While I’m ae posting anyway, here’s my Gravelyn redesign👍

And for the diozz design enjoyers out there, here is a piece I started for some art contest they were doing that I hit a roadblock on so never ended up finishing. But I’m still very proud of this drawing of her, I think she is gorgeous

I had a whole thing written out just now and my app exploded and I clicked backspace Once and it deleted the entire very long thing I had written. So this is take 2.

My Gravelyn is based around not necessarily her father’s armour, but the design idea behind it. TO ME his original dragonfable design always read as very muscular system-esque. Everyone get your book 3 design jokes out the way now. I think it’s something that even if you don’t know the lore you could probably pick up on, that armour is his strength, his literal muscle beneath his skin, grafted to him. So to show Gravelyn’s deeper connection I wanted to base it around muscle And bone. Her father had a choice but she did not, this is the life she was born into, her empire is everything to her, it’s her last connection to her father and it’s something she prides herself in. The shadowscythe has burrowed as deep as it goes, when she is dead and buried and the waves erode land and what’s left of her is uncovered, it will still be there. The only other doomknight armour designs with a bone (in colour and design) theme that I can think of are the shadowscythe general and the arch doomknight. Both of which are not particularly heavy handed in it. So with the three versions above you can kinda tell there was a lot of push and pull going on with what I wanted, and I’m still not 100% on any of them, but I think that’s more a case of the whole bone style not having much of a precedent and that’s making me worry I’m doing too much. Speaking of arch doomknight though, her little loincloth was obviously inspired by the design that set has and my reasoning was I’m not a big fan of her flap in any of her designs, it’s giving “girl must wear skirt or how know girl”, but it’s also such an iconic part of her design that has been there since the beginning and it adds visual interest to the area that would be sorely missed otherwise. So I think the two separate pieces is a really nice compromise. It’s also giving valen, which was unintentional but i do like it. Also the red design elements on the armour are based around a map of the body’s major arteries. You can’t see it as well on the aqw model unfortunately because it is very small, but it is there.

if we assume that each of the three pillars comes exactly three times for a total of nine times, and we know that the 7th time it was the 40-year guardian, and if we assume that was her final visit and the last two visits will be split between the 30-year guardian and the 8-year guardian, we can calculate how long ago the miharu family made that deal: (40x3)+(30x2)+(8x2)=196 years. 196 years ago it was 1828, but i think this is supposed to be set in the 1980s or 90s, so call it the late 1700s. that's the kind of thing matoba as the head of the matoba clan has to concern himself with - deals with youkai made by people 200 years ago from families that don't even exist anymore. it's an interesting contrast to the thing he says to natsume at the end of this arc, about the 9th visit, which is 30 years away, being someone else's problem. he's embroiled in the past but doesn't even think he'll get to have a future.

Getting really good at laddering down and fixing seed stitch at this point. Once I purled while laddering back up like a hundred times it finally clicked how to do it consistently lol. Easy now. Only took many many years--that is a mistake that previously I would leave in but now it's a simple fix. Nice to see that kind of progression in my hobbies for sure.

I assigned reading homework for the weekend and was hit by this wave of irritation with the implicit lying that goes on where they act like they’ll read the homework but they never actually do and so I called them on it and started teasing them and of course they laughed but then I was like “you know my secret dream is that you go home and you walk in the door and someone wants to do something fun with you or you get a text but you hold up your hand and say ‘no no, I have to read ten pages of Beowulf’ and then you sit down and do it” and they scream-laughed at the idea but I like to think it at least presented it to their minds as a possibility
