Day 24 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 2)

Day 24: What Storyline/trope do you enjoy and wish to see more of?

I've always loved when a hurt/traumatized person with low self-esteem and walls as high as a skyscraper meets a loving and kind person who just loves them and supports them.

Would love to see more of that buuuuuut I want to make this even more specific.

What I would love to see more is when those two people have slowly found themselves in a relationship but aren't quite there yet and it's still unspoken between them. Then a third person enters the picture and confidently starts trying to get with the romantic interest. This leaves the hurt character feeling unmoored and like they're not good enough and that the third person would be a better match for the romantic interest and they start pulling back and just become this pitiful wet rag of pure hurt.

I just love this pain soooo much and it just makes it so much more satisfying when they get together.

Think PhumPeem in We Are, which is actually the inspiration for why I'm including this here. It's actually even more specifically this PhumPeem fic which made me realise how much I love this type of trope/plot. The fic just brought the yearning and the hurt to the forefront which made for a delicious read.

Day 59 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 4)

Day 59 - What's a hill you're willing to die on when it comes to BL?

Not gonna lie but I do have a lot of hills I'd be willing to die on but for the sake of this, let's just go with just one of the big hill.

Actors don't owe their fans anything!

They don't owe us their time, any personal information or anything like that. They don't owe us to stay single or to keep their romantic partner a secret. They don't owe us fan-service, photographs, autographs or anything like that, especially when they are off the clock.

This is regardless of whether they've shared any personal information or done any specific kind of fan-service in the past. At any point they can decide that they don't want to share any personal information with us and we have to be okay with that.

Actors are human beings like us so we gotta respect them as such.

Day 44 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 3)

Day 44 - Well that escalated quickly. What dramatic scene really stuck with you?

Sky getting assaulted by his ex in Love in the Air was a hard watch and is still stuck with me to this day!

And it is entirely random that this prompt ended up on the day when Sky/Kai's story started in the Japanese version.

He got manipulated by Gun once again and had to withdrawn far into himself once again just to protect himself for what he was assuming was to come. Watching Prapai having to basically yank Sky out of his headspace by yelling because nothing else was working and then him absolutely begging Sky to cry because seeing Sky so unresponsive was scaring Prapai.

It's fair to say that when Prapai beat Gun up afterwards, I was cheering him on. That bastard deserved everything he got!

Day 31 - 15 Days BL Challenge (Part 3)

We're still going at it!! it just looks weirder and weirder the longer this goes on since the challenges are still called "15 Days" 😅

Day 31: Favourite Hug(s)?

This one is fresh off the printing press because it's from episode 8 of Blue Canvas of Youthful Days, which aired just a couple of days ago.

It's them running into each other's arms and then clinging onto each other with all their strength.

It's the way that Qin Xiao caresses Qi Lu's back and leans his head in so his face is almost in the crock of Qi Lu's neck.

It's all the ways that this hug shows just how much they care for each other and how much they both needed this hug and the physical closeness.

Day 60 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 4)

This is it! Day 60! And the final day of my fourth part of the 15 Days BL Challenge. I've had a blast and I'll definitely keep interacting with the tag even if I finished doing the prompts.

Day 60 - Favourite lesser known BL

Number in the parentheses is the number of times I've mentioned each show in a prompt of the 15 Days BL Challenge which doesn't tell you much but it does show you have much space some of these shows take up in my brain.

180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us (0)

This is where my love and respect for Pond started. This show is an odd one because it's much more about interpersonal relationships and as such is like the opposite of an action series with little movement and only a few locations.

It works, however, really well for the show and the production quality and acting is great. It's an interesting character study and a must watch if you ask me.

Tokyo in April is... (2)

This show has my favourite type of pairing of hurt character with walls sky high gets loved with a side of childhood best friends and mutual pining.

I just love watching them piece together what actually happened in their shared past and heal while doing so.

It's one of my favourite Japanese BLs and more people should get to witness its beuaty.

Love Class 2 (1)

I love this BL so much that I even made a post about why more people should watch this!

It's a Korean BL with a good mixed bag of pairings and plot lines which makes for a good well rounded show with bucked loads of chemistry and pining.

And you can just skip the first season and go directly to season 2!

History3: Make Our Days Count (8)

Don't know if this could be called a lesser known because I think a lot of people know this exists but so many people seem afraid of actually watching it because of the ending which is a pity because it is such a good show! I promise one day I'll get around to writing a post about why it's so good.

This show is by far my most returned to show of all the BLs I've watched and I think the fact that I've mentioned it in 8 different prompts for this challenge says a lot about how much I love it!

It's sweet and spicy and wholesome and heartwarming and funny and healing. It both has moments of being silly and moments of seriousness in a good balance. It has some of my favourite characters and relationships and it just fills me with happiness.

Don't Say No (4)

This is another show I've returned to a lot and I think I've figured out why. Even if most of the plot points during this show are wild, I really like the basis for this show: childhood best friends who get together after a long struggle, but then they have to figure out how to be boyfriends with all their baggage and assumptions, both of their own but also of the people around them.

It's a battle between what they want, what they think the other person wants and what they think they should want. It's just so good!

Also I absolutely love a Uke that's more sexually experienced than the Seme. No Blushing Maiden Ukes in this show!!

Day 48 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 4)

Day 48 - If you could switch a BL actor pairing to a different production company, who would you move and to which production company?

I have a handful of these where I'd be super curious what kind of show could be created if the pairing got to do a show with a different production company then what they usually do.

JoongDunk with MeMindY

I wanna see what they can do if they're given more free reign when it comes to chemistry, dynamic and spice. This also came about when I realized that maybe Joong would be a good seme in the way MeMindY does them.

MarkGems with MeMindY

This is very similar to above but also just because I want more of these two.

Mick and Top with any production company that will keep them on my screen with a decent plot

I just want more of them, preferably with a decent plot. Maybe OneD, Kongthup or Mandee could make that happen for me.

BillyBabe with OneD

I want another action drama with these two along the lines of The Sign and as much as I love Saint, I don't entirely trust Idolfactory to land their shows well, so I'd love to see what OneD could do instead, since they're doing really well with Spare Me Your Mercy so far.

Day 43 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 3)

Day 43 - Let’s get delulu, which branded pairing should just get married already? (Note: this is all for fun and giggles, we’re not actually speculating on anyone’s sexuality or relationships.)

Edit: Fair warning, this post got away from me, so here's a tangent about BL pairs first. I won't get offended if you just skip to me talking about BillyBabe.

When it comes to BL pairings I'm very much someone who won't 100% believe that a BL pairing is actually dating as long as there's any financial gain from them pretending to be a couple. (Which is almost all the time for a pairing who's last show was together or that has an upcoming show together or anything vaguely like that)

So as long as there's even the smallest chance that actors are aware of the camera filming or taking pictures of them, then I view their interactions through the lens of fan-service.

This is not to invalidate the love that's between some of these pairings or say that any fan, who does think a pairing is dating, is lying, but since fan-service is a big part of BL, we're always going to have pairings acting it up and I think leaning into the idea that pairings are dating is a slippery slope.

When we decide we think a pairing is dating, we suddenly have a lot more stake in the pairing and it opens up for so many possibilities for people's feelings to get hurt and hurt people are more likely to lash out.

We've already seen it a good handful of times when it comes out that an actor in a pairing is dating someone else or that the actors in the pairing really aren't very close. When that happens fans feel deceived and hurt, get mad and lash out. "Fans" get nasty and start treating the actors and/or their real life partners horribly, because "how could they deceive us like this?"

This could really be applied to anything we believe to be true about an actor. Sexuality, personality, friendships etc. as long as it's something personal to the actor.

And if you're reading this and are thinking "I wouldn't do that!", then I'm sure you're right, I'd like to think this about myself as well, but some fans would and have done exactly that. And it's just hard to know exactly how you'll react until it does happen. Maybe we won't lash out at the actor but we might still turn our back on the actor and help fuel the fire of hurt and anger in the fandom, even if the actor really never did anything wrong, we just assumed.

Bottom line: I'll happily engage in fan-service but as long as a pairing's working together in some way then I'll never be 100% convinced the pairing's actually dating and I think keeping the actors and their personal lives at an arms length is good for both the fans and the actor in the long run.

Anyways, now lets talk about a specific BL pairing because I guess that's what the prompt was actually about...

Billy and Babe!

These two!

I know I already said that I view BL pairings through the lens of fan-service whenever they're in front of a camera but what the fuck are these two doing?! It's like they're doing fan-service on speed!

Making one after the other of really intimate vlogs where they put up a camera and show the fans exactly how close they are. Like some of the things they're sharing in the vlogs are honestly too intimate to share with strangers on the internet if you ask me. Like:

Straight up cuddling in bed in probably just their underwear(?) before getting out of bed in the morning 🤯

Being domestic AF in their hotel room just in robes and underwear (?) 🤯

Whatever it is Billy finds funny about Babe saying that he "Slept so well" 🤯

And finally them being the antitheses to 'two bros chilling in a hot tub, 5 feet away because they're not gay' here 🤯

Apparently their company has come out and said that they don't control any of the things that BillyBabe film in their vlogs and Babe has also recently said he isn't single. Like what the fuck, guys?!

I honestly really hope that this doesn't give any other BL pairings ideas because I don't want this to push the boundaries of what's normal for fan-service. Because this isn't something you just do with your bro and if they aren't actually dating and are instead just playing the part of dating, I think they're taking it too far.

Anyways, I'm mostly just curious to see how this evolve and what happens when they aren't working together anymore.

Maybe they're dating, maybe they're fuck buddies, making they're just the best of friends, or maybe they are none of those. Either way, it's none of my business! I just hope they're happy.

Day 26: Top 3 Most Stylish Boys?

Honestly, fashion and the style of characters are probably the things I notice least when watching a BL, so I'm making this "Which 3 characters would Sof most like to steal clothing from?"

He wore such cool prints and with a ton of color without it being too much. I'm a sucker for a good Hawaiien shirt and a good print so I'd love to pick a couple of pieces from his wardrobe.

Could use some more silken shirts in my life and the fact that I don't already own a dark red velvet shirt is frankly homophobic.

Jack from Jack and Joker

So many black pieces of elegant clothing that I can just tell would give the most delicious gender euphoria.

Tried to find some good full body shots of his black outfits but then I ran out of spoons so you'll have to do with this cool shirt.

Honorable mention to Jeff Satur and whoever helps style him. I'm a sucker for his androgynous style. Like sometimes he wears stuff that I don't even think I could wear because it would leave me feeling too fem.

Day 47 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 4)

Day 47 - Favourite confession scene

I'm weak for a character that doesn't think they should have feelings for the person they're confessing to and are in so much pain as a result. Like if they think they aren't good enough or that they believe society doesn't think they should be together or if they are entirely convinced that it's unrequited.

Give me a confession where the character has been doing everything to hold it in. Where the feelings are so big they can't hold them any more.

My first thought for this is Pie's confession to Ozone in Battle of the Writers.

Another really good example of this kind of confession is Kiyoi's confession to Hira in the final ep of My Beautilful Man (Utsukushii Kare).

Just the hurt and pain in Kiyoi's confession!! Imma go watch it again now because it's just so gooooood!

This show was obviously created with the hope that they'd get the chance to create a second season so I'm just waiting for someone to give them enough money to make that a reality.

Day 54 - 15 Days BL Challenge (part 4)

Day 54 - If you ever stumbled across a BL/GL actor in real life, who would you prefer it NOT to be?

These people are a mix of just so freaking attractive, exactly my type, people I admire a lot and maybe some questionable English skills.

1. Peat Wasuthorn He's both the prettiest and he plays probably my favourite BL character of all time so I don't know if I'd be able to say anything intelligent if I ran into him. And because I'm such a big fan of his, I'd beat myself til the end of time if I managed to come across as a bumbling idiot in front of him.

2. First and Khaotung They're just so great, okay! I'd be screaming on the inside the whole time if I ever met these two and I fear I wouldn't be able to say anything intelligent. Also if I did manage to say something, the language barrier, especially with First, would frustrate me to no end.

3. Noeul and Boss If I stumbled across these two, dressed to the nines, I fear sof.exe would stop working. Just the combination of me being big fans of theirs and them looking amazing would mean I'd probably make a fool of myself and I'd rather not.

4. Lingling Kwong She's just so pretty!! I don't know what else to say! I am beneath her!!! metaphorically not physically sadly.. who said that?!?!

5. Jeab Lala I am weak™ for women who present as on the masculine side of things so it's no surprise Jeab is on this list. She's also really talented, so again, I fear I wouldn't be able to come across as a functional human being if I ran into her.

Side note: Almost had a whirlwind romance with a masc Thai girl in Chiang Mai once, if only I'd just worn my glasses, so I could have noticed she was looking at me a little earlier and flirted back. Curse being short sighted!! 😅
