your orchids are so cool! can we see the entire collection?
I will ABSOLUTELY show more photos of my current hyperfixation, ehehehe, thank you so much! <3 I've moved the cattleya to my eastern windowsill and my dendrobium nobile is chilling in the place of honor on the kitchen counter where my biggest bloomer at any given point in time goes, and one of my violets is also in my bedroom for some pizzazz, but the rest of the orchids and violets/streps are on this plant shelf!
She's a bit tall, so I've added the dendrobium nobile (Angel Moon 'Love Letter,' lovely but mild fragrance!) side by side to avoid stretching the dash too much, haha. I have it lit with Barrina LED lights on timers, and they have a super cozy glow, don't let my camera auto-editing the lighting to be so stark fool you.
The top row is hard to get a good zoomed out pic of because the Oncostele Red Silk 'HOF' flower spike is so damn tall, so I've cut it out of the pic since it's not blooming yet - but soon! This is where I try to keep all my currently-blooming flowers, and the oncidium takes up a ton of space at the moment... and as you may be able to see, the yellow and harlequin phalaenopsis are soon to be losing their blooms! They're both growing new leaves and roots at the moment, and the yellow phal actually has been in bloom on the same spikes for 9 months straight, which is absolutely insane. They're both no ID grocery store plants, which tend to be bred for really prolific blooms!
The second row is currently housing my blooming violet and strep, as well as my two smaller non-blooming streps. The bottom left one is actually a mini, so it will be staying in that small pot forever! One of the huge pros of violets for me is that they don't really exceed a 4" flower pot size ever, no matter if you've had them ten months or ten years.
The mini strep is Fernwood's Silhouette, the larger one is DS Riushele (google this one, the blooms are a deep purple and super frilly!), the violet is Frosty Cherry, and the far right strep is Bristol's Mascara!
The bottom row is where I try to keep my currently non-blooming orchids, but the little rescue I found at the store with most of the flower spike snapped off and one measly (and super pretty) flower left made it down there as well for lack of space, haha.
The tallest plant here is a Dancing Lady oncidium orchid that has an amazing and strong fragrance. It used to be in my kitchen and filled the whole kitchen area with its scent in the mornings! The smallest orchid in the clear pot is actually one I kidnapped (with permission) from my program director's office to rehab it, lol. I'll be giving it back once it puts out another flower spike. The big pot on the bottom right has a pure white phalaenopsis that's currently growing a new flower spike for the third time in my care, and it's a flower that my mom gave me, so it holds a special place in my heart!
Then the very top left tiny phalaenopsis orchid is just a little purple grocery store mini that had almost no roots left for a long time. It's flowered twice in my care before I messed up its roots trying to separate it from being double-potted, so I'm very proud that it's now growing a new leaf. And lastly the two violets are Cajun's Queen's Lace (left) and PT Wild Plum (right, post plant surgery).
And that's the orchids and violets! :D I actually have, uh. Checks watch. 41 plants including hoyas, nerve plants, a fiddle leaf fig, and a pothos, not to mention the aquarium garden and the edible patio plants, so this isn't actually all of them, but the rest are elsewhere in the house and aside from the ones I mentioned in the first paragraph aren't in the orchid/violet category!
#ask#personal#Anonymous#dear diary#plantblogging#long post#orchids#african violets#streptocarpus#I! Love!! Plants!!!!#I spent many years for some reason thinking flowers were super hard and I could never grow one or get it to reflower#so now I think I'm compensating in the other direction LOL#despite the number of them they're honestly not a very high maintenance hobby which is why I feel it's great for residency#I pay them more attention than I strictly need to tbh#my outside plants are more stressful#I miss watering for more than one day and they WILL fry#and I had to murder another fucking grasshopper today because those bitches love to go ham on my basil#GO AWAY THAT'S FOR ME TO EAT NOT YOU#luckily it didn't have wings yet and faced the wrath of my broom#(ps. sorry to my neighbors for the muffled terrified swearing when it jumped in my direction)

5 tips for running a social media burner account as an athlete
Photo Illustration by Omar Marques/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images
It’s not difficult to run a good burner, if you follow these tips.
Hello, my name is James Dator. I last spoke to you in 2018 about how to run a burner Twitter account, but much about the social media landscape has changed since then. It’s time now to revisit how you, an elite athlete, should run your burner on Twitter to defend your honor, and most-importantly: Not get caught in the process.
First, some personal news, I regret to inform everyone that Matt Ellentuck will not be with me to recommend social media guidelines at this time. Unfortunately he is no longer here at SB Nation, but can still be followed at @mellentuck, where he is currently getting into beef with WNBA teams. Now, without further ado, onto the tips.
No. 1: Pick a good username.
This week we were introduced to the latest potential athlete burner: @jayce_frost, which is purported to be an account used by Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. It goes without saying, but this is a terrible username.
Nobody in the history of humanity has had the name “Jayce Frost” with any semblance of realism. There are only two kinds of people who can pull off this name.
Actors in the adult film industry.
A super villain trying to push the sun away from the earth to start another ice age.
If you’re intent on going the full name route you need to pick something commonplace, but not too obvious. This means no @johnsmith, but instead something like @derrickmclellan. Everyone believes there are dudes named Derrick McLellan wandering around a Lowe’s home improvement in Augusta, Georgia looking for a 4 3/8ths roofing nail. In fact, there are probably 15 Derrick McLellan’s doing that as we speak.
If you instead decide to go the route of “generic sports fan,” pick a team OTHER than the one you’re defending. In Carr’s case the perfect foil would be @KCChiefs_83. It reeks of a 37-year-old NFL fan, not a current quarterback.
No. 2: Don’t have a one tract mind when it comes to tweeting.
This is where Carr really messed up. Every single tweet from Jayce Frost was either defending Carr, or talking about his alma mater, Fresno State.
So @TJFsports found Derek Carr’s burner today. It’s since been deleted - was @jayce_frost - but thanks to https://t.co/BOCMFbvfLE we can still find gems like this pic.twitter.com/mSTi3XrHFV
— Bird Law Expert (@RealBirdLawyer) August 5, 2020
2. The account deactivating within MINUTES of me posting the first tweet makes me think I was correct and he panicked and 3. this tweet reads a little weird if it's one of his brothers but makes sense if it's him pic.twitter.com/PDvaB2prVq
— Tom (@TJFsports) August 5, 2020
This is a rookie mistake. In order to successfully run a burner you need to give the semblance of a real person. Post some food pics, grab a generic shot of a dog, sprinkle in everything required to sound like a real human whose entire existence doesn’t center on Derek Carr.
Which leads us to tip three ...
No. 3: Diversify your sports takes.
This requires skill and finesse, and may take some practice. In this case we’ll again assume the identity of @KCChiefs_83. Firstly, think in your character. What does @KCChiefs_83 care about? The Chiefs, obviously. So reply to some of their tweets with the following:
“My Chiefs looking goooood this year!” “Hell yeah those boys are ready!” “Mahomes HoF lock ALREADY.” “Nobody stands a chance against my Chiefs.”
NOW you’ve established a base, so when you see a Raiders fan talking trash about Derek Carr being terrible, you can really defend with a semblance of honor, saying:
“I HATE the Raiders, but y’all are crazy to give up on Carr.” “I’d MUCH rather see Mariota than Carr. So go for it lol.” “I’m a Chiefs fan, but seriously Carr gives you the best chance to win.”
You have a right to defend your athletic honor, but do it intelligently. This is the key to running a burner effectively.
No. 4: Always look for plausible deniability.
At some point someone will accuse you of being a burner. It comes with the territory. So be proactive and pre-schedule some tweets to happen during Raiders games. These can be simple, effective and vague.
“GOOD STOP!” “THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!”
Things of that nature. Schedule them during the middle of the second quarter of a Raiders game, so if anyone dives in they’ll see these tweets and be like “well, the Raiders were playing — so it can’t be Derek Carr.” Then you can chuckle for a job well done.
No. 5: Don’t volume tweet.
The final tip is to pick your spots. Don’t spend all day talking about a single player or team. The bulk of your burner time will be building the persona. When it comes time to defend a player go after a big account and reply.
Wait under Adam Schefter talks about there being doubts about the Raiders’ QB situation, then dive in to get maximum exposure. Remember to front that you’re a fan of another team, and then you will start to gain some traction.
I believe in you athletes, you can do this — just follow these simple rules.

10/1/20 Fact or Fiction
Statement #1: Following in the footsteps of New Japan’s successful back-to-back WrestleKingdom shows at the Tokyo Dome last weekend, the WWE should start doing two nights of Wrestlemania. FICTION - Putting aside how the last few WMs feel like they last an entire weekend already, there’s a simple reason why a WM should not be split over two nights: last year TakeOver was on the Friday, the HoF on the Saturday and WM on the Sunday – which means that, if they were to split WM over two nights, at some point two of their own shows would be directly competing with one another, and can you imagine the embarrassment for WWE if the crowd left the HoF partway through so they’d be in their seats in time for WM’s pre-show?
Statement #2: Kazuchika Okada matches in NJPW are too long. FICTION – If you were to use cold, unfeeling logic the only conclusion you could reach is that Okada’s matches are long, after all he wrestled 75 minutes across both nights of Wrestle Kingdom so the logical answer would be that Okada’s matches are too long…but while that may be technically correct it also misses the point entirely. For the best example of what I’m getting at, look no further than the Royal Rumble: every year the match lasts an hour plus change, so that means that the Rumble is too long, right? Well that’s the thing, some years the Rumble just fly by (such as 2001, 2004…awkwardly, or 2018) while other years it’s glacially slow and never seems to end, for example 2012 or the grim death march towards the inevitable conclusion that was 2015. And that’s why Okada’s matches aren’t “too long”, because while they’re usually 30+ minutes they make the most of those 30+ minutes to draw in those watching and the match builds and builds to make the last few minutes something utterly captivating, while in comparison the Epic Triple H Match™ we get every WrestleMania last 20-25 minutes, so on paper they’re shorter than any Okada match, but bloody hell do they drag on almost as long as this answer has.
Statement #3: ROH is going to make a critical and economic comeback in 2020. FICTION – I want them to, really I do, as I’ve been following the company ever since I first stumbled across it on The Wrestling Channel sixteen years ago, but while the company have been promising Big Things for 2020 for the last month or so the issues that came to a head in 2019 aren’t something that happened overnight as the WWE tribalists blaming AEW for everything will have you believe, but the result of the rot setting in years earlier, and as a result ROH’s fortunes for the last couple of years have been a classic case if disaster dominoes: in 2015-16 they lost midcarders like Ciampa, Alexander and Moose as they’d grown tired of their directionless booking, then in early 2017 Cole, O’Reilly and Fish (aka most of their uppercard) signed with NXT, yet rather than having talent ready to step into the void as happened when Punk, Joe, Danielson et al left instead there was a gaping hole. If the company put together a long-term plan in 2017 the bleed could have stopped, but instead one short-term fix after another was tried as the departures continued, coupled with an apparent disconnect between booking and management judging by some of the stuff Joey Mercury’s tweeted recently, and there’s only so many times you can rearrange the deckchairs on the Titanic before you realise your feet are getting wet.
Statement #4: Most wrestling fans are generally dorks. Wrestling fans have the same problem that a lot of gamers do: what were once playground arguments of Mario vs Sonic or Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat have mutated into Nintendo fanboys DDOSing Jim Sterling’s site for the crime of him not giving Breath of the Wild a 10/10 score, while with wrestling fans what was a playground arguments about who was better out of Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels has become every AEW article on this site being flooded with comments from the WWE Attack Squad which leave me wondering if Cody Rhodes broke into their homes, spanked them with a handful of stinging nettles, took a photo of the end result before setting that photo as their Twitter profile pic. Seriously, give it a rest, because the Ringside Confessions feed on Tumblr is less embarrassing for wrestling fans than seeing a bunch of people go Paulie Walnuts several times a day. If I’m capable of watching New Japan, AEW, ROH and NXT without once engaging in an argument with myself, and that’s an impressive feat considering I’ve won the award of 411mania’s Most Argumentative Poster four years running, then how is it some wrestling fans think that they are only allowed to like one company and anyone who likes another is simply wrong…and if they do, are they equally committed to other brands in their life to the point they spew indignant rage at people who bought a different brand of washing machine?
Statement #5: KENTA is awesome again. FACT - While I absolutely do not agree with him crashing Naito's big moment at WK, as that could have been saved for New Year's Dash, KENTA has certainly regained what WWE systematically stripped away since joining NJPW, and more than anything else the fact he's been able to stay injury-free has gone a long way to helping him regain his KENTAness
Statement #6: You’re excited for NXT UK Takeover – Blackpool II. On paper the card looks good, but the biggest positive about NXT and NXT UK is that the shows deliver on what the cards promise rather than promise the earth only to give a handful of soggy soil that frequently happens with main roster shows
QUICK HITS
1. The breakout star of NXT in 2020 will be Cameron Grimes. FICTION – It’s probably wishful thinking on my part, but I can see Isaiah Scott breaking out big time in 2020.
2. Tetsuya Naito will remain IWGP Heavyweight Champion for at least one year. FACT – While the best chance to make Naito an Ace was in 2018, only for NJPW to throw that away as they wanted Okada breaking records instead, I do think that NJPW will give Naito a lengthy reign to build to the inevitable rematch with Okada at next year’s WK.

The World’s Best Restaurants: 2019
(Bloomberg) — Mirazur in Menton, France, is the No. 1 restaurant in the world.
This is the first time chef Mauro Colagreco and his sunny Provencal dining room have clinched the top spot; previously the restaurant was No. 3. This is also the first time France has gotten the No. 1 spot since the awards began 18 years ago.
That’s in part because executives behind the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list made a profound change to the rules this year, decreeing that no previous winner can be No. 1 again—or even be ranked on the list.
Previous winners have now been relegated to a “Best of the Best” category. That includes Osteria Francescana, Massimo Bottura’s modernist restaurant in Modena, which has won the award twice; Eleven Madison Park, which took the top spot in 2017; El Cellar de Can Roca; and the original Noma.
But the 2.0 version of Noma, which is set in a different location in Copenhagen with a new menu format, is eligible for the top spot and in fact skyrocketed to the No. 2 place on the list. William Drew, group editor of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, says the criteria they used, which included location and menu concept, was not just to allow Noma, one of the world’s highest-profile dining spots, to be in contention. “The aim is to have an objective set of criteria that prevails over time,” he says. Leading up to the announcement, which took place in Singapore on the evening of June 25 before an audience, Noma was an insider favorite to clinch the top spot.
The Best of the Best is a convenient landing place for some formerly top-ranked restaurants that have been falling on the list, like the Fat Duck in Bray, England, which last year came in at No. 74. Nonetheless, chef/owner Heston Blumenthal is sanguine about the experience: “If you get on the list, lap it up, bathe in the warmth of it, but just do your work. Nothing is permanent.”
Mirazur sits at the foot of a mountain and is housed in a 1930s building looking out over the sea, just inside France’s border with Italy. The Argentine-born chef draws inspiration from the region, serving vegetables from his own gardens and other local produce to create colorful Mediterranean dishes. Colagreco’s signature creation is oyster with tapioca, shallot cream and pear. The lunch menu costs 160 euros ($180), while the full menu is 260 euros.
“What a great year. Three Michelin stars and No. 1 all in the same year,” said Colagreco while accepting the award. “It’s a year I shall remember forever. I don’t have words to explain. I own the sky!”
He says the next step after basking in the awards is to expand his “little” 5-acre gardens into something greater. “We are fantastic producers, winemakers—we are a little paradise. Our vision is to share and to try to give love and to live happily with our work. It is a simple vision, but it is a vision of life.”
The World’s 50 Best committee also announced that it is highlighting diversity in advance of the ceremony. According to the website, voters are asked to “take issues of representation and reputation into consideration with their choices.”
This year, the list was also expanded from 100 to 120 to coincide with the list’s leading sponsor, San Pellegrino, celebrating its 120th anniversary. It’s a “one-off” expansion, according to Drew.
The restaurants appearing on the list from 51-120 were released ahead of time. That half of the list included restaurants from 25 countries, which demonstrates one good reason to expand the list, advertiser anniversaries notwithstanding. The expansion also makes it easier to highlight restaurants in cities that haven’t caught the 50 Best’s attention before, like Alcade in Guadalajara, Mexico (109 on the list). “We embraced the opportunity to showcase an even more diverse range of restaurants,” says Drew.
A lot of the buzz around the awards are the drops—and this was a year that saw more dramatic movement than usual. Besides Noma, Atelier Crenn in San Francisco entered the list at No. 35, and The Chairman, a Cantonese spot with dishes like flowery crab with aged Chinese wine, was another new entry at No. 41. The host city, Singapore, cracked the top 20: The elegant Odette moved up to No. 18.
Among the notable demotions on the list was Attica in Melbourne, which fell an astonishing 64 spots, to No. 84 from 20. Also eyebrow-raising were perennial favorites Arzak in San Sebastian, Spain, to No. 53 from 31, and D.O.M. in Sao Paulo, which fell to No. 54 from 30.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is organized and compiled by William Reed Business Media. It is created from the votes of 1,040 restaurateurs, chefs, food writers and foodies. The voters are split into 26 separate regions around the world. Each region has its own panel of 40 members. (Vines formerly chaired the U.K. and Ireland panel; he is no longer involved.) The awards started in 2002 as a feature in Restaurant, a U.K. publication, based on the picks of journalists and chefs. The founders compare it to a music magazine compiling a best-albums list.
Ahead of Tuesday evening’s ceremony, three awards were announced: Daniela Soto-Innes, of Cosme in New York, won Elit Vodka World’s Best Female Chef; the American Express Icon Award went to the humanitarian chef José Andrés; and Lido 84, a locally focused restaurant in Lombardy, Italy, won the Miele One to Watch.

Tagebuch: Münstercamp, viel Arbeit und wenig Schlaf
Montag, 10. Februar 2020

Dringende.
