(...)her transformation into a human body is often interpreted as an act of violence itself. (In general, any movement between fiction and reality, in either direction, is treated with an undertone of terror.)
#.img#art#this isnt. well its not groundbreaking. but i would not be free of the concept unless i got it out of me so. whatevs#3dwiscr#3d workers island#3dwi.scr

why IS amber the subject of the abuse?
my girlfriend pointed out the fact that looking at the character sheet, we can clearly see the similarities between kids and parents
rebecca and joe have grace and share their obvious dark skin and hair features, while pat shares the pale skin and blonde hair with holland. amber distinctly stands out, having tanner skin and red-ish hair, but amber is clearly also pat's daughter since PL refers to her as such
(plus another instance of PL disliking/judging amber)
so, what happened?
i think the reason amber is the one to recieve all of the abuse is because amber is the result of an affair and very clearly so.
it solves the question of "if these are two sets of parents and kids, why are the two families living in the same house?"
i think, metaphorically, we are seeing a situation of abuse happening from the outside (it seems to be the biggest theme of the story, the witnessing of abuse from the outside and how we react to it) and so the island is occupied by the people involved. the two families live in the same house because of amber.
as a side note i also think the affair that resulted in amber happened between rebecca and pat. knowing tony's tendencies to play with gender (like paul = care being just a fact regardless of the interpretation people get at as to how that is like trans paul HC) i dont thinj the gender matters here, just the fact that amber might be a mixed race child and we see pat and rebecca interacting regularly
and also this
please get a room.

Trying to get people into Petscop and 3D Workers Island like “no you don’t get it, it’s so good because it’s so sad. like it’s really really sad, you’ll feel so bad and unsettled, it’s great”

3dwi.scr character card analysis
while re-reading 3dwsi.scr, i realized that the character card we are provided isn't exactly... normal. i also thought it would be fun to post this as a neat little analysis and for me and others to reference when drawing these guys!
pat is in the normal angle, but where her bangs are long enough to cover where her eyes would be. this could be a symbol of pat turning a blind eye to amber's abuse, her enabling of such, and ignorance about how much it's hurting amber.
rebecca's body is facing the right way, but her head isn't. she is looking directly at you, the viewer. (when i caught this, i was honestly spooked.) you can tell by the lighting. i'm not exactly sure what this signifies beyond this being a display of self-awareness, but it may just be that.
joe is at the normal angle and, at first, appears to be normal. but his sleeves are incredibly uneven. his right arm has a long sleeve, while his left is short and reveals a bracelet. i'm still not sure if this is a regular accessory or not, but if we are to believe that he's with rebecca, it may be an engagement bracelet. as for the symbol on his hat... idek
amber is slightly hunched over in the normal angle. the only other detail of note that comes to mind is that her skin matches with Stage 0 of GoodKid's made up disease, Cutilacunae. i thought her skin looked somewhat reddish throughout, and i believe it's a nod to that. also, seemingly not as interesting, she is the only character with tied hair.
holland is at the normal angle, and i honestly thought she was normal for the longest until i realized her skin is slightly grey for whatever reason. pat's skin is kind of like this, but much lighter and less noticeable, so i think this is just a case of genetics. other than that, she's fairly normal with no irregularities to be seen.
grace is not facing the viewer, ever, throughout the whole story. she is still angled to the left though. she is also the only other character besides pat to have hair going over her face, in this case completely obscuring where her facial features would be. she's also much taller than the other 2 kids, which made me think she was an adult for a while. this could make her connected to GoodKid. GK is stated to be 14 (born in 1985), and while grace's age and DOB is never stated, this could explain why she is taller than amber and holland.
#3d workers island#barking#made with my own paws#im definitely going to draw portraits of everyone when i can#because there is something distinctly wrong about each and every one of them

you Will read 3d workers island. it’s so detailed and rich. it captures an atmosphere of old internet rumors and creepypasta very well WHICH ties into the narrative’s themes of what outsiders see/don’t see in familial abuse situations + interpreting media and seeing a reflection of one’s experiences
i love the open-endedness about what is real or fiction. it works thematically whether you choose to see the creepiness as real or a rumor, whether the program is alive or not. i also love that even if nothing nefarious is there it’s still meaningful to the people who see themselves in amber
#3d workers island#3dwiscr#am.txt#analysis#aside from the petscop thematic similarities (ofc they have the same author)#reminds me somewhat of umineko (the weight of fiction and reality and truth and their interplay + abuse n what is revealed n how one copes)#+ the northern caves (what readers bring to media + analyzing something that feels meaningful to you even if it may lack meaning#+ old internet culture)#fascinating work it’s really great

A few days ago, I got permission from Tony Domenico to create a dramatic reading of his most recent work: 3D Workers Island. I am incredibly proud of this. It is my first ever full-fledged attempt at making a reading of something and I think it came out pretty good. I'm super happy! I hope you all enjoy it too. I may do more readings in the future, we'll see.
