May I add: living with chronic anything.

Sometimes people with chronic conditions do everything they can to avoid making symptoms worse, or to manage their existing pain. Creams, meds, long medical treatments, etc. Sometimes it's long and monotonous, and people are still in pain afterwards. Sometimes it's more manageable.

Sometimes, people with chronic conditions might not want to do that. Sometimes they just want to carry on as they are. Maybe it's health risks, or monetary reasons, or it's just not worth it. Sometimes people just don't want to do it, full stop.

Chronic conditions are chronic for one reason: even if they come and go in bouts, even if they're "not that bad"... they don't go away. Sometimes they remain forever, sometimes they may go away. But either way, you will have them for a significant portion of time.

Some people have cures and medicine that helps them to live as uninterrupted as possible, some don't- whether it's access to funds to get it, or because there literally just isn't something like that out there in the world, or maybe it's too risky. Sometimes you can be cured of one thing and it causes another, or it can come back, or, even if your main symptoms are gone, you may be left permanently affected by what the condition did to your body.

Some people have low pain or needs- this doesn't mean they're "overreacting" or "being too dramatic". Pain, even on a low scale, can be absolutely debilitating over a prolonged period of time. Sometimes, medical specialists can get very temperamental over this- personally, my conditions always get missed on 95% tests even if the markers to indicate I have them are there, so the specialists are very reluctant to give me help at first because they don't understand how much my pain affects my life until I prove to them that that help supports me to try to carry on as best as possible. This meme pretty much sums it up (for those who are confused, π, or, pi, is a number that never ends- the calculation for it has been going on for hundreds upon hundreds of years and we're still nowhere near the end seemingly):

On the other hand, some people experience extremely high pain levels and/or are severely affected by their chronic conditions, so much so that it limits them from doing a majority, if not all, of their daily life activities. Some can manage with a carer or assistant, some cannot. That doesn't make them "useless" or "unworthy" or "lazy". They are valuable as all humans are to each other, no matter whether or not they can work "like everyone else" to fulfill that cruel, uncaring, devaluing shitshow of modern expectations of an adult or not. Human decency and care for each other shouldn't ever be associated in the slightest with output or ability.

Sometimes, people's conditions are "intrusive" and/or affect other people's lives (e.g. family becoming carers or assistants, needing more support, being unable to control impulses or body functions) and whilst, yes, sometimes they can take effort to deal with by people on the outside, the person themselves is not incontrol of their condition and complaining 24/7 about it to them will just make them feel like crap. Contrary to popular belief, many people with chronic conditions are actually extremely aware of the effect of their condition on themselves and especially others, and are constantly overcompensating for it and putting so much effort into dampening it down just to make it more "palatable" for others. You don't need to tell them what they already know- if something's really affecting you, maybe come up with a realistic way to help before you ream off about how much something they're having to deal with is annoying you.

Please, don't expect someone to move mountains if you're not going to give them the rope.

And the final point I'm going to make is... please, for the love of your own compassion, sometimes there are people who are tired of having to constantly have to avoid triggers or irritants (e.g. with skin conditions), and want to allow themselves some semblance of being able to live like fully non-chronically affected (i.e. not living with a chronic condition) people for a while.

Concern is a lovely thing to have, but sometimes, people just want to have a bit of a break, y'know? I understand if there's concern about someone continually, severely harming themselves with their actions (i.e. eating an allergen they're highly allergic to, or something that could seriously harm them long-term)- of course, speak to them or try to empathise with them and then bring up your concerns, or come up with something alternative for them.

But if it's a short-term thing? Just let me have this one thing, please- my mental health needs it too. Don't judge me for wanting to have one long night out even if I'm chronically exhausted or easily get overwhelmed. Don't judge me if I have chronic skin conditions but want to have one nice perfume or pretty bath even though I'll be barely able to tolerate clothes in the morning. Don't tell someone they're dumb because they want to take a walk even if they may not be able to keep moving for long. I, and they, can regulate ourselves- we know the risk vs. the reward and sometimes you just want to do "normal" things for once.

Just... please. We're not defined by our conditions, but it doesn't mean we're not constantly affected by them too. They're a part of us, they're not always a welcome part of us, but they're there and we have to deal with them. Just please don't forget: just because we seem happy or fine, doesn't mean we can't be in pain.

when u go to write a mentally ill person in ur story you are presented two options. the first option is to write your mental illness realistically as you actually experience it with all the ups and downs and people who are like you will resonate with it and feel seen. except every person who reads instagram infographics on mental health that uses the phrase narcicisst for anyone who does anything that crosses them and unironically call themself a dark empath will call you scary and tell you that youre demonizing mentally ill people

“What if they don’t like me?”

Beatrice frowns and pauses for a moment on the sidewalk. Ava goes two steps past her before she stops and looks back, her own frown on her face. 

Ava fills her confused silence. “Oh, god. They’re not going to like me.”

Beatrice sees a large group of students walking towards them and grabs for Ava instinctively, pulling her out of their orbit. It puts them on the road and into a small snowbank, but Beatrice can worry about the snow seeping in through the mesh of her sneakers another time, when Ava’s forehead isn’t pinched together in worry.

“Why wouldn’t they like you?” 

She’s curious, because she’s not sure she’s met anyone who doesn’t like Ava. Granted, she’s known Ava for 3 weeks tomorrow - she’s hardly counting the days, she just had a substantial paper due that day and she had been treating herself to a macchiato with a double shot, just because, when Ava crash landed at her table - but in that time, she’s seen Ava meet at least two dozen people and every single one of them walked away with a smile on their face.

But the confident Ava she’s known over the last 3 weeks is not the girl in front of her, nervously bouncing onto the tips of her toes with an almost frenetic energy that Beatrice could reach out and wrap her hand around. She wonders what would happen if she did, if she reached out and put a hand on Ava’s shoulder. Her hands, now pushed deep into her pockets, flex at the idea. 

They’re just… not those kinds of friends. Beatrice is not that kind of friend with anyone, really. Maybe Lilith, in their own way, after years growing up at the same political parties forcing each other into the other’s orbit. And Camila is tactile, but seems to understand that Beatrice needs her space, and she reserves hugs for extra special occasions, still not quantifiable to Beatrice on any level.

Ava squirms in front of her and Beatrice’s hand clenches into a fist so tightly that she can feel the pinch of her fingernails in the soft skin of her palm. The big clock tower in the center of the quad chimes once, twice, twelve times. Noon exactly.

“Well, for example, I’m making us late.” Ava points into the sky, presumably towards the clock tower. “And I forgot my hat. You know how much better I look in my hat.”

She doesn’t, because she’s never seen Ava in a hat before. But she understands the anxiety of meeting new people. So she smiles calmly and clenches and she takes a step closer to Ava. “We reviewed this, didn’t we?”

Ava’s head bobs up and down, face open. Beatrice likes this, that she can tell Ava is listening to her and taking in what she’s saying. “Yes.” Ava nods again. “We went over everyone already. You…” Ava’s mouth lifts in just one corner. “You were very thorough.”

She swallows a little tightly. “You wanted to be prepared.”

“I did. I do!” Ava sways forwards, hands outstretched as if she’s going to reach out and grab Beatrice, shake her into understanding that she means it. “I’m just… I’m nervous. I don’t meet new people all the time.”

Beatrice can’t stop the snort of surprise. It’s inelegant and loud and a trickle of embarrassment runs cold down her spine. She schools her face and lifts her chin into the air just a little. “Ava, I’ve seen you meet at least 10 new people this week alone.”

Ava opens her mouth and snaps it closed again. “Okay,” she finally says, stilling for a moment. “But those people didn’t matter. These people do.”

Yes, they do. They matter to Beatrice more than nearly anything else in her life. Her friends have become her family over the last few years. They’ve seen her at her worst, celebrated her best moments. Lilith is the one she calls on the days when her parents’ letters find their way into her mailbox. Camila is her self-appointed study buddy, keeping her from setting up camp in the library. Mary and Shannon keep her company on the nights when Beatrice feels like she just needs some quiet but doesn’t want to be alone.

She wasn’t aware she had made Ava feel the same way.

“They’re going to like you.” She says confidently, like she already knows.

It’s been 3 weeks and she already knows she likes Ava. Enough to share her favorite table in the student center. Enough to let her strict study time slip away without noticing. Enough to take Ava’s quiet admission of not knowing a lot of people and immediately telling this strange girl who appeared seemingly out of nowhere that she could meet her friends, if she wanted to.

Ava exhales loudly. “You’ll still like me, even if they don’t, right?” That nervous energy is back. Beatrice gets as far as letting her hand drop from her pocket, but it stays firmly against her side. “It won’t change your mind?”

She can’t possibly know that. Her friends are good judges of character. They immediately saw that Lucia was going to be a problem, even though Beatrice hadn’t thought so. And they were right. If something was wrong with Ava, they’d tell her. 

The problem is that, even if they did find something wrong with her, she’s not sure she’d want to know.

So she says, “I’ll still like you,” with her full chest and it seems to soothe some of Ava’s nerves. She settles a little, body coming to a resting state and her shoulders rolling back. She smiles and it seems strong, steady. The crowd passes them on the sidewalk and Beatrice steps back onto it, waiting for Ava to slide in alongside her. Their shoulders bump, their elbows brush.

“I’m going to knock this out of the park,” Ava says, a sudden gust of confidence in her words. “You know that?”

Beatrice doesn’t know, but she believes her. The cold winter air bites at her cheeks and she ducks her head against a slight breeze but Ava turns her face into it, eyes closed slightly and a small smile on her face. Beatrice watches her for a moment. She’s so… free. It’s one of the first things Beatrice noticed about her - how unburdened she seemed to be.

They’re slipping into the student center before she knows it and she soaks in the warmth, unbuttoning her thick winter coat. Ava is back to bouncing again, each step pushing her up into the air a little bit. Beatrice heads towards the small section of tables near the entrance to the science building where she knows her friends are waiting for her.

They’re not those kinds of friends, but Ava reaches out and grabs her arm, squeezing tightly. “This is going to be great.” Beatrice knows she’s saying it more for her own benefit than Beatrice’s so she smiles and nods in agreement, arm burning through the thick wool of her coat where Ava’s hand is wrapped around it.

Ava doesn’t let go and walks at an odd angle, half-dragging Beatrice beside her.

Mary spots them first. Beatrice prides herself on knowing her friends and she can tell Mary is surprised. At Ava or the fact that she’s pulling Beatrice behind her like the wake of a speedboat, she’s not sure. But Beatrice gives nothing away, not challenging the look on Mary’s face as it goes from surprise to curiosity. Mary smacks Shannon in the shoulder lightly, nodding towards their strange approach. Lilith looks up from her phone, eyes narrowing in on Ava and Beatrice sends up a silent prayer that Lilith’s bark is worse than her bite today. Camila turns, face brightening.

“Beatrice!”

Beatrice smiles fondly and she feels Ava looking at her, mirroring her. Ava drags her the last few feet and comes to a stop just outside of the small circle the others have created.

“Hi!” She grins, eyes moving from person to person. “I’m Ava.”

Camila and Shannon smile. Mary nods again, a silent greeting. Lilith stands, spine perfectly straight, and stares down at Ava. Ava, to her credit and Beatrice’s amusement, just smiles a little wider.

“You’re Lilith,” she guesses.

Lilith’s eyes cut to Beatrice. “What gave that away?”

“Beatrice won’t shut up about your smile.”

Mary snorts, not bothering to cover the sound. Camila hides her smile. Lilith continues to look Ava over with narrowed eyes before her chin tips almost imperceptibly - a silent fine, she can stay. Beatrice feels a rush of relief settle in her stomach that surprises her. She didn’t know she cared so much about Lilith’s opinion.

“I’m Camila.” Camila sticks her hand out and Ava finally lets go of Beatrice’s arm, looking curiously at it before shaking it. “Beatrice won’t stop talking about you.”

“That’s not true,” she says at the same time as Ava turns to her and says, “I knew it.”

Beatrice shakes her head. “You knew nothing. Maybe I’m not saying anything nice.”

Ava pushes her hand into her pocket and rocks to one side, shoulder knocking into Beatrice. “Oh, come on. I’m pretty great. You can admit that. You don’t have to show off for your friends.”

“Yeah, Beatrice,” Mary drawls. “Don’t show off for us.”

“Mary,” Ava says. Her eyes are bright. “Beatrice says a lot about you.”

“Oh, so she’s saying things about us.” Mary crosses her arms over her chest, eyebrow raised in challenge. “What’s she saying?”

“She’s saying-” Ava’s eyes cut to her and then she slams her mouth shut, miming pulling a zipper across her lips. Her shoulder bumps Beatrice’s again as she shakes with a silent, unexplained laugh.

A curious feeling comes over Beatrice. It almost feels like fondness. Which can’t be true, of course. Because she’s known Ava for 3 weeks tomorrow and that’s certainly not enough time to be… enamored by someone. She’s known her barista longer than that and has nothing but passing gratitude for her and the extra shot she sometimes surprises Beatrice with. She’s known her advisor since freshman year and she’s only ever felt appreciation for him. 

Fondness is something reserved for her friends, not someone so new like Ava.

“Nothing but nice things,” she finally says.

“Well, we’ve heard nothing but the same about you,” Camila fills in. She loops her arm through Ava’s, pulling her closer to the couch she’d abandoned a moment ago. Ava looks back at Beatrice over her shoulder before sitting down next to Camila. “So, tell me about yourself. Beatrice says you’re a freshman.”

Mary sidles up next to her, her shoulder replacing the feeling of Ava’s. “She seems… excitable. Is she.. Is she wiggling?”

Beatrice looks. Yes, Ava is moving animatedly, hands moving in wild circles as she tells Camila and Shannon something and Lilith looks on with mild disapproval. She smiles. She knew Camila would immediately pull Ava into a conversation where she could… Well, Beatrice can admit to herself that Ava is charming. And that charm seems to extend to everyone, Beatrice included.

“Beatrice nearly caught bedbugs from her freshman year roommate,” Shannon is telling her now. “What was her name again? Crimson?”

Ava’s nose wrinkles. “That’s a name?” She shrugs it off. “My roommate isn’t bad. Chanel is definitely cooler than me. She goes to all the campus parties. But she’s moving out at the end of the semester and I’m going to get stuck with someone new.” She pouts, bottom lip pushed out dramatically. “I don’t want to live there anymore.”

“Beatrice has a spare room opening up. Don’t you, Beatrice?” Camila looks at her over Ava’s head and Beatrice does an admirable job of keeping her face neutral. Ava is still, effectively, a stranger. And Beatrice knows well enough that you don’t invite a stranger to move in with you. Though, she supposes that freshmen do, in fact, move in with strangers. Still. Beatrice won’t do it. Camila is still smiling. “You guys should talk about it.”

Mary must feel the way she’s suddenly pulled rigid. Because that shoulder presses warmly against her and Mary sucks her teeth for a second before she leans forward and exhales. Beatrice braces herself. Mary looks like a father ready to interrogate the boy picking up her daughter for the night. Beatrice’s forehead wrinkles at the thought as it comes on suddenly. What a strange thing to think. 

“So, Ava. Any extracurriculars? What do you do on the weekends? Any criminal history we need to know about?”

Ava, to her credit, places her hands on her knees and straightens up higher than Beatrice has seen her so far - 3 weeks tomorrow, she thinks. Not a lifetime - as she thinks of her answers. “No criminal history, yet. Though Chanel has informed me that I’ve committed many crimes against fashion. I don’t think she appreciates my minion pajamas, though. She should. They’re the most comfortable thing besides not wearing pants.” She purses her lips. “As for extracurriculars… none yet. Though, there’s a rock climbing place nearby that the intramural team goes to sometimes! One of the guys in my math class told me about it.”

Camila immediately pouts. “I want to go to the rock climbing place.”

“We should!” Ava looks around, excitement effusing from her. “We could do that. I think they do group discounts.”

“Someone won’t do it with us,” Camila continues, pointedly not looking at her.

Ava looks at each of their faces before her eyes settle on Beatrice. “You don’t want to go rock climbing? Why not?”

Beatrice has a myriad of reasons: the chalk is is supposedly notoriously difficult to get out of clothes, the place seems to be crowded with college students and little kids at birthday parties, the workers there are college students and she wouldn’t trust them to hold open a door let alone keep her suspended above the ground. And most importantly, a thought she keeps to herself: she’s not sure she’ll be good at it.

Then Ava does something Beatrice knows is going to be ruinous. She turns her whole body towards Beatrice, that same open look on her face, head tipped to one side as a slight smile starts to build in the corner of her mouth. “I think you should try it. And I think you should try it with me.”

All of the reasons, carefully crafted into an argument she used with Mary and Camila and Shannon and Lilith, evaporate. They disappear into Ava’s hopeful smile. Every part of her that rebelled against the idea, that kept her refusal steadfast, is gone in the instant that Ava nods encouragingly.

“Okay,” she hears herself say. 

Though, it can’t actually be her, Because she said no to this the last three times she was asked about it. But it is her. Camila lets out a small excited cheer, Shannon smiles, Lilith’s face flickers in approval, Mary stares at her openly, and Ava beams.

“Rock climbing!” Ava looks around excitedly. “You guys must not have tried hard to change her mind very hard.” They’re not those kinds of friends but Ava reaches over and grabs Beatrice’s hand, squeezing it tightly. “That was so easy,” she laughs.

Mary is still staring at her. She feels it against the side of her face and she refuses to turn towards her. She lifts her chin into the air slightly, pointedly, and does a good job pretending all of her attention is on Ava asking Camila about the right kind of shoes and whether or not she'll be able to climb without a harness. They’re tight, she’s saying.

Mary bumps into her again and she finally has to look. “That was so easy.” She mimics Ava quietly enough that no one hears them. “Tell me, Beatrice. Did we not try hard enough?” There’s a smirk growing on her face, a telltale sign that Mary knows the answer to her own question.

So Beatrice doesn’t bother offering a different one.

“I like her,” Mary says after another minute of stretched out silence. “I think she’s going to be good for you.”

Beatrice frowns. “Good for me?” She shakes her head. “I don’t think so. I think she’s going to be a terrible influence.”

Mary sneaks a hand to her elbow. “I think maybe you need that every once in a while. Makes you a little more human.” She squeezes Beatrice’s arm, taking the sting out of the words. “Better stop her before Camila ropes her into something though. Because the two of them seem dangerous together.” Mary slips away, back to Shannon’s side.

Beatrice watches Ava, still animated, going on too quickly for Beatrice to tune into and keep up with. Even Lilith looks less disgruntled than usual, a rare flicker of a smile on her face so briefly that Beatrice could have possibly imagined it. She thinks of Ava’s question, so foolishly asked. What if they don’t like me?

Another thought worms its way inside her brain. What if they like her too much? 

What if I like her too much?

But Ava looks back at her and smiles and Beatrice just simply tucks that thought away for later. Apparently, she’s going rock climbing.

Now that we’re winning and everyone’s screaming your name again, is sharing a bed with the lowly running back beneath you, Mr. King in The North? Is it—” Steve cuts him off and pushes him against the door.  “Just— just—” “Just what, Steve?” He doesn’t want to fight Steve. He’s not totally sure he can hold his own, but he might have the upperhand in dexterity and sheer junkyard dog mentality. Steve stops him in his tracks before he spirals too out of control.  “Just— shut the fuck up.” He grits out, his hands tangling in Eddie’s hair still shoved against the door. The words barely leave his mouth before Steve surges forward.  Steve kisses him.  Steve kisses him.  Better yet, Steve lets Eddie kiss him back. It’s rough and sloppy, too much teeth, but Eddie doesn’t give a shit. He’s kissing Steve Harrington and even if it’s a mistake, even if he’s just another experiment for a curious but closeted football jock, he’ll take it.

I've had this sitting in my drafts for a few days and just forgot to post it. Anyway! Thoughts on "Entombed" (sorry, this got long): 

1. There's an ancient mechanical creature hidden under a mountain on an uncharted world activated by a mysterious crystal and implied to have razed its entire planet. Why? How does this technology work? Is the mechanical creature alive or sentient in some way? What is it about the crystal that activates the creature? Is this just technology, or is it force weirdness, or both? Why did somebody (potentially the Zeffo) build a planet destroying giraffe of terror? Why was it in the mountain? Did someone hide it there? Did the engineer who designed it base its appearance off of a real animal? Did it hide itself? I have questions.

2. I had to watch this one twice to decide what I thought. I enjoyed it the first time, but I was so thrown by how completely different it was than what I was expecting that I had to give it another shot. Second time around? I loved it. Sometimes Star Wars is profound and serious. Sometimes it's silly Indiana Jones shenanigans in space, and I love it for that.

3. I'll talk about the whole "filler" discussion lower down, but one of the throughlines that's been carried through to this episode from the very beginning of the season is the idea of these characters exploring life outside Kamino, the army, and even the "hunker down and survive" mode they were all in last season, along with the choices they are or could be making as individuals regarding what kind of lives they want to live. Echo, for example, wants to go back to being a soldier, but this time in a fight against the empire; Crosshair is still choosing to be a soldier (for now), and he's miserable about it but having to live with the choice he made to stay; Tech's gotten to explore a bit of what he wants and likes through the riot racing episode but, more than that, he's being presented with the idea that the galaxy is broader and deeper than he considered and that he maybe has more to offer it than just what he was designed to offer; Wrecker...honestly needs an episode where he's in focus because he seems to be the most content of any of them and I'm not sure what Wrecker wants, besides being with the people he loves; and then this week was Omega's (and sort of but not quite) Hunter's turn. I'm an adult, so I tend to focus on the adult characters, but Omega's such a good character and it's great that she's also getting a chance to explore what kind of person she wants to be. This is the second episode we've seen that really focuses on her being a bit of an adrenaline junky with an interest in treasure hunting. And given what Romar said to her about how happiness is worth all the treasure in the galaxy, that's probably going to be a theme for her this season, and I'm curious to see where it goes.

4. Theres. An inexplicable megazord. Just. Out there. On a dead planet.

5.  Hunter's...Hunter's not okay. And not even in just a "tired dad" sense, I mean that Hunter's probably been crying under his helmet since "Aftermath" and that he's getting to the point where he can't hide how bone-tired and sad he actually is. It's almost shocking going back and watching the first half of season one and comparing Hunter there to how he's been in his season so far, because he was so much more open back then. He was exploring options, asking questions, trying to find a new life for all of them, and came across as pretty confident in his decisions, but after the one-two-three punch of encountering Crosshair on Bracca, getting shot by Cad Bane, and losing Omega? The man shuts down. And he only shut down more after what happened with Crosshair on Kamino. I actually suspect that Hunter agrees more with Echo about what they should be doing than he lets on, even taking his opinion that Omega shouldn't be forced into become a soldier the way they were into account. He's not happy about what they're doing, he doesn't like going on dangerous missions for someone else, and he really only got involved with Cid because they were broke and desperate and because she kind of blackmailed them into doing it, but he keeps digging his heels in and refusing to move. It seems like he feels like he's a failure as a leader, a brother, and maybe even as a father, because he hasn't really been proactively leading the group since episode nine of last season. He isn't really making decisions about what they should or shouldn't do--he's mostly letting other people decide on their missions and then letting them guilt, blackmail, or push him into it because he's so scared of making a decision that get's another one of them hurt or results in them losing another person the way they lost Crosshair (or worse) that he's mentally and emotionally paralyzed AND emotionally isolating himself from everyone else. And that paralysis is starting--more than starting--to cause friction on the team, and I'm curious to see how that's going to affect the story moving forward.

6. Seriously, someone get this beautiful bandana man some therapy.

7. Likewise, the vibe between Echo and Hunter this episode was interesting. As much as they're (at least outwardly) disagreeing on what their next steps should be, there doesn't seem to be any animosity between them, at least not yet.  All those silently exchanged glances? They disagree, but they trust each other, and I kind of think they both think that they other one is going to come around to their point of view. Eventually.

8. Omega is me if someone sets me loose on a scavanger hunt.

9. They gave me the space archaeology (kind of) and I am VIBRATING

10. I WISH archaeology was this fun. I spent an entire season walking surveys up in Wyoming, and did I ever come across a map to an ancient mecha-beast? No. No I did not. (I kid, real life archaeology is very fun and I have absolutely cried about lithic debitage and fingerprints on potsherds because someone it means someone lived and breathed and died and that stuff might seem boring but it's evidence of a human life and that's beautiful.)

11. Phee! All hail our pirate queen!

12. Phee is fun and her fashion sense is impeccable. And she has a sword. She's got a vibro-cutlass. Or something like unto a sword. But in space. And regardless of how anyone interprets them, I really liked the scenes with her and Tech at the beginning (characters being a bit snarky towards each other? I'm going to have fun), and Omega imprinting on her like a little baby duck was adorable. It's similar to the vibe Ezra had with Hondo, but where Ezra was a bit of a little shit (and I mean that affectionately) with a tendency to give Hondo chances he knew Hondo didn't deserve because he thought Hondo was a fun dude to have around (and maybe because he saw in Hondo a lot of the kind of person he would have turned into if the ghost crew hadn't picked him up and given him a chance), Omega's just all starry eyes with Phee. Is Phee trustworthy? Probably not. Is she fun for now? Oh yeah.

13. It would be hilarious if Phee turned out to be a former jedi who worked in the archives but left the order well before the war or order 66 because she wanted to go treasure hunting. This is the crackiest of crack theories and I do not expect it to happen. But it would be funny.

14. I loved how into the treasure hunt Tech started to get. Asking questions? About the puzzles? Doing his own investigation on the age of the site? Yes.

15. "I suspect that this is not, in fact, a treasure vault," as the aforementioned inexplicable megazord shambles to life once again proving that Tech, with his deadpan one-liners, is the funniest damn character on this show.  

16. Not much Echo this episode, which was a little disappointing, but I liked what little we got. Hopefully there's more in the next one!

17. There's a MAP to an TECHNOLOGICAL MONSTER that PREDATES THE REPUBLIC just OUT in SPACE and I am HERE FOR IT.

18. I didn't think it was possible to make something that vaguely resembles an ankylosaur look scary. I've been corrected. I'm glad Wrecker was able to throw the ankylosaur from hell out the window. (But also I feel a little sorry for it). 

19. Mel??? Running from the death ray??? And not making it??? Corbett and Rau I AM IN YOUR WALLS WHAT THE HELL??? But no, actually, that was a pretty good way to up tension without taking out one of the regular characters.

20. So...I'm not saying that spite is low-key a good motivator, but spite might low-key be a good motivator. I'll just leave it at that.

21. No one calls the clone characters by their names. I didn't think this was anything at first, but the more of this season I see, the more I think it definitely is. No one who isn't a clone addresses a clone by their name. And it's not just the villianous or morally ambiguous non-clone characters, no one does it. Not Phee, who has a couple different nicknames for everyone in the batch (including Tech, even though she asked what his name was), not Cid, not Rampart, not even Romar, and Romar was definitely a good guy. The only exception was the announcer and the crowd using Tech's name in "Faster," because that's the name he gave when he signed up (and there's a pretty good chance no one suspected he was a clone) and even then the announcer had to comment on how weird it was and questioned whether or not that was even a name. It's an interesting trend and is probably playing into the idea of how clones were viewed by most of the galaxy during the war--basically as non-people--but I also want to see where it goes before I come down on any hard conclusions. Apart from the overall trend, I do think that every character we're meeting is doing it for a different reason. Rampart pointedly calls clones by their CT numbers as a sign of disrespect. They are not people to him and he doesn't care if they know that. Cid? I think it's so she doesn't get attached. She doesn't want to like them too much. It might be the same for Phee, buuuuuut I'm not sure. And then with Romar...I kind of wonder if he kept calling Tech "Ace" partly because he didn't realize that Tech's name was Tech. Same with the announcer in "Faster" scratching his head over "Tech" being a name. Romar could have thought that "Tech" was a codename or a squad designation, because...I mean...clone names are unusual. Even within the galaxy far far away with the exceedingly silly names, clone names are often etymologically weird. And every person in the batch is named after their job. It'd be like going to the store and finding out that the person loading the shelves is just named "Stocker." And--hey, sad thought about clones--I kind of wonder if most people in the galaxy just assumed that clones didn't have names. After all, they're manufactured people, people who didn't--from what people could tell from the outside--have families. Who would name them? is probably what a lot of people who didn't know the clones would ask. The only people who called the clones by their names were the jedi and other clones; now the jedi are gone and most of the clones aren't in a position to even use their own names right now.

22. I just made myself sad about clones.

23. I LOVED the look of...well, of everything in this episode. It honestly felt like half the purpose of this one was to allow the art and effects teams to flex and flex they did.  

24. This whole episode is like if someone decided that Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Castle in the Sky, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and Godzilla: King of Monsters were the same movie, and I appreciate that energy. 

25. I love that the batch's reaction at the end was basically just, "Well. That just happened." I need Crosshair to come back so they can tell him this story. Them just saying, "While you were off with the Empire we were awakening the ancient horrors," and him jokingly threatening to leave again because there's no way he's believing that this happened.

26. What is the kingdom of Elweys? I need it. I need to know. (For real, though, I'm actually glad that none of the crazy ancient technology stuff in this episode was explained. It gives the GFFA a bit of temporal depth that it doesn't always have and I'm here for it.)

27. Regarding the filler discussion: Not every story has to be serialized. It's okay for some shows to just be a series of putting characters in different combinations and scenarios and seeing what they do. In fact, that used to be the norm. For decades. That was how television worked. It's only in the last decade or so that serialized television has become more of a regular thing. 

Furthermore, there's a spectrum of ways to serialize something. On one end of that spectrum you have your eight-hour movies--things like Kenobi and Moon Knight, where pretty much every episode begins where the previous episode ended, and where no episode is complete without the overall structure of the entire show. On the other end of that spectrum you have your tentpole episode shows--think something like the first season of the Ducktales reboot--where you can mostly watch the episodes in any order you want because most of the episodes are the characters getting into various shenanigans while most of the plot is reserved for big event episodes, usually mid-season or season finales. And then elsewhere on that spectrum you'll have shows that are written a little more like a novel. Every single episode or chapter will have its own story, its own miniature inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and its own mix of plot, character development, and worldbuilding (sometimes focusing a little more on one than the others), but the successive episodes or chapters build up to an overarching story and overall structure, and it can be hard to see how or what that overarching story is until you get to the end of the whole story. That's what The Bad Batch is. It's that kind of serialized story. 

And--just a last thought--if we're going to say that an episode is filler and doesn't contribute to the plot, we've got to one, consider that maybe story is more than plot, and two, ask ourselves what the "plot" actually is. Anyway, this is just me being a little bit salty, but the unending "filler" discourse whenever The Bad Batch isn't Crosshair's Agony Half-Hour got old last season, and this will probably be the last thing I say about it. (Also, this is just me and my two cents, so take it with a grain of salt). 

28. Jumping off of that, this kind of episode does make me suspect that we are getting at least a third season, because it feels like the writers are taking their time taking us we're they're going. I am more than okay with this.

29. DID I MENTION THE INEXPLICABLE MEGAZORD???

Combining my special interests: omegaverse but in space travel setting.

Zero-G enviroment nests: nesting traditionally would be impossible, so omegas would probably utilize something like the sleeping bags on the ISS- nests that they can zip themselves inside of and be surrounded by plush, soft textures. The fun part is that there are no rules for direction in space, so omegas could choose to attach their nests on any surface of a space station/spaceship. Ceiling nests? They feel the same as any other zero-g nest. This is great for satisfying the more playful/whimsical side of omegas.

Interstellar travel tropes: large generation ships that slowly drift through space looking for new horizons on unknown planets. These huge ships have a large population of different ages all there knowing they will live their entire lives on these ships, among the stars. Alphas tasked with ship defence systems teaching young alphas how to operate them and telling tales of earth, preparing children and grandchildren to help estabilish a well-protected community when they reach the planet they were aiming for. How to build, how to provide shelter and safety. Omegas tasked with educating the children to make sure they do not forget where they came from (earth), and preparing them for being the generation that operates the ship and possibly lands it on their destination planet. Omegas teaching their children how to reaolve conflicts and how to take care of a civilization's needs, whether on a spaceship or on a new, alien planet. Betas teaching invaluable life skills to the new generations, how to operate the ship, navigate through space, how to estabilish communications and infrastructure on a new planet, how to create an equal and democratic society, teaching history lessons from earth to make sure the space-born generations don't make humanity's greatest mistakes again. How to estabilish contact and potential friendly relations with extraterrestrials if their spaceship is spotted one day. How to estabilish trade, decisionmaking and how to create a society that takes care of everyone when they land.

Heats/Ruts in space: for short-term missions to space (for example, lunar missions) these aren't as much of an issue since they could simply pick a time window where none of the crew's cycles interrupt the mission (the trip from earth to the moon is only about 3 days) and most likely the crew would be taking medication on top of that just in case, to make sure their cycle is regular and won't trigger early.

However, on longer missions, such as a trip to Mars (7 months each way) this wouldn't be possible. The goal would be to try to rotate the crew so that someone who is not on their cycle is in control of the ship at all times. The crew would probably all be taking medication to time their cycles according to these crew rotations, and separate areas/habitats would be prepared for anyone who is on their cycle, both to keep them comfortable and allow privacy, but also to keep anyone overly curious (or driven by pheromones) out.

Aliens: okay, imagine humans have spread out across the galaxy and evolved somewhat to adapt to their new enviroments. Some humans no longer exhibit a/o/b traits at all while some still do. Not only would meetings between these humans be interesting, but how about the aliens, who would be used to one "type" of human species, suddenly encountering a different kind of human? How do aliens react to heat/rut cycles? Are certain alien species similar with similar reproductive cycles? Maybe some aliens don't even have a concept of biological reproduction at all (i.e. species who have essentially become sentient machines, or maybe species that use bioengineering, cloning, etc to reproduce? Or species that are so long-lived that reproduction is not necessary?) So how do they view these things? Just. A lot to consider.

It is stated multiple times in the series by Mobius, and in general they kept highlighting the fact that she's a female counterpart. I shouldn't be surprised, but I always am in the end 😔

And another point you made — for Ragnarok, I saw your rb and. Man. When I tell you my jaw DROPPED at that scene — like ... It's awful. I hope that we won't have that one day, even if that feels far away. None of you deserve this. Putting such lines is very harmful, because (other than the fact that it's just straight up disrespectful, racist and ignorant) while the film itself is fictional, it still has influence in real life and people could take that and think it would be fine, to belittle and mock others. I've learned about your culture and am still learning, and with everything that has transpired, things like this make everything worse. It's so widespread, too, the misinformation. Of course, the best weapon to this is to be respectful, open, informed, and curious about everything, but still, such lines should not be accepted at all. You have already stated it very well. In all honesty, I’m not too sure about the shape-shifting thing. But… I assume her being able to shape-shift as well as the enchanting stuff would’ve made her too “OP” (not that they really care about that) and not “distinctive” enough from Loki lol. As for her being strictly female and not fluid… man, I don’t know. I guess they wanted to focus on female rep (which they’re not really good at either) instead. They already see Loki as male, so they treated both of them as only being female/male with the ‘Sex:Fluid’ thing being an afterthought to “please” fans. Basically:

Female counterpart… the writing and handling of Sylvie being female felt misogynistic to me. Okay so Loki cannot call her out on her own flaws (because how dare a female character have flaws), but also she’s automatically stronger and is so “badass”, but also she has no depth and there was little thought put into her backstory. I can straight up say that as a female that I do not want to see robotic female characters with absolutely no depth, and no flaws! Instead of them correcting the misogynistic mistakes they’ve made in the past with making a strong female character, they make her robot like because I guess that’s easier than giving a female character depth.

I feel like a good example of a well written female character is Mikasa from Attack on Titan. She is strong, but also has depth. She loves Eren, but has a personality and motives outside of that. She has weaknesses, and is not immune to struggling. She’s one of my favorite female characters, and I think more should be written like her. Anime/Manga are notoriously BAD at handling female characters, but in Attack on Titan (though there are still flaws of course), they feel real. They aren’t just there for fan service, or just to shut up female audiences with no actual care put into any part of it.

I really do appreciate you taking the time to learn about my people, and our culture. Thank you for seeing us for who we are, outside of all the hatred. It truly does mean a lot, as I’ve been discriminated against throughout my life.

I also want to point out that the joke isn’t JUST beyond disrespectful to my OWN culture, but it is disrespectful to any other culture that’s cultural clothing includes headscarves. So many people who proudly wear their headscarves (and any other cultural clothing for that matter) are targeted in hate crimes and It’s just really gross to me that they chose to mock them. It fuels hatred and ignorance. It alienates people.

A lot of people when talking about anti Roma racism mainly talk about the G word (Gypsy), but there are more important things to me than that. Like the fact that Roma children are ethnically targeted in hate crimes by non Roma ADULTS and AUTHORITY FIGURES throughout Europe, but primarily in the Balkans where a lot of us reside/have ties to.

Politicians openly spew hatred against us, with little to no repercussions. They want my people to assimilate, but when they attempt to, they are mocked and just overall treated like garbage. There’s no winning. They want them to strip themselves of our culture. Of our traditions.

I will not get into it on here a whole lot as it is absolutely vile, but my people were targeted during the Holocaust and experimented on in horrific ways. How were they targeted? Nazi scientists studied our features, and how we dressed.

That’s why jokes about how we look or how we present ourselves really are not funny. It reflects real life.

I believe I said this in so many words on the OG post, but the weirdest part to me of all of it is how little sense it makes for Bruce to make that joke to Thor. Like it was just Mark Ruffalo going out of his way to be hateful towards us once again. Thor doesn’t pay much mind to the joke if you watch the scene.

It’s funny because Thor (after his banishment), has almost always been respectful towards other groups of people from what I can remember at the top of my head.

He was respectful towards humans when he was casted out to Midgard, and he CLEARLY tolerates them to a certain extent if he’s willingly in a relationship with one, as well as willingly associate with them (The Avengers.)

HI!! Okay I have plenty of answers for you :)

1) the most important thing I think I can say when starting a webcomic is there is never a right time, or a time when you can be perfectly prepared for the whole thing. Before NSS I had started two separate webcomics that didn’t do very well! I enjoyed working on them, but they were kinda prototype NSS lol— eventually I got curious randomly about taking an extra language class at my school, and I ended up taking an ASL class. That was kinda the missing puzzle piece for me, and I realized there was a lot I could fit into a story based on what I was learning and what I was experiencing and struggling with in high school. Lewis has a lot of traits from my own struggles with anxiety, and because of that we’re gonna (very likely) have to put warnings on the episodes featuring his anxiousness and panicking. BUT to answer your question I guess in a more concise way, I had been wanting to make a webcomic anyway, but I ended up truly starting it because I was having a perfect storm of life experiences at the time that I want to create in a fictional story :)

2) okay so the formatting is always kinda crazy. For starting off on Webtoon canvas, I used this https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/webtoon-format/list?title_no=109936

It has the dimensions listed for everything you’ll need in the general uploading for it!

In terms of organizing the panels, Im definitely pretty amateur at this part LOL— it’s just a learning experience, but the biggest thing to know is that to keep a flow with the comic (since it’s vertical/the audience will be scrolling) it’s better to space out your panels and transitions. So (for example) having a busy comic page like a DC comic issue WOULD be doable for a Webtoon, but itd be a confusing read because of how busy the pages are.

3) So one thing I will say is (about any experiences and characters in the comic), is I try to avoid putting anything in that I haven’t had either experience with, a class in, or an interaction with. Writing a deaf character is not easy, and because of the nature of NSS being a comic (and ultimately a story), there will be parts of Fern that will be inaccurate. (Partially because they’re still images and not animated or live action). AS WELL AS!! Everyone’s story is different. There isn’t one identical experience with (for example), language— bilingualism, trilingualism, being hard of hearing, being deaf, etc!

I can share that over the years that I’ve been making NSS I’ve interviewed people, asked about as many experiences as possible, and gotten many eyes looking over and critiquing his character. So I think the biggest thing is if you’re writing a character with an experience outside of your own, go out and literally meet people and do as much research as possible.

I don’t know if it’s actually a forgotten classic, but it feels like a forgotten classic and I own the DVD sets. Grunge-alternative influenced, slightly gonzo semi-fantasy about suburbia’s inherent nonsensicalness and... friendship.

The Haunting of Hill House

Blatantly stealing this from Henly to appear somewhat modern. But also I loved this show. It’s a good example of how fundamentally different something something can be when you change the message, but that doesn’t necessarily make it bad. I am still waiting for a really good adaptation of the actual story though. Very happy to rewatch this a million times in the meantime.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Yes, I chose the seasons 3-6 image over the station because I wanted people who weren’t familiar to be able to see the CAST. the CAAAAST. So I watched a bit of Star Trek as a youth as reruns came on TV, but did a watch through of all the series from TOS until Enterprise killed me. DS9 is so good. So good.

Horatio Hornblower

Honestly some of this is just stuff I own. This is an obvious choice when you realize I am into maritime history. and a huge nerd. The pictures are getting bigger because I don’t know what I’m doing.

Ren & Stimpy

LOOK, it was either this or Beavis and Butthead, and I think this one edges them out because I wasn’t technically allowed to watch MTV late enough to catch Beavis and Butthead. You want to talk about problematic creators? here’s a way to, through what was genuinely a discomfiting and absurdist and hilarious show. As far as I know Mike Judge is cool. But I did watch this one more. and quote it occasionally.

Queer as Folk (American version)

Yet another show I watched when I wasn’t supposed to watching TV and only when special preview weekends or deals meant that our cable company was carrying it for free. But I met nice people through Queer as Folk and learned a lot and also saw a lot of penises. or very nearly. it was hard to tell through the snow.

PBS Mystery

Probably part of why I love Edward Gorey (or at least, a large part of why I’m familiar with him - I might love him because his work is great). This is a weird one because it was kind of treat, but I also kind of hated it? Like, you never knew what you would get, and it was cool, and I loved watching it with my Mom, but it was never regular thing and sometimes my little kid brain just wasn’t turning at the rpm that let me enjoy it.

Hmmmm honestly I haven’t thought about it much but this is what I do step by step ig to have a nice in the zone creative session :

Step 1: I try to do the things that i don’t wanna do first, like I try to finish everything that might make me get distracted; for example if I need to wash the dishes I do that first, or if I need to study I do that first, so I don’t feel guilty or bad about getting stuck in the zone ✨

Step 2: I think about the things I might need as I draw, like water at hand, maybe a snack, some candle or incense. It’s nice to set up your space to make things easier for yourself ^^

And Step 3: Getting in the zone, to get fully in the zone first I think if I want to make anything specific is it a reference sheet? An illustration? A study? I try to find references if I want to. Then I just pick one of my playlists that embodies the feeling or theme I’d like to put down on paper, sometimes I pick a specific song that gets me pumping XD that’s it for me XD music is my main source of motivation, but my hands do most of the work, I guess you just gotta let them go, try and hold no restriction from what you want to try or go for.

- If I don’t know what to draw I usually just jump straight up to listening to music.

I try also to take the time to get inspired by something, maybe take the time to look for new songs, watch a new movie or anime, discover new artists or stories, read things (archeology, biology, science yes ✨) …be curious about everything I guess ✨ try new styles, brushes-

- most important of all I try to be patient with myself, try to be present and engage with myself, what am I feeling, what do I want to create? Self- introspection is one of the great teachers and guides to my creative process and inspiration✨

Also sometimes things don’t turn out the way we wanted and that’s okay, you can always redraw or recycle your ideas 💡 just don’t be hard on yourself about it, is okay ✨

Apologies in advance for long rant

So I’ve been on a superhero comic kick for a little while now and I got curious about where comic books are in the Space Year 2024 and I gotta ask what the hell is going on over there? I might be preaching to the choir here. I don’t know. I haven’t been in this fandom for a very long time. I don’t know where the conversation is. I’m just airing my own personal grievances on the subject. But I don’t understand how the progenitors of the single biggest movement in media in the last 20 years have been failing so absolutely thoroughly on their core product. To a point where it’s legitimately incredible. A feat of its own.

I haven’t touched a comic book in about a decade and a half at this point. I read them a lot in my teens and early 20s and the last comic book that I picked up and read with intent to continue was during DC‘s new 52 lineup back in 2011. I did not continue reading there. So it’s been long enough, I am functionally a brand new reader, right. I asked a friend who would been reading comics this whole time what he thought and he pointed me to marvel’s new ultimate lineup, which, much like the original Ultimate comics that I loved, is supposed to be a fresh start for familiar characters, each one of them having a new twist. Which sounds perfect to me!

Ultimate Spider-Man, which has only been running for about three issues at this point for example, has the elevator pitch of “what if Spider-Man got bitten as a 35-year-old family man instead of a gangly teenager?” which sounds incredible, and I needed to read that right away.

So, okay, I know what I want, how do I obtain this comic? My first thought, as I imagine most anyone’s first thought in the year 2024 would be is: “there’s gonna be an app right?” And the answer to that question is yes but no. There is an app and it does have, for a monthly subscription, “a selection” of comics, but the new stuff doesn’t arrive until after a significant delay. Like, three months. Strikes me is wrongheaded, but not particularly surprising. So plan B was still in the mindset of reading these today: Find a local comic store. Luckily, I live in a part of the United States that is very dense with nerds. There’s half a dozen comic shops near enough that I can just pop in, so I do! None of them had the comics I wanted in stock. Turns out almost none of them order more comics than they absolutely have to, because comics floppies, in an ironic twist, are actually a terrible investment for comic shops. Unless the distributor is twisting their arm, they only order as many copies of a given comic as they have preorders for. They were all very excited and welcoming, and I will be going back, but they were entirely unequipped to handle some rando like me barging into their store for a specific comic. Okay so plan C is “Can I get them delivered?” and the answer to that is yes, but not directly. Which, Dear Marvel Comics; you’re a company that pumps out monthly publications, how do you not have a subscription service? How does that happen? So you can’t just read these comics online, you can’t order them straight from the source, and you can’t just buy them in stores. At least not without great effort and pain. Or piracy. Cannot overstate the pervasive force that was the temptation to hoist the flag through this entire process.

Eventually, I did find these comics and I buy them. Just found a place online and ordered them. Not my original plan, but hyperfixations are what they are.

After actually reading these things, I got three distinct and immediate impressions. First: The comic is good! For the most part! It’s well written and well drawn. They do make good on the promise of the conceit and I probably am going to keep reading it. In fact, I might dip in a little further and go for their ultimate X-Men line which is going in a wild new direction that intrigues me! But here’s the second thing. I bought three (3) comics. At five (!!) dollars apiece. So I ended up spending $15 before taxes and shipping. Basically a month subscription to whatever streaming service I want, and all for what, 50 pages of content? That’s insane, right? Like I can’t be the only one to think that? I just don’t understand what rationale they’re using to sell these things. I don’t understand where they think the value proposition is here, when, again, for the price of only a few issues, I could get access to hundreds of hours of content on virtually any platform I want. For the cost of these three comics, I could buy a month of Disney+ and watch every single Marvel movie. It’s just not a fair comparison, and I really don’t understand why they think this is okay.

And then putting value propositions to the side for the moment, thing three is: This comic, which again I want to emphasize is good, was pitched to me as a completely fresh start free of any baggage that might turn away a prospective reader, much like the original Ultimates line. In issue one we learn that’s not the case. I’ll keep this as free from spoilers as possible, but we learn that the entire universe, and reason for this Peter Parker’s existence is because of a decision a character made in another universe from a decade ago. And if you wanna know all about that, you have to read a separate comic series. Which feels like exactly the wrong creative decision to make here. And, like, I get it, This is Marvel things are gonna tie back together, that’s just what these stories do, but you can’t sell me a fresh start with a new version of a new character and then, in issue one, tell me that pretense is false. If you want to tie it in later, as a big stakes-raising twist, be my guest, but to bring in this whole Multiverse thing in issue one just smacks of no confidence in your product. Like you don’t trust the basic conceit of your story to sell itself. Which you should be able to do! Hell, it sold me! I guarantee if I told someone this story was about a character who died in a big multi-comic event a decade ago but came back and made his own universe, most people’s eyes are going to gloss over. But if I said “Spider-Man but he’s 35 and happily married *before* he becomes Spider-man”, that’s gonna turn some heads! But I digress.

In the end, I’m not an active member of this community, I’m just an outside observer who poked my head into comic books for the first time in a very long time, and I’m just baffled. Almost everything wrong here has been solved a decade ago or more. Again, I’m sure I’m saying nothing new, and if you’re reading comics and find no relation to my plight, then go with god. I just needed to vent frustration. I don’t understand how comic books are even still a thing, when they’re this hard to get, and this hard to parse. Get your shit together, guys.

Bad airing times

I live in a time zone completely opposite to that of the WNBA. Most games are played in the deep of the night for me. What do I do? I watch the highlights the morning after and then stay up to watch the really big games. My dad goes to sleep earlier to wake up to watch if he can. Not all sports fans engage the same. Some buy merch, others don't. Some follow only star athletes and some follow teams they like. You don't always have to be a live-watcher, the highlights can be exciting summaries by themselves.

2. Not knowing where to start/learning curve

Sports are actually super easy to understand. I mean, super easy! Most of the time, I find that this excuse comes from a place of being intimidated by fandom. In which case, quite a number of fans are happy to explain the mechanics of the sport to you! Otherwise you can watch a few highlights and read a Wikipedia article (or ask ChatGPT/Google). Most of them amount to getting the ball into the net/hole and what constitutes as a foul. They differ on roles, team numbers, and how how points are earned.

3. Misogyny from male sports fans.

There's misogyny everywhere and there are ways to block it out. Most misogynists are, luckily, more focused on men's sports, so you're likely to see trolls, but actual fans of women's sports don't tend to be misogynists! Like I said, there's a lot of lgb, female and gender non-conforming people who consistently engage with women's sports. It can be a more wholesome space compared to a lot of men's sports fandoms.

4. Embarrassment/being judged or mocked by other people

Most people either like or are curious about women's sports or they don't care. I've dealt with mockery for being a fan of the WNBA, but even those mockers minded their business most of the time. Chances are they'll either be impressed about the skill of the women and become fans/appreciate it or they will continue not to care. But even watching in private hasn't diminished the enjoyability of the sport. There's online fans that I usually react to games with so the haters become irrelevant. Me and the fans in the stadiums are too busy screaming about plays our faves are making.

5. Not knowing where to watch

For those interested in the WNBA, please DM me so I can help you out. Also, there's information available for where to access the live games via subscription services. You can check Reddit as well as Google. Fanbases usually know where to find the niche stuff, too. You can also follow the pages of different leagues, they usually share who is sponsoring/streaming the games. If you need extra help in this area, please DM me.

6. Not being able to afford streaming services

I'm all for financially supporting women's sports, but if you can't, you can still catch games via highlights. If you want live games . . . ahem . . . check Reddit or DM me :)

7. Anxiety that the women won't be as good as the men

The more I've watched sports, the more I realize that it's not necessarily about better or worse, but about DIFFERENT. For example, in the WNBA, the total game scores are lower than the MNBA. Some chalk it up to less athleticism, but men's quarters are 12 minutes while women's are 10. That gives men almost an extra WNBA quarter. Not only that, but the WNBA places way more emphasis on defensive playing. Some say the WNBA is less exciting because there's way more lay ups and not enough dunks, but the reason for that isn't because the women can't dunk (several do it in their training sessions), it's that it's a very dumb thing to do in a WNBA game where rosters are smaller and thus more competitive. it's an unpopular play. Athletes in the W just have way more to lose and it's simply not WNBA culture to dunk. The game is played different. this is true in all sports. men and women don't play the same, and as such, have their own quirks in their respective leagues. fun fact, WNBA players play against men in training and those dudes will tell you they eat dust.

8. Watching because of women is infantalising/disingenuous

I don't think so. I think supporting women in any way is just following-through as a feminist. You can love women's sports because you love women or because you love sports or both. I got into women's sports for this reason, and I've ended up coming to love the sport as well; on top of having a deeper appreciation for women.

9. Not being interested in sports period

I have too much to say on this so I'm going to put it in another post that I'll link here.

10. Feeling like no one watches anyway/there'll be no one to bond with over it

Two things. One, there are already fans of women's sports and you can join online groups/forums. Two, if you can't find any, you can always start one. I'm thinking of creating a women's sports discord where fans can meet because I've seen current and potential fans and so far, my fandom experience has been elite! You are not the only one watching women's sports, I promise. But being a fan attracts more fans, as well. My dad started watching WNBA highlights because of me.

11. Wanting to but procrastinating.

I get that, but I suspect that this procrastination is really just anxiety and overwhelm. You don't know where to start, don't know what it's going to be like, worry it won't be fun, and you don't need to. You can always just give it a try. But if you need any help, you can always DM me and we'll get into it together :)

12. Politics surrounding women's sports sounds exhausting

All sports is politics. Even men's. If you're a woman, you're already a political issue yourself, lmao. Again, this will come down to how you want to engage with the sport. You can be a casual sports fan and still be a sports fan. I'm entering the WNBA in a politically charged season, and so far I've managed to curate a positive experience for myself by staying avoiding trolls and blocking sensationalist media houses. You can literally curate your sports experience in a way that works for you.

13. Bonus: Men fetishizing women

Men fetishize baby girls. Also, men did not ALLOW women to play sports the same way they did not aLLoW women to have rights. Women fought for their right to play sports and won that fight (y'all should watch the documentary film Copa 71 to get an idea). If we did nothing because men fetishized us doing that thing, we would have to kill ourselves because men fetishize us for being ALIVE. Also, not all women's sports has degrading outfits. Football, rugby, basketball, softball, etc have standard uniforms for women. Also, there are quite a number of genuine male fans of women's sports that sincerely love the sport. I know that's hard for radblr to believe, but I'm just reporting from the ground. It's not all toxic. And NO, women's sports is not soft core pornography. WTF are you talking about?? This whole post is just a fucking mess.

14. Bonus: "I prefer collaboration over competition"

I'm not sure what you mean you prefer collaboration over competition, because sports has both. Team sports is great for this. Anyways, you don't have to watch women's sports to care about women and your support is still great :)

15. Bonus: "There's no drama/storyline in sports unlike other forms of entertainment"

saw this response in the notes and BABBBEEEEEEEE you could not be further from the truth. Watching women's sports is like watching the hunger games live for me, in a sense. These are women with distinct personalities, histories and personal stakes. Emphasis on PERSONAL STAKES. sports is high stakes from game to game, especially for women because they're usually less funded. As a fan, you're getting elite stories about women of all sorts from all walks of life coming to fight for their lives on the court/field. mothers, divorcees, daughters of legacy players, etc. they ALL have a story. there are rivalries, friendships, romances. EVERYTHING! and while I get that these are real people with real lives and pain and i respect that . . . but there's also just too much tea! like thoughts and prayers, tbh, but also . . . i kinda really want to see how it ends. watching real women with real lives struggle and get back up again, seeing their dynamics, it's drama of the best sort with real heart and real grit and i love it! Like all the storylines you keep waiting for hollywood white boys to direct and release on HBO or whatever . . . they all abound in women's sports. like that's where the representation is! you can't help but see yourself in some of these women. It's just so RAW sometimes.

Conclusion:

Y'all need to watch women's sports. Like fr. No excuses.

Tbh it's looking like a few gotgs are gonna die.. which... *LOUD EXHALE* They are such comfort characters I love these weird ass space misfits 💔

{i am the caretaker of souls} Honestly, death is not the worst thing that can happen to MCU characters in my opinion. I mean... look at Wanda and Vision, heh. Wanda’s been just mentally destroyed and gone down a very dark path, and Vision... *sigh* Poor Vision. Leaving him dead would have been better for him and for fans, I think. To refurbish him like a cell phone was just... I know White Vis was in the comics and all that, but I was really hoping they wouldn’t go there in the MCU... and they did. I prefer a good death to a bad one, or to writers just screwing up the character and disappointing fans.

There are plenty of characters where, even though they died, they had good deaths and frankly their lives would have been hell if they’d still gone on living for various reasons. Some muses I used to write or still do have had those kinds of deaths, where they died protecting others in some heroic fashion that either redeems them somewhat or at least has them go out on a good note to be remembered positively for. Carlos from the Resident Evil live action movies comes to mind. Also, Luther from Red Widow. And I would’ve said Vision too had he um... stayed dead. Pietro, certainly, although I have a lotta problems with the setup and mechanics of his death, but... yeah, he died a hero and there’s no better way to go out.

I’m fine with a character I love dying as long as that death is A Good Death™, it’s meaningful, and it leaves fans on a good note. Tony’s death, as rough as it was for fans, was definitely a good one for him that let him go out a hero and in a way that fans will always remember him positively for. I prefer this... to... A Bad Death™, where it’s meaningless or overly terrible for fans or it’s just poor writing and doesn’t make sense. Or, and this is the one I hate the most, a death that is an insult to a lotta things the character holds dear, identifies as, or stands for. Ned Stark from GoT/ASoIaF, for example. Also, I would argue and have argued in the past, Nuada from Hellboy II.

And characters don’t have to die to be ruined. Steve Rogers, I’m looking at you. What they did to him in the MCU was terrible. There aren’t many things that I outright reject from canon, but his ending in Endgame is one of them. Completely out of character and bad writing. I would have preferred him to die heroically like Tony than for the writers to do that to him. I am not an arrogant person (or most times, even a confident person, heh), but I could have written him a better ending than those writers did. But anyway, my point is... just have hope that, if they do kill off some GotG people, they get A Good Death™ and aren’t ruined by the writers, heh.

Okay. Now. As far as the muse I was thinking of reviving... yeeeeeah, I was actually hoping nobody remembered that I said that, haha. Only because I said that and then things got crazy in my life and now I don’t foresee having the time to bring back an old muse as complex as him right now. I still want to revive him, I just need time to re-watch his movie, go through his blog and re-familiarize myself with all my headcanons and a ton of aspects of his life that I fleshed out beyond canon, and I do have a fanfic that I stopped writing a few years ago that I really should go back and finish. If I can do all of those things, I think I can get back into writing him.

He’s not the kind of muse I want to just jump into, and after 3-4 years of him being quiet and me not writing him at all, I know he’s going to come out a bit different than before. I’m a different person now than I was 4 years ago. A lot has happened in my life, not all of it good, and that’s fine, but I need to find my voice with him where it stands now and not necessarily try to emulate the way I used to write him. So yeah, it’s just a matter of having the time to do all of this. I have a 6-day hiatus coming up, but it’s for work, so I’m not sure I’m going to have time then, but then I’m off for a month (which honestly is more like three weeks because I need to start prepping early before Spring semester), so... I’m optimistic that maybe I’ll have time then? *shrugs* I’ll try.

But umm... yeah he’s actually a muse I already mentioned earlier, heh. Nuada from Hellboy II. I want to bring him here and make him a private muse, only because his blog still has like 600+ followers and I can’t take on that kind of new activity right now. Also, because I know he’s going to come out different after such a long hiatus from writing him, I kindof want to distance myself from my old blog and the way I used to write him before. If his was a side blog, I would probably archive or delete and start a new one, but because it’s my main that all my other rp blogs are sides of, I can’t get rid of it, and I don’t want him to have his own blog because that will invite a lot more activity than I have time for. So... he’s going to be hiding here on my multi once I can get him set up. But don’t tell him that, because according to him, he never hides from anything. 🙄

When it reaches that speed in theory, creates visible spectrum magnetic waves — the knees will sparkle with light. igniting yourself and casting light to others. 2. Skateboarding beats taking a 57s flight

Hello Friends of Himalaya, This is Wang Yibo. What shall we talk about? I’m currently onboard my flight. This brings to my mind a little known knowledge related to flying to share with you. What is the shortest flight duration you’ve been on? To me, about an hour. Do you know how much time it takes to fly the world’s shortest flight route? The answer is 57 seconds, not even a minute! I was quite astonished. How is that possible to fly? It’s not even enough to take off. Can’t it be reached by foot? It should also be sufficient to skate there. According to the internet, this flight route is in Scotland. The Orkney islands is an archipelago in Scotland and there are 2 islands. The distance between them is 2.7 km. The locals opened this flight route and the official flight duration is in 2 minutes. Under excellent flight conditions, it’s only 57 seconds. This flight costs 30 USD. excluding meals and in flight entertainment. It’s such a short flight so of course there’s no meals. The plane doesn’t even need to retract it’s wings. But I’m still very curious, since the plane has to descend shortly after it takes off— why is there a need to take a plane? 2.7 km, should be able to reach by swimming or taking a boat. Okay, I need to switch off my phone. For those who are taking a flight, have a safe journey.

The answer is the Koala. Why?Because the eucalyptus leaves which it eats is in fact poisonous. And the reason why koalas feed on eucalyptus tree leaves isn't because of preference but because it's unable to compete with the others. It can only feed on what other the animals wouldn't fancy. Koalas spend 99% of their time feeding on poisonous tree leaves. After eating, they sleep. Its whole life is basically spent in semi- consciousness. Hello, @scythefandom-mcyt ! Age regression is when somebody goes into something called 'little space', where they essentially regress in age mentally. They often feel like they are a child again, and while some people do it consciously, for some it is involuntary. It's almost always in response to childhood trauma, and is used as a way of getting back lost time from childhood.

A caregiver is someone who takes care of a little, usually a close friend or relative. They're essentially the adult who supervises and plays with an age regressor when they are in little space, although it's important to take care of your caregiver too, because they are often taken advantage of.

And it's important to be very careful, because in many cases agere is sexualized. And while that is okay, it's also important to keep the nsfw out of the safe places we have for littles who need it. This blog, for example, is strictly sfw, as I state in all my posts. I like to use this blog as a way to help anyone who needs it, and just have a fun time with all my littles. That's why I often refer to myself as a 'virtual caregiver'!

Now, I'm not the best at explaining, so I suggest that if you're curious you do some research for yourself, but just as a recap, let's go over some lingo:
