We begin in the Swiss Alps, in the village of Gstaad in the perfectly-appointed living room of Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson’s chic swank chalet. The tree, towering and opulent. The fireplace draped in garlands. The stockings, bejeweled. Kurt and Blaine, the perfect hosts, have invited their friends to drop in for an evening of Noël Coward-esque banter and fun happy cheer-filled songs.

3.09 Extraordinary Merry Christmas

Rating: 2/5. Mostly unmemorable, kinda heavy-handed with the moral message.

Best Song: Let It Snow. It didn’t really wow me, but I love the Kurt/Blaine duets.

Memorable Quote: “And this is my, um best friend and holiday roommate, Blaine Anderson.” -Kurt

General Notes:

Mercedes singing “all I want for Christmas is you” at Artie and Artie mouthing “Me?” while grinning is high key adorable

The fact that Rachel had a “what you did wrong this week list” is actually mildly terrifying, but as a joke it’s hysterical. “I thought we agreed this hurt more than helped.” Poor Finn haha

Blaine graduated from “Other Gay” to “Young Burt Reynolds” in a matter of minutes with Sue. Even she is not immune to his charms. His little grin is so cute there. Anyway, cue me going down a rabbit hole of pictures of young Burt Reynolds for an hour while the show is paused.

Politically speaking, Sarah Palin was a fucking joke at best and a horrific threat at worst. But comedy-wise, she was gold and I miss her

I feel like sitting in the choir room watching someone sing a song is like a mild version of having “Happy Birthday” sung at you, except instead of intense awkwardness once a year, it’s a small dose of awkwardness administered multiple times a week. And that, kids, is how we all built up an immunity.

Damn, Tina can’t even finish a fucking sentence. What did Jenna do to the writers that made them hate her? I have never so badly wanted anyone from the cast to write a tell-all memoir more than her.

SAM IS AN ANGEL. I want him to leave Glee Club just so that he’ll be protected and safe. He so desperately wants to be liked and accepted and have friends and he is always there to help other people and I love this tall angel.

This episode is actually difficult to watch because Rachel is so horrible. Finn’s gift is lovely and she’s being a brat

Cant’s they just volunteer at the homeless shelter another night? I feel like this is an avoidable conflict.

Darren Criss was made for this black and white aesthetic

“Let It Snow” is a cute follow-up to “Baby It’s Cold Outside” but it’s missing the Blaine’s raw thirst and that was really the holiday cheer I was hoping for

I really can’t stand “My Favorite Things” song just in general. But I’m living for Blaine constantly reaching for Kurt and putting his hand on his arm/back every chance he gets. Also, just an observation but Rachel really overdoes it whenever she’s acting

“That’s not eggnog” is this a jizz joke??

Listen, I want this Christmas episode to be the next season of American Horror Story. I think this would be a perfect setting. It starts picture-perfect and just slowly the horror creeps in. This is entirely inspired by Mercedes saying “I think these are the end times” with a chillingly blank look on her face as she stares at the camera before smiling and shaking her head to open a present.

I guess the rest of this episode is meaningful, I just don’t really care

Remember when we had that awesome Klaine scene of Blaine giving Kurt the little candy wrapper ring and promising to always care about him? And then it was fucking cancelled so we could get another goddamn scene of Finn and Rachel.

TDB Rewatch  3x09  FicRec Extraordinary Merry Christmas

The first missing scene I want to recommend for this week’s episode isn’t particularly for the christmas episode. It's been written by @wowbright before ‘The First Time’ aired, so it lacks the knowledge of the ‘hands-above-the-equator-rule’ or the ‘Blaine-lives-in-a-house-with-no-parents-fact’. But in my headcanon and as part of my personal Best-Of-Missing-Scenes it happens some weeks after TFT (maybe between 3.08 and 3.09) It has a special place in my heart, it has a wonderful Burt-Kurt-Talk and a very important message for all parents and teens to talk about. Then there is But If You Really Hold Me Tight  by  Lokei, where Kurt and Blaine contemplate the ramifications of Artie’s ‘vision’ for the television special.

Extraordinary Merry Christmas Sleepover Spectacular  by @flickerthenflare Summary: Rachel and the rest of the New Directions brainstorm how to hold a festive wrap party for their TV special and properly commemorate the seniors’ last Christmas in glee club. Kurt and Blaine have a hard time saying goodbye to their imaginary Swiss chalet, and Santana adjusts to Christmas without her grandmother. Takes place shortly after “Extraordinary Merry Christmas.”
