor concluded that, yes, a slightly heavier Yuuri Katsuki was definitely doing things to him. The soft appearance of Yuuri’s cheeks made Victor want to trace the hidden cheekbones with his finger tips. The squishy roll of Yuuri’s tummy, exposed every time his t-shirt lifted with the force of a turn, made Victor want to cuddle against it for a long nap.

Victor threw his phone. It landed with a soft thud on the other side of the couch as he stared down at Makkachin. “Any interest in going to Japan?” he asked out loud, waiting for the bark of confirmation. When it came, with a tail wag and a silly flop of Makka’s tongue, Victor was already decided. Retrieving his phone from its landing place, he promised himself only five more viewings of the video. Victor bribed Mari to borrow her bike. After three days of running with Yuuri to the ice rink, Victor knew that he had to find away to be faster than Yuuri Katsuki.

He had run into four railings, fallen down two (thankfully small) flights of stairs, and in one really horrible turn of events run directly into the ocean. Yuuri running in front of him was bad news.

Because Yuuri wasn’t quite in shape yet, so there was this hint of jiggle still bouncing with every jogging step and Victor was memorized like a cat following the always out of reach red dot. The butt was perfectly round and only a few feet in front of his hands every time they set out together. Once he had reached for it, his self-restraint pathetically snapping like a tired rubber band as his mind became a Yuuri-centric mush of lust. At the last second he had gained sense, throwing himself into the ocean to drown his embarrassment in a wave of water.

He had two choices… somehow convince Yuuri to run in a giant plastic bubble or find a way to finally touch the sacred butt.

You have to be kidding me, Victor’s mind screamed in anguish as Yuuri stood under the water shower completely nude with the intent of sinking into the onsen afterwards. The droplets ran down Yuuri’s back, slipping like teasing beads over the perfectly shaped derriere that was haunting Victor’s dreams. The muscles flexed and Victor could almost hum a rhythm to the rise and fall of his favorite pair of cheeks. When Yuuri turned to face him, stepping toward the edge of the water, Victor wondered briefly how unsafe it would be to dunk his head into the boiling water.

Then Yuuri decided to stretch and Victor decided that this was the way he was going to die. Accidentally drowning in the onsen while trying to drive the aching need to hold Yuuri’s backside out of his brain. Grabbing a towel, Victor leaned back and covered his eyes, praying for death to take him.

“You alright?” Yuuri asked sliding in next to Victor, misjudging the space between them and partially sitting on Victor’s lap for an awkward millisecond. “Opps! I’m sorry!” scrambling to the other side of the water, Yuuri looked anywhere but Victor.

Under his towel mask, Victor was restraining his need to scream. For a brief moment, that glorious god-made ass had touched his skin and his brain was screeching in high-pitched incoherent Russian about the occurrence. “No harm, no foul!” Victor chirped from under his hiding place, lying through his teeth, because his self-control and sanity had both been harmed and fouled.

“Victor?”

The call from the bathroom was sweetly hesitant and Victor pushed from the bed to move toward the door. “Everything okay, Yuuuri?” Leaning against the wall, Victor waited patiently for the answer.

“I can’t get the zipper up on my own. Would you…” Yuuri paused and Victor lifted an eyebrow toward the still closed bathroom door. When it opened, Victor’s heart dropped out of his body. “Could you zipper it?” Turning around, Yuuri stood in the black costume from Victor’s youth, the tantalizing back zipper laying against the slope of Yuuri’s number one feature.

He had been doing so well, Victor thought regrettably as he pushed from the wall. He hadn’t injured himself due to distracted staring in at least forty eight hours and he had managed not to become dehydrated from drooling in at least a week. Slowly he was building an immunity to Yuuri Katsuki’s butt, and he was quite proud of his own perseverance.

Moving behind Yuuri to reach for the zipper, Victor felt all of his progress disappear in an onslaught of indecent thoughts. The fabric separated right at the curve of Yuuri’s back, the resting place of the hidden zipper giving Victor no choice but to graze his fingers against the holy grail of skaters’ asses. When his skin touched the black fabric, pulled taut over the magnificent mound of holy flesh, Victor sucked his breath in through his teeth. Forcing himself to concentrate, he painstakingly slid the zipper up to close the back of Yuuri’s costume.

Then Yuuri, as the wickedly naive human who he was, decided to bend forward. “Well, I can move in it, so it isn’t too tight,” he stated casually, folding himself in half to grab his own toes. “And it looks alright doesn’t it?”

Staring directly at the perfectly presented ass lined directly in front of Victor’s growing hardness, he whispered, “it’s perfect, never take it off. EVER.”

That night, Victor showered in cold water until his teeth chattered hard enough to give himself a headache.

They had officially been a couple for a little over a week, but Yuuri still escaped to his bed every night, leaving Victor to his daydreams of something more.

“Can I stay here tonight?” There was a nervous tilt to Yuuri’s voice as he anxiously surveyed Victor’s face. “I am… I don’t know… because we leave tomorrow…” Yuuri’s thoughts trailed off as he chewed on his bottom lip.

Dropping his towel on a chair, Victor walked carefully over to the bed. Calmly, he pulled back the sheets and let himself slide in next to his boyfriend. It was warm and welcoming, and Victor felt himself melt as Yuuri curled, cheek down on Victor’s chest. “Nervous?” Victor let his fingertips trace the line of Yuuri’s spine, stuttering to a halt at the waistband of Yuuri’s sleep pants.

“I guess…” The whisper tickled Victor’s skin as Yuuri spoke. “You know…” nervous brown eyes peered up at Victor, “you can touch it.”

“What?” Victor exhaled, pressing his palm flat against the small of Yuuri’s back. It had to be a dream or a massive jump to conclusions for Yuuri to actually be talking about the part Victor wanted to hold the most. He had wanted to get his hands on the butt for months, and his brain was short-circuiting with the possibility of it actually happening.

“I see you staring at it sometimes.” Yuuri was blushing, but he was still holding Victor’s gaze. “I don’t mind if you want to-”

Not letting his boyfriend finish the sentence, Victor shifted Yuuri on top of him and slid both hands down the back of Yuuri’s cotton pants. It’s Week 15 in the NFL and it felt like some teams couldn’t even. Not that I necessarily blame players for phoning it in when there’s no hope of a postseason, 10 days removed from Christmas and with almost nothing left to play for it outside of draft placing, which rewards mediocrity.

I get it. But this week there was some organizational-level incompetency that was utterly mind-blowing.

Of the 14 games played on Sunday, there were a solid seven teams that just couldn’t handle being on the field in any capacity. Today we will celebrate this septuplet of mediocrity for heading to vacation early.

Cincinnati Bengals.

Hate to start it off with a showstopper, but man this was great. The Bengals got off to a hot start thanks to what I can only describe delicately as ... LOL THE PATRIOTS SPOTTED THE BENGALS 13 POINTS TO TRY AND BE ALL LIKE, “SEEEEEEEEE FILMING THEM DID NOOOOTHING!”

Sorry, got away from myself there. Anyway, yeah — I loved this so much. It was just enough of a tantalizing taste that you’d check the score now and then and say, “the Bengals might really do this!” Then halftime happened, Andy Dalton threw a whole bunch of interceptions, and the Patriots cruised to another easy win.

Perhaps the best part of all this was that the Bengals’ collapse started as soon as a few children got steamrolled by mascots at halftime.

Carolina Panthers.

I almost respect the fact there’s zero pretense behind “we have no special interest in winning.” If that’s not the point, then why Kyle Allen is still the quarterback in Carolina is beyond me.

Quarterback purists might say, “well, it’s unfair to throw Will Grier to the wolves in games that don’t matter,” to which I remind them that Grier was selected WITH A THIRD-ROUND PICK and at this point nobody in Carolina is going to hold some bad garbage-time starts against Grier, should his games go poorly.

I mean, you can’t expect Panthers fans to overreact to a few bad games, just as they couldn’t possibly anoint a new franchise QB after three good starts ... right?

Miami Dolphins.

Entering Sunday, Eli Manning was 4-18 in games where he threw three interceptions or more. The Dolphins became No. 5.

Checking out the box score is like one of those Magic Eye paintings of suck. At a quick glance, everything looks relatively fine. Then you stare at it more and you see the horror.

The Dolphins, like a lot of teams this week, decided to just take the second half off. They allowed 29 second-half points and for Manning to likely finish his Giants career at a perfect .500 record. I mean not perfect, but that’s perfectly Eli.

Denver Broncos.

I refuse to believe there’s a logical through line where the Broncos can obliterate the Texans, then only score three points against the Chiefs. Therefore we must believe they simply took the afternoon off.

I feel really badly for Drew Lock. I don’t know what it is about this season but the second you say something good about a quarterback, everything comes tumbling down. It happened to Ryan Tannehill, it happened to Kyle Allen, it happened to Daniel Jones. Now it’s Lock’s turn as the rookie played, well, like a rookie. I am so far past being angry at the Patriots for cheating, because it’s an expected quantity at this point. Instead, what I really appreciate is that they’ve just decided to be brazen about it. It suits them much better than trying to be sneaky.

OK, so let me break this one down so it makes sense. According to the NFL rulebook on coin tosses, a winning team must select one of two “privileges” when it wins:

The opportunity to receive the kickoff, or to kick off.

The choice of goal his team will defend.

But the team also have a third option, which is to defer its choice until the start of the second half. According to the rules, it merely requires the coin toss winner to inform referees of the decisions PRIOR to the second half commencing, and the rules say this is binding.

Here’s how this played out:

Dak Prescott wins the coin toss.

He fumbles through some words, but tells officials he wants the Cowboys to kick, but also that he defers.

The official doesn’t hear Dak defer, so he takes is as the Cowboys are kicking off to start the first half.

This means the Rams would get their pick at the start of the second half, which would have been receiving a second kickoff.

This would have been the first time in NFL history a team received the kickoff to start the game and after halftime. After some deliberation, officials decided at halftime that Prescott did indicate well enough that he intended to defer the pick, so the Rams were forced to kick.

Still one of the weirdest moments of the weekend.

Chapter One: Appetizer

Loki is a single father trying to recover from his devastating divorce. With a new job, and an attentive boyfriend things seem to be turning around. But ghosts from his past are never far from his doorstep.

This is based off an RP between myself and @lash-worthe

It was Loki's first night at his new job, and he was nervous. For a while, everything had seemed to be spinning out of control. His personal life had gone to hell, his wife had turned into someone he didn't even recognize, and only during the divorce proceedings had he found that she had, in several drug hazes, gone through every bit of money they had, destroyed their credit and left them with nothing. Their home, cars, everything was repossessed, and even that didn't pay off everything. The destruction of their credit had cost Loki his job, and, the bankruptcy had left a blemish on his credit record so dark that no traditional 9 to 5 job like he'd had would take him on. In desperation he had finally swallowed his pride and looked into being a server. One of the largest, best, and most expensive restaurants in town had an opening and Loki had managed to interview and get the job, and tonight was his first official night on the job. He smoothed out his uniform once more before going out to tell his children goodnight.

"Now, Fenrir is in charge until I get home. Bed by 9 and I will see you all in the morning." He gently kissed each of his children on the head. "When will you be home?" Fenrir asked, looking up from his video game. "Late. I told you, I have to work until the restaurant is closed. Do not wait up for me Fenrir."

"Papa!" his youngest whined, clinging to his legs. "Helena.. let Papa go to work.." The eldest of his three came over and pulled his sister off their father. Loki leaned down again to kiss his daughter's head, smiling softly at Fenrir. "Please, Helena, listen to Fenrir. Dinner is already made, just put it in the oven for 30 minutes, I'll be home before any of you know it." He grabbed his jacket and eased it out of the door, adding as the door shut behind him, "Good night, I love you all." He trotted down the stairs from their apartment to make the several block walk to the restaurant. It was cold, but there was no money for a car, or for bus fare. There was no money for anything, even food was a challenge to afford. He took a deep breath and tried to focus on the positives.

As he walked he thought about Tony, he wondered what his paramour was up to tonight, and restrained himself from texting the brunette. After some hesitation and heavy consideration, that he had even decided to beginning seeing Tony semi-regularly. Tony seemed to be a very sweet and kind man, and Loki enjoyed their time together. He was taking things fairly slowly, hesitant to mention or introduce Tony to the kids, and telling the children very little about Tony at all, not even his name. Tony didn't seem very fond of children, and that made Loki nervous so he kept his mouth shut about his children.

But otherwise Loki was very fond of Tony. He made Loki feel like a giddy teenager, and at times, they both acted like hormonal, horny teenagers. Though Loki had refrained from having sex with Tony, (he didn't quite feel ready for that yet) that hadn't stopped he and the other man from becoming well acquainted with each others body, usually barely able to keep their hands off of each other and spending most of their dates making out. It was a bit of a rush to be wanted again, to feel desirable again. The crumbling of his marriage had left Loki's self-esteem in the pits, and he was only now beginning to feel like something more than a failure.

He paused outside of the restaurant, taking a few deep breaths before heading inside. His pale cheeks and nose red from the chill outside. He shivered into the warmth of the restaurant. He shook a few glimmers of snow from his coat and cleared his throat, "Ah....Mr. Stark?" Three sets of eyes turned up to greet Loki, one pair he was intimately familiar with, Tony, the other two, judging from the familial appearance related to Tony. The other man's face bloomed into one of a welcoming smile, "Ah! Mr. Ruser! Good to see you again." Loki was trying to not stare at Tony, and he definitely hoped that the elder didn't notice his slight paling at seeing Tony. Loki shook hands with Howard, "Mr. Stark, good evening. I suppose I'll be training tonight, is there anyone that will be training me? Perhaps I should meet them?" "I will be, and we'll have a quick meeting at 4:45 with the rest of the staff so you can meet them then." The woman stood, "Have you eaten yet?" "Oh... no, but I'm fine.." he smiled sheepish and she tsk'd and pushed Loki into the seat she's just abandoned, "Non sense, you look like you haven't eaten in days, you sit here and Tony will fix you up something, there's always one meal on the house here." Howard nodded, "Besides, you can't sell the food if you've never eaten it." Loki tried not to feel shell shocked, but here he was mouth open trying to find a polite turn down, when he could find nothing he nodded, "Tony... what ever you think is best... I trust you." Tony smirked at the comment, but kept everything distant, "Smoked Salmon over a bed of yellow rice with asparagus, hows that sounds? It's the house special." "Sounds amazing." Maria patted Lokis shoulders and kissed Tony and Howard's cheeks, "Good night boys, be good, and good luck!" Tony headed to the kitchen, and when Loki turned back to the table Howard was there talking to him. he barely realized the time pass as Howard was walking him through his expectations of how he wanted Loki to be with customers. There was a moment when the spell was broken when a dish was set down in front of him. The smells were tantalizing, and he felt his stomach lurch in anticipation. "Oh.. this smells amazing." "Well... tell me what you think?" Tony stood off on the side, and slowly Loki ate, and moaned softly, "Oh... god Tony, this is amazing... thank you... this is ... amazing." Tony was beaming and Howard finally had to swat his son with a dish rag, "Get out of here you egotistical prig! Go get the kitchen staff ready!" "Ow! Alright! Alright, I'm going." Loki found himself eating quickly, enjoying the first real meal in a few days, he hadn't eaten in a few days in order to make sure his children were fed, and the meals he did get were when Loki and Tony had gone out. He found himself more focused on the meal and didn't hear much of what Howard said. Howard finally left him, "when you're done eating, put your dishes in the sink and meet me by the front bar." Loki nodded and continued to eat, when he finished and was resisting the urge to lick the plate clean. He sighed and finally stood and went further into the kitchen, "The dishes go here?" Tony's head popped head out from under a hood, "Yup that's the place." He smiled, "Good, that was wonderful Tony." "Thanks, I've been wanting to cook for you for a while, just... we seem to keep missing each other." Loki fiddled with a fork, "Well all you had to do was ask." "I have, but we seem to keep missing each other, and you always decline when I ask you to come over for dinner." "It... it's hard to get out in the evening. You could cook lunch or breakfast too." "Yeah, but those don't have the same kind of ambiance I'm trying to go for," he looked over his shoulder back towards the front of the restaurant and then added, "And I'll be a good boy I swear, dad wont know anything." Loki offered a smile, "I trust you Tony." Tony went to open his mouth, but Howard's thunderous voice ricocheted around the kitchen, "Anthony Edward Stark!" Tony twitched, "Jesus fuck dad, I'm 35, not 15, can you please STOP doing that!" As the two men bickered, a lithe blonde walked up beside Loki, "You must be the new guy Mr. Stark was telling us about." Loki jumped faintly but offered an easy smile as she realized her posture was open and welcoming, "Yes.. that would be me. I'm Loki, you are?" "Mikel," she guided Loki out of the kitchen and towards the front, "Don't worry about them, they're always yelling at each other, I think it's one of those dysfunctional, functional family things." Loki laughed, "I'll keep that in mind." After a few moments Howard and Tony joined the wait staff in the front, Howard talked about what to expect with the days crowds, and then Tony covered the house specials and a few notes he wanted to cover about the regular menu. With a clap, Howard said enthusiastically, "Alright people, lets go out there and have a good night, we've already got customers at the door. Loki, you're with me." Loki nodded and joined the older Stark accepting a note book he provided. Together they worked the floor, and eventually Howard let Loki work the last two hours of the night by himself. The elder Stark clapping his new employee on the shoulder, "You're doing great, the customers love you, if you need anything I'll be in the kitchen." "Thank you Mr. Stark." "Keep it up." Loki smiled thankfully and moved through the night with skill and ease. Right as door closed to the customers, Howard bid everyone good night, and left Tony to close everything up. Once the last customers were out of the restaurant Loki joined the rest of the staff with cleaning up, wiping up tables, busing dishes to the kitchen, and general cleaning tasks. Almost 45 minutes later Tony stuck his head out of the office door calling out, "Alright folks, come get your tips!" Then he called each staff member by their name, and Loki just smiled a small secretive smile as Tony saved his name for last. He bid Mikel goodnight as she walked from the store and then slipped into the office. He met Tony's smile and leaned against the desk as tony asked, "So, how was your first night?" "Busy, but I like it, the staff is friendly." "Yeah, good, as much as Dad can be a grouch, he's good at HR, always picks good eggs to work here. Also, you're tips." Loki took the small collection of bills and tucked it into his pockets, "You run a well managed restaurant." Tony laughed, "Thanks, learned from the best, I practically lived here since I could walk." "It shows," he pushed off the desk and back to his feet, "Well, I should be getting home." Tony reached out and grabbed his hand, "Hey, when are you working?" "Hum?" he had to fish around for his phone to find his schedule, "I am working 4 days, counting tonight, Tomorrow, Friday and Sunday." "I'm not working until dinner tomorrow, want to get lunch tomorrow?" Loki considered before nodding, "Yes, I can do that. Where would you like to meet." "My place? I'll cook." A small laugh escaped, "You really want to cook before you have to coming into work and cook?" "Surprise! I actually like my job." Tony was smiling with excitement, "If I could spend all day in a kitchen I would, and if I get to cook for people I like? Talk about icing on the cake!" Loki laughed to himself as Tony stood and locked up the safe and pulled on his jacket, "Well then we will have lunch." "Perfect." Tony leaned in and place a soft, chaste kiss to Loki's cheek, "Until tomorrow." "Tomorrow." Loki promised and went to grab his jacket and headed out to make the long walk home.

The scene Loki walked into was, was not what he had anticipate upon getting home. His eldest was trying to drag his youngest to her bedroom, and his middle was sitting on the couch reading. "NO! I wanted to wait for papa!" "Helena! You have to go bed!" As soon as everyone registered that he was home, Helena wiggled from Fenrir's grip and tackled his shins. He sighed, "Helena, bed was two hours ago." "I wanted to wait for you." "Darling, you can't do this, you have school tomorrow." "But I wanted you to kiss me goodnight." He picked his daughter up and walked her to her room, he tucked her in bed and kissed her forehead, "Sleep, I'll see you in the morning." She gave him a kiss in return and with lights out, she was quickly passed out. He exited her room to find his two sons climbing into bed, he followed after them to kiss them both goodnight as well. As he sat on his eldest's bed the boy started to apologize. Loki hushed him, "Sleep Fenrir, I'm not mad. Thank you for your help." The mollified the boy who relaxed as Loki stood, "Goodnight papa." "Good night Fenrir, Jeorge, sleep well." he leaned over to kiss his middle child who gave a soft yawn and hugged his neck before rolling over to sleep. Loki backed out of the shared room and turned off the lights, he closed the door and found himself sighing and resting his head against the door. Things had to get better.. at least now he had a job. As long as he didn't handsy with Tony, or Tony with him, there wouldn't be any reason Howard would want to fire him. He could start saving up, maybe afford a car, but... he still had to pay all those bills. He turned to go his room and went to shower before flopping in bed. And for the first time in a few weeks, the stress of his situation didn't keep him awake.

In Chicago, where 100,000 manufacturing jobs have disappeared since 1970, companies who still actually make things have been given sanctuary in “Planned Manufacturing Districts.” In one such district, the North Branch Industrial Corridor, A. Finkl & Sons’ steel mill has become part cutting-edge manufacturer and part amusement park attraction, an ongoing, theatrical revival of Chicago’s past. Family owned and operated on the same site since 1870, Finkl’s may hold over 100 U.S. patents, but as steel mills go, it is so small and specialized as to be quaint. Their specialty is the Vacuum Arc De-gassing Process, a way of making steel in a virtual vacuum pressurized to 1/15,000 of normal air pressure and heated to 2,800º Fahrenheit. The furnace allows molten steel to be held at perfect teeming temperature while its chemistry is adjusted, its impurities being literally sucked out by the vacuum process.

In recent years Finkl’s has found itself amidst the gentrification of nearby Clybourn Avenue, now boasting as neighbors the Bossa Nova Restaurant (latin dinner and dancing); Whiskey River (country music and line dancing); Blockbuster Video (we have Forrest Gump!); Pet Care (50 lb. sacks of kitty litter); Kroch’s and Brentano’s (retail books); House of Teak (furniture and stuff); Pier One Imports (more stuff); Batter Up Arcade (restrooms for customers only); White Hen Pantry (24 hour ice cream and Oreos); Starbuck’s (today’s flavor: Guatemalan); and a Sony Octoplex (the same eight movies playing at the mall near you).

This story, of industry giving way to random shopping and miniature golf, could be told throughout America. What has distinguished Finkl’s is its willingness to bond with its consumer-oriented neighbors, simultaneously discovering—perhaps unwittingly—its own entertainment value. Finkl’s seems to have realized that the sheer novelty of its operation might benefit the company as much as the quality of its steel, and so, with the city’s blessing, the mill closed off one block of Southport Avenue, constructed ten meter-high steel archways at each end like and amusement park, and installed park benches, fir trees and seasonal flowers. The promenade was officially inaugurated with an open house and barbecue that included live music, A. Finkl & Sons merchandise, and the unveiling of a retired six-ton steamhammer and rotary saw asmonuments. Now after Die Hard III—Die Hard With a Vengeance lets out around midnight, and after the Riptide and the Blue Note close at 4 a.m., people go by Finkl’s to see if the melting room is open or if any ingots are aglow in the cooling yard.

Certainly the initial appeal of Finkl’s is that its melting room shares much with the chromatic range and machinery of action movies, the most appealing gimmick of the latter being human figures hurtling in slow motion from an exploding fire ball, their flailing bodies silhouetted against the bulging and expanding flames. The combination of passive inevitability (the body hurtling and falling to earth) and calculated success (the bomb has worked!) is compelling: you can identify with either or both. The melting room of Finkl’s provides a similar fantasy, involving the look of danger (molten steel) and awe of precision (finished steel). Seeing those colors and that scale relaxes us into our cinema mode. It’s cool, and entertaining, so we watch whether we know anything about steel manufacturing or not.

Finkl’s process also shares a kind of mystery with the production of action movies. Part of the appeal of such cinematic bomb blasts and elevator shaft rescues is the filmmakers’ ability to rehearse and edit these scenes to the point where they seem spontaneous. And just as Hollywood’s harnesses and stunt booms are invisible to us, so are Finkl’s controls. All we see through the vista of the melting room doors are silver-clad men against a cascade of molten metal and orange smoke, a scene which seems just as tantalizing as Backdraft or Terminator 2. The difference—and fascination—is that, however routine, Finkl Steel is spontaneous, and real.

Which is not to say that larger-than-life metal forging is heroic, merely that it is skilled. However visually stunning, steelmaking is most impressive when you are standing next to an orange-hot, coffin-sized cylinder of metal sizzling in the evening rain, its heat emanating through your clothes, its form made indistinct by the clash of the 1400º stainless steel and 40ª night air. Ultimately Finkl’s most profound attraction is that such obvious labor is utterly unfamiliar to we 100,000 artists, restaurant managers, and alternative rock bands who have replaced all those lost factory workers. To us, steelmaking seems no less contrived than a Civil War battle reenactment, no less anachronistic than colonial Williamsburg. For us, Finkl’s is as much theatre as it is manufacturing, a theme park based on the Modern era, one that, like the smithy at Williamsburg, Virginia, happens to sell what it turns out.

In the end, however, my fascination with A. Finkl & Sons isn’t of much use since, like heroism, it is the product of ignorance. De Tocqueville speculated that “if men were ever to content themselves with material objects, it is probable that they would lose by degrees the art of producing them; and they would enjoy them in the end like the brutes, without discernment and without improvement.” Fresh from the movies or the strip mall, with a copy of Red Desert on the front seat of the car and 50 points of kitty litter in the trunk, it makes no difference to me whether A. Finkl & Sons makes good steel or not.

On shipping (or not shipping) Sheith:

Stop pointing out the brother’s line in S2E08 as a way to gloat about the “death” of a ship.

I don’t care who you are. I don’t care what you ship. But I do care about the fact that you’re trying to shove your beliefs and interpretations down everyone’s throats when there are, in fact, still other ways to look at the situation.

I’m going to clarify this with: I do not ship Sheith. I never have, and I probably never will. But I can see why people do, and I understand that part of being a fandom is respecting everyone and their own ships.

Now, that said, let’s move on to discuss why I say this, why I would defend something I can’t ship (gasp, is this tolerance?!) and why I urge you to stop attacking each other and arguing when this is a show that isn’t focused on romance and a show in which there are no current canon pairings, except for Sam and Colleen Holt and subtle hints at Hunk and Shay.

It means that I 100%, wholeheartedly accept that he truly feels that Shiro is his brother. Keith Kogane is not the kind of person that would say something he didn’t mean, and in the moment when he tells Fake-Shiro that he’s like a brother, Keith believes it with all his heart, and it’s hard for him to say.

Respect how he feels.

In that instant, Keith believes that Shiro is like a brother to him, yes.

But this doesn’t mean it can’t lead to more later.

Keith thinks of Shiro as his brother, but he also seems to have little experience with family that stays, so he’s afraid of being attached because he’s afraid that Shiro will just leave, like his mother and ultimately, like I think his father did. He’s scared to acknowledge how much Shiro really means to him.

So, from a Sheith fan’s perspective, this isn’t the death of the ship. From my perspective, it’s still not the death of a ship. What it is, however, is a tantalizing taste of something more. It’s acknowledgement that, at this point in time, Shiro is the closest person to Keith. And it’s absolutely true.

It’s how Keith feels in that moment; he’s pure, he’s vulnerable, and he’s afraid of being left alone again.

Respect that he feels this way - this is for antis and fans of the ship alike.

2. Think about the possibilities.

After talking about how Keith feels, you have to consider what comes next.

Some people are blatantly throwing that scene around and declaring it as the end. Celebrating it. And this is what I hate about fandom. This is both an absolutely disgusting display of entitlement and an incredibly rude attitude towards anyone whose views do not align with theirs.

But consider the numerous possibilities.

Consider the slow realization that Shiro means more to him than a brother. The realization that Shiro is his family, but not just because they’re close. Consider Keith coming to terms with the fact that his feelings are more than platonic or familial, and learning to accept the idea of romantic love into his life for the first time.

Consider that.

I don’t care if you’re not a Sheith shipper. Consider it from and outsider’s point of view if you must. Consider how it may have happened in other series or stories you’ve watched or read. Consider just the misinterpretation of brotherly affection, how Keith didn’t realize how much he really loved Shiro until faced with, say, his disappearance?

Do not blame or attack or shame when you haven’t even considered the natural progression, the idea of love, the blossoming of warmth and hope and affection in his chest when he realizes that there’s something more.

Shiro is a brother to him now, but feelings wax and wane and there is nothing stopping a fan creator, whether they are an artist or a writer or a gifmaker, from exploring those varying factors.

3. Remember that a fandom is a community, and hatred divides us all.

I am not stopping you. I am not stopping them. They are not stopping me. So what right do you have to try to stop them?

This ship hate is divisive. It eats away at the fandom from the inside, creating something grotesque and vile, sending tendrils of poison into even the most inconspicuous corners of the fandom.

This needs to stop.

You are not better than anyone here.

I don’t care what you think, but your ships are not better than mine. My ships are not better than yours. Someone who ships your notp is not in the wrong. Your opinions do not trump theirs, and it is wrong on every level to try forcing your ships on people.

Stop gloating.

I don’t care how many “moments” your ship got. Don’t rub it in someone’s face just because you think it directly contradicts their beliefs, or their ship.

If you’re doing this, you are what’s wrong with fandom.

Practice tolerance. Use blacklisting. Try to have civil conversations about why or why not you like what you do, and why they don’t.

Do whatever makes the fandom a comfortable place for you, within reason. This does NOT include making rude comments about other ships, or other people who like them.

4. Discourse.

Discourse.

This fandom has so much of it, it’s sickening. But it happens with every fandom at some point or another, when so many people with differing opinions come into the picture. Especially when we have younger generations, who feel so entitled to their opinions and who were raised to believe that they can say or do whatever they want, mixed in with older generations who have been here since the original, who think they’re schooling the younger kids when they’re only making it worse.

But my remarks on the discourse are simple:

AGES:

For months, all official sources still said five teens, even after that video fiasco and a few interviews. I choose to believe the official printed sources over things that may have been said in the moment or under duress. Which is why I also do not take the rough ages given by the voice actors recently as fact.

And I will write them at whichever ages I please, because THIS IS WHAT FANFICTION IS FOR.

SHIPS:

I don’t care which ones you ship and which you don’t. You’re free to them, because it’s your decision.

But stop spreading hate to those who don’t ship what you ship.

I ship Shidge. Have you seen me blaspheming and hating on everyone who doesn’t agree? But because of fandom mentality, and the disgusting pack approach of some antis, I haven’t publicized it very much. In fact, I tricked myself into believing that I shipped Klance more because of how much hatred I had seen.

Someone shouldn’t be afraid to tell someone about a ship they like, or to admit that they don’t like a ship.

Stop making this an environment where people feel safer to keep their ships to themselves.

Stop the hate.

Stop the fighting.

Stop trying to shove your beliefs and ships into everyone’s faces.

Stop.

This is our fandom.

We are all trying to show our love for the series in our own ways.

TOGETHER.

We may not always agree, we may not see eye to eye, but the key to progress is patience and tolerance and above all, the ability to see that there really is a person behind the profile you’re attacking.

They have feelings. They have beliefs. They have a story that you know nothing about. And all of these make up who they are and how they view the world.

They’re going to be different from you. Everyone is.

In order to become a better person, a better member of fandom society as a whole, you have to be able to see that

And a final note: Don’t make Space Dad sad. Wherever he is, he would want us all to get along.
