I’m back. This is my present for you. I started it in 1996, for Marvin. If you think they’re worth any effort, see if you can save Care B, or Care NLM. Care B is in the school, of course. Fuck you all, and fuck me as well. Merry Christmas. Check your bathroom now. -rainer

I'll never forget first watching this and immediately experiencing an intense negative reaction. I was in tears over Petscop 11 and at the time I didn't completely grasp why. I had to really think about why this made me so emotional.
Care A, B, and NLM are one character at different stages of trauma. Once Care A becomes Care B, or is changed by whatever horrors she went through, she can never return to who she was before. Eventually, she may slip into NLM (nobody loves me). She can never go back to A, but she can go back to B. She may even remain as NLM. She can still be saved, and is worth saving.
Change is terrifying, especially when it's sudden and very negative. Especially for a child. It's a fact that you don't really get to return to the carefree innocence of before once you've gone through something so awful.
But what I love about Petscop is the message that even if you're different now, even if you'll never be the same, there will always be a place for you. You will always have people that love and support you. And you can still reclaim your happiness and heal from your trauma in spite of how it shaped and changed you. It means a LOT to someone like me.

i knowwww taking someones interpretation of a piece of fiction as being 1 to 1 representative of their real life beliefs is dumb, but when someone interprets a work thats about being an unbelieving bystander to child abuse within the framework of internet urban legends as being a mysterious she said he said and focuses way more on the deliberately ambiguous supernatural mechanics that are only a narrative device in the grand scheme of things rather than the message it kind of pisses me off!!!!!!!! this is also how i feel about how a great majority of cis male gamers experienced a story about the consequences of enabling sexual assault and came out of it like ooh that was so ambiguous i wonder what that was about... RAHHH!!!!

one thing about 3dworkers island that Gets me Going is Pat Lawler's nonstop "amber is so lazy, do something" "Some people have worked enough!" shit is like. It takes energy to hit someone. It takes energy to smack and punch and beat on someone. It takes energy to yell, scream, make someone fearful and small and red. It takes energy to work with 2 other adults to coordinate abuse and pin a little girl down in place to torture her.
But yeah sure Pat. You've worked soooooo hard and deserve a nice rest. Easily one of the most simple depictions of an abusive, vile monster of a human being I've seen in recent media.
