Day 30 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 2)

Day 30: Top 3 shows to introduce people to BL?

To introduce someone to BL I'd choose shows that are great shows but don't rely too much on tropes and inside jokes from the BL sphere, while also having a high production quality. It also doesn't hurt if there's other plot than romance, so if that doesn't interest them, there's other parts of the shows that might catch their interest.

This leaves me with this top 3:

Not Me

Really interesting, entertaining and engaging plot, while also having a high production quality. Romance comes in second to the action and mystery, so there's a little bit of everything.

2. The Eighth Sense

Great show without any strong tropes and explores some interesting themes. Especially good if the person I'm trying to get into BL is from Europe or North America or just a kdrama fan.

3. Moonlight Chicken

Feels more steeped in the BL world than other two while still not having any of the more divicive tropes and also has a high production quality.

Usually I adapt the answer to the people I'm introducing said show but I think these 3 shows have a bit of everything and can satisfy anyone willing to give BLs a try.

Number 3

Wandee Goodday

This one is tried and tested. If a Thai BL incorporated the kdrama romcom aesthetic it would be this one. It's funny witty and sexy. My friend loved it!

PLUS CANON ASEXUAL CHARACTER!

Number 2

The Eighth Sense

I honestly can't recommend this one enough. It's not on the number one spot because I feel like you need to be in the right mental state to absorb it but it's one of my favourites. It's a simple, genuine story that touches on so many important aspects of life that it transcends the romance while still keeping it at the centre. Truly a masterpiece worth checking out.

Sotus

I think we can all agree that Sotus is the only option ever. It was my first introduction to thai BLs and I'm grateful it was. It still stands the test of time for sure.

It's one of those shows that can work as a good gateway to checking out other similar shows. It introduces many key factors like engineering gays, the hierarchy between classmates and ofc rooftop kisses and pink drinks. It's such a classic you simply have to watch it.

Forgot to post yesterday so I will be posting for 2nd Feb right now. I didn't really study all that much yesterday, just a little bit of condensed matter for class, and then I went back to my room and binged watched a kdrama. I did sleep at 3am and my eyes are drooping close but at least I had fun.

Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie! At least I'm about to start it, but this is for an assigned reading. For leisure, I last read the translated web novel Qing Kuang, an mlm high school slice of life novel and it was fun!

Day 26: a BL manga that's a masterpiece

I feel like saying this is a masterpiece isn't groundbreaking or different... but damn this story solidifies that yaoi could make its trite tropes fun and interesting when the art is gorgeous and it leans into its kdrama/soap opera storylines. Byeonduck says this came from her mean dom fantasy she had as a girl. It shows in the best way. It's like indulging in too many sweets. Kinda naughty, kinda immature, stupid, but fun.

It's been a while since I've written something just for me. I've been writing ever since I could scrawl abstract lines meant to convey my mind at the time. I would pour my underdeveloped feelings into a fuzzy journal with a sparkly gel pen; source my daydreams when I was absent-minded. I don't know. I used to write poetry -- not anything good. Just more spewings of a teenager trying to make sense of the world.

I guess what I'm doing now is another iteration of journaling. I've tried blogging multiple times, especially on websites like Tumblr, but I never found the drive to commit to it. I don't know what's pushing me to try again. Maybe it's because I'm in my last year of college and I continue to compare myself to people who will always end up more successful than me? Or maybe it's because I actually want to work on my own well-being this year and I'd like to record it somewhere for someone to read and be inspired...

Who am I kidding? I have no idea if this will ever even catch on. If it does though, thank you for witnessing my self-obsessed ramblings.

It's 2025, I'm 21 years old, and I haven't caught on to any of my "resolutions." I feel like I'm in constant circulation of disappointing myself and wanting to prove myself wrong. I'd like to say I'm competitive, but at the same time, I'm fine with not putting up a fight. I guess I like to choose my battles. Point being, I want to accomplish something this year. Eventually I'll graduate (finally), but I want to do something humans are just happy about doing. I want to master something new, I want to stop vaping, I want to network and meet new people!

So, yes, I'm a bit of an idealist. Sometimes a romantic. I often watch indie-rom coms and kdramas, can you blame me?

Anyways, this is Day 1. "Day 1 of what?" you may ask. Well, ask no further because... I'm not entirely sure. This is all on a whim, but don't worry. I'm trying to find my footing as much as you are. We're all living our life the first time, right? I'd really just like to challenge myself to be a creature of habit. I kind of made a plan:

Write at least 10 minutes every day

Drink 2 L of water every day

Workout for 30 minutes every day

This is all I have for right now. At least it's something. I didn't want to do too much if there was a chance it'd overwhelm me. I'm already so busy with being in my last semester and I noticed a lot of problems with my lifestyle. I've become pessimistic, reserved, and I procrastinate a lot of my time. Once I realized how much time I wasted not doing something meaningful for myself, I knew I had to change. I keep letting myself down by not upholding my own well-being.

I know it's kind of cheesy, but I'm glad I'm working on myself. Everyone says it's a mindset thing. I didn't really believe it until I kept feeling horrible and gross about myself. Sometimes that's enough to know.

Day 2: Your favorite male lead character?

Jeong Joo Hyung

Honestly the character is so sweet and bubbly and energetic and funny! I just really want a boyfriend like him. I just love how he loves Bok Joo so purely. He loves her because of who she is, he knows she isn’t the prettiest girl [supposedly in the show], but she becomes beautiful to him the more that he falls for her. He even states “There isn’t a reason to like you, I like you because I like you”. That’s what I really like, he likes and loves her with all her flaws and short comings. They grow to love each other for who they are and it’s just so pure and beautiful.
